Over those same 16 years I have been using work issued ThinkPad laptops and have never had a power adapter go on me due to strain relief issues.
Apple has always been a form over function company to some extent. But now I think they take it to the extreme.
For Lightning, I have starter to buy these cables. Kevlar and nylon braided with proper strain relief.
Oh boy this reminds me of a ridiculous experience I had this weekend at Best Buy. After reading about how the company is trying to save itself by upgrading the quality of its sales staff, I decided to go there to buy a usb-c to lightning cable, item number MKQ42AM/A, for use with Apple's 29w charger.
I spoke to 4 (!) different salespeople, all of whom told me the same things:
At that point I realized Best Buy wasn't going to succeed at saving itself.
Get the new Anker Powerline+ II. It's their new flagship cable. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerLine-Lightning-Certified-Compatibility/dp/B072JXXVP3
Anker Powerline+ cords are where it's at. They have 10ft cords, and they are super durable. I have had some for years that show no sign of degradation. And they aren't really any more expensive than other cables that are definitively worse.
You may be able to find each cheaper, I just picked some links.

Hello Friend. I have the same setup, so here's a few tips that might help you:
Pencil/Case: You're going to need a place to put the pencil, and its great to have it always handy, so think about that when you buy a case. The apple case is super expensive and offers the least amount of protection because it exposes the entire back of the iPad. I wouldn't recommend it, there are better, cheaper options out there. I went through two different cases to find one that suited me best. In general there seems to be basically two styles of cases, bi-fold and tri-fold. It really it all comes down to preference as to how you're going to use/hold your iPad.
The first style of case (and the first case that I bought) was a bi-fold case. This case is best for holding the ipad flat (with the back folded over, or standing up on a table. I bought this one Ztotop Premium Leather Business Slim Folding Stand Fiolio Cover specifically because of the pencil holder. However, it turns out that it is somewhat thicker than I had hoped, and the style of case in general doesn't provide a good way to have the iPad raised at a low angle, which I preferred when using the iPad on the couch. Picture 1 - Closed, Picture 2 - Standing Up
The second case I bought (and the one I am currently using) is one that is made out of TPU, the same soft rubber material that a lot of phone cases are made out of, and has a tri-fold design similar to the official Apple case. The difference being it also protects the back of the iPad. After looking through a ton of similar looking cases, finally I settled on this one DTTO Smart Cover Case. It fits the iPad really well, its thin, and similar to what I have on my phone. Picture 1 - TPU Case
, Picture 2 - TPU Case Low Angle, Picture 3 - TPU Case High Angle, Picture 4 - TPU Case Closed
The only downside to this case is it has no place to put the pencil, so to solve this problem I bought these little guys: Leuchtturm 1917 - Black Pen Loops to stick to the back of the case. They fit the pencil extremely well and hold it tight. The problem with these is that the way the loop is oriented (and the side of the square that the adhesive is on) is the wrong way around. If I was to stick it on the back of the iPad with the adhesive, the pencil would actually "hang off the bottom" instead of sitting "up" against the side of the case. To solve this, I just used some black gorilla tape to attach it the correct way around. The other thing is found was when holding the iPad on the sides (with both hands) and the pencil in the loop, a single loop made the pencil wobble around when trying to hold it. I added a second loop for improved stability, and it feels excellent. I can understand if maybe the gorilla tape thing isn't your style, but it honestly doesn't look bad in real life and the usability and strength is top notch. Picture 1 - Back of Case
, Picture 2 - Strong Loops
Apps: Others have more to offer here, but here's my $0.02:
Other usability things
Cables: I bought a longer 6' cable so I could charge my iPad on the end table when I'm not using it.
You don't have to get a Lightning cable from Apple, there are a bunch of Apple-certified cables for much cheaper.
I recommend Anker PowerLine+ Lightning Cable (10ft) Durable and Fast Charging Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0177Q07ES/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_y22Yzb6148PKT
I’m a STM approaching 38 weeks and have slacked on getting things ready. The car seat base is installed and I’m packing my bag tonight. You’ve gotten some solid suggestions so far. Here’s what’s going in my bag:
Giving birth is messy, so I opted to wear my hospital gown and reserve my regular clothes (nursing garments excepted) for admission and discharge. You can ask for clean gowns anytime and use a second gown as a robe (put it on backwards, either over a front-facing gown or a nursing top). Bonus: less laundry to do when you get home.
Check with your hospital to see what they supply. Mine provided receiving blankets, kimono-style side-snap baby tops, Dermaplast, jumbo pads and mesh underwear, Medela nipple ointment, newborn Pampers Swaddlers, Pampers wipes, Tucks pads, a standard peri-bottle, and a bulb syringe, among other things. This is the swag you want to clean out of the room before you’re discharged.
Best of luck to you!
i agree with the Cole Haan recommendation. i also wear no show socks like these with my loafers:

I can only recomend Anker external Batteries
Amazon Anker 16000mAh
I had a 3000 mAh one before I started playing Ingress and got the bit one after a week/two.
I'm using the Hyperion extended battery (4200 mAh) that comes with a new back cover. The color of the new back isn't an exact match, but you won't notice the difference once you put the Hyperion cover on it (sold separately). I actually like the phone being thicker now too. It feels more comfortable in my hand and it no longer feels like it will snap in half when it's in my pocket.
I really love this battery. It charges quickly and seems to last forever. It will easily last a full day with fairly heavy usage. It will last 2 full days with light to moderate usage.
I have a pebble blue S3, so I chose the black cover. It completely covers the phone except for the cutouts for camera, speaker, jack, etc. It makes it look like you have a black phone (which I prefer over the pebble blue).
The case has a honeycomb texture that gives it a little "grip", but it's still slick enough to easily slide in & out of your pocket.
CAUTION: The new battery and cover will make your phone exactly 5/8" thick, which I like, but you'll have a hard time finding a car mount that will hold a phone this thick (most accept up to 1/2" only).

I started carrying a single cable with multiple connections available to reduce all the different charging requirements. It’s worked quite well and could help you get rid of at least one cable.

So you don't lose it
Well, you're flipping your lid over an unverified report commissioned by an entity that apparently didn't exist prior to May of 2016, and has a grand total of 7 blog posts on its website., and little else. The testing lab itself has also only been around for less than 18 months.
Neither have a long track record, And neither actually delved into proving why the phones perform the way they do. They just ran some speed tests and determined that one phone performed only slightly faster than the other, when they think it should perform a little bit faster than that. And based on that alone, they concluded there must be some conspiracy afoot.
But, all this is means is you might reach theoretical 450Mbps on your iPhone instead of a theoretical 600Mbps - thus ripping through a 2GB Verizon data plan monthly allotment in 40 seconds instead of 30, or if you're a big spender, you'll chew though 20GB of data in 6 minutes, 40 seconds, instead of being able to do it in 5 minutes. If that really chaps your hide that much, there are plenty of people who will gladly buy your phone, leather case, lightning cables and MacBook from you.
P.S.: If you stick around, don't buy Apple lightning cables. Better, cheaper options exist.

I put it in this case that I have over my computer case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HSE76CA/
It's cheap, compact and fits like a glove.
I mentioned in a sub comment, but make sure you get the right one with their lifetime warranty
Amazon Basics are decent. For a few dollars more you can get Ankers braided cables. I have yet to have a single of them fail or break in any way.

Anker PowerLine: Lightning or micro-USB
Get an Anker charger my dude. They last forever and Anker support will send you a new one if it breaks. Mine broke in a year, I emailed them with a photo of the break and the SN on the tag, and they sent me a new one free of charge. They're amazing.
Yep, that one's good. If you want to save a couple bucks, you can drop down to the normal PowerLine (not plus, not II). I personally have the 10 ft PowerLine in white, and it does its job. I think it cost me $12 at the time and it's less than $10 now.

The battery appears to have gone up in price by about a buck. For the Galaxy S3 (and many other phones) the NFC antenna is built into the battery, so make sure whatever replacement you buy has that antenna built in. The one linked does.
I also like the added thickness given by this battery - I found the stock S3 a bit too thin for my liking. My only problem now is finding a case I actually like.
get an extended battery from amazon for $20
It will double the battery life but also make your phone a little thicker
Not here to argue, just a tip I’ve found is that I bought a few of the adapters, and I leave them attached to the end of my aux/headphone cables. I don’t usually take mine off (because I’m the only one that usually uses my aux cable, and I almost exclusively use air pods with my phone) but if you wanted to keep it from getting lost you can get one of these little leash guys (or something like it) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J43YUUK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RZsXAbP1YX1KV
Native Union
Or
Anker
Either way go with a “braided” cable
Reversible USB 2.0 A Male to Micro USB Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UVRESIC
I find ones like this work really well, and don't require something stuck in your phone:
https://www.amazon.com/Tech-Armor-Lightning-Micro-Charging/dp/B01M3V61PQ
All you have to do is put the cap you want over the middle one. No pieces floating around either.
Edit: Oops, didn't notice that was unavailable. Here is another:
https://www.amazon.com/Baseus-Lightning-Multiple-Charging-Macbook/dp/B06XY1HG9G/ref=pd_sbs_107_1
Edit 2: Might as well just provide a link so you can choose one you want :)

You will first need to check this list and make sure your iPhone model is supported, and if so, then any Lightning to USB connection like this cable should work. Cheers mate :)
EDIT: You'll be using the Go 4 App I believe (at least that's what mine is on a Samsung Galaxy S4).

