I don't know your location, but you can get them on Amazon prime for $134.99 USD. It still sucks, but it's better than $174.28. HTC's shipping charges are insane.

u/SvenViking · 45 pointsr/ValveIndex

While not impossible, I don’t think this represents any form of evidence. You also have a Vive headset, Vive controllers, and Vive base stations. The reason you’d specify “headset” in the product name is that it’s not a complete system. People need to be aware that they’re buying the headset only, and need to own or buy the base stations etc. separately.

u/AtlasPwn3d · 8 pointsr/oculus
u/cazman321 · 7 pointsr/ValveIndex

You linked belts for the trackers, not the trackers themselves. You're referencing base stations that come with the Index kit, which are necessary to use trackers. The trackers are not included with the kit. Each tracker is $99 https://www.amazon.com/VIVE-Virtual-Reality-System-Tracker-pc/dp/B0748ZY323

u/Blaexe · 6 pointsr/virtualreality

> Does it include a third sensor

If you want to.
https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Roomscale-Bundle/dp/B072F64645/ref=sr_1_3/147-0930537-1722101?ie=UTF8&qid=1497721398&sr=8-3&keywords=oculus+rift+bundle

No advantage to buying the parts individual though.

> and little things like mounts for the sensors, or a PCI card for all the USB's.

Does everbody need this? No. People can decide this on their own. I thought having a choice was a good thing? You can configure the Rift the way you want it. If you don't need it all, you can save some money.

u/Weathon · 6 pointsr/oculus

If i where you I would actual get this one, its on sale right now(i assume GB as you write in pounds).

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oculus-Marvel-Powers-Special-Limited/dp/B07F6WN2LJ/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1542882530&sr=8-4&keywords=oculus+rift

It's £349.99, so 79 pounds more, but you have a new one with 2 years warranty, the normal free games like robo recall + Marvel Powers United.

Other than that, the rift is definitely 130 pounds better than the acer, assuming you can easily set up the sensors in your room.

The rift got vastly superior controllers (ergonomics and tracking) and the better software (Oculus Dash & ASW).

Dont get me wrong, the acer for 150 pounds is great too. But if you want to have a way more polished experience get the Rift (and eventually the above mentioned deal).

u/BullockHouse · 6 pointsr/virtualreality

The lenovo exporers with no controllers can be had for under $200.

u/TriVerSeGD · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

Just found a Prime Day deal for the Vive Pro starter kit, save $200 (still $899.99). https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Virtual-Reality-System-Starter/dp/B07NQ9GXRC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=steam%2Bindex%2Bvr&qid=1563234128&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1
Just wanted to throw this out there for anyone looking at a Vive! I'm keeping my eye on VR prices because I want one, but the prices are still more than I'm willing to spend. From what I've been researching, I think I'm gonna get the Steam Index as opposed to any of the other ones.

u/this_guy_aves · 5 pointsr/Vive
u/Szoreny · 5 pointsr/Vive

You'll probably want a little extension if you're going to be swapping devices alot, I use HTC's official one

But if you're allergic to spending ~$10.00 you could probably shave down the connector of one you have lying around the house until it fits into the Vive's compartment.

u/Grays42 · 5 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

I have over 300 hours in an Oculus Rift. Actually, I have three Oculus Rifts, because I accidentally dropped and broke two of them. (Not a design fault per se, I was just careless twice. If you drop it on a hard surface from 5 feet up, it WILL shatter the screen.) I also possess a HTC Vive--which is in a box on the shelf.

I decided to try this "VR thing" when I found a good deal on a used Oculus. It blew me away. Holy crap. I dove so deep that I decided to also get a Vive, to play around with them both and possibly sell whichever one I didn't want.

