Gifts I've given, or considered giving, over the years -- descending price order

u/supah_lurkah · 23 pointsr/comics

It's there to wear down the callouses on your feet. Most beauty shops have them. Example

u/crimsonninja · 19 pointsr/crossfit

Not a solution for now, but for future prevention. Lava Pumice Stone. Leave it in the shower and rub/shave down your calluses anytime you're in there.

I have the same problem, my nails are incredibly hard to cut.

After breaking 3 different nail clippers in a day, I found these: seki nail clipper

Made of stainless steel and very sharp, they really cut your nail instead of tearing it like most nail clippers.

I’ve had mine (normal nailclipper, not the toenail clipper) for about 6 years now and still looks and works as new.

u/k0upa · 10 pointsr/muacjdiscussion

I absolutely love getting facials. There's a spa school near my house that I go to every couple of months. They've done a better job than any other place I've been too and the prices are extremely reasonable ($24 for an hour and 15 minute facial + $10 more if you want an ampule or enzyme treatment with it).
I used to get gel manis and pedicures every 2-3 weeks but I stopped doing so when I moved back home because it's very expensive here. So I do my own nails/pedis now. If you're looking for an amazing foot file that will get all the dead skin off I highly recommend this. It has done miracles for my feet.

Has anyone tried sugaring as an alternative to waxing? If so please let me know!

On the subject of nail files, crystal (glass) nail files last forever. I just recently bought this set on Amazon after having a crystal file I'd had for the last like, ten years. That one is still in perfect condition, but I wanted a bigger one for my feet. All you do is wash them every now and then. They're also gentler than emery boards.

  • I know it's basic and not super exciting but I have this Mani pedi set and I love it. It is surprisingly good quality for the price and it has a ton of tools in it. I use it almost every day.

  • I love the Frankly, my Dear polish :)

  • My personal goal is to lower my Cholesterol and have a happy healthy baby in December :D

  • poppin bottles

I highly recommend trying using Bazuka (link below) as it's much higher in salicylic acid concentration than most things found in pharmacy's. As most anyone in this sub will say, the biggest trick is being consistent with your chosen removal tool/cream and continually debrideing the affected area in order to maintain maximum contact with the infected area. Perpetually keep the area covered in something (ACV, duct tape, wart cream, etc). The process will take months and months. Also, I highly recommend purchasing some cuticle removal nippers. Example links below:

https://www.amazon.com/Bazuka-Extra-Strength-6G-x/dp/B0055E2TGE/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1541222200&sr=8-3&keywords=bazuka+wart+remover

^ highly recommend, as I personally use it semi-daily

^ Example link of what type of tool you should be using to debride the affected area. IMPORTANT NOTE, make sure to keep whatever tool you use perpetually cleaned with rubbing alcohol, or you risk spreading the virus or causing a bacterial infection.

Disclaimer: (just in case) I'm not a doctor, but the son of a retired Podiatrist. Been through wart removal in ALL of it's forms. Laser, surgical removal, etc

I got something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VS2N6F/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1 for myself, just shave the calluses off. No rips or tears.

u/LoneCowboy · 4 pointsr/weightroom

Got calluses, can't get rid of them? they still tear, get long, you have to cut them off so they dont' tear. Yeah, me too. I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R6P72JO/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_3_w?th=1

AMAZING. Took about 30 seconds and knocked off all that big dead skin on my hands. It's $7. Only leaves the hard area underneath but all the dead skin is gone.

works way better than all the sponges and such. Just thought I'd pass that along, wish I had known about it long ago.

Seconding the glass file. I bought these, and I'm loving them.

u/productofskwat · 3 pointsr/calmhands

Two suggestions:

  1. Get a manicure. Doesn't matter what sex you are. You can get a basic one for $10, and just tell them you don't want any polish. The fact that you spent money on it will help deter you from messing it up.
  2. Buy some cuticle clippers. This is what they use at the salon to trim those little pieces of skin. I used to use nail clippers, but they're not designed for skin, and often take off more skin than you intended and feeds the cycle. (I've used exacto blades too, but they also led to me destroying my fingers even more) I've been using cuticle clippers for years and they're perfection. I'll start picking and tear my skin, but once I use the cuticle slippers to trim it off, I having nothing left to pick at. And it's a clean cut, unlike exacto blades or clippers.
u/MikoriCheetah · 3 pointsr/massage

My pleasure to help, believe me!

