Toilet seats can break easily. I use a "Big John" toilet seat. They can handle up to 1200 pounds.

These days, I wouldn't want to try the stairs or the floors of the duplex my grandparents used to live in. And sometimes I think I could pull a stairway railing right out of the base if I put all my weight against it.

Just get a soft close toilet seat problem solved.

u/Zap_Franka · 7 pointsr/CozyPlaces

*shudder*....I sure as hell don't...

but now let me introduce you to the horrible world of.... plush toilet seats!

u/abigaelb4 · 6 pointsr/BabyBumps

This is the one I have. You can buy one that has a hook up for hot water as well but my tap water isn't cold for whatever reason so it doesn't bother me to just have a cold water line. It uses the water that would eventually run to the tank. It's basically like using the water from your sink line--I know a lot of people think that its uses "toilet bowl" water but it doesn't. It's really easy to install. I actually have reinstalled it on a different toilet in my house and it worked on both. You do have to buy little spacers to attach to the bottom of your toilet seat since the bidet attachment makes the back of the seat sit a bit higher than the front. Again, they're really easy to install/uninstall. Definitely get the ones that screw on so they don't fall off one day into the toilet.

To use you just stay seated and SLOWLY turn on the knob. The one I have linked has SUPER HIGH water pressure but maybe there are models that aren't so strong. Do NOT turn it on while you're standing in front of it "just to make sure it works". I shot myself in the chest the first time I tested it hahahaha. Lots of guests also get curious and turn it on while standing in front of the toilet instead of sitting and end up getting shot in the chest or face. It's hilarious. My father in law for shot in the forehead with the water!

All in all its a 45$ investment if you use the same set up I did--definitely worth the money and if you can always upgrade to a different model if you end up liking it!

There are handheld type options that look like a shower head but they require maneuvering on the toilet and seem like more trouble than just staying seated.

I tried moist wipes for a while but a lot of them have alcohol in them and seemed to dry out more than they helped.

Sorry for the long winded response, hope it was helpful!

That looks like a lead drain, dont mess with it at all, otherwise you are in for a really really bad expensive time.
Instead buy a repair flange. Bolt it through the existing flange to the floor. Maybe put a bead of silicone between the two. Job done.

I would seriously look into one of these repair flanges. You can see there are six screws holding it to the floor. Use Tapcon concrete screws for the flange and a wax ring and that's probably the best you can do. One possible issue is that the concrete is too brittle from years of being somewhat wet, since those other bolts pulled right out.

Toilet is easiest to address by installing something like this.

https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Oddities-Offset-POF100-Repairs/dp/B017Y1KI6I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1522867331&sr=8-1&keywords=toilet+offset

Shower is much more complex. While the biggest issue cant be easily fixed, if you replaced the pipe the attaches the shower head to the wall, you could gain some height. The one that you have installed drops probably 3 inches. There are other options that will save an inch or 2. You could try to get a device like this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003RWSNBG/ref=twister_B009SOJD1Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

which would allow you to move the shower head a bit to the left and up (looking at it from the direction of standing in the shower looking at the shower head) This sort of increases the head room.

And lastly, an option that I would not like is to switch to a hand held unit so you can detach to wash yoru hair, and use it mounted to wall to wash your body.

A nice juicy ribeye with garlic rosemary rub, these cheesy twice baked potatoes topped with egg, a caesar salad with crunchy croutons, a glass of pinot noir or sparkling water, and your choice of ice cream pie YUM! I'll add a link when my amazon is done eating itself.

EDIT- Amazon is done hating me. At least for now. Yes, I broke my toilet

u/Cane_Skretteburg · 2 pointsr/Plumbing

these are old leaded flanges, my experience with cast iron and leaded flanges is rather limited due to my age and region. but the best way would be to replace the lead with newer cast iron if that's possible, or buy new flange plates that bolt to the existing floor.
this is a cast iron toilet flange that are much newer and the standard for cast iron applications :http://amzn.com/B001REGQXI
and this is more of a temporary flange you can use to repair what you have that will bolt to the floor: http://amzn.com/B000FHBGEC

It definitely does, yes. I did quite a bit of research before buying and was willing to spend around $100 or so but this specific model had the best overall reviews and added features for females as well, your gf will thank you I'm sure. (Side note, I initially ordered the blue but it looked, idk cheap somehow so I exchanged it for the white only and it looks much, much better, not cheap looking at all.)

A couple suggestions on other things that make a big difference imo for another $20 combined roughly, both recommended by other reviewers as well as a few specific YouTube installation videos (there is one that finally sold me on it, I'll see if I can find that too). A better/more solid and lasting brass, chrome finish T-adapter which also has a shut off and is compatible with this model (the 185 comes with a plastic one and only a few reported leaks and it doesn't have a shut off either and will eventually need to be replaced down the line). As well as toilet seat bumpers, taking into account the bidet only raises the seat a little but enough to not make it feel solid, the bumpers make it feel as it should, 100% solid with them.

The links for you to check out and maybe add to your wishlist (I personally highly suggest them):

Danco 10062 Toilet Seat Bumper... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00EA080X0?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Edit: This is the YouTube link where the guy uses the upgraded adapter as well as the bumpers and shows how to install easily too. (You'll see the 185 features that do make a big difference to me.)

Like this? I think it's kind of a neat idea because then you don't have to touch the toilet lid to put it up but it costs waaay too much for what it is.

