Why can't people provide links?

I am asuming it is this one that you bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/carefresh-Custom-Hamster-Bedding-Natural/dp/B00OUVDCVY

Whilst the description does not state expanded/unexpanded there is a clear picture of the packaging in the advert which does show it.

I think you will struggle in any legal capacity as the photo clearly shows the size, however you might have a chance on the fact that you believed it was packaged size. you would have to demonstrate that a reasonable person would have reasonably assumed the size.

That said, if it is unopened you can return it at your expense for a full refund

This item isn't dispatched or fulfilled by amazon, so their cover won't fully apply either. Contact them, be nice and you may get a good resolution.

Wooden platform (they easily bolt onto the cage wires)

Another.

Another.

Wooden log

Arch made of sticks: I have three of these in Max's cage and pens, they're great for hiding under and climbing over. If you wedge some small seeds in between the sticks it will encourage scratching.]

Wooden wheel: these are good because it's the constant rubbing of the claws through running that gets them and keeps them a nice length

Wooden rainbow: you can get one with colours as well

Wooden seesaw

You can use a wooden ramp or ladder. If you use it between the ground and a shelf or two shelves

Another.

Other accessories: again squashing little seeds in between the woven parts should encourage scratching to get it out

I often keep my mice playing on a table that they cannot climb elsewhere to. Mice tend not to jump from high places so you can rest well knowing they won't get lost.

If you're still not satisfied with that, you can also get a small fence that attaches to most cages like this one: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B000HHQ2I0/ref=oh_aui_i_sh_post_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have this fence for my mice and it works well! However they can squeeze beneath the part of the fence that connects to the cage so you can put a piece of cardboard or a shirt to block the large opening and they should stay in the fence.

I actually adopted him from a friend who could no longer take care of him, so I am just in the beginning stages of getting him set up. I'll need to buy him a bigger cage before we can get him a cage-mate, which is something I'm working on. Apparently Francis used to have a brother, but he died a few months ago. I can tell that he needs a friends though, he is a bit mopey and I have a feeling that is why.

His cage is too small to put another rat in there comfortably. I'm saving up for this one.

This play pen is really amazing! I’ve found my rats can’t climb up the walls or escape and it’s plenty of room for them to roam!

Get yourself one of these. It will allow you to keep your crickets for a long time and offer them food and drink. I often ordered a hundred or so and kept them around for months

u/mtlchk · 3 pointsr/squirrels

That bump is her clitoris. The males have a penis sheath that sits in the middle of their abdomen. Their actual penis folds over and is about 2/3 the length of their whole body. It stays inside the sheath unless they are cleaning it, so most people never see it. Here is a video showing the gender difference in baby squirrels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgg-vagVKKc

It is really not safe to sleep with her. I've read a lot of cases where people roll over and crush them in their sleep. We don't stay still when we are sleeping, and they are so small that you won't feel them when you roll over on top of them. It's very dangerous to sleep with them.

For beds, they like things that hang like this https://www.amazon.ca/Ware-Manufacturing-Hang-N-Tunnel-Crinkle-Sleeper/dp/B000HG734S/ But you can also make her a cabin out of any box and stuff it with fleece, old tshirts, old sheets, etc. Just don't use towels as their claws get caught in them. Put the bed into the cage so that she starts to think of that as home. They like their beds to have roofs because it helps them feel secure.

Please no more water, pedialyte, peanut butter, coconut oil, anything else that is solid (except block) and cut the nuts way down. In fact, don't give any more nuts until she is eating block of her own volition and apparently likes it. She should have a chunk of rodent block to teethe on at all times, and don't give her any other solids until she is eating the blocks.