What I found is that the Vive controllers are obnoxiously heavy and unwieldy, especially with my favorite game, Beat Saber. I felt like I was swinging cleavers around. By comparison, the Oculus Rift touch controllers were more balanced around my palm. Especially in my "Beat Saber grip", which I found was easier to play with if I moved my fingers up into the ring until the outer ring rests against my knuckles. This centers the weight of the controller squarely in my palm, and makes it so that I can swing the controllers faster than humanly possible.

Either of the headsets will do pretty good tracking. However, I do strongly recommend getting a third sensor, regardless of which set you choose--adding another sensor DRAMATICALLY helps with tracking for any game that requires you to turn around, and even helps with tracking on games that you face forward but sometimes your hands go in weird angles. Set the sensors in a triangle formation around the room.

I can go over cons of both if you want, but my absolute endorsement is going to go to the Oculus Rift, based primarily on the controllers. The controllers are your window into the world, and the Rift Touch controllers are phenomenal digital extensions of your physical hand. The controllers are BY FAR the most important thing to consider when choosing a headset. And, when the next-gen headsets come out, I will be making my choice based solely on the controllers.

A few things you will want to accessorize with if you pick the Rift. You'll notice that half of these are to keep your equipment clean--this is a lot more important than you think at first.

  • Wear a sweatband if you're going to play any physically demanding game, like Beat Saber. You'll get sweaty. You don't want to get sweat all over your headset.
  • Baby wipes or makeup remover wipes, use on all smooth skin/hair contact surfaces (headset harness, handsets) after each session.
  • Get this washable faceplate cover, or two of them, and wash them regularly. Guests to your Oculus will thank you. :\
  • Get disposable foam earpiece covers for the same reason.
  • Get a AA battery charger and some good rechargeable batteries.
  • Get a third sensor (mentioned above)
  • If you want to mount the sensors on your wall, either buy or 3D print these.
  • Get a USB 3.0 extension cable and an HDMI extension cable so you don't have to worry about the cord length.

There are kits out there to let you suspend the cord from the ceiling, but I feel like that's overkill--I always just have it run between my legs to the computer. I can feel it against my lower leg or calf and know where it is so I don't trip. Note that this is fine for beat saber, but for games where you are turning around constantly, it may be a problem. The main thing is to have plenty of slack on your cord so if you trip you don't yank something, you can really damage the USB cord if you yank it at an angle. If you can somehow pin the cable against or under furniture so that a hard yank does not tug at your USB port, even better.

Finally: some games are a goddamn workout, like Beat Saber. Treat these games like you would treat cardio: stretch beforehand, warm up, drink water, have a towel nearby, and have a fan on you. AND KEEP YOUR EQUIPMENT CLEAN.

It's 1 tracker and a gun OR 1 tracker and the racket for $149. Not everything for $149.

> The accessory bundles include a Hyper Blaster gun and tracker with Duck Season for $149.99, and a Racket Sports Set which includes custom molded and weighted rackets and a tracker with Virtual Sports for $149.99.

Here are the links to Amazon:

u/mail1118 · 4 pointsr/RiftForSale

I'll have to point out this is a bad offer. All 3 items cost $660 new together. You pay $15 extra for used condition. And the Touch controllers come with free games that go to the first person that uses them. So you miss out of 4 free games, get used condition, and pay $15 more.

Here is a link to Amazon for a bundle of the same items, new, and with 4 free games for less: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift-Virtual-Reality-Headset/dp/B072F64645/?th=1

I don't know if this was intentional but you need to lower your price.

Also, you never took a timestamped picture of the items with your username, which is required.

This is one of the cheapest bundles you can buy:
https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift-Virtual-Reality-Headset/dp/B06XCKKG8F

It has the Rift + Touch + PC for $1100. Since Rift + Touch is $600, then the PC is ~$500.

BestBuy also has a similar build but w/o Touch for $999: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/oculus-rift-virtual-reality-headset-cyberpowerpc-gamer-ultra-vr-guavr3000b1-desktop-package/9999277100050000.p?skuId=9999277100050000

If you have the money, bump it up to $1300 and get that bundled PC; it's what I have and it's a lot better.

