  • Berkey Travel Water Filter - This way you can filter larger quantities of water than would be available through a Lifestraw

  • 50 Pk Bic Lighters - You don't want to rely solely on a few lighters in the event they stop working

  • A sleeve each of Lithium Ion batteries in AA, AAA, C & D in the event you need to power something other than a flashlight

  • 2 quality flashlights

  • A good quality can opener as well as a couple military style openers without the moving parts that can break

  • Tuna is good but also baked beans, chili and beef stew ; high protein foods to go with your rice. If you get cans stay away from the pull tab tops. Also add some honey(real honey), salt and pepper

  • Good hiking/walking shoes in the event you have to travel by foot. Also don't forget a good quality backpack

  • Battery operated or crank operated Emergency radio

  • In addition to a knife I would also add a machete and a hatchet. You can use them for protection and tools

  • A small camping kit to heat up your food as well as some 100 hour candles or a couple of small quality oil lamps with a couple gallons of lamp oil

  • Be careful of the survival kits you see online as sometimes they are filled with stuff you do not need and you can make your own cheaper. Definitely purchase a First Aid kit

  • I have added gas masks to my kit which some say is extreme but during riots and unrest the authorities will use tear gas and you have people burning tires, cars and whatever else they can so you don't want to breathe that crap in. I went with the NATO SGE 150 with spare filters but remember that the filters do expire so you will have to purchase new ones every couple of years

Most of these items take up minimal space and you can add to your stash as you see fit ; hope this helps

If you ever wanna change it over to butane - I wouldn't light a pipe with Zippo fuel because it tastes too nasty.

Plus butane is far more reliable especially if you don't smoke often because it does not evaporate.

Buy it for like a hundred weeks:

I personally use a Zippo lighter with a thunderbird butane insert replacement. https://www.amazon.com/Vector-Thunderbird-Butane-Regular-Insert/dp/B01N1GDDLK

Has a soft flame as well as jet for both preferences, comes in a familiar Zippo case with zippo click, and doesn't leak fuel. Doesn't hold a lot of fuel, but from your description I don't see how that would be a problem. Easily more than enough to light a dozen cigars.

I too only smoke cigars, around every 2 weeks to once a month.

Either hardwire your dashcam with a fuse tap, or get some kind of power splitter.

I think the other guy was trying to say go with the VapCap though chose to just bash on the other products you mentioned without bothering to talk about your other options. The VapCap M is a solid quality product that can last a lifetime if treated with respect. It also looks pretty gentlemanlike paired with a suit which keeps with the wedding theme.

These little things are a fantastic vape given any price range. I would rather use a VapCap M than many units 4 times the price or more.

One thing I will mention is the packaging / storage tube. This is literally a plastic tube and given the situation I think you would do really well to make some simple presentation boxes for them out of wood. It would be a cheap and easy project to give it that final touch of class.

Oh one other thing to mention and I know this will bump the cost up another $60 or so but get them a nice torch lighter to go with it so that they don't need to go and buy anything to use it. This one or that one would do it nicely.

u/pickboy87 · 6 pointsr/cigars

Here's my advice since I literally just started a few weeks ago. This is exactly what I wished I knew before I spent money on random cigars from various sites.

  1. Depending on how many sticks you plan on getting at a time, invest in a tuppedor. Don't waste your time with a wooden humidor (at least right now). I picked up these from amazon and all my ~40-50 sticks sit comfortably in there.
  • Plastic "humidor"
  • Hygrometer
  • Boveda Packs, although I might lean towards the 65% next time. Also, you only need 1 pack in a tuppedor, 2 is overkill. They can also be recharged, so don't throw them away when they dry out.

  1. If you have a nice brick and mortar tobacco store (not a hole in the wall place that caters only to e-cigs and accessories) near you, visit them and ask questions. If they are worth their salt, they should be fairly knowledgeable about cigars. They will point you in the right direction. I stupidly didn't do this and just kind of bought random shit online and have had mixed results with what I bought. The stuff I've bought at the store has been much, much fresher too. However, you will be spending 30-40% above what you'll pay online. I found it worth it for how much time and effort the staff spent helping me, but it is quite a bit more expensive.