It seems lik you could just harvest parts from a trash can but that would probably look really bad.

u/paradoxikal · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Behold, the most expensive toilet you can buy on amazon. for less than $5000, what a deal!

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/funny

you all need to look in to japanese seat covers.

if no one has one of these, i would suggest getting it ASAP.

see amazon link for what i mean.

great any time of year, makes such a difference.

you need more than one so that when 1 is washing, 1 replaces.

I don't believe you have any way of meeting code requirements for a bathroom of the size you proposed.

Even though local code can vary, here's the guidlines locally for me:

> A minimum space of at least 21 inches must be planned in front of lavatory, toilet, bidet, and tub.

I don't see how you will comply with this in a 36"x36" room. I would be surprised if your local or state code didn't have this type of minimum specified, and beyond that don't think you'd find much resale value in such a tiny room (especially, if unpermitted, since not only would it be hardly appealing, but would have to be brought into compliance to sell the home).

If you do try to go for it, there are Toilet/sink combos that are both super compact, and are water efficient, since most models use grey water from handwashing to flush the toilet.

EDIT-

Thought that I'd also add that a macerator toilet can make it a lot easier to add plumbing for a toilet and sink in areas that are otherwise a challenge to plumb (due to the large size typically needed for the mess stack servicing a toilet/bathroom) due to wall cavity constraints. I still wouldn't recommend having just a 3'x3' bathroom though.

u/ceapaire · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

12" is probably a bit tight for a toilet to fit. Try looking at tankless round bowl toilets for your best bet. This is the closest I found with a quick search, and it's at ~18" from the wall.

u/ten24 · 2 pointsr/DIY

Toto Drake. Get one. Low water consumption - awesome flushing power. I bought one earlier this year. Haven't been able to clog it once yet, even though I use tons of paper.

the way the toilet sits, (sitting on it), the right bolt goes in a one of the three slots around 3/4 of the circumference, but the left t-bolt has nowhere but the finger-like extrusion.

it seems to be exactly the following:

the short video on the last image shows my problems, but not how to fix them.

I have 2 of those, had them over a year now. Not once has there been a need to flush more than once, and I've never needed to use a plunger on them. I tend to use a lot of TP and this toilet handles it no problem. This thing has flushed stuff my previous Kohler would have clogged up on, and my Kohler was one of their best performing models.

Side note, I paid about $250 a piece for my Toto's, the price for the one I linked has went way up. I think there is a newer model out that is more affordable.

I, too, did the "too cool to take the time to care about toilet seats" thing and just bought one at Home Depot. Only, in my case, I bought one that had a built in mini-potty seat for kids.

Pretty easy to ignore and just not care about that aspect of it, except I bought it mere months after my wife and I got married and, as luck would have it, my Mom came to visit the day I installed it. There was no amount of denial that was acceptable, she was convinced my wife was pregnant and "nesting."

Working at a daycare I have helped potty train about 20 children in the last 4 years. Things will vary from child to child, but In hope I can help with the suggestions we give most parents.

Firstly, potty training can be super frustrating one of the things that can contribute to this is that many kids can't fully control when they go potty until they are about 2 1/2.

First they'll start noticing that they are wet, then they will begin to notice that they will pee, then they will finally have enough muscle control to know when they will pee and to control whether or not they do so.

Now, that doesn't mean you can't start early if you think they are ready, but it will require extra patience!

Secondly, I know this is weird but it is ideal for them see that their parents use the potty. If possible the same sexed parent since they have the same equipment. Talk them through the process as you go.

"I am going to use the potty because I need to go pee. I am going to pull down my pants and sit on the potty (or stand talk about whichever you're doing). I'm finished and now I'm going to flush the pee away. Look! I went pee and my pants are still dry and clean! It is so much nicer than having a wet diaper!"

Let him observe a few times, he may volunteere to sit on the potty to be like Mommy or Daddy or he may not, but now you've opened a dialogue and can have a conversation about it.

"I think it is time for you to sit on the potty just like I do! I know you don't like it when your diaper is wet and this way you can stay dry! Let's try to go pee in the potty!"

Also, instead of Mini potties I highly recommend these: Topseat 6TSTE9999CP 000 Tiny Haney Potty Toilet Seat, Adult/Child with Chromed Metal Hinges, Wood, Elongated, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EAR80ME/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_4zXnzbQASA39M

Good Luck! You guys can do this!

u/pseudodit · 1 pointr/autism

Did you use pull-up type diapers?

Also, potty might not be comfortable for him ... have you consider replacing your toilet seat with a combination 2-in-1 model and a solid step?

Sounds gross, but you you may need to show it to him by demonstration

u/Exatraz · 1 pointr/CHICubs

Seriously.. he doesn't know what he is missing. I mean just look at the lovely lady I spent my last weekend with. Still makes you drugging him all the more impressive if he wasn't inebriated. You must have made the ol Bob Saget special.

u/PatricksRedditAcount · 1 pointr/mildlyinteresting

Where is that?? I know toilets to look like this (hope that link works, got it off google images). The trigger thing on the front flushes the toilet, same sized flush every time!

u/Grammar-Hitler · 1 pointr/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

When I have to take that cold early-morning shit I run it over with the hair dryer for about a minute till it gets lukewarm. I'm saving up for one of these. Although that's kind of a luxury, I could also solve the cold-seat problem with this, 8x cheaper.