I wonder if that's why some people are having issues with lenses...those aren't supposed to stay on. They're like the little film protectors that come on phones, just to protect from dust during shipping.

But looks like there are some actual lens protectors for pretty cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Protector-Oculus-Quest-Virtual-Reality-2Pairs/dp/B07SSGXXJS

It is still available. https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-USB-Extension-Cable-pc/dp/B01LZ23EDX just no longer included for some reason. Honestly in some regards I feel like this is more flexible than the frunk. Since you can easly mount your mod anywhere on the headset with this.

u/OutsiderLookingN · 2 pointsr/PSVR

I might consider if they offer a free trial or they sell it on Amazon. The PC 3DRudder is on Amazon

There is no free trial because:

  • 3DRudder customers pay return shipping expenses unless the product is defective.
  • 3Drudder has a 15 day return policy. I can't find the return policy or warranty information on their website.
  • 3DRudder charges for shipping.
  • and from the Knowledge base:

I tried your product but I am not convinced. May I return it?

If you buy Rift and Touch you get seven games free. Additionally, you can purchase The Rift, Touch, and a third sensor on Amazon and get those same seven games free PLUS an additional $100 in store credit.

https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Rift-Virtual-Reality-Headset/dp/B072F64645/?th=1

If you DON'T buy touch you're losing out on a lot of other aspects of VR.

I should note that I bought the Rift specifically for Elite as well and thought "I don't need/want touch." But then the price dropped to include Touch for the same amount as what the headset was anyway, so I went for it. I have spent more time playing other games and experiences since I purchased it than in the cockpit in Elite.

/u/MajorCodeBlue check out the link for the amazon bundle as there are only a few left and it is a great deal.

Edit: I don't see mention of the $100 store credit anymore and sounds like it may have been a limited time offer, therefore if you just buy the Rift/Touch combo ($599) and don't want the third sensor you can save $60.

Oculus Roomscale Bundle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072F64645/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_JOJzzbQ4PF4SB

In my original post roomscale was two words, my bad.

Also, Amazon should really not be selling bundles if canceling an order is too complex for them to do.

u/TrefoilHat · 2 pointsr/virtualreality

Since both play the same games, you may want to look at the bundled software for each - what's better than games? Free games!

  • With Rift (per Amazon listing): "7 Free games included with purchase: Robo Recall, Lucky’s Tale, Dragon Front, Quill, Medium, Dead & Buried, and Toybox"

  • With Vive (per Amazon listing): "Included Content from Viveport: Everest VR, Richie’s Plank Experience" and from this IGN article: "Starting today, every HTC Vive will come with a free copy of Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the multiplayer spaceship simulator from Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment."

Bolded titles above are the bigger budget/higher rated games. Of course, some love the others too, but they tend to be more niche (like sculpting/art) or indie/"experiences" (e.g., Richie's Plank Experience, Toybox).
u/Ajedi32 · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

I think there'll probably be purpose-built carrying cases for Quest once it comes out.

Quest is meant to be portable, so it wouldn't surprise me if we even see something from Oculus themselves, like they have for Go: https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Carrying-Case-not-machine-specific/dp/B07JDPW5MN/

u/borpinteric · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

Thanks for sharing your experience.

As for the case, I have this one and it’s actually very nice - especially for the low price. My only complaint would be the small size, but that could actually be considered as a positive thing too. :)

u/W00lph · 2 pointsr/virtualreality

Yes, that would be a deal! The starter bundle is also on sale though for $799 so at least that's a bit more reasonable than original price: https://smile.amazon.com/HTC-Virtual-Reality-System-Starter/dp/B07NQ9GXRC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=htc%2Bvive%2Bpro&qid=1575141564&sr=8-1&th=1 .... and Amazon Warehouse has some returns for $640 and $704.

u/ThatMind · 2 pointsr/EliteDangerous

It really makes you feel like you're sitting in a ship, it really is an amazing experience. You can turn around and see the rest of the cockpit behind you. If you use the external camera, you feel like you're floating in space and look at your ship. It feels and looks like real.