That she did not like the syringe right away is only because you started with a dropper. Droppers are not safe and should only be used in the very short term when you can't get anything else. Squirrels are creatures of habit, like any animal. Don't assume that you know better than an expert because she seems to like or dislike one thing or another, such as the dropper vs the syringe. She will not like the rodent blocks at first, either, and this is because you have been giving her so many nuts. But she needs them, and you need to get her used to them. Be a good squirrel father and make sure she eats healthy food (blocks and formula) before she eats treats. Ideally, this means cutting out the nuts completely until she is eating blocks. This is a life and death issue, so don't kid yourself about its importance. I recommend harlan teklad 2018, and they need to eat blocks so long as they are living indoors, no exceptions. Leave a block in her bed for night time teething at all times and change it as necessary.

I was not kidding about how difficult they are to live with. Do not make the mistake of thinking that Eth is an exception. Baby squirrels are super easy in comparison to adults. Do you live in a location where you could possibly do a back yard release? If not, then it is almost certainly better for both of you that she go to a rehabber. Please think about all this very carefully, and don't be blithe about it. Don't be guided solely by your feelings, either, because it is normal to fall in love with a baby squirrel. Sometimes love means making difficult choices because what is most pleasant for us might not be good for the loved one.

Addendum: If she gets weak, tired acting, colder than usual and/or if you hear faint wheezing/clicking when she breathes, she needs to go on a general antibiotic RIGHT AWAY. It is a waiting game now to see whether or not she develops aspiration pneumonia because of your getting fluid into her lungs. She might be strong enough to fight the infection on her own, but it is at least as likely that she will not be. If she shows signs of being overwhelmed by the infection, then she needs medicine or else she will die.

Would you please comment on this post so that I know that you read it? Thanks.

I bought this for my boy Eli for Xmas...he lost his marbles...he loves it soooo much...he has a 20 gal long tank so you can fit the whole thing inside but it doesn't leave room for his wheel. I would never advise someone to only get one ferret. It isn’t really fair to the ferret, they’re meant to be with others.
Also the size of the cage is fine but cleaning it with those doors is going to be a huge pain in the ass. The double doors on this cage make cleaning it so much easier

Cardboard is a great option. Is she pushing the cardboard away or chewing holes in it? Another thing that you could try is to get a few of these really short fences and surround the bottom of your couch with it. They're only 9inches high and do a great job at blocking off lower areas.

u/mcKempt · 3 pointsr/Rabbits

So I got this for her cage: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTWZ857/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It arrives in 2 days. I realized her cage is extremely small for her size so I had to get something large enough that was cheap since the spay she's getting on Friday already is costing me a nice chunk. I can get more stuff next month (I have to buy college books later in the month so I'm like mega broke as it is)

As well as some fleece blankets. I was planning on doing bowls for water and kibble, with trays for timothy hay. Is that stuff ok?

I think she is a Netherland Dwarf? Perhaps around a year of age? My sister bought her from a pet store like 1.5 months ago on sale with no documents. If anyone can I.D. that would help me a lot! She weighs 2.8 pounds when I used a human scale.

She doesn't really have a name. I've just been ironically calling her 'Bunny'.

Edit: Should also note that I've been letting her free roam for about 8 hours today (she just came home with me last night) and has been pretty curious about my cats. No problems so far with the kitties; they seem to enjoy the 'new meat' lol (I'm kidding, they seem to like her)

Second Edit: Also, anyone have any sort of product they recommend for cord protection? I was looking at 'CritterCord' on Amazon but it seems like bunnies ate through those anyways. Should taping on the wall work?

u/euphorie · 3 pointsr/gerbil

Sorry about the creeping - I was mainly looking at your user history to see if you have ever posted anything about your gerbil before. I thought I might be able to give you better advice if I knew more about her.
What kind of houses to you give her that she chews up overnight? This is what my gerbils house looked like after about You could get her a house made out of hard wood or a coconut shell. My gerbils love both to hang out. I've also seen people use a flower pot with a hole. You'd also have to supply her with something to actually built a nest. Plain, unscented toilet paper would be good enough. She'll shred it and built her nest out of it.
You can also give her sticks you find outside to chew on. If you want to, I could try explaining how to make sure they are safe and mite-free. The safest way, however, would be to buy sticks like these, even though they are sort of expensive.

