I used to run with music, but then I used this. You can still buy them and they are not expensive.

u/nowitsataw · 13 pointsr/scuba

Yeah, these other posters are wrong. My iPod is good to 200ft. Just pop out the earbuds for ascending/descent. Link to product: https://www.amazon.com/AudioFlood-Waterproof-Apple-Shuffle-Headphones/dp/B0087RPKHG

I've had it blasting at 160fsw. Spearfishing is somewhat better when done to appropriate music. Battle music, you know?

u/AcidCH · 7 pointsr/audiophile

I don't know about the clipzip but I use a Cowon X9. It's interface is a bit clunky and takes time to learn but it's really handy and has the best battery life of any music device I've ever used.

If you do end up getting it - You can play all songs (instead of say, playing by artist or album) and do shuffle/loop. Took me a few tries to figure that out. Also if you use one, a micro SD can't be quick-formatted otherwise it is not recognised by the X9. Needs to be regular format FAT32.

Oh and it can only play FLAC files of 44.1kHz sample rate. It crashes if it plays a file of 48kHz. Once you figure out the little tricks to this device it starts to feel like a god-send.

u/Nichotine · 6 pointsr/LetsTalkMusic

I have a Fiio as well, and I would also recommend you make folders for every letter of the alphabet (so "A -> Artist -> Album") just so it's all the more easier to get to where you're going.

I like the Fiio a lot, it feels very solid, and looks cool, but since my iPod Classic died I've decreed that the idea of walking around with something so precious out in public is a too good to be true concept and I do not take my Fiio out of the house unless I'm on a trip or have some emergency. The death of my Classic was a landmark dark day in my life. Also, the Fiio is quite the big and clunky thing to be walking about with anyways so it's basically a miniature stereo for me for when I'm home and that's about it.

For when I'm out and about I have a 16 gig Sony Walkman which is a far cry from the Classic, you can't play it and charge it at the same time, freezes from time to time, but it's cheap, does what I need it to do for the most part and not the end of the world if it dies on me. I agree that the Classic was an untouchable thing and it's too bad there isn't a stronger market for strictly music-centric players. Even when the Classic was hot no one seemed interested in trying to take it on.

u/MarcinOrlowski · 5 pointsr/Swimming

I use Pyle Flextreme 4GB https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Player-Swim-Headphone-Built/dp/B015R34PHS - I used to have 8GB version but I figured out it makes no sense for me. My swimming sessions are usually up to 1 hour and 4GB fits so many tracks (avg. 1 hour mix is 100-120MB so 1GB fits 8-10 tracks) that I still got at least half of current storage free even I do not rotate tracks for very long time nor I got bored with the tracks I have on the device. If I could have even smaller version (say 1GB, for $15) I'd go for that instead when shopping w/o doubts.

u/Chroko · 5 pointsr/linux

Then sell your Zune on Gazelle.com - and to either buy something that syncs with Linux, or just sit it out until you get a new phone.

(Perhaps a Cowon S9 or J3 would be to your liking?)

You're going to have to make some sort of compromise here.

u/MagneticGray · 4 pointsr/jailbreak

Sony has stayed at the top of the portable audio industry for like the past 40 years.
They still make some of the best Hi-Res portable media players with super high quality DACs/headphone amps that range from $180 all the way up to $3k+.

They also recently developed LDAC to go along with their portable players, which is arguably the highest quality Bluetooth codec available right now. It actually allows all but the highest tier lossless audio formats to playback via bluetooth without quality loss. Very few headphones can actually receive LDAC yet (most of those that can are made by Sony of course) but you can get pretty affordable bluetooth receivers, like the FiiO BTR3, that will give any wired pair of headphones the capability to use ultra high bandwidth/low latency bluetooth.

u/darchangel · 4 pointsr/audiobooks

Craigslist for my area has several $40 and cheaper items. I did some searches for ipod touch, iphone, android, and mp3

Here's a new player for $30 which I found in this article

u/brianwc · 4 pointsr/gadgets

Neither. If you've got at least $150 burning a hole in your pocket, then buy two of the SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8 GB Video MP3 Players for $70 each and give one to a friend!

u/gammaohfivetwo · 3 pointsr/techsupportgore

This one. It's by a Chinese company, but so far it hasn't given me any problems that are too major.

u/nwagers · 3 pointsr/AppalachianTrail

I'm taking almost the same one, the Clip Sport: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HCMZ0OK/ref=pe_385040_127541850_TE_item

ok, I can totally understand wanting to eliminate the distraction during a run... what if you got the Garmin that you were looking at, but then also picked up a small mp3 player or mp3 headphones to store your book?

