I just picked up a Android H/U for a little more than that. It has its quirks, but I am very happy with it. Plus the fit and finish is miles ahead of that render.

Can't believe I was able to find it! And it's cheaper now!

Here is a link to my original post about the camera replacement, you can kind of see what I have going on. They also make larger screen android replacements for the Escape, you could do a straight swap to that but I couldn’t tell you how good they work, I didn’t get it because I wasn’t converting from a Sync 3, but they looked kinda neat. This isn’t the exact one I’m talking about, but gives you an idea what you can do. This is a 10” Tesla looking one. But if you search on eBay you will find things all over. Biggest thing is that you want to make sure you have the correct bezel to replace the Sync 3 and not the Sync 1

u/HayesHacker0NE · 2 pointsr/cruze

There are aftermarket radio head units that have android built right in.

There is this Tesla inspired radio - Here

Also, there is a radio that looks closer to stock - Here

You could probably find much better prices than on Amazon, but at least you can see the styles of radio they make for our car. If you scroll through the months/years of posts on this subreddit, it seems there have been a few Cruze owners who have installed the large screen tesla radio with success, so it seems like a promising option.

To get internet on these radios so you can install apps, you need to just turn on the Hotspot feature on your smartphone and connect to the phone via WiFi.

u/Wrxeter · 2 pointsr/rav4club

You can. I’ve added one to my 2013 WRX.

It is one of the most difficult installs you can do though, and I doubt many shops will do it.

I used:
https://www.amazon.com/Weivision-Degree-System-Panoramic-Camera/dp/B0105XR91O/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=weivision+1080p+super+hd+360+degree+bird+view+system+panoramic&qid=1562641655&s=gateway&sprefix=weivis&sr=8-1&utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app

Properly connected, hazard lights turn on the front camera, reverse turns on the rear camera, and turn signals turn on lane change cameras. All views have the Birdseye mode.

For the head unit, you can swap to:
Dasaita 10" Android 9.0 Bluetooth Car Stereo Head Unit with 4G RAM/ 64G ROM for Toyota RAV4 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 Car Radio Touch Screen GPS Navigation Dash Kit Built in DSP 15Band EQ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RT47S7F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7uajDb1H6YDD0

Which imo makes the factory one look like hot garbage. The CarPlay dongle costs an extra $100 though. Good upgrade for non-factory CarPlay models though.

The radio is plug and play. Harness’ are specific made for the RAV4 and connect right up.

I recommend this aftermarket Android head unit

It's probably the best version out of all the random Chinese-made ones and is a significant update over the stock one, in addition to being plug-n-play and easy to install yourself. The only downside is it can randomly glitch out, but for me it's never been anything that resetting it hasn't solved.

I have had the Note 10+ since launch, took some getting used to and now i have no regrets. Owned every Note since the Note 4, this is the first time i really miss some of the features from the previous model.

  • No retina scan. I hate the fingerprint reader in general, was so easy to just look at my phone when in a busy situation (paying with samsung pay etc...)
  • No 3.5mm jack. My Pioneer radio in the car doesn't recognize when i plug thru USB so i need to buy a 3.5 to USB-C adapter. Haven't done it yet, because i may just upgrade to an Android based radio for maximum compatibility & technology (something like this https://www.amazon.com/PUMPKIN-Android-Tethering-Support-Fastboot/dp/B07T59H6JV/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=pumpkin+android&qid=1567152054&s=gateway&sr=8-4 )
  • Sleep/Power button moved from thumb position to under the volume buttons. It was just so easy, click the 1 button on that side of the phone that was naturally where your thumb rests & the phone is locked. I find myself fishing around with it under the volume buttons, making sure i am hitting the right button (getting adjusted to it tho).
  • No home button pressure sensitivity. I loved picking up my Note 9 and just squeezing the home button to unlock it, this phone does not have that feature. The double tap is ok but plenty of times it doesn't, or i accidentally double tap a notification then i have to also swipe to unlock.
  • My palm pushes the 0 on the top right of my on screen keyboard when 1 handed swyping/typing. I didn't have this issue with my Note 9, i think because it is a little wider that you reach further across the screen and your palm touches the edge on the side of the keyboard. They should make and option to compress the keyboard to the not curved part of the phone and make the edges a dead zone (its possible this exists?)

That's all i can think of off the top of my head, there are a few other small things but obviously not important enough. The screen is definitely an upgrade, seems noticeably bigger and brighter. I am not a fan of camera holes in the screen but you really don't notice it. It does seem to charge a bit faster with the packaged 25w charger, and does seem to last a little longer than the Note 9... but to be fair this is comparing a 1 year old battery that was also slightly smaller in size to a brand new one. The first week or 2 i was having regrets, but now i am just used to it and have gotten adjusted.

I didn’t even know these were a thing until I stumbled on this post. I did a bit of searching and just pulled the trigger on this one from Amazon. I have a 2017 Civic with factory CarPlay (wired). There’s a $70 coupon on it right now so it came out to $155 CAD shipped to my door. If it works as advertised I’ll be happier than a pig in shit. I love the new iOS 13 CarPlay but hate plugging in my phone all the time.

Dual dash cams, nice! Honestly if you're willing to spend a little more I'd look into the DOD LS430W. It provides a really clear picture and comes with GPS options. http://www.amazon.com/LS430W-Advanced-Vision-G-Sensor-Aperture/dp/B00EZK89B8

Right now I run a Blackvue DR500GW-HD in the front and a G1W in the rear and still think the DOD provides a superior picture.