I would really recommend more bedding so she can burrow.

u/Turinggirl · 3 pointsr/Rabbits

They were from amazon. They came in packs of 12 and I bought like 3 or four of them so when he gets bigger I can expand the pen more. It has a 5% discount code too. Tespo Pet Playpen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XTWZ857/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_EbDKzbH7EBDRB

I look up ferret, sugar glider, etc. a lot when looking for stuff for my girls cages. There are a lot more products if I look outside of the "rat" search. Oh also we zip tie those rat ball things (the ones meant for you to put them into so that they run around outside their cage) to the walls of the cage with the lids off and they love to sleep, bathe, and do other rattie things inside and on them

u/vairuh · 2 pointsr/guineapigs

My pigs LOVE their crinkle tunnel. It was an impulse purchase on amazon, and has been their most used toy ever!

It's adorable to watch them run through back and forth. Sometimes they stop inside it and rustle around for extra crinkle-iness.

u/BornKnitting · 2 pointsr/hamsters

It's this play pen, I have the larger size and it is enormous so the smaller ones would probably also provide enough room for an active hamster to run around too.

I use paper bedding, hay, and throw some toilet paper tubes in that they can chew to keep busy and as more bedding. I also use some of this . It’s really cheap and is good to lay on the top. I buy it at my local pet store and it’s cheaper there. 13$ for a 30 liter bag. It expands a lot too

u/darkayden · 2 pointsr/RATS

When I boarded my girl rats at Andy's all four of them fit fine in that cage. Some stuff I'd recommend are get tons of Lava ledges so they can have different heights in the cage. They have Big ones and Small ones. The small ones are only available online now I think. My girls love to hop from one to another plus it will help file down their nails and teeth. I currently have 10 big ones and 8 small ones in my 2 cages. A hammock is great but you can also put a space pod in there too as another place to sleep or chill. I just got one for my girls but I'm waiting for a hammock to be chewed down before putting it in there. I also got The Bandit Bridge and my girls love that too. I mainly use it as a safety net in case they fall off one of the ledges. I'd rather have them land on a soft thing than the igloo or hard cage bottom. Basically I'm cutting the fall in half.

Also if you still want to get another cage I recommend The Rat Manor I have it and my girls LOVE it! It's big enough for 4 rats so 3 would fit perfectly plus it has a metal bottom so they can't chew holes in it. Other than that you seem to be on the right track. Just spend a lot of time with them and get them used to you kinda like a re-introduction to humans and they should turn out fine. They may have been scared of the kids and all the noise but it sounds like they should perk up to you in no time after they get used to their new surroundings. Good luck and keep us posted!

u/Furzie · 2 pointsr/PetMice

My personal favorite is this house set here! The blue and pink houses are designed to sit next to each other and look like one big house. It’s also the sturdiest Kathson house I’ve purchased so far. Kathson has lots of cute dollhouse adjacent mouse and hamster stuff. I’m a big fan.

u/Avii_Jade · 2 pointsr/hamsters

Got it on amazon . It's a maze on the inside with the top actually being a removable thin piece of plexiglass.

I have it upside down though and covered the top(actual bottom) with contact paper so it's easy to wipe down if he pees or poos on it.

u/Chasuwa · 2 pointsr/RATS

The wire floring is the main concern with that cage. There is a slight chance that a rat could get stuck/break a toe/get bumble-foot. I've had a similar cage for years with 15 some-odd rats over its lifetime, none have been hurt by the wire floor.

That being said, there are MUCH better cages out there. The feret nation cage is the sub-reddit-gold-standard. The cage has french doors that are the entire front of the cage. The shelving/ladders are hard plastic that is safe for rodents, and the base model comes with a stand to keep it off the floor and space to store food/bedding. It will absolutely be the next cage I buy.

Its a bit pricey (I'll look for a link) so if the cage you've shown us is in your price range then you have my go-ahead to get it. I have a similar one amd it works great.

Edit: found it! ~$130 for the single-story cage, ~$200 for the double.

