There are a lot of tracking mounts on the market. Just a few of the popular ones:

  • Star Adventurer - $320
  • iOptron SkyTracker - $280
  • Polarie Vixen - $400
  • Nyx Tracker - $89

Of these, it seems that the Star Adventurer is the best performing at ~40 arcsec of periodic error. Performance of the Nyx Tracker scales proportionally with price, but still good enough to take 5x longer exposures than without a tracker. [A disclaimer - the Nyx Tracker is my product, designed as a budget option for those testing the waters or that want a portable, light, rugged, easy to use option].

Sure, it's pretty straight forward.

I used this L Bracket
to mount this
Gimbal. For lighting up my dark house/living room, this
LED Light works great. It's very bright.

To mount my old iPhone 4s as a monitor, I used a couple of these and a cheap iPhone case.

This produces very stable videos that turn out great for indoor parties, Christmas morning, etc. The WG gimbal mounts easily on my moutain bike or helmet as well, it's very flexible.

u/WormSlayer · 9 pointsr/oculus

I used these to stick my sensors up on the ceiling.

u/other-brother-darryl · 4 pointsr/flyfishing

Ok here's what i did since

A) I didn't want to spend the $$ on a go pro and

B) I wanted a camera that is easily scripted (or hackable if you will).

I got the Xiaomi Yi Action cam with the water proof case for about $75

Stuffed it with memory

Grabbed some adhesive mounts for $8

And enabled this script that allows you to just push the on button when you hook a fish and the cam will take a photo every two seconds until you shut it off. You end up with a lot of photos but it's easy to sort though and just grab the good ones. The script also allows you to set different exposure and quality settings which make for some great pics.

If you go this route hit me up once you get the cam and I'll share out there script I use.

/u/aw2 - I built this DIY "rifle-style" rig for my Panasonic cameras, as seen [here] (https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipN7_t6Km4sMaFmKdAKV4CI3Ldq-QCzDcELc4L5Z8z9-lHYe7_3D1fKnb572z9kGjw/photo/AF1QipNqHuk3NZsHJdX9opwYVX0Bi-JCQFa3p0xdTLh8?key=emJQZUpyWWxFc0FSYll0TWxhOGRYdy1tUlR2bERR) with the GH4 and a ring light.

It's a great setup for run and gun.

Here is the parts list (total for the basic rig is a little over $130):

Basic Rig

u/jcoopr86 · 3 pointsr/hockeygoalies

$11 - far more secure.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B9N6P5G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ORkxxbDQW9TJX

$13 - also more secure

https://www.amazon.com/TELESIN-Degree-Rotary-Wrist-Rotation/dp/B00NPRK5F0/ref=sr_1_5?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1465697789&sr=1-5&keywords=go+pro+wrist+strap

It makes sense as your $50 price point puts you at about 333% profit margin and that's being conservative given that the estimate I have on materials is pretty lofty. If this is 3D printed or even machined aluminum, $15 per unit cost is pretty high. Average profit margins for companies with $2m in revenue hover between 10% and 30% - that's the world where a 25% profit margin makes sense; the real world.

I use something like this on my rig. You will also need the Tripod mount from GoPro.

A clamp mount is really the only one I can think of that would work. I’m not sure how much pressure it could put on the flute, so be careful.

Edit: This one looks a bit oversized. GoPro sells a more appropriately sized one, however it’s a little more pricey.

u/io-io · 3 pointsr/AskPhotography

Personally, I would go with a used body and lens. A cropped body would be the smallest, lightest and most inexpensive way to go.

  • Something like a Pentax K5 (~$200) or Nikon D7000 both of which are 16MP using a Sony sensor which is know for excellent color and great dynamic range. These bodies are built for rugged use. The K5 has image stabilization built into the body so any lens used can be stabilized. You are going to be shooting at a very low ISO (80 to 100) in order to reduce sensor noise in order to capture the cleanest best shot possible.

  • For a lens I would go with something like a Pentax DA 15mm f4 (~$300). This is a small light weight lens with great color contrast and excellent flare control. You are going to be shooting at f5.6 to f8 so that you will have excellent depth of field (everything in excellent focus) and at the lens' best resolution. You can also grab a kit lens 18-55 for around ~$50 or so that would provide a bit more versatility.

