Eucerin Aquaphor

Eucerin Aquaphor changed my life. I used to have the most unbearable dry chapped lips, I would honestly apply lip balm at least 100 times a day. A friend tipped me off to Aquaphor almost a decade ago now, & it’s made an indescribable difference.
Cheers!

Hey everyone, I cringe when I see the cost vs contents of most first aid kits on the market. Too much unnecessary stuff and only the highest priced kits have clotting powder, which I’ve used on the trail for controlling bleeding with large abrasions and deep or tangential lacerations. I put together my suggestions, with an eye toward maximizing usefulness and minimizing per unit cost. IMO this is superior to most kits costing 2-3x more. Light enough for the discernible backpacker, but makes a great gift for family and friends to throw in the car pocket, the boat, ATV, or carry along to kids sporting events. Feel free to add, subtract or substitute to customize your own.

Ever-Ready First Aid Adhesives, assorted sizes, 280ct $6.95 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0179S0IAW
Self explanatory, enough for 2-3 of each size per DIY kit.

Vakly Stretch Gauze: 12 pk 4” x 4yds $7.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTQFPA6
1 pk per kit and 4 left over for the home medicine cabinet.

McKesson individually wrapped sterile gauze pads: 50ct $5.17 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002C5P9J8
6 per kit, throw them in a ziploc baggie to protect against moisture.

Woundseal clotting powder: 20 pkts $28.06 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008RUJXR6
Remember that compression alone, when done properly, effectively controls most bleeding. But when a member of your group is on aspirin or other blood thinners, or sustains a nasty cut that won’t stop bleeding, this stuff is awesome.

3M Duct tape: 1.88in x 30yds $3.89 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013B1XHE
Countless uses for the backpacker / camper, from tourniquet, fracture splinting, reinforcement of wound dressings, fashioning a moleskin barrier for blisters, not to mention tent, pack or sleeping bag repair. Grab a few extra straws from your local fast food joint, trim them to 2 inches, then roll up 4 to 6ft lengths of duct tape around the straw. The straw in the middle doubles as a pocket billows for fire starting.

Rensow white petroleum jelly 5gms, 144 pkts: $24.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KAGT85M
Lip balm, burn treatment, also apply to rashes, blisters and abrasions to keep gauze from adhering. Doubles as an excellent fire accelerant for bushcrafting. I squeeze some on a cotton ball to use with my tender for catching a spark.

Kirkland anti-diarrheal (loperamide) tablets: 400ct $9.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EXPY004
Put 12 per kit and keep the rest for that week-old lasagna that you should have thrown out.

Ibuprofen 200mg tabs: 2x500ct $3.93 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P1NJAJS
Put at least 40 per kit as this is likely to be the first supply used.

Diphenhydramine capsules 25mg, 100ct : $4.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00080CKDW
Useful for allergies, insect stings, contact dermatitis, and doubles as a sleep aid for those restless nights in the hammock. 12 per kit should do.

Triple antibiotic ointment 0.5oz 144 pkts: $12.18 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H2T9K3K
6 to 8 per kit should do, and keep the rest for replen.

Ziplock snack bags, 40ct (for storing meds): $2.73 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U9ZFFCY
Please clearly label each baggie using an indelible marker with name of med, adult dose and expiration date. Pediatric dose optional. Individual “gas station” packets are much more expensive but if routinely carried in vehicle this may be a consideration (law enforcement doesn’t like unlabeled pills floating around in baggies).

First Aid Bags (empty), Alazco, 8 bags $32.82 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0182MQ4MU
Highly optional but nice for making your kit look pretty if you’re giving these away as gifts. I double wrap mine in gallon ziploc bags for moisture control.

A printable first aid primer: https://s3.amazonaws.com/yohsresourcelibrary/First+Aid+Quick+Guide.pdf
Certainly not a comprehensive guide, but has some key information like helpful reminders on how to properly perform CPR on kiddos and babies 👶.

