OMG I've always said every character in The Walkding Dead is a moron!! Where are your spears!!?!?!?!? Those idiots are walking around with fucking hammers and pocket knives!! What kind of moron ever lets themselves get that close to a zombie?? I actually think if you had the time to work on something, you'd want sort of a half sword half spear so you could slash and poke like this thing:

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q76/wastjer/spit-600.jpg

A Halberd would work too.

http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/images/Product/large/600640.png

There were used by Pikemen in medieval battles and were very effective against mounted opponents.

EDIT: Good news!! Amazon sells Halberds!!!! Now I can be prepared!

Part of a Halloween costume my wife custom made for me a few years ago. Parents were confused, kids thought it was the coolest costume ever. The swords were just crossed on the mantle until they disappeared and came back mounted to this...

Besides jewelry material being a common cause for problems (I would advice implant grade materials and definitely not acrylic) and poor placement. Sleeping on piercings can definitely cause havoc. Even more so if you don’t downsize jewelry in a timely matter. One of the problems it can cause is tilting the angle it was originally pierced at to the point of it becoming impossible to heal.
For our teen, a travel pillow didn’t work either. We ended up doing some DIY, to make something like this There’s wrestling head gear that would work as well. It looks ridiculous, but it works great. Because not sleeping on piercings will have a major positive impact on the healing process.

Well in that case, i think the Death motif is far too common. Maybe something more assassin-y but also relatively unique. He could have bladed knuckled gloves and be a monk type rogue.

He could have spring loaded forearm blades ala bloodaryne:

u/khariel · 3 pointsr/bjj

I've had one identical to the one /u/scpDZA suggested, but didn't work too well for me.

Bought a Cliff Keen and even though it's more expensive, it was worth every penny. Never had a problem with cauli anymore.

u/snipes81 · 3 pointsr/bjj

I tested out several and settled on the Cliff Keen fusion headgear https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JUS3T4Q They are a nice balance between good ear protection and a soft outer layer which is helpful for your teammates.

I also tried, and still have, the Cliff Keen Tornado, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KEFWUE/ . Excellent protection, but the hard outer shell sticks out far and is somewhat like a cheese grater on your partner. Wrestling great, bjj not so much.

I also bought and immediately returned the matman, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006SBMZ9Y/ . The attached chin strap was a deal breaker. Not only did it not fit my big melon the attached chin strap means if it breaks it's tough to replace.

I have no problems hearing instruction or my partner when wearing them, but they are a PIA to wear and this is coming from someone who wrestled for many years. I put them on after warm ups or sometimes not until sparring depending on what we are working on. They have kept my cauliflower ear from coming back over the past year.

Best of luck.

I own about 3 pairs of these "cloth shin guards" and they really don't offer much protection. These shin guards are for light contact sparring like taekwondo or karate where they tell you to not go hard. If you throw it hard and hit someone's bones, you'll feel it. If you want to throw hard kicks, just get the full shin guards like TKB, Twins, Fairtex, etc.

As for the sizing for the cloth ones, S, M, L all are the same length and the difference is how much wider they are. I'm 6'0" 150 lbs, and I can wear a small all the way to a large. If you want to be safe, get a large since it should be quite snug once you wash and dry them.

Additional advice:
They usually aren't branded, and even if they are, don't get it branded because it's such a crap shinguard that you shouldn't spend 20 more dollars just because it has the words VENUM or something on them.

Generic (Pro Force):

VENUM:
https://www.amazon.com/Venum-Kontact-Instep-Guards-Black/dp/B008TM6LQ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465367667&sr=8-1&keywords=shin+guards+venum

u/squareknot20 · 2 pointsr/throwing

Hmm... that looks like a smaller version of what I used to throw, and the 6.5" size will definitely make it a big tricky to learn. Bigger knives are much easier. You can find a set of "screaming eagles" pretty cheap if you find you enjoy knife throwing after you get frustrated.
I'm not gonna try to explain a technique that's much better explained from a real source, but one thing that definitely helped me when I started was doing short (6-10" flippy throws, instead of adding-force-but-not-trying-to-send-the-thing-spinning-like-a-bat-out-of-hell throws like you'll pick up pretty easily =p), 1/2 flip throws, nice and close just to begin to learn how to feel for the correct flip.

