Pretty sure it's this old kit from Bandai: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0012HJDBM

The price there btw is highway robbery for what this kit is. It's a no-grade Bandai kit from 2007 that was made in Korea, not Japan. It's the kind of kit that would have originally sold for a third of this asking price: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10012749

Problem is, it's so old and out of print that the prices get inflated to dumb levels, so good luck finding one.

I actually bought this from HLJ but here is the amazon link.

u/Zeron175 · 7 pointsr/Gundam

Your best bet is to delete this and post it again on r/Gunpla. They have an incredibly friendly community and they'd love to help you choose a good model to start with, as well as give you some recommendations on beginner tools.

For a more immediate answerm there are three MG versions of the Wing The TV version, the EW Version, the EW Zero Version, and the Proto Zero. The Wing Zero EW is an older kit, but does have the angel-style wings if you're looking for those, and my personal preference is the Wing EW.

Also, while there's certainly nothing wrong with starting with an MG, I highly recommend with either the HG Wing, or the HG Wing Zero. They're both really modern HG's that look great out of the box, and are cheaper too.

At the end of the day, you should definitely check out r/Gunpla for any further questions, or even just to check out some builds you're interested in.

u/PuppyShy · 7 pointsr/battlestations

Just so you know if you're not aware, Master Grade model kits (which I assume this is) are pretty affordable and all of the plastic runners come pre-colored so painting isn't at all necessary. Also the kits are entirely snap fit! So you don't even have to glue and wait, it's awesome. The hobby has gotten much more accessible In recent years. :) Head on over to r/gunpla for more details if you think you'd like to get into it!

P.S. the MG Deathscythe Endless Waltz variant is $40 on amazon with prime shipping right now. <3

P.S.S. if anyone wants a quick start guide to the hobby just let me know and I'll post an update to this comment with all you'd ever need.

u/Bortjort · 6 pointsr/Gunpla

HG Gouf Custom if a fan favorite kit and is only $20. The gun and shield unit is really fun to build and it's not too hard for new builders. My choice from a more modern series (if that matters) would be the 00 Raiser with GN Sword III because it's fun to build, has a neat weapon, and the backpack and outer wings turn into a little separate jet which is neat.

u/TaurusOxford · 6 pointsr/Gunpla

If you want to get back into Gunpla again, I would suggest you not try to salvage an old model kit. Since you like Wing, give this model a try: https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-XXXG-01W-Gundam-Model/dp/B00E36ROZ6/ref=pd_sim_21_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=C5TGB7KJW1WY52HRK0DH

Gunpla has advanced a great since the days of the old Wing kits - building something modern might be the ticket to reinvigorating your interest.

u/yamiyaiba · 5 pointsr/Gundam

Welcome to the hobby, friend! Here's a few useful tidbits of info for you.

None of the Gundam kits from the last 20 or so years need glue. That's a standard feature across pretty much every Gundam model kit. So in that regard, feel free to pick any design you like. Not all kits are created equally, but a quick search across this subreddit will help you figure out if the kit you're looking at happens to be hot garbage (and there are a few that are).

To more directly answer your question, the starter set uses an older model of the classic RX-78-02 Gundam. The Revive version is a much, much better model. You can find it here on Amazon.

A panel lining pen (or pens) are not required, but certainly make for a better final product. They're pretty cheap on their own, and generally you'll want at least grey and black, and possibly also brown. Alternatively, you can get a pack of all 3. You'll also want so basic q-tips/cotton swabs to clean up your panel looking.

You're also going to need some nippers. Nippers come in a range of types, qualities, and styles. The best nippers are single sided (that is, one side is a blade and the other is flat). These, the infamous Godhands are hands down the best nippers on the market. They're expensive as shit, but worth every penny. If you're on a medium budget, Tamiya's nippers are the next best option. There are cheaper nippers out there, but they're gonna come with significantly inferior results. That said, a lot of that can be addressed with...

A good hobby knife. You'll be just fine with a simple, cheap X-Acto knife, but there is (in my opinion) a better option. My personal favorite, the Tamiya Design Knife. It's got a slightly smaller blade, which will let you get into tighter spaces with it. It also comes with a metric crapton of replacement blades. You'll want to replace the blade every couple kits, but there's a bunch of them in there. There same container that holds the replacement blades even has a second chamber to dispose of your old blades into.