I’m gonna advise against terrariums. Unless you live in a place that has very low humidity, and you’re house stays below 80, you’ll need a cage. Terrariums trap humidity, create a hot environment, and hold ammonia, all of which are bad for hedgehogs. Also if you went the terrarium route, you would be needing a 40 gallon breeder or a 55 gallon.
If you’re a little more handy, you could build a wooden Vivarium, and have large, hinged doors. Or you could assemble a c and c cage too. There are also some store bought cages the are pretty good.

Been using wood shavings for about 4 years now, (and we tried fleece for about 3 months, that didn't work out at all) and we just switched to this stuff two weeks ago. It's amazing.

The peegs just don't smell any more after a week.

Sure this stuff is more expensive, but it's worth every penny. It's also very heavy so you don't need much. We have three cages worth and the 30L bag gives us two weeks worth of changes.

u/kittypoocaca · 2 pointsr/RATS

I'd recommend using something like this instead of those puppy pads. It'll adsorb the ammonia better and give your buddies something to dig around in. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002MKZW4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/bruxbuddies · 1 pointr/PetMice

I have a 5 year old daughter and a 2 1/2 year old daughter. I will say that mice can be a delightful pet for your daughter -- with a few caveats.

  1. Consider the mice entirely your pets. While she may (and should) help out with cage cleaning, playing with them, refilling food and water, etc., you must be the one to keep the schedule.
  2. You should be present with her every single time she plays with them, until you're really 100% sure she understands how to handle them and what the rules are (how you get them out of the cage, where do they go, etc.). Mice are generally very sweet and do NOT bite unless they are squeezed, scared, or handled roughly. So you need to spend lots of time with your daughter demonstrating how to hold them. Use a toilet paper tube to pick them up in the beginning, and have a safe "free play" bin where she can interact with them and they can't escape. My older daughter was 3 when we first got a pair of hamsters, and then a year later we got 2 mice. Now we have 3 mice (two girls in one tank and a boy in another). I can let her take out her boy mouse while she's in her room and trust that she will play safely with him unsupervised and he'll be returned safely to his tank. Contrast this with her 7 year old friend who has had no pets (only recently got a dog), and when I let her hold one mouse, she immediately dropped it because it peed on her. So I think her age is great BUT she will need lots of supervision.
  3. Speaking of pee/poo, they will likely do so while you're holding them, at least in the beginning (when they are scared babies). It's really no big deal, though.
  4. I would get a 20-gallon tank and use a mix of aspen shavings and Eco Earth/reptile bark in one end for fun digging. They love to dig in bedding and the tank, with a secure lid, will be very safe. It will likely be as expensive as the bin cage, once you get all materials. Since you have a dog and cat you want NO chance of them getting in a cage. When you're playing with them in a bin, put it on a table. (Trust me... you can't leave them for a second, your dog/cat WILL come in and get to them.)
  5. I have gotten mice from PetCo and from a reptile "feeder" store. The PetCo mice were albino, clearly girls, and they tamed pretty quickly. The feeder store mice were adorable colors, BUT one turned out to be a boy. They were super young and took a little longer to tame. If mice are mixed girls/boys and they're older than ~6 weeks, the girls are likely pregnant. A local breeder is your best bet. Second best would be anywhere to get young (8-12 week old) mice that hopefully are gendered correctly and NOT pregnant!
  6. When you pick them out, pick the friendliest, calmest, most curious ones. If you put your hand in and one comes up to you, pick that one. Don't go for the extra cute one that bolts from you. Avoid one that rattles its tail or lunges to bite. They can all be tamed but the calm/brave ones will always be much easier and the shy ones will always be more timid.
  7. Taming will take a lot of time in the beginning. They need lots of short daily interaction with lots of treats like mealworms, or yogurt/peanut butter on a spoon (so they can't snatch a treat and run away). You might start with a small cage and then upgrade once they're tame. I wouldn't stick them in a huge cage with tons of hides at first. You want lots of positive interactions. And out of cage playtime in a fun safe area.
  8. I would get 3 girl mice. Boys can be sweet and mine is a doll, BUT they have a musk that is like mouse cologne. The pee/poo smell will be about the same for both (you'll need a full bedding change once a week), but the boy loves his smell and he always has it. Something you have to get used to, and clean more frequently.

