Buy an XBOX 360 bundle with a game (I recommended the Halo 4/tomb raider bundle. Then instead of a game, buy a year of gold. You'll get 24 games for free over the next year as well as be able to buy games for cheap. For example, I just got "orange box" for $5.

Also, there's usually a pre-order promotion where you'll get $15-20 Amazon credit upon purchase.

For example, Gears of War 3 still has a $20 Amazon Video Games credit going on right now. $60 for Gears, it shows up on my doorstep on release day, and my next pre-order will be $40. Win.

I wouldn't be too sure they've hit their minimum price point if you're counting used 360s, particularly the old-style ones which I think will continue dropping for a while. On the used market, my theory is that consoles get their absolute cheapest around the time that the company announces the next, next gen replacement.

With that said, I wouldn't recommend buying an older-style 360, due to that generation's problems with RROD and that the disk drive's probably got a lot of wear and tear on it.

I'd recommend one of the newer "Slim" models, with at least 120 Gb of space, either brand new or used. It is very useful to be able to install games to your hard drive, saving wear and tear on the disc drive which is usually the first part to go bad in older systems. Having lots of space also allows you to download the monthly "free" (with Live subscription) or reduced price games when they go on sale. It also has built-in wifi, whereas you had to purchase an expensive adapter for the older model.

The newer 360's come in two variants, "Xbox 360 S" and "Xbox 360 E". I think the "E" model is slightly newer, but of these I think the "S" model is the best as it has options to hook up to the widest variety of TVs and sound systems. The "S" model supports composite, component, and HDMI out, whereas the "E" model only supports composite or HDMI.

EDIT: Apparently the "S" model supports VGA out (RGBHV), as well as built-in optical audio, of which the "E" model has neither. I also added some amazon links so the difference between SKU's is clearer. And don't bother getting a Kinect unless it's practically free or you really want to play "Just Dance".

u/[deleted] · 9 pointsr/xbox360

I would if I were you. I put off buying my first 360 for about five years. It's fun when I get to play it. With the deals they have right now I would jump. I think I saw a bundle in the deals subreddit for the 250hdd with fable 3 and halo reach for $300 plus three months of xbox live. It's nice if you have Netflix also. I use that all the time.
The larger hard disk drive is worth it. The dlc adds up quick. Also, if you had an old Xbox the hdd will not work with the new ones.

Happy travels.
Edit. It comes with a gift card

a brand new Xbox 360 is $179 delivered. I would think on it before I dropped $50 on a repair, depending on the model you have.

as for your questions:

>Will I need to flash the drive?

If you want to be able to play Xbox 360 games on disc, yes.

>DL10N only has one hit on Amazon and Newegg ($50). What other drive can I use without getting banned from Live?

if you flash a different model of drive, banning is always a risk.

>Will I be banned from Live if i play my games saved to my hard drive while I wait for the disc drive to come in?

Assuming these are games you legitimately purchased from the Xbox Marketplace, why would you be banned for playing them? As long as you have the optical drive plugged in, you should be fine.

>Anything else I should consider?

Get rid of the cat.

u/Sweet_Baby_Cheezus · 8 pointsr/xbox360

Well I know your budgets $200 but for $250 you can get a 250gb elite (no kinect) that comes with 2 AAA games. That would be my recommend rather than trying to save $50 and getting a used 120gb or something.

Here's one I found

u/zeug666 · 8 pointsr/gaming

It is only on the Star Wars edition Xbox 360, which makes the R2D2 noise when you push the power button and a different R2D2 noise when you push the eject.

u/formated4tv · 6 pointsr/xbox360

To answer your "cheapest way" question, you could get a refurb from Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Pro-20-GB-Refurbished/dp/B00309S9YW/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1288888897&sr=1-6

I tried to link that properly, but it didn't work for some reason.

