There's a whole series of sets similar to that - Lego Architecture (with Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water as a personal favorite).

WalMart has these for $30 on Black Friday. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00BMKL5WY 1600 pieces.

Wow, it's almost a crime to not buy it now.

I still prefer the colors of Poe's X-Wing but this is truly tempting

In case it sells out or people don't have Prime or whatever, it's also available for the same price on Target.

Aquadoodle pads, Etch-a-sketch, Magnadoodle, Car bingo. You can make car bingo using magnets glued to dollar store checkers markers. In fact, you can later make the checker board attach to a cookie sheet too for when they're older.

You can also fill a pencil box, bag or even zip lock, with Lego and give them a cheap cookie sheet from the dollar store to play on. This works even better if you get either the Lego tape (they sell it at WalMart too but not sure of the name) or hot glue a Lego Baseplate to the cookie sheet.

I also have a portable DVD player and my kid would play on his Nintendo DS, but now his phone or Kindle.

Also make sure to do 'seat exercises.' It helps with the pent up energy. Ask them to put their hands in the air then wiggle them around. Just modify the Hokey Pokey song for car use. Head, shoulders, knees and toes works in the car.

I would basically pack a backpack that had healthy snacks and some drinks, toys, gaming device, games...they also got to help me add a couple things too it of their choosing. Put that in the back seat with their blankie and pillow.

I'd also add a ziplock bag within easy reach for car sickness and/or garbage.

FYI, The AT-AT is on sale at Amazon

u/Svenislav · 3 pointsr/CatAdvice

Hey mate we’ve all been there. Take care of yourself first, then as for the cat, I’d say he probably wanted the bug. How old is he? Is he a breed cat?

If you have smooth floors you can buy him some of these, batteries can be expensive but I use them on a daily basis and have discovered that the cheap batteries you can find on amazon last just as long as the branded expensive ones.

I think I will stick to the other stores that have deals that day. THe last time I went to walmart I saw 2 women fighting over a doll. I mean come on its a damn toy. This probably happens in other places but I just think Walmart is the most popular since it has locations everywhere. That also means it will have more traffic then say Kmart.

It should also be noted that neither product has the greatest sales rank on Amazon. they are in the 300000 range which isn't very good

Years ago when I was a kid my brother and I had a benchmark: we never bought a set above $0.10/pc unless it was really, really cool. Licensed stuff is usually at a worse price but that benchmark still holds today and makes the Force Awakens AT-ST Walker one of the best Star Wars sets out right now.

u/LoganNolag · 2 pointsr/lego

For $150 I would get one of the modular buildings. My favorite currently available one is the Grand Emporium (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Grand-Emporium-10211) but the Fire Brigade (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fire-Brigade-10197) is the oldest one so it might be a good idea to pick one up before it is discontinued.

If you're into Star Wars the Ultimate Collectors Series B-Wing is on sale right now for about $150 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Dailego-B-Wing-Fighter-10227/dp/B009OJGLR4/ref=sr_1_10?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1371520022&sr=1-10&keywords=lego)

Another one of my favorites is the Kingdoms Joust set (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kingdoms-Joust-10223). It goes really well with the Medieval Market Village which is unfortunately discontinued but you can still get it for about $150. (http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Castle-Medieval-Market-Village/dp/B001USHRCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371520318&sr=8-1&keywords=medieval+market+village) $150 is almost twice the original MSRP but it is still a good value as you get around 1600 pieces.

If you are into architecture you might want to consider one of the larger Architecture sets such as Imperial Hotel (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Imperial-Hotel-21017) or Fallingwater (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fallingwater-21005). I don't have either one of these but I do have the Robie House (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Robie-House-21010) which was a thoroughly enjoyable build.

There are also some fun train sets for less than $150 like the Horizon Express (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Horizon-Express-10233) and the Passenger Train (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Passenger-Train-7938). The Horizon Express is a very detailed model but it has no track or train motors. The Passenger Train is a much simpler build but it has track and a motor so it is more like a traditional model train set. Of course you can get a motor and track for the horizon express but you will have to buy those separately.