Hey FFA! So at work every year, I participate in the Holiday Wish Drive, where you give gifts to underserved kids in the area. Mine is a 15 year old girl who only wants an MP3 Player. I have two questions about this:

  1. I found a Sony 4GB Walkman MP3 player on Amazon, and it looks decent and is in the right price range (well, technically it is too expensive because the upper limit should be $40, but I also don't want to get her crap). Does anybody have any better MP3 player recommendations for $50 or less?

  2. I'd also love to preload some music onto the MP3 player for her, since it can be expensive to buy songs when you are a kid. I'm a 28 year old who is really only into EDM, so I'm not sure what the kids these days like. I was thinking the latest Beyonce album for sure, and I have some of the Twilight soundtracks, but any idea what other music a 15 year old might be into?

When my sister suggested I start swimming with her at the rec center in front of PEOPLE I nearly died. There was NO WAY I was going to walk my 340lb body with all my fat showing in a bathing suit for the whole world to see, and like you I hadn't swam in probably 15 years. However, being the wonderful, if a little bossy person she is she coaxed me into it and I do not regret it for one single second. And to be honest there was a whole bunch of people there just like me. Sure there were some lean gorgeous fit people around too, but they didn't pay me any attention and NO ONE made fun of me or laughed at me which was my biggest fear. ( teenagers are my biggest phobia by the way ).

To begin with, see if you can find a local pool that offers "lane swimming". Lane swimming sessions will be filled with people who, like you, are there to work out and you will likely have very few if any kids messing around. Indoor is best so you can do it year round but if you also have an outdoor option that you can use in the summer that's great. BRING SUNBLOCK if you do.

The pool I frequent even has different lanes for different ability levels. It felt great to move from the "slow / stationary" lane into medium!

For me, I started out with the goal to get from one end of the 25 yard pool to the other by any means necessary, and BOY was it hard. I dog paddled, breast stroked, side stroked, floated and walked when I could reach the bottom and once I got to the other end I rested and got my breath. Then I turned around and did it again going in the other direction.

After I started to gain some endurance, ( took a few days ) I would do 1 lap side stroke on each side, 1 lap breast stroke, then I worked up to adding 1 lap free style. Free style ( aka front crawl ) was the one I found the hardest and would need a minute or two to recover from that.

The next thing I did was increase the number of continuous laps I would swim before stopping to catch my breath. At first it was just two laps then stop, next it was 3 and so on. I am now up to doing 4 sets of 9 laps ( 3 freestyle, 3 backstroke, 3 freestyle ) which ends up taking about 45 minutes to an hour.

Honestly I don't know if this is the right way to go about it and you could go to Swimplan.com for some interesting ( if a little weird at least to me ), swim sessions. All I know is that today I was able to walk almost 4km and even felt like I could have gone farther if I'd really wanted to, and the only exercising I've done up till now is swimming.

A couple of helpful tips:

  • Wear goggles. They're not that expensive and you will be grateful for them. The chlorine in public pools is brutal.

  • Wear a swim cap. Again, the chlorine will eat your hair. Another little trick is to leave conditioner in your hair before going to the pool.

  • Get a waterproof MP3 player. Getting this for me was AMAZING! I picked up this one. I plan to get better earphones, likely "Swimbuds" but these are not bad at all and the music makes the time fly.

  • If you don't get an mp3 player and don't want to use a swim cap at least use earplugs. Swimmer's ear really sucks, I learned this the hard way.

  • Take care of your bathing suit. Make sure you rinse it out well after you swim as the chlorine will really wreck it and you'll be buying new ones pretty regularly otherwise.

Wow this turned out way longer than I'd planned LOL.
Ultimately, don't worry about what people will say about you or how you look. Don't worry if you haven't swam in forever, it will come back to you, and if not, watch you tube videos, there's lots. Don't worry if you can't barely make it to the other end the first time you try. It DOES get better, and it happens really quickly.

I'd love to hear back about how it goes for you!
u/Wolf_Hook · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

I wear in ear headphones these Sony's specifically since the housing is so small. Also I use the largest in ear adapter, I found the trick with in ear headphones is to say you want to insert the left phone, reach over your head with your right hand and pull up on the top of your ear to really open the canal up then insert the bud and left go of your ear. I do ride with my music pretty much turned all the way up, but when I start to lane split or get near a lot of traffic I just reach down and hit pause. Here is an example of how I use the headphones.

