The bag I use currently is a stylish/professional backpack, and I get approached for directions in every city I’m in (not to tourist attractions, more like ‘which way is X street’) so I assume I pull off not looking like a traveler. (I’m also an objectively attractive female, so I’m non-threatening, that might be part of it.

I think hiking/outdoors backpacks scream traveler, but I wouldn’t say the same about a Cabin Zero or something in that line of things.

amazon link to my $25 bag that I’ve been using for 2 years.

Without knowing more specifics, I’d recommend the Timbuk2 Q

u/psycho202 · 5 pointsr/sysadmin

Older generation Wenger/Swissgear backpack, I've got 2: one for work laptop, foldable laptop stand, wireless mouse & keyboard, network cables, serial cables, ... that I take with me every day. This one has spent the last 5 years being used and abused, and only now is showing some slight wear (ie the stitching of a velcro patch coming loose, no big deal).

My other bag is used for my personal laptop when I go on travels, and fits my notebook, tablet, external hdd with media, ... when I go travel. This one has been with me for 7 years.

No complaints ever about Swissgear, friggin durable backpacks. Only brand that has comfortably fit my back AND stayed comfortable for more than 3 years.

[Edit:] Found the model, it's the Wenger 600637 Carbon 17" laptop backpack.

Just make sure you get a Red Badge version. The black badge version is terrible.

u/SuperElitist · 4 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Looks like a cheap knockoff of the Maxpedition Falcon II, which is 1050 denier, and almost the best backpack I've ever owned (obviously, the SwissGear Pegasus is a no-brainer in the BIFL category. I've had mine for about a decade now).

In this case you really do get what you pay for. Grab the Falcon II, you won't be disappointed.

Edit: it is worth noting that the Falcon II also doesn't have a true lifetime warranty. But if it's anything like the Pegasus, I'm really not worried.

u/gordonabstract · 4 pointsr/college

So, this is a bit of a stupid and vague question but I figured I should ask anyway. I bought a backpack specifically for college since my old high school one was falling apart. It's nice and has a compartment for my laptop, a main compartment which I can fit about 4 notebooks into with room for a little agenda, and a front compartment that I've put a bunch of random stuff in (stuff like gum, Advil, hand sanitizer, writing utensils, and a portable battery).

My question: should I be expecting to carry way more stuff for my freshmen year of college? Should I opt for an even bigger backpack? This might depend on classes too. My girlfriend told me that I should've gotten a bigger backpack since my new one, with all the stuff I mentioned, is pretty full now, but she also said to at least use it for the first week before deciding to return it.

She has a point but I also wanted to point out that there's only one day a week where I have 3 classes. The other days, I usually have one or two classes that are pretty spaced out, so I could leave certain materials in my car and run to get them if I really needed too.

Let me know on what your opinion is regarding backpacks for college. And another question, for the heck of it: what laptop/computer are you rocking for college?

u/Do_I_Have_An_OK_Name · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I have had one of these for about 8 years. It has seen regular use, and has cosmetic wear, but otherwise its all good. Saw everyday use for years.

Edit: Here is mine

u/greenseaglitch · 3 pointsr/backpacks

I haven't found a ton of them out there. There's this one at least.

I've had this SwissGear backpack for 8 years now. Used for carrying textbooks/notepads, laptop + charger, headphones. Occasionally used as carry-on or when going hiking, stuffed with clothes + camera +lenses, water bottles.

Zero visible damage.

u/noonelives520 · 3 pointsr/sysadmin

I'm on my second SwissGear 1900. First one lasted 5 years before one of the straps broke (my fault for constantly carrying it on one arm). It has a spot for pretty much everything I need day to day plus a few extra pockets.

u/fndmntl · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I love this computer backpack from Belkin. It's very slim, but has enough space to hold your MacBook Pro, a notebook, a medium-sized textbook, charger/cables, and some other stuff. Give it a look.

Good luck on your journey, and remember, you can't come up for air without pissing someone off, so ignore the hate.

u/pabloscoke · 2 pointsr/backpacks

I've been looking at the Timbuk2 Q backpack. It's all black and it's 50% off on Amazon right now. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HSGKSR4/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I16E1W3SVN8D59&colid=3LCIOA984SZSE

Going off to uni soon and needing a new backpack, seeing as I skate, and was wondering what you guys think of this. My campus is in the countryside so I'd like something that could take a bit of beating because I'm a fan of going out on walks through the woods, but also wanted something that I can use everyday and doesn't look too bad. Would happily go with something like a canvas bag though, just needs to be alright to carry a 15.6 inch laptop and lug books on a daily basis.