CeraVe Healing Ointment is the best thing I’ve ever used. Ever since I started consistently using it, my lips always feel good. I used to always have to wipe dead skin off at the end of the day but that doesn’t happen anymore! (Don’t tell anyone but I personally think it’s waaaaaay better than Aquaphor. Aquaphor does nothing for me). You can only get the big tubes of it in stores and I keep those around the house, but on Amazon you can get the little tubes for on the go.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016F3MEY0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D.KQDbQR2CX4K

If I’m in a bind and need to slap something on to keep my lips from drying out, I will use Vaseline/Aquaphor.

I have an allergy to fragrance/flavor in lip balms so I can only use those above. But in the past I really liked First Aid Beauty’s lip balm.

I'm a tradesman and I've had wounds that sound pretty similar to what you're describing over the years - cuts that turn into cracks and splits. They appear to start healing, but then reopen and the cycle continues.

Just recently, I had two at the same time - one on my right thumb and one on my right forefinger. Dry weather and particularly rough work seemed to contribute to the issue.

I'm no doctor, but I'll tell you how I got rid of the wounds myself and maybe you can try it.

When I had a few days off in a row, I used Silver Solution on the wound site, putting it on pretty liberally, then I would cover the area up with bandaids made specifically for fingers. The bandages are waterproof (or so they say) and they tend to stay in place on a finger better than the traditional bandaids.

I would not take those bandages off except to shower, then immediately after getting out of the shower I'd redress the wounds before they had time to completely dry out. The idea is to keep them covered with the silver solution as close to 24/7 as possible until they heal.

A few days later, the wounds healed up completely.

After they heal, be sure to use hand lotion or another product to keep your hands from splitting again.

Hope it works for you, good luck.

u/snowlove · 7 pointsr/Firearms

a few benzalkonium chloride wipes in there would be pretty good too https://www.amazon.com/Antiseptic-Wipe-Benzalkonium-First-Wipes/dp/B000F4SNNW/ they're pretty small in real-estate space so you can shove them in just about anywhere

u/Mmedical · 6 pointsr/todayilearned

Iodine compounds are effective disinfecting agents but are not used IN the wound. They are used ON intact skin prior to surgery or to prep an area prior to a procedure. Your best bet is sterile saline solution under pressure - essentially squirting the wound. We use large syringes to forcefully irrigate the wound which cleanses it, dislodging debris and germs. Use gravity to drain the saline off and do it over a sink or bath tub - don't worry about a bit of fresh bleeding. Repeat several times and if you are not allergic to antibacterial ointment, place that on the wound and cover it.

Edit: Here saline comes in a can saving the need for a syringe.

Always better to build one yourself.

Here's mine. Might give you some ideas.

6x6 Med Pouch (Modified with fingernail polish)

  1. Personal prescription meds inside quart ziploc for additional water resistance.
  2. 2x 4inch Gauze rolls
  3. 8x 4x4 sterile gauze pads
  4. 2x tampons 2x menstrual pads (these are meant more for backups for wife rather than wound care)
  5. 4x pair sterile surgical gloves
  6. 4x 4x4 tegaderm
  7. various butterfly closures and bandaids
  8. 1x triangle bandage
  9. Immodium & Pepto tabs
  10. Tylenol
  11. [redacted because people lack reading comprehension and I'm not going to debate it.]
  12. 2x Epi Pen (These are in case I have a run in with sunflower seeds.)
  13. 10x Alcohol swab
  14. Burn gel (the lidocane is good for more then just burns.) x10

  16. Sting wipes x10
  17. 1x tweezers
  18. 1x tick remover
  19. Medipore tape
  20. Clotting Sponges

  23. Chest Vent
  24. CAT Gen3
  25. SAM splint
  26. Hibiclens
  27. Mini USB light
  28. Bic Pen

Not all of this fits inside the med pouch itself. It's meant for quick access to the critical items.
u/MedicUp · 5 pointsr/ems
  • Gloves

  • Note pad/pen (to take notes)

