> Also, because stupid people do stupid shit with dangerous stuff, we need to ban it. Because fuck everyone else who uses it properly.
You know what else can blow up a house? Natural gas. And fertilizer (same shit as Tannerite, really). And gasoline fumes. And probably millions of other household chemicals.
Hey, let's ban gasoline because some dumbass tried to use it to light a bonfire and blew himself up. Or hey, lets ban bleach because someone could use it in their toilet and piss in it, making mustard gas!

I'm with you.

So tannerite is basically just a mixture of ammonium nitrate (scary chemical name!), and aluminum powder. Both of these have very legitimate uses that would make regulation nearly impossible. Aluminum powder is useful for model rockets and fireworks, and ammonium nitrate has uses outside of fertilizers. For example, whenever may lab does outreach to schools, we buy it in large quantities in let kids make cold-packs with it since it absorbs a great deal of energy when dissolving. If you've ever held one of those instant cold-packs with a little pocket of water that you pop to activate, you've probably held nearly a quarter-pound of ammonium nitrate in your hands.

Incidentally, I decided to look up a link to purchase those, and I think y'all would enjoy the first review.

http://www.amazon.com/Dynarex-Instant-Cold-Inches-24-Count/dp/B004CQ5NUK

>For those of you purchasing this with Aluminum Powder - 5 micron - 2 Pounds you may find it interesting to know that there is about 6.5 lbs of the active ingredient in this 24 pack, or about $2.70 / lb, a pretty good deal considering others are asking around $5/lb in bulk.

In a nutshell, people being stupid shouldn't affect the supply of useful materials.

I prefer an old school ice bag. This is the one I have.. It never leaks, can be used with warm water as a hot pack, and best of all, I don't have to plan in advance because I always have ice in my freezer anyway.

It's not a "scam" per se. The FDA has approved coolsculpting and the process behind how it works is an actual thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryolipolysis

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4444424/

However the marketing and results are hugely overstated bordering if not entirely lying with classic fitness industry techniques (managing water weight for pictures etc). And there are plenty of currently available ice pack solutions that do the same thing that aren't marketed and upsold specifically for this purpose that will work just as well. Ex. https://www.amazon.com/LotFancy-Therapy-Reusable-Microwavable-Freezable/dp/B013FWXKA6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492703161&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=belly+ice+pack&psc=1

However a session of cool sculpting or DIY or whatever for your average husky will probably throw off way less than a pound of fat over a 2 month period. The 10 to 25% reduction (on regimen) is only seen in morbidly obese patients and they literally lose weight by skipping lunch.

For certain areas Cryolipolysis is actually good, for example like face fat which is generically not prioritized for liquidation.

Also just an FYI if any solution worked as well as it's marketing said it did you'd have a huge mortality rate for doing it.

Just taking 1 liter of fat (2.2 pounds) in one session for liposuction in a 110lb person can raise their risk of death to a significant degree (single digit percentages seriously), no actual surgeon should even agree to this volume. Currently the general mortality rate is %0.0002 used to be %0.0016 in the 70's.

Here's the info I've compiled over the years to deal with my stuffed up nose and sinuses:

If you have an infection (sinus or otherwise!) reduce dietary intake of sugars and simple starches (crackers, rice, potatoes, pasta, bread, cereal, etc). BACTERIA EAT SUGAR. Plus, starches dramatically depress the immune system for hours.

Avoid trans (bad) fats at all costs.

make it a high priority to eat abundant "good fats". Obtain some grass fed butter (and meat for that matter) for cooking if you can. Improves immunity immensely.

EAT MUSHROOMS for immune enhancement!

Brush your teeth WELL and frequently. Important to be aware that bacteria can travel from one cavity to another in your head. Dental, ear, and sinus ills may all be related! Mouth, throat, nasal passages, sinuses, and ears are all connected and can share germs.