Best "darker" games I can think of would be Bioshock (1 or 2) or The Darkness. Alan Wake is pretty cool, story wise, but the gameplay gets kind of repetitive. Prototype was also pretty enjoyable, the story is like human/mutant hybrid versus "infected" versus government.

u/Snow-Infernus · 6 pointsr/xbox360
u/itwzntme · 5 pointsr/xboxone

And MS usually has custom Xbox skins, like for Halo and Gears of War.

u/Tuxedohousecat · 5 pointsr/wiiu

Amazon doesn't carry Nintendo console stock anymore. The only way to get Nintendo consoles through Amazon are to buy them through other merchants. If you look here at the Wii U you can see it's sold by Scott's Stuff Inc, not directly by Amazon. This is different from say an Xbox, which is sold directly through Amazon. You are right on one thing, though. There are other Wii U sellers on Amazon. If one runs out of stock another probably has some.

u/thisisme5 · 5 pointsr/gaming

For the last time it is not the same price. I fucking dare you to build a Skyrim capable computer for $199.

u/Halaku · 5 pointsr/DestinyTheGame

I know, but I've got the console and I don't want to give that up for an Xbox.

If they had the same MCC bundle here that they did in Europe... but for Sunset Overdrive? Nah.

u/SuperDrunkNoShirtGuy · 4 pointsr/gaming

For 20$ more it is definiately worth the extra money, considering that you will then instead get a 2 year replacement warranty instead of only 30 days.

I checked online and a brand new Xbox 360 is currently 179$ on Amazon. Now I am not familar with how much you use Amazon but having been a customer for almost 3 years I have never complained about their service.

Yes you will need to pay monthly/quaterly/yearly in order to play online with friends.

PS3 on the other hand does not have a monthly cost. Obviously it then comes down to whether or not his friends have PS3 or Xbox.

You can get bundled deals on Amazon too with 2 games for 250 too:

Well the special edition MW3 Xbox is the slim version which has 250 gig hard drive.

Not sure if that is the one your bro has, but if he actually has the old xbox 360 the fact that it wont go above 160 gigs on a supposed 250 gig hard drive seems like some questionable hardware.

EDIT: Nvm, maybe he has the MW2 Special Edition.

Amazon
Bought one back in March for my birthday. It's pretty awesome.

u/jbigboote · 4 pointsr/xbox360

I'd buy a brand new 4GB Xbox 360 for $200 (or less). You can buy the hard drive later, and in the meantime, you can use USB drives for storage (up to 32GB per drive, and up to two concurrently).

As for price drops, yeah, one is coming, but will it happen after E3 in June? your guess is as good as mine.

u/rtrubinas · 3 pointsr/GameDeals

Gears of War 3 is $13 or $14 on Amazon pretty much all of the time, so you're not really saving anything by buying it from Best Buy. Unless, of course, you're getting those sweet, sweet Reward Points.

u/cecilkilmer · 3 pointsr/xboxone

That sounds more likely to be an Xbox 360 bundle... http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-500GB-Console-Horizon-Bundle/dp/B017KIHMQE

u/mrfurious2k · 3 pointsr/startrek

You need:

  • Any Gen xbox
  • Some local storage (enough for the netflix app)
  • Xbox live gold
  • headset

Considering the newest gen xbox is $200 for 4GB onboard storage and includes the headset, you might be best served doing that. However, you can also get a used one for fairly good pricing now. I've seen them go for as low as $80 w/ storage.

u/dr_taber · 3 pointsr/xbox360

This is an Xbox 360 and this is an Xbox One. The Xbox One is the newer console and what I would recommend.

