Morning Edit: This comment got a lot more attention than I anticipated it would before I went to bed last night. My previous response was pretty personal, and now that I've had messages from people who I know asking me about it, I've decided to take it down.

The TL:DR of what I said is that I've worked alongside my parents on this business since it's inception. Up until recently, I did that work for free in the hopes that the business would eventually grow to the size that I would be able to work making games full-time. Now that that has happened I am very grateful.

Here is a link to the game for those asking for it. The Bears and The Bees

Response after reading the edit to the comment above: No hard feelings.

u/sunnydaisy · 16 pointsr/EDH

I have found [[Mayael the Anima]] to be a commander that does very well on a budget and is also really easy to continue to revamp and upgrade as you please. My list is currently TCG price around $212, but by taking out the Eldrazi (Ulamog and It That Betrays) and replacing them with just about any 5/x creature you have laying around, you're down to ~$150. There are tons of lists and primers for her, and she can be really fun to pilot since you hardly ever get the same creature twice. If she's in the playstyle you like, I'd definitely have to recommend it.

You can get the basic shell in the Naya C13 precon, which is $16 from this seller on amazon.

u/cruzweb · 10 pointsr/blunderyears

Indeed, I forgot it was BK. Apparently they made 6 of these different gold cards. https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Gold-Plated-Burger-Cards/dp/B0013HP1JE

Most of your prices are way too high. They're still used games, you can't sell them at new prices.

Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of Ashardalon

  • Your price - $40

  • Amazon - $41

Chronicle of the Godslayer - Storm of Souls -
Rise of Vigil - Immortal Heroes

  • Your price - $20/$20/$20/$15
  • Amazon - $29/$30/$30/$22

    Munchkin

  • Your price - $9
  • Amazon - $17

    Munchkin Impossible

  • Your price - $9
  • Amazon - $24

    Battlestar Galactica

  • Your price - $25
  • Amazon - $37

    Dungeon Twister

  • Your price - $40
  • Amazon - A lot

I'm getting tired of this so I'm going to skip ones that are good deals...

    Carcassonne: The Catapult

  • Your price - $10
  • Amazon - $15

    Van Helsing

  • Your price - $20
  • Amazon - $19

    Zombie Fluxx

  • Your price - $9
  • Amazon - $12

    Dresden Files

  • Your price - $30/$30
  • Amazon - $37/$28

There are a few games that would be good deals, but most of them need to be re-priced. To make it worth people's time to buy from you then you should really price $20 under Amazon (for bigger games) if you want them to pay shipping. Then it'll even out to only $10-ish less than Amazon for them.

Yea man, most decks run at least two copies of it. Except greninja, which runs one i think.

if you wanna pull one yourself you should get a [guardians rising elite trainer box] (https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Moon-Guardians-Rising-Elite-Trainer/dp/B06X9DCWR5/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511975830&sr=8-1&keywords=guardians+rising), or check out sites like [troll and toad] (https://www.trollandtoad.com/) or [tcgplayer] (https://www.tcgplayer.com/) :]

Battle Arena Deck are good options, as they have strategies and actually some viable cards. Gives you a base to start with and can be upgraded from there. Unfortunately the newest iteration of them was just canceled, but you should still be able to find the Keldo vs Rayquaza or Black vs White Kyurem in stores and online.

Hey, keep in mind that old commander decks from 2013 and 2014 are super cheap right now. Last year's Commander had mono-colored planeswalker commanders, and the year before that had cool 3-color commanders. Linkage:

If you bought this "Deck Builder set": https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Builders-Toolkit-Booster/dp/B07PDJ8YJM/ref=sr_1_4?

You could buy 6169 sets for $120k. That's 771,125 cards. Not bad!

u/Goblin_Axeman · 5 pointsr/pkmntcg

If you're thinking about picking up some packs, maybe an Elite Trainer Box. You get some packs (eight), some sleeves (not amazing, but effective), dice, the acrylic markers, and a few dice for damage counters. It's cheaper than buying packs individually (especially at big box stores), and there's some nice goodies included. I've picked up a couple of them to give my little one a pack from it as a treat for doing some small chore or some such.

u/IWasTheFirstKlund · 5 pointsr/boardgames

Yes, and -- surprise, surprise! -- people were offended by how sexist it is. Look at the Amazon 1-star reviews for the game to see people who have absolutely no self-awareness.