I fucking love my everki. I have put it through some serious abuse and it still looks new.

u/Pegs520 · 2 pointsr/ar15

I got this

It fits my broken down 16" rifle snugly, and I think it will fit a complete AR pistol too depending on barrel length. It's decent quality, and it'll fit plenty of extras. Nothing fancy, but it works well and looks nice.

u/charliemcdougal · 2 pointsr/onebag

I'm a big fan of the Everki line of products. I have the Everki Atlas for EDC and love it. They also have great messenger bags. All could easily safely accommodate two laptops.

u/ninjapirate9901 · 2 pointsr/Alienware

If you want something to match your m14x go with a Mobile Edge sleeve. Otherwise there are a large number of alternatives (just have a browse through Amazon to see which designs you like).Alternatively take a look at this Case Logic if you want a decent 14" laptop bag.

I use this for work and play. It's not flashy but it works. I have seen some spots online selling them for between $30-40. Its pretty roomy.

u/epiphyte2 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I have this one. It has a padded laptop sleeve, ipad sleeve, small pockets for accessories, a crush proof sunglasses area, a large main compartment big enough to put a relatively thick jacket, and plenty of organizing areas. I've been traveling with for the past year and it's held up. I can fit a macbook, ipad, dslr, sweatshirt, water bottle, a pair of full sized headphones and a couple books. Not terribly bulky either, I'd recommend it.

Works great and it's very rugged as well. Can carry my RBP and Macbook Air very easily.

u/rameez_s · 2 pointsr/APStudents

Took 3 APS and an IBHL, and honestly I had no binders or any clunky books. Used this bag and only had to fit my laptop, a few thin study books, papers, and some utensils.

I have that one. It's awesome. I got mine on eBay for like $80. That was awhile ago though. But it really works well I carry all my school stuff in it and it's big enough for a few days trips. There's lots of video reviews on YouTube as well. I'd check it out.

I had this same dilemma for the past few months. Couldnt decide on a bag. I finally committed and went for this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001LA57ZQ

I can fit 3 laptops, multiple cables, label maker, chargers, etc etc. Very very comfy bag too

u/tanginayeah · 2 pointsr/Philippines

Programmer here.

I used to have the North Face, Yavapai 2013. I could pack my MBP, gym clothes, and other stuff there with no problems.

Then I went to US. I ordered Targus Drifter II Backpack on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00507NAYQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) supposedly for a friend but I started liking it. It's a really big bag with lots of pockets. I can fit my MBP, GoPro and accessories, lots of chargers, and a week worth of light summer clothes.

u/Milabial · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Looking for a backpack that’s professional enough for my nyc tech job, comfortable to wear, roomy enough for laptop, some stuff, change of gym clothes and lunch, but not necessarily gym shoes.

I have one I like the look of and it’s nice and light, but it’s super sweaty on my back and doesn’t hold enough. It's here.

Edit to fix link and fix description.

I picked up the Dell 7MTR0 Professional Sleeve 13 and couldn't be happier. Love the shoulder strap option and small accessory storage. Fits like a glove.

u/anandosaurus · 2 pointsr/EDC

Thanks! I use this backpack and just take advantage of the side pockets

u/alphager · 2 pointsr/de_EDV

Ich nutze den hier.

Kostet 70€, ist aber unglaublich stabil und geräumig. Damit habe ich sogar mein Gaming-Notebook transportiert bekommen.

I have this [Thule bag] (http://amzn.to/1DXRXcq) and I love it. Had it for about 2 years. One of the zipper pulls finally broke, but that's easily replaceable. Everything else, to include the zippers themselves, are in great shape. I travel the world with this thing and it holds up well. Great pockets for organization too.

I found this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GI5CSA/ref=dp_cerb_1 backpack at a pawn shop in Denver for $15. Been using it for the last three years with zero complaints. Not sure if I'd ever pay retail for it(when it eventually breaks down), but for $15 it was one of the best investments I've made.

Another +1 for the North Face Surge 2. Also in Scotland I hear you regarding the weather. I just got this to handle the waterproofing. Easy to use and packs up small when not in use.