  • CPR barrier

  • One Bloodstopper bandage or Emergency Bandage/Wound Stop/Israeli Bandage

  • Antiseptic wipes - more like these ones

  • Sterile gauze, 4x4 size

  • Medical Tape - 2-3", easily tear-able

  • Triangular bandage

  • Garbage bag or large Zip-Loc bag to throw trash in

  • Cell phone

For your other concerns - dislocations, fractures, etc I would not suggest any splints since you are travelling light. Support the injury site as best as you can until EMS arrives - if you put on a splint chances are that EMS will have to remove it anyway to examine the injury location for themselves.

Also FYI be careful with chemical ice packs...I've had a lot of them leak and they are just nasty to clean up.
u/Drama_Derp · 5 pointsr/vaporents

Almost all Clorox wipes are Bleach-Free (unless it's has the blue label which says "Bleach Wipes")

I do not know them chemicals used but your better off getting the ISO wipes that look like wet-naps. They work well for my Mighty and Pax2.

6.5gal plastic fermentor - $17.88 (Don't bother with glass fermentors!)

6.5gal Bottling Bucket - $18.81

Hydrometer - $12.99

3 3-piece airlocks - $5.00 - trust me, they'll break.

stopper not needed with plastic fermentor

Bottle filler - $5.09

10 ft 3/8th inch tubing - $10.99

Auto siphon - $8.76

don't need a bottle brush with plastic fermentor

144 bottle caps - $5.78

Use any pure sugar for priming - just calculate it right. I use cane sugar without issue.

Wing bottle capper - $15.48

Dial thermometer not really needed if you're slapping on an adhesive one, but definitely get this for a hot liquor tun if you're doing that.

Wine thief - $11.20

I never used a funnel or fermentor brush - you can use anything to clean but I suggest Oxyclean rinses

32oz Star San - $20.70

Adhesive Thermometer - $4.84

Total Cost: $137.52. Not ridiculous savings BUT you get 32oz of star san instead of 4oz of io-star which will last you years and sanitizer is expensive. You get a plastic fermentor instead of glass which is so much easier to clean and keep light out. Glass carboys are good for aging and aging is good for wine or special beers. Focus on simple ales that don't require it first.

The real savings come when you do all grain and make your own equipment. You can save $137 alone if you buy a big stainless steel pot and slap on a dial thermometer with a ball valve.

u/SubjectEscape · 3 pointsr/MAOIs

If it's just a rash due to topical irritation, it may help to remove the adhesive's residue after removing a patch in addition to cleansing the application site of a new patch.

I was getting a rash at first, too, then I started using alcohol prep pads before and after applying Emsam, and it really helped! I use these.

Not sure if that will help, but good luck.

u/toothpasteandcocaine · 3 pointsr/blogsnark

Wipe with some Balneol and then put some Calmoseptine on the, um, area. You can also smear some on a gauze pad and kind of stick it between your cheeks.

Bonus points if you do as my SO and I and cry, "BALNEOL FOR ALL Y'ALL!" as you apply.

u/Tychus_Kayle · 3 pointsr/trebuchetmemes

I've made some slight modifications to this, mostly to make it easier to follow. I've also included steps that should be quite obvious to someone who's done any homebrewing before, but I wish someone had told me when I first started.

I'd link to the original, for the sake of attribution, but the user who posted this deleted their account not long after I wrote everything down.

This will produce a sweet fruit-mead (or melomel). WARNING this will be far more alcoholic than it tastes, and should not be consumed if you've recently taken antibiotics, or suffered gastric distress, as the yeast culture will still be alive, and will happily colonize your intestines if your gut microbiome is too fucked up.

Equipment: Most of this stuff will be a good deal cheaper at your local homebrew store, but I've included amazon links (also to the yeast).

At least 2 (3 is better, for reasons we'll get to) 1-gallon jugs (I don't recommend scaling this up), glass preferred. Add an extra jug for each additional batch. This one includes a drilled stopper and airlock

Drilled stoppers (or carboy bungs) and airlocks, non-drilled rubber stoppers.

