So I did a lot of research on it before I bought it and apparently anything you can buy off the shelf at a store is either fake or altered, which means it’s not “real,” in a sense. Real African black soap will look sort of like someone threw it up and have an earthy, grainy texture to it. There’s no lye used when they make it (if someone who understands soap more than me can step in here I’d be grateful) which makes the whole bar less consistent.

Ideally you want to choose one that says that it was made in Ghana because then you know you’re getting the real thing and not a bar of soap that was dyed black for laughs.

Anywhoo, onto my experiences...the internet told me that it’s too harsh to apply directly to the skin, so after I take my makeup off, I wet my face down and rub the soap with my fingers until a brown, oily substance coats them, from there I can massage it into my face for a few seconds. I was surprised the first time I used it because I wasn’t expecting it to foam up and it kind of does. Once I’ve got it rubbed all over everything (not my eye area), I let it sit for like 5 seconds and then I splash water onto my face to get it off.

Before I had any kind of skincare routine I had a lot of built up dead skin on my face. I’d guess that I probably had dehydrated skin because no matter how much I moisturized it was still gunky. We’re talking blackheads everywhere and I could scrape the skin off in the shower. Now that I have a better routine (going on a year now) my skin is more clear and definitely a normal skin type, I absolutely think the soap being so strong has a lot to do with that.

If you’ve never used it before I’d say start with once or twice a week and see what happens. I find that my skin feels “squeaky clean” after I wash my face but not horribly dry...I definitely need to re-add hydrators and moisturizers after I use the soap but my face doesn’t feel nearly as tight as, say, if I’ve gotten out of the shower after just using straight water without any cleanser.

If you do decide to go for it see if you can find a bar that’s not a 1lb brick though, I thought a pound was a good choice and no joke, using it just on my face, 7 days a week, I have a decade’s supply. My boyfriend’s young daughters will be getting African black soap gifted to them on their 21st birthdays. I don’t know what to do with this amount of soap.

But that’s enough of this rant. I hope I answered some questions!

Washing with soap for an hour won't get garlic off your fingers. You need one of these:

Soap: Ivory bars

Deodorant: Mitchim 48 hour unscented

It is worth understanding that nothing is truly unscented

These just don't add much and I end up smelling fresh & clean - or so I'm told - it's also worth remembering that we never really understand our own scent. We get used to it far too quick.

This combo, even thoguh I never wear cologne, it won't fight with the cologne.

I also use basic dandruff shampoo that has no extra added scents.

If your shampoo smells, and your soap smells, and your deodorant smells, and your shaving cream/gel/etc. has a scent... and then you add cologne you are layering all kinds of chaos together.

Once I realized this (as a much younger man) I focused on cleaning products that made me clean and then I could add scents to a neutral base vs. AXE AXE AXE AXE. :)

If your cleaning products are going to have scents, at least make sure they all work together and with any cologne you throw on top

May the Gods who don't exist help anyone who gets within smelling distance at that point :)

I only started at the beginning of the year so i know exactly what you're going through. If you go about once a week for a few weeks you'll slowly have more and more endurance. So instead of being wiped out after 25 minutes, you'll soon be able to go 2 or 3 hours.

The biggest thing you need to know is that if you really keep at it and start going 2 or 3 times a week, you need to stretch well, both arms and legs before you climb, every time, no matter what. And then when you feel loose, go climb some super easy stuff for about 7-10 minutes. Otherwise you'll pull a tendon in your arm(s) and not be able to climb for weeks.

There are stages that you'll go through:

  1. Sore forearms and fingers

Do push ups on days you don't climb to help build up your muscles a bit more. The forearm and finger soreness gets better fairly quickly (at least for me) as long as you're consistently climbing. I think i stopped having ridiculously sore forearms after about 2-3 weeks.

