The Adventure Time comics by KaBOOM Studios. They're written by the same guy that does Dinosaur Comics. This is the first volume, which has the first story arch in it which I believe is the first four issues You can buy the individual ones too of course. There are 31 issues thus far.

I've said in this sub before that they're amazing many times, but I won't stop heh.

For the Fiona and Cake fans, of which there certainly are many, there's a spinoff written by Natasha Allegri

There's also a spinoff with Marceline, her band and Princess Bubblegum.

From Marvel, I highly recommend the current Elektra series by Haden Blackman and Mike del Mundo. The writing's sharp, and the art's phenomenal. Black Widow by Nathan Edmonson and Phil Noto is also doing a really good job telling some cool spy stories without over-sexualizing their main character like she has been in the past. Oh, and make sure to check out the new Storm solo series by Greg Pak and Victor Ibanez that's debuting next week, I have high hopes for it!

If you like KSD's work on Captain Marvel, you should definitely pick up the trades of her run on the series Avengers Assemble, Science Bros and The Forgeries of Jealousy. I also recommend the short-lived Journey into Mystery featuring Sif by Kathryn Immonen and Valerio Schiti and Red She-Hulk by Jeff Parker and Carlo Pagulayan.

If you like Bee and Puppycat, I think there's a very good chance you'll also like Marceline and the Scream Queens, the Adventure Time spin-off series by Meredith Gran.

You could try Marvel Action: Spider-Man published by IDW. It features Miles with Peter and Gwen as teenagers. I haven’t read much of them, but it seems as good a place as any to start. Only problem is that he might prefer Peter of Gwen to Miles.

In addition to the other commentors

Kiki's Delivery Service book 1 out of 6, the others were never localized.

Castle in the Sky is based on Gulliver's Travels

The Cat Returns, a manga.

Ponyo is based on The Little Mermaid. Many iterations of this story but why not read a collection of Hans Christian Andersen stories.

The Wind Rises with Jiro's biography and Paul Valéry's poems.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

Ronia the Robber's Daughter if you've seen the co-produced Ghibli TV show.

My 4 year old loves Marvel Action Spiderman. It's really for kids a drop older but I think it's fine with Dad.

Also we LOVE Marvel Superhero Adventures.

Well the most obvious recommendation would be the plethora of OTGW stuff that's been released since.

If you haven't checked it out yet the original short is available online, right here on youtube.

The first comic collection has stories from in between episodes, and I believe is cannon.

Since then, there has been an ongoing comic series. These contain stories from after the show, the longest thread being Greg and Wirt's adventures in their dreams. However there are also stories about Anna (the Woodsman's daughter), Mrs. Langtree, and others. The first few collections are available on amazon.

Lastly, a concept art book is about to be released, if you are interested in that sort of stuff.

Hope some of this helped!

I own all of these and really love all of them

soundtrack on vinyl -a beautiful mastering to just sit and chill to

The "For Sara" Cassette Tape -complete with clarinet and Elisha Wood poetry

The Art book -a really cool and in depth look into what went in to making the series

The comic series -been a while since I read through it, but I remember it being pretty good and gives more character to some of the side characters in the show.

There are also plenty of other things out there like keychains, stickers and plushes, but I'm not much into collecting that stuff.

All of these style comics come from Magical Game Time.

He also did the art for the Costume Quest comics that came out as a tie in to the Double Fine games

And he is the current artist on Marvel's [Great Lakes Avengers comics] (http://marvel.com/comics/issue/61497/great_lakes_avengers_2016_1) Edit: He's actually the writer for GLA, not artist

Mark Waid followed Morrison and it was a grand ol' time. Joe Kelly followed Waid and it was pretty damn good.

If you liked the Divine Comedy, you'll like Mickey goes to Hell.

I go through my WL a lot and wonder why 70% of the things on there are there yet I can't delete them for some reason. My new thing is this. He's just too cute and looking at his little face makes me so happy. :P

I'm also excited for this graphic novel I've beenn waiting far too long for this.

8 Y/O/G I would go with Amulet. It's on book 4 right now and the protagonist is a girl with great magical powers that stem through her amulet. http://www.amazon.com/Stonekeeper-Amulet-Book-1/dp/0439846811/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1323786581&sr=1-1

6 Y/O/B If he's already in love with spider man I would just stick with that. Sider-Man has an all ages title called "Spider-Man Marvel Adventures" it's a few issues in but it probably won't matter to him and it's a monthly title so it'd be easier for you to get him "Hooked" and start expanding. http://marvelkids.marvel.com/

a series they would both like is "Salt Water Taffy" it's silly and fun about two boys on vacation at their cottage and meeting strange people and talking animals. It's fun and kids at my shop really like it.

You could, but it will probably be cheaper for you on Amazon.com. Here's volume 1 of One Piece to get you started: https://www.amazon.com/One-Piece-Vol-1-Japanese/dp/4088725093/

I've bought manga in Japanese from Amazon.com myself and have had zero issues. You won't find everything here, but you should be able to get pretty much all of One Piece in Japanese this way, and for a relatively good price.

u/shazammicus · 2 pointsr/comicbooks

Salt Water Taffy is a great all-ages book.

u/FapCaptainCrunch · 2 pointsr/adventuretime
u/ProdigySim · 2 pointsr/japanese

Practically every manga I've seen has furigana on it. Anything intended for teens and below will have them for sure.