As with most things, exactly the sort of effect doing both of these things is going to have on you is dependent on you as a person and the way you climb and practice. You're right that using gloves tends to make climbing more difficult - you strike me as less of a casual climber than I am, and so perhaps you could find another solution.

Regular moisturizing might do the trick. Maybe manicures, if they have a service that helps with callouses - I don't have experience with manicures, so it's hard for me to say. You could try something yourself like a pumice rock to see if you could maintain the callouses themselves, but perhaps keep them smooth so that they don't scrape on your client's skin when you're working.

I would also suggest asking your teachers and your classmates these things when you begin working. They can give you direct, personal feedback on how your hands feel. But, as far as your original question, even when I was climbing every other day, I had no problems doing massage as well. Just take good care of yourself, and take a little time off from the climbing or go up easier routes if you start hurting, perhaps.

Hey im a nail technician and used to be a horrid nail biter. I've coached many through the habit! Everything these ppl said is true but im going to provide you with some links:

1- Nail file - you dont need a glass one obv but they last forever and are more sustainable.

2- Cuticle Nippers- I would, like u/deskais said, keep them with you all the time for a while and use that when you have a hang nail or rough cuticle you want to pick at. This one is a pretty inexpensive pair that comes with a cuticle pusher to push your cuticles back with.

3- Disgustig nail polish - I've heard tales of people chewing through it but that is mind boggling to me. It tastes awful and will at the very least remind you if you are biting at them subconsciously. There is another brand called "stop the bite" but it wears off and isn't so bad. This one stays on until you remove it.

4- Cuticle Cream. This one is important and would be my #1 choice if you only picked one. Moisturize that shit every day. Keep it on your nightstand or in your car so you dont forget. If they aren't dry, there will be nothing to pick at and they will look so much better.

Id also get a professional manicure just to see how they do it and then that will help you learn how to do it yourself, and it will clean them up and then all you have to do is keep it up with at home care.

Good luck! Id love to see a followup post in a month if you remember.

u/faerygirl956 · 3 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

Honestly your nails don't look bad! Get a good nail file (a lot of people swear by glass nail files, although I personally like a two-way metal file). Keep it with you as much as you can! Throw it into your purse, keep it in your car, whatever. Part of maintaining my nail shape is being able to fix small breaks and cracks before they cause serious damage. Decide what shape you want (check out this visual guide if you're stumped). Round, oval, and squoval are the strongest nail shapes, so I'd start with out of those three. It looks like your nail shape is naturally "round", so stick with that to begin with. Growing your nails out a little more will make your fingers look longer, but when you work with your hands its hard to do.

Good luck!

u/juvenal06 · 3 pointsr/bodyweightfitness

Like almost everyone here, I went through the same process a few years ago. Tried everything before settling on the simplest solution:

Use climbing chalk for grip and shave the calluses every few weeks with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073VS2N6F/ref=sspa_mw_detail_2?psc=1

As others have said, don't use gloves. Just accept a little discomfort until your hands toughen.

u/Treat_Choself · 3 pointsr/calmhands

Get one of these: https://smile.amazon.com/Satin-Edge-Rubber-Cuticle-Cleaner/dp/B00198ZPU2 Make sure it has a scoopy thing on the one end and a curvy cuticle pusher backer on the other so there's nothing sharp there to tempt you. I'm amazed at how gross my clean-looking nails can get after I use this thing (and I use a nail brush every day in the shower, so it's not like I don't clean my nails!)

u/needmorepolish · 3 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

From what I have heard, the crystal glass nail files are better for a variety of reasons but the main one being that it is so much finer of a grit. This is the first time I've purchased any and I already love them! It filed and shaped my nails quickly. I've also heard that they last much longer than metal or emery board files. I have heard of people getting them from Sephora and Ulta but I got these off amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003X9E236/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/Khirsah01 · 2 pointsr/ehlersdanlos

Omg the fragile skin is so horrible... I had to stop cutting my nails with a standard clipper trimmer and had to start filing (very carefully at first) with glass files so there's no scraggly or sharp ends as my skin slices easily. I used to draw blood regularly trying to pick up small fiddly things, even pills! I still bump into furniture and find blood on my legs or arms though.