The amazon link for the Xbox One shows two bundles: one with the Kinect device and a cheaper version without. If your budget affords, I would go ahead and spring for the one with the Kinect. It's a little bit of a better value.

u/Alpende · 3 pointsr/xbox360

You can place an official Microsoft Xbox 360 250GB hard drive in the console. Although, that is what I make up out of the first review on amazon. It would be silly if you couldn't place a bigger hard drive in the console.

u/AweBeyCon · 2 pointsr/xbox360

u/FrankieSucks · 2 pointsr/reactiongifs

Not trying to be a dick, honest question here. What kind of gaming PC can you get for under $300? The 250 GB Xbox 360 is $277. On Newegg, a Gateway with a pentium processor, 4 gigs of ram and no monitor is $329. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's not much of a "Gaming" PC.

u/Hamartithia_ · 2 pointsr/gaming
u/drzedwordhunter · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

This Xbox 360 from my video game list is the most expensive, because why not.

u/rickylago2 · 2 pointsr/xbox360

Update: Available on Amazon now.

u/ErrantVenturer · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Well, how often do you both play it? Do you have lots of games? If you do, you'll need lots of hard drive space and the 4GB Xbox 360 won't cut it.

I'd recommend the 250GB Xbox 360 for $299. Plus, you get two free games from it if you don't already have Fable 3 and Halo: Reach. It's also WiFi ready out of the box so you won't have to buy that accessory.

I hung out at Best Buy for 3 hours on Black Friday and picked the 250 GB Xbox 360 for $199. It was a good deal and mine had stopped reading discs earlier that day. I doubt you'll get one for that cheap this close to Christmas, so you're probably looking at spending around $300 for one.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I'd be happy to answer!

u/ZenLikeCalm · 2 pointsr/gaming

Which is better? The (redundant "shiny") Xbox 360 with no games, a 250Gb hard drive, and a $75 Amazon credit for $299.99....or the Gears of War 3 console with a copy Gears of War 3 (worth $59.99 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Gears-War-3-Xbox-360/dp/B002I0H79C/ref=pd_sim_vg_4), a second controller (worth $51.03 on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Gears-War-3-Controller-Xbox-360/dp/B0050SYTJK/ref=pd_sim_vg_5), and a 320Gb (not 250Gb) hard drive for $399? http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Gears-Limited-Console-Bundle/dp/B0050SYZCQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1314806569&sr=1-4

If you want to do this for the sake of doing a DIY project, go for it.

However, if all you want to do is fix your Xbox, there are cheaper ways of solving your problem.

For $30, you can get a RROD repair kit from iFixIt:

https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Game-Console/Xbox-360-Red-Ring-of-Death-Fix-Kit/IF205-024-1

For $175, you can just get a new 360 that will not have any overheating issues:

u/DaRabidMonkey · 2 pointsr/xbox360

Yup. Apparently Gamestop's Black Friday deals leaked, and they're going to be selling the 250 GB bundle with Halo 4 and Tomb Raider for $199.99, which will be $49.01 cheaper than Amazon is currently selling it.

First off, I think this is the most elaborate contest I've ever participated in, so congratulations for that :P Fear cuts deeper than swords. I hope some of my items are awesome enough for some extra credit ;) Also I wasn't sure if duplicates are allowed. I will revise if necessary.

1.) Something grey and it's been on my wishlist.

2.) Rain, well not technically rain, she is a water bender :P Previously on my wishlist.

3.) Unusual, I think this is something I would use like twice a year. With ice cream or cereal.

4.) Someone else My sister and I want to start playing tabletop games. Previously on my wishlist.

5.) "Book" I took a little bit of liberty with this one because it's a graphic novel. But it's Batman, so...(Previously on my wishlist).

6.) Under a dollar.

7.) Cats There's a catbus in it, which is pretty much the best part of the movie. Previously on my wishlist.

8.) Beautiful As a Star Wars fan having the original trilogy on Blu Ray would be beautiful to me. I love high definition movies, especially ones that are aesthetically pleasing. Previously on my wishlist.

9.) Movie As a Browncoat, I would encourage anyone who has a remote interest in Sci-Fi to give this a chance. Previously on my wishlist.

10.) Zombie tool I don't think this needs explanation.

11.) (Updated) Useful for future. I have a desire to create meaningful video games. Previously on wish list.

12.) Add on I actually had this on my wishlist but removed it because add-on items are lame.

