These are the products featured in the image OP ripped from Twitter. They're a product literally made for the little cups to snap into. It doesn't work with just any random container.

You see these used everywhere in India. You cant microwave them obviously, but they'll keep you're food decently warm. easy to clean, modular ect.

LOVE THIS.

So at my house we have an assortment of like grocery bags, they're all sizes and materials. Just whatever's been acquired over the years. I do prefer the ones with a more structured box shape for groceries and keep the foldable ones for my purse/backpack/car for unplanned shopping or non-grocery shopping.

For produce, we use either net or mesh bags. I prefer the bigger net type bags usually. Sometimes for more leafy-fragile items I prefer the mesh ones. But everything is machine washable, so stains aren't a worry!

For items such as beans, chocolate chips, basically medium sized, dry items (rice is too small), I like to use cotton bags. Then I don't have to worry about the Tare and they're generally easy to fill up from those dispenser things. For the BIN # of these ones, I just write it down in my phone usually, I've heard you can use pencil right on the cotton though!

For items that would either get stuck in the seams of those bags or are dirtier or almond butter, I use glass jars. My grocery store is nice and I just had to weigh my jars once, they wrote it with Sharpie and I've just kept rewriting that weight whenever it washes off. Then I bring a chalk marker (I've had some laying around from crafting), and write the BIN on the top. It's nice cause my chalk markers are white and the sharpie is black so at the register I just tell the cashier, the tare's in black and bin's in white!

I also have a funnel for the glass jars that have a smaller mouth because I've made a mess in the aisle one too many times.

If I'm not bringing more than 1-2 glass jars, I can keep all of these items in a small grocery bag. I simply fold the grocery bags and lay them flat against one side, then put in the glass jars, then in the cracks put all the produce and bulk bags.

My house is pretty small, and our kitchen is right at the front door, so I just leave all our bags (produce, shopping, and bulk) in a large bag on the counter next to the door. All our glass jars are kept in the cupboard right by the door, so before my trip while making a list, I'll take out the right containers and put them in! If I end up with too many glass jars for the bag, I just take out a bigger grocery bag as my bag holder.

I bring everything to get me from 7-4 in a general office environment.

Breakfast - overnight oats: 3/4 cup old fashioned oats, coconut milk, PB2, frozen cherries and strawberries (they thaw overnight), and a banana. This is super portable if you find the right kind of jar/tupperware. I add the banana fresh in the morning. If I didn't leave the house at 6am, I would totally make a smoothie of spinach, a banana, and bunch of other fruit with coconut/almond milk, but the wife doesn't appreciate the roar of the magic bullet waking her up.

Lunch - the past two weeks has been rice and beans with frozen peas. I freeze half the week and microwave them at work. If you have access to a microwave that could work. EDIT - I use [these] (http://www.amazon.com/EasyLunchboxes-3-Compartment-Bento-Containers-Brights/dp/B00AD67KN6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449755268&sr=8-1&keywords=easy+lunchboxes+3-compartment) for my lunches. They have held up surprisingly well over the last 4 months for 5 days a week of microwaving 2-3 minutes at a stretch.

Snacks/stuff I may eat with lunch - a rice cake with peanut butter (usually have the PB in another small container), unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon, clementines

Almonds and other fruit are portable and last all day.

EDIT 2 - I have been noodling this around in my head this morning some more. It boils down to a lot of trial and error. I always start my first day at a new job with something portable and nonperishable. Things like fruit, nuts, and a PB sandwich. I can keep them with me and not worry about refrigeration or anything unknown with where I am working. I mean most places have a kitchen for their staff, but you don't want to be caught assuming and you have a wilted dead salad by the time you get to it.

Once you get the lay of the land, then you can begin to plan. But it comes down to what you have available and what you like to eat. I have gone from those Chinese take out plastic containers, to glass containers (awesome for soups and tomato based things, but the lids are the failing point), to my little three compartment deal and probably a few more steps in between. I tried to carry my lunch in my work bag, but that sucked. So I used plastic/reusable shopping bags. That sucked too. I eventually bought a cheap [lunch bag] (http://www.amazon.com/EasyLunchboxes-Insulated-Lunch-Cooler-Black/dp/B004UISANC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449768469&sr=8-1&keywords=easy+lunchboxes+insulated+lunch+box+cooler+bag) that I cram everything in. For the cost, it works great, but don't expect it to keep anything colder then the commute to work. Same goes with my water bottle/coffee mug. Used to have separate ones, now it is just one. Hell for a while I was using one of those 64oz ones that you take to kid's soccer games.