Finally, you may want some fine pointed (possibly angled) tweezers for decal application. Finger oils can screw up the adhesive on the stickers. You can pass on this starting off most likely, but you'll want to get some eventually.

TL;DR, the starter pack isn't the best option. If you're after the granddaddy Gundam, get the Revive. Otherwise, pick your favorite design. The newer the kit, the better, generally speaking. Look at the copyright date on the box cover to see. Bottom left corner.

You're going to need nippers, which can get pricey, but the cost is worth it. Start with a mediocre pair, and upgrade to the Godhands once you're committed to the hobby. You'll need a knife, too. You can cheap out on this one, but there are better options IMO.

Optionally, get tweezers, panel lining pens, and cotton swabs.

Edit: other good starter kits

HG Barbatos is a great kit. The build process for IBO models is a bit different than other gunpla, though, as they have a quasi-inner frame.

HG 00 Gundam is another great starter. It's also the first kit I ever panel lined, and it was a great starter for that.

If you're wanting a Zaku, the HG The Origin Zaku II Type C is probably the best Zaku kit released to date in 1/144 scale.

Finally, I'd feel bad for not suggesting my all time favorite HG build. It was just a fun, fun kit to make and to pose. The HG 1.5 Gundam. It's got some really cool gimmicks and, unique colors, and an awesome design.

u/Orgell_Evaan · 4 pointsr/SciFiModels

Bandai is (IMO) the top of the Japanese heap, model-wise - well-engineered, complex but not fiddly. Their Eva offerings are OK, but where they really shine is the Gundam stuff. Currently, they're available as 1/144 HG (no inner frames, decent articulation and detail), 1/144 RG (inner frames and high detail) 1/100 Re/100 (no inner frames, decent external detail, 'niche' MS) 1/100 MG (current ones have internal frames and high detail; older ones, not so much), 1/60 PG (big scale, high detail inside and out), and some 1/144, 1/100 and other 'No Grade' (older, low-articulation, low color separation kits), and some non-Gundam stuff like VOTOMS (we'll get there in a bit). Like everything else, newer kits will have better parts layouts than older kits. You can check Dalong.net, for visual reviews, parts counts, scale comparisons, and so forth.

In HG, most of the kits from Char's Counterattack, Unicorn, Build Fighters/Try and Iron Blooded Orphans on are excellent kits, with prices running from £6 up to £35

In RG, (IMO) the best kit, in terms of detail, design, and durability is the RG Gundam Mk II AEUG, priced at a very reasonable £15.

MG run from £16.75 up (Ball is love; Ball is life) up to the mind-blowing, £95 Sazabi ver.Ka. Yes, it's pricey, but it's one of the best-engineered models you'll ever build. 37 runners of multicolored, snap-fit glory.

PGs are well out of your price range, all well over the £100 mark.

Outside the Gundamverse, Bandai also does 1/20 VOTOMS; but slightly over your cap at £65 They also do Macross kits (the current series is Delta; kits are just now being released), but their transforming requirements make them a little explodey. They also do Yamato and other spacecraft; I don't have a lot of experience with them.

Past Bandai, Kotobukiya does some excellent Armored Core (among other properties) kits; they are a little finickier fit wise, and a little pricier, coming in at around £45 and up. They work best for experienced modelers who aren't afraid of complex painting jobs. Hasegawa does non-transforming Valkyries; they will need glue and paint to look good. Hasegawa also does the love-to-get-grubby, need-glue-and-paint-and-patience Maschinen Krieger line.

Beyond that, you start getting into smaller makers, and resin kits, and imports direct from Asia, and probably out of your area of interest.

I went looking as I too am a zaku fan and it looks like amazon’s got you covered.

u/MS14JG-2 · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

In regards to question one, you should be looking for kits marked HGUC, for Zeon stuff you want anything produced from 2006 onwards. There are a few exceptions to this rule but not many. (What's a Dojanger?) Simpler stuff would like a Zaku or Dom right? For Master Grade Zeon kits you're looking for anything marked 2.0 or have a year past 2005.