13.) Most expensive As previously stated, I want to be a game developer/designer so not only would it be fun to play with, I could create with it too. Previously on list.

14.) Bigger than breadbox Total in the box it is bigger than a breadbox. Previously on wishlist.

15.) Bigger than a golf ball It's a large book. Previously on wishlist.

16.) Smells good As a guy...I enjoy the scent of lavender.

17.) Safe for children toy I don't think this needs any introduction of why it's awesome.

18.) Back to school drawing helps keep me sane. Previously on my list.

19.) Current obsession I'm a noob to tabletop games. But have been wanting to get into it obsessively within the past month or so. And this also takes my love of A Song of Ice and Fire into the mix. Previously on list.

20.) [Amazing] (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-XBR-65X900A-65-Inch-120Hz-Ultra/dp/B00BSREQI6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1376281533&sr=8-4&keywords=4k+tv) I've seen one of these in person at the mall and it literally made me stop walking the resolution was so incredible. I know it's as expensive as dicks...but man...when these are affordable...

Bonus 2) Made in Oregon I would have put Tillamook Ice Cream, since it's pretty awesome...but alas not on Amazon.

Edit: Changed an item because I saw it won't count because it's a duplicate.

u/NeoHumpty · 2 pointsr/truegaming

Since we are talking game systems, lets compare this to this. Or this to this. Oh. You want to discuss the cost of flash? What about just buying one of these? At least that comes out to be about $1 for every extra GB. Nintendo knows a thing or two about making cartridges, I don't see how they can justify the markup for what is basically a circuit board. I'm not hating on them, and like I said, I didn't realize that the cheaper one doesn't include NintendoLand. So, that was my fault. But the above example with the PS3 includes a game and 160GB more than the one that is only $50 less. I'm just not that impressed.

Amazon is awesome for selling things "right now" (assuming you have the lowest price), but they take a pretty hefty cut.

Craigslist is a nice way to avoid the hassle of shipping, but then you have the hassle of meeting up with someone. Craigslist-ers are generally very very cheap; you have to have thick skin to handle a bunch of low-ballers until you get someone serious.

eBay will pay you exactly what it is worth, but make sure you end your listing at a decent time and leave it up for at least a few days. Also, check "completed listings" of similar items to see how much they went for. You don't want to get at the end of your auction and realize what you expect isn't what the market is willing to deliver.

Contrary to other opinions on here, I wouldn't buy ANYTHING to try and make the system more "marketable" - that's like fixing up a car before you sell it - don't dump money into something you're trying to get rid of.

You're going to make more money on all this stuff if you have the patience to sell each thing (game or peripheral or hardware) individually.

On Amazon, it looks like used consoles that are in good condition (i.e. include a controller and cables) are going for $100:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00309S9YW/ref=sr_1_2_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1373916856&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+arcade&condition=used

List all your games and I'll price them out from Amazon, too.

QotD: Special edition Halo Xbox 360.

My local Gamestop held a Halo 3 2v2 tournament. The majority of tournament was Sunday afternoon, then they did the final four during midnight release. Finished it up before midnight, and were the first to get our system/game once 12 hit. My friend and I played a lot of Halo 2 and 3, so we figured it'd at least be fun to play, and maybe we could win. Then once we made it to final four it, we had our game faces on lol.

u/Ryanzler · 1 pointr/360hacks

Yeah, I think it is a slim model. Not exactly sure but it does look like this model - https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Slim-250GB-Console/dp/B005YR1VP2. I have the model number and stuff if you want to verify, if it helps.

u/DropKickingBear · 1 pointr/xbox360
u/KinoTheMystic · 1 pointr/xbox360

Here it is. This is the E model one, which is the latest. Comes with Tomb Raider and Halo 4 for free. This one is the S model and comes with Darksiders 2 and Batman Arkham City, but it's pricier.

u/IAmTheFatman666 · 1 pointr/xbox360

Good deal and all, but you're gonna need a new HDD for any game that's been released recently. That's at least another $40. (And that's for a 120 GB.) So, for the combined console and HDD, you're looking at $220. For that plus about $10, you can get a Holiday Bundle, complete with 2 games.