Overall, mice are FUN, ADORABLE and underrated pets!! The 20 gallon tank will be loads of fun to put ropes, sticks, toys, hanging baskets, tubes, etc. inside and watch them go. Wooden houses like this and this are super fun for kids to put together. We go to Michael's and get wooden birdhouses/castles and put them in as hides. After you put in the time taming them (remember food = love), you and your daughter will have a blast. Good luck and share any pics if you get them!

As for water, here is what I use: E-Z Crocks . As for pens: I got 2 of these for each of our 2 rabbits. We stacked them on top of each other so they were tall enough (so total of 4 sets of paypens from amazon). We r in an apartment and they take up our dining room but totally worth it so they can have lots of space.

This is the problem hedgie I posted about a few days ago. I bought a new, larger enclosure for him and moved him into today. He was a bit grumpy during the move as I had to wake him up for it, but he's loving the cage so far it seems. The blue "ball" at the bottom of the cage is his hide...which he sleeps under. Underneath it is a pet safe Heating Pad to help regulate temperature in that hiding spot. It's designed for small animals so it only gets up to about 100 F or so (just over human body temp) and is under his bedding to keep him directly off of it. It's been enough to keep him warm in his previous enclosure which is nice. The cage is an Amazon Basics Small Animal Cage, Large which is a bit bigger than the previous enclosure. I've got to clean up his wheel and get it mounted for him, but after that he should be more comfortable than he was before. Hopefully this helps his attitude.

Hmm have you seen the keepers with the black tubes connected to the lid? Basically they crawl into the black tubes which you can remove then use to feed with.

This cage is cheaper for a reason. I urge anyone who has this cage to please, please, please install pans (if they don't make them, just improvise) onto the levels so the ferrets are not walking on wires. Walking on these wires their whole lives will mess up their feet and spines. I am currently witnessing the effects of wire cages on an elderly rat who is having a bad time with his spine and is dragging his hind legs from being raised on wire grates. His feet constantly get stuck in the wires and this type of design is just not good for the health of any animal.

I have and highly recommend the MidWest Ferret Nation cage. The single unit will be enough for two ferrets and is worth the money. The double unit will provide that much more room and will ultimately make happier ferrets. Ferrets love to run around, climb, generally be silly and extra room to play is never a bad thing if you can afford it.

The pans also make cleaning that much easier. Poop and food do not get flung all over the place as I imagine it would in a wire cage. Cleaning up after ferrets is hard enough. Why make it more difficult?

Believe me, this really is the better option. Especially when you're already spending near that amount on a cage. Your ferrets will thank you.

I got mine from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Kaytee-Super-Sleeper-Cuddle-Colors/dp/B0002ASBRM). It's very soft, but also easily cleaned!

u/porpoisesocks · 1 pointr/guineapigs

The absolute best thing I ever bought my boys was a small dog bed for rodents. The two of them used to cuddle up in there together, and it felt like a little home outside of the cage. I loved having one or two around because it was like a towel, only better. Whenever I would take my pigs out of their cage, they would be transported in this little cup. It became their safe space when in the big scary world :)) Easy to wash in the washing machine as well and lasted forever!

They will once or twice but that won't be a problem as long as they have access to wood chews. Nobody likes chomping metal :)

My first cage was this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GO0K80W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8nftDbM6QVWC0

I used it to house 4 girls by removing 1 of the floors for more vertical play space. Depending on where you are it may not be available but it should give you a rough idea on size. Again I cannot stress full front doors, which this model lacks, just for ease of cleaning. I upgraded this year to a Savic Royale 95 for about 2x the cost of the original cage but the build quality was well worth the investment, wish I had gone for it in the first instance.