Here are a few kits I'd suggest.
MG Gelgoog 2.0

While an Older kit the MG Dom has aged like fine wine.

People love the MG Zaku 2.0 to this day and it's got tons of variants.

On the HGUC Side here are a few suggestions.

HGUC Zaku II FZ type.

HGUC Gouf Custom.

If you're looking for something specific though check Dalong.net, it's in Korean but it's one of the most detailed kit catalogs out there.

Separate waterslides are completely optional, most modern MG kits use dry transfers which are... hit and miss, 1/144 kits use stickers which for straight build purposes are better since they're harder to screw up.

Welcome to the hobby! If you're new to Gundam then I would suggest looking into kits from the series you're watching/most familiar with. There's useful links on the sidebar for tips and tricks while building, but a Gundam Marker, A Hobby Knife, and a pair of Side Cutters for Plastic should be a decent start.

Actually I'd suggest getting the HG Gunpla Starter Set #1 or #2. This tool set is also a pretty good starting point for the tools you'll need while building.

Where are you from? Because if you're in the US there's a number of stores that sells gunpla. Otherwise there's HLJ and Hobby Search for importing.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you've more questions.

u/OldDrunkGhost · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

I just ordered these guys (1,2) along with some lining pens. I've never seen the anime or anything, so I'm just picking them based on what I think looks cool.

u/SuperheatedSteam · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

Aile Strike Ver. RM is supposed to be a very good kit: It even includes ArcAngel launch stand, and for the Amazon price of 40 USD, its actually cheaper than Bandai's suggested retail price of 4200 JPY.

Strike Rouge Otori is currently at an okay price: 44 USD compared to Bandai's 4200 JPY suggestion. It includes a stand, but not the launch bay stand.

/u/GunplaGamer suggested the RX-78-2 3.0. I suggest that one too, especially for the current price on Amazon.
***
The aforementioned kits are the ones I quickly found that were under 50 and had a decent price compared to the Japanese retail prices. Have fun not being at the beach! :D

u/Maloth_Warblade · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

I waited for 3 months for my Kampfer from HLJ before I just cancelled the order. Placed it on amazon and was at my house in 3 weeks, and I managed to pay $1 less than HLJ after shipping.

Sometimes you just have to be patient, other times you have to pay a slight difference for justified impatience.

Speaking of..

u/Muezza · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

There was a fairly recent release of a High Grade Wing Gundam Zero kit, but it looks like he prefers MGs... I think there are a few variations of the Wing Gundam kit, such as the Proto Version, Wing Gundam(EW), Wing Zero(EW). or if you want to be the best friend ever there is the Perfect Grade Wing Gundam.

If he is a fan of the Gundam Wing series, it is worth considering Deathscyth, Deathscythe Hell, or Sandrock, which are other 'protagonist' mobile suits that fight sort-of along side the Wing Gundam.

There is also Epyon and Tallgeese, two 'bad guy' mobile suits from the same series.

If he is a fan of the original Gundam series, the RX-78 or a Zaku kit(there are many variations) would be good as well.

Also, be careful buying on Amazon if you want it to be delivered by the 10th (or shortly after). Quite a few of the sellers with good prices are based in Japan so it can take upwards of a month or more for the item to arrive if you buy it from them. It can be easy to miss that information if you're not paying attention.

u/UlfgardTheFoolhardy · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

No, I got this one from Amazon.

u/soozafone · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

I started without watching too. Super hooked now. Please help.

My starter suggestions:

  • HG Revive RX-78-2 - This is the "Granddaddy" Gundam, and this recent version of it is cheap, easy, and super fun to play with.

  • HG Origin Char's Zaku II - The classic antagonist, another excellent model. Whereas the Revive goes for a sleek and simple look, this guy instead goes for extra detail while still being rock solid.

  • HG 00 Raiser - Holds a special place in my heart as the second model I put together when I was in the same position as you. Also excellent model.

  • HG Gundam Fenice - Representing the Build Fighters line, which are stylistic, modified versions of other kits. I recommend watching the anime (both seasons available on YouTube) as well.

  • MG Ball ver. Ka - A gentle introduction to the MG 1/100 scale. Bigger, more details. Lots of decals. Everyone on this sub loves the Ball for some reason.