You can order it from Germany and have it delivered to Hungary, it 5,99 €.

I'd suggest getting Lenovo Explorer for 299,95 € if your head isn't too big or small, just make sure that your graphic card is good enough.

Edit: Here Obsidian Ant tries to answer is getting a VR set worth it.

u/Schneider21 · 2 pointsr/OculusQuest

Those better be some amazing freakin' ear buds for that much money...

The case looks similar to the official one for the Go... which I don't care for at all. I have two Go headsets for development at work, and my boss picked up the official case, while I ordered a Kootek case from Amazon. After clearing out the horrible chemical smell from the Kootek, it's a far superior case for a good bit less money.

Anyone looking to get a case for the Quest (and really, it should be everyone!), consider waiting a bit and seeing what third party options are available.

You could try Amazon for the base stations:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01M01B92P

But to tell the truth, the cheapest way to get a full set of controllers and base stations is to just buy a complete Vive. The headset is essentially free if you add up the cost of two controllers and two base stations.

Tracker

I'm guessing the 2018 model here (blue logo) is the one ya are talking about. For something like VR chat would four trackers have any use? I see most people buy them in groups of three. Do the sensors come with anyway to strap to the body or do I need to buy those as well?

> from oculus will be the first rift , which will look out dated.

Samsung Odyssey came out in the end of 2017, Vive pro soon after.
So Rift and Vive are outdated for a while now. People still buy more Rifts/Vives than Odysseys and Pros combined.

And PSVR dwarfs all PCVR sales combined. Are you saying that PSVR sells so well, because it is technically superior to even the crappiest PCVR headset?

u/MayBeTall · 1 pointr/Vive

Amazon has both new and used Vive Trackers (2018 version) for reasonable prices ($88 used, $100 new).

https://www.amazon.com/VIVE-Virtual-Reality-System-Tracker-pc/dp/B0748ZY323/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1539862636&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=vive+tracker+2018&dpPl=1&dpID=31-Qee3ynLL&ref=plSrch

Also, make sure you know which model tracker you are buying. The 2018 ones with a blue logo support lighthouse tracking 1.0 and 2.0. The old ones without the blue logo support just 1.0.

If you buy a 2018 version and don't receive the tracker with a blue logo you should return it saying it's an older model.

Prices are already coming down. If you have a Plastation 4, you can get that VR set. On PC, the cheapest (and probably best suited for this game) solution is the $600 Oculus Rift. You need a PC with at least an NVidia 960. I see there's a $1300 PC + Rift + Touch bundle on Amazon.

u/DJ_clem · 1 pointr/VAMscenes

The actual units are the same.

The difference is that the VR version comes with a mount to attach the thing to your headset and a 15' usb cable. Some people seem to do all right rigging their own mounts with double sided tape or velcro. And maybe you already have a cable long enough to go from your headset to the computer.

So if money's tight you could skip the VR version. I got it for convenience sake.

I also got one of these so i can plug the thing right into the USB port on the Vive headset, rather than running another cable back to the computer. Without the 90 degree usb plug adapter, the Vive cover wont fit on when something is plugged into it.

I haven't put any of this to the test yet.

Yeah, I think the official one is just a tad overpriced too.

I've heard good things about this one for $21 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Carrying-Headset-Controllers-Protective-Storage/dp/B07SVGFT4Q

If you want a hard shell case, I have this from Harbor Freight and it works great: https://www.harborfreight.com/2800-weatherproof-protective-case-medium-63926.html It's small enough and fits everything in it just fine. Gives my quest very good protection while I'm traveling. It's $30, but there is a coupon right now that makes it $20 on there website until the end of the month: https://images.harborfreight.com/hftweb/weblanding/home-coupons-october2019/images/22.jpg

I mean they exist and you can buy them

Vive Pro on sale for $800, seems to be a good deal? I haven't been following it extremely closely, but https://keepa.com/#!product/1-B07NQ9GXRC seems to imply it's usually $1100.