  2. Blisters

Most likely the skin on your fingers isn't used to the feeling of basically rubbing sandpaper on it for hours at a time, so even though your forearms may be feeling better, all that climbing has now caught up to your soft fingers and fingertips and you'll probably get some nasty blisters on your fingers (pinky specifically). For that, i recommend getting climbing tape, and just taping over the cuts and sores until the heal and turn to callus.

  3. Skin is constantly torn up

Once you've been climbing for about 1.5-2 months consistently, your hands will start to feel a bit rougher and you'll be able to get some of those crimps and slopers you couldn't before. But that doesn't mean you still aren't irritating your skin and turning it red raw. When you go to grab a hold and it just feels like fire, that's when you know it's probably time to stop for the day. I got to point where I had to stop for about 5 days (it felt like a lifetime) because my hands just weren't healing fast enough.

Buy this it's climb on! an amazing lotion bar that heals your hands SO fast. i use it daily and on days that i climb, i use it right when i get home and that burning sensation is just gone and my hands feel rejuvenated. It's literally saved my ability to continue climbing. It's not greasy, it smells good and it's even edible (not that you'd WANT to eat it). couldn't recommend it more, i'm actually addicted to it i think.

Hope this helps man! And sorry for making this so long, i just feel obligated since i just went through the exact process you're about to go through.

As for full body workout, you'll definitely feel fairly sore almost everywhere after a solid day of climbing, but its definitely like 60/40 upper body to lower body.

tl;dr: you'll get sore, it'll pass. use tape on wounds, and heal them with climb on.
u/quantumraiders · 8 pointsr/weightroom

Climb on Bar is super helpful. I bought one after my calluses started getting bad from climbing and lifting - just rub a little on at night to help soothe your hands.

Theres also no rinse soaps and shampoos https://www.amazon.com/No-Rinse-Body-Bath-Refreshed-Odor-Free/dp/B000093I60
My mom had some and she used them sometimes on my dad and grandma, but I don't know for how many consecutive days and I dont know what the guidance is for them. She eventually did get them into the shower.

Just putting it out there as an option while you figure out what tricks will work to get her into a real washing. :)

I'm loving my Panasonic Facial Trimmer. No cuts, ingrown hairs or PIH! It's way gentler than tweezing.

I bought Benton High Content Snail Bee Skin, Lotion and Mask Packs. The Skin and Mask Packs are long-time favs and the Lotion is a new addition. The Skin and Lotion were a steal - $9 for 5 oz on Amazon Prime. Yay for snail-y, niacinamide-filled goodness!

In the beginning of the month, I started Curology (4% Azelaic Acid | 1% Clindamycin | 4% Niacinamide). I'll replace niacinamide with tretinoin soon - my provider is being cautious and tons of my skincare includes niacinamide. I switched from generic tretinoin gel 0.01% to Curology to avoid drying alcohol and try azelaic acid (for acne and PIH). So far so good!

I'm on a quest to find fragrance-free, low pH (goal: pH 5.5) body washes. I want to snag CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash or Aquaphor Gentle Body Wash as soon as I find them in a brick-and-mortar store. Here's a list I've compiled with * next to ones I've tried:

I have found that an apple cider vinegar rinse every other week or so works great! My hair blow dries a lot faster and it seems fluffier. I ordered one off amazon that’s actually a shampoo scented like apples for like $4-5 bucks. Best investment for my hair in awhile.

u/LaLaLeapYear · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

About your age here!

I have pretty difficult skin... it's sensitive and gets rashes in response to all sorts of things, I have PIH (every time I get a pimple, after it heals, a dark mark stays on my skin for weeks and weeks), it gets oily and dry, the works. I ended up on this subreddit seeking help, and though I'm still experimenting with some things, it's DEFINITELY getting better.

I usually shower twice a day just because gym time works out in the middle of my schedule. I do my face washing in the shower, and I have the generic Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle body wash. It's actually pretty good on your face. I also have the Cerave hydrating face wash, but I'm not sure lately if it adds anything. Maybe. For now the Tea Tree Tingle seems to be doing just fine.