  • RG Astray Red Frame - Real Grades are the same size as High Grades, but with hella more detail and lots of tiny parts. You get a lot in a small package, for a low price. Tackle this once you're confident in your building abilities because they do require more patience and precision. Red Frame is one of the better ones IMO.

Right now all of these are available at pretty good prices with Prime shipping from Amazon.

    Happy building!
u/Toasty_Ghost98 · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

I've seen a couple of pre-built kits on Ebay for pretty damn cheap. Depends on shipping really.

You could also wait/search for giveaways or Reddit auctions. They're pretty rare from what i've seen but they're there.

But really, you would probably have an easier time just buying a really cheap one from amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/Gundam-RGM-79-HGUC-144-Scale/dp/B00030EU4E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=hguc+gm

I mean serious. I'm sure you have $9 laying around.

Hope this helps.

u/CivilC · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

If you want to test out colors and how they come out in general, you can use plastic spoons. It's the same as painting a kit albeit a bit curvy.

If you really need a kit to paint, the HG GM is one of the cheapest.

u/dcresistance · 2 pointsr/anime

Those are some good ones. When you step up to RG kits, a couple of my favorites are the RX-178 Mk II Titans Ver and the Astray Red Frame. I've pretty much gone 1/100 scale and up for Gunpla because the parts for HG and RG kits kill my fingers with how tiny they are.

Bandai's non-Gundam kits are great too, especially their Star Wars ones.

u/Chaguman · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

1: In this kit, there is no water slide decals just regular stickers, so you do not have to worry about applying those. (P.S. When applying the stickers for the piping, they kept coming off, so I used a weak glue, you could also use a gold paint or sharpie).

2: I nipped all the nubs, then sliced off the excess with an exact-o knife, then sanded with 500 grit, then 1000.
The white marks are probably stress marks from when you cut the pieces from the runners. So just use sharp nippers and be gentle with cutting and you should avoid the white marks.

But im no expert, this is my first kit haha.

u/Lowfat_cheese · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

All Gunpla kits come in coloured plastic so you don't have to paint them. Any paint or other details are purely optional.

As for kits to start with, there's a kit just for beginners. Any other high grade kits are generally good to start with but I'd personally recommend Iron Blooded Orphans series kits since they're pretty cheap and have great articulation.

As for how to get different finishes this webpage should lay it out pretty clearly

u/Sether2121 · 2 pointsr/Gundam

The HG Rx-78-2 Revive is a great solid kit. Fairly cheap and iconic too. In general Hg kits are sold individually, but sometimes you can find two-in-ones, like this but the kits are fairly old and you’d be better off buying the newer versions.

For tools you can go down to a hobby shop and grab some spruce cutters and a hobby knife. Maybe some sandpaper if you want to go more in depth, but I wouldn’t worry too much about your first kit. Shouldn’t run you more than $15.

u/wmnoe · 2 pointsr/Gundam

I've built two different Real Grade models and they are very difficult for experienced builders let alone amateurs. I would NOT get a "REAL GRADE" kit. Go for a HGUC (High Grade Universal Century) kit. Like this one:

http://www.amazon.ca/Gunpla-Starter-Gundam-Model-japan/dp/B003KX5OWS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418329233&sr=8-1&keywords=hguc+gundam

Actually has two mobile suits (robots) in one kit, a bad guy and a good guy.

u/Effion · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

For the most part, the 1/100 MG kits will have bigger pieces (and more of them), so you might enjoy them more. There are also non graded 1/100 kits out there (they're a lot more like a big HG than an MG) that you might enjoy, tho some of those kits can have weird proportions and lack detail, ex: 1/100 Aile Strike vs MG Aile Strike RM

If you are looking at kits, here are two versions of the original Gundam:

https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-Gundam-RX-78-2-Action/dp/B00CRSXK4Q/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=rx-78-2+gundam&qid=1575079694&sprefix=rx-78-2&sr=8-6

https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-RX-78-2-Gundam-Real-Grade/dp/B003KX5OXW/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=rx-78-2+gundam&qid=1575079764&sprefix=rx-78-2&sr=8-2

The MG is larger and more complex, the HG is smaller. Both are good, detailed kits! And those are just the Gundam itself - there are lots of other kits from the original series, too! For instance, the Zaku I And Zaku II, Gouf, Gelgoog, GM, and more. If you want some more suggestions, you might try the r/gunpla subreddit, too.

