I'm also wondering this.

  • It's a bit suspicious given that this model can't be bought anywhere other than amazon.

  • This model only has 10 reviews. It's almost like it was just added to amazon for this sale. The 650 has over 2000 reviews.

  • The thetracktor page for the 614 has very little fluctuation in price, which is a bit suspicious imo. The thetracktor page for the 650 has a lot more regular price movment.

I'd say that although it's a reasonable deal for a Roomba, I don't think it's as good a deal as they'd like us to believe.

edit: According to the the Amazon page, the only difference between the 614 and 650 is the scheduling feature. I'd say it's a pretty decent deal. I may end up going for it.

Given your 3 cats, you might want to try and get a Roomba Pet Series model. Compared to the regular model, the Pet Series' bin is larger and, most importantly, the brush is designed for easier removal of pet hair. That being said, I've owned a Roomba for 5 years, and in that time it has saved me probably days of vacuuming. I don't own pets, but I have 3 young kids who are constantly dropping dirt, crumbs, etc. Even when the floors look clean, the Roomba winds up picking up lint and dust in its bin - great, great stuff.

I got an iLife A4 about 8 months ago and it’s done a great job. It’s pretty basic but gets the job done.

buy a cheapie and see if you like it:

or buy a real roomba from costco or somewhere local that has a good return policy to try it out for a few weeks.

Neato Botvac D80 for pets - it's been fantastic.

u/KittenTablecloth · 2 pointsr/OldSchoolCool

For Valentine's day I asked my boyfriend for a robot vacuum instead of flowers. I know last year he spent over $100 for one of those elaborate arrangements, and I was able to convince him that a robot vacuum would give me pleasure and happiness every day instead of flowers that will die in a week. I did a bunch of research and we got an ILIFE vacuum, which was only $180 on amazon. Totally affordable, you should look into it. An $800 name brand Roomba might be better if you have carpet, but this guy works wonders on hardwood. I am not a shill. Just a happy girl with a big, shedding dog and now constantly clean floors.

Edit: I bought the ILIFE A4. Just looked it up on Amazon to link it and there is apparently an updated version they just released called the A4S which is $220 but now you can buy the older model I have for only $120

When this Tesvor went on sale for $99 one day on NewEgg, I picked one up not knowing the value. I've been very happy with it. Mapping, remote, Alexa compatible and self-charging.

I have the Neato Botvac D80...

My house is 2 levels too, we have a living area that is lower than the rest of the house and high pile carpet (thick/long) and tile floors.

Highlights:

  • Easy to move it to whichever level we want to clean, works like a charm.
  • No app involved, maps out a room on its own and cleans inside the edges it figures out
  • Has cliff/edge detection. It hasn't fallen into the living area from the other level once.
  • It is pet rated, we have a goldendoodle which doesn't shed a ton but still has hair that can fall off in chunks. Picks it up no problem.
  • It can spot clean, place it wherever you want and hit a button on the top, will move around and clean in a nice, small area.
  • Easy to change plastic bin which collects what it picks up. We have a new baby and I haven't seen it NOT pick up anything she drops when eating.
  • My only beef is it makes a bit of noise so you know its running, but its still more quiet than a regular vacuum so is that really a problem?
  • Last but not least, if you have a large level to clean, like a few rooms at a time, it will stop mid-clean if the battery is getting low and return to the station to recharge. Once it gets enough battery, it will go to where it left off and finish the job.
u/MA_doubleT · 2 pointsr/AskMen

I just bought this one a couple weeks ago, it was on sale for $179, looks like it's a bit more than that at the moment. It has great reviews and works absolutely perfect for me, I live alone in a 1 bedroom apartment with no pets. It cover my entire place, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/dining area and living room without getting stuck on anything. I was concerned it wouldn't be able to find it's way back to the base due to the somewhat strange layout but it has made it back every time so far.

After a couple weeks I absolutely love it. I have it scheduled to run M/W/F while I'm at work and coming home to a freshly vacuumed apartment is the best.

That is the model I have, but it's an older model now, so it's in that weird stage of life where the price is higher for it now than it used to be. It's a great model, but the newer ones are probably better bang for your buck, or if you want that model I'd set a price watch on it and snag it when it gets under $300 again. My price checker says it was $100 for a third party new one at one point which would be a steal

The wife and I recently picked up this Eufy on sale for $170 and it does a pretty good job. However, we have mostly luxury vinyl plank with a couple rooms in carpet. I would recommend checking the reviews for fully carpeted houses.

They make a special roomba for pet hair as standard roombas don't pick it up well/fill quickly. It's about $250 on Amazon. I've never used a roomba so I can't vouch for them but I've heard many good things.

u/Dorkinator69 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I've had a Neato and it's been going strong for over 2 years I normally run it 2-4x a week when I go out. I chose it over a roomba because roombas sweep where as the neato is an actual vacuum. This may have changed since I've done my research bur you can verify for your self. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D5EID84/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have an ILife A4, this is the newest version. This is not a "smart" model. It randomly moves around the room, senses walls, furniture and corners. It then turns or backs out. If it doesn't sense it it has a bumper that will stop and turn it. Some of the more expensive models, Roombas, are smart. They map the rooms and follow a pattern.