  • You will also need a tripod (especially for night shots). Something small - possibly a railing clamp with a ballhead on it. This way you will have no movement in your frame. https://www.amazon.com/Release-Threaded-Monitor-Microphone-Motorcycle/dp/B01EQF082E probably up to $50 for the clamp and then another $50 to $100 for a real ballhead. https://www.adorama.com/vgtbh45.html

  • You will also need an external shutter release. This way you can trip the camera with out touching it - and introducing motion blur into the shot. These run about $10. Probably some extra batteries - 3rd party like Wasabi - running about $15 each (at least 1).

  • You will need a small bag/backpack to carry it all in. Runs around $40. I have one of these. The padded bottom compartment will easily hold the camera & lens along with the clamp/ballhead, with room in the backpack for a lot of other stuff. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lowepro-Compudaypack-Camera-Photography-Backpack-Bag-Case-Back-Pack-/222720977114

So, that is a complete setup for about $650. All you need to do is provide the vantage point and shoot the image.

  • You might also consider an older version of LightRoom (ver 5) that you can find for about $50 to $75 for post processing your shots. Always shoot in RAW for best results.

Happy to help!

Putting the 80ED on a regular (non tracking GEM) tripod will unfortunately be a waste of time if you want to shoot galaxies and other deep space objects. The issue is that they are extremely faint, and you need long exposures to capture the little light that they give off. So if the mount on the tripod is not moving along the earths axis at the same speed that the earth rotates all you'll get is a bunch of star trails. And even with a GEM mount it's still highly recommended that you use computer guiding to make up for mechanical errors while shooting. So yes, keep saving...trust me it will be worth it.

So there are smaller mounts that track the Earth's rotation albeit not as effectively as a big telescope tracking mount. This isn't a major issue however because they're designed to mount DSLR's and not long focal length telescopes. Here are a few examples of what people have shot with their DSLR and the smaller mounts:

  • Orion
  • M31
  • Lagoon & Trifid

These were shot with DSLR's and the iOptron SkyTracker you can also buy it's competitor the SkyWatcher Star Adventurer

You'll need to attach that head to a sturdy tripod, and I should say that I'm not sure if this is the latest gen...you might want to look into that.

There are some large objects in the sky which widefield shots (DSLR lenses) are great for. M31 is about three times the size of the moon in the sky...it's hard to capture it all in a telescope but much easier with a DSLR and wider lens. I would say that if you want to get into it at a low cost, then this is your best bet. I don't want to encourage you to try astrophotography with a telescope and your current budget because it will be so frustrating that you'll risk giving up this awesome hobby entirely.

Velcro the mount to the wall. It holds just fine. You can take the mount down anytime and it barely leaves a trace. Just a small clear Velcro tape that no one will notice.

I think it's the Delkin Fat Gecko Triple Suction Mount.

This seems to be the only one that has the third cup on a rotational ball.

+1 on the Hero 2, Same experiences as you. Though one hour of video is roughly 6Gigs at 1080p, so with a 32GB card, its not a prob. I just brought an extra battery (~7.99$) off Amazon (hero2HD), Just a matter of stopping and changing. Within that 2 hours I always stop for something anyways. My goPro bike mount broke 2x and got this afterwards:

u/StrangeCharmVote · 3 pointsr/Vive

Get some clamps like these or something, and attach them wherever you want / can.

If you really really need to, you could also pick up Something like a short towel handrail and screw those into the wall in both of the rooms, so that you could move the clamps from one room to the other.

Not perfect as a solution, but it'll do in a pinch.

u/HeavyxSeas · 3 pointsr/Karting

For my videos I use this thing, which has a few variants out there: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G568QPC

I was looking for a solution that wasn't permanent so I could loan my gopro to other drivers to see what they were doing differently, this seemed like a pretty reasonably priced option and it's worked well so far. It has straps that you just tighten around the chin area, and stays pretty well, hasn't started to be loose for me yet. It doesn't allow you to close the visor completely, but it's super close, and I haven't had any debris end up in my helmet from the small amount it's open. The only annoyance I have so far is the bracket that it comes with to attach to your gopro was a little difficult to put on.