Now, if you want an Xbox for Netflix and the occasional round of Call of Duty, this is perfect. If not, look elsewhere.

EDIT: Fixed the link.

I guess, but it isn't a cheap console. Look here on the US Amazon it is $299 which isn't cheap... that is a pretty standard price for the 360.

I understand it offers value for those who cannot get their hands on the new console, however offering a 360 which is $100 cheaper than the competitors new console is a bad move. Especially if people do research.

>The reason people buy more consoles is because PCs are too hard for most people and people like you spread misinformation.

I'm just going to step in here and say that you're blatantly wrong. The thing that you're completely overlooking is that not everyone has the money to spend on a computer worthy of games such as Battlefield 3. Most people (especially those in the typical age group of gamers) aren't very wealthy and have many other things that they need to spend money on. New hardware is damn expensive compared to alternatives. You could spend $855 on a single graphics card, or you could spend $300 for an Xbox 360 with 250GB of memory. For most people's budgets, the Xbox 360 is the obvious choice.

Acutally, BestBuy.ca is now taking preorders for Gears 3 -- I placed one the other day. Free shipping too. I'm actually planning on returning the unopened copy back to the store once I've redeemed the code (that presumably they email to me).

Walmart Canada is taking preorders as well, just not on the website. You have to do it in person. When I contacted them, they didn't say anything about pre-order bonuses, but I'm assuming it will be the Savage Grenadier Elite... at least, I hope so, he looks so bad ass.

Lastly, Amazon.ca does not accept pre-orders; but Amazon.com does, and they ship to Canada. I placed an order with them as well, and they charged me 8 bucks shipping and another 8 for some export/import fee. Whatever...

And of course, EB Games/Gamestop has always allowed pre-orders. They're the only ones with their their act together from the get go.

EDIT: Regarding Amazon.ca (offering pre-orders now):

Not sure what you had, but this is the new model. They're $179 on Amazon but you may catch them cheaper on sale somewhere. I bought one of these for $99 last Black Friday but that price may be hard to find now. One thing to consider is that these newer consoles don't have much storage but they do have an empty hard drive bay so you can upgrade them easily, but of course that'll raise your total price invested if you need it.

u/FoolsRun · 1 pointr/gaming

If cost isn't the issue, I'd get a new one. You never know what's been done to a second-hand 360.

Do you think you'll play a lot of downloadable games? If so, I'd say spring for the 250GB model (or the Kinect bundle if that's your thing).

If you don't think you'll be buying/playing a lot of downloadable games, I'd do as other posters have recommended and use USB drives for the additional up-to-16GB-at-a-time (here's some info on that). Even then, if you find yourself wanting a bigger hard drive in the future, buy a bigger drive at that point.

Good luck! There are a ton of great downloadable games on XBLA these days: Monday Night Combat, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, Beyond Good & Evil HD, Torchlight, BRAID, Shadow Complex... the list goes on, and that doesn't even include upcoming stuff like Bastion, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, Outland, Fez, etc.

I find myself playing almost exclusively XBLA games, partly because of the time I have to dedicate to gaming, and partly because of the variety and innovation being pushed in the downloadable space.

/u/mygrantgamer is correct that Wlamart Xbox has not internal hard drive only a 4GB Flash Memory Card. He is also correct that any xbox certified internal hard drive will work.

I would order the 500GB Model E off Amazon (like this one) and not have to worry about the hard drive. (PS some newer games like Destiny will not play without a hard drive, regardless of how much other storage you have).

u/FormerGameDev · 1 pointr/Flipping

hmm. I guess the key is waiting until the page is completely loaded .. either that or whatever it was that was causing it to not work was temporary, or related to whatever specific item i was trying to look at earlier.