Also, do not be tempted to spin the bloody thing on your finger. I almost slit my wrist open with kunai.. good luck!

(also since you have kunai, have you ever read the history behind the design? )

u/ketoismyfriend · 2 pointsr/bjj

I in a similar situation as you, I am pretty new to BJJ so I have a cheap 50$ gi my gym sells. But I have been eyeing https://www.amazon.com/Fuji-BJJ-Uniform-White-A3/dp/B00GIHVQBG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510337995&sr=8-3&keywords=fuji%2Bbjj%2Bgi&th=1&psc=1 for Christmas. I don't think it comes with a belt though.

Keto is great too, I have been a bit off the wagon recently but still loosing weight and feeling good so I am just going with it. I have been having 100 or less carbs a day and just lowering my fat a bit and its working for me, I think doing BJJ 3 times a week is what is driving that though.

Indeed, there are quite a few decent stainless steel display ones out there for like $50 bucks (that aren't useable) but at the same time you could also find some wicked budget swords for around that same price that may not look as good. If, however, you had the money and were looking into not only good looks but also good functionality, I would honestly have to recommend Albion swords. They're pricey as hell but literally some of the best you'll ever find. There are also some more less pricey yet still functional swords out there like ones made by Windlass or Hanwei. I would honestly reccomend just browsing Kult of Athena and making sure to select 'show battle ready only' and 'sort by lowest price'. Here's a couple more that are also pretty damn good that are more of choppers but are nevertheless good. My one recommendation if you're going to search for stuff is to look at reviews and to ALWAYS avoid Cold Steel.

Kubotans and Maglites are good options too. Some countries don't allow firearms or knives, and mace/pepper spray aren't ideal in all weather conditions. (Source: a friend's mace blew up in her car in the middle of a hot summer day.)

I think they're great shin guards and very comfortable. They don't have the slipping issue because they go over your leg almost like a sock, but because of this there's no way to wear shoes at the same time. They aren't very similar to what I've seen others use in class, which have more of a hard shell. These are moreso pads.

Steel Baton es lo mejor, son compactos y causan muchísimo daño, ademas de que da una distancia segura que evita ataques por arma blanca.

u/slimmathias · 1 pointr/throwing

Generally for knife throwing, bigger is better, the smaller ones tend bounce back randomly. With a larger, well-balanced knife you'll have a much easier time to consistently stick it. The no-spin technique is the easiest to learn quickly, just start close and work your way back. I personally use the Expendables Kunai Set, I kid you not. Not out of love for the movie, but because they're big well balanced blades.

I have one of these, they've raised the price on it since it's so well made. Full convex grind on 1075 steel, satin polished. I took it camping a few times and had so much fine lopping off branches.

u/Weemz · 1 pointr/bjj

Started getting them after about a year. Had a couple of painful blow-ups in my left ear that lasted a week or two, one got to the point where it was so painful and uncomfortable that I spoke to a nurse about draining them myself and how to safely go about it. I eventually decided against it.

Since my wife and profession are not big fans of me having messed up ears, I've picked up a pair of these, and they're great—comfy, easy to clean and dry, don't interfere with rolling; the only downside being they make it slightly hard to hear.

As of now, the spots that blew up have become like rock-hard little plates in my ear, don't know how else to describe it. There is no longer any pain and when I compete I don't wear the headgear and have yet to see those spots become an issue.

As, others have mentioned, a lot of it is genetic. I got them after a year, we have a D1 wrestler who trains/coaches with us and he has never gotten them.

u/DrDOS · 1 pointr/bjj

Yeah. I mostly agree, seems gimmicky and if used instead of head protection, might make your ears feel like they are being ripped off :P

I have had cauliflower ear, ignored the warning signs of discomfort and was stupid. It quickly became so big it impeded my hearing, so I went to the doctor, I have insurance but it still cost about 200$ to get it drained and stitched up iirc (besides that my wife threatened me if I didn't go ;). We had tried draining it before the doc but it was too difficult to maintain the right compression. I could see this product possibly serving the compression purpose and saving you some money and perhaps down time.

