Here's the one I have. I use it to get around campus, it works just fine for me. I replaced the bearings with nicer ones because one was dented
I also recommend this, it’s a cover for the board to protect you, the bag, your back seat in your car, ect from the grip tape
Hubro Designs Boosted Board Quick Cover, Longboards (BrdBag GA2.0) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KSV2BH4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_nZUDCbEHB2NHS
I bought a cover for both my boosted board and my longboard.
Falling correctly is obviously a big part of reducing damage and wearing a typical wrist guard would minimize damage more than these gloves. I've got both these guards and I wear the killer only while practicing tricks on my regular skateboard. They are way too cumbersome when I'm going to and from classes and carrying stuff. The 2 pucks on the flatland are angled in such a way that falling straight down gets translated into a horizontal sliding motion to minimize wrist damage. I've fallen once going 16 mph and I did not injure my wrists or palms. Most of the damage gets transferred to the elbow region and I always wear pads for that.
Then again I've only got a Mini S so you might want to look for better protection if you're going much faster.
well, first I would get the best of the best.
despite what you may hear, if you get something good, and take care of it somewhat regularly, it WILL last you for many many years.
I buy Bones Swiss (usually $60 USD). and make sure to buy some Bones Bearings Speed Cream.
Now, for wheels it depends on where you like to ride, or how you like to ride. I usually just buy hard wheels (99 duro. Durometer is the hardness of a wheel. 99 and above is pretty damn firm) but you can always buy 97 or something. softer wheels are going to be good for all around skateboarding, but if you skate at the park, you are going to want hard wheels. you will feel a difference in the traction and also the speed at which you are going. But like I said, I ride 99Duro. The size of wheel is also important but I always suggest something between 54 and 52. If you want something that's going to last you longer just go with 53 and be done with it. It's a happy medium.
Brands? everyone has a brand of urethane they like to ride. I am riding some Spitfire 53mm classics. Most of my life I either skated Ricta or Powell.
Powell makes some good wheels to experiment with. They have an "All Terrain" formula of urethane that rides pretty decent as well as a "Park Wheel" that is suppose to ride better at plazas and (duh) parks.
However, I don't really see the difference personally in their formulas and I usually just get the ATF wheels up until a few years ago (I don't like to get stuck with one brand forever).
Now, with the speed cream, you're going to want to use it on your bearings maybe once every few months depending on how much you ride, but you will tell when your Bones Swiss bearings aren't spinning infinitely anymore when you aren't going the speed of light. You either need to clean your bearings with a Bearing Cleaning kit (here
Or, you can save yourself some money and DIY a cleaning kit (it's fun. that's what I did and it looks awesome. if you want I can show you how I made mine)
Either way, you MUST clean your bearings before you apply the speed cream, otherwise your bearings will just collect more debris and they will turn shitty.
I have a filmer board with bones swiss in the wheels that I have been riding for over five years and the spin like a dream and a new set I just put in my street deck that I look forward to using for many years to come.
Just look up how to clean your bearings on a youtube site and you're good to go
just remember NEVER. EVER USE WD 40. THAT SHIT IS BAD FOR YOUR BEARINGS AND IS NOT GOOD.
trust me.
here's a quick list I put together for a solid custom setup.
Deck: Enjoi 8.0 (you could swap this for another deck of any quality brand.
Trucks: independent stage 11's. (note this is in a set of one, so you'll have to buy two trucks)
Wheels: Spitfire formula four's
bearings: bones reds
grip tape: mob grip
Hardware: 7/8". (personally I go to a hardware store and get them a bit cheaper)
Definitely do your research and decide what would be best for you though.

I believe that's a different model. The knee pads for derby are definitely different.