Hope this helps.

They still have some at stores (I bought one at Barnes & Noble for my son at xmas) and overpriced on Amazon.

u/stoopidquestions · 2 pointsr/pics

Old? Like these?

u/Timzor · 2 pointsr/pics

That simply isnt true, there are heaps of sets of generic peices.

Heres one http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Bricks-10662-Creative-Bucket/dp/B00AWBLS80/ref=dp_ob_title_toy

And this one here http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Bricks-More-Brick-4626/dp/B005VPRDBS/ref=sr_1_638?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1416663306&sr=1-638

As well as a huge selection of pre designed sets made entirely of generic peices. Now granted the selection is not huge but people are happier buying the designed sets and mixing and matching those bricks, and besides, you can always just buy a few sets and throw away the boxes/instructions if you're that concerned about your childs lack of imagination.

u/eqleriq · 2 pointsr/tifu

I'll need to see a paper of your experiment's results.

Rigid plastics clearly add that level of risk that they snap off, perhaps that is enjoyable.

How did you find the bottleneck of a beer bottle? Is that better than a Wii-mote?

Personally I found the washing of the Wii-mote to be a hassle, though wrapping it in plastic wrap allowed me to smother my face in it afterwards.

Also, there are these toys called hexbug nano that come in a sort of test tube. The interesting thing about it is that the toys themselves are small vibrating motors that skip around on a surface. But what you can do is turn them all on, then put all of them from the 5-pak into one of the tubes and it feels like a tiny asian pianist practicing on the walls of your turd palace.

But beware, make sure your anal insertion pliers have a good grip on the edge of the tube or that will be a difficult trip to the ER.

TLDR: your story makes no sense because you wouldn't bother fishing the thing in your asshole out, the one thing in your story that's already hidden and you remove it adding it to the list of "shitty things daddy can see" rather than hide more? herp derp, obviously go in your room or the bathroom and lock/close the door after ending the porn and grabbing the towel. But sure, what you did is totally real

u/strawberrynight · 2 pointsr/santashelpers

For your dad, these have been on sale at Costco (Mississauga, ON) for some time now. I was at Costco today and there were still a few left, so you could check your local Costco. It's also an alarm clock so there's a practical element to it. You could also go to the lego store at Southgate Centre and see what they have there.

My son is getting a big bucket of LEGOs for Christmas: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VPRDBS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3A75OQHMPSD3E&coliid=I37OLSCHT22HUG or http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ultimate-Building-Set-Pieces/dp/B000NO9GT4/ref=pd_sim_t_6

It's going to be a long lasting toy that helps him learn and be creative, and most importantly they aren't exhaustible like art supplies are.

As someone who grew up poor with two brothers, I can definitely say that Christmas can be done better and more cheaply with one great group gift, than with a bunch of smaller gifts for each child. Also, Goodwill tends to have $1 toys and presents right around the holidays. It's not new, but IMO parents do their children a disservice by teaching them to expect new things.

Hi XaviXavi, I've ordered something for your son. I read through some of your recent posts and I saw you say in one of them that your son loves all things Lego, and so I wanted to gift him the Lego Star Wars item on your wishlist.

However, the Lego X-Wing Resistence Fighter 75125 on his list was out of stock and the price had been hiked up -- so I took a chance and ordered this LEGO Resistance X-Wing Fighter 75149 instead. I thought about PMing you, but these sets are selling out/increasing in price all the time (and I figured he probably doesn't have any X-wing fighters if you've got one on his list) and so I just went ahead and ordered it.

I apologize if he already has this X-wing, however he sounds very creative and could probably create the smaller one out of this set. :)

If you can let me know when you get it, that would be great!

Merry Christmas to you and your awesome family!

LEGO Star Wars Resistance X-Wing Fighter 75149 will be shipped to XaviXavi by Amazon.com.

Yes I got it from This Store

I bought a new base plate from -=Here=- which is a 48X48 base, I figured I would just buy one large one as it didn't need to be split to open the Firehouse like the Haunted House did. If I had problems I could just cut it to what I needed or use the space for more Minifigs, trees, whatever.