Edit: You could also just look for kits labeled HGUC - that means High Grade Universal Century. High Grade is a type of model, Universal Century is sort of the “main” Gundam series - so, the original series and its sequels.

Other easy (and cheap) kits I'd recommend:
HGUC RX-78-2 ($11)
HG Gusion ($13)
HG Graze Kai ($11)

I'd start with those, and based on the suggested products, just go from there! Really, I just like to buy kits based on what I think looks coolest. The HG kits are all pretty beginner-friendly, so it's really up to you!! Hope this helps!! And if you haven't already, subscribe to r/gunpla. All around 15 bucks and with amazon prime 2 day free shipping.but if you don't have prime you'll probably end up paying around 20 or more. for me, Prime more than pays for itself. But I buy quite a bit of stuff on amazon.

the days of 10 dollar gundam kits is pretty much over. those old kits like that hygog are getting harder to come by so prices can actually get inflated on them IF you can find them. But honestly that kit probably isn't great anyway. its over 20 years old. Bandai has made so many improvements in that time. the average cost of a HG these days is around $23. with inflation thats not much more than the old kits and you get a lot higher quality.

they are still making some cheap cheap cheap kits today. like the first grade kits and advance grade kits. But they feature almost no flexibility and not so great detail. So if those things are important to you, save up a little longer and get an HGUC or one of the HGs from one of the newer series.

u/Woraug · 1 pointr/Gunpla

I've been looking into buying one or the other for a while now. The kit OP built (this one) Seems to have better color separation and better overall detail. The Kotobukiya on the other hand, seems to have much better fine detail (read: needs paint), and much better articulation. Namely in the knees and elbows.

From what I've gathered, if you're willing to put the work into it, you'll probably get a better overall result from the Kotobukiya.

Again, I don't own either, this is just what I've gathered from reading about both.

u/ClericKnight · 1 pointr/fireemblemcasual

Okay,RG #07 Gundam MK II Titans is what it says on the box! And it looks really neat and that's all I know about it! I'm not familiar with Gundam but I got a little one like 9 years ago that I really liked building, so when I was at Otakon the other weekend I decided to indulge in another, nicer one! Spent like 20 minutes at the Gundam table picking something that looked cool, and I'm definitely satisfied with it. So far I have built: leg bones.

What YOU would like:
Dr. Who PJs!

I own both 11 & 10's PJ set, and I love it. They are fun, cozy, and also quite fashionable. In the $25-$30 range, it's not too expensive, considering it's a set. Hope you enjoy it.

As for me, a geeky toy like this gundam would be fun to build :)

u/FLOCKA · 1 pointr/Gunpla

dude. you need to try at least one real grade. I used to be exclusively MG like you, but my experiences with the RG Zaku and Strike totally changed my mind.

Plus if you enjoy placing decals and working with tweezers, then it is pure heaven. If you decide to get one, I'd recommend avoiding the "winged" kits since they are just a hair more frustrating -- for example, my strike freedom is definitely harder to pose than the Aile strike.

Amazon sells RG's for awesome prices. If you have amazon prime, you can get an RG zaku for $33.51 or an RX-178 for $32.37

u/Zeliss · 1 pointr/Gunpla

You should get the Ez8, it's a really similar kit, and quite nice too.

u/Peezy_leaves · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Yeah its an awesome build, just don't mind the extra decals those are from other kit this one comes with only 2 stickers one for the eye and a shitty foil zeon emblem. Here is the Stock kit

I believe I have finally decided on my first Gunpla, the HG Age II Magnum and want to make sure the items I have added to my Amazon cart are ideal or not for a beginner/future use for HG and MG kits. The list is as follows:

  • Gundam Model Builder's Cutting Mat 12"x9"
  • Findfly 9Pcs Gundam Model Tool Kit
  • Gundam Marker Value Set
  • Mr. Super Clear Flat Spray
  • Bamboo Skewers
  • Alligator Clips
  • ScotchBlue Painter's Tape
  • Styrofoam Blocks

I know that this sub has a list of tools and tutorials, but because I'm trying to budget, I was thinking no more than $100 would be ideal for me to start with. Since I'm beginning with HG models, I don't think I need a full set of Gundam markers, but if it's needed/required/highly suggested, I might pick them up as well.

