Shrinky Dinks available at craft stores.

u/HashSlinging_Flasher · 13 pointsr/DnD

Hey, you should try making these on shrinky dinks! I was about to do this for my party actually! Basically you draw/print whatever you want on this special paper, cut it out and put it in the oven.... and it shrinks and turns into this thick hard acrylic material!

Looks like it's one of these:

There's an instructional video there, too, looks like.

It’s from an Alex bracelet making kit for kids.

They most certainly do.

However, you may find the off-brand stuff more economical.

For those who might not know:

Shrinkydinks was a popular children's toy in the 1970s and early 80s. Plastic sheets can be drawn on with colored pencils, pens, markers, cut out and baked in an oven. They shrink by about 50% and thicken, forming a heavy plastic. By drawing on them beforehand, the coloring gets more dense and vibrant, and the "blank" areas of the plastic become white. It's very durable once it shrinks.

u/timeywimeystuff1701 · 6 pointsr/Supernatural

The "Carry on my Wayward Son" part sort of looks like it may have been written on this type of shrinking plastic. If you want, you could pick some up on Amazon or at your local craft store and easily replace that charm.

u/vllewella · 5 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Jokes on you.

When I was 15 I had my pregnant sister pee on a pregnancy test and told my mom I was pregnant. It didn't go over well. She really believed it, and freaked out. I had to tell her the truth pretty quick. Poor mom.

Artkal makes a [50x50 mini pegboard] (https://www.amazon.com/ARTKAL-Pegboards-Square-Pegboard-Interlocking/dp/B00SOUUJAY), that's the one I use.

u/victoryvines · 4 pointsr/Pathfinder_RPG

Color on a Shrinky Dink Sheet, using bold lines (I like Sharpie), and colored pencil, and cut it out.

Make sure you draw it big enough, they'll shrink to 1/3 of their size in area after you bake them, and will thicken up considerably.

u/sponge_welder · 3 pointsr/oddlysatisfying

Here's 10 sheets for less than $10

Also, you can just buy clear polystyrene sheets, but I don't know what thickness would work best

u/jellosquare · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunterWorld

Just in case you feel like getting funky with it

Check some tutorials out on youtube if you needs some tips.
You could totally sell those though.

u/Keilantra · 3 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

You should print them on shrinky dink Inkjet paper and make them into little charms. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0042SYZDE?pc_redir=1407540506&robot_redir=1

Here's an idea: get crafty! With arts and crafts, that is, where you're only limited by your imagination (and money and time too I suppose...)

Buy a generic back pack and decorate it with pins and patches and iron-ons and dangly doo-hickies all that you can make (or order online) yourself! Seriously, it doesn't take much to get one of those button-makers. It'll come in handy later when your little filly gets a bit older and runs for student council, amiright?

You can buy iron-on stuff at almost any large retailer or hobby/crafts store. Try something compatible with your home printer and see how that works.

Patches are a little bit more complicated but still within reach. You can design your own and have them created by companies over the internet. Most of them offer iron-on backing for a little extra, and it doesn't take much to add a little extra stitching for added security. Most of the time all you need is a vector image and those are easy enough to find. Typically you're limited to a 3" x 3" square. Another catch too is you'll probably have to order a half dozen or so, which is okay too if your daughter has friends to share with.

If you're feeling adventurous, try stencil-making! Buy those little blind-bag toys and attach key ring loops on them. Search the internet for toys and trinkets to hang off of the bag. These are all fun creative learning experiences that you can share together. This is also her back pack and it can be a canvass for self-expression. I haven't met a girl yet that didn't want to express herself. Buy her a good quality pack and it'll last a lot longer than any average plastic Wal-Mart bag. It might not be an official product, but when has that been an issue for this community? If you need help, well, that's what we're here for. She can invest a little bit of herself into making it and maybe she'll care about it all that much more (or maybe I'm just being sickeningly optimistic. It's just a back pack after all...)

If I've learned anything from the DIY Channel, it's that all you need is a hot glue gun and a heaping helping of ambition! Good times. Now get out there and make an awesome back pack and report back with pictures!

The square artkal mini pegboard works fine with my perler mini beads, so I would assume this artkal circular mini pegboard would work for your purposes!