Thorough oral rinse at rising, at bedtime, and after meals: 1/2 t salt to 8 oz warm water. Rinse, gargle, spit out until the cup is empty. Tip your head and work to get into all the "nooks and crannies".

Eco-Dent mouthwash is good as well. Pluse Dentek Easy Brush Interdental Cleaners and a [waterpik](http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_8?url=search-alias%3Dhpc&field-keywords=waterpik%20water%20flosser&sprefix=waterpik%2Chpc%2C240] .

Get more sleep.

Antibacterial herbs: thyme, myrrh, mints, basil, cloves

Steam:
Boil a pot of water on the stove and add aromatic oils (those listed above, and/or tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, etc). Take the pot off the burner, throw a towel over your head and the pot and inhale the steam. Alternatively you can use a facial steamer . It has a contoured bowl that you put your face into, a heating element and a cup at the bottom of the bowl that boils a small amount of water to which you can add aromatic oils. Much less muss and fuss than the pot-and-towel method, and less risk of burning yourself. Costs about $20.

A wonderful oil blend for steaming is First Response by Aura Cacia. Contains tea tree, eucalyptus, lemon, sweet orange, lavendar, and sandalwood oils.

double to triple fluid intake: The "health nut" guideline for fluid intake is 1/2 ounce per pound of body weight per day. Good to drink this much every day, not just when you're sick.

Hot garlicky soup.

hot packs on face/sinuses (across bridge of nose) /head and on ear/s. This one is awesome:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00012QEFM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's called the MediBeads Moist Heat Therapy Sinus Wrap

Garlic supplements to guard against your congestion turning into an infection. Garlic oil in the steamer, also.

Beyond all this, I take Zyrtec, Benedryl, Mucinex (sometimes) and a prescription called Singulair which works in a different way than antihistamines and decongestants to clear your nasal passages and sinuses. I also take a high quality omega 3 oil supplement to combat inflammation which is a major contributor to blocked sinuses/nasal passages. Tell your doctor the standard OTC go-to's aren't helping. Ask him whether Singulair might help you, and ask about an allergy workup.

Do people not realize that anyone can make this stuff? It's just ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder.

You can get the ammonium nitrate from instant cold packs and aluminum powder is readily available on Amazon if you're too lazy to make it yourself.

K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Stupid. Words to live by!

Gloves. Just your standard Nitrile gloves. I have a box in my closet with about 5 pair in my truck. Although with Texas summers here, I'd bet they've melted together by now. I should really check on that...

Safety Glasses Any brand will do. Just look for ANSI Z87.1. You'll probably never use them, or 90% of what's in your bag, but they're nice to have on hand.

Knife w/seat belt cutter & window punch. This is mine. I keep it on my trucks visor when I'm driving, and on me when I'm not. Cheap and useful. A little big though.

Simple Breathing mask. Always good to have around.

Gauze Rolls & Gauze Pads. I've used these a couple times, all on myself. I have the uncanny ability to fall when running outdoors. It's truly a gift.

Large SAM Splint. Surprisingly I've used two in only a year of building my kit. Once for myself, colles fracture from tripping, and the second time for a friend who slipped in my kitchen. We're not the most coordinated bunch.

And if you're feeling adventuress (sp?), Emergency Blanket, Cold Pack, & a Hot Pack. These aren't necessary, but nice to have if you have some extra $$$ to burn.

This is all i carry in my truck medical wise. It's also a good idea to have a flashlight on your vehicle or in the bag. Don't waste money on anything "fancy". You'll never use them and if you do you'll probably get sued.

I received a pre-stocked jump bag from a family member as a gift for getting my EMT cert. Came with OPA's, C-Collar, Adult/Pedi BVM, & a couple suture kits. These are no-no's. Good Samaritan laws won't protect you if you use these. DON'T BUY/USE THEM WHEN NOT ON A RIG! (The suture kits are another matter...just don't) I took these out of my bag completely.

TL;DR K.I.S.S. Avoid anything a non-EMS person couldn't use.