I like to prep on Sundays, lay everything out, and coast through the week. Other people rely on leftovers or making things the night before. Mine is actually a combo, I prep the oatmeal and odds and ends so I can just grab and go in the morning.

tl;dr There are no right answers. You do you and don't be afraid to mix things up as you figure things out.

Hey you should check out the Hot Logic! You can get glass dishes that fit it perfectly and can be reused. There are 12v and 120v versions. We use the 120v with an inverter for the car. My wife plugs her lunch in around 3-4 hours before she wants to eat it and it comes out perfect temperature every time.

u/shuckjive · 7 pointsr/gadgets

This. Get at least 2 because if you only get 1, it will never be anywhere near your car when you need it. With multiples, you have a better chance for success.

I usually start the printer before I leave for work in the morning. When I get home I will clean them up, so they sit as long as 6 hours before cleanup on a normal day. I have let them sit for 12+ hours before with no noticeable effect.

The cleaning / support removal process takes maybe 20 minutes including cleanup of the workstation. I cure them for about 20 minutes in a curing chamber as well.

I don't clean my tank unless there are resin bits on the FEP that won't squeegee off. The few times I have cleaned it, I filter the resin through a paint filter back into the bottle, then let ipa rest on the FEP for about 30 seconds, squeegee, and repeat as necessary to break up any hardened resin. Gotta be careful with this, I ruined a FEP trying to pick off dried resin.

Once I have completed cleaning, I wipe down the LCD screen with a clean antistatic cloth that I only use for this purpose, and it (hopefully) never touches resin.

I printed a vat cover on my FDM printer to seal it off when I'm not using it.

For the build plate, I bought some cheap microfiber shop towels from the hardware store, and I cut them up into patches. I put a small amount of IPA on the patch and wipe down the build plate, then toss the patch. I use these for general cleaning of my tools as well.

I posted some costs above:

> I'm estimating this is 3 - 4 liters of resin. Resin is about $40 per liter. Anycubic Photon is for sale on Amazon right now for $270. There are some other expenses associated with a resin printer. Safety equipment (nitrile gloves, safety glasses, apron, ventilation if needed), cleaning supplies (IPA, IPA storage, Ultrasonic Cleaner is optional), and consumable parts for the printer (FEP and LCD screen have to be replaced periodically).
>
>I bought an ultrasonic cleaner because its easier. it was about $60. Also I recommend a ventilation system unless you can put this in a garage that people aren't occupying. Fan, duct, and carbon filter were probably $50 - $60 total.
>
>I wouldn't say its a cheap hobby, but it definitely could be worse.

Some procedural stuff:

I like to remove supports before IPA bath. It seems to give a better finish to any spots the supports make.

I have 3 IPA baths - An older "dirty" IPA bath, a large ziplock bag with IPA, and a newer "clean" bath.

After cutting supports, I dunk the minis in the dirty bath, then toss them in the ziplock bag. I put the ziplock bag in an ultrasonic cleaner filled with water for 5 minutes, as shown in this link https://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/19690000520.pdf

I then remove the models and do a dunk and a light shake in the clean bath, which is a pickle container with strainer

This all may be over kill but its pretty quick and hasn't failed me yet.

I remove and put the models in the UV chamber for 20 minutes, give or take.

I do all my work on a sheet of wax paper, so when I'm done I can wad up all my waste and toss it.

That is pretty much my process.

Occasionally I will set my sealed IPA containers in the sun so the resin drops out. I am still looking for a good way to filter the dry resin out of the IPA. For now it just settles at the bottom of the container.