u/bms5148 · 3 pointsr/Velo

I saw the complaints about the GoPro mount causing a lot of shake. So I decided I might as well throw down for the K-Edge Pro mount which had awesome reviews, and watched a youtube video comparing the two. Here is how I mounted the GoPro, next time i'll probably mount it on the other side of the stem so that my right hand fingers are not in the shot. Taking it mountain biking tonight, so i'll see how it fairs in that terrain.

u/SeanBlader · 3 pointsr/bicycling

Here's the mount I use:
http://amzn.com/B005YVTKT2

I hang my GoPro under it with it set to wide angle and upside down video. Makes for a really stable video platform.

u/woox13 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Once the adhesive is bonded, it probably wont be as strong when you remount it.

That being said you can still use screws to secure.

Otherwise you can always buy replacement adhesive pads (search 3M VHB adhesive).

Hey fai1, I bought this EVO pole from Amazon for a recent trip to Iceland. It handled the sulfur hot springs and salt water like a champ. The telescoping section is all clear so it's less distracting in videos and plastic is lighter and less likely to corrode than the GoPro branded poles. The main pole is watertight unless you open the twist joint under water, then it will fill and sink. I locked it before submersion so it would float. When I was done shooting for the day, I submerged the whole pole and let it fill with tap water to clear out residue before opening the twist joint and resting the pole upside-down to let the water drain out. Good luck!

u/ak619 · 2 pointsr/gopro

Looking for something similar. Thinking about getting this one

Anyone have experience with it?

u/jacobgu3 · 2 pointsr/drumline

Head mounts are difficult to get right. If you don’t want to use a head mount, try using the jaw clamp mount.

Link Here

This can clip to the rim of a snare or tenor, or the tension rods on the sides of a snare in order to get a nice angle of the drum, your hands, and possibly your face depending on how you want it set up.

Good luck!

Currently a cheap one off amazon. I wanted to test before going all in and it does pretty good. My helmet has a ton of vents and odd geometry so I cant use most of the adhesive ones.

Also my first Coachella with my Hero 6!

I'm outfitting my Hero 6 with a 128GB Samsung MicroSD card.

For power, I'm bringing in two precharged spare batteries for a total of 3 batteries.

For my grip, I'm bringing in the handler as my grip. I thought about the Karma grip but it's kinda expensive and won't last the whole day in the fest; I also don't know how I would store it. What's important here is that you can't bring a grip that extends like a selfie-stick, those are banned from the grounds. If you have a hard time, kindly explain to the security guard that the grip doesn't extend and is fixed at 6-inches. I had a friend go to W1 last year with a Karma grip and she just explained that it didn't extend so she was good.

Since I'm bringing in a CamelBak, I wanted somewhere to place the GoPro when it's not on the grip and without having to worry about pickpocketers. I tried out several backpack clips like this one or this one but I essentially decided that I wanted to make sure it would quick-release to the grip for easy transitions. The clip that did have that feature broke pretty quickly so I'm going to try out this one and give it a shot with some velcro. It seems pretty sturdy. To get the camera fully upright, you're going to need a j-hook mount or a raised mount like the one included in the official mount set.

The alternative to any backpack solution is just unclip the GoPro into a fanny pack or a front pocket for safe keeping and store the grip into a backpack.

u/DesignNomad · 2 pointsr/gopro

New GoPros come with sticky/adhesive mounts in the box, so you might have the truck covered with those. For the bike, the Chesty mount or vented helmet strap would be good picks, though there are some great bike mounts too (just aren't as versatile).

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/gopro

After reading a bunch of poor reviews on the handlebar mount awhile back I decided to get this one instead. http://www.amazon.com/ARKON-GP134-Zip-Tie-Style-Bicycle/dp/B00B9N6P5G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369608345&sr=8-1&keywords=go+pro+arkon
Unfortunately I haven't tried it on my bike yet but it seems much more versatile and the reviews were good. Its got a bit of foam around the base of it that might help with the vibration issue.