I use flukers cricket quencher and powdered food, and a cricket keeper. I have very little die off, and can avoid going to the store weekly for crickets, woo!

tried their orange food/water and it smells awful when it dries out. The water pillows don't last long and I had alot of death with them. Potatoes or apples work, but they dont stay damp as long as the quencher does. So after much trial and error, thats the best combo I found.

Perhaps something more like this? If you put something heavy against it (bricks maybe?) she likely won't be able to get over it, but I suppose it depends on the couch you have if the playpen would work.

They always seem the smartest when they are trying to get what they want lol

> I am asuming it is this one that you bought https://www.amazon.co.uk/carefresh-Custom-Hamster-Bedding-Natural/dp/B00OUVDCVY

If it is that one then the dimensions are there "Product Dimensions: 33 x 10.2 x 17.8 cm", and come out at slightly less than 6 litres at 5991.48cc.

Yaheetech 52"?

Yes, young rats will probably be able to squeeze between bars spaced .75" to 1". If your adult ladies are small, they may be able to escape as well.

this is the cage and the rug.

u/EmpressSloth · 1 pointr/gerbil

Not sure how helpful this is but I got my gerbils a playpen like this which has worked well for them as it's quite spacious. Ronnie did work out he could jump up onto the top though after a few months (he's very much a gymnast!) so we did have to double up. We haven't had any problems with chewing but I suppose it depends on the gerbil.

We had such a big wheel that wouldn't fit in their cage at the time, so once we had a routine established of getting the gerbils out at the same time every day for playtime, they would clearly get excited for this. It did take them a few weeks to learn how to use the wheel... and take turns! But they got there in the end.

u/georgethecurious · 1 pointr/gerbil

Sure!

I buy practically everything on Amazon and these would be my top recommendations:

Hidey Hut - this is large enough to fit two grown gerbils and my first survived the chewing for close to 4 years.

Small Animal Pet Playpen/Exercise Pen - this is just tall enough for the jumpers. I've still had some be able to reach the top but it is a struggle and you'd be able to catch them in time. Really sturdy as well.

Kordon/Oasis (Novalek) SOA80304 Bell Bottle and Hold Guard Small Animal Value Set, 4-Ounce - this is by far my favorite recommendation of the bunch. I cannot tell you how many water bottles were just destroyed and I would come home to an empty bottle and a very wet gerbil. This thing is impenetrable!

Kaytee Hamster Silent Spinner, 6 1/2 inch Exercise Wheel - although I've had to buy a couple of these (they will chew the yellow part holding the bottom part to the wheel) I find that this is the sturdiest of them all. It becomes less silent the more they chew on it and push it around but it's never been loud enough to be considered especially annoying.

Great for cleaning cage and is safe

As far as dust baths go, I've tried several different kinds and find them all to be equivalent.

Would not recommend:

Ware Manufacturing Flying Saucer Exercise Wheel for Small Pet - the quality is fine here but if you are using carefresh, it gets buried and doesn't allow any give for it to spin.

Kaytee Woodland Get-A-Way Medium Hamster House - quality here is also fine and it's pretty thick so it would take a while to get them to chew. Since it is wood, it absorbs liquids. My gerbils would pee on it and it got to the point that it looked moldy and unhealthy so I just threw it out.

Alfie Pet by Petoga Couture - GARI Wood Hut for Small Animals like Dwarf Hamster and Mouse - Size: Large - this is the cutest little home I've ever seen. I had to eventually throw out though because the wood was so thin that the back wall collapsed due to their chewing and would no longer stand up.

Prevue Pet Products Multi-Color Small Pet Playpen 40090 - I think the quality is here too. It's just too short. My gerbils were easily able to escape this.

GreatChoice Water Bottle - chewed through in a week and Same

It's called Eco Bedding, and it's my favorite. They have unscented, or another with a very light scent that seems to control other odors a bit longer. It's zigzag-folded strips of paper, so it expands as they burrow in it. And there's no dust at all. It's great. We get it at one of the major chains (Petsmart or Petco, I can't keep them straight).