SO and I have been using these for about a month now and we love them. They're the perfect size and don't take up too much space in the fridge like the three compartmented ones. They're made in the USA and I've never had a problem washing them in the dishwasher or microwaving them. (Just pop two of the corners to vent when you do!)

u/FormerFatBarbie · 4 pointsr/loseit
  1. I'm all about DIY-ing my own "Lean Cuisines" and microwaveable meals, not just for the cost, but so I can control exactly what goes into every meal. If you can set aside one afternoon a week - like Sundays - to put together your lunches and dinners for the week, you can save yourself the cost of store-bought meals, add only the things you like to eat, and keep track of every single thing in each meal. There are a zillion Lean Cuisine-style recipes online (Pinterest!), and here's an example of one recipe you can make. Rather than make a whole bunch of different ones at a time, I make a huge batches of 1-2 different recipes, portion and freeze them (we have a deep freezer, specifically for freezing huge batches of stuff, that I found on Craigslist for $50), and over the next month or so, build up a reserve of a dozen or so different recipes. That way, it's easy to prepare because it's only one or two different recipes at one, but my husband isn't stuck eating the same thing every day. I use these reusable, freezer-safe, microwaveable containers - I bought both the individual portion and dual-portioned ones about two years ago, and so far my husband has only lost one and cracked one, and he's pretty rough on them.

  2. I also aim for 1200/day and I strive for a minimum of 30 minutes/maximum of 90 minutes of cardio per day, plus strength training. I don't really rely on "calories burned" calculations from machines or MyFitnessPal, because they all seem to overestimate, but I'd guess I'm burning ~100-150 per 30 minutes. I don't usually eat back exercise calories and I haven't had any issues thus far, but the key point here is to a) go at your own pace and don't overwork yourself, and b) listen to your body. If you feel fatigued, overly hungry, or you're in pain beyond regular soreness, scale back your workouts as needed.

  3. I'm not big on shakes, but if I'm not in the mood and/or don't have time to eat, I'll make a shake or a smoothie as a meal replacement. If Slimfast works for you, go for it! You can also DIY your own Slimfast (or any other protein/meal replacement) shakes as well, and in batches, just like with pre-made frozen meals - I use a bullet blender, homemade yogurt, fresh/frozen fruit, veggies, protein powder and/or milk for shakes and smoothies for my entire family. Since my husband gets up before I do, I make big batches of his morning smoothie, minus the ice, and leave a portion in a blender cup in the fridge - all he has to do is add ice and blend for 60 seconds, and instant breakfast! Blender bottles are also awesome for shakes, and for protein powder, instant breakfast powders and making chocolate milk :)

  4. DIY Lunchables! We actually started making our own "Lunchables" three years ago, when my son started kindergarten. He loves the pizza and chicken nugget ones, but there's never enough food in them, what little food they do have is overly processed, and those suckers get expensive fast! I bought two sets (four containers each) of Easy Lunchboxes, which are portioned just like Lunchables containers, and a set of eight dip containers. I also bought a few of Rubbermaid's LunchBlox sets and my husband thought they were so awesome, I ordered a few more adult-sized ones for him :) The Easy Lunchboxes are microwave- and dishwasher-safe, although I've never used them in the freezer, and you can find literally every Lunchables recipe combination online (again, Pinterest!). I make huge batches of pizza sauce and freeze them in individually-portioned sandwich bags, then make mini pizza rounds and freeze those in sets of 3-4, and whenever he wants pizza Lunchables, I pull a sauce and a set of rounds out the night before to thaw - just add shredded cheese and whatever toppings you want, toss in some baby carrots, cut-up strawberries and whatever else you want. You can also do chicken nuggets (I make my own, but it's time- and labor-intensive, so store-bought might be a better option for you), wraps, literally anything else you want, and I guarantee there's a tutorial available with how to recreate it :)

Your story sounds almost identical to what mine was a year ago. When I started I had the same idea, it's true that no one will think twice about seeing a skinny guy at the gym (people told me the same thing) but it's a hard mentality to shake.

What I did was go at the asscrack of dawn when it was the slowest time of day (usually got there between 6 and 7AM when it opened). Added benefit to this is that you almost never have to wait for equipment. Also sticking to it forces you to get into a good sleeping pattern which is crucial to staying healthy and recovering after lifting all the heavy things you can see. I can't emphasize sleep enough, not just getting 8 hours (or whatever you need) a night but on a consistent schedule (like 10PM to 6AM every night).

Focusing on the meals, I know the feeling. The last thing I wanted to do during the week after coming home from 10 hours of class and a job was spend time cooking. For the select few that seem to enjoy that, good for them, but let's think about realistic things here.

