Ok I was curious and had to look this up. Judging by the listing this is supposed to work like a Swiffer and the listing doesn't explicitly say it's a vacuum. It also has no reviews on Amazon which is always questionable. Still ballsy though and I still admire the hustle lol.

We have the Roborock S5 vacuum off of Amazon.

It's quite pricey and not everyone can justify for an expensive vacuum cleaner, but this model is quite smart and is considerably cheaper than the mainstream brand (the equivalent costs about $800 or more if I'm not mistaken).

I used to have the cheaper robot vacuum and it wasn't very "smart". It'd bump into everything, get stuck and had a hard a hard time navigating back "home" (charging dock) to recharge.

I had my doubts on this new one we just got because of our past experience but we liked the fact that the floor was so clean every day and pretty smart. We have tile floors. You know that feeling when you're walking around barefoot and you just stepped on something dry or the bottom of your feet just feels dusty or crumbly? Yeah, no more of that! (We used to vacuum only on weekends)

Before I talk endlessly about the joys of owning a robot vacuum, I'll stop here :P Let me know if you have any questions though. We've owned this for more than a month now and it's been running every day for about 45 minutes, cleaning our whole one floor house. We also have a cat and it picks up cat hair just fine.

Look at what your job is. You're a repairman, so of course you're going to see a lot of broken Dysons. It's a super popular brand. You've seen hundreds of unhappy people, but that's because the millions of happy Dyson owners have never had to call on you. No mass market product has a 100% satisfaction rate these days - production isn't perfect, things break, etc.

Your entire perspective is heavily biased against popular brands. I'm not sure how you don't realize that. User reviews are worth a lot more:

http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-DC65-Animal-Complete-Upright/product-reviews/B00HNUFSLG

http://www.amazon.com/Dyson-DC41-Animal-Complete-Upright/product-reviews/B008SG536E

And the amount of 4-5 star reviews look pretty damn good. And I've had zero issues. And other people I know with Dysons are all very happy as well, which is a large part of why I bought one in the first place.

Awww gurl my mom bought me this Hoover bagged vacuum for Christmas in 2011 and it is to date my favorite gift ever in history. You know you're old when you are happy to get a vacuum for Christmas, but SHIt this thing is amazing. Lightweight, sleek, works amazing, bags last forever. Ungh I wanna go home and use it right now

Edit: this one if you're curious

Highly recommend the Xiaomi Mai Gen 2/Roborock S50. Not only is it cheaper than the Roomba, it cleans better and more methodically. Check out the COMMENTS section here: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-robot-vacuum/

It is on amazon for $400 after a coupon now: https://smile.amazon.com/Roborock-Robotic-Connectivity-Navigating-Capacity/dp/B0792BWMV4

I have one and so far it has been amazing, it cleans thoroughly and has zero issues. The dust bin is always full when I empty it after the occasional cleaning, meaning it does its job really well. However, the company also does Facebook giveaways and promos - I got mine for $350 because of a discount code that I won by participating in a promo. For value AND efficiency, I really can't recommend this enough. But, do your own research as well - this is a big purchase. Don't just go with a Roomba because it's popular - the wirecutter article and comments, especially, are a good place to start reading.

Any thoughts on a cheap Miele, like the S2121 Olympus or the S7210 Twist? I know you get what you pay for, but sometimes I can't pay that much!

u/hopeless93 · 5 pointsr/dogs

So worth it but I wasn't ready for the price tag so I bought this other brand below. It's amazing. I run it 2 or more times a day. My hound just sheds by existing.... It works very well on our laminate flooring. I wouldn't get this one for lots of carpeted areas though.

Dyson vacuum! A clean home is a happy home.

u/DingGratz · 4 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I think it was on sale for $250 or less at Fry's. Shop around as it varies quite a bit. What we didn't realize is that it also comes with a separate shoulder-strap container-type of vacuum that is so great for tile/hardwood and other small cleanups.

Personally, I feel like the bag vacuums are superior from the wind tunnel types and we couldn't be happier with this vacuum.