EDIT: Formatting

That does look like a really good product. For my money though, this cold headband is less than 1/5 the cost and it's met my needs well. I keep 2 at home, 1 at work and 1 at my girlfriends house.

Covering the eyes is probably great sometimes, but I can put this on at the first hint of migraine and wear it no matter what else I'm doing. I'll usually start wearing one of these long before I resort to dark room rest

Great question! I will definitely be following to get other ideas!

We live in SoCal now but plan to get married in the Capital Region of NY, so we are planning to incorporate things from both areas.

Right now we have the following planned (but this may change):

  • Saratoga Chips (supposed birth place of potato chips)
  • Saratoga Water Bottles (well known for water as well)
  • Wilson Creek Winery Mini Almond Champagne Bottles (FH and I went horseback riding at this winery our first year living out here in SoCal)
  • Cookies from my favorite local bakery
  • Mini packs of Tylenol and Advil (from Amazon)
  • Pedialyte Powder Packets (seriously the best hangover cure)
  • Shout Wipes
  • Lip Balm
  • An itinerary/guidebook/etc of some kind with wedding schedule, local attractions, public transit options, and a list of phone numbers for cabs, emergency contact person, etc.

ETA: I can't get the bullets to work right now. Also trying to decide what to put all of this in right now.

Eagle medical oil, while not made in Germany, is widely used and always well received.

I guess the dude who wrote not to bring an ipad/iphone does not know those are not German. But it is pretty cool for Angela Merkel and her crew, that the PR people for Germany convinced him that they were. That said, he was right about not bringing too much.

Once you are engaged/married, fully expect to be asked to buy a new roof or something else very significant for the family if you are not asked for a dowry of some sort.

My family here freaks out about Adidas and other nice shoes that are not fakes, brought (in the box is a must) from outside the country, although the fascist undertones of bringing Puma sneakers can be difficult to explain.

Hope that helps

I've talked about my Plantar Faciitis before and have a couple of suggestions! I am 25 and have been dealing with this stuff for about 8 years now.

First off, start by wearing these Plantar Faciitis socks and massaging your heel/arch every night with this cream. It helps so much! The cream helps with inflammation and is a great way to get it down deep into your muscles. The socks feel VERY tight, but don't freak out, that's okay! They help! I wear them under my "real" socks when I wear shoes/jeans that will cover them so they don't show. My mom also has Plantar Faciitis and she has more of a "IDGAF" attitude and wears them ALWAYS, but I'm not on her level.

Shoe wise, check out some of the more "comfort" brands like Merrell, The Walking Company, Clarks, Cole Haan, LifeStride, Aerosoles, Dr. Scholls, Easy Spirit, and Earth Origins. Many of the shoes will seem ugly, but you will find a good shoe every now and then! I would also suggest going to a place like DSW and trying on all the different brands to find which ones fit you the best. My mom loves Clarks, but the arches on them are in a weird place for my feet. Bring your inserts with you wherever you go to try on shoes!! See if they fit in the shoes and sometimes you may have to get a shoe that is a half size or full size bigger because of them.

I used to wear heels to work every day and now I've changed my style a little because of my plantar faciitis. I now always wear inserts inside oxfords, desert boots, really any types of boots, or loafers. The only type of heel I will touch is if it's a wedge or a "chunky" heel (which is coming into style and thankfully easier to find nowadays!).

I personally use these and love them because they have different thicknesses for different types of shoes you may have. While they are more expensive than insoles you might pick up at Walmart, they are awesome! My doctor actually recommended them to me because I couldn't afford custom ones.

Once you get into a routine and get into the right shoes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel...I promise! I've been able to manage my pain and it's hardly a problem anymore. Good luck!!