  2. If that's not an option, look for sampler packs online. You can find cheap options that include a bunch of different sticks so you can sample a variety. I would suggest looking at smallbatch mixes find a price you're comfortable with spending (30 to 40 should be plenty, maybe buy 2 of the $30 to $40 packs so you end with ~10 cigars) and in the comment section of your order mention that you're brand new to cigars. He should be able to make an excellent mix for a new smoker. Use code "rcigars" for 10% off (without the "", not sure if valid for the mix).

  3. Also, if you don't come from a background of smoking cigarettes, stick with the mild to medium strength cigars. I smoked a few full strength ones from the samplers I got and they kicked my ass. It was unpleasant to say the least. If you DO plan on smoking a full strength cigar, smoke on a full stomach and drink something sweet with it. Sweet tea or a pop of some sort works well to quell the nicotine content.

  4. Accessories. All you really need is a decent cutter and a torch lighter and you're all set.
  • A cutter
  • A butane lighter
  • Fuel [Note, you can use cheaper fuel, but your lighter may get clogged with shitty zippo butane fuel.]
  • Some sort of ashtray. You don't realize how nice it is to have one until you don't have one and have no place to rest your cigar.

  1. If you do find a cigar you enjoy, try buying a 5 pack of it. Let it rest for a week or so and try them out over the course of a month or several months and see if you enjoy them as much as you did the first time. See if they get better with age. I have far too many 1 offs that I enjoyed, but would I still enjoy them a month from now? 2 months from now?

  2. Oh, and generally stay away from infused cigars. They use shittier tobacco since they can mask it with flavors. The girlfriend still likes these, but I think she's starting to come around to a natural sweetness/chocolate taste instead of an artificially infused one. Plus they stink up your humidor and can potentially ruin the taste of your other cigars in them if they are in close contact.

  3. Online sites that I've enjoyed purchasing from and ship quickly:
  1. Look up retrohaling. You'll taste more of your cigar this way. Warning, it does burn the hell out of your nose the first handful of times you do it. Start with a mild cigar instead of a full strength one like I stupidly decided to do. :P

    Hopefully this helps.

Edit: Many edits to fix errors and add additional info.

I have never used those Coleman matches so I can't really critique them but I highly recommend UCO matches . They are waterproof, windproof, you can light them, stick them in water, pull them out and they will still be lit.

I think you could fit more in here, maybe some lint from a dryer to fill some empty spaces?

u/bokkens · 4 pointsr/videos

I came here to say that. This is not a new or unique technology, nor is it worth $60.

You dont even have to go as far as Ali express to find it cheaper.
Amazon has it from another brand called "Tesla Coil Lighters" for 22.95, and the more you look the cheaper it gets.

:P it's a cash grab that seems to be working

u/MAG_Reloaded · 4 pointsr/trees

Hemp wick attachment for a bic. So I light the wick with a lighter, and then then bowl with the wick. Also hemp wick is absolutely a million times better than butane. I thought I wouldn't like it the first time I tried hemp wick, but I've never gone back to just using a lighter.

u/lord_dentaku · 4 pointsr/vaporents

I have had various expensive cigar lighters due to smoking cigars for about 15 years now. In my experience, every torch lighter eventually craps out. The best return on investment I've ever got was with my current go to lighter, an Eagle single flame. I picked it up on sale at Menard's for $3, actually got two so I have a backup. Massive butane tank, and it just keeps running. At some point I expect it to die, but it won't bother me because it was $3.

For reference, this is the lighter I have: https://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Lighters-Single-Assorted-Colors/dp/B00VLCT99E

Don't split the power from your existing outlet.

Buy a fuse box tap - It lets you add another fuse to the fuse box. So you find a fuse thats already switched with power, replace it with the tap, and hook your outlet's positive power lead to that. Then ground the negative lead to something metal. When I did the same thing I bought a splitter with 2 12v outlets and 2 usb outlets so I could power my dashcam, radar detector, and 2 phones for the same amount of work.

Dynavap sells a few torches, like this one It has 3 flames. Many people prefer a torch with only a single flame, like these They tend to be more reliable,
and can provide bigger hits due to higher bowl temperatures.

As for fuel (the butane itself), higher quality fuel is recommended as it leaves no taste and won't clog up your lighters.

Brand 1
Brand 2

One can will refill a lighter about 20 times, depending on how big the lighter is. I've found that a full lighter last me days of heavy usage.

How to refill

u/babblepedia · 2 pointsr/Gifts

What is your budget? You say under $100, but what exactly does that mean - $20, $40, $80?