  • Skinny guys gaining mass
  • Changing sleep schedule from staying up to 6AM to waking up then instead
  • You quitting smoking (You got this)

These are things that have a good chance of happening, but me ever enjoying cooking and doing it daily? I'm putting that right up there with pig's sprouting a set of wings and flying.

Head over to /r/mealprepsunday and check out what we do over there. Figure out your macro's, come up with a few meals that fit those as closely as you can, then buy a set of tupperware of amazon (like this). Saturday afternoon/Sunday morning go out and buy the ingredients then get home and cook it all. Now you're set for a week of meals that you don't have to do anything more than microwave for a minute or two. Start with simple ones to begin, a few ingredients that are easy to scale up and cook 5-7 portions at once with. Then you'll get a feel for what you can do and what you enjoy making.

This is what worked for me, change, alter, trash whatever is needed to get a working plan for you. When you feel low on motivation think about dem gainz and force yourself to go workout, take out the trash, cook the meals. Whatever it was you were thinking of putting off, don't. It's not one single thing you can do to change everything, it's an entire lifestyle to adopt. You got this.

I have a bunch of these. The dressing container stays in place really well, and if it pops out it just falls on your salad so it's not a big deal. I throw my lunch (salad or soups) in my bag, so it gets tossed around a lot and I haven't had any issues with leaking.

  • Food: PB2 (I could never go back to regular peanut butter again). Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla coffee grounds, [Salsa Chicken] (http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/2-ingredient-slow-cooker-salsa-chicken-recipe/),

  • Apps: Libra for Android, Map My Fitness (For Walking, Running, Cycling, and Swimming ... I think), Pokemon Go, Fitbit, MFP, and Spotify (you can download playlists to your phone when connected to the internet and then listen to them when you are without data or wifi -- e.g. the middle of nowhere northern Minnesota)

  • Websites: MFP, Skinnytaste.com,

  • Wearables: Fitbit Charge HR (I love mine!), Torrid sports bras. (They are pricy, but if you are a larger woman who cannot fit into Victoria's Secret sports bras then these are a nice compromise). Saucony Running Shoes

  • Books: Eat This, Not That, The Body Image Workbook (I have been using this with my therapist to help me change my negative self talk about my body into positive talk. Much of my issues with food stem from hating my body and being self destructive as a form of hurting what I hate. It's worth a look for those who suffer from similar issues)

  • Misc.: Bento Boxes, digital food scale, liquid and dry measuring cups/spoons, and a jigger (especially if you drink liquor -- I realized that MY shot of vodka was actually 2 1/2 jiggers (shots) which is almost a 140 cal difference.

Why don't you use reusable produce bags like these? You might pay a few extra pennies since they're very slightly heavier than plastic, but not by much.

I have these salad bowls that are rather large. In the lid there's a place that you can snap your dressing into it in it's own little cup, so you can add the dressing when you're ready. They're fucking fantastic. 32oz too, so can make a hefty fucking salad. I think they're done by Glad.

OH FOUND THEM!

Probably better places to get them, but that's what I use.

Still haven’t been able to get back to running yet but my Achilles tendinitis has greatly improved so maybe soon. I’m in PT and try to do all my exercises and stretches daily.

My meal prep containers arrived from Amazon so I’m super excited about that. I stayed up late making a double batch of red beans and rice. I’ll start learning more and tinkering and figuring out what works for me with meal prep.

And I have a (6th) date with Lamb Chops tonight. I’m bringing over some red beans and rice and he is making corn bread. He’s always cooking for me so this is my chance to finally show off my cooking skills and feed him. :D Things are really well and I’m starting to get a bf/gf vibe from us. We didn’t have plans this weekend but I got texts Saturday morning letting me know how much fun he had Friday, including a video. Lol. And we texted through the day Saturday. That’s new for us as we don’t text much.

Oh and I got a bunch of Smartwool socks and other stuff on discount that’s arriving today! So a bunch of happy but low key stuff for me lately. :)

>I am a master's student here in Germany, and would like to contribute in some way, if I can. Of course, money is a barrier for me(being a student and all), but what are some simple things that I can do as a student and also encourage my classmates to do ?

Basically all the things mentioned in the original post. Most of that is even going to save you money. Eat less meat, buy less pre-prepared and packaged food or coffee to go, generally just buy less stuff you don't really need....