Just picking at random items again, I hit on https://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Slim-250GB-Console/dp/B005YR1VP2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1486442360&sr=8-3&keywords=xbox+360 .. which when I click the button doesn't actually come up with the item on the page, only other items.

I will try to keep this post as non biased as I can. Sorry if it appears to be unorganized. Wall of text warning

I agree with what most said in this post that you should find the games you like the most and buy the system that supports them. Xbox One is not backwards compatible with 360 games.

I have both systems and I enjoy them quite a bit. I recently bought my One before Christmas, when it was $350 + tax. I got my console without the Kinect as it was cheaper. It even came with download codes for Assassin's Creed Unity and Black Flag, and a 500 GB hard drive. The same setup is running for $387 on Amazon.

If you are a big Call of Duty player, this setup on Amazon may interest you. It comes with the Xbox 360 E console, 500 GB hard drive, download codes for COD Ghosts and BO2, and a free month of Xbox live gold. It is running for $237.

With both systems, if you have a relatively up to date tablet or phone running iOs, Android, or Windows, you can download SmartGlass. There are two SmartGlass apps specific to the console you buy. SmartGlass allows you to perform some Xbox controls through the phone or tablet, and you can use it to send messages to your XBL friends when you are away from your console, provided you have a data connection. SmartGlass also makes typing messages while playing games so much easier.

With Xbox One, you have the ability to snap. Snap allows the ability to do two things at once. The game will be on the left and take up about 85% of the screen. The right side can be a different function, such as messages, achievements, and even using Internet explorer (I will add that unless you have a larger screen TV, Snap may not be the best). I use my snap so I can listen to Pandora while playing games. The best illustration of Snap would be this commercial featuring Aaron Paul (though you would need the Kinect for what he does.) Snap also runs through SmartGlass.

Whichever console you get, it is best to have an Internet connection, though this may not be an issue. Xbox 360 is very offline friendly, while Xbox One is not very offline friendly.

Gold membership is almost an essential. You don't need it necessarily if all you do is Netflix and other streaming sites, but you do need it to play online multiplayer. With Gold membership though, you do get 2 free games each month for either console. You also get special discounts on certain games. You don't need to pay full price for gold membership as membership codes can be found at various online outlets for much cheaper.

Xbox One does have home gold. With home gold, one gold member can provide gold benefits to other players on the console. I have a friend with a silver membership, which means he can not play online multiplayer on the Xbox 360. I allowed him to save his profile to my console. Since I have my profile on there as well, he is allowed online despite only being a silver member. Basically to simplify it, One gold member can allow several silver members to play online, as long as all profiles are saved to the same Xbox One console. Xbox 360 does not provide home gold. More info here.

Xbox 360 is going to continue to be supported for the next several years. I believe I read that Xbox 360 will continue to receive updates from Microsoft for the next 5 years. However, like the original Xbox, there will come a date when Live access is removed permanently for Xbox 360 consoles. As of April 2010, Xbox original consoles can no longer access Xbox live. Most likely, the Xbox 360 will receive the same fate in the future. Trust me though, Microsoft will announce this several times, so you will get a good amount of warning.

Right now, the best advice I can give is to find the games you enjoy the most and buy the console that will support them best.

Bonus note: If you have ever played Grand Theft Auto V on the Xbox 360 or PS3, Rockstar completely remastered it for the Xbox One. They added first person view, some new cars, better traffic spawning, and new songs to the radio stations. All of those features add so much to the experience. First person driving is awesome, as the cars have some working gauges, and the new songs on the radio helps to prevent the same songs from cycling over and over again.

Haha, I just bought a new Xbox Slim (trying to update my old Xbox 360). I decided to buy the racing bundle that just came out. It is only $299 and I got it with next-day shipping. Before that I tried to buy it off of Buy.com (merchant seller was TigerDirect) and that didn't go very well. I don't really play many racing games but I figured it was a waste of money to get the holiday bundle since I already have Halo Reach and can just buy Fable 3 by itself.

