so I ordered mine from a company, Anley , on Amazon and custom ordered a flag with that image and another one on the back side (you can have two images per flag) but it was from China and I placed my order August 10 and received it in WA on the 26th and that was with standard shipping. Online it says expected delivery date was going to be in September so YMMV. Also I heard from some people that the seller emails you back with questions regarding the resolution of the image but I he didn't message me so again YMMV

We did 2 things - we added UV reflective stickers like this. We also added bird feeders that suction to the window like this. It helped, but hasn't completely resolved it. Plants should also help slow them down. Finally, I went to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary not too long ago and they have installed these things that they really like and have prevented a lot of deaths. Cheap and easy to DIY - so we may try that next year.

I haven’t gotten anything from them, but this is the cheapest custom flag I can find. And it’s amazon so if it’s shitty you can probably return it.

u/DragonTamerMCT · 5 pointsr/funny

Yeah my yard is too large for anything to really be effective, eventually I just kept the dogs outside longer which scares the cat away. Still an issue with the front yard which I've mostly given up on. Just sprinkle whatever the cat dislikes on your flowers or whatever you have in front.

Putting foil on the top of your fence might help, as cats tend to hate it. But it's not gonna look that nice.

The cat also scaled a brick wall like it was nothing (to get at a birds nest I had been nurturing, which pissed me off more than the cat poo)

I just don't have the time to really fight the cat to keep it out of my yard, but there's plenty of tip online that might help you :)

In the end I settled on Cat spikes on the brick to keep the cat away (not those specifically). Guess I'll just have to live the shit :(

Top budget thermostat

jumpstart

and most popular light dimmer switch

https://www.amazon.com/Lutron-TT-300H-WH-Electronics-Plug-Dimmer/dp/B0000BYEF6

Jumpstart is best for the UTH (under tank heater) and dimmer works well for the overhead heat to control the temp. ceramic heat emitters (CHE) are recommended as they do not produce light at all and can be kept on 24/7

Both need thermometers or IR temp gun to verify surface temperature.

Excellent temp and humidity sensor. External probe goes in tank and is wireless

Get rid of that stick on thermometer. Once your snake gets big enough it will rip that right off

it is Very cheap and they have excellent customer service. You can just simply place the order there and send the design you want to put on the flag , they will do everything for.

by the way, you can get more than 30% off if you use this code: WKT3KT3P , that means you only need pay $9.95, this code will be expired on 30th Sep, and if you order more than 5, you can use this code :CUSTOM20P, you will get 20% off . Hope I answer your question.

I second the extension cords idea. The water dish will pull a mere 1/4 amp of current and even several cords will be fine.

(even if you are conservative, 100' of 16-gauge extension cord is good for 5 amps, 12-gauge is 10 amps)

amazon also recommended this watertight cord connector, so others are doing similar things.

u/Vanilla_cake_mix · 3 pointsr/ballpython

I have multiples of this and love it. Takes a bit to acclimate but ends up accurate. Best thing is the readout is not in the enclosure like those acurites people keep using that are not designed to go into humid environments.

PSA: The recommended pump is filled with vegetable oil. The seal will fail and coat whatever you're "cleaning" with oil that is a lot harder to remove than one would think. I was using it to wash bottles and came back to a tub filled with a cloudy, rancid smelling water. The tub still has an oil sheen in it after cleaning it numerous times, I ended up throwing the bottles out.

I now use a 1000 GPH fountain pump, it's not as powerful but it still works great.

My list for mobile/portable operating would look something like this...

For a man portable setup I could carry in a pack, the highest capacity LiFePO4 battery I could afford.

Otherwise, if I'm driving out to a fixed operating site, then the biggest AGM deep cycle battery I would care to lug from the car a short distance to the operating site.

A lightweight computer with good battery life so I don't have to worry about external power for it out in the field. I'm not really a Mac guy, but I'd probably bring my Macbook Pro for this task.

The TS-480 doesn't require a Signalink/Rigblaster type interface for digital operation, but you will need the following items to interface to your computer...

  • USB to serial converter. Don't buy the Prolific chipset garbage, save yourself the frustration and spend the few bucks for something with an FTDI chipset.

  • Kenwood PG-5H data cable set. You can also make this if you want, Your TS-480 should have shipped with a plastic baggie with the connectors in it to make this (pinouts are detailed towards the back of the manual). Or, you can get them on ebay. I bought mine mainly because hate soldering stuff to DIN connector pins.

  • Serial cable, straight through, female ends. Cheap and readily avaialble.

  • If the laptop you're using doesn't have separate speaker out/mic in jacks, then a cheap USB audio adapter.

The filters aren't truly necessary and the unit is pretty frequency stable without the TCXO, but they sure are nice to have. If you were going to put a filter in it, I would recommend the 500Hz CW filter. It comes in handy when you're trying to zero in on a particular signal or block adjacent strong signals. The DSP filtering is generally adequate, but a strong enough signal is going to swamp the AGC and that's when the crystal filters come in handy to notch that out.

If you do get the TCXO, don't waste $110 on the Kenwood SO-3. The cheap Chinese TCXO's work just as well and can be had for much cheaper. I got mine from ebay for 20 bucks or so, but now you can even get them on Amazon with Prime shipping and everything.

Antenna choice is highly variable. Out here in the deserts of New Mexico, you don't find much in the way of trees, so a wire antenna deployed up into a tree is out and a self supporting vertical is in. I generally pack an MFJ 1979 telescoping vertical whip with a clamping antenna mount or a collapsable fiberglass pole that I can hoist up a length of wire with. Your own situation, available terrain, bands you want to work are going to be the determining factors here.