I also seem to have fewer nail breaks since keeping with the filing. A gentle pressure and a good glass file where the filing grit is etched into the glass is great! I also have an older metal file that I find is best for finishing, but I can't find more of that wave surface type. It made the free edge shiny smooth and impossible to catch on things.

Once I get to my PC, I'll edit this once I get links for the glass files I use and see if I can find info on the metal file.

u/celosia89 · 2 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

These are the ones I got on amazon.
Recently I've been using OPI's Ridge Filler. I've found that it helps keep my polish from lifting or peeling. I also use Sally Hansen Double Duty Strengthening Base Coat.

u/I_fight_demons · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

I did the classic 'search for item on Amazon and grab the cheapest/top option' and got this.

I've been very happy with it- only thing it lacks that I think I may want to use is an emory board. I've never used one, but figure it might also be useful, but emory boards are dollar store items for sure. It has the file, which I've used a small amount but not had anything really noteworthy come of it. Oh, and the tweezers totally suck, so there's that.

On the plus side, you feel like a bond villain opening up a torture kit every time you pull it out!

u/swirvbox · 2 pointsr/3Dprinting

A paper towel works really well for this. Then rub on your jeans. No joke. I can get a glass finish on abs/pla/pet with this method.

Edit: For smaller parts I have used fingernail sanding/polishing blocks like these: http://www.amazon.com/Shiner-Buffer-Sanding-Manicure-Product/dp/B00GOIKKCA/

u/peanutmonkey · 2 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

<3 the nails! And cuticle care is my obsession! Check out this video on cuticle removal. I am firmly in the "no trim" camp, so I just push mine back regularly. I use some Sally Hansen cuticle removing gel and a pusher like that to remove the excess about once every couple of weeks. And while in the shower, I generally push them back with my nail about once a week. For moisture I use coconut oil right after manicures and this lotion for everyday.

u/SystemFolder · 2 pointsr/wheredidthesodago

The Ped Egg, the Pedi Perfect, and the like are way too expensive. I use a Stanley Surform Pocket Plane instead. If you want something that scrapes lighter, a 6 pound bag of Char-Broil Lava Rock is much cheaper than a single Aisilk Earth Lava Pumice Stone.

u/The_Stapher · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

Someothers and I just had a convo about this not to long ago. Here's a link for the thread.

The TL;DR for it though is we found out that these Nano Glass nail files are essentially the same thing for a fraction of the price. Just last night I used a "Mr. Clean Sheet" I had laying around which is essentially just a Melamine Sponge and works to "matte" the shine. You can get a single pack of the "Mr. Clean Sheets" at your typical store (Target, Walmart, etc.) for about $6 USD a pack.

This whole set up works virtually identical and is a fraction of the cost. I hope this helps out! :)

u/AthlonEVO · 2 pointsr/metalearth

Cuticle clippers work very well.

u/daisyismydog · 2 pointsr/RandomActsofMakeup

I've seen them in little specialty stores before going for $20 a pop, so this set was an amazing deal! They're supposed to last forever (and having just tried out this one, I believe it!) and they file so quickly.

