Are you sure you want a hard plastic case?

Like, are you really sure? Because there are a lot of really good soft cases that do the same job as long as you aren't going to be taking it onto an airplane.

Like this one

If you want a really tough case - Pelican 1750.

A lesser case - Pelican iM3300.

I'd ditch the idea of using a R700, go Tikka Compact Tactical Rifle or Bergara HMR.

Bergara comes with a fully adjustable stock (adjustable cheek riser and length of pull via spacers). I'm not the biggest fan of the factory stock on Tikkas but they are rigid, and a KRG Bravo would be a budget friendly upgrade for the future.

Midway is having a sale on a Vortex Viper PST Gen2 3-15x44 w/ EBR-2C reticle and 1st Focal Plane for $599 shipped

A good bipod to start out with is a Harris HBLMS 9"-13" with the podlock to "lock out the bipod."
It's on Amazon for $100+$26 for the podlock

The podlock can be seen in "Frequently Bought Together" on the product page.

I've never had an issue with keeping my face on the gun and running a bolt while shooting right or left handed.

Only thing I have left, is why 308 and not 6.5 Creedmore?

u/Brotherauron · 3 pointsr/guns

If I get a Harris bipod for my AR (quad rail) do they make one specifically for picatinny rails or do i need one of these bad mamajamas to mount it?

u/GrillMasterGeneral · 3 pointsr/longrange

Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor.

So I'm pretty new to long range shooting. Like really new, so please take this as someone in your shoes rather than an experts point of view.

I started researching about 2 months ago, bought a gun 2 weeks ago, and 3 days ago I was ringing steel at 500 yards (first fucking shot at 500 too!!). Now I had a lot of help. My girlfriend's brother is very talented and experienced in long range shooting. He has just about every type, style, and caliber long gun you would want in this sport. With his guidance I bought this.

This is my setup:

  • Predator in 6.5cm
  • Primary Arms 4-16x44mm
  • Weaver Rings
  • Caldwell Bi-pod 9-13in

All in I'm at just over $700.00 (including my first box of ammo).

My motivation behind this purchase is 2 things.

  • I want to get a Mule Deer/White tail this season.
  • I wanted to go as deep as possible for as cheap as possible.

I'm all dialed in at 200 yards and pretty excited to hit the range again later this week. I hope to be hitting 1000 yards if the wind isn't so bad next time. I could have spent less, but there is no denying that the hype behind the 6.5 American made predator is real.

Good luck, be safe, and happy shooting!

Edit: Because I can't computer and linked things wrong
u/CannibalVegan · 2 pointsr/longrange

There's always this option I guess if you want a minimalist look and don't plan on removing the bipod very often, risking losing the little piece.

Atlas are top of the line, however Harris are the measuring stick everything is compared to. I have both Harris and Caldwell 9"-13" that have rotation and notched legs. The Caldwell is a piece of junk in comparison.

Harris Bipods HBLMS 9-13

u/basedJMB · 2 pointsr/ar15

The bipod mounted on your gas block will shift your POI for sure.
If you mount it on a FF tube, you wont get that POI shift.

Over the UTG, a Harris is going to be higher quality. I dont think that the Harris is worth the amount they're asking for but no one is putting out that level of quality for cheaper unfortunately. I have a Caldwell that comes close, but is still loose in areas and gets annoying.

If you look over in r/gundeals, theres sometimes sales on harris. For example, here:
http://opticscamp.com/181-harris-bipods

You dont have to spend $50 on a picatinny to sling point adapter though.

http://www.amazon.com/Quick-Detach-Adapter-Picatinny-Weaver/dp/B00LEBNIGW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1426351938&sr=8-4&keywords=harris+bipod+adapter

http://www.amazon.com/Harris-Adaptor-picitinny-Weaver-compatible/dp/B004MCLGV4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1426351938&sr=8-3&keywords=harris+bipod+adapter

If i were to spend $200 on a bipod however, I would just go up and get an Atlas.

Now, whether or not it's worth it to you to get a bipod over a bolt. It really depends on your purpose. You mention bench gun, so a good bipod mounted on a free floated handguard is going to make a world of difference over your current setup. This is assuming that you're continuing on bench gun setup and you're trying to squeeze as much accuracy out of it. That and it's an accurate gun in the first place.

A coated bolt will be just that, it'll make life a little easier when cleaning. What kind of coating though? Chromed BCG is going to be the easiest and you just need a towel. NiB, in my experience is a little slicker but not amazingly easier to clean than a nitrided bolt. If you NiB, I'd just get one from Aimsurplus and call it a day.

For accuracy's sake I would prioritize a FF handguard, then mounting the bipod on that, then BCG last.

If just blasting and accuracy doesnt matter, it's whatever the wind blows in your favor.