Depending on how much you want to spend this is similar to what I bought and I love it.

I haven’t read much on this one, but could be an option as well:

This one seems to be the "go to" Android head unit for the MK6:

http://www.amazon.com/Resolution-Volkswagen-Navigation-Capacitive-bluetooth/dp/B00YEHHCX8

I have a similar head unit and I like it. The features/apps are amazing, but the sound quality is just so-so IMO. It's a lot of fun playing Angry Birds while you're stuck in a long drive thru line or throwing on a movie/Netflix for passengers on a long trip.

The install couldn't be easier. Plug & play with the factory harness, place the wifi/BT antennas above the 2 center heater vents and then start installing/configuring your apps.

u/cadillacmike · 1 pointr/CarAV

Yeah, that looks the same as the Joying one. Here is the Joying one Amazon:

JOYING in Dash Car Stereo Radio Audio System Rk3188 Quad Core Android 4.4.4 Kitkat Double 2 Din Head Unit Autoradio GPS Navigation 7 Inch Capacitive Touch Screen 16 Gb Memory Universal Support Android Phone Mirror, Airplay for Iphone, Steering-wheel/3g/wifi/obd2/gps/bluetooth/dvr/1080p/sd/usb/eq https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YE7DOXA/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_imFIwbA8B47PQ

If you check the options you can see the other models available

u/IcanCwhatUsay · 1 pointr/AndroidAuto

> Wow deal break, thanks for being the guinea pig on this one. I wonder if quad core options might speed things up some, I notice the one you linked is only dual core. I have been looking around and it seems even the high end of chinese ones only come with 1GB RAM.

Perhaps, I went to Bestbuy to play with other 1GB tablets and they all work quickly for the most part and I was doing my best to tax them out with what little I had available (since nobody is signed in on google play, I couldn't download any heavier apps)

> What do you think of this joying android 5.1 unit? It has backup cam support, quad 1.6ghz, 16GB, and a large list of other features.

Looks really the same as these to me:

One

Two

Three

Four

The only true difference between them all is just the OS but again, I'm not sure if I'd even trust that given that mine is supposed to be 4.4 and can't run apps that are compatible with 4.4. Other than that, I'm not really sure what to tell you. It's still a generic Android head unit from China. Without testing it personally, I can't really say if it'll be better or worse than my experience.

> How do you connect it to your phone? USB or wifi hot spot? I am getting use to just plugging my phone into the USB in my 2016 chevy work truck with android auto. It would be a bit more of a hassle to have to turn on my hotspot each time.

Wifi hotspot and bluetooth. Both work well, the bluetooth works very well actually as I was able to hold a number of calls on it. The interface for it is a bit clunky but it works. I had to talk a little louder than I'm used to in order to drown out the road noise but nothing as terrible as some of the reviews I read on Amazon say.

> Can you detach the screen? It seems like it would be a target for car thieves.

I looked for a way but did not find any.

> Can you attach a USB stick for extra app storage?

Micro USB and it won't do you any good for apps. It's strictly for media (music, vids, pictures)

> Are there any limitations to using the unit while driving? I have noticed android auto won't let me do some stuff unless I am stopped, so kind of annoying when its the passenger operating it but I still need to stop.

Not that I found. I didn't have to bypass a Neutral safety switch or anything like I did on my previous head unit.

> Thanks again for the huge review!

Final words and overall after a weeks worth of commuting:

I'm returning it.

The deal breaker as I said before is the speed. I used google maps to plot my trip home, something I do fairly often and can do very quickly with my phone. I gave it ample time to let the GPS find itself before leaving the parking lot. Once it found it, I typed the address in for home and hit go (multiple times because I couldn't tell if it registered or not SO LAGGY!). I made it 1/3 the way home before it started giving directions (20 minutes into my hour long commute). And when it did, they were broken and stuttering (Take......Left Lane...... .....Exit on ... Left). What finally killed it for me was when I got to my exit, it didn't tell me to "take the exit on the right in TWO MILES" until AFTER I made it to the toll booth. I was severely disappointed and angry with it, therefore I'm ripping it out this weekend and it's going back. All I wanted was to find a drop in 'tablet in dash' type solution for under $250 and this certainly was not it. I have a Note 8.0 which I love, best tablet I ever owned (even though it's severely out of date now) and it's FASTER than this BRAND NEW headunit. Unacceptable IMO.

Feel free to ask any other questions between now and Saturday before I rip it out.

u/sm1t3m3 · 1 pointr/GolfGTI

I can't speak for that particular one, but I recently put this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S5XZYKK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in my MKV and it has been a splendid upgrade. Fit perfectly in the dash, looks like OEM, and I have no complaints about the sound quality. The instructions were awful, but I am sure you will be able to figure it out just like I did.

u/speedisavirus · 1 pointr/Wrangler

For most of it I would say look at replacement speakers. Should be some reasonably priced Infinitis around. I know Kicker actually makes speakers specifically for the sound bar.

The sub, the stock sub is about as slick as it gets in my opinion. It takes up no space as it fits flush with the floor pan. Not earth shattering bass but I feel it when it's bumping. I'd totally do that one again. I think this probably also fits that enclosure but I'd double check first.

Head units...I am looking at a few also. Something with mirroring or android auto. I have this one bookmarked for later reference. Might get it myself. Curious if it supports using the Jeep's microphone though as it's placement is pretty good for wind noise reduction.

u/kanjiklubbin · -3 pointsr/cars

You're an idiot. He paid $295 to install this thing, the PC was just a part of it. Android head units sell for less on Amazon all day long