Hope this helps!

bricklink.com is good for individual parts, but somewhat hard to use. eBay is easier to use, but usually more expensive. Amazon is good for new-in-box stuff and sometimes for parts as well.

They don't make many sets that come with more than five or so miniatures, but there's always this:

I'm not quite old enough to have toys from the early '70s, but I do still have action figures from the late '80s and they've held up just fine; I think a lot of it has to do with how well they're taken care of; I mean when you get down to it they're just plastic and that shit lasts for eons.

And when you compare the cost of a bucket of assorted LEGO^® bricks ($49 for 704 pieces) to an equivalent Mega Bloks product ($34 for 750 pieces) you can pretty easily call them overpriced; in my experience there is no real difference between the two products except the brand stamp on the bricks and the figures, neither of which has an effect on the quality of the toy.

Jackson Galaxy on how to play with your cat.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR0StLh6uKE

Grab a 'da bird' toy, I've never known an active adolescent cat to be able to resist it and play with it.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=da+bird&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

The thing about toys is that they need to be rotated so also grab something like a laser light, just make sure you give it a treat after or your kitty will become frustrated never being able to catch it.

There are also hex bugs, cats love them, they need to be used on wood or lino floors, they run on batteries in random patterns. Just watch that they don't get lost under heavy furniture.

I have been using Lego in my D&D games for over a decade now. For the last two years, I have been running a weekly D&D game where the enemies and terrain are always Lego. Here are my tips:

The way to make it work is to treat your Lego creations like dungeon tiles, rather than trying to build a whole setting as a single Lego build. Make Lego walls and dungeon dressing. You can then rearrange them on the fly as needed. I have boxes and boxes of Lego terrain, enemies, and dungeon parts that can be easily pulled out and combined for whatever the adventure of the week is.

It helps to use a non-Lego grid in addition to the Lego creations. Lego work well with actual dungeon tiles or battlemats. I use a tablecloth that has a 1-inch grid, and lay out the Lego things on that tablecloth to form a map.

Some more ideas:

During character creation, give the players access to a pile of Lego people, weapons, and accessories. Most players will love customizing a mini to match their character. They may even make a fun Lego person first, and then make their character to match. This is one of the best parts of using Legos in a D&D game.

Save the really nice-looking Lego weapons and accessories for use as treasure. Give them to enemies, and after the players fight the enemies, they can loot the flaming swords, golden armor, etc. from the fallen enemy minifigs and put them on their character minifigs.

Allow and encourage called shots on your Lego monsters. When they remove a limb, take it off the Lego model. Most players will love reducing horrible monsters to piles of disconnected Lego pieces.

Allow and encourage players to destroy, rearrange, or otherwise interact with the Lego terrain. My players have handled many combat encounters by clever use of Lego terrain, and it makes for great stories.

Set Recommendations:

The Fairytale and Historic Minifigures Set is a cheap way of stocking up on lots of Lego people suitable for a D&D game. You even get some dungeon dressing and terrain as a bonus.

Mixels are great for making all kinds of monsters. Lego also has a nice dragon for only $15.

The Treehouse and Mountain Hut are nice sets for making villages and outdoor terrain.

You can use Bionicle to cheaply and easily make good giants and colossal enemies.

Not with Lego, although you can find some good collections on ebay.

If I needed lots of pieces, I would get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ultimate-Building-Set-Pieces/dp/B000NO9GT4 or http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Bricks-More-Brick-4626/dp/B005VPRDBS/ (or anything from the "bricks & more" line http://creative.lego.com/en-us/products/10681.aspx )...

Although be sure to do the legwork, some of these go on sale for exorbitant prices. That first one shouldn't be $70 even in a million years.

If you are looking to get sets 'for adults', there is a great collection of them here: http://brickset.com/sets/list-9150 and that whole site has a lot more.

Personally, anything 'cuusoo' is going to be awesome. They are like the reddit of lego set creation: http://lego.cuusoo.com/