Depends... If you get a low-pile rug, the under $300 ones will work okay on them.

If you get a deep pile rug, I'd recommend a slightly more expensive model with a rotating agitator brush to go deep into the rug and clean it.

The under $300 models do not include a rotating brush. Which is perfectly fine for the buffalo skin as you don't want anything irritating it. However, for deep pile rugs, you do want that feature.

No rotating brush ($299): https://www.amazon.com/Miele-Compact-C1-Suction-Canister/dp/B06XHPLYZL/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1521419545&sr=8-4&keywords=Miele+c1

Now, the top of the line, extremely deep cleaning, like... You can feel the power actually working, would be an electric driven powerhead. But those are gonna be a bit more out of your price range.

u/ArizonaLad · 4 pointsr/HomeImprovement

Maybe it would help if you divided your list into two columns: Left column is stuff you have to do, and the right one is stuff you'd like to do.

Left column:

GFCI protected outlet every 48" on counter tops.

Dedicated, separate runs for each major appliance.

Lighting should provide the following: 30-75 foot candles per square foot, 300-750 lumens per square meter, or 1.21 watts per square foot. That means good and bright.

Right Column:

Under cabinet lighting.

3 way switches for the lighting. Bonus points if you also put a switch in the master bedroom to control the kitchen lights. No one likes walking into a dark kitchen.

Low voltage wiring. Cat6 for data, coaxial for a TV, speaker wire for tunes, and maybe wiring for exterior security cameras. Hell, a nice four speaker system just for the kitchen alone. iTunes while you cook?

A vent over the kitchen island or range that works! So many of them make noise, but don't capture most of the smoke and/or grease. Buy a powerful unit, and you will be much happier.

Wire in one of these. You wife will thank you:

https://www.amazon.com/Sweepovac-Kitchen-Vacuum-Cabinets-Spaces/dp/B016N9TBHE

For staging a midnight raid on the fridge, how about a night light? I mounted a canvas print on the wall (kinda like this: https://images.icanvas.com/list-square/coffee.jpg), and placed a small florescent light underneath. It stays lit 24/7. Now I can cruise into the kitchen at zero-dark thirty, and not have to turn any lights on.

I am brilliant (hey, wrote that myself!).

The difference between the regular and pet models is just the tools, however the max has a few differences but the main one is that it has a different baseplate that does a great job of sealing to the carpet, improving performance and maximizing airflow through the carpet, also it happens to be cheaper at the moment so even if they were the same, the max would still be the best deal: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0055SNR2A/ref=psdcmw_510110_t2_B003EQ470G?th=1&psc=1

I purchased the 'pivot' black and decker off amazon about a year ago. It's good for cleaning the car, crumbs, quick pick ups. The battery lasts about 15 mins of straight use, but I only ever drain the battery when cleaning the car. I really like mine as a supplement to the big vacuum. It's designed well, the battery works, and it is a great tool for around the house. Also, cleaning the filter is easy, you just take it apart, wash it, and let it dry.

The one you have a link to is pretty much the same thing so I'm sure it's just as good, maybe slightly less effective if it doesn't have the brush attachment.

Thanks for the reply. The Windtunnel Max looks like a good choice (we definitely need above floor tools), but I'm a little confused by the choices I see in the Windtunnel line. Is there a big difference or advantage to the Maax compared to this Windtunnel T-Series? I see there is also a 'pet' model; are they all based on the same technology?

You're lucky - when I lived in apartment last they'd post letters about fining you for "working on a vehicle in the buildings lot" if you even attempted to vacuum it out.

u/Lurkndog · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I have the earlier version of this Black & Decker Pivot Vacuum. It's excellent. Tons of suction, and a compact handy form factor.

You'll want to keep a couple of the replacement filters on hand, that way when the filter clogs up suddenly you can get it back into service immediately.

u/eyestalks · 3 pointsr/Frugal

My vacuum died almost a year ago now, and I replaced it with a Shark. It has great reviews and was recommended by a few friends.

