2 SPF products - my usual Biore Watery Essence every morning and a Neutrogena spf 100 face milk for the really big exposure days. (Different, thicker, sunscreen for the rest of me)

I also bought an awesome sun hat that came with an attachable scarf that covers my neck and secured under my chin - very little left to exposure.

Edited to add: here’s a link to the hat. It’s adjustable, easy to pack, and secured in the back like a ball cap so my hair can be up and pulled through (more secure in wind!).

You have a few options:

1. Suck it up and use a mineral sunscreen. Look pasty white just like everyone else who decided to use one. Or use less so you don't look pasty, but be ready to accept a potential burn.
   
2. Use other sun protection like UPF clothing, hats, and umbrellas. There are some great (read: surprisingly sexy) UPF protective rash guards. Don't stay out as long. Embrace your new found UPF 50 beach attire with one of these bad boys
   
3. Buy a European or Asian sunscreen that's octinoxate and oxybenzone free. I don't know whether these are reef safe, but they're allowed.
   
   These all have their pros and cons. I would probably use a combination of methods to optimize practicality and protection.

Amazon has a lot of different style options, they come up when you type "upf hat" or "sun hat" or terms like that. I just got one that has a really wide, broad brim and goes down on the head pretty low which is great, plus it has this scarf thing attached to it which covers the back of your neck, and can clip in the front to cover the front of the neck! I went from not owning a hat to owning two, and I want another one.

Not the most fashionable, but my top priority is being able to stuff it in my purse. Here's one I own in a neutral color and this one in the navy blue with flowers under the brim. Certainly! The hat/scarf thing is this. It wears like a wide baseball cap, so it’s adjustable and I can pull my ponytail through to further keep it secure if it’s windy. The scarf secures to the hat and even has a snap that can secure under the chin.

The headband brand escapes me but it’s similar to these. They are very wide - when folded in half and placed around my head (under hair, over forehead), it reaches from my eyebrows to the back crown of my head. I’ve also used it around my neck while driving just for extra UV coverage if I’ve not gotten my sunscreen on just yet.

For the canopy used in modern DG gliders, they claim that "The canopies do not totally screen out UV, but do absorb about 95% of it".

As for bucket hats, yeah they are dorky looking, but they are the best thing for the purpose. If you feel too weird wearing a plain old bucket hat, why not get a novelty hat? At least then it looks like you're self-aware of how goofy they look.

There are plenty on amazon or you can get them from the Donald Trump website but those only ship to to the USA so I'm guessing you will have a problem with that.

There are a lot of recs on this thread from r/femalefashionadvice. Some of the links are outdated, but I found it was able to lead me to other good hats on Amazon, like this one or this one

The hats can be a bit hit-or-miss in terms of fit, but I have this one and this one that fit me well. What I do with Siggi is always order through Prime, so I can return them if I need to.

If you're concerned, there are other brands that are adjustable like this visor or this other visor or this hat that fit a wider range of head sizes. These are all in my shopping cart to buy in the future.

If you're a prime user keep a close eye out. The day before I bout it it was $12 prime, the day I bought it was $10 with no prime. IMO with how cheap it is the 2day shipping is worth the $2.

I just recently bought my very first hat that I actually enjoy! I ordered this from Amazon and I've fallen in love with it. I call it my Winona Ryder hat. It's great for the summer heat, and protects my sad, pale, Irish skin. Every once in a while I'll clip feathers or silk flowers to the band and it's really cute. It's also pretty versatile for more 'normal' days.

You can't get an official hat in Canada (there may be an exception for Clinton hats through the Clinton foundation), but there are lots of imitations available online, such as at Amazon.ca. The people getting upset at you for wearing it are not going to notice that it's not the genuine article.

Hats as a concept aren't the issue, I don't think - it's that the available styles are not typically suitable to me.