So I have read and seen that top coating and panel lining are essential for MG models to make them pop. Are they just as essential for HG model kits? Looking at pictures of the Age II Magnum I'm planning on getting from Amazon, it doesn't seem to have a lot of indents for panel lining. Of course, I could be wrong and be blind as a bat. If I don't do any sort of panel lining, is it still a good idea to add a top coat regardless?

Also, how soon can one get into MG kits? I was originally going to jump straight into either the MG GM Sniper II or the RX-78-2 Ver 3.0 but after doing some research over the past few days, I've decided I'll be doing a few HG's to begin with as I haven't built model kits since I was like 7 or 8 with my dad. I'm thinking after the Age II Magnum, I was thinking about getting either the HG Double O Diver or the HG 00 Shia Qan[T]. Maybe after I complete the 3 HG's I've listed, is it possible to jump to the the GM Sniper II?

    TL;DR:

  • Are the items I have listed a good starting point?

  • Is a full set of Gundam Markers a necessity for HG/beginners?

  • Are panel lining and top coatings important for HG model kits?

  • Is it okay to use top coat on an HG model if no panel lining is used?

  • Edit Do people usually top coat the accessories? I can't seem to find any info on that.

  • What color panel lining pens do people normally use based on different parts of Gunpla's?

  • What level of skill should one be at before getting into MG model kits?

u/weableandbob · 1 pointr/Gunpla

The RX-78-2 Revive and the Barbatos Lupus are commonly recommended since they're solid kits while being ~$10. Pretty much any high grade you like the look of should be fine, though.

Real grades are about as complex as master grades, so you wouldn't get much benefit grabbing one of those first.

u/Ranelpia · 1 pointr/Gunpla

I just don't know what to make of Gundams on Amazon. On the one hand, I could get the RG Mk II Titan for $30 with longer (but free) shipping, but on the other hand, the seller name is 'canada post office is delayed extra 15-30days'. But on the other, other hand, it's got 826 ratings over the last 12 months, most of them very positive.

u/Rabbi_Rustko · 1 pointr/Gunpla

New to Gunpla but have a lot of experience with cars and planes. I was looking at trying my hand at this Kit is there anything I need to know beforehand or is this to complex? I will give it my all but wont be upset if I make a mistake. Any suggestions for a newbie. I don't mind doing little kits do get used to gunpla or trying my hand at more difficult ones.

u/TarmacFFS · 1 pointr/Gunpla

My first solo kit was the MG blue frame astray and while most would say that's a silly kit to start with, it taught a lot of lessons very quickly. If you're patient and you pay attention to the directions, I personally think the frame astrays are good trial-by-fire kits.

I just asked my son which kit he would give someone to start with (he has built many dozens) and he said if you like the look of it, the 1/100 Barbatos Lupus Rex is a simple build and fun to paint and panel line.

Depending on what you like the look of, the HG Gusion is stupid cheap or the HG Sinanju would be good starter kits as well. The RG Sinanju has a reputation for being a bit of a grenade and I'd stay away from it.

Finally, the 1/100 Bawoo is another cool kit I think would make a great starter kit.

u/the_elkk · 1 pointr/Gunpla

I have no idea about Gundam UNICORN.
All I can find is this one:

Is this the same? I see only red panels on there. I would like it to be solid white like your's.

u/GhandiJi · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Like the other guy said, the kit is the Gunpla starter set 2 of the HG78 G30th. I wanted something relatively easy/inexpensive and it came with a gundam marker and extra booklet. If you wanna check it out, it got it here.

You can buy this kit on Amazon!

u/BlasterManX · 1 pointr/Gunpla

I dunno if you have Amazon prime or the means to buy it online, but that GM Sniper II is [$33.69 on Amazon right now.]
On the topic of whether or not you should get it, I'd heartily recommend it. It's simplistic for an MG but still has that same quality you expect. I've had issues with the leg joints being loose, but that may just be me.

u/Sk00zle · 1 pointr/dbz

Currently, there isn't one. I assume its just a base made for advertising purposes. The only accessories for figure-rise kits at the moment are the [yellow] (https://www.amazon.com/Bandai-Hobby-Figure-Rise-Effect-Building/dp/B01LEQKZ2Q) and blue auras.