*edit: I use them with a Sansa Clip Zip which is just about as small as a ipod nano.

u/xakh · 2 pointsr/Pareidolia

Just saying, the Clip Zip and e200 both also run RockBox very well, from my experience with the E200, Clip+, and Zip. The E200 is the best supported by the community, followed by the +, and finally the Zip. The displays are better on both I've listed, a decent bit more readable quickly than the + for quick glances. Also, while possibly not as important for you, Doom (Or FreeDoom, both are preloaded by default) plays phenomenally well on the E200, alright on the Zip, and awfully on the +. Yes, I've tried on all three, and the + is an interesting exercise in frustration, given its 64x128 px 25% yellow 75% blue LCD.

u/TooSmalley · 2 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

In my experience the iPod classic was sill the best one out there. All the new ones are kind of janky from my experience.

If I was you I’d think aboutupgrading the harddrive and replacing the battery, that alone could add a few years to a the iPod classic.

There is a market for high end lossless/flac mp3 devices like this and this if that’s more your speed

Also if you want worth mentioning the aftermarket for iPod touches are huge if you want a device with slightly more functionality

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8 GB Video MP3 Player

Creative Zen Mozaic 16 GB MP3 Player

i could look up a few more if those aren't satisfactory, but the reviews look ok at and i dont think either is more than $60

u/bsod666rrod · 2 pointsr/audiophile

From my experience, I love the Sansa's. Such as the Clip+, the Fuze and the one I have bought several times (Because I keep putting it through the washer somehow) the Fuze+.

The Pros:

  • Does not require iTunes/Sync software (Can just transfer the files over like a standard storage medium)

  • Plays pretty much every format of music

  • Expandable storage via MicroSD

  • I believe most are compatible with Rockbox

    The Cons:

  • Feels cheap, really light (Plastics)

  • The Fuze+ has (from my experience anyway) a really frustrating touchpad.

Just for the record, I can't say much about the Clip+ or the Fuze being that I haven't used them, I have just heard really nice things about them.

    I hope that this helps!
u/kinganthony3 · 2 pointsr/Fitness

Sandisk Clip Sport. It's around 30 bucks for the 4GB edition and has microSD expansion. And if you break it, who cares it was only 30 dollars.

It has FM radio, stopwatch, supports pretty much all music formats (mp3, aac, flac, and some others). It's very small and portable, just clip it to your shirt. Very good battery life too.

I've been very happy with mine :)

u/skryerx · 2 pointsr/iphone

You can always try to find a iPod Classic to load music on, or possiably http://www.apple.com/shop/buy-ipod/ipod-shuffle.

I was going to suggest an iPod Nano but those have bluetooth. You can also find a ton of mp3 players on amazon that should fit your needs.

edit: It looks like this will also work if you want a bit more space than a shuffle.

u/ficciones · 2 pointsr/conspiracy

For just about any product on Amazon, you will find one star reviews by barely literate idiots who are complaining that shipping was slow or they don't understand 9 volt batteries.

Here are some one star iPod reviews. I like the lady whose iPod was water damaged. She talks about her cat playing with it. But it's all Apple's fault.

u/bitflag · 2 pointsr/france

I have these. Amazing sound for the price you are paying and the durability is unreal.

There are plenty from companies like FiiO, Astell&Kern, Onkyo and Sony. The price for a decent DAP ranges from $100 to $400, the crazy ones go far beyond that.

Hello guys,

I have been a very low profile listener of music, mostly mp3s or youtube . Plus, I use cheap 15$ headphones, I just listen to music when I walk/run or I am on public transport. I realized I need a change fast.

I considered FiiO M3K
https://www.amazon.de/FiiO-M3K-mobiler-High-Res-Player/dp/B07GPPC7BS/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?keywords=fiio+case&qid=1566668593&s=gateway&sr=8-2-fkmr0 as it frees me from using phone + enables higher quality formats and seems like a good deal.

I am now looking for a good quality headphone in ear, preferably with cord. Any Idea for a good combo? My overall budget could be around 150$ .

Simply put, I'd like to have a blast listening to good quality music. I am preparing for new TOOL album and I need to get ready fast :)

Please consider that until 2 days ago I knew nothing and I am just trying to catch up with this argument. As such, I am happy to hear any general good advice as well as alternatives to the FiiO or whatever you feel like suggesting.