This page has some useful notice on power draw of the TS-480 with some operating scenarios and battery sizing options. A lightweight, power sipping QRP rig the TS-480 is not, but it's still very usable for portable operations.

Made the design (my roommate helped me) in Photoshop and then bought a custom design flag from Amazon where you send them the design and they'll make it.

You have to ask for the four holes without the white border though.

Might make an Asuka flag as well.

edit: The quality is really good, it'll take about 2 weeks or so to arrive.

https://www.amazon.com/Active-Aqua-Submersible-Water-Pump/dp/B002JPGE6S/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&ref=yo_pop_d_pd_t2

As long as it's strong enough to pump water to your tank it should be fine. Stronger will of course be better for speed and getting water there. I happened to have first one because I had to replace it with second as it was too strong to use as part of my filter.

u/brinebold · 2 pointsr/Frugal

You will need to buy a vacuum too and vacuum before you use the carpet cleaner. The machine could be used as a vacuum since it does have some suction but it's a really bad one. Different brushes are for different purposes. The 6 round spinning type brushes in good scrubbers are great for scrubbing carpet deeply but do a crappy job of lifting surface dirt toward the suction. The scrubbers rely on the water flow and detergent to dissolve the dirt instead of air suction to just lift it.

PS: Look for a vacuum with a really long power cord or find something like one of these cord protectors to let you attach a 20-30' extension cords to the vacuum without worrying about them coming unplugged. It's worth the money not to have to try to deal with a residential 12' cord on your vacuum. You may have to order a vacuum if you prefer the longer cord built in.

$20 and it saves you worrying. As I mentioned above, I have found many other uses for that little pump after I switched to a ferm chamber.

u/GryphonEDM · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

Yup, 30 mins on/off works for me, for the first 24hrs I leave the pump on constantly though to help them deal with being cut off from the mother's life support.

This is the timer I use for cycles:

u/mildsamosa · 2 pointsr/birdwatching

We have 2 of these window mounted bird feeders and we love them!

https://www.amazon.com/Aspects-ASP155-Window-Feeder-Variety/dp/B000CSJ1VE

It takes a while for the birds to notice them but once they start coming it's amazing. You can enjoy the birds from your sofa.

We use safflower seed that doesn't attract squirrels. The bottom part slides out easily to refill without having to remount the suction cups.

Good luck!

u/MrBabyHands · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

If the water had to be replenished daily I would just shoot myself, or I guess grow in soil. Like the others said: change every 7-10 days, top off as needed, keep pH ideally at 5.8.

For pumping water out, I use a more heavy duty pump because those siphon pumps are sooooo slow.

I use this one and it can change a 10 gallon reseviour 2-3 minutes

u/sethben · 2 pointsr/birding

I'd recommend:

  1. One that has drainage holes on the bottom, and

  2. The part that holds the seeds is removable to make it easier to clean and refill without having to unstick and restick the suction cups every time. i.e. the whole thing should NOT be one solid piece.

Also, the bigger the 'roof', the better for keeping the seed dry.

I've had this one for ~5–6 years; it's still in good shape and I'm still happy with it. But any that meet the above requirements should be good.
u/MrMalamat · 2 pointsr/aquaponics

Start with the size fish tank you want. This rearing tank is sized as a function of your stocking density and/or the amount of lettuce you'd like to grow. The tank water should be fully exchanged at least once per hour. A pump with a 2" outlet would be something akin to a pool pump and moving water at somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 gph. A 0.5 hp pump is what's used in a full-scale UVI system. Is that how much you want to up your game? Otherwise, a small centrifugal pump like the one I use runs at about 90 W and has operated continuously for years, but I think my new system will need something twice this size.

Exactly this, and yes, it was wasteful given the expense but not too terrible and it's cutting down the time to clean all three tap lines by probably 80% (and a lot less hands on time!). Here's the basic parts list to build a bucket like this:

  • 2x 5 Gal buckets with lids (one for res, one for light top.) More buckets for spacers. (check your home improvement store of choice.)
  • A big roll of black duct tape. This
  • A roll of FlexFix tape. This
  • A couple of space blankets. This
  • A can of 3M spray adhesive. This is the good stuff
  • 5x light sockets with plug ends. These
  • 5x Philips SlimStyle LED "75w" 2700k. These
  • Some heatshrink tubing. Looks good
  • Some lamp cord and hookup wire. This, And This
  • A roll of flux/rosin core solder. Your Choice, this looks okay
  • An airpump. This one is awesome, This will do
  • Some airstones. [This] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002JLA83C/)
  • A distribution manifold. At least a 3 way
  • Some air lines. This, Or This
  • A length of 3/4" pvc pipe and a plug (check your home improvement store of choice).
  • A water dripper system. [This] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002JAY6E/)
  • Either a netpot and a bucket lid with a hole cut in it OR a premade netpot/bucket lid. This if you want to save some work
  • Some PC fans. [These are nice and cheap] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NTUJZ36/)
  • A PSU to run the fans and LED strip side lights you might add on spacers. This. It's 80+ at least. I had a few extra PSUs around. I wouldn't use one that isn't at least 80+ since it will be running 24/7.

Lots of this stuff can be had cheaper at a home improvement or pet store. Check around. You'll need a soldering iron (I like my adjustable 40w), a drill and drill bits up to 3/4" (I like step bits for work on plastic), a heatgun or lighter to shrink that heatshrink tubing. An infrared thermometer is nice to have and can tell you the temp of your nutrients, the plant itself, your lights, etc...Just make sure to calibrate it first, all the cheap ones are inaccurate by at least a few degrees.