I just used the stands the sensors came with and put them on my roof upside down, but you can buy proper wall/ roof mounts from amazon or you could even 3D print your own. The mounts would help if you want a good looking setup though.

I put the sensors on the roof so I would t run into them and knock hem over

Well, the point of stereo cameras is to have overlapping fields of view, so you can track points from multiple viewpoints at the same time (which lets you estimate their depth).

But certainly there are inside-out tracking devices that use a pair of fisheye cameras (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Daydream-Standalone-Worldsense-Tracking-Ultra-Crisp-Designed/dp/B0793R2Q23/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1525242245&sr=8-1&keywords=mirage+solo)

Honestly, those are kind of crappy...

Some purchasers have received lens covers (advertised for Quest) that were too large.

The ones I bought were not, but because they were flat, the edges were crinkled, and air bubbles would not push out, despite how careful I was applying them. They also left a lot of residue on the lenses, and I had to use a liquid cleaner to remove, which Oculus recommends against.

On Facebook, someone made a similar comment about the Healingshield protectors being flat and the edges wrinkling as well, but they smoothed the lenses out by warming them with a hair dryer on lowest warm setting. I bought the healingshield protectors as well, but haven't applied them. And I'm not 100% sure about even low level heat and the lenses.

I bought the WidmoVR Plano lenses as well, but ended up ditching them for the Thingiverse medium thickness rings. I wear glasses and the Planos definitely hit my glasses. If you don't wear glasses, I think they are a good solution. Maybe even coupled with a film protector...

Overall, be careful, but I wouldn't "freak out" about damaging them. Use common sense and care, and you'll be fine. Too much worry becomes a quality of life issue. Did you buy the Quest to have fun or have something to worry about all the time?

For a cheap cover, use the cardboard that came with the Quest. If you don't have it, search for the template here and trace it onto some cardboard. Or a dollar store flip-flop sandal. Cheap and effective.

Thanks! I was looking at that one, glad to hear it’s a good one. They’re back ordered/slowboated into August at this point so I guess they’ve been popular.

Edit:

I needed a case that would fit in my carry-on bag for a week-long conference in early August so bought one of these:

Orzero Hard Carry Case

Hopefully it’ll turn out to be decent too. It doesn’t have all the pack-ins and pockets yours does though.

I use the mamut skulls. They look great and work great. Not to protect my Vive controllers. I used them to protect my furniture and fragile basement ceiling tiles. They stay on with the help of these hairbands. If you get them and message me, I can show you how I twist the bands on (it took a while to figure out the best way to do it).

I bought a pack of these.

Do you believe they'll hold up? 3M tape is nice, but I wasn't sure how heavy a sensor is and all.

Why the ceiling vs the wall specifially? Just to get higher up?

u/PwncakeIronfarts · 1 pointr/virtualreality

Here's the drawing I promised. It's not perfect dimensions, but it's pretty close. I used the speaker pictures in place of the Oculus sensors, and the red lines are the USB cables. I forgot to mention that I used wall mounts to stick them on the wall, though that's not strictly necessary.

The wall mounts can be bought here. You can also 3d print them with files from thingaverse, if you have access to a 3d printer.

EDIT: The TV/Monitor picture is backwards. I'm a moron. Lol.

If you want something low-profile ish that's pretty inexpensive, I use these which work really well. I've had them up over a year now, never had an issue. The 3M strips won't hurt paint or anything either.

Recent reviews on amazon are saying that this base station being sold is 2.0

Edit - it is not, it's 1.0, thanks all for the correct info!