In case you (or anyone else!) is interested here is the link: SET OF 5 NAIL FILES AT INTRODUCTION PRICE!!! u/letmehowl · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

Just a quick suggestion. I don't know if you're male or female, but if you keep clear nail polish on your nails, that might help deter you as it tastes god awful. I had a friend who stopped biting her nails by constantly keeping polish on them because she absolutely hated the taste. Also, keeping a pair of nail clippers and a file near you might help. I stopped biting my nails many years ago, but I still bite at the skin around them when I get nervous. I keep a pair of these on hand and will often just sit and snip away while watching tv. It really helps to snip it off because I would otherwise try to bite it off. Hope this helps!

u/autumn_solace · 2 pointsr/RedditLaqueristas

A couple years ago for Christmas my boyfriend got me a gel polish kit. He got me this polish kit, this UV lamp, and some UV damage protecting gloves. I can't speak for anything else since I haven't used other products, but I really like using it! My biggest gripe is that the gel polishes in my kit are not very opaque. It takes many many coats of polish before it starts looking like a solid color. Also, the colors that are shown on the caps are not really accurate to how they come out on my nails, which can be a bummer. One time I wanted cherry red nails and they came out more pink. I'd like to eventually invest in some other brands of polishes to see if I get better results. The gloves are pretty nice so I'd recommend those if you are concerned about UV damage on your hands. As far as actual UV lamps goes, I don't see how there could be too much difference between them, unless you got a tiny one-nail-at-a-time lamp vs a full sized one. Overall I think it's been worth having the kit. I don't use it very often, but still really enjoy it when I have the time!

u/newsdaylaura18 · 2 pointsr/beauty

I was a CHRONIC nail biter. Like you would puke at the site of my nails. I bit them past the quick and they bled quite often. I quit in Jan of 2010 and while my nails still aren't super strong, they are WAY stronger than they were when I was shredding them to bits. I would recommend you use this Sally Hansen nail oil, it has Vitamin E in it which is great for strengthening your nails and the product itself is also inexpensive. If you want to spend a little more, you can buy Nailtique, which I hear works wonders though I never used it at $30 a bottle. I would also recommend some good old fashion patience in letting them grow out. Good luck!

you know what works really well?

in most stores beauty sections they sell a nail cutter with the blades on the side, like a tiny pair of scissors but at just the right angle to clip away ingrown nails. works perfect and it was my most prized tool for a few years lol.

You can also round the edge of the nail it makes it harder to bite as well.

u/dangerousphoenix · 1 pointr/RandomActsOfPolish

OK! Short lesson time :D First thing to know is that the cuticle isn't what you think it is! Read this blog entry :)
Ok, now that you know what cuticles actually are, first step is to moisturize those mofos! Even if you just rub in lotion when you put lotion on your hands, they NEED moisture. Preferably use a cuticle balm or oil, and don't forget to apply it to your nails as well!

Next, you wanna remove your cuticles, put on a cuticle remover and push them with a cuticle stick and you can wipe them off with a tissue. This is important because polish doesn't stick to the cuticle. Also, though you aren't supposed to trim the eponychium, I still do because honestly, mine are completely unruly. If you trim them do as little as possible.

u/baldylox · 1 pointr/Watches

I like to use those spongy nail polishers that you can buy at any drug store:

https://www.amazon.com/Shiner-Buffer-Sanding-Manicure-Product/dp/B00GOIKKCA

They have soooo many uses. They're also great for polishing scratches out of acrylic crystals, and even your nails!

Plus they're spongy so they give a little, which allows you to achieve a more finished look by getting into all the little nooks and crannies.

Make sure your case is solid stainless or something. If it's plated over a base metal, you're gonna wreck it - as you know, I'm sure.

u/Orgell_Evaan · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Use one of these for the nubs, then dip the parts in Future.

You'll probably want to wear gloves, too.

The MEHAZ 660 is reasonably priced, cuts great, and will probably last forever. I've had it for a year.

u/mike413 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I also bought a Seki Edge over a year ago. It is the best I've used, and hasn't shown problems yet.

I actually bought the toenail clipper and the fingernail clipper, but use the toenail clipper exclusively. It is larger, but you get more leverage and it ends up being more precise for me.