You can buy them online fairly cheap now as well, though shipping will probably take a while. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/One-Piece-Vol-1-Japanese/dp/4088725093

Edit: one other note, I've found that most shounen manga (one piece, shingeki no kyojin, etc) will contain a lot of world-specific language or dialects. If you really want something more focused on real world language usage, you might try to find a story more based in modern-day society rather than a fantasy world.

Link? The one I'm looking at says 640 pages and 5.8 x 8.2 so it's going to be the same size as the Zelda Legendary Edition.

I'd love to have The Adventures of Superhero Girl by Faith Erin Hicks. She's such a fun writer/artist and I love her works. If you haven't read/seen her stuff you should totally check it out! Yay!

It's a character from Moomin! My favorite children's series. That "pad" is a book collection of stories, that we used to use as a laptop support to keep my bf's balls from cooking, and now that the laptop died and we have a desktop, we realized it's the perfect texture for a mouse pad. Love it :) though the one I'm using for my mouse is book 2

The store I worked for had a fundraiser for The Jimmy Fund and we were raising money for cancer. In exchange for a $1 donation, we gave them a scratch off ticket with a prize, usually something off the dollar menu at Burger King or a few other things.

I had just transferred stores, and was brand new. They thought it would be funny to put me at the fundraising table at the door (this was a store in a mall) to deal with the task of bugging everyone that entered and left to donate to the Fund, and explain to them the benefits of donating.

I got pretty into it, sporting a flower crown, an apron, they gave me a megaphone, I had balloons and I was actually making really good money here, like we were at over $100 raised in an hour and a half.

A couple people stopped and hung out with me for a while, watching me dance around and make people laugh, but one old weird dude stuck around all day.

He kept trying to talk to me and make the other customers go away and leave me alone so he could talk to me, and kept trying to give me his number and shake my hand. It was reeeally super weird, but I asked him politely to leave so I could do my job. He said ok and stood like 10 feet away and came back trying to talk to me and touch me and give me his number, so the manager came out and asked him to please be on his way and let me do my job.

The guy said okay, and left but within half an hour he was back doing the same thing being a weirdo. My manager called security and security asked him politely to leave me alone and he left. He came back and security escorted him out. He came back and got frickin arrested. I had to stay in the back room, in the break room. My manager gave me free movie tickets and bought me lunch and let me go home early, so it was pretty sweet.

edit: People be crazy.

Also, there's this Adventure Time Comic I would really love!

I'm not entirely sure how far it'll go, but I'm assuming at least through the Emerald arc

EDIT: I'm dumb and it literally says in the description that it goes through the Emerald arc

Tatterhood was always my favorite growing up. It's about a dark haired, wild, donkey riding princess that is uncouth and not princess-like, that no one likes, but turns out to be the hero that saves her sister. I honestly don't know why Disney didn't do a story about it.

The rest of the book is all about female empowerment fairy tales. Pretty awesome.

My three year old also loves My First Book of Girl Power, mostly because she thinks I'm Wonder Woman and she screams when she sees Black Canary (sonic scream, ya know).

Hasbro says it is, for whatever that is worth. For the chapter books though, I would suggest checking your library unless you want to have your own copy. For the comics, probably get the volumes from Amazon or something, the two story arcs I mentioned from FiM are volume 2 and Volume 4. The Friends Forever issues might be a bit of a hassle to get unless you get digital comics from comixology. Of course if you have a comic shop near by you can probably just go in and ask them to order them for you.

u/TheKiltedStranger · 1 pointr/comicbooks

Holy crap, I just looked at the price and you aren't kidding.

The one I linked is the 1st edition, you don't want that one (well, you do, but JEEZ), which I had, but had to sell a couple years ago. Then they reprinted it at Volume 1 and Volume 2, which are still expensive, but not multiple hundreds of dollars. If you want a little extra, like the gravy in between the stewy bits, you might also want the Companion, which is really cool.

EDIT Just looked again, and you can get a new 1st edition for about half of what you can get Volumes 1 & 2. Honestly, I'd just see if your library has it before you drop a c-note.

Read The Life and Time of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa. It is a collection of issues 0-12 of the series (issues 285-297 of the comic) The original paperback is $$$ since its out of print, but the hardcover is more affordable if you get it used. Going to a comic shop is the best bet. I expect they will have it on their shelf for cover price. Heck, you can probably buy the original issues for cover price.

In the original Carl Barks stories Scrooge would often make outrageous claims like the fact that he was a cattleman in Australia, a 49er in California or encouraged Teddy Roosevelt to take up politics. When Don Rosa took up the series and it turns out there is no bigger Carl Barks fan than him. He did a series of comics elaborating on all those fun tidbits and put together a quintessential history of Uncle Scrooge that is beyond enjoyable. It's a great read and gives you fabulous insight into McDuck's character.