Looking through the site, wow... I didn't realize how hard VAT hit you for those US brand trucks. I need to do more research on trucks available in the UK. The prices for the brands I mentioned are totally unreasonable over there. Reading reviews about Enuff doesn't build my confidence in them, though, so I'd still steer clear if you can swing the cash.
Edit: maybe check Amazon? I found some reasonably priced 8" Independent trucks with free delivery on the UK Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Independent-Stage-11-Standard-Truck/dp/B00APL6OY0
keep in mind the amazon price is from TGM skateboards.. which is a shop in michigan
so they are paying the equivalent of around $36 US here is a pair indy 139s on amazon from TGM for $35 with free shipping in the US now keep in mind the UK amazon listing is not free shipping it's £12... this brings the price above $52US and then chances are they may need to pay import tax after that
so for OP... since the amazon item would be shipping from a US based seller in Michigan it would be a good idea to find out if there will be any additional taxes added to the £38.87
You get hook things you can add on to most backpacks. I got one and it works but the bottom of the board does swing around a bit so I would use a strap just to hold it in place.

I just got it from amazon, it took about a month for it to arrive from china.
I'm in the same boat! Got mine a few weeks ago and have never ridden a skateboard before - - took a lot of getting used to and I thought I'd never get used to it but lo and behold almost a month later I've gotten pretty confident riding around NYC traffic haha
Turning was definitely my worst skill - - I'm still getting used to it but with practice I've gotten better. Look into loosening / tightening your trucks. They also haver custom bushings to help with turning. Also to help dampen the bumps in the road I bought myself some shock pads. Links below! Best of luck!

Golfer's Tape
Can't go wrong, great stuff.
ABSOLUTELY!
Here are the hilbilly ass pads I swear by! I feel they are excellent protection all around including tailbone. I also have the RED impact shorts and will sometimes wear both if I'm going crazy, but the RED shorts don't protect the tailbone nearly as well as the HillBilly's.

I would say the Demon Snow Flex force short that floppy linked are #2.
There is no shame in armoring up and anybody who says otherwise is a douche.
If you have a backpack rn you really like but it doesn't have straps, you can get a board hook. There's one that was a Kickstarter (link) and sadly all sold out, but I found one similar on Amazon for $8.99 (link). It straps to your backpacks shoulder straps. I got it for my mini x👍🏼
Hello all, I was wondering if you guys could give a recommendation on some impact shorts for snowboarding. I have narrowed it down to 4 based upon price and availability to me in Vancouver.
The creme of the crop seems to be skeletools and azzpadz, but those are a little hard to get a hold of, as far as I can tell, in Vancouver.
So if you could either recommend one of the four I have pre-selected, or if you think I'm way off base on something and letting me know. My budget is $150.

Deck: Any of the big brands, kinda personal preference based on pop / board shape / graphics [Baker, Element (not featherlights, they tend to snap.), Flip, Zero, MiniLogo, etc.] You can also usually get a blank deck from one of those companies for a cheaper price.
Trucks: Independent trucks are what I've always used. Thunder trucks are good quality too. Indys are just kinda classic and very popular. Dad used em back in the 80s. (of the appropriate size, usually 139s, depends on deck width)
Wheels: Totally personal opinion, but I like Bones 100s or Spitfire Formula 4s
Bearings: Bones Reds. Classic. My dad skated on these too. I have skated on them ever since I started at 8 years old. Tried, true, affordable.
Here's my most recently purchased full, complete deck, parted out, for you to look at:
Deck: (not the exact same as mine, got it at a local shop. Deathwish decks are manufactured by Baker.) http://www.amazon.com/Deathwish-Deathspray-Black-Skateboard-Decks/dp/B0086Q7B2A/ref=sr_1_5?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1453949834&sr=1-5&keywords=deathwish+skateboard

Good Luck! If you want to get into skateboarding, I highly recommend going into a local shop. A big part of skate culture is supporting your local stores, which are usually filled with some pretty cool people.
I always enjoy fishing, hiking, or camping when I have break! Or I'll get a bunch of people over and play nintendo 64 games and have a pizza party!
This is my wishlist item!
Im just getting back into the game after a 20 year hiatus and have the same concerns as you. Surprisingly, I quickly remembered how to fall again but I definitely miss my harbinger wrist wraps. They were awesome back in the day as they were gloves that had a nice solid wrap around the wrist and a palm side splint only. I always worried about the top side splint breaking my fingers and this was an awesome solution. I went down hard numerous times in parks and street and those things were champs. Unfortunately, they don't make them anymore but I did order the ones below and they will be arriving today. I will update here after I use them if you'd like.
Hillbilly Wrist Guard Gloves - Half Finger (Black, Large) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046EWXC4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rSisDbJAEVE6A
I used to use gloves, but they irritate my skin. I would prefer one, but it's not worth the discomfort for weeks to come. So I found some golfer's tape, and I wrap all the fingers other than my thumb on my left hand. It works well for me, even on hot days. The tape is nice and stretchy, but I can go a whole round with just one small piece on each of the aforementioned fingers.