My fiance and I are in a similar (reversed) situation. He's a part-time intern and finishing college, and I work full time in a good job. The stuff I want, but have not purchased for myself, is definitely all out of his price range.

Hiking ideas:

  • Backpacker handbook and/or local trail guidebook
  • Super light travel games, like mini UNO
  • K9 H20 Travel Water Bottle (a water bottle with a built-in drinking cup for dogs, perfect for hikers - like $20 at PetCo)
  • $13 Hammer/Multitool, good guy gift in general
  • $8 Waterproof Match Kit
  • Tent light (around $45 at sporting good store... you can probably find a push light cheaper in a non-hiking section)
  • Wool hat/gloves/boot socks

    Kitchen stuff:

  • Cast iron skillet ($40ish) for making bomb steaks
  • Drink stones (usually plastic or metal, for cooling liquor without watering it down - $10+ at Target)
  • $50 monogrammed steak branding iron
  • Manly apron
  • French press for coffee

I've been smoking for like 15 years and have carried a lighter on me everyday. Not once has one blown up or have I ever worried about one blowing up. If you're worried about normal gas lighters, then just get one of these electric lighters.. The are rechargable via a micro usb on the bottom. They are thin and I carry one in the side pocket on my boot just in case I lose my normal lighter, I have a backup. Just stick a piece of paper in the middle of the electric arc and bam, fire.

u/RzaSmokesIt · 2 pointsr/Dynavap

I've bought colbri in cigar shops and off amazon had problems similar to you...always thought it was the lighters.

Then I used some vector 14x refined we had which Id normally only use for an extraction not on my lighters as its a bit more expensive and bam all my lighters worked perfectly.

edit heres links

Im not sure if its the same brand making the lighters and the butane it could be though.
Goodluck man.

edit: heres a link
smallest can $8

Once you realize how well it works heres the $20 option that lasts forever cause the cans are huge.

u/sozket · 2 pointsr/DMT

Is it all vaporizing? You need to get it all, I keep the tip of the torch flame about an inch from the bulb but also adjusting it here and there as a torch will overheat the dmt, I use this torch which I find to be a very common one, your dmt should be vaporizing fast enough to inhale in one or two hits and leaving nothing but maybe a tiny bit of burnt residue behind

u/antispleen · 2 pointsr/vaporents

Its all I've been using today, and I'm impressed. I have tried a couple of different strains of bud, and the taste is amazing. I don't think I have the right torch yet. I have a nice double and triple jet, for my vapcaps, but my single jets are the wrong shape to hold properly with this vape. I have a big single jet that works OK if I'm careful, but a shop down the road sells these https://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Lighters-Single-Assorted-Colors/dp/B00VLCT99E for 5 bucks, I have had one before, and I think it will be prefect. Will report back when I get it.

u/tokercoder · 2 pointsr/Dynavap

I like the single flame torch Troy uses with dynavaps on the 420vapezone videos and just ordered one -- it is metal so it's an extra surface that can be used to speed up the cooldown click. From the pics on amazon it appears that it will stand up on end, but I've only seen Troy lay it down flat. I'm not sure if is stable when stood on its' end or not. It looks comfortable to hold and not too big though. About $11.00 including shipping.

u/hacksoncode · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

Not sure where you're buying it, but Amazon has it for <$7 for 12 ounces... still more expensive than "naptha" in bulk, but you really don't want to try to pour naptha into a zippo lighter without a small squeeze spout... so it's really not that bad for the packaging you get.

u/fn0000rd · 2 pointsr/vaporents

They’re <$3 from China, too. That’d make for a sweet stashbox, imho.

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of getting this one (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K3ZHVWS/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A22KTUTCR6O1Y9&psc=1) I saw a guy use on a video of the "M". It looked so unnoticeable in the video, mainly because this one allows you to burn the pen while it's vertical. Only downside is the single flame, which as you said, takes longer. What do you think about that? Thanks again. :)

u/betamaleorderbride · 2 pointsr/Pipes

Is that the dual jet/ soft flame one? I just tossed out my 3rd one of those that died on me.

Scorch Torch Dual Flame great lighter, I've had it for about 2 weeks and have had no problems so far refilling it or with it lighting consistently.

If anyone does buy that lighter though make sure you use a small nail or screwdriver to depressurize it right when you get it, and before trying to fill or use it. Otherwise you'll defect the lighter like I did with the first one I got, luckily they come with a life-time warranty when bought from amazon or ebay so after a few messages back and forth to customer service I was able to get a new one sent to me to replace the defective one.

