Dont destroy any cool/old licence plates!

Use cardboard or get one of these

u/the_ocalhoun · 8 pointsr/Justrolledintotheshop

Dude, just get yourself one of these.

Comes with everything you need and works right out of the box.

I've been using ones like this for a few years. One failed (they're cheap pumps after all) but the replacement has been holding up for a long time.

12V power is convenient because you just clip it on the car's battery and have the car drain its own oil for you.

For real get one of these... Congrats it's now impossible to ever damage your plug. Makes the whole affair cleaner too, just attach some tubing feeding right to the oil drain...

Not a mechanic, but I occasionally change oil in my own and family members' cars. Anybody have experience with this form funnel? http://www.amazon.com/PIG®-Form---Funnel®-Flexible-Draining/dp/B003V9JWHO/

I buy the all in one catch pans that seal, once they're filled seal it up and empty it at AutoZone. You can find them at Walmart sometimes for pretty cheap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0059HJSA2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ivUYCbC3WJTBV

This is an old school idea. Fumoto has been making quick drain plugs for decades. Here’s an example:

The Fumoto valve gets used a lot.

DONT USE THE WRENCH SHOWN BELOW you will crack the canister!

You need to use the proper device similar to the one you got from Crappy Tire. What do you mean it didn't fit? I have one I got from an autoparts store which looks exactly the same and it fits all my Toyotas (Matrix, Corolla, Rav4, Tundra).

You have to line up the tabs. Did you remove the metal tab first?

Pro-tip: it is easy to over-torque the canisters which makes them an absolute bitch to remove after driving for a while. Use a torque wrench set to 18 foot pounds (IIRC - its written on the one cartridge). I strong recommend you get this or something like it https://www.amazon.ca/Toyota-Filter-Release-2-5L-5-7L-Cartridge/dp/B07F42KVP9/ref=sr_1_1?crid=14I2BJVA207XD&keywords=toyota+oil+filter+drain+tool&qid=1555962577&s=gateway&sprefix=toyota+oil%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-1 it makes it a lot cleaner.

Remember to replace the metal tab after you torque the canister.

I helped to develop a product for this a few years ago.

u/discardedlife1845 · 2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

It's an oil drain tank. It's built on a pressure vessel because you hook it up to compressed air to empty it into a bulk waste oil tank when full; alternatively if you forget to close the inlet valve you empty it over the shop ceiling like a geyser.

A few things from HF that I own and would recommend. Jack Stands, jack, breaker bar, 1/4'' ratchet, 3/8'' ratchet, 1/2'' ratchet, 3/8'' locking extensions, 1/2'' locking extensions, screwdrivers. Some other things I would recommend, Lisle oil filter wrench, Lisle oil pan. I would look on Ebay for used Craftsman sockets sets and combination wrenches. That should be enough to get you started. You can upgrade and expand from there as you see fit.

And Don't forget the HF coupons ;)

Here's an inexpensive project that you're children can help you with and makes a great thank you that will be enjoyed by children for years to come:

Get a couple of these oil drip pans and some chalkboard paint. That's actually the whole project, paint them and hang them up. Boards are magnetic or of course can be used with chalk.

Be sure to talk to principal/director (a good idea anyway as there may be something specific but inexpensive they are looking for, it is very unlikely they will say, "No thanks, our school has everything we need.") as various local regulations can dictate what is allowed in the classroom including "homemade" items.

Also the board can be mounted outside and great with a bucket of sidewalk chalk, if you are mounting on a chain link fence you can decorate the back as well as it will be seen from the other side.

Hope this helps :)

Great idea I forgot these were even a thing, I'm pretty sure Dad has them in his garden. This one looks pretty cheap.

16 inches is pretty decent actually. That's split log size if I'm careful.

You should consider a Fumoto valve.

u/miket0429 · 1 pointr/WRX

Definitely install a fumoto valve. No more fishing for drain plugs or burning your hand. Just open the lever and drain into a nice big oil pan. You can even control the flow for taking a small sample into a water bottle. Of course, none of this applies the first time you change the oil yourself to install it haha

Nothing I can think of isn't going to damage the fridge. My wife showed me something we're going to do for hanging my son's artwork. It's a thin metal drip pan. They're made to go under leaky cars so they don't drip on the pavement. Hang it on the wall and I think that would look pretty cool with a bunch of unique magnets.

Here's one for $20.

I used amsoil tranny fluid on my 07 si back in 2010. Seemed to shift a little smoother but not a hugely noticeable difference from OEM fluid.
There is a TSB for 3rd gear syncro issues and mine was fixed without cost at the dealership under warrenty. Not sure they would still fix it being 10+ years out.

Youll need an oil syringe from an auto store
https://www.amazon.ca/Suction-Vacuum-Fluid-Extractor-Syringe/dp/B01MFGJRMO.
Its not a difficult job, just make sure you add the necessary amount of fluid. Theres diy in 8thcivic.com

there's no getting around that its a complete PITA. yes, passenger front wheel off, car in the air (if you don't have a lo-pro jack, drive the car up on some 2x4's to give yourself an extra boost). do yourself a favor and get this thing called a "Form-A-Funnel", its a super malleable plastic sheet you can form into a gutter to carry the oil out from under the filter and over your control arm to drain into a bucket or rag or whatever. its not a hard procedure, just requires patience to deal with the filter.

I think you're making this a thing when it's not.

This fits under my kitchen sink.

Might be worth investing in oil pan type thing

Did you replace it with a K&N filter?

What about 2 peristaltic pumps, like this?

Flow rate is 500mL/minute, which would exchange all of the water in both baths in under 2.5 minutes.