Unless you are already keeping your house fairly cool consider turning the heating down just a tiny bit. Turning the heating down just one degree saves like 6% of energy a year, as far as I know. Take shorter showers. Take your own lunch to work/university in a reusable container, do the same with water.....

And my personal pet peeve: don't use the small clear plastic bags in the fruit and vegetable section of the supermarket. Unless you buy very small fruit like cherries they're just not necessary. You can buy three potatoes or four kiwis without any bag at all. And for the rare occasions when you really do need a bag you could even bring your own reusable ones like these: https://www.amazon.de/Earthwise-wiederverwendbare-Netztaschen-Obst-Gemüse/dp/B01M24RXF7/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1541065932&sr=8-4&keywords=obsttüte

My green minis are mostly undead, skeletons and zombies etc. The skeletons are the most flimsy with thin bones and swords, one of them survived a waist high drop onto a wooden floor, although I wouldn't want to repeat it.

Cleaning and curing involves two IPA baths for about minute each with gentle shaking (these containers are great). Then they get a bath in hot tap water and a gentle rub with a soft toothbrush. A lot of the thinner supports will literally fall off by this point, then I'll go round with my flush cutters and remove any remaining supports. Next is a craft knife to remove any marks or lumps left by the supports before putting the mini under an LED UV nail lamp to finish curing.

Aww, poor thing!

Yeah, going zero-waste at normal grocery stores is a drag and so much harder than you would think. If you're open to advice, I'd say get some lightweight produce bags online (you can get solids or mesh, and you'll want solids if you're getting dusty things like oatmeal) and use those instead. No tare-ing, no breaking of glass, no waste, everyone's happy. All I do is fold the little print out with the weight and price along the string, and then rip it off when I get home. You pay a tiiiiny bit extra, since the tare scale usually reduces your price by the weight of their available bags, but it's less work for everyone.

You're also way braver than I am. I've yet to venture into asking for meat in my own container. I get nervous just thinking about it...

Anyway, I promise your next experience will be better! We all have moments like that-- it's part of doing something the rest of the world doesn't. You'll have better luck next time!

Edit: This is the kind of thing I'd get for dusty stuff

And this is what I use for everything else

This is what we use. We purchased 20 of them and have only lost 1 after 2+ years of using them. The one we lost cracked on the bottom of the large section.

Freezer to microwave then dishwasher to clean and only lost 1.

They have different sellers but they've all been the same product.

That is really cool, but may I suggest that when you need to get more, consider cotton mesh sacks? These bags have an ethylene blocker, which is why the fruit/veggies take longer to ripen. However, they trap condensation. Cotton mesh allows for the gas released by fruit/veggies, and won't trap condensation. Here's a link to a good website that has sustainable bags, but if that isn't a huge concern, you can get them cheaper on Amazon. I bought mine about 3 years ago, and they still work. Except for the one that got lost.

Ok I've been around this block a few times and I still feel like a total newb. I had a break down recently and I need help not getting obsessed with numbers. I was freaking about about calorie counting and macros for a while with little to no change and working out more before. I broke down and I spoke to my LPC.

I've always had a body image issue, whether its 90 lbs or at my current weight of 135. My friends see my progress but i don't in the mirror. I see flabby arms until i flex, less cellulite, and stronger calfs, but my belly is killing me. I love yoga and I have an elliptical but I feel my cardio is improved if i go for a walk or just jumping jacks. I find it hard to have the energy to do more then 20-30 minutes a day if even that. Let's say I'm working out 3 times a week about 20 minutes.

On to food the usual is nutragrain bar or belvita breakfast biscuits with coffee or green tea. Lunch is meal prepped and will either be chicken (last week it was grilled with flour and pesto; spray to keep it from sticking) or beef (this week meatball, crock pot:herbs garlic and tomato sauce), veggies like this or this, and some brown rice or a pasta in a bento like so. Dinner I try not to mindless snack, but i do chips with 1 serving of a 100 cal guacamole or a cheddar and a few crackers, but it's either nothing or a bowl of more vegetables.

I think I have fuckarounditis or have just lost all motivation because I'm bound to be overweight or jiggly forever. Help me reddit.

CW: 135 GW: 120-125 5ft0 Halp

TL;DR: How do I cut calories without counting them? Where do I find the motivation to work out in my busy schedule? Is my diet ok?

> Also taking suggestions for leak-proof tupperware. Preferably with 2 or 3 compartments!

