First, congratulations on the set up, sounds very cool.

I've never built with that particular Thermaltake case, but from my understanding the 3 fans it comes with have a proprietary cable that plug into a special controller. Basically, most normal case fans have a 3or 4-pin cable that plugs into a corresponding fan header on the motherboard, and the motherboard is then able to control the fans (Asus's AI suite in your situation). RGB lighting is a separate 3 or 4-pin cable that plugs into special RGB headers on the motherboard too.

The fans that come with that Thermaltake case have both power and RGB combined into one proprietary 5-pin cable. This only plugs into the built-in fan/RGB controller in the case. I don't think it will plug into anything else, such as a motherboard. So the controller (and by extension the ThermalTake case) control both fan speed and RGB lighting, and the case comes with 3 fans you can add to it (you can purchase more if you want, the controller can support 8 fans I believe).

So unfortunately, If you want to control the fans and RGB lighting through the motherboard you will need to get different fans, the ones that come with the ThermalTake case can only be controlled by the built-in controller. I feel for you, the Thermaltake fans look great, and I actually purchased their Floe Riing CPU cooler but ended up returning it because it was incompatible with Asus Aura Sync. But yes, unfortunately if you're interested in RGB fans controlled by your motherboard your going to have to purchase them separately (and make sure they're compatible with Aura Sync).

Regarding addressable RGB strips, your motherboard comes with 2 non-addressable and 2 addressable headers, I believe. Any non-addressable or addressable strip will work, just make sure you have the proper adapter to match your motherboard. For example, the 3-pin addressable header on your motherboard could work with Cablemod's addressable RGB strip because the strip with comes with an adapter for Asus motherboards. Your motherboard might also come with an adapter as well. Most RGB strips marketed towards PC builders will come with an adapter, but if you get it from somewhere like Amazon you need to double check and make sure.

For example, I saved some money buying these Chinly RGB strips. These are generic addressable strips that could be used in any lighting system. Since I had an adapter already (came with my Asus Z370 motherboard) I didn't need anything else. This was also half the price of a Cablemod strip.

Anyways, hope that helps, good luck!

u/megabsod · 3 pointsr/homeautomation

Sure, I've got three of those and just bought two more strips - this one from Amazon is cheap and works well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KQHQJ5C/

u/mdezzi · 3 pointsr/chevycolorado

check out this post on coloradofans.

I bought these lights off amazon and these connectors.

If you remove the left tail light there is a wire pigtail there where the OEM bed lights connect to. It is already prewired to the bed light button in the dash. I extended the wiring all the way to the front of the bed and then spliced in two of the connectors (one for left rail one for right rail).

I cut the LED strip in half and wired one on either side. I used Gorrilla double stick mounting tape to mount up under the bed rails.

All in all it took about 2-3 hours.

This is a really freaking cool idea. It seems like something Tony Stark would have in his house. I have no tips on implementing it at all.

These are the LED strips we used for our liquor cabinet. No complaints so far, and quite a bit cheaper than the one's you're looking at.

For how to set it up, read this post on the Corsair forums: [HERE] (http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=907769)

Then download a program called SIV (system information viewer) [HERE] (http://rh-software.com/) to control the led strips & rgb fans.

I quit using LINK almost a year ago. SIV has all the same effects without all the resource hogging/frustration of LINK & iCUE.

Most of the people use these. They also have ones that come with a power adapter and dimmer switch on ebay as well. Get the warm white water proof ones.

LED strip (12V, 60 LEDs/m, 5050 LEDs) is darn cheap, fairly bright, and all over the internet. Here's 5m of white on Amazon. If that's not bright enough, you can get higher lumen LED arrays that run on 12V.

You could use some little toggle switches or maybe rocker switches.

u/TheCollective01 · 2 pointsr/battlestations

I would love to know this as well. Maybe these?

https://hackernoon.com/the-best-tv-experience-philips-ambilight-clone-f164e392266a

Something like this is your best bet.

If your not good with soldering you can use something like this.

Dont worry if the label on the connector is wrong, copper is copper.

I get my Led strips from alitove on amazon. They sell different pixel density.

Any 5v power supply(once again alitove) will be sufficient, I recommend a 10a one. You can use it to run your RPI and your leds. The hdmi switcher and hdmi to rca can run off your tv power if your tv has usb plugs.

Awesome find, I’m a fan!