It cost $150, cheap in the world of vacuums. We have a medium size place with a mix of carpet and tile and 2 little kids, so it's used almost daily. It works wonderfully and is light enough to haul up the stairs easily. It's also bagless, so there's nothing to buy for it.

u/bdgbill · 3 pointsr/dogs

I have a Golden Retriever and two cats with all hardwood floors. Fur management is a big part of my life.

First of all, be glad you have wood floors because once you are setup, wood and tile floors are so much easier to keep clean of pet hair.

Second, I'm sure others will mention this but any fur you proactively remove from your animals by brushing is fur that you will not have to clean up. My life has been much easier since I convinced myself of this fact. Brush, brush brush. Brush everyday. It's good bonding time between you and your dog and it's easier than vacuuming. If you can't get a loaf of bread sized hairball off your Golden everyday in the summer, you need a different brush. Also, consider the nuclear option. I used to have my previous Golden shaved every May. By late October, he would have all his fur back more beautiful than ever. He particulalry hated the heat and we saw a big change in his activity level every time we shaved him. Now, shaving Goldens is about as controversial as you can get in the dog world but it worked fine for me.

Tools - I had been considering picking up a $500.00 Dyson "Animal" vacuum. I tend to wear out every vacuum I buy within a year so was going to go for quality. One thing that bothers me about the Dyson (and the Roomba) is that it has a spinning brush. Spinning brushes are the Achilles heel of pet vacuums and really aren't needed for a wood floor. I stumbled on the vacuum linked below and bought it a few weeks ago. Very highly reviewed for pet hair. No spinning brush. The machine is optimized specifically for pet hair and works awesome. $65 bucks.

> if it is mostly tile I would definitely take a look at the braava jet.

I'm in the market for a roomba or something similar. This is the first I've heard about the Braava Jet, but I haven't done a ton of research. I saw one on Amazon for $240 (the 380t model).

We've got dogs that shed, our main floor where this would be used is tile and hardwood (except two bedrooms that are carpeted, remaining bedrooms / rooms are hardwood).

What would you suggest for someone looking to clean up the dog hair and would prefer something that could do a "mid-week" mopping? (I'm expecting that I'll still have to mop the tile by hand once a week, unless they're that good).

NOTE: I'd rather get something that works great on the hardwood / tile, even if it means skipping the two carpeted rooms.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

> Bissell

I am wayyy late on this AMA, but what's your opinion of the Bissell Zing? After my trusty Eureka Oxygen 6999 canister vac died after something like a decade of use, I ordered the Zing, seeing quite a few good reviews on Amazon for its performance on hard floors (I have wood floors, only a few rugs here and there, 3 kids but no pets). It's arriving today. Am I screwed?

Thanks so much for doing this AMA!!

I've been saving up to buy a Miele S7210 soon.

Would you recommend this or is there something else in a similar price range I should check out?

I don't need it for anything special; just need to replace my broken Hoover. I live in a single story home that's mostly carpet with some tile.

u/sqweexv · 2 pointsr/OldSchoolCool

We got this one, though it looks like they have updated their lineup since then. Not sure what the equivalent would be now.

IIRC, the "Cat and Dog" model was exactly the same, just with extra accessories and an LED headlight (and a different color). The Jazz added the headlight and the HEPA filter as standard. The only thing ours doesn't have that can't be added in was the headlight.

We didn't see a ton of need for an LED headlight and the extra accessories w/ the Cat and Dog didn't feel necessary. We figured we'd just buy the better filter for ours if we decided we needed it.

As for hard floors, we don't use it as often as we could. We sweep them most of the time, but we will use the vacuum once in a while as well. Does a great job when we use it. Just turn the dial down to lower it and turn the brush off. My wife loves how easy it is to maneuver. You can turn the whole thing by twisting the handle. It also lays down virtually all the way, so you can scoot it under things that our old vacuum couldn't dream of getting under. It's a little heavier than some of the cheap vacuums, but it's made better. It's also much quieter.