Consider a tiffin box! I've used them for soup and salads in the past and they're terrific. Downside is the metal is not microwaveable, but they make some out of plastic.

u/throwawayheyheyhey08 · 1 pointr/MealPrepSunday

I use [these] (https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Bento-Lunch-Box-Set/dp/B00YFTH8WU/ref=lp_2457292011_1_8?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1467299378&sr=1-8) sometimes, but also I do mason-jar style salads in [ziploc twist n loc] (http://www.target.com/p/ziploc-twist-n-loc-containers-medium-4-cup/-/A-47992253?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=PLA_Grocery%2BEssentials%2BShopping&adgroup=SC_Grocery&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=c&location=9027581&gclid=Cj0KEQjwhtO7BRCtwuO9gfTH-fQBEiQAdJ8FY7h4zLx3erPRUyi2j1vGjM7Zw-2dNIf3_794ulPxWlcaAhrW8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds) containers. I prefer plastic to using a mason jar because I'm really clumsy. As long as you layer it the right way, salads will stay fresh and crispy for 5 days. I also have the smaller size twist n loc and I use for fruit and yogurt (fruit on the top, yogurt in the bottom). So much cheaper to buy one big plain or vanilla container of yogurt and then add fruit vs. buying the individual-sized fruit on the bottom kind of cups. Plus you can control how much sugar, what kind of fruit (organic), etc.

u/WhiteLaceTank · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Something like this? It's a little boring, but at least it won't be mocked in the break room.

u/DNA_ligase · 1 pointr/MealPrepSunday

If you're not going to microwave the food, a layered tiffin box could be up your alley. Example, if you have an Indian store anywhere nearby, they're usually a bit cheaper there.

Back in the day, I had a brown paper-bag-style lunch box like this or this. I lost it years ago (so I would not be able to tell you the name), but it was a fun design and it worked.

u/SuspiciousRhubarb4 · 1 pointr/Cooking

You're welcome and good luck, I totally empathize with your position so I just wrote what I'd write to my past self.

I'll add a couple more tips:

Google Sheets & Google Keep are your best friends. Make a sheet containing recipes you'd like to try, and as you cook them, fill in a column indicating when you last cooked it, and a column containing a ease-of-prep score, a column with a quality score, and a notes column. Then each week make a new sheet for the upcoming week with a section for each day's recipe and a section for ingredients you need to buy (I have two of those since I buy perishables twice a week). Once you have your week planned, copy that list of ingredients and paste it (control+shift+v to strip any formatting) into a new Google Keep list, click the "..." on the bottom of the list then "Show Checkboxes" to make a list you can easily check off at the store with the Google Keep phone app. I thought planning a week ahead would feel stifling or that I would change my mind midway through the week, but I actually really enjoy it. I generally cook three new recipes a week and three old ones.

Everything I cook I eat the next day for leftovers using some generic meal prep containers. Since I live alone cooking just wouldn't be worth it otherwise. Since most recipes make 3+ servings, I'll often freeze something since every two frozen meals is one less day I need to cook. Curries, chili, soups, and rice-based dishes all freeze great. Pour servings of soups, stews, and chili into quart-sized freezer bags then lay them flat in the freezer to save tons of room. Any additional leftovers I just throw in the work fridge and someone usually eats it.

Lastly, if you have time to lean, then you have time to clean. In other words, never ever spend a single idle second in your kitchen while cooking. Waiting 30 seconds for the garlic to saute? Dump your prep scrap bin in the trash. Got 5 minutes while the onions saute? Clean your cutting board and knife. Rice needs to rest for 10 minutes covered before you serve? Clean & reset/store your whole prep station. Here's a big one: Simmering a sauce for 20 minutes? Take a look at the recipe you're going to be cooking tomorrow. Peel your veggies, chop your onions, and peel your garlic then toss them in a Ziploc so they're ready to go tomorrow. The feeling of pulling pre-prepped stuff out of the fridge is amazing.

If getting an IKEA bag isn’t an option, I got these from Amazon and they’ve been great. I keep a folded one in my bag at all times and I keep two of them in my car for when I go grocery shopping. They can hold the amount of I would say around 2-3 regular plastic bags.

u/slashtomorrow · 1 pointr/Goruck

I'll say it's not quite my wheelhouse. I think mine is pretty basic, but it was cheap.