An autosiphon and food-safe tubing.

Food-safe sanitizing solution (I recommend StarSan).

An electric kettle with temperature selector is useful, but not needed.

If you want to bottle it rather than just keeping a jug in your fridge:

Empty beer or wine bottles (just save your empties), capping or corking equipment, caps or corks, and a bottling wand.

Ingredients:

2.5 lbs (1130g) honey, clover recommended.

A cup (approximately 250ml) or so of fruit (I recommend blackberries, and I strongly recommend against cherries, other recipes have worked for me, but this yields a very medical flavor with cherries).

1 packet Lalvin EC-1118 yeast (a champagne yeast notable for its hardiness, its ability to out-compete other microorganisms, and its high alcohol tolerance).

Optional: potassium sorbate (to reduce yeast activity when our ferment is done), pectic enzyme (aka pectinase - for aesthetic purposes). Both are also available in bulk.

Process:

Day 1:

Mix sanitizing solution with clean water at specified proportions in one of your jugs, filling the jug most of the way. Stopper it, shake it. Remove stopper, set it down wet-side-up (to keep it sterile), pour the fluid to another jug. There will be foam left behind, this is fine, don't bother to rinse it or anything. At low concentrations this stuff is totally fine to drink, and won't ruin your fermentation or flavor.

Add honey to jug, all of it.

If you have a kettle, and your jug is glass, heat water to around 160F (71 Celsius), pour a volume into your jug roughly equal to the amount of honey present. Fix sterile stopper to jug. Shake until honey and water are thoroughly combined. The heat will make it FAR easier to dissolve the honey. Set aside for an hour or so while it cools. Add clean water 'til mostly full, leaving some room for fruit and headspace.

If you're missing a kettle, or using a plastic jug, this is gonna be a little harder. Fill most of the way with clean water (I recommend using a filter) leaving some room for fruit and headspace. Fix sterile stopper, shake 'til honey and water are thoroughly combined. This will take a while, and you will need to shake VERY vigorously.

At this point, you should have a jug mostly-full of combined honey and water. To this, add fruit (inspecting thoroughly for mold, don't want to add that). Then dump in a single packet of the Lalvin EC-1118 yeast, don't bother rehydrating it first or anything, it'll be fine going straight in. Add pectic enzyme if you have it (this does nothing to the flavor, it just makes the end product less cloudy). Stopper it up, shake it again. This jug now contains your "must" (pre-ferment mead).

Pour some sterilizing fluid in a bowl, put a carboy bung/drilled stopper in the bowl, with an airlock. Ensure full immersion. Let sit for a minute. Replace stopper with your bung/drilled stopper, affix airlock. Fill airlock with clean water, sanitizing fluid, or vodka. Rinse the stopper, fix it to your jug of sanitizing fluid.

Place must-jug in a dark place, I recommend a cabinet or closet.

Days 2-7:

Retrieve jug, give it a little jostle. Nothing so vigorous as to get your mead into the airlock, but enough to upset it. This is to release CO2 buildup, and to keep any part of the fruit from drying out. The foaming from the CO2 release may be very vigorous. Do this over a towel for your first batch. If the foam gets into your airlock, clean your airlock and reaffix it. Perform this jostling procedure at least once per day, more is better.

Day 8:

Final jostling, I recommend doing this in the morning.

Day 9:

let it sit, we want the sediment to settle.

Day 10: Time to get it off the sediment

Shake sterilizing fluid jug. Affix tubing to siphon. Put the siphon in the sterilizing fluid, shake the jug a little just to get the whole siphon wet. Siphon fluid into either a third container or a large bowl. This is all to sterilize both the inside and outside of your siphoning system.

Remove siphon from jug. Give it a couple pumps to empty it of any remaining fluid. Place siphon in your mead jug, leaving the end of the tubing in sterilizing fluid while you do this.