Thanks for your attention and help :)

It does everything you're asking for plus great batter life. 50 bookmarks. Cheaper than you can find sansa stuff.

Amazon seems to have a few and this one, while pricey, gets decent reviews. good luck.

iBasso recently released the DX80 with a much improved UI that you could consider.

Other than that at this price you're looking at that or Fiio X5 2nd gen or a really good deal/2nd hand AK Junior. For the latter there's brand new one on sale at amazon at $400

I have to add that these have amps that will drive things better than your phone, but dont expect dedicated amp quality and power from these.

u/bobbyturkelino · 1 pointr/VictoriaBC

One important thing to consider is that you also need a waterproof music player, as well as the headphones.

u/DoYouEvenThroCodeBro · 1 pointr/running

I use a cheap SanDisk MP3 player and it has been awesome. Lightweight, affordable, and I don't worry about losing or breaking it. The user interface kind of sucks but it gets the job done. I just need music, afterall.

Also the swimp3 is awesome.

It doesn't get better than Cowon. The J3 is also a great device and little more comfortable to carry in your pocket to me.

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to this so I hope i'm not sounding too dumb. I inherited an old hifi system. It has several components including a Dual CV 1260 and a pair of these speakers I could not identify. My audio collection mainly consists of CDs and some flacs on a Sony NW-A45.

My question is : Can I use the bluetooth function of the walkman through something like this bluetooth receiver to connect to the amp and play my music, or do i need Jack to RCA cables and use it that way ?

Thanks in advance for answers

Aren't those headphones stopping you from equalising?

u/doniem · 1 pointr/audible

I use the Sansa clip sport. It's the only MP3 player I'm aware of that has an audiobooks feature for keeping your place in a chapter. It works great for regular audiobooks. I'm not sure about audible but I'd be surprised if it works with it.

SanDisk Clip Sport 4 GB MP3 Player - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HCMZ0OK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YDRizbZ7A8MJK

There's also a slot for an SD card and there is an armband available for carrying it but to be honest it's so small you can just clip it to your t-shirt and you would never know it's there.

u/Jordo_99 · 1 pointr/running

I've used the JLAB GO headphones for lap swimming, cycling and running for years and they work pretty well...except for the charging cable being proprietary.

This is almost identical and has the same cable frustration...you can get a replacement off ebay for around $10-15 but otherwise you are forced into buying another pair of headphones if you lose the cable.

https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Player-Swim-Headphone-Built/dp/B015R34PHS/

The only reason I don't still use them regularly is that I've started listening to audiobooks which they often require me to carry my phone (and these can't be connected to a phone).

u/the_blue_wizard · 1 pointr/audio

I'm still completely baffled by AM/FM radio, a Receiver can not be traced, at least not in the conventional sense.

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sport-Player-Screen-MicroSDHC/dp/B00N56U4WU

You might be able to determine that an AM/FM oscillator is running, but it can not be separated from all the other FM receivers, and it can't be tracked as it moves. Neither can it specifically be identified. A Cell Phone can be identified as belonging to a specific person, though the can't determine what person is holding it. But not FM radio.

In this sense it can NOT be tracked the way a FitBit or Cell Phone can be tracked.

I think they should explain to you how an FM Radio is a Security Risk.

I own a similar product called a Swimp3. It doesn't use headphones at all, and I've never had problems with it staying on.

The only downside is that this device only uses MP3 files, and it can be a hassle converting your AAC songs from itunes.

u/ACFan120 · 1 pointr/homestuck

I actually don't have iTunes; in fact I uninstalled Quicktime since I stopped using it. Who knows what that'd do to my already poor system. MY MP3 player is a walkman brand, though to be specific, this. I deleted a bunch of stuff off of it, so I might get Volume 7.

u/JeromeZilcher · 1 pointr/lgv20

> shanling m0 instead as that's cheaper

Good tip! Looks interesting! Supports 512GB microSDXC cards, gapless playback, 9-15 hr battery life and has a 1.54” touch screen.

But the V20 also has an edge, e.g. with Neutron (with support for the V20's DAC and also gapless playback). Also the big screen and a removable battery and the extended battery option separates it from these smaller, compact devices.

Where the V20 really shines is as video media player, through its capability to provide high-end headphone sound while sending the image over Slimport/HDMI to a FullHD or 4K screen. That is a combination that you cannot find in many devices, tablets, notebooks or smartphones.

u/pachydermusrex · 1 pointr/gadgets