Although if the vibration issue is with the bike itself a helmet mount might be the way to go; your head is usually the most steady thing in anything that you do.

u/Dumetella · 2 pointsr/gopro

Something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/ARKON-GP134-Zip-Tie-Style-Bicycle/dp/B00B9N6P5G

I use GoPro Mounting Adhesive mounts & GoPro brackets and made a loop with paracord that ran through the normal GoPro brackets. Then I just use 20" cinch straps that I cut from a pair of old 72" tie-down straps.

I haven't used these EZ Deck Plugs, but they probably work fine. I like the gopro mounts because I can actually just use them for the GoPro when I don't have a cooler on my board. And, I can slide the brackets on or off depending if I'm using them.

I can send you pictures if you want to see.

I personally use ratcheting cargo bars for the lighthouses as they are quick to setup/remove and cheap. This setup would allow you to mount pretty much up to the ceiling.

u/thehelios · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

It looks like a suction cup or some sort of other mount on the tank. The camera would've been way less table with the chest mount.

This is the suction mount I used to use on my tank before I put a permanent one on the top front of the tank:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GMCLLYE/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It can get very tall so it will have more view and less tank in the FOV.

u/Vagrant_Charlatan · 2 pointsr/Vive

You technically could put them on the floor, I've done it and had good tracking, but yeah that's not a good long term solution haha. I got these, peeled off the glue, and used the dual locking 3M strips so I can take them down and move them if necessary.

u/Jaymacibe · 2 pointsr/oculus

I got this idea from another reddit user.

I bought 2 of https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BPRLV8M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Cheep and works.

The drum mount had the arm I needed to get out in front of the chin, the three-way articulated elbow thingy..as it both bends and rotates....and the smaller thumb screws...

the other had the curve sticky mount and taller mount shoe to allow the arm to lay flatter against the helmet.

The Bluetooth is

https://www.ucleardigital.com/shop/helmet-communications/bluetooth/motorcycle/motion-infinity-bluetooth-helmet-audio-system-single-kit/

I love the Bluetooth . It gets loud enough to hurt your ears without distortion.
The mics do well enough considering the following helmet info below....
The buttons are big and dumb and easy to use and the app has some neat features...like equalizer adj....
It does have this " gestures" feature ..like you wave your hands around certain ways and it does " things" .... I had to turn that off In the app almost immediately.
I actually noticed it because there is an IR emitter on the lower portion below the buttons that I noticed while taking a picture..but then a couple days later while riding it was randomly doing "things"... Like stopping the music or changing the volume... It took me a couple miles to figure out what the hell was going on...That s*** had to go!
Though maybe I'll jack with it later and try to embrace it It might have some adjustments.. I haven't looked...

The helmet honestly is a cheapo from cycle gear, they have retail location here in Sanjose area.

"SEDICI " brand

It was on sale.. I think I paid like 100$
I really kinda wish I had been more patient and spent 100$ more. But it gets the job done.

And to be honest ...the lense hinge system sucks and it's windy AF from under the chin ..

I did fab up a custom chin skirt that helps a little... by cutting the side out of the "sock" the helmet came in...adding some bungee shoelace and just stapling it to the back of the helmet chin foam piece.. with a regular ass desk stapler.

I intentionally left slack in the cloth because the bungee cord tightens it up under my chin. And basically so you can get your head in..

http://imgur.com/a/1HDmbE7

but anything over 50mph is loud but tolerable....even enough to fight through a quick phone call, maybe....., 80mph is ...just forget music..

I'd imagine it wouldn't be so bad with a windshield to blow the wind over the top a little better. Even a KLR or CBR might divert enough wind.

It did have a Moto style visor that I took off because it caught wind.... But I might put it back as it seemed The lens operated better that way... Like you know when you turn your head and your lens flips up!!wtf!?!

To be fair I think it's just simply not designed for road use..it would be plenty fine off road or At least no highway...
So sad cause it is actually pretty comfortable.

I have other helmets in Georgia as I also have other bikes.
but, I'm on the other side of the country and when I got the bike...I needed to ride this damn thing like right now!!!

Lesson learned!

Also if you're looking for "stuff to do"
Cycle gear has a USB adapter that plugs right into the "battery tender" pigtail you prob already have...
Battery tender has one also but it's just a little brick...this one has a long enough whip to make from the battery up to the tripletree. After that any ol' USB cable for your phone..
between that and the ram mount.... definitely a must...