Every few days I use the St. Ives Pads. I know a lot of people on here recommend the Stridex, but my hyper-sensitive skin had a conniption about those.

By day, my moisturizer is the Cerave in the tub and they are NOT KIDDING. Of all the products I've tried courtesy of this sub, this is the #1 most helpful thing I've discovered yet.

At night, in hopes of treating my PIH, I've been experimenting with Retinol. They say it takes a long time to notice any difference. They're right. I've noticed no difference. BUT thus far, my skin hasn't broken out, gotten blotchy or rashy, or otherwise freaked out over this stuff, so... I'll hang in there.

Oh, and Sunscreen. I use Neutrogena Sensitive Skin. I recommend starting with VERY LITTLE and working it in one section at a time. It's easy to go overboard and end up with caked-on white face.

PROTIP WITH SUNSCREEN: you guessed it: there have been cases of melanoma in my family and I freckle out a lot and have a high risk (I told you my skin was difficult). ALWAYS remember to put sunscreen all over your ears (front and back) and on the tops of your feet/toes. People don't think to cover these areas and don't check for melanoma there in time, usually.

Oh, and last: I've tried the Aztec Healing Clay twice now as I've needed to get rid of blackheads or calm things down a bit. Definitely use Apple Cider Vinegar, that stuff is the best.

ORDER OF OPERATIONS

  1. in shower, Tea Tree Tingle or Cerave hydrating face wash

  2. (only 2-3x/week) St. Ives Pads

  3. Moisturizer Cerave in the tub or Retinol

  4. By day: Neutrogena Sensitive Skin sunscreen

  5. Randomly on a Saturday afternoon if my skin's been having freak-outs, Aztec Healing Clay

I'm pretty new at this myself, but so far it's working out pretty well. I started with the Beginner's Skincare Routine as a rough guide and otherwise lurked around figuring things out (which is still pretty much how I'm handling it). So far, awesome sub, and found a lot of this has been really helpful!
u/sunshine7181 · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

You can absolutely use facial products on your back. Have you tried using a body cleanser with salicylic acid? Phisoderm makes one - link here - that I've tried myself and also tried out on my husband. It keeps acne at bay and heals up whiteheads as well.

I have used CoxRx AHA once or twice when I got unfortunate pimples on my chest from sweating while working out in the yard. Cleared it right up.

Also, to the comment about washing hair. I'd recommend washing and conditioning your hair and then washing your back. Some hair products, especially the conditioner, can clog your pores if left on your skin.

u/Swablus · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

As someone who has been using Dove soap for many years, I honestly have not spotted a difference. However, personally I've moved locations and so I know for sure that I'm sensitive to the water (hard water) as I started to develop rashes on my skin after a lukewarm shower. If Dove doesn't work for you anymore, I recommend you trying out Cetaphil (Gentle) and/or CeraVe bar soap as they're equally great for sensitive skin. I've tried CeraVe soap and I love it :-)

u/themandober · 3 pointsr/rawdenim

Best smelling all in one shower wash: 18.21 Man Made. I only use it as a body wash; wife loves it, dogs approve, makes me less of a caveman on the regular. Can't explain just how nice this stuff is.

u/halobreaker · 2 pointsr/fragrance

Although it's not my favorite cologne (I have a decant), I use 18.21 Man Made Wash (home) during the winter. The bottle is huge and reasonably priced. It's a heavy tobacco fragrance (i.e. Cuban cigar). The conditioner in it works well as a lotion to keep my skin from drying out. I don't use it as a shampoo, though. I use Lock Stock & Barrel for that.

u/ArtsyFartsyAlcoholic · 2 pointsr/migraine

It worked for me too. This morning I had to wake up extra early but had a migraine just starting so I hopped in the shower and used my peppermint scented conditioner from Trader Joe's, after a few minutes I felt fine. If you have TJ near you I highly recommend getting this shampoo and conditioner set (I think they're less than $5/each). Not only are they nice for your hair and scalp they're also great for when you feel a migraine coming on.