Take the jug that you just siphoned the sterilizing fluid from. Dump what fluid remains in it. Place the end of the tubing in this jug, then siphon the mead into it. Make no attempt to get the last bit of mead into your fresh container, it's mostly dead yeast and decomposing fruit.

Add potassium sorbate if you have it, stopper the jug, place it in your fridge.

Clean the jug you started in. Clean your siphon and tubing.

Day 11:

Let it sit

Day 12 or later: time to transfer again, or bottle it.

If you no longer have a jug full of sterilizing fluid, make one.

Repeat the earlier steps to sterilize the siphoning system, with a bottling wand attached to the end of the tubing if you want to bottle.

Sterilize your bottles or a clean jug, either with fluid or heat.

Siphon mead either into your bottles or jug. Stopper/cap/cork when done.

Put your jug/bottles in the fridge.

The yeast culture is still alive, and will continue to ferment. The fridge, and optional potassium sorbate, will merely slow this down. I recommend drinking any bottles within two months, to avoid a risk of bursting bottles. The mead should already be tasty at this point, but usually tastes much better after a couple more weeks.

EDIT: Fixed the formatting up a bit.

Try Burt's Bees Res-Q ointment. I've been putting it on my face overnight for a little over a week and it seems to be helping. It will take awhile for the scars to fade completely, so don't expect immediate results from anything.

Gentian violet. You can paint it on and/or soak a tampon in it. It also works on nipple thrush and oral (just paint the inside of the baby's mouth). It stains everything purple, and makes your breast milk purple if you pump, but that shit works. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004XJQR60/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1406128632&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

These are the products I swear by: Lucas Papaw Ointment and Bliss kiss nail oil. They definitely don't burn and they smell wonderful. I use the papaw ointment on everything--my eye area gets dry too, or my elbows, or as chapstick.

I have had some success by trying to keep the damage to one or two fingers. Like "I'm letting everything but the pointer fingers heal" and then I still have an outlet but the other skin gets better and then I'm less likely to pick those. And then I try to bring it down to 1, and then 0. I generally relapse but it's gotten significantly better in terms of severity overall.

Try BZK wipes instead, they don't hurt like alcohol and still get the job done.

Something like 65 dollars for all of this to have you set for a good long time on "stickin' supplies."

This is a copy/paste, I know you didn't ask for the other needle shit, but posting it may very well help others. I sent this in a message to a guy asking in a post from a med lab supplier. I would frown upon somebody linking competitors if I were the source in the post, so it was kept private.

this stuff is the best thing that you can possibly buy if you have a problem with body odor. it kills the bacteria that make your feet and pits stink, and makes it really hard for them to repopulate. which means you stay stench-free. buy the 4oz bottle and use it very sparingly to wash your feet and armpits the night before or the morning of your drive to indio.

you can use it again in the showers while you're there if you're so inclined, but I've found that even just that initial application is enough to keep the funk at bay for the weekend (if I take a shower every day). seriously, it's worth its weight in gold to not have stinky feet and pits. especially in a tent. if you're that guy with the smelly feet, your friends will thank you for using this. just be very careful not to get it in your eyes! chlorhexidine gluconate is not something you want to get near a mucus membrane.

I already have a bottle at home, so if you like this please don't buy it for me! there must be another stinky coachellitor that could use it. hope this helps somebody :)

u/TheUnicornShart · 2 pointsr/Hyperhidrosis

While this won't stop the sweat, it WILL stop the smell. Wash your feet with Hibiclens or the generic from cvs. It kills bacteria for 24 hours, including the bacteria that causes smells (it's used in hospitals & before surgeries). I bartend and can easily spend 12 hours in the same shoes and it is a game changer. You can wash other areas with it and it will easily eliminate the body odor funk for a day, despite being sweaty.

paint it with some Gentian Violet. It cleared my baby's thrush (though it will stain anything it looks at a strong neon purple) so I tried it on my toenail funk (never take a cheap person's recommendation for a nail salon) and it clear the fungus in three days, just painting it thrice a day.