For MTB you'll need a gimbal, otherwise the jitteriness will drive your viewers insane!

I was able to get some decent video by attaching my camera (Hero 2) to the handlebar and under the seat using the K-edge mounts (handlebar, and underseat links), they are Machined aluminum, so they can be snug and the camera won't move, the original gopro handlebar mount is not very good and the camera will move. Here's a video I made with those mounts that was made with the Hero2, the front view was on a rigid fat bike and the back view on a hardtail MTB.
Hope that helps :)

Thanks! I put my GoPro on Burst mode to capture it. I originally was trying to get it half under water & half above, but that didn't happen lol. I believe I did 30 frames per 1 second. I know it's a lot of pictures, but I wanted a good shot and usually you will get a couple great ones out of the 30 that I took. I always have Protune on. White balance-5500k, Color-Gopro color, Iso-800, High sharpness, Exposure-0.
I can look again, but I'm pretty sure that is the settings I had selected.

Accessories: I have the GoPole Evo-http://www.amazon.com/GPE-10-Floating-Extension-Cameras-Transparent/dp/B00B3YJG5C

Make it easier. Do an Amazon search for "tripod clamp" and put it on the side, I just did the search and had a ton of hits. u/prjindigo · 1 pointr/astrophotography

Sorry was being terse:

The trick is to have the duration of the star-trail stay within the airy disk of the star, to maintain a more oval object than a line. Most of my pure-camera astrophotography was done with 1000ASA monochrome and 3200ASA color film on a camera using a 1.8. 18 seconds was about the limit on the monochrome but the 3200 Konica was so grainy that I could get 23 seconds. The more choke you put on the light path the longer you need to expose it. The 18mp and larger sensors on modern cameras are getting up into the resolution of the monochrome film I used. (I did most the astrophoto at night in the winter in a Bortle 0 location.. where you couldn't see the snow you were standing in.)

So what happens when you use the tighter F-stop is you get less airy-disk to hide trails in and thus need shorter exposures to reduce the "line" effect.

You should run the lens wide open and reduce the speed of the sensor until you get the image you want. Making the f-stop tighter reduces your light gathering in astrophotography and requires either higher sensor settings or longer duration of exposure - Higher sensor settings will create distortion in the histogram and generates more base noise that has to be filtered out by circuitry that isn't designed for astrophotos.

Always run with the aperture wide open using the slowest sensor that will give you the exposures you need. Pushing the f-stop up just makes you need more exposures of shorter duration.

This is where simple clock-drive mounts come in. A clock drive mount doesn't have to be super precise to quadruple your wide-field exposures. Just about any old Tasco motorized equatorial mount will keep a 18 to 55mm lens on-track for a useful period of time, you can usually find em at the junk tables at flea markets. Or you can bust for http://www.amazon.com/SkyWatcher-S20520-Adventurer-Photo-Package/dp/B00Z4HVR7Y/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1457621801&sr=8-5&keywords=tracking+camera+mount+astrophotography kinds of systems that are portable full equatorial and programmable units.

Lots of cheap options.

I feel like your crotch is on my head.

But seriously if you want to capture footage I recommend to go with aftermarket attachments, the ones that come with the GoPro are very shitty, I use two K-EDGE Mounts and they are great (but a little expensive) once you install them that camera ain't moving and the footage is considerably less shaky.

I'm planning to buy this tracker as a starter, and I'm between buying this telephoto lens or this telephoto lens. I have the official handlebar mount (https://www.amazon.com/GoPro-Handlebar-Seatpost-Mount-Official/dp/B01L2CQCJC) for my H7B to mount to my bicycle. While riding over rough roads (not even off-roading), the joint between the OEM housing and OEM base will slowly rotate, making the camera point down. This causes me to have to constantly readjust the camera whenever I hit a bump in the road. Is there a more grippy material or vibration dampening joint that I could use? I feel like if there was some sort of a rubbery coating on some of the interior faces in the hinge, that this wouldn't happen.

Until I upgraded to a GoPro for other reasons, I used one of the Amazon knock offs like this with a chin strap mount like this since I didn't like the idea of leaving something permanent mounted on my helmet. If you don't care about that, then using something like the sticky mounts or Sugru on your helmet is probably more stable.