The power plug?

Thinkware Hardwire kit - Link - I think Blackboxmycar also sells 3rd party hardwire kits that are very similar to the thinkware ones. - Along with Cig/power adapters.

> Bottom line. I'd like to replace the OEM power cable with a different kind (either USB or a cigarette adapter that has USB inputs so I can charge multiple devices at once).

No, no, no, no. This is a terrible idea.

  • So if you have Cig adapter to the Dash cam. You can simply hardwire the dash cam to the fusebox, and solve your lack of Cig Adapter problems.

  • If you have the dash cam hardwired to the fusebox already: Purchase a 2nd hardwire kit, and hardwire the other devices to a different fuse - (Make sure low voltage cut off feature 11.8v or higher) (11.8v, 12.0v, 12.2v Deep cycling), (12.4v Normal use) Deep cycling the battery will 1/2 the life expectancy of the battery. They sell Micro Hardwire kits, Mini Hardwire kits, and USB C hardwire kits for your other devices.

If you still need more ports, Example: Cig Adapters with splitters but seriously, you shouldn't really need to.

For reference 11.6v = dead battery.

haha glad I could help.

1 last piece of advice: Get a butane lighter. You don't need to get a full on torch, something like this will work just fine. Vapcaps work a lot better with a butane lighter than they do with a standard bic or zippo.

Oh, and the lower on the cap you apply the heat, the hotter the chamber gets and the more vapor is produced.

Happy toking!

like the other person said they are resinous as fuck and difficult to burn, so adding some sort of tinder like regular flower helps, however, if you have a small torch like this they will burn fine on their own in a pipe. Thanks for the feedback!

For the water, I agree that I brought too much water. When I went to Olympic last year I only carried a liter of water with me at a time, but for Big Bend there is only a few streams that generally dry up in the summer (can't be relied on) and the Rio Grande. The route we went only came within about 5 miles of the Rio Grande, and the creeks were reduced to stagnant puddles by the time we went. The Big Bend website suggests a gallon per person per day of water, and we brought 4 gallons between us for 3 days, and that was still too much. I am a hyper water conservationist when I backpack, and I think I can get by with about 2 liters per person per day going forward. I had never done a desert trip before, so I went conservative to be safe.

The trash compactor bag is an intriguing idea. I have historically just done the ducks back to keep my stuff mostly dry and the dry sack to keep my sleeping bag dry so I would never freeze to death, but I like the idea of the compactor bag without the dry bag. I think I messed up my sub kilo by using a compression sack for the first 6 years that I owned it.

I have been eyeing those thermarest xlite pads. My current thermarest is about 10 years old and not very thick.

The rain jacket umbrella combo is something I have been testing recently. The Patagonia jacket I have is essentially a wind shirt, so anything more than a drizzle goes straight through it. So without an umbrella, I would be almost without rain gear. The umbrella has some other benefits like being a wind break, allowing easy night time bathroom breaks, and makes it easier to check maps while its raining and such. I think I will get an OR Helium at some point and bring that whenever it is a low chance of rain, or for particularly long trips.

I searched a bit for a torch style lighter, and these are the only ones that I have found:

Soto Which just loads generic bic style lighters into it for fuel.
Gizga Which requires you to buy separate fuel and recharge it.

I tried the Gizga one time, and I could only get a tiny bit of fuel to charge it, so it only lasted a day or two. I might have a defective unit, so I may try getting another one.

Thanks again for the advice! I will definitely test your ideas out!

I have the Zico T-38. Single flame but heats up my Ti and M pretty quickly. Haven't combusted anything with it yet.

You would probably enjoy a smaller torch than those flambé style torches.

Everything on dynavap's website is solid. I guess amazon considers them 'torch/cigar lighters', so something like this or this. I haven't tried either of those, but just trying to give you a reference.

You can actually check out your local smoke shops for them too. However, they usually don't have as big of selection and can be a little more expensive. Aliexpress is would also be a good place to check out, if you don't mind 1 month boat shipping.

I have been going through this as well. I bought a new Zippo with the pipe insert. It works, but I hate the lighter fluid taste. I recently ordered a Z-Plus butane pipe insert which works well, but I light with my left hand as I have a bad right hand. It can be done left-handed with practice. These butane inserts are geared more to right-handed people, but work great and do not have the lighter fluid taste thanks to using butane instead:

Additionally, lighter fluid in a Zippo will evaporate. Butane will not unless you have a leak.