1/100

Personally was thinking of getting the 1/144 along with some of the tools i am going to order as i am planning to get into Gunpla at the start of next month when my other orders arrive.

u/ThanksForTheHeadsUp · 1 pointr/Gunpla

So these will be the first models i will buy. The idea here is that if i finish building these, and maybe modifying them some if i feel confident in my skills at that point i will move on to more advance models and tools! Well thats the plan anyways.

Just grab a Barbatos and a Graze. I think I'm going to start another graze now myself =P

Or if you want to apreciate how far bandai has come with the kits, grab a Barbatos and The old HGUC Gun Cannon or RGM-79 kit

u/OhUmHmm · 1 pointr/Gundam

There have been some great DVD / Blu-Ray releases by RightStuf in NA. I might recommend those because once they are out of print, it may be a long time before someone releases them again. There is also the absolutely superb "Mobile Suit Gundam: Origin" graphic novels on amazon for very reasonable prices.

If you are dead set on a model, I would recommend getting either a Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin HG Model or an RG model. But it's difficult to say which one to get, because which suit to get varies a lot from person to person.

However, one alternative option would be: https://www.amazon.com/Gundam-RB-79-Ball-Ver-Scale/dp/B0006TNAIO

If you reply to this comment I can give you more suggestions.

u/xavierc520 · 1 pointr/metalgearsolid

Not too sure about WWII model kits, I've seen some of the beginner ones at michaels that seem easy enough.

My recommendation is that if you're looking for simple, do some googling for some models that appeal to you, but keep a look out for part count, paint/glue not needed, etc.

If you're looking to start, no glue/no paint snap kits are the way to go.

Gundam Models range from relatively easy to just a long list of complex parts. They all come with fairly clear instructions though.

BANDAI produces good ones, but definitely research before purchasing as sometimes, an entire line still in production may have problems like some size mismatching or parts being too thin and breaking when assembling, but that is a given to happen to any company producing models in mass production.

If you're looking for something elementary-middle school grade with minimal painting/effort

This is a good place to start:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speed-Racer-Mach-V-Polar-Lights-Model-Kit-6807-/311529870274?hash=item4888a093c2:g:j9gAAOSwoydWnmMo

You don't technically need paint unless you want to add the red for the seats/interior for anime correctness.

You might need super glue for some parts just to keep them in place while assembling but its really not a big deal.

It comes with screws (I think, i only built one and I fudged the decals and paint job so I just finished it and tada in the box xD), parts, and the decals.

From what I could tell, this one on forum and review talk is also fairly simple:

I started building gunpla early this year and have done about 30 kits, so no expert but I have some experience to stand on. That being said, the HGUC RX-78-2 Revive was my first kit and I'd recommend that to anyone. The kit is forgiving (white doesn't show nub-marks/stress marks as much as dark colors), it doesn't require too much from the builder, and the end result is very stable and articulate. It's what cemented my new hobby. And it's relatively cheap at ~$14 US.

For a lengthier and more complicated build (though I would argue not really more difficult) I'd suggest the RG Gundam Mark II. Again, the kit succeeds in being stable, articulate, and the build progresses rather seamlessly. It also looks really awesome when completed.

There are a few other builds that for me stand out as being just very satisfying-- the HG Gerbera Tetra, the RG Char's Z'Gok- but the two I've singled out above are superlative in my opinion.

Nice, I just finished building the same one

> XXXG-01W Wing Gundam EW (RG)

I just need to apply the dacals. The only issue I has are:

  • The gun is very fragile, almost snapped one side in half, when removing it from the sheet. :'(
  • The pauldrons barely hold on to the shoulders.
  • The gun is a bit heavy, and I had to switch from the articulating hand; back to manual griping hand.

I think my next one will be the PG: RX-0 Unicorn Gundam with an LED Unit. The cost is ~$328 — so it's a bit pricey, but I really enjoyed the series.