Other options you might want to consider are using a chest mount to make the image a lot more stable. You might also want to check out a backpack strap mount for convenience.

> Personally In my car I use a Thinkware f770 with the rear cam. It does its job but I am less than I pleased with it. So I am in search of something more simple

What about it bothers you? Price? Bells and whistles?

To me the Thinkware F770 is Excellent parking mode, Excellent build quality, and good video quality. Excellent build quality isn't something you can replicate, or add on later, and it is hard to explain how much better Excellent is than good until you have gone through a few different dash cams, especially the poor build quality ones.

Example of poor build quality:

  • G1W-C(B) ($50-60 USD) - Good video quality, poor parking mode (lackluster), poor build quality. - Does strange things, doesn't keep date/time, LED light generally gets painted over, or sharpied, or taped over since it randomly turns on and gives the driver night blindness. - It is the best of the cheap/bad dash cams. I have one, I wouldn't purchase again.

    > I'm looking to spend less than $150, he doesn't need red light camera warnings, parking mode, and GPS (unless GPS is very important). This dashcam is mostly just for driving and insurance purposes- he doesn't need one with all the bells and whistles. 1080p 60fps with a 140+ degree angle preferable, only 1 channel is needed.

$150, fine. Less bells and whistles, fine. 1080P is very common, but you should learn the differences between Excellent/Good/Fair video quality. 60 fps is very uncommon, 30 fps is more common, if you need 60 fps you will have to go through the different dash cams and find it. 140+ degree angle lens, fine. 1 CH fine.

    > He also drives several different vehicles a week so portability is a must. A suction cup mount would be great!

This will be very hard. Most dash cams use an adhesive pad, because extreme heat, and extreme cold will cause a suction cup to fall off. Adhesive pad generally stays where it is.

    > We live in the DFW area in Texas. I can't take the risk with having a dashcam not working properly.

So you will need something with pretty extreme for heat tolerance. The Xiaomi Yi dashcam is out, Lipo battery will swell/crack/leak ect, and the lens can become unfocused because extreme heat can melt the glue that holds it.

    ----

  • Thinkware F50 1-CH ($69.99 USD) + Suction Cup mount ($14.99 USD) - Fair video quality, Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode. - Lacks a Wifi/cell phone app, but format free technology helps and reliability is top notch. ($69.99 USD) 2nd vendor. ($90-110 USD) - 3rd vendor. - There is a coupon code for this one in the video description.

  • A119 v2 ($90 USD) + Suction Cup Mount ($8.99 USD) + Micro SD card ($33.89 USD) - V1 had minor flaws but is cheaper - V2 corrected some of those flaws and had firmware improvements. + Known problems of the A119 Excellent video quality day/good night/good shadow, good/fair build quality, lackluster parking mode. Discreet.

  • Mobius ($80 USD) + Super Capacitor + Suction Cup Mount ($8.95 USD) + 12v to 5v Cig adapter + USB to USB Mini cable. - This one is much more DYI, and you will want to replace the Lipo battery with a super capacitor instructions. Heat tolerance might not be enough for Texas heat. Never the less it is a very cool dash cam, from the RC/Drone world, almost endlessly modifiable, and at the right price, but very hands on.

  • A118C ($50-$80 USD) - Where to purchase + Known Problems of A118C - Similar problems to A119, similar average build quality, similar parking mode (lackluster), fair/good video quality. - This one has also seen a price increase over time. - Also I can't find a suction cup mount for it.

  • BlackVue DR450-1CH ($119.99 USD) + Suction Cup Mount ($??? USD) couldn't find a mount for this one. - Excellent build quality, Excellent parking mode, lacks wifi, optional gps, lack of reviews.

If I were you, I would get the Thinkware F50 + suction mount , or A119 v2 + suction mount + Micro SD card MLC based, I really really like the BlackVue DR450-1CH, but I couldn't find a suction cup mount for it. More information would be needed if your father drives different cars, but the same cars over and over again, or if they are completely random and different cars.

Any old bike cover will generally do you just fine. Look for ones that have at least 1 strap connector underneath, to make sure the wind doesn't take it.