I hope I answered your question.

u/puf_puf_paarthurnax · 2 pointsr/guns

Yeah, pretty sure it's this one. it was super cheap and the spring rattle is pretty loud but for a cheapie bipod it fits my needs pretty well. Mine didn't come CVlife branded though.

If you're feeling a little more wealthy than the $16 bipod I really like my buddy's caldwell pivot. it sits a bit higher with the legs out and can pivot to adjust if your bench isnt even.

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/guns

Thanks! This is the bipod, but I am getting another one that doesn't attach to the barrel.

u/Ghett0blasterX · 2 pointsr/guns

A rifle rest. Trying to prop my rifle up on my bag and sandbags was a nightmare, taking an otherwise unused bipod (and the accompanying rail section) on and off my handguards was a pain in the ass, I finally bought one of these and have since zeroed all of my rifles effortlessly.

A two-wheeler / hand truck. The worst part of every range trip is carrying shit to and from the car from the last spot in the parking lot. My ammo can, rifle bag, and spotting scope all fit on this hand truck with a couple of bungee cords and just leave my target stand to haul out manually.

A quality target stand. My range sells cardboard A-frame target stands that blow over in a light breeze, sag when they get wet, and are too short to shoot at less than 25 yards or so, which was certainly too far for me to make any use of with a handgun. I built a square-framed two-legged target stand out of 2x2s and PVC pipe to remedy the situation, but it's a heavy bastard made of smooth, droppable surfaces and 6-foot lengths of ungainliness. I picked up the Range-Pro and now all I have to do is stick a pair of 2x1s in and staple away. I'd also say the Juggernaut is probably worth the extra dosh, the Range-Pro is a little unstable on the front-to-back axis if you're on uneven ground in the wind.

Sight Adjustment Tools (AK / AR). Quit dicking around with that cartridge (or in the case of the AK, that flint and piece of whale bone) and get the tool. The AR tool is also good for Tech Sights.

A one-piece rifle-length cleaning rod. I actually picked mine up (mine was a nylon number, not the model linked) from Wal-Mart for about $7, and it's a huge improvement over the 3-4 piece brass rod you get with every cleaning kit. No dicking around with thread adapters or having the rod too inflexible to get down an AK barrel from the breach, you just stick your brush / jag on the end and go, and it's maybe a third of the weight. Side note: Wal-Mart sells AK cleaning rods by the 10-pack, just in case you're a fucking lunatic.

Would I be able to get a bipod with an M-LOK adapter? This was the bipod I wanted to get and I was wondering if this would fit my rifle?

I got the barrel band and the "Sniper profile" bipod from UTG last week and so far I like it a lot! My only complaint is that the ring to extend the bipod's legs can be a bit tight sometimes...

Maybe something that clamps onto the barrel? Kind of ghetto but it'll work.

You don't need to get a new one, you just need one of these.

Both Caldwell and the Harris bipods they're copied from have a little trouble with the tilt feature, as the thumb screws used aren't large enough to torque them enough to tighten them.

Also, both bipods are backward.

All I've ever seen was the lone wolf adapter but this one looks nice and adds rail. It doesn't completely seal the front.

ammo is the biggest factor when shooting 22. I'd suggest you try CCI standard velocity to start, or any match grade 22 ammo that is standard velocity, which will be much more accurate than the supersonic stuff. My CZ 455 really shoots Lapua Center-X ammo well, as well as the pricier Eley stuff.

You'd also do better with a bipod to get a more stable base to shoot from. You don't even have to spend that much

for a scope, I have a Bushnell "rimfire optics" model on my CZ 455, it was ~$140 and I have much nicer scopes I could swap it for, but I have yet to do so because it's worked so well for me. This model looks pretty good, I have the next tier up with more magnification but it seems to be discontinued. It has a ton of elevation available for adjustment, I've shot out to 300 with it, and even 500 with holdover past it's adjustment range. Get a rail to mount it on, and you'd be good to go.

Where do you live in MA? The south shore area hosts monthly informal 22 rifle matches at area clubs, and they are open to all and very helpful to beginners.

This sling stud is what I use. If you have a slim handguard you may need to remove it to install the stud. Haven't had any problems using it with a cheapo amazon 6-9" bipod.

Because you can get every bit of performance you'll need for a 6 lb rimfire from a $20 bipod of the same design. What you're looking at are made for rifles 10 lbs heavier.

I use THIS it attaches to your front swivel mount in a flash. I use it while zeroing sights

u/Cletusvandayam · 1 pointr/guns

BUY THIS it's made to attach to your front sling swivel but also comes with an adapter so you can use it on any gun that has a rail. OR THIS if you don't need the adapter.

I paid 138 and that's including shipping. IMO a very good deal. Also there is a cheap amazon qd.

Of you go that route just but off amazon. Total would be under $100

Go with this:

Cheap, stable, solid lockup when retracted, not made of chinesium, just throw some blue loctite on the thread before tightening and you're golden. Spend the extra $50-100 for a brand name on ammo instead.