I use my bag daily to carry laptop (Dell Precision M4600) plus tools and all my other gear for work, walking 4 miles each way. Bag handles the weight well and despite being heavy (due contents, bag itself is light) it is very comfortable. Loads of compartments to organise your gear too.

I looked all over at backpacks before settling on the Surge II. Other one which caught my eye was the Thule 32l Crossover but could not find an example in shop to view first hand.

I was initially sceptical about the Surge thinking it the best of a bad bunch however it has been rock solid and can't recommend it highly enough.

u/anachronic · 1 pointr/minimalism

I used to carry my stuff in a backpack when I worked in the city and took mass transit and walked a lot more.

This one looks pretty nice, and only $40

u/korgothwashere · 1 pointr/EDC

This looks more like the loadout of a bug out or get home bag to me and less of an EDC. That said, if you haven't gotten anything yet, I'd suggest a bag in the medium to large side rather than the medium small side.

5.11 Rush 24 looks like a good sized option for you. Even the 12 is slightly larger than the Tactical Tailor packs you've mentioned (they run about 1170.5ci versus the 1296ci of the Rush 12). The Rush 24 runs about 2070ci which is a bit more in line with a medium A.L.I.C.E Pack for reference.

I assume when you mentioned a 'generic Jansport backpack' you were referring to something like this bag which comes in at 1900ci according to specs. If that's the case, you should really be looking in the 2000ci area.

Of course you can add capacity with pouches, but you'd have to figure that in when your overall cost of the pack. Would be worth it to some, might not me to others.

The Blackhawk Phoenix back you mentioned in the comments previously runs at 2600ci so it may be bigger than you need or have the unintended consequence of prodding you into filling that space (which certainly adds weight).

Just something to consider. It looks like you're on the right track though and I hope to see an update soon!

This is why I decided to not go with KAKA Backpack for 17-Inch Laptops - Black. The majority of the reviews (especially with pictures) were listed as "I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review". It just seemed too good to be true, even if it was a great backpack it made me stay away.

I want a laptop backpack that can fit and protect my 17 inch laptop and other things well. I went expensive on the laptop and didn't get the warranty since it was stupidly priced ($700 for 2 years). So I want something that will protect it from most things.

I like this bag at the moment, but I was wondering if there's anything else you guys can recommend (max of $130). I'd preferably want a less expensive one, but if there's one just as expensive but better, please tell me. Also, some input on whether I should just go for the bag I'm looking at would be cool.

Thank you!!!!

I'm looking for something professional looking that can carry a laptop and document. I've been using an old college Jansport backpack, but it's pretty ratty, so I figured I should start looking to upgrade. Both briefcases and backpacks are fine, just as long as it's easy to carry and convenient. My price range is preferably under $200, but I'm willing to go over if necessary.

I live in West Texas and am working in oil, and I'm looking to fit in, so I want to keep that in mind as I'm looking. I've been using an old college Jansport backpack, but it's pretty ratty, so I figured I should start looking to upgrade.

Bags I've been looking at:

This bag at Jcrew seems like it fits the bill, but it's currently sold out

I like this style of backpack, but I want something at not a hot-pile-of-garbage price

If I was made of money, I would go for this Bertuli bag. I wouldn't suggest looking at the price, just doing that makes my wallet cry

Let me know what you think. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I use the SwissGear 17" Gray Notebook Backpack ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005TPVTHO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_cBlACbJNVGJVK ) and it is pretty decent. My only complaint is that it doesn't stand up by itself very well, particularly if you have tools in the front. I work as one of two SysAdmins who do a bit of just about everything, so I've always got a variety of tools, plus my laptop and other gear in my bag. For $117 I'd give it 3.5 to 4.0 stars. I am currently in the market for something different and this thread has been helpful! Thanks!

The size is adjustable, Currently I am often caryying one T450 and a L460 simultaneously in this monster of a backpack. So far no issues, handles the extra weight very well. Lots of additional space for more utilities.

I was recently deciding the same thing, and instead of a shoulder/messenger bag, I went with a full backpack which nicely stores my laptop (dedicated padded section) and has plenty of room for other travel necessities. It's on sale on Amazon now for a really decent price, little cheaper than I got it for in fact: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B000OZCDGK/ . Also quite comfortable, leaving me with both free hands.