Edit: The name is Tea Tree Tingle, it has peppermint and eucalyptus in it. I might be wrong about the price because in Amazon they're nearly $12 per bottle. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002LMBLTY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2UQUzb878K4SS

Edit 2: There's also a body wash version! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002LMCFFS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rUQUzbM6GFRF0

u/snow_leopard77 · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Aveeno has a very good fragrance-free body wash. But if you're near a Target, you can just use their knock-off version for $3. I do this.

On the more expensive side, Cerave now has a fragrance-free body wash with excellent ingredients for $10 on amazon. If you have very sensitive skin, this might be worth trying.

u/GetOffMyLawn_ · 2 pointsr/Fibromyalgia

Try getting a low flow showerhead, also try a handheld showerhead so you have more control over the water flow. Also a shower stool helps a lot with any fatigue issue. Cooler showers are supposedly better because they don't trigger blood pressure issues, but I hate the cold. But too hot and and I have other problems. You can get a filter that filters out the chlorine in case that's what's bothering you.

Also, you don't have to wash everything when you shower. Just the dirty bits. So your hair (if needed) face, armpits, groin, between the toes, and then under skin folds if you have any (like under breasts). No need to scrub either. Save the full body wash for once a week or whenever. If your skin is still sensitive see if you can find something very mild and unscented to wash with. Cetaphil makes a cleansing bar. It's not soap and it's not drying like soap. Ivory soap might be okay because it doesn't have a lot of additives but it is drying. I like olive oil soaps. Many of them are herbal but you can find plain ones. Glycerine soap is also better tolerated by some people.

If drying off is a problem then wrap yourself in a terry robe and sit or lie down and air dry. You can turn on a fan if you need more help. Some people use a hair dryer to dry off. Obviously make sure it has a GFCI plug or you plug it into a GFCI outlet.

If it's the water itself that is hurting you can buy waterless or no rinse cleanser like they use on people in hospitals. https://www.amazon.com/No-Rinse-Body-Bath-16/dp/B000093I60?th=1

Microfiber towels might be gentler on your skin than terry towels. And blot don't rub.

Thanks for the contest!

u/baconatedbacon · 2 pointsr/preppers

I'm glad you made it without too much trouble. Here's my thoughts:

Cooking: If you can avoid it, do so. I suggest a pantry with things that are low prep and require little cooking. Maintaining a good pantry is a lost art amongst my generation. Friends of mine have a pantry with nothing but spices in it. Peanut butter and honey are essential items in my pantry. This, like with planning meals, it is essential you stock items you eat normally. Low prep items might be things like bread and a can of tuna, bread and peanut butter, dry cereal, power bars, powdered drinks (koolaide, gatoraide), applesauce, jerky, crackers and spray cheese, canned items like spaghetti-o's, baked beans, soups/stews, etc. Get creative, you'd be surprised what you can come up with without needing to cook. MRE's were mentioned but they violate my advise of prepping with what you normally eat. Think about your options and maintain a rotating stock of these items. That way you can always eat what you normally eat but have unopened quantities in times of crisis. As you build out these items, try to note how long it takes you to go through them and you'll get a sense for how much you should store. You don't have to create a well-stocked pantry over night. Just buy a bit extra when you do your normal shopping.

Safety: I think you have the right idea.

Heat: While there are powered fans don't forget the old fashioned folded paper fans. They aren't as good as A/C by a long shot but any relief from the heat will help.

Baths: Just remember a bath is a luxury in a crisis and that many Europeans go several days between showers. If you must, there are no rinse body washes and shampoos, some of which even come in the form of a wipe such as https://www.amazon.com/No-Rinse-Body-Bath-16/dp/B000093I60?th=1
Will it be as good as a shower? Heck no. But I appreciate feeling cleaner does grant a major morale boost.