The only thing that doesn't really work as well as one would hope is the air flow indicator. There's a little window on the front and it's supposed to indicate how full the bag is based on airflow. When the colored (sort of an orange/red color) marker fills the window, it means the bag is full or filters are clogged. Ours never goes past half way. It gets to half and sits there, even when the bag is 100% full. Not really a big deal now that I know about it. Just have to check it manually once in a while. Apparently this is a quirk that can happen with pets. The hair in the bag still allows enough air flow to move through the bag that the meter doesn't read it as full. The whole thing is designed around air flow.

If it's the Mint (old name)/Ibraava robotic vacuum that shows using Swiffer cloths or fabric ones, they're now made by iRobot. There are different models, one you can run a wet cloth using it.

I LOVE mine, it's much better for me for pet hair and easy maintenance. I used Roombas since they first came out and switched to Mint before iRobot took over.

I've had a Bissell Zing for about two years now and I really like it. However, it has an incredibly strong smell whenever I turn it on - I'm assuming it's the motor. It is currently listed for $399 - is this a reasonable price? Would I be able to get a better deal by going to a dealership?

Thanks again!

I seriously scaled up to the iRobot Bravva. It's not a scrubber like the Scooba, so it's not as expensive. It does a better job than I do with a swiffer.

It's still spendy, but it was a great investment. All of my rooms are laminate and tile, except one room with carpet. It's really quiet and does a great job. We named him Mr. Sparkle. hehe.

I also have a Roomba, which was another great investment. They run overnight while we're all asleep. As a disabled lady, these are my favorite tools. ;)

Ok...this is really expensive ~$50, but I really need this. I have 8-9 animals and a very hard time keeping up with all of the cleaning involved. I would love you forever. ;) It would make me so happy because I love having a clean house but saving animals always takes precedence. Saving animals is my life.

I think the difference is the color option, refer to this amazon page https://www.amazon.com/Roborock-Robotic-Connectivity-Navigating-Capacity/dp/B0792BWMV4?keywords=roborock+s51&qid=1536588613&sr=8-3&ref=sr_1_3, where there are three available colors white, rose and black. But Xiaomi isn´t clear about that.

It works great on carpet, but the floor attachment always gets pet hair hopelessly stuck in the pad on thew hardwood floors. I was thinking maybe something that had water used to clean floors, but maybe that is not needed.

u/HybridVigor · 1 pointr/lifehacks

I just use a hand vacuum. I don't bother, but if one wanted to be extra careful, they could put down a towel and vacuum the towel afterwards instead of the floor/counter top. Plastic bags are getting harder to come by since they're not allowed in my state's grocery stores, and reducing our consumption of plastic is a good thing, anyway.

Hello! It looks like this post is somewhat active so I'll ask my question here. I've been looking for a vacuum to replace our $50 Eureka and am currently eyeing a couple of different Miele vacuums on Amazon.

Miele S2121 Delphi

Miele S2121 Capri

I currently have enough credit to cover either of the vacuums, and want to make the best purchase I can. Any other specific models I should be considering? Our apartment has medium carpet, hardwood floors, and concrete, with the potential for pets in the future.

Also, is there any downside to buying a Miele on Amazon instead of with a local dealer?

EDIT: I've been combing through your comments on other questions, and have been looking more specifically at s6 and s8 models. S6 is probably more within my reach. Model recommendations?

Oh wow! What an awesome contest. Thanks!!!

I'd love any of the wallets to give to a special person for their upcoming birthday.

My most wanted item is this vacuum because my vacuum sucks and having a cat, a dog, and two sons makes for dirty carpets.

I have two vacuums. I use this Electrolux Cordless Vacuum that I use 2-3 times a week on our hardwood floors (LOVE the detachable hand vacuum). I also own this Shark Vacuum that I use once or twice a week on both our hardwood floors and in our one carpeted room. I've been pretty happy with this setup so far. The cordless vacuum is awesome for a quick spot job around the kitchen/living room!!