If you're mainly using the bag to carry the laptop and have a separate suitcase/bag for the rest of your things, it's probably fine, but I couldn't imagine the shoulder strain after a while of using a messenger bag to carry my entire life around.

I purchased the Huawei MateBook X Pro. I did this simply because I wanted something light and portable. Although it doesn’t have the battery life that the Lenovo Think Pad does, the MateBook is very light, slim and portable. After a small amount of use, I can say that the build quality is great, and the keyboard is also nice and not that of the new Apple macs. Overall I believe I made a good purchase. If you are looking to get the Huawei MateBook X Pro and need a sleeve for it, this one off of amazon fits very nice and snug.

It fit the 17 R5 perfectly.

It's one of the greatest AW has made. The thing is heavy duty.

I had the Vindicator and it felt cheaper than my 5 year old backpack.

35 liters is a bit big for college life, I think. I just picked up at Timbuk2 Rogue (available for around $50) that is an admirable travel bag that will also be great for hauling books/laptop. The main downside is that's top-loading...but it's a tough, good looking pack at a really affordable price.

Patagonia Arbor Classic Pack 25L vs Timbuk2 Rogue

Which one should I get? For the Patagonia, only that particular colour is on sale. Not sure how versatile beige is. For the Timbuk2 there are other colour options at around the same price. Both end up being around the same price after tax and shipping, $94 for the Patagonia and $89 for the Timbuk2.

Gonna be using it for university. Carrying a laptop, binder, pencil case, stainless steel bottle, and other things.

I came to choose between these two because they were one of the few urban casual backpacks under $100 CAD.

I was looking for the same thing :) Great looking backpack. And indeed the other poster seems right, I looked up pelican and it seems to be the U100: https://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Storage-Backpack-Laptop-0U1000-0003-110/dp/B008K4PGX4

Just another option: http://www.amazon.com/Thule-Crossover-TCBP-217-Backpack-Ultrabooks/dp/B004XANKVO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382096059&sr=8-2&keywords=thule

I have a Dakine laptop backpack as well. I like the Dakine Terminal bag, but I much prefer this Thule model. I can fit more in it. I like the pocket layouts more on the Thule. It also has the nice 'crush-proof' pocket for sunglasses or whatever else you may like to put in there.

When I used to do a lot of overseas travel, I used a cheap single-strap backpack from Jansport that had a large velcro strap across-the-chest, and checked my TravelPro roll-on if I couldn't bring that on-board (smaller/bush planes). I traveled to Asia/Africa/Europe/ME with this setup, but mostly had a decent hotel as a home base in the capitol. I always made sure to pack an ammo-bag style shoulder daybag for sightseeing. Jansport actually replaced the single-strap twice under their lifetime warranty. Damage was mostly seams coming un-stitched, and the velcro pads coming un-stitched. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they sell this odel anymore. This is the closest I could find to the type I used to use (not Jansport)

Now that I mostly do domestic air travel, I use a slightly larger capacity carry-on backpack that can hold both a Wintel and a Macbook air (sometimes I travel with work-issued and personal), and enough space to pack a weekend's-worth of clothes. I also like to have lots of pockets for organizing/quick access. This is what I use now. I considered having a built-in USB charger, but with the requirement most airlines have to remove them - I just stuck with a separate charger and cable stowed in the side-pocket.

I just wish it had an alarm to warn me when I leave my Leatherman in the pack when I'm headed to the airport.

Thanks! She definitely knows how to win over hearts.

You can find the backpack here: Modoker Vintage Laptop Backpack... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073CNXM95?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They updated their style and look better now. Hard to beat for 30 bucks, and I've had no problems with it. Holds a lot of weight great!

I ride with this Belkin slim backpack. For short rides I take it on my back and for longer ones I tend to strap it on to this Blackburn rack. The backpack fits my macbook, change of clothes and still remains slim!

Something like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001586UI2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1406132266&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

I have one just like this but by case logic, think they stopped making it though. Search amazon for "slim laptop backpack" there's a bunch of other ones, shoot for the ones that hold 14.1-15.6" laptops

Recommendations for a bag for bike commuting to work? I need to be able to carry my 13 in macbook, a change of clothes, a pair of shoes and my lunch. A separate water bottle pocket is also important. I've been using an Eddie Bauer backpack and while it's a good size, it doesn't look professional. I work at a university and the backpack always gets me mistaken for a student. Price isn't really an issue. Options I'm considering: Thule backpack - still a backpack but looks sleeker. Or Timbuk2 messenger bag but I'm worried it won't be big enough.