Boredom: A deck of cards is standard issue but I appreciate that gets old fast. I keep a few books unread on my bookshelf. It's a natural side effect of having a busy life anyway. I think reading is probably one of the better ways to pass the time.

Helping: It's always good to be neighborly like this.

u/shinepuppy · 2 pointsr/tattoos

What is a normal life? A "normal" life is just the typical regular behaviors we've come to accept as being commonplace. But there are many variants on living that have different behaviors. People go climb mountains or they hike trails that take months to finish or they sail around the world, etc.

For astronauts eating is not too exceptional. They basically eat the equivalent of MREs. Weightlessness adds a little complexity but not a ton. Your body isn't dependent on gravity for chewing, swallowing, or digestion (you could eat upside down, you can even drink water upside down though it can be a little tricky). Going to the bathroom in space is easy, doing it without making a mess is a bit more difficult. On the ISS astronauts use a device that pulls a small vacuum, pulling the waste away from the body quickly and funneling it into a waste collection tank.

On the ISS astronauts do not shower, instead they basically give themselves a "sponge bath" using a no-rinse cleaner (you can actually buy the same cleaner astronauts use). This isn't exactly "abnormal" people climbing mountains or hiking the Apalachian trail also don't take showers every day.

They also don't wash their clothes. They don't spend a lot of time outside in the dirt (there is no dirt) so their clothes don't get very soiled. They have an allotment of clothing they go through during their stay and then they just toss it when they're done with it.

There have been several studies on showers or washing machines on space stations and they're very much possible, the current ISS just didn't have budget or space for such things.

Sulfur wash recommendations?

My dermatologist initially prescribed a sulfur wash for some stubborn acne that I've been experiencing over the last few months, but it wasn't covered by insurance and cost almost $500. So she said to look for one on Amazon. I ended purchasing this one: 10% Sulfur Soap All Natural Fresh Scent. Fragrance Free. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00AZD8L1W/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_HWQZDbQMFBQ2P

I've (F26) been using it on and off for about two weeks now but I'm noticing very small pustules in odd places like the top of my cheeks and on my nose, which I usually don't experience. My question is two parts: does anyone have any positive experiences using sulfur wash for acne, and, if so, do you have any product recommendations?

My routine below is as follows:

Skin type: combo, acne prone

Location: northeast United States

AM Routine:

  1. Rinse with warm water
  2. Paula's Choice Vitamin C Serum
  3. CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion
  4. CeraVe Ultra-Light Moisturizing Face Lotion with Sunscreen - SPF 30 (I've suspected for awhile that this product is making my skin more oily than normal so I tried my routine today without it and sure enough my skin is less oily)

    PM Routine:
  5. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser
  6. Prescription tretinoin 0.05%
  7. Cetaphil moisturizing eye cream
  8. CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion

I also have been using Paula's Choice Azelaic Acid cream for some PIE and PIH from acne and silicone scar sheets for some bad PIE left from a boil I got on my cheek a month ago (I forgot to clean off my blue light glasses at work before wearing them which caused the infection)

And FINALLY, I was put on 5mg of Lexapro starting in mid July. About six weeks after that was when the breakouts started and got so out of control. I stopped taking it after three months while my dermatologist simultaneously put me on minocycline for two weeks. The acne improved during that time. Since then it has gotten better but it's starting to flair up again and I'm getting really frustrated with constantly trying to fight my acne and not seeing my skin go back to what it was. I get jawline acne that coordinates with my cycle but these latest breakouts are occuring at more random times in my cycle.

Do I just need to be more patient in letting my skin and hormones regulate? Is the sulfur wash worth it? I know I came here just to ask about to sulfur wash but if you think that it's another problem entirely I'm all ears. Anything to heal my skin and bring some of my confidence back. I feel like I'm doing my skin such an injustice with it in this condition and just want to help it go back to being acne free.