Other nail clippers are cheaper, but end up being disposable.

u/xkisses · 1 pointr/lacqueristas

Maybe too late, but here's my setup:

I bought this light and it's amazing. Large enough for all fingers and very durable.

This cuticle pusher/gel polish scraper

Any type of nail dehydrator (just look for "Natural Nail Dehydrator", any brand is fine.

I'd also buy a topcoat and basecoat, and a couple basic colors. I'd recommend Gelish or CND. Let her choose additional colors if she wants.

Other necessities - which you may have around the house: Acetone (full-strength), cotton balls, rubbing alcohol, orange sticks, nail files.

I'd stay away from kits, as I found it's better to buy the best-quality stuff individually; inevitably a couple parts of the kit will be kinda crappy.

I'd also recommend putting it all into a bingo bag. Yeah, you can find lots of "nail kits" and "nail bags" but I swear I found this bingo bag on sale and it fits EVERYTHING perfectly. Like this one

Any other questions, please ask. I've been doing my own gel nails for a long time, and have worked with a lot of products and tried just about everything. :)

u/biznalls20 · 1 pointr/opiates

You absolutely can snort the OP Oxycontin. It is just more work. You grind it into a super fine powder first with something like a pedegg you can grab at any pharmacy:

https://www.amazon.com/Microplane-Colossal-Pedicure-Rasp-Foot/dp/B00R6P72JO/ref=pd_lpo_194_tr_t_3/163-8615945-5397060?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=NRS0Z4GW3ADGE6W5YHVY&th=1

You then microwave it for like 30 seconds to kill the time release stuff in it, it will start to turn brown and often spark.

You then put in freezer to cool down for a while and then chop up like normal and snort away.

Search for 'crisping oxycontin OP;' on youtube for video guides.

Sure it is more work but if you want to snort an OP and turn it from ER into instant release this is the way to do it. I do it often, works fine. Again is a good amount of work but it works.

Putting it in coke in a shot glass overnight also works to kill the ER mechanism. I often stick 2 x 80 mg OP in shot glass with coke overnight and start my morning drinking that. Make sure to wash the shot glass a few times with more coke to get all the slimy goodness.

Favorite memory from the year: Going back to DDO it may seem silly to be happy about going back to a game, but I had a lot of friends there, and the welcome back I got when I went back made me feel welcome and missed and maybe a little bit awesome.

Past halloween: When my mom would dress up for halloween. There was one year her and I were both gypsies. She'd bought the skirts, but we had the shirts, and she had the scarves and spangly jewelry and i was loaded with clicking and bright necklaces as bracelets etc. It was awesome. It was the only year we dressed the same.

I am looking forward to hitting the halfway mark of my weight loss. 2 more lbs to go! then I'll have lost 50 and have 50 more to go! I will probably dance that week! XD

Hint: push back and trim the cuticle (here's a tool for it: https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Cuticle-Clipper-Stainless-Springs/dp/B01G6Y376W/) - this keeps the polish from glomming onto your skin. On your toes, especially, don't overlap the edge of the skin - this "seals" the nail, making them much harder to dry out and making it easy to get a fungal breakout (which looks really unsexy). There are anti-fungal polishes that you can use as a base for your toes.

Paint your toenails only for special occasions to avoid messing them up. If you want your fingernails to look good, practice keeping them nice, and use a clear nail polish like a strengthening polish - if you get "caught" you just say you like your nails to look nice and this protects them.

If you get "caught" with a very pretty color, your only excuse is that you're a femboy, so just own it in that case. :)

u/Rebeleleven · 1 pointr/Fitness

Basically this, /u/BeeFact.

I use this pumice after deadlifting and benching days. In addition to that, I use CeraVe's hand cream probably once a day or so.

If my callouses get really messed up (which they don't anymore from using the above steps), I would apply CeraVe's healing ointment after a thorough pumice session before bed.

Also, you should wash your hands immediately after your workout to remove any chalk from your hands. Donny Shankle has a hand care video that echoes what I said above.

I've seen mentions that the raser look very similar to glass nail files you can find on Amazon. Proceed with caution.