Now I have these:
Cliff Keen Fusion Headgear... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JUS3T4Q?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I put them on whenever I have any discomfort or when I'm competing. They are the best I'd found that fit my big head and ears, let me hear decently through them, aren't crazy hot, stay on well, and won't injure my opponent. Most of the time training, I don't wear them, I don't like to wear them because they are still hot and I don't want to build bad habits that rely on them. I just try to be careful and avoid especially risky situations for cauliflower, use alternative escapes, tap, etc.

ive been playing with throwing knives since i was a little kid. sometimes for laughs, my wife will toss things (old cd cases usually) in front of one of my targets and ill pin them to the targets. the kiddos always seem to get a kick out of it. i consider my knives toys. however if used correctly and with proper skill/training, they are very very deadly. personally, anything less than about 1ft for a throwing knife tells me that it doesnt have enough mass to carry the force im going to put into it. the smaller knives just plain dont penetrate enough. the ones i usually play with are fantastic. they easily go about 3 inches through a 2inch plywood sheet. i dont use traditional targets, i use asheet of plywood with an outline of a person with a map of the human circulatory system on it. something like this generally 1 puncture will not be enough to kill, but i suspect that somebody with a large knife sticking out of them, bleeding heavily will probably stop to reevaluate their priorities. 2 blades in any of thoes arteries at the same time, and a person starts leaking like a busted milk jug. when i practice with them, i generally keep 2 or 3 in my left hand that i can easily fan out for blocking and 1 in my right hand that i can strike with, putting 1 finger in the ring and holding it point down lets you use it traditional knife fighter style or swing it by the 1 finger with pretty surprising force. (about 2 inches deep into plywood) if you have a target at distance, you can easily tip the knife up and throw it, then grab another from your left hand to replace it. its alot faster and easier than you might think. the true flight knife that sonoflavey mentioned also looks decent, but ive practiced with screwdrivers before. pretty much anything with a little weight and a point works. in self defense terms, any heavyish aerodynamic piece of metal thrown hard enough is a fair deterrent and theyre just fun to play with. if you are going to play with them, why not play with them in a manner than makes them potentially useful? that said, since getting my concealed handguns licence, i much much prefer my .45, and the knives are pretty much just for fun.

Cool, I have the exact same Elucidator in my room right now as OP :) If anyone is wondering I ordered mine from here.

They are great quality, and look really good too. The unfortunate thing is that the steel isn't high enough quality to really be sharpened much. I took mine to a professional who was able to put a slight edge on it - it's not much sharper than a butterknife aside from the tip which is extremely sharp - but I still think it looks a lot better with the edge at least!

Thanks a lot for the info, I did a bit of research and it still seems that gil hibben set would be the best for me. I'd prefer to keep the set under 50$, it doesnt have any guards on it or anything, and all the reviews are great. Is there anything wrong with it?

EDIT: I also found these, are they any good? 12 inches, no guards, theres a bit of grip but that can't make much of a difference.

I bought it because it looks like an engaging exercise tool, weightlifting is getting boring and I don't see myself getting into tai chi or yoga.

I've only had it about a day and I already enjoy it so I may spend money down the road on a higher-end sword.

u/flanl · 0 pointsr/SWORDS

$35 and everyone loves it.

I don't own it, but I've seen it in vidyas, and it's on my to-buy list. It's usually priced at $60.

-----
EDIT:

I just saw this Amazon comment:

>I first ordered this in early June and liked the sword so much, I ordered another just to have around in case I damaged the first one.

>The second one I recieved was completely different from the first: I don't even think it's from the same manufacturer. It's definitely not the sword shown in the picture and it's no where near as nice as the first is.

>I suspect the seller ran out of the original sword that everyone was giving positive reviews and decided to ride the gravy train by quietly switching to a different sword.

>EDIT: I've added an image of the two side-by-side to show some of the differences.

It might be wiser to pony up $60 to True Swords, which is a very reputable seller.