Do you know if the blue wire coming in was meant to be plugged into the wall, or to be attached to the other lights somehow? It looks like an AC connection (because of the chassis ground) but I don’t see anyplace for AC-DC conversion. Do you see any sort of module between the grey and the start of the LEDs, or is it just connected directly?

It’s tough to tell what exactly is going on inside the white packaging that says “SloanLED” but my guess is they just take 12V DC. If you can hunt down some specifications on that then that would be best, but if it were me I would honestly just start by seeing if it works by putting 12V right across the white wires (check the fine print on your laptop power supply, or any sort of “wall wart” that plugs into the wall and has a barrel jack on the other end to see if it has 12V).

Orrrrrrr if you don’t feel like guess and check is your game, skip it and just buy some of these to replace the existing LEDs:)

Here is a good link for the 5630s: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F5N3U8Q/. That is 13 bucks and has the 5 meters of LEDs, you also need a 5A 12v supply to power them.

First of all, Dank ass coffee man im actaully drinking some right now. second, more light. id get 2 Y splitters for the sockets and add 2 more lights. or better yet These this should add a bit more penetration for a bushier plant. next would be top it at least once, and LST that puppy. drill some holes around the top edge of your bucket about every inch and get some plant training wire.
my question for you is, what nutes and soil are you using? all and all looks frosty!

I got them from Amazon, the brand is JOYLIT: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073QNMS5J

They're dirt cheap (eight dollars for 16 feet) and super easy to work with. Just cut the length you need (in multiples of 6 LEDs) and solder wires to the pads, then put 24V across it. No need for resistors or anything else.

u/dat720 · 1 pointr/led

Does it have to be portable or battery powered or even stick shaped? Could you just use the IKEA Tradfri E27 RGB globes? All you need is the remote to get them up and going, no gateway required.

Otherwise I'd make something myself, its fairly trivial to do using WS2812 strips, they can be ordered in quite dense LED counts, the highest is 144 per metre so buying 1 meter and cutting it in half then mounting it to an aluminium square section or even a piece of wood, run it with an ESP8266 module like a Wemos Mini D1 using either custom firmware or ESPHome/ESPEasy/Tasmota/ESPurna, this would allow control from various home automation products or web interfaces...

Hi. I have a question about tape. I recently moved into student housing so all of my furniture was provided for me, but I can't damage it. What I want to do is mount an RGB Strip (like this) to the sides of my head board to add some flair to my bedroom. Is there a double sided tape out there that will last a decent time, and not damage the headboard when the strip comes off?

Some kind of seating with a back would be nice for when your friends want to just plop down (or even yourself). You might be able to score a nice couch or a few comfy chairs from Goodbye, Goodbuy for really cheap! Be sure to visit that and see what kind of pickings they have!

Those LED light strips are a great way to add some more light. In the past I've just taped those light strips on the wall - It's an easy way to add a TON of lighting to your room. This is what I had: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JZKF2ZO/
It was long enough for me to completely run one side of the room with LEDs. Plus, they have two different LED's on the same strip - one that's just plain white, and the other that's RGB.

u/paulbram · 1 pointr/homeassistant

Why are all of these options only single color at a time? I'm a fan of individually addressable pixels such as WS2812B strips. I have a strip under my kitchen cabinets that can do awesome animations similar to what you see on houses at Christmas time!

Right now I'm using an esp8266 flashed with a wifi server. I then use HA to send REST commands to the controller to do cool things like animated color cycles etc.

That said, this setup was a bit more complex than I'd like. I've been looking over some wifi WS2812B controllers such as this one: https://www.amazon.com/ALITOVE-Controller-Wireless-SK6812-RGBW-Addressable/dp/B07DDB6JHJ?keywords=ws2812b+controller+wifi&qid=1539281210&sr=8-5&ref=sr_1_5

That said, since I already have my ESP8266 working fine, I may just stick with what I have.

u/CarbonGod · 1 pointr/Lighting

Not sure of the question actually?

Most strips you can cut and rewire. I'm guessing RGB will be 4 wires. Wherever you get the strip, they should also sell split connectors, and flat 4 wire cables.

Unless you are asking who sells Echo compatible strips?
Google and Amazon helps with that.

u/spalmisano · 1 pointr/homeassistant

Follow up: is this everything in one? Any reason not to go with a kit approach?