My daughter has extremely sensitive skin and all detergent based (SLS and the like) soaps irritate her skin. Here is what we found the most success with (after trying many!) They were not irritating: Dead Sea Salt Soap, African Black Soap, These are simple traditional soaps. They lack all of the extra ingredients and harsh detergents that are in usual drugstore brand soaps and body washes. She uses a single ingredient oil afterwards like sunflower oil or jojoba oil. Good luck!

Seconding what the previous poster said. I have a similar hair type - very thin/fine, but VERY dense so there is a LOT of it, and it gets oily quickly and doesn't hold volume past day 1 (and even that is because it likes the hair dryer). SLS/silicone-free shampoo really helps for me. I use Live Clean Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo, which I mention constantly on this sub but it's my HG and I will sing its praises until I am forcibly removed from the internet tbh.

You're never going to be able to compete with large commercial soaps on price. If you buy in bulk, you can get the price under $3 per pound not counting fragrance or essential oils. 10 bars of Ivory (2.4 pounds) will set you back $4, and you don't have to worry about splashing lye water in your kitchen. And speaking of fragrances, you can get soap made with Mysore essential sandalwood oil for about $6 per pound. You're not gonna be able to touch that at home.

I render my own tallow from trimmings I get for free, which brings the price down a little more. But still ... it's a hobby, not a cost-saving venture.

Hi! 23F here, I went to my gp and he prescribed differin for specifically bacne. I apply it on my chest, shoulders, neck, and back where my bra is. I’ve been using it ~2 months, the purge was hell but completely over and the irritation is finally getting less. I still can’t wear perfume for now and even crew neck shirts irritate my skin. But I can finally wear my off shoulder tops again and am not afraid of ‘breaking out’ before a date or so.

To keep it at bay, I’ve added to my evening shower routine:

For a less expensive brand that's still really good... I love Live Clean apple cider clarifying shampoo, it makes my hair very much lighter and shiny. If you live in a dry climate, though, I would recommend conditioning well after using it, and perhaps using an oil, as it does make my normally heavy hair kind of staticky.

I know a lot of our acne is hormonal, but i noticed a huge difference when I switched my cleaning products.

I tried every product for years and they didn't stop acne, maybe helped limit it but never fully gone (on or off birth control).

But now I use black soap with ash daily. After, I use pure aloe on my skin and for the first time I know of, my skin is almost clear. The only break outs are the nasty jawline hormone ones, but they're less and smaller.

I also started sleeping with a tshirt over my pillowcase, which I change at least once a week (some do it daily).

Birth control that lowers testosterone also helps, as well as some things people have mentioned about diet.

Edit: soap and aloe

Sunscreen, moisturizer, and gentle cleansers.

More specifically, I use CeraVe bar soap for cleansing my face and the same brand lotion for post-shower moisturizer.

  • How much confidence they give you even though most everyone is unaware they exist. Also, if you're a girl, you can see them through your shirt/swimsuit, etc. a lot of the time. Band-aids or slight padding will hide them when necessary.
  • Clean them every day. Use antibacterial soap like this (Soap) in the shower to clean them. Keep the crusties off the jewelry. I found mine healed faster and easier w/ straight barbells.
  • It didn't hurt at all. It was the opposite of pain..................ifyaknowwhatimean...
  • The peircer advised me to get them both done the same day. I guess it does hurt most people pretty bad so there's fear you won't go back for the other. Also, 2 healing periods would suck.
  • No pain, no gain.

My derm prescribed something but I use this amazing sulfur mask: AcneFree Sulfur Face mask and I’ve tried this sulfur soap from amazon which was pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/Sulfur-Natural-Fresh-Scent-Fragrance/dp/B00AZD8L1W
This one I used too: https://www.katesomerville.com/acne-products-eradikate-cleanser-clear-skin
What do you think?

u/bottlerockette · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

If you do find a chapstick or balm that works for you, try putting it on right before you go to sleep. You're less likely to lick it off while sleeping and it will help a ton with your lips drying out overnight (when I do this consistently my lips are almost never chapped and I don't need to reapply during the day or anything).