I found all the hardware at Lowe's.
Hey all! I've been wanting to get into something new and recently my interest in skateboarding kicked in. I've always wanted to do it, but couldn't, due to where I lived. Anyways this community seems awesome, and a longboard seems to be just what I'm looking for (just something to go to school with, go to the gym/nearby restaurants/cruise around town for fun) but I'd like some help. I've researched a little, and have narrowed down my options into these two (tho certainly I would take recommendations - only thing is I'm on a tight budget) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008EZNXHA/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER, and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076VTZK6H/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
The 44 inch one (2nd) seems to be great, according to the videos and reviews I've checked on it, while people claim that the 34 inch (1st) can use a change of wheels. The thing is, I do want something that's more on the portable side, and I've never seen a 44 inch longboard (or any longboard actually) in my life, so I don't know just how tall that is, but I'm assuming it's not very easy to carry around? As compared to the 34 inch one atleast.
Sorry for the all over the place message, I'm too excited and also too sleepy. Would appreciate any insight anyways. Thanks!!
I don't know what the "best" things are, but I use a Bern Watts helmet (https://www.amazon.com/Bern-Unlimited-Summer-XX-Large-3X-Large/dp/B00FL7LMAE/ref=sr_1_2?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1482294642&sr=1-2&keywords=bern+helmet), 187 Killer wrist guards (https://www.amazon.com/187-Killer-Wrist-Guards-Black/dp/B004NIZZ5U/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1482294676&sr=1-1&keywords=wrist+guard+killer), my friend sent me sector 9 pads (https://www.amazon.com/Sector-Momentum-Protective-Black-Medium/dp/B00J0UWGE4/ref=sr_1_11?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1482294736&sr=1-11&keywords=sector+9+pads and https://www.amazon.com/Sector-Precision-Elbow-Protective-Medium/dp/B00J8DX36I/ref=sr_1_13?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1482294736&sr=1-13&keywords=sector+9+pads) and I have some bash guard accessories for sale (https://www.reddit.com/r/boostedboards/comments/5jf3pk/v1_flatland_3d_accessories_for_sale/)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B079DX12DF/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_468_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=C4YMM2HH02XS9DMAQR3C&dpPl=1&dpID=81O1OtUiJ4L
I'm using Hillbilly wrist guards - half finger and Hillbilly impact shorts I've put them to good use and they're holding up great. If you're thinking about getting the shorts, double and triple check the sizing. When reading reviews, I saw a lot of people complaining about the sizing, so I ordered a size smaller than normal (medium instead of large) and they fit perfectly. phew
Grip is one of the more over-trained things. It's really tough to program for - there is no consensus on beneficial grip routines. Benni Magnusson had grip problems for years, until he started strapping up on all but his heaviest sets. For him, he wasn't making gains on his grip because he was doing too much.
If you can't use chalk, Purell hand sanitizer will help. It gets rid of some of the oils on your hand.
Also, taping your index finger and thumb (with athletic tape or, preferably, golfer's tape) helps a lot too.
Lastly, on the hook grip, make sure you're really squeezing the hell out of your thumb.
Yeah, 608s. I think I used these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUH45DU/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 since I had some left over after making a couple fidget spinners.
The specific one I bought is not currently available. This one looks to be the closest: https://amzn.to/2qdLKHC but with a more powerful motor and bigger battery.
I remember scrambling for those pesky m3 screws… getting the right length etc. I used to buy them at about $.25 each from the local “metric” carrying hardware store! Amazon has these assortments…
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014ONCP88/
And 608 bearings! WTF is a 608 bearing? Again, Amazon comes through…
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BUH45DU/
I have the same problem on my thumb from gripping the racket to tightly.
This tape has some flex to it so it doesn't constrict your thumb range of motion as much as other tape:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000U0D4TE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've tried a couple of wrist guards, but I've found these to be the best:
Hillbilly Wrist Guard Gloves - Half Finger
http://amzn.to/2rlkPve (Amazon affiliate link)
They slip on like gloves. The guard plastic doesn't get in the way of holding the Boosted controller. And the half-fingers don't get in the way too much of the Flatland3D O-ring I have on the controller.
I tried a couple of different wrist guards, but they were either not as simple to put on as these Hillbilly's or they got in the way of the controller.
I'm no expert, but I'd buy an inexpensive hub wheel board for that. I use one for my commute and it's great not needing to tension the belt or worry about smacking the motor mount on something.
You should probably check out the replacement motor costs first though, so you know what you're looking at when something does fail.
Blitzart used to sell a dual motor board for $400 that was really solid, and easy to upgrade/repair, but it looks like they only sell a single motor variant now. Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/BLITZART-Huracane-Longboard-Hub-Motor-Skateboard/dp/B06WRQ1CZZ
I'd still consider it, however, because the enclosure is very simple and easy to remove, and you can swap the ESC and switch to a belt-driven setup in the future (a friend has done this and it works great).

