I'm definitely not in the "Detolfs are the only cabinets worth owning" camp--I also have an IKEA Malsjo and I recently got a double cabinet from Coaster Company that I like very much--but my Detolf has followed me to three different apartments (over the course of 5 years) and it's certainly been dependable. No stability issues, no structural concerns.

I'd probably avoid puck lights--they can create a spotlight effect that casts unappealing shadows on your figures. I use the Dioder lights from IKEA and they're fine. You could probably do better for cheaper if you were willing to get one of those spools of LEDs and a soldering tool, but the Dioders are definitely hassle-free.

Also, here are two options for dustproofing your case--both seem to work so it's really a matter of which you prefer the look of.

there is only 12" between each shelf so if you have any figures taller they won't fit. that is the only real downside imo. I divided to go with this cause I liked it better than the deltof that people usually get.

Bought it about 6 years ago and it's held up through 2 moves so far. Dimensions are almost identical to the DETOLF and I prefer this one because the shelves don't sway with every little vibration. However, you can generally get the DETOLFs way cheaper. I have a couple of them too and they're great for the price I paid.

Awesome! You should get them a display cabinet like a detolf from IKEA, or if that isnt an option, this glass curio cabinet that is basically the same thing!

Be careful though, if there is no Ikea around they will charge a lot for shipping. You can find them on ebay for roughly $150. I bought this for $166 and free shipping from Amazon. If there is an Ikea around, defiantly get the cheaper one.

Have you considered something slightly unconventional? I think China cabinets make for really cool and interesting display cases for less traditional stuff. For both price and uniqueness obviously craigslist or facebook marketplace are probably your best bet.

There is also something like this that would make for an interesting display, depending on how much floor space you have (or don't). I'm sure you could find things like this locally as well, and probably on the cheap. Bonus points in my book for mirrored backing, but I'm just gaudy like that (lmfao).

I personally think that the contrast of old or traditional with modern figurines kind of rules. You can have something that is 100% unique to your taste.

I know a lot of people recommend a Detolf but I don't live close enough to an Ikea for that to be viable so I went with this one on Amazon. It has been great and I will probably buy a second soon.

Tackle boxes are usually the go-to for storage once the collection gets big. Unfortunately they tend to almost universally be ugly as hell. If you're crafty you might want to look at picking up some Plano boxes and making a custom case for them.

For showing them off in a room like a game room your only real option is shadow box or something like this. They make little shelves or display domes for people who collect thimbles, those might be more of what you'd need.

For travel nothing beats a Beats Pill Speaker Case.

Sounds weird as fuck but they're cheap, they zip closed and stay that way, they're tough, and they have a loop on them for a cord or carabiner to attach to. They come in a variety of colors and stickers adhere to them very well (except for the one with the fabric exterior).

This, they have a payment plan too if you can't the full price which is very neat. It's a heavy box because the glass and set up took about an hour since instructions weren't great. But overall gorgeous detolf I plan on getting more

For the game boxes themselves, a bookshelf is probably the best option. However, if you get collector's editions of games you probably get a fair amount of statues and such, those would look great in a display case like this

I don't live near an IKEA, but I also don't own a glass case. There are other options, but getting close to a detolf price range is difficult (not impossible).

If you can, try searching your local craigslist listings to see people getting rid of their glass cabinets. If not, Amazon sells this which is pretty close to a detolf.

I managed to snag a 6-foot glass curio cabinet on Amazon Prime for under $150. Some assembly required but it was well worth it and holds all my X-Wing, Armada, and Imperial Assault (may they rest in peace) models. Here's the link:

Would you be referring to this 5 shelf one? I don't but according to others who have bought it the smallest distance between any of the shelves is 14.75 inches and the largest gap is 16 inches so it would depend on how large your figure is. The shelves themselves are apparently 10x22 inches. If you're worried about weight I don't think that should be a problem. The shelves are listed as having a weight limit of 28 pounds per shelf.


And when it comes to buying anything from Amazon I will always tell people to MAKE SURE whatever you are buying is shipping from Amazon's warehouse. Just because it has prime shipping doesn't necessarily mean it is coming direct from Amazon. If it's not coming direct from Amazon and you require a return they will very likely tell you to deal with whoever the seller is before coming to them, and I guarantee you both will try to give you a runaround so they don't have to deal with it. If you get it direct from Amazon and are a prime member returns should be much easier to deal with or they may just even send you a new one free of charge. Although luckily I've never had any trouble with them. I've gotten 4 of the 4 shelved curios and all have arrived in good shape. As with anything being shipped great distances though there is always the possibility of shipping damage.

I got mine off amazon with prime and it came in perfect condition and I like it more than detolfs. The thicker metal posts make it look less cheap.

Might be smaller than you're looking for, but one possible alternative is using those football or basketball display case things. They should be relatively cheap and be large enough to hold a few scales. Not sure what the budget is but for example something like this could work like a mini-Detolf.