I get em for something like $2.50 for a double box of 400. Once you have em, you find all sorts of uses. I also use them to clean my headphones as alcohol dissolves grease and wax better than water.

Just make sure to test on something not visible first. I tried to clean the T100 foam tips in my 215k IEM's and the alcohol dissolved them hehe.

Most likely bacterial contamination. Wash your spray bottle with hot water and soap (scrub it if you can, inside and out) Then let it air dry and sterilize it buy immersing in isopropyl alcohol for atleast 2 minutes. Then wrap it in a paper towel (to prevent airborne bacteria from contaminating it and let it air dry for a long while to let all the isoprop evaporate. This will ensure your nasal spray bottle is as sterile as possible.

When dispensing the insulin from the vial into the bottle, the best method is as follows:

Work on a clean surface (you can disinfect with isoprop and a paper towel) Wash you hands before touching any of the materials. Prep your area by taking the vial out of the box, opening you nasal spray bottle, getting your syringe and as many disposable alcohol swabs as you need. Then use a swab on the top of the vial, another swab on the needle, and a third swab on the straw part of the sprayer. Fill the syringe with the same amount of air as the volume of insulin your taking out of the bottle by pulling on the syringe. Insert the needle into the vial, depress the syringe to fill the vial with the air, then turn the vial upside down and withdraw the volume of insulin. (depending on how much insulin your taking out of the vial you may have to put a little bit of air in, then pull the same volume of insulin out, put more air in, etc until the syring has the volume you want in it) If you must take the syringe out of the vial for whatever reason and then put it back in, swab the needle again and the top of the vial (with seperate swabs) Then just dispense the insuling into the spray bottle and cap it.

This method follows aseptic technique and will ensure the sterility of the insulin. Just be sure to dispose of the syringe properly. Syringes come with plastic caps over the needle, so just put it back on when your throwing out the needle.

Hola hotpinkfishfood! I've been trying to get better motivated for my writing and working on that stuff. Also went on vacation with the family two weeks ago!

Well, this right here would be my first choice. But that's just because there are things that are a little expensive I'm saving up for.

If not, then this item would be nice to go along with the first aid kit I still need to build. Surprisingly, other than my mp3 and Kindle wishlists, I don't have much on my wishlists lower than even $10, including shipping.

And oh yeah, should I happen to win...if you happen to pick the second item, could you type in "smile.amazon.com" first and select the National Psoriasis Foundation for the charity? Using that link, Amazon donates a certain percentage of an (eligible) item's price to a charity of your choice. So that would be extra awesome lol

u/Temmon · 2 pointsr/ABraThatFits

Yeah, that makes sense. It seems like it would be really hard to find something that supports you that fits and doesn't destroy your skin. Nursing bras probably aren't great, because the only one I could think of that might come close to fitting you (Hot Milk Lingerie) closest option is a 32J. I'm sorry I cant help more. You deserve better and I really hope you can figure out.

You mentioned you've tried a lot of creams and ointments. Have you tried anything with a zinc oxide barrier like this maybe? Or petroleum jelly? Something to make a barrier.

It'll be a while before I can put together a comprehensive post but think of the basics as items that would get you to the nearest ambulance.

OK, this became a comprehensive post. :P

Here are pics of the stocked kit. (a few items OTC meds are missing and need to be restocked)

https://imgur.com/a/fCVcp

Disclosure: I have enough basic first-aid training to know my limitations; an RN friend of mine helped me build this kit.