The two are both 7 ply

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?k=quest+native+spirit
The first board is notoriously high off the ground. It might flex better but people still complain that it's too high. 4 inches longer, but bamboo, so it could be lighter. 85a wheels, which are too hard.
Honestly, I kind of like the bamboo board. It could be lighter, and flex is fun to ride apparently.
The second looks a tad better to me, design wise. Softer wheels (80a), and no complaints about height (despite having more sales)
I'm just not too happy ordering the second one because the deck is maple, which I've heard offers less flex (so it'll be less absorbent of shocks/impacts) and is heavy. I'm honestly kind of stumped, but I went with the second board. I just wish the board ends up being kind of flexy, despite being 7 ply maple

There are actually pads for your lower back, if by lower back you mean tailbone:
https://www.amazon.com/Hillbilly-protective-gear-2704-Pad-Impact/dp/B002UHXY8G
They’re more of a thing in the Rollerblading world though.
The rest of your back you really don’t need padding for, the main thing is just to have all of your vertices covered since 99% of the time that’s what absorbs the brunt of any impact.
Depending on how much you weigh, it ranges from orange (soft) to yellow (hard)
otang bushings
I bought these when I started out. They look ugly as hell but they work really well, and they go inside my pants anyway. Still wear them in the park. They run pretty large though.
Heard good things about skeletools as well. Just search for impact shorts on Amazon.

Are you looking for a travel bag (like this one) or a backpack?
I do not recommend the Boosted backpack. The process of getting your board secured/unsecured is remarkably fussy and it's rather difficult to get the back on/off your back once the board is on the backpack. The process of securing your helmet to the backpack is even worse. Additionally, the backpack does not distribute the weight of the board very well. I can't walk more than a mile without feeling incredible discomfort in my back. I haven't tried any other board-carrying backpacks, but I would definitely not purchase a Boosted backpack after having used it. The backpack is nowhere near worth what it costs.
I use the Boosted strap whenever I need to carry my board. It's light years better than the Boosted backpack, except all it carries is your board.
First board I rode was this crappy $250 BLITZART Huracane. Back then I thought it was incredible, and I knew I wanted to buy one for myself.
I decided to go all in and bought a $1600 Boosted Stealth. My expectations were shattered. I've put over 1250 miles on mine in the past 7 months.
But the Stealth just isn't powerful enough for me, so I just bought a $2650 Kaly.nyc XL 2.0 which should be here in a few weeks.
My absolute biggest advice is WEAR YOUR HELMET.
Seriously.
I had been longboarding for 8 years before I bought my first electric skateboard, and learning how to fall properly can literally save your life.
I've only taken one fall at 25mph (due to an incompetent driver) and I came out with only a few scratches. If you don't have the ability to properly fall at your boards top speed, a helmet can be the difference between life and death.

Overall its a cool looking griptape
This is what you want. I actually made my own and it wasn't hard at all. This guide is what I used.