I wrote this out yesterday morning, but didn't get a chance to post it, so some ideas might sound repetitive, so I apologize for that:

There are so many hobbies that don't involve spending thousands of dollars and if you find something you're passionate about, even if your boyfriend isn't, I'm sure he'd love hearing you talk about it.

I love to read. There are tons of free books online (especially on Amazon) as well as super cheap books you can buy just about anywhere. I like researching new things online (everything from medical info to history and biographies) or learning the backstory/ideas behind the shows and movies I watch on tv. I love video games and there are plenty that are free to play or very affordable to buy on so many different platforms. Being fit and working out is free. YouTube has countless channels dedicated to every different style of fitness you can think of. I'm subscribed to so many different channels, it's like having my own personal trainer tailored to my exact interests. It's also a great place to watch tutorials on doing pretty much anything you can imagine.... from makeup to cooking to gardening to singing to programming to woodworking and everything in between. The amount of things you can learn or watch on Youtube is pretty much endless. It might even inspire you to start Vlogging or making your own videos. You could take up playing an instrument or learning a new language with free apps like Duolingo. Since you like wine and Netflix, I've heard of a lot of places where you can have a girl's night out drinking wine and painting together. It would be an interesting change of pace! I'm an avid gardener and you can can garden indoors and out for a pretty small investment just starting with a few seeds.

There are tons of kits that you can buy without spending too much money to see what you're into. I'll list some of my favorites below. Some of the Klutz kits might seem juvenile, but they really aren't. They are all-inclusive, well packaged and have awesome instructions and tips: Gardening, Sewing, Clay, Watercolor, Coloring and Knitting.

Honestly the possibilities are endless, you just have to open your mind up to what a hobby can be. I'm pretty passionate about most of the things I mentioned, plus things like interior design, fashion, Art, electronics, cars, tattoos and tons of things that would cost a lot of money to actually purchase and engage in, but I learn about them, make Pinterest boards about them and discuss and share my interest with friends and family. Actually Pinterest is a great way to discover new hobbies and interests and Etsy is pretty inspiring since most things are homemade or vintage.

How big were you needing? They have a set of six 8.5"X11" on Amazon, if that helps!

This would be a great deal of fun, and another way to recycle paper! It's a bit harder to recycle color paper, but this would be a cute solution to that c: http://www.amazon.com/4M-Recycled-Paper-Beads-Kit/dp/B004YN188W/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=A21OGEO1QE54&coliid=I142UC946AHB2R

OOHH I can help with that! Get this It shows you where to put your colors and what order to go in. The wheel is made of foam so you can slide your strands into the slots easily. I have one and it's AMAZING. Start with that and move up from there!

There were two Klutz books back in the day for polymer clay, and each came with 8 half-bars of Sculpey III (a low-quality polymer clay); they wouldn't have the clay still included though if purchased at amazon, eBay, etc.
https://www.amazon.com/Incredible-Clay-Book-Klutz-Press/dp/1878257730
https://www.amazon.com/Create-Anything-Clay-Sherri-Haab/dp/1570543275
Those were very simple books oriented toward kids, and almost entirely small sculpted items in the second book (the first book had more techniques), but I see there's at least one newer Klutz polymer clay book (not by the same author/s though) on making sculpted "charms":
https://www.amazon.com/Klutz-Make-Clay-Charms-Craft/dp/0545498562

There are better books for those things though, even for simple sculpts (including "charms") like these for example:
https://www.amazon.com/Clay-Play-JEWELRY-Terry-Taylor/dp/0486799441
https://www.amazon.com/Polymer-Clay-Cookbook-Tiny-Jewelry/dp/0823024849

But there's also loads of FREE info, tutorials, etc, online at YouTube and at places like my website for making things like that, and many other things with polymer clay.

Shopkins or a Craft kit like this or this

u/Lapinet12 · 1 pointr/TwoXChromosomes

Maybe it's outdated where you live and for a 14 yo, but I bough a badge maker to my sister a couple years ago. And she loved it ! You can put whatever message or picture you want, offer them to your friends, etc.

You could offer her a mini tech lab (to do make up, or just cool stuffs).

> some magic shrink plastic I don't know about?

Why yes, there is

(before people start saying how this wouldn't work to make this game - it's a joke, calm down)

u/dlink · 1 pointr/shutupandtakemymoney

Or, for Half the price, make your own.

u/Annepackrat · 1 pointr/toys

I usually get these for the twelve to thirteen year old boys I “adopt” for Xmas.