I've been using this for the past week or so. It produces a jet flame and a soft flame. I have a small Zippo selection so I used on of my favorite cases.

One of These butane torches is great for instantly burning away fine stringing on models.

u/practicaluser · 1 pointr/DMT

That's a precarious lighter to use - why not dial it back to something more practical / less likely to start a fire when you drop off the face of the Earth:

These are cheap and practical - most variations of this lighter work ideal with the GVG

FWIW: That torch strikes me as overkill. Vapor Genie's how-to manual specifically says torches tend to burn too hot (and if it's too hot for THC, its definitely too hot for DMT.)

Be careful that the 2nd DC outlet is not constant power i.e. on even when ignition is off. My car (Mazda CX-5) has 3 total DC outlets. The one that is embedded in the dash powers on/off with the ignition, but the DC outlets in my console and in my trunk are always on, even when the ignition is turned off. If I plugged a dashcam into the console or trunk DC outlets, I could very easily discharge my battery if I wasn't paying attention.

You could always use a dual DC outlet adapter in the outlet you are already using to power your current dashcam. Dashcams do not need much power, and they are low amperage devices as well, so the power draw would be well within the limits of your one DC outlet. Something like this or this would work just fine. Just shop around for the one that you feel is the best quality for your price range. You may also need to get a 12V extension cable like this in order for the rear camera's cable to reach the power outlet.

If you want to use parking mode in either or both of your dashcams, you should look into a voltage cutoff device like a Black Magic Pro or Vico-Power Plus. You could also use a battery pack such as the Cellink B 2nd. Gen. or Blackvue Power Magic B-112.

I'm a bit late to this post, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyways.

I've had a few of them and overall would recommend them. They're great for what you're trying to accomplish.

The first one I bought was the flint-and-wheel with soft flame model. That worked well but after a few months, I began to have real problems with the flame being unusable. My suspicion is that flint particles fouled up the nozzle. I'm sending that one in on warranty.

Then I bought the single torch model, as well as a Vertigo brand Z-Plus 2 Extreme. They both are good. The Thunderbird worked well and I never had problems with it. Ended up giving that one to a friend. I liked the Z-Plus a little bit better. It had two torches angled inward at each other, and it also had a transparent tank so you could easily see your fuel level. The Thunderbird fit better into my Zippo cases, but the Z-Plus was fine after I bent the piece of metal inside of the lid that catches the cam.

Thought I was set with that Z-Plus and I was for a while, but then I found out that there was a Thunderbird model that had both a single jet torch as well as a soft flame, and it was not flint-ignited. That is the one I've been EDC'ing ever since. It's fantastic and I couldn't recommend it more highly.

The flame on that one looks like it gets to a good enough length for the brick, I can’t tell the flame width that well in pictures though. If the torch comes and the flame is as wide as your honest brand one, I’d say eventually get the Eagle torch. I mean, $5.88 free shipping?

IMHO, these are a better idea and much safer:

Switch Flame Butane Torch Pipe Lighter #109

45 Degree Angle Jet Flames Butane Torch Lighter Edition 4

Windproof Triple Jet Flame Torch Cigar Lighter

It's to easy to do serious personal/property damage with a propane torch.

Amazon has a good selection of pipe/cigar torches and culinary torches better suited for "sitting around the living room" use. Any decent tobacco shop probably carries at least one torch lighter.

u/werunthenleast · 1 pointr/cigars

I use this. Works just fine for me.

u/cwcoleman · 1 pointr/camping

These from Amazon are great. I've use a few and they burn powerful

EDIT: ah, you said strike anywhere... these are not. still recommended

Sorry for the late reply. The first one I used was this one until it broke when I dropped it. I can't find an American (just assuming) link for the one I'm using now. The Canadian this if you want it. They're really just cheap knock-off lighters though.

Did you know Amazon will donate a portion of every purchase if you shop by going to smile.amazon.com instead? Over $50,000,000 has been raised for charity - all you need to do is change the URL!

Here are your smile-ified links:

This is the link for the lighter case on Amazon

I use this exact one,
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M6C8F34/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_121_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HNCRAH3XT37SXRQ34JEH&dpPl=1&dpID=71zA6QiYJHL
It heats up in about 7-10 seconds and works really well. My only complaint is that I have to refill it often because of the small tank. It looks pretty sleek though.