I've never really believed the "chapstick will make your lips need chapstick" idea, but that's just anecdotal. I definitely don't think your lips would get "addicted" or anything if you only put it on once a day.

Related advice: if your heels or hands dry out in the winter, climb on balm is the best thing ever. It's like magic for curing those nasty heel cracks, and it's made from food-grade natural ingredients. I've never tried it on my lips, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Edit: They make climb on chapstick. Basically beeswax + plant oils.

lol i use the bar soap This brand

you can also melt it into water and put it in a soap dispenser - this is what i did as it melts super quickly if left in the shower.

I recently started using Mario Badescu A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap and apply/scrub with this brush. It has helped keep my chest and back clear and makes my skin super soft.

I don't understand. Are you moisturizing twice? and why? Also, do you apply it all over your body or only certain parts? Same with the body wash.
Never used body wash so i'd like to start now. Should I use it all over?

Yup, I find that if I sleep with moisturizer my skin is just greasy in the morning, I don't know why it's like that, it just works better for me.

I don't like any brand name black soap, they have too many extra ingredients that seems to make my skin worse. I use authentic raw African Black soap, if you have any local organic grocers they should have it, if not, you can find it on amazon or eBay. It will be packaged either in plastic wrap or a container and will state which country it came from. I'll include a link from a search I did give it a try .

I hope this helps you like it helped me. It's taken me years to find something that worked.

u/quoolangote · 1 pointr/AskMen

Been getting compliments since I started using this all-in-one shampoo/showel gel. I don't even wear perfume or cologne anymore.

u/sarahdiddle · 1 pointr/TrollXChromosomes

I have found a magic product that works for my face and it's insane. I used to have the worst acne ever, which included the tiny pimples at my forehead from hair product/grease and the hat I have to wear for work. Here's how I have been fighting the good fight but YMMV.

Step 1: Basic routine on /r/SkincareAddiction.

Step 2: Replace cleanser with black african soap.

Pimples have magically disappeared for me. But as a warning, the soap might burn your face at first. It didn't happen to me but it's in the reviews.

u/catloving · 1 pointr/AskMen

I have cystic acne all over my face and shoulders and chest (fyi I'm female, is that ok?)

I have to take a pill that balances my hormones but that's a pretty big move for me. Salcylic Acid (aka old school aspirin) is what helps me clear and dry out pimples/ones starting to come up. I use this for my face Phisoderm That's for my face.

Now for my body, I use the poof thingies with this: Body Wash This helps.

And yes, water like all get out, less processed food if possible, and see if a doctor could prescribe you clindamycin phosphate topical gel. You spread that over your face/shoulders/whatever (thinly) and it gets absorbed in the skin. It's an antibiotic. What's even better is that this one stays in the skin, so it's not just kill the stuff on the top, it's kill stuff on the top and if things below it are starting, well, there you go.
But that's prescribed only. Go see your doctor.

Change sheets often but PILLOWCASES DAILY. If you're having a horrid nasty-ass huge breakout, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TC9ladgGHto . Don't do it more than once a month - you will dry your skin out like heck.
Let us know!

Hey man! I used Phisoderm's Anti-Blemish Body Wash, about two bottles' worth until I figured that the back acne seemed to be largely under control. I declared it a safe zone and switched back to normal body washes. I also used Clearasil's Ultra Acne Pads to clean up my back acne, mostly around my shoulder blades, every night before I went to bed.

It also helps that I never wear the same shirt twice without washing it first. If I'd worn a shirt all day, I take it off and change it for a new one before bedtime. Wash or change your bath towel and pillowcases every time you do laundry, which for me was about once a week. And don't forget to change your bedsheets every so often.