Meds

  • Benadryl and an epipen(you'll need an Rx for this) for allergic reactions

  • OTC Imodium/Pepto pills (since dehydration from vomiting or diarrhea will kill you)

  • OTC Advil, Tylenol, Naproxen (not absolutely necessary but the first two can help bring a fever down and Naproxen can bring inflammation down...more comfort items, they don't take up a lot of space)
  • triple antibiotic ointment in single use disposable packs (it's basically Polysporin but you avoid contaminating a whole tube by using individual packs; I try to find similar packaging with other stuff)

  • BZK wipes (for disinfecting scrapes and such)

  • sterile saline (small bottle or disposable sterile bullets for flushing out wounds or as an eye wash)

  • non-enteric, standard 325mg Aspirin in individual foil packs (I've read that chewing these at the time of a heart attack and in the month after will improve survivability by as much as 23%)

  • if hypoglycemia or diabetes are factors, pack plenty of Dex4 sugar tablets and whatever other supplies you might need

    Misc.

  • 3M Steri-Strip closures to keep a deep cut from opening up further (forget surgical glue or stitches; you'll only seal dirt and bacteria into a wound)

  • couple of Tegaderm films would be good to cover wounds.

  • stretch gauze

  • sterile gauze

  • med tape

  • Advanced, flexible bandaids, large (forget fabric or regular crappy bandages; if you carry any at all, get these)

  • Advanced blister bandaids (similar to above material but different form-factor)

  • QuikClot sponge

  • triangle bandage with safety pins

  • pair of EMT shears (don't use a knife as you risk injury while cutting clothes or bandages)

  • Sliver Gripper tweezer with clip

  • pair of disposable nitrile gloves in a small sealed bag

  • water purification tabs (safe drinking water is critical; better this than having to use the Imodium!)

  • emergency blanket (statistics are dramatic on reduced survivability with even the slightest hypothermia)

The point of this kit is to get someone to the nearest medical help. You can get a replacement pair of nitrile gloves, more gauze or whatever when you get to the ambulance or hospital. Some of the stuff is for keeping conditions from getting worse (sliver removal, band-aids, blister cushions, ointment) which might be viewed as "comfort" items not "first aid" but in more rough environments, an infected cut could kill you so I put it in.

u/bigchastity · 1 pointr/chastity

Iodine is really only painful on an open wound, on whole skin is should be ok. But BZK wipes would be the alternate choice. The bottom line is that none of these things are going to feel great if they hit mucus membranes. So yeah, you may have to man up a bit. Try the BZK though.

Get yourself some Cranberry pills and take them every day. They really do help prevent the UTI's to begin with....

I honestly don't have much experience with long term wear, so I'm afraid I'm venturing into the realm of speculation here. The idea of something being in my urethra that long doesn't actually appeal to me to much. (Says the guy with a 4 gauge PA ring sticking out of his urethra.) I love how exquisitely sensitive my urethra is, and am terrified that I'll loose sensitivity with long term wear. That being said, take some alcohol wipes, or BZK wipes with you. Wipe down everything you can reach every time you go pee and I'd guess you're likely to be OK. Honestly I don't have a clue though, so if you go through with it, I'd love some anecdotal.

I have followed the same basic route, kang starr method and the sauce turned out tasty, but I just couldn't understand if it had actually fermented. I never had visible airlock activity and even tried adding in some of the liquid from my greek yogurt but still nothing. left it for about 2 weeks....

If you don't have an airlock you can use some cheese cloth or even paper towel with a rubber band should work in the interim. Anything with food especially since its sitting out for an extended period of time should be heavily cleaned & sanitized. I do some homebrewing so I use starsan

maybe start with some small batches to get your ratios down and try deviating a couple of them to see what you like best. also I think you might want to add in a little sugar.

Once done, add in vinegar & blended to superfine, toss it on the stove to bring to 180-190 deg for a few minutes then bottle it hot and then flip the bottles over for a few minutes to sanitize for shelf stability.