I got a Miele S7 https://www.amazon.com/Miele-S7210-Upright-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B003YIXK2A/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1483102538&sr=1-1&keywords=Miele+S7+Twist as I, as well, did not want to pay a grip for Miele. Been rocking it for like 4 years. It did clog once and my wife's solution was to get SuperMAD and go out and buy a Dyson as a replacement. $300 Dyson to fix a clog...sounds legit right? I get home and in 20 seconds remove a rogue ball of dog hair and she chooches like day one. 2 weeks later, the Dyson clogged the same way. :) Needless to say, the wife no longer gripes about vacuums and uses the Miele like 9:1 over the Dyson.

The S7 is super quiet and we have 2 cats and a Newfoundland with 75% carpet and 25% wood/tile. The only issue with Miele is you must take it to a store for repair if something breaks...they sell ZERO parts to anyone anywhere unless you get super lucky and find used on eBay. Our hose ripped and a replacement was like $100, so I epoxy'd it and found one via luck on eBay for $40.

u/krische · 1 pointr/roomba

In my opinion, if you don't want to pay for the i7+ or s9+ line of Roomba, I would look at other brands. Unless you are trying to go super cheap, I don't see a point in spending money on a random navigation robot anymore, LIDAR/vision is the way to go.

Watch this Vacuum Wars video: https://youtu.be/4Fed8durfb4

So I would look at the Roborock S5 $499, the Roborock S4 $399, or the Neato D4 $349.

I have this Shark True Pet vacuum. A little pricey, but sooo worth it for my German Shedder. I had 3 huskies at once, and had the Shark Navigator. Loved it! But I accidentally broke a piece and had to retire it. My dad’s had his Shark for almost 6 years now, runs good as new. My brother has a GSD and a golden and also has the True Pet. We aren’t sponsored, I swear. Just like their vacuums!

Super easy to empty and clean too. Never had any issues with mine.

u/cdeveringham · 1 pointr/HomeNetworking

Get yourself one of these bad boys and some duct tape. Now your also gonna want t long Ethernet cable dependent on the size of your house. Next make sure you get a POE access point such as this Unifi device. Now I think you know where I'm going with this, and you will NEED to up your macgyver skills. This has the added benefit of making sure the vacuum will always have a good wireless signal.

Hoover Floor Scrubber

This is nice if you have pets or kids that make sticky messes where a broom or regular vacuum won't work. Also great for salt stains if you live somewhere with winter weather.

Obviously the water is not good for unsealed hardwood but the suction and drying feature make it ok to use on most floors.

You should really seal/finish your hardwood floors properly, they are floors meant to be walked on, and you won't have to worry about water.

Finally everybody is correct about steam mops, they force the moisture into spots you don't want it to be.

Bought a blue Miele pet upright off Amazon a couple of years ago for three fiddy, about a year ago they changed U bag design, the new bags no longer fit very well and fall off when the bag is half full, fills entire bag chamber with dirt/dust/hair crap that is mucho gross. Bought 3 different boxes of U bags off ebay and Amazon and even tried a local shop, local shop said I was SOL then laughed at me for buying a Miele, claiming they change shit like that all the time. Miele customer service SUCKS, good luck with that.

Sold that POS on craigslist for a cool hundy. Waved goodbye to it as it rolled away and whispered audios you dirty dirty Motherfucker.

My house is mostly hardwood floors and tile. I use Bissel PowerEdge Hard Floor for the hard surface floors, which is most of my house.

I have all cats, no dog. My biggest problem was cat hair and kitty litter on the floor. The tank is very easy to empty and the vacuum itself is light and simple to use. It has no problem picking up litter, dirt, and hair. I use it on an almost daily basis. It's only for hard floors, but it is cheap.

I use a Hoover pet series vacuum for the carpet. It seems wasteful to have two vacuums for the different floor types, but I have yet to find a good vacuum that will do both effectively. Vacuuming often makes mopping less of a necessity for me.

u/AdamJacobMuller · 1 pointr/aww

I suggest the Dyson Pet Version. Works great.