How do you like the buttons on the back? Seemed odd to me.
I just bought this for my Galaxy S3. It loses some of it's super thin profile, but it's really no worse than having a bulky case on it. It's getting it's initial charge now, so I'm hoping doubling the battery size (to one a third bigger than the Droid MAXX) that I'll get that kind of life (and more) out of it.
thanks for the info!
would this be able to hold the switch at 100% because it is USB-C to USB-C?
It's not that hard bro... here you go: https://www.amazon.com/Okra-Portable-Bluetooth-Receiver-Headphones/dp/B00N9HDQKW

Sorry bothering you but here is a question I have for ages: I need a new lightning cable but I will not buy one from Apple because they are poorly made and will fray in no time. I am wanting to buy this one from Syncwire but here is my problem. This cable is said to be MFI certified. I have seen cables described as "charger" cables and others described as "charger/sync" cable. I am a developer. I have purchased one of those "charger/sync" cables in the past and the cable worked great for charge and sync but when I tried to use the device with Xcode using that cable, the device was not recognized by Xcode. How do I know if the cable will work as an Apple cable (sync, charge, xcode)?
Hey Dude,
First time posting in this sub, but this is up my wheelhouse.
I've used this little guy for portable stereo builds. It will continue to run while provided with power. Also, since it's also audio, if you get a call on your phone it will go to your phone and cut sound to the speakers.
For my car, I use this guy. Pairs great. The only minor issue is that if you take a call, it's up on the loud speakers.
P.S. Awesome build! You should go for internal power ;)
AUKEY USB C Charger with 46W USB-C Power Delivery 3.0 & 5V/2.1A Ports USB Wall Charger for MacBook / Pro, iPhone X / 8 / Plus, Samsung Note8 and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074C2VZ2T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ns-FAbTKX54HR
I really doubt you need to worry about frying your devices. Also, if you want to charge to the max, you'll need new cables. Those USB A cords don't usually cut it. You'd be better off buying some usbc to lighting cables and usbc to usbc cables to keep around the house.
Don't worry about 3.0 cords either. Sounds like you'll need 2.0 cords only.
Apple MKQ42AM/A USB-C to Lightning Cable (2M) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DPSJQRG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_tj.FAbEVANME2
Anker PowerLine+ C to C 2.0 cable (6ft), High Durability, for USB Type-C Devices Including Galaxy S8, S8+, Google Pixel, Nexus 6P, Huawei Matebook, Nintendo Switch, MacBook and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LNA0XCU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6j.FAbJC0VEXV
Since no one has replied yet...
It looks like that first one is just a standard lightning cable, so I wouldn't expect it to integrate with the stereo. The second link looks like it should work.
If you don't need stereo integration and are fine with AUX, I'd recommend this. I just got it for my car and it works great!
Sharing my experience ordering on Amazon with shipping to Russia
TLDR: very bad.
In December I ordered Anker Lightning cable and additional NZXT magnetic puck. It was stuck in customs for a month and I am expected to receive it only today after waiting for 2 months. But what I am angry about is that I specified P.O. box, and instead of USPS the package was sent through UPS i-parcel and then here to Russia through the company called "Boxberry". They refuse to deliver to P.O. box. They refuse to leave it in one of their offices somewhere so that I can pick it up. They force delivery inside MKAD while I live outside, 10 kilometers away (6 freedom units). No warning from Amazon that the package is being sent through some private company that doesn't deliver to P.O. boxes. No ability to choose the carrier. Emails asking me to review products before even suggested delivery date (was expected 25 January and I got emails earlier). I am thinking about cancelling delivery and requesting a chargeback.
Just bought this model, very happy and feel really durable : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01GFA1ZCU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
30€ on amazon.de is not that bad, is it?
There are already cables for that:

Ordered... we'll see tomorrow. I picked up the 2m cable. If this works well, I would say that I would have to recommend this, especially if the new iPad Pro comes with a short lightning cable... get the 29W charger + the 2m USB-C male to lightning male cable:
Here is what I ordered:
Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter (MJ262LL/A) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VU2Z3J0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Apple MKQ42AM/A USB-C to Lightning Cable (2M) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DPSJQRG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also have this:

We'll see how the kit works out tomorrow with the new USB-C to Lightning cable.
Ok. Here we go! It’s impossible to tell you what the best of everything is, since the best for me, isn’t necessarily the best for you. So here’s my setup, and reasons why.
My iPhone XS is protected by one of two cases.
I use the Spigen Full Coverage Tempered Glass screen protector . It’s the least intrusive screen protector I have used. I love it. Combined with a case, it’s virtually invisible and it covers the entire screen without negative affects on Face ID or screen clarity. They are also cheap.
I have a Apple Watch Series 4 Nike+ and it’s protected by a RhinoShield CrashGuard NX. This is the only case I’ve found that fits, and doesn’t wear or tear like some of the other TPU cases out there. It’s saved my watch many times from hits and scuffs.
I’ve searched long and hard for a screen protector for my Watch I like, and ill be honest, I haven’t found a single one that doesn’t peel, and if it doesn’t (like glass) it will crack or chip. Many non-glass screen protectors distort the hell out of the display. In other words, screen protectors for the watch just aren’t worth it.
In the car, I use Anker PowerLine II USB to Lightning Cables. These cables are bulletproof. They have always maintained a great connection for me, they are braided and have been super durable when shoving them into small spaces like behind headliners, plastic trim etc in the car. The PowerLine v1 has a rubber coating instead of a braided line if you want a more subtle look.
For charging, beside my bed I have the Bestand 3 in 1 Qi Charger.
It charges my watch, AirPods and iPhone. It does require a multi USB port charger to power everything, so I use an Anker 40W, 5 port USB charger. This is perfect because I just have another long Anker PowerLine II cable going to the other side for my wife (she only has an iPhone).
I also carry a genuine Apple USB-C to Lightning cable and a Anker USB C Power Delivery 30W charger in my “Go Bag” just in case I need to quick charge my iPhone on the go.
I hope this helps!
"No show sock". socks that you cant see, they look like this
Yea. The picture I linked is one I cropped two ends from two different cords. That adapter you linked being one of them.
I didn't want the extra material of having an adapter plus a cord. I was thinking of buying that adapter and the cord I cropped in the pic. Then trying to splice together the desired ends. But that USB to lightning cable is $25, a little too much to be making a frankenstein cable. I was hoping someone has come across what I'm looking for.
Those are all good. If you want quality cables, buy Anker ones like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Powerline-Lightning-Certified-Compatibility/dp/B072JXXVP3/
they have a couple of colours and a bunch of lengths too.
For data connection, you'll need the apple cable that came in the box.
I have been using this charger for about 6 months with no issues at all:
https://www.amazon.it/Anker-Quick-Charge-Caricatore-PowerPort/dp/B01CHYHUEU/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494363640&sr=1-4&keywords=anker+usb+c
The Aukey one should also be fine, just a choice between USB-A to C or USB-C to C.
Just get a micro usb to lightning OTG cable (something like this) and it should work.
There's no difference of versions other than a different cable. I got the "iPhone version" and just bought an Android (usb-c) cable and it works fine.
If you go with Anker, I would go with the 10 foot version because it's actually $2 cheaper for some reason. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0177Q07ES/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-0PIybA269Z83
There are a few on amazon but you have to look pretty hard:
https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Astarye-Portable-Connector-Converter/dp/B075244VBV
I have some of these since I would rather use USB-C cables all the time and when I need micro, plug one of these in. You can use these leashes to make it really convenient, but they are expensive.

Hey there!
Thanks so much! \^_^ This will really help a lot. I've had lightning cables in the past that just got wrecked because of… whatever reason they got wrecked. I don't even know why, but this definitely will help a lot! Thank you!
Do you think that I could use tape to do it instead? I'm rather scared of the springs, because they're kind of sharp.
I've also been looking at angled and braided cables. They look like they could potentially be worth it. What do you think?
By the way, this seems like your first post. It's fine posting links here! Great first post by the way! :)

I got this one from amazon. Works great on my iPad and iPhone. Fits the controller perfectly.

I seriously doubt there will ever be replacement screens. I have a Blu R1 HD with a broken screen and have not been able to find replacement screens anywhere.
As for a longer charge cable, search amazon for quick charge cable. This one supposedly supports it.

This one should be good.

I bought this cable from Anker for my iPhone and I'm on my 4th one.
Their quality is really bad, it can't handle the every day bend from the usage.
Luckily for us, they have lifetime warranty (hence why I'm on my 4th one), but it's a pain to go through these so much. I still have my original iPhone cables and they've lasted, unfortunately they are just short.
I also had a different experience with their customer service, they were sticklers on me getting them the serial number that's very small and printed at the base of the USB side. I suppose they get so many requests now that they've revamped their service and just mulled over asking for it.
Yes?
That's not entirely true. You can use most USB devices with a Thunderbolt 3 port and no dongle. You do need different cables though, like these:

EDIT: Since I'm being downvoted I will clarify, but what I posted is still mostly true. You can get USB-C to A, B, lightning, etc. cables that can be used dongleless with the new MacBooks. Yes you have to invest in new cables which is a pain but there's a misconception that dongles are required for anything that's not a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 device. Apple of course doesn't make that clear so you will buy their dongles instead of getting new cables. If I'm wrong here then please show me where I have erred.
It uses a Micro-USB to USB cable. I use this one from Amazon to plug mine elite controller in to my PC and it works just fine: iOrange Micro-USB Cable