I smashed my face last year when I fell down a mountain. Thanks to the following, my face is back to the exact same with the exception of a teeny scar. Mederma, a tad expensive due to SPF but worth it cuz it was my goddamn face, triple antibiotic ointment linked here but cheaper when purchased as a generic, and Cocoa butter with vitamin E, also available in Walmart/Target places for half the price as listed here. Basically what you're looking for is lotions with vitamin E. I've had luck looking in the "ethnic" hair/lotion/body products section, and there's a whole variety of oils and lotions and rubs. Personally, my favorite is this one and it's usually $2 in store. Bio Oil can be a bit expensive, but a great and comparable product is Africa's Best Moroccan oil, or generic Baby Oil. Again, most of these products are available at Walmart/Target for a fraction of the price. They're all fairly pricey online because of the weight/shipping prices, despite it being shipped via Prime.

If really sweaty: blot on dry towel, blot with mild soapy wet towel, blot on diff dry towel, wipe down with good wipes (https://smile.amazon.com/PT-Q55172-Disinfectant-Sani-Cloth-Professional-Disposables/dp/B005MRURFY -- The Operating Room at my wife's work uses these!), then let air dry usually hanging over an AC vent that we have near the play area or in a window if it is nice out. That whole process takes just a minute or so and got rid of that lingering funky smell that was starting and has kept them comfortable as day #1.

If dry but used: just the germ wipes and air dry. It may not do much but it makes me and everyone else feel better about sharing.

That said, I am really wanting a solid leather cover setup for guests or something. Ideally I would have a pair of nice leather covers and a bunch of machine washable cloth covers, with a preference on the latter.

My wife is handy with that stuff and we're going to start trying to find the sweet spot in material & thickness to crank out a dozen or so of our own. It would be sweet to be able to just rip off a dirty one, toss it in the laundry, wipe down the gear, and slap on a fresh one!

If you want burns like this to heal better/faster there's something you can do, though you should have started already.

Here's the supplies you'll need:

Triple Antibiotic Ointment.
Anti-fungal ointment.
Vet Wrap (there's probably a human version but I don't know what it's called) This stuff sticks to itself but is re-usable.
Sterile saline solution (used for rinsing contacts)
Non-stick telfa pads.

You can find ALL of these things at any pharmacy for probably around $25-30.

So first you rinse the burn with the saline to clean it. Then mix up the ointments and apply that, then stick tefla pads to that and use the wrap it hold it all on.

I've had 3rd degree burns healed up in about a week using this method with little to no scarring.

On patients with non-airborne illness; gloves, hand sanitizer every time you leave a room, and hand washing regularly. For patients with more contagious illnesses there are tools such as masks, gowns, disposable stethoscopes, isolation precautions, etc. Also, all surfaces and stations are routinely wiped down with these bad-boys.

In every day life, you're exposed to a lot of pathogens and options are much more limited. There is not a perfect way to protect yourself, but regular hand washing is always advisable.

what are your thoughts on Cosrx Low pH Cleanser (recommended to me twice in this post) knowing that it is a foaming cleanser (which im guessing is bad because it has soap). I also purchased Kikumasamune and Etude house toners. Should they be applied after cleansing and before moisturizer?

I will definitely get the eucerin urea one after a few more searches.

For now i don't really care about pie or about sunscreen as i feel that fixing my acne and dehydration are more important.

Few more questions about your comment (that btw i have seen like a dozen times a this point, but since it is too old i cant post there):

1.Why the flaxseed oil, does it help your body hydrate your skin by producing oil?

2.Thoughts on taking electrolytes to increase water absorption?

3.are you talking about this aquaphor or this one?

4.Any general recs for moisturizers? i would rather avoid cerave because it just seemed to make my face oily and never really got absorbed, but i was using a cerave pump bottle that had a really runny consistency and seemed to have been discontinued so maybe it was a bad batch, also is cerave in the tub, the bottle or cerave pm any different? I have seen cerave pm recommended the most but it is a bit pricey, and i need an am moisturizer also.

5. Thoughts on clinique moisture surge cream?

5. More specifically, any good ceramide moisturizer recs, ideally to use as a standalone since I doubt i can figure out a combination of products that work, from the thread you posted in that comment i was thinking meishoku ceracolla as it is the only one that doesnt cost like 50$, I will also give cerave one last chance with the cerave pm tube.