The newer models entering into the market have WIFI, which I would have scoffed at two years ago. I'm very interested in that feature. I can schedule mine to go once a day or manually launch it. It runs for 2 hours and charges for 2 hours. At that point I can launch it gain, but I have to be home. If I had the new WIFI feature I could launch it from my phone. Others I think will run, charge and run again(repeat). But every "feature" raises the price.

I can't recommend a model since your situation is unique. Things to consider.

  • Pile of carpet, can it handle high pile

  • Transitions, how high are they and will it make it over

  • Furniture, is the height of the vac just enough to get stuck under that one piece of furniture that has a slight bend in it. MY DAMN TV STAND!!! I've solved the problem though.

  • What is it going to be picking up, if pet hair you want to review the best for that.

I can close some doors to rooms and contain it. or put down a chair to keep it in a certain area. This is needed for the dumb ones. I'm fine with it, it's just me and my son so we work around some of the little things that keep it running freely. Even when we're home we run it, we'll be playing the Xbox and lift our feet when it comes looking for dirt!

Ultimately it's akin to buying a car. What are the must have features and which ones are not really needed.

Another thing to consider is will it be running on any area that has black. Mine recognizes that as a drop and backs out so it won't fall off an edge. I have carpet with black stripes that confuses the hell out of it. I just put electrical tape over those sensors, I don't have any drop offs in my house, one floor.

I would say look at the Eufy models, they get talked up quite a bit.

I bought one of these robot vacuum cleaners. Vacuuming was my partner's chore but his idea of how often to do it was about 4x less frequent than I thought he should do it. The botvac was expensive as all hell but it has really helped our relationship. :p

My tip would be to identify the 'smells' in your house. Those should be your daily chores. Check if the bins need emptying, take the compost outside, freshen the loo and wipe down the sinks.

Secondary smells are smells that build up over time. Those are your bedlinens, laundry and showers. Check those daily but do them weekly in any case.

u/OssotSromo · 1 pointr/homeautomation

If you don't want wifi and don't have carpets just go lower end. Not shooting shade but 900sqft isn't that large. I'd imagine even a no name shitty Chinese brand can bang it out long before the battery dies.

https://www.amazon.com/eufy-Upgraded-Super-Thin-Self-Charging-Medium-Pile/dp/B07P31F5YG/

I use a 30C which is essentially the same but with wifi and barrier strips. I have carpets and hardwood and 3 cats and a dog. Because carpets, animals, and a bigger floor plan I have to do more supplementing than you want, but ya. If I run him daily shit stays solid.

u/Why_T · 1 pointr/tifu

I love my Roomba, I have 2 dogs that shed. I have never had this issue that OP is talking about. (you can see my BS comment above)

I would suggest buying the Pet Series Roomba it's designed for handling all the pet hair.

Mall.cz or Alza.cz are our shitty versions of Amazon.
Aukro.cz is our shitty version of eBay.

Both Amazon and Ebay works in CZ very well. no real reason to use our shitty versions (only if you insist in Czech specific 2 years warranty)

For example, couple monthes ago we buy this robotic cleaner from Amazon.de for 449 EUR and free shipping which was something like 12200 CZK with EUR/CZK exchange rate back then. exact same thing here for at least 16000

u/Apocrathia · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

Not quite in your price range, but a refurbished Roomba 650 is $299. I have 2 of these units, and have had them for about 6 years now. While they're not foolproof or a replacement for a traditional vacuum, they do a great job at keeping the floors clean if you run them every day. They do require the same maintenance and cleaning that a traditional vacuum would, but instead of having to vacuum once a week, I do it once a month.

u/punkbananas · 1 pointr/Advice

I live in NYC so 2500 sqft is considered medium. LOL. I guess it depends on location.

This is the one I use. It is just under $200, works great, and is WiFi-capable so you can control it via app. I recommend it!

u/Boap69 · 1 pointr/homeautomation

I have an ILIFE V5s pro that I love. Gets the hair and is able to go between our rooms from carpet to wood floors. As an FYI pick up any cords as this vacuum loves finding them.

We've got a Bosch one like this but an older model. Does a good job at clearing up the house and have had it for 6-7 years and going strong.

On prime day we bough a [Eufy 11c] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eufy-RoboVac-Cleaning-Schedule-Self-Docking/dp/B0769G8BC2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542708488&sr=8-3&keywords=eufy+11c) for £180. It's great for daily little cleans when we are at work.

We've got a house rabbit who sheds lots, and a beagle who leaves a few hairs around too. The combination of once a week with big hoover and robovac a few times a week seems to keep the floors looking good.

I was on the fence for a long time and it took getting one for Xmas as a gift to finally get one into my hands. It is the cheapest $129 vacuum, but if you don't require "automation" or fancy WiFi this thing is a workhorse and cleans very well. I was given the iLife A4 and I have crazy irregular slate floors and it does the floors and carpet well. Like any of them you just have to empty and clean it every time to keep it happy. Edit: also I don't care that it doesn't always find the dock, I imagine most vacs wouldn't since I want the dock in a corner out of sight.