Hey, not sure if this will be helpful but I've suffered from Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis the past 17 years and I've found this arthritis joint pain to be really awesome in addition to traditional aspirin.

https://www.amazon.com/Penetrex-Pain-Relief-Therapy-Breakthrough/dp/B0026HDURA/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1501869833&sr=8-4&keywords=arthritis+cream

In addition, I've found it helpful to look for stretches on youtube for the muscles surrounding my problem areas. A lot of pain is due to muscles tensing up around injured regions, so stretches + foam rollers can help too.

If you are interested in running in the future, definitely get custom insoles from places like Roadrunner Sports. They have a bunch of tests/machines to make sure you're not putting pressure on injuries etc.

Hmm, fascinating. I haven't tried heat yet, as I normally despise being warm and feel like, in general, being warmer makes me feel more headache-y and queasy, but maybe a specific rice pack would help, I'm going to try it! Otherwise, I've done ice on my forehead or back of the neck, and that seems to help. Even asked for one of THESE goofy-looking things for Christmas!

u/fastlerner · 2 pointsr/crossfit

Sounds like you need some SMR (self myofascial release). Get a beastie ball (or lacrosse ball if you don't have access) and work it into the bottom of your calf muscle and the bottom of your foot. To get the calf, sit on the floor with your butt all the way back against the wall and place the ball under your calf. Work around until you find the painful knot then lean forward and keep pressure on it. For the bottom of the foot, take off your shoe and stand on it while holding onto the rack. Work it around your sole. Working both of these areas should give you some relief. (You can also stand on a rumble roller with no shoes to work your soles, just hold onto the rack!)

The other thing I would recommend is Penetrex. This stuff is really effective at relieving plantar and tendinitis issues.

I'm not familiar with the Fingertraps, but it might be worth checking out some different shoes if the above doesn't help resolve it. Good luck!

EDIT: Don't be afraid to rest! You'll probably want to avoid runs until it's felt better for a couple weeks else you risk aggravating it again. Swap rows for runs until it's had time to heal.

I lived on Excedrin Migraine before getting pregnant. When I'm getting a migraine now (I get the typical "aura" so I know it's coming) I take two Tylenol and drink some soda. Then I sit with an ice pack head and on for about 30 mins. This has worked each time and stopped me from progressing into full blown migraine. This is the ice pack I use It was the first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant. It looks silly but has been a life saver.

I accidentally laid down on one of those little fuckers when I was taking the work bumper off my old truck. Right on the back of my shoulder. Hurt like hell.

Protip: if you ever get stung by one, use an external analgesic on it. When I got stung, I tried this stuff and it worked like a champ. The pain and swelling were gone in about a minute. I keep it around for swabbing my throat when I start to get sick, but decided to try it on the sting. Everything went better than expected.

I bought this, you just roll the ointment over the affected tendon. It will heat up (pretty damn hot if you put enough) but you won't feel that tightness and stress nearly as much. It's so nice, man. Absolutely massive difference for me.

u/IksarNecro · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

Hey man, late to the thread but I wanted to share with you what I did when I started having pain in the same hand.

This cream is magic. Use it as directed, especially put on a good amount before bed.

Another thing I did was stop mashing. I was hitting my next ability like 10 times during the gcd when it wasn't really needed. I now time my abilities and the strain is gone.

Also, buy a mechanical keyboard if it fits your budget. If you're using a membrane one where you have to depress the buttons pretty hard, that's added strain that's easily eliminated by a more sensitive mechanical board.

Good luck man.

Ice is the best!

You should look into strap-on headbands that you can put ice packs in, or something like this. Having a thing to hold it onto your head, leaving you with both hands free and full mobility, is such a game changer.

I also had heat intolerance as a very early symptom. I loved summer as a kid, and 5 years ago, I thought I was dying. It felt like I was carrying weights on my arms and legs. I thought I was having a stroke, because I wasn't making any sense when I was speaking.
Now that I know this about myself, I am super careful on the subway, and being outside in general. I use these headbands, and honestly, they are awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone who has heat intolerance.

u/waterboysh · 1 pointr/keto

Get one of these (or 2 so you can swap them out and always have 1 cold). For many, cold can provide some extra relief and these are awesome because you don't have to hold it and it's gel, so it's flexible and doesn't get as cold.