EDIT: Also, my boss kept telling me to wait until the next Xbox, but I really don't want to wait a year for it.

u/VampHuntD · 1 pointr/gameswap

It's the older model. The one with the dead usbs may be a slim, but I'm not sure. It looks about the same. I wouldn't mind having the extra one. I'd prefer the 15gb USB though. Price sounds fine! If you can give me a day or two, I'm gonna try to offload this second, somewhat working 360. Is this your model?

Pick one and use that instead of a pc, just kidding, but seriously listen servers are awful for any kind of pvp game especially fps games, I have no problem with matchmaking on dedis like csgo, but fuck me if I have to play cod again on listen servers. (Oh and I know you said dedis+ matchmaking, but separating an already small userbase is never a good idea)

I'm curious though, why do you want matchmaking? It can't be the party system because that works on dedis as well, it can't be that it's easier because it's not, you can easily find a server with whatever gamemode you want if you don't care about the connection which you obviously don't since you want to play on listen servers. Afraid of getting kicked by admins? True, that is a problem, but that can easily get fixed by actually using the favorites feature that every good server browser have.

>Overall, I think $300 is a very fair price for a new system, especially considering that's how much you have to pay to get a decent 360.

No.

Yes, it has laughably little storage. So does the $300 WiiU. The xbox360 uses a laptop-size harddrive in an enclosure, and can be swapped out for a larger one with a little effort. The WiiU appears to be locked down.

It's also worth noting that you can easily get a "decent" xbox360 secondhand.

If the quantity and quality of releases is anything like it was on the Wii, $300 is very steep for something which most people will use sparingly for two years.

To be honest, however much you want to give me for it. I need to get rid of it before I go off to school. The console is going for ~$200 shipped on it's own so I'll just say $200 plus shipping and that includes all the games I have left (everything except Skyrim). Sound good to you?

u/rasputine · -2 pointsr/skyrim

This is utterly, completely false. There is no conceivable way you can justify this statement, except to claim that they bought a 72 inch TV for the xbox, and a 17 inch monitor for the PC. Since there are hundreds of monitors/TVs that would work easily with either an xbox or PC, it is irrelevant what they cost, assume the same one is used.

Now, if you can find me a desktop computer including a keyboard and mouse, that costs the same as an xbox 360 and will run Skyrim as well or better than the 360, then I will eat my fucking hat.

[edit] changed it to an xbox available new.

u/Antith3sis · -3 pointsr/GameDeals

Sorry, but I fail to see how this PC is in any way reliable. And I fail to believe that this PC can run Witcher 2 at all, let alone at 720p 30fps that the Xbox can run it at. You may be able to get the same specifications as the 360 for cheap, but the same specifications PC is worse than the console. Console games are optimised for that particular console, the specs are the same, so they can cut corners to make it run as fast as possible.

Also, you'll need Windows, which is another high priced item if you don't want to get into illegal territory, or run it on Linux which has some major performance problems reportedly.

The $130 in the PCMR post talks about it being suitable for a "young kid, Solitaire enthusiast, or someone who just needs a simple home server", which doesn't really sound like it's suitable for a demanding AAA title from 2011. The $265 Media Elite is better than the 360, but is more expensive than it (250GB 360 for $219 here), and does not contain peripherals (keyboards/mice, not required for the 360 as it's included) or an OS.

I'm all for the PS3 bundle of GTAV (not that it interests me as I already own both consoles) but do some homework.

Xbox 360, 250GB HDD, 1 month live, Batman Arkham City and Darksiders II.

In the UK you can get the above pack plus Forza 4 plus GTAV for £200 whereas the PS3 500GB is £250 for the PS3 plus GTAV.

Maybe because Amazon sells a 250gb Xbox for over $160 less and doesn't come with the waste of a Kinect and awful Star Wars game.

I'm not poor by any means but that thing just screams, "I have more money than sense." I guess if the shiny controller and R2D2 beeps are really that important to you though then more power to ya.