These kind of things are good for girls.

More ideas for either:

Or this kit.

D&D Basics (Getting started)

The Absolute Basics

First you will want to grab either the Basic rules (Free), the Starter Set (Cheap), or the Players handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, and Probably Monster Manual

Then you need to have at least a few items

  • Dice (Phone apps will work if absolutely necessary, or these)
  • Paper & Pencil (for notes)
  • Character Sheet (In the free PDF or an app)

The starter set is nice because it does a bunch of the work for you, it has an easy to follow adventure, pre-made characters, Dice, and rules for the DM and players. And at half the cost of just the players handbook AND including an adventure, it is an incredible value.

Once you finish that then looking at at least a players handbook for the extra races, classes, backgrounds, and other things is a good deal. That should let you run free adventures people have put online.

The DM's guide will let you get deeper into rules and the right way to call them, break them, and make them.

The monster manual can be a great tool to make better encounters.

If you want to run a commercial adventure after the one's included in the starter set, "Tales from the Yawning Portal" includes the Sunless Citidel, considered by many to be an excellent adventure for those new to the game and just recently brought up from 3.5e into 5e

    Common Tools of the Trade

As you start running more complex adventures you are going to want to have a few tools to keep things moving, either as a player or as a DM.

    As a Player

The bare essentials every players should have are listed above, but most players agree having a few extras can make the game run really quick.

    Spell Cards

These cards have all the spells available for specific classes or from specific books on really well organized cards that make it easy to set aside your prepared spells and quickly reference all the core details.

Cleric, Arcane, Ranger, Druid, Bard, Paladin, Martial Powers and Races, Xanathars Guide to Everything

    Binders & Sheet Protectors

Keeping everything neat and organized can be a huge time saver and make it much easier for you to find what you need. Binders can be a great way to keep your notes and other materials organized. In addition many sheet protectors easily erase dry erase markers making it easy to keep track of spells and other changes without ruining character sheets with constant erasing.

    As a DM

DMs have their work cut out for them. But a few simple tools can make the game run smooth and leave everyone having that much more fun.

    Index Cards

A set of index cards can go a long way to speeding up the game. Players can put details on spells or magic items on them. You can prepare loot for the game ahead of time and hand it out allowing players to look over the gear as the game continues. You can also use them to hide portions of a battle map or commerical map to give the effect of fog of war.

    Game Mats

A game mat let's you make single maps by drawing on them with dry erase or wet erase markers. Many are made of vinyl and can last a long time. Normally they will have either 1" squares or hex shapes.

    Minitures

These things can be expensive, but giving your game that 3D upgrade and helping players better manage space in a game can be well worth it. You can use actual miniatures (Like those from Reaper), Create custom ones on Hero's Forge, or even just buy some cheap stand in tokens from Game Mash.

If you just need a cheap way to keep track of positions army men, bottle caps, colored game pieces, and even legos can all play the role.

No matter what you use, you can pick up colored rubber bands to mark status conditions or other information.

    Where Can I Play?

You can find tons of places to play D&D.

  • Get together a gaming group.
  • Find a Guild or club in your area. Meetup.com,
  • Most hobby shops and especially comic book and gaming shops offer games, usually Adventure League. WotC offers a tool to find stores here.
  • /r/lfg can be a great way to find others to play online with.
  • Play by Mail sites like RPoL allow you to play by forum post.

    Also:

Critical Role - Voice actors playing DnD, Matt Mercer (The DM) is an amazing Dungeon Master and shows how the game should be played.

Matthew Colville - Amazing videos on being a DM, must watch material for every DM. Even when your opinions differ he gives good reasons and great advice.

    Compendiums

These let you ciew all the free open rules (SRD & Basic Rules) for D&D 5e at no cost.

Roll20 Compendium - Has all the open rules for the game, so a good source for monsters, items, spells, etc.

DnDBeyond - A more official source for the content, plus you can buy all the materials released by WotC to use, and has a great character builder.

    Adventures & Maps

DMsGuild - Tons of free and paid adventures and other materials. The quality can be varying, but many are free and that can be great.

/r/dndmaps/ - What more can they say, D&D Maps.

Mike Schley Makes many of the maps for the D&D Adventures.