This helped me a lot! I still have some acne on my face and one or two on my back, but I have it under control now. Just my advice. Good luck!

u/idk-gfy · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have been using african black soap for years, but i like the ones you buy in a big block a lot better than the shea moisture bars. I think many people find it to be quite drying, but it keeps my skin more clear and balanced than anything else I've ever used.

It smells WONDERFUL and the scent lingers all day.

u/resistfatdicktaters · 1 pointr/Dermatology

That's bs. When I had really bad flair ups from candida infection my belt buckle would give me pimplyb rashes. The best thing you can do is buy this soap, Yes To Tomatoes Bar Soap Activated Charcoal and use it daily.

Other than that, I'm a guy, so this is easier for me to do, but I wear two pairs of underwear. One boxer brief and one boxer and it gives me extra padding that helps keep that belt buckle from being able to rub.

Another thing is if you are sexually active, be sure that you showed after sex as soon as is feasible, but at least use a warm washrag to wash that area.

The best piece of advice you can ever get about keeping that area from breaking out is DON'T TOUCH IT. Keep your fingers and hands away. My rashes have almost completely stopped since I finally stopped myself from constantly inspecting and touching and putting me hands anywhere near that area.

That yes to tomatoes brand also makes wipes that are hypoallergenic and they are fucking amazing for cleaning your face or any area that has a high likelihood of rash or infection. Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Face Wipes for Clear Skin

I have extremely sensitive skin that breaks out very easily. When I switched to cruelty free products it took me a while to find something that didn't make me break out even more. I started Yes To Tomatoes and I absolutely love it! You can find it at Walmart, Target, pretty much anywhere that sells Yes To products. And since it's a bar and not liquid I feel that it last forever! It leaves my face feeling very clean without over drying it.

Whiteheads happen when there is dirt that is clogging the pore, so I think that it might be able to be resolved by:

  1. Using a different soap. Bar soap can be very drying sometimes and your skin might be sensitive to the fragrance. If you like bar soap, try using African Black Soap which is good for clearing acne:
    https://www.amazon.com/Shea-Moisture-African-Black-Butter/dp/B005C2N8IC

Or this body wash that has AHA, which is an exfoliant and is geared towards body acne:
    https://www.amazon.com/Mario-Badescu-Botanical-Body-Soap/dp/B002CBZB5E

  2. Although I know you said you want to shower every other day, you could always test out showering every day and see if that alone makes a difference. Sometimes fixing the problem has to do with other factors like are you taking a shower right after you work out so sweat doesn’t clog your pores, or even how often you change your bed sheets.

It might also help to shower in warm water to open your pores and then before you get out, turn the water temperature to cold so it closes your pores. This could potentially fix the dry skin problem if you usually shower in hot water, which is drying.

Added: Also make sure you’re washing all the soap off your back. If you think you’ve rinsed it all off, rinse again. Sometimes it’s just that there’s soap residue left (which also happens with a lot of bar soaps).

Late to answer so this will get buried, but give charcoal soap a try. I don't lift but I do aerials (pole/hoop/silks) and my hands get slick SO quickly. Wash your hands with a soap like this one before you start your session. It seems to draw a lot of the moisture out, and leaves my hands more dry throughout the typical hour-long class

Hey, I am looking to start a skin care regime but i have little to no knowledge on pretty much everything. so i have a lot of questions, i apologize if this isnt the right place but hopefully im not breaking any rules. as some background I am a 23 year old guy, tend to have pretty oily skin, and i have some issues with acne and back acne. I was hoping for some feedback about what i plan on starting.

first off I am thinking of using a combination of these things:
facial cleanser and body cleanser while showering,

than i would also suppliment with:

a facial cleanser, exfoliator, and moisturizer at night.
I got most of these items from beginner guide on this sub, but what i was wondering is if any of these products are redundant or unneeded if my goal is for a simple and relatively cheap routine? Additionally i was wondering if anyone could roughly predict how long these volumes would last?
Any help would be really appreciated!! Thank you!!