I'm able to fit a fair amount of food in it, but I haven't ever really packed a meal in the box that had to be constructed when it was time to eat (e.g. some kind of noodle dish in the bottom with fixings in the upper compartments). It's certainly not built for liquids, and the seal is pretty reliant on the nylon strap. All that said, it fits my needs for now.

This one seems like it could pack some serious meals, but at the expense of not being as compact. I think a good box is one that could feasibly fit your regular lunches but also inspire you to think of new meal ideas.

Sorry for the long post.

I will agree that switching them would definitely be better haha, but until I start freezing extra rice the lowest amount of dry rice I dare to use in the rice cooker is 1/2 a cup. So I have a bentgo brand Bento box and I make stuff a lot for it. I've never priced it but I imagine it comes out cheap.

Bottom half is normally a salad, bagged stuff with slivered almonds, tomatoes, some cheese, and a small container of dressing. Top half is rice and some meat I threw in the oven with some seasonings and sauces for flavor.

I can get DD bags cheaper, around $4 or $5 at the local office, but considering mine only lasted two weeks, you can kinda see why I didn't bother buying another one. Plus it really sucks for Denny's and IHOP orders which are usually wider than the bag, so I got these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B071ZNFVMD which have held up well. And remember, if you have a Discover card (and likely other cards), it's possible to get your stuff from Amazon for free.

Around 15 years ago I read about a study of men who ate TV Dinners (sorry, no reference handy) vs. men who "free ate" (i.e. ate their typical diet). At the end of 12 weeks the men who ate only the TV dinners had all lost weight compared to an average (if slight) gain in the men who free ate. I remember at the time the surprise the study elicited because people thought the high levels of sodium in TV Dinners would limit weight gain.

So, long story short... TV Dinners provide great, built-in portion control. If that helps you (and I know it helps me), go for it. Personally, I picked up a punch of Meal Prep Dishes and use them to make my own "TV Dinners" on Sunday. I freeze whatever I won't eat in the next 72 hours to avoid spoilage.

To add variety, I suggest making two or three different meals and portioning them out. I also do it for my kids' lunches... makes getting ready for work and school a five minute process in the morning of instead of a sixty minute one.

FYI, especially for those I talked with about bento boxes yesterday.

Ironically, the Bento boxes I was most interested in are Amazon's lightning deal of the day! Only $8.99, regularly $14.99. They're nice boxes, so if anyone else was interested in getting some, snap them up! All colors qualify. I finally used up some Amazon credit I had and ordered one for me and one for the bf.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TBYVB3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They're cotton and I love that they have the tare weights attached. The only con is that they're kinda expensive compared to other mesh bags out there and the largest size isn't that large. However they are very good quality.

I do have non mesh cotton bags for grainy things and moist veggies that have been sitting under the sprinklers. The veggies are sold by bundle so weight of the bag doesn't matter but if it's for bulk seeds and grains then i'll head to the cashier to get the tare weight for the bag before I shop. I just write it on my phone.

I use these for meal prep and am perfectly happy with them. Never had any problem with them, don't crack, dishwasher safe, they stack nicely. They're NOT spill proof, IE if your food is real liquidy, just don't be an idiot. Pastas etc, no problem.

How long will frozen food last? Depends on the food.

Check out Easy Lunch Boxes if you're in need of good containers for meal prepping. I just bought these recently and I'm obsessed. They're sturdy, pretty leak-proof, and the individual compartments are the perfect size for a main dish, side snack, and dessert/condiment/topping.

Take advantage of one pan dinners - lay vegetables on a cookie sheet, lay some chicken breasts or fish filets on top, and drizzle with olive oil and your favorite spices. Add a few lemon or lime slices and bake the whole thing (cover with foil for the first 20 minutes so the meat/fish doesn't dry out) until it's done to your liking. This makes a really large meal, it's easy, and it can be really healthy (or you can be like me and cover everything with cheese).

u/crudivore · 1 pointr/MealPrepSunday

I bought this and it works pretty well. It's about 2.5" tall, advertised as water-tight, though I haven't put it to the test. Can't speak to the capacity, because I haven't measured it specifically, but I'd say it can hold more than 20oz. If you browse Amazon a bit, there are single and 3 compartment versions as well.