I'm 30 and I have had migraines since I was in middle school, so I've had some time to learn my triggers. Heat, bright light, and physical exertion are my biggest ones (I live in Florida... the cruel irony). I do have some food triggers though and I learned by going on keto that carbs/sugar is one of them. I've been on keto 2 years now and it has definitely helped. I have been using Migraine Buddy to track my migraines since March, and according to it I have had 19 migraines. That comes out to one every 1.7 (8 x 4 / 19) weeks on average. I wasn't tracking before keto, but it definitely felt like it was more often than that.

Cause pain sucks, idk if you have any chronic pain or not, but I hear this stuff works wonders!

u/ClockworkFate · 1 pointr/migraine

Since everyone else seems to have covered the medical aspects of migraine help, might I suggest getting her something like this? You'll want to make sure it's able to be used for warm and cold water, though, since a good portion of the ones on Amazon and elsewhere are only for cold water. The one I have is honestly the best investment I ever made for my migraines. It's lightweight (which was a major problem with hot water bottles; the warmth helped, but the /weight/ of them on my face was painful), it conforms to wherever it's held against (so, like, it'll smoosh against everywhere on her face if her migraines are like mine and hit in the glasses/mask region), and it's flexible for whatever helps alleviate the pain (so if cold helps, she can fill it with ice, but the warmth aspect helps mine the best). If you or she does get one, though, you'll want to make sure that you don't use too hot of water in it, because 1) it's painful against the skin (since it's just a thin rubber-like bag), and 2) it can actually make the bag leak/burst, which would be even more painful. Hot tap water works just fine, with the added bonus of her not needing to stand around waiting for water to heat in the microwave/on the stove/in the kettle, y'know?

u/delibertine · 1 pointr/CasualConversation

If you can find something like this electric pad that'll definitely help. If that's out of your price range they sell much cheaper little versions at places like CVS, Wallgreens and probably Target that'll still help heaps. No more than 15-20 minutes at a time.

See if you can also get a massage. The sports/deep tissue kind.

EDIT: Oh, and rest.

u/LivingWithWhales · 1 pointr/climbing

Also, I will wear around the Bear Komplex lite knee sleeves for a few hours after a squat workout or something similar. Helps keep them warm and from stiffening up too bad...

I had pain in my wrists when I started out. It's gone now but this is what I did to fix it:

  • took two weeks off playing
  • slept with wrist braces to keep my wrists in a neutral position all night. This maximizes circulation and promotes healing. I still sleep with these.
  • stretch for 5 mins before every practice session
  • applied Penetrex anti-inflammatory cream after a long practice session.
  • practiced in front of a mirror to make sure my posture was good and there were no awkward angles in my wrists
  • switched to classical position and got a nice adjustable foot stool.

That pretty much cleared it up, but I didn't have any serious pain or anything. Just the early onset of something nasty. Definitely take care of it now before it gets bad.

Yeah I'm sorta there with you. I won't be rolling for a while but I plan to go to open mat this week to see what I can and can't do. Sleeping and oddly driving have been rough. I invested in some nighttime ibuprofen and it's helped wonders. I did buy this stuff on amazon to help with the healing https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012A5Z89K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It's comparable to icy hot.

Another elxcellent pain relief therapy is a warm parafin bath, much like many nail salon/spas offer. I had a recent injury to my left hand (fell on it on ice and got a bad contusion), and this is a very pleasant form of relief

I suspect that the size of the cello is not so important as the issues you have with function, and it is for this reason that I ask you to be more specific as to what functional issues you are having with playing the cello. Is it the left hand, the right hand, and what exactly you experience that you wish to address?

I have BriteLeafs Far Infrared https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0124B0RUU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and it's alright. Doesn't get super hot but helps. I've used it in movie theaters and on road trips, and getting a second battery is nice