Jansport Right Backpack

I've been using this for work for about a month now, and really like it. Holds laptop, cords, mouse and two regular 1" binders more than comfortably. I have a 15" laptop screen. Bigger laptops may not fit.

not sure if this is what you are looking for but someone suggested me this and it fits MBXP just about perfectly and i just slip this into my school back.

A quick, cheap bag with dedicated through loops for a U-Lock that I switched to from a Chrome bag;

The amazon basic backpacks are surprisingly nice. There are a lot of options on amazon that fit into your budget. I like being able to carry two laptops, over ear headset, game controller, cables, tablet and also carry on items, so I'd go with something large like the Swiss or Targus II

I went through this same dilemma, and finally settled on a medium sized Everki backpack. Not really because of the size of my MacBook, but more so the other stuff I always end up taking with me on business trips. The Everki Atlas could easily fit my MacBook and all my gadgets I end up taking on business trips, so I went with that one. I picked up a used like new one from Amazon and couldn't be happier.

I use this to do exactly what you're asking about. I've got a 15" laptop and my 12" Chromebook and I travel with both, along with a power cord, USB charger, and a shirt and jeans. This bagfits that all and has a slim profile so it isn't bulky.

If you're open to a backpack... It may not be stylish, but man this thing is heavy duty.

I purchased this. It's durable. The handle has a steel cable. It handles my mammoth desktop replacement laptop, it's massive power brick, and chromebook and it's charger with plenty of room to spare. I have hard drives, power cords, tool kits all in there without issue. It's fully padded and is easy to carry on the back.

u/TangoTeacher · 1 pointr/MatebookXPro

bought this for $7.99 from Amazon. Even though they say the size doesn't fit, it actually fits perfectly. Slips right in, like a glove.

I second the everki packs. Top quality, and relatively low key. I can fit my 15 r3. 13"hp a tablet and my headphones, elite controller and everything I need to take my gaming on the go. Highly recommend!

I chose this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ERJG842/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492734369&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=everki+atlas&dpPl=1&dpID=41aI8WRsJyL&ref=plSrch

I use pelicans U100 backpack and it's absolutely worth every penny, currently it holds a 15" mbp external hard drive, Ps Vita, cords for all of them, a mouse and I still haven't used half of the pockets. Extremely handy with its separate laptop compartment (closes with a latch rather then a zipper. Also having a pelican case built in it will take anything you can throw at it, 10/10 I recommend them to anyone, after all if your like me and spent $3100 on a laptop the extra $250 to keep it safe is well worth it

Timbuk2 on Amazon has some great bags... I just got a Parkside, which is smaller than what you want.

Try a Rouge or Spire

u/TomNJ · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I got a pretty sweet knockoff on Amazon that I love. Check it out.

u/cmn2207 · 0 pointsr/medicalschool

I have this and it's lasted more than 4 years without a scratch. Swiss Army builds resilient stuff. It's listed on Amazon as double the price I got it for some reason so I would hunt around for something less expensive than this but I definitely recommend Swiss Army and don't plan on ever replacing it.

I think this bag looks pretty nice. I, too, am looking for a nice bag for my new MacBook Air. I have an old fox bookbag that I love and want to replace it with something worthy. I also like this.

Didn't think of looking up specific hardware prices until you said this so here you go:

GTX 980M $340

i7-6700HQ $380

4K Display $200

32GB RAM $145

256GB NVMe SSD $103

1TB HDD $50

Backpack $75

Windows 10 $99

I pay for shipping, $0.

Total: $1392

I'll update my price to $1000.

When I was looking to post this a week ago I had a hard time finding how to price this since when I bought it I bought the upgraded version of it, so when I looked online I either saw worse models for less, and slightly better models for far more. I could never find one with my exact specs.

Lo and behold, the day before I post, someone puts up an Ebay bid for a slightly worse model at $800 + shipping, but when I look on Amazon I still see $1800, $1700, etc.

I saw as low as $700 for an Alienware 15 R2, and as high as $2100 for an Alienware 17 R3 but with a GTX 1080, and newer processor. I asked friends and their suggestions ranged from $1200-1900.

What would you say is the best approach for correctly valuing your tech? I'm just trying to find a fair price for both parties.