GoPro - chin-mounting is great, but handlebar mounting means it's easier to run power to it from the bike itself for infinite battery life. For bar mounting, I'd just grab their handlebar clamping accessory, for $23 it's better now than most aftermarket solutions. The Session 4 is super easy to use, but if you get the Session5, and do run external power to it, you have to remove that little external door for waterproofing and it's easy to lose, so keep track of it.

Otherwise for chin-mount to the helmet, I really like these guys, it's super effective. Attach the arms to the center piece, remove the 3M tape covers on all 3 parts, and press the middle on to the helmet first before pressing the arms down. Very secure mount in my humble opinion, and extra easy.

As with most products, there is a minor upgrade every year. And a sizeable price increase every year. The 7 and 8 are rather comparable with one of the bigger talking points being the 8's new stabilization. But keep in mind this is said every year, the 6 has better software than the 5, 7 better than 6, 8 over the 7, etc. etc.

You can get the 8 for 300-350 used/on sale. You can get the 7 for 250 used/on sale. The 6 for around 200. The 5 for around 150. So on so forth

So depending on your budget, you should know that the 5 is totally fine, works great. Unless your BF plans to start a youtube channel he doesn't really need an 8 or even a 7. BUT you are getting some of the best software and color accuracy with the newer cameras of course.

For electronics released in a series I generally have a rule of thumb that 2-3 years old is the best time to buy. So the Hero 6 might be your best bang for your buck, value per dollar. You won't save much by buying the 5 and you will have to pay notably more to get a 7.

Mounts all depend. If he has a full face helmet or not. However, there are two main mounts you want to start with regardless of helmet choice. I've been using this chest mount and haven't had a single issue. Also a basic adhesive mount set for whatever he feels like, top of helmet typically, is a great low cost investment.

I've seen this gets posted frequently. Here's a high level overview with some specific parts.

You need at least one camera (duh) and a way to get audio. The camera can be gopro or knock off, but you need a sturdy mount like this or this or this.

The easiest way to synch audio is to connect your camera straight in to the audio panel, with a cable like this or doing the "stuff the mic in your ear" trick that was mentioned already.

You could also get a billet mount like this to get some awesome external views and/or a wing strut clamp like this but your battery may not last as long as your flight!

Then head on over to your favorite video software and go at it!

Good luck and share your videos w/ us when you're done awesomeing it up!

I've had difficulty getting my 2 sensors to perform "perfect" but I would say in a couple hour session I get maybe one time where the sensor is off. 360 with 2 sensors is definitely doable, but you really have to experiment with the right angle. I just set mine up for the 3rd time(another move), it took about 45 minutes to get them just how I wanted them, able to track a 6x8' space and can even see me crouched/prone. The best way to test your coverage is to get to the point where you setup the guardian barrier in Oculus sensor setup. Really test the deadzones and tweak the height and angle of the sensors. NOTE that if you need to adjust the sensors, you should back out and re-do the Guardian test, every time. It's time consuming but once they are set up, tape them hard so they never fall.

Get a mount like this, which can adjust on several axis'

I really like my Mobius Action cam (Wide angle). It's really easy once it is set up, and I would consider it to be a easy-meduim install for someone who is handy with car wiring. This is a post i made awhile ago on here with some info:

You can see day and night examples from mine at these links: Day / Night
also, here is a recent post on /r/JusticePorn where the road rager behind me crashes at the end: Link

I would consider adhesive mounts. Worst case, you can get residue off windows with some solvent. It's not easier, but it's not an issue if you want it up all the time.

PM me with any questions if you want.

I am talking about my rear setup, but its the same for the front:

Pictures of the install: Link (if you have RES and the last pic is rotated incorrectly, just click the picture)

It is a Mobius ActionCam: Link

To install, I powered it by tapping the radio fuse and running the positive wire back to the rear seat under the door sills. I connected it to this 12V DC to USB converter: Link

I found the correctly angled MiniUSB cable and ran it up to the window: Link

I got an adhesive mount because I didn't want it to ever fall off in the heat like some suction cups can. Also, the defroster lines on the window would prevent a suction. I got the "CH-358" from this page: Link

There are also 2 pictures of the front camera in that album. It was installed in roughly the same manner, but I used a different angled USB cable and a lower profile adhesive mount.