Sorry for the messy link, I'm on mobile rn. You can change the language to English by the search bar.
You need to make a new account (since in different region) and shipping (at least for me in the U.S.) takes around 3-6 business days.

u/AcademyRuins · 4 pointsr/ModernMagic

Based upon what you mentioned in your post, I think a Deckbuilder's Toolkit or two makes more sense for what you're looking for. You get plenty of lands, lots of commons and uncommons, as well as a few packs.

Even better, you could always go to your local game store and ask for intro decks. They hand them out for free and they're great for beginners.

u/PhantomGenocide · 4 pointsr/pokemon

For anyone that wants to buy one, they are available here for about $6.

Anomia!

There's even a great card game about this! Anomia

I just bought this one off of Amazon. It's really nice--sort of like a mousepad sort of material. I play with my boyfriend so we just got the two-player mat rather than getting two individual ones.

$35 Talrand (U) Plays a bunch of cantrips and counters to get an army of 2/2 drakes and turns them sideways to win. Heavy counterspell may draw some hate at tables.

$50 Brion (UR) Casts fat creatures, and flings them with its commander. Has a few combo wincons.

$56 Isamaru, Hound of Konda (W) One drop commander, pumps him up with a ton of equipment to get 21 commander damage out fast.[Voltron]

I also found a blog with a bunch of budget decks, I'll dump links to all the lists for people searching this to get into the format for cheap.

$38 Niv-Mizzet (U) Draws a ton of cards to deal damage, subthemes are spell copying and spell recursion. Can go infinite with the addition of cards like [[Curiosity]] and [[Ophidian Eye]]

$27 Azami (U) Draw cards, counter spells, make flashy timmy plays. Has cool wincons including [[Diviner's Wand]].

$31 Bruna (UW) Another voltron deck, this one uses Auras to pump up the commander instead, and the commander's ability to cheat them on from the hand and graveyard.

$30 Pharika (BG) Reanimator with lots of ETB effects. Commander can create 1/1 deathtouch tokens for 2 mana at instant speed.

$36 Scion of the Ur-Dragon (Five-Color) Dragon tribal with some reanimator. Infinite combos off [[Hellkite Charger]] + [[Bear Umbra]] and[[Niv-Mizzet, The Firemind]] + [[Ophidian Eye]]

$36 Kamahl (G) Good old mono G battlecruiser. Contains tons of ramp, tokens, and Timmy spells. Commander has [[Overrun]] as an activated ability.

$38 Sharuum (BUW) Artifact reanimator with goodstuff from all three colours. Uses [[Shimmer Myr]] to play most of its deck at instant speed.

I'd also like to give an honorable mention to the Commander pre-constructed decks, which can be had for $20 online, and the newest ones are at a $35 MSRP. They're all legal and playable out of the box, but I hear that the power level on some of the older ones is lacking a bit. I'd recommend the 2014 Commander decks as I have experience with them being competitive at local tables outside of the box. I would have the warning that they're all split down the middle into multiple subthemes to allow the list to be re-focused using the alternate commanders provided, and so they end up playing fairly differently than a deck that was built from the top to be more focused.

u/heylookitsdanica · 2 pointsr/JUSTNOMIL

Not EXACTLY the same, but close-ish!

u/chain_letter · 2 pointsr/DnD

For 5e, these cards are affordable and high quality, would recommend. I hope we get a deck for beasts because after formatting and printing and cutting and laminating, my own beast cards still wouldn't be as good.

As a DM, monster cards in general could be fantastic, instead of a mess of index tabs out of a book.

Apples to Apples, Dixit, Jungle Speed, Pictionary, Anomia, SET, Loaded Questions, and Jenga are a few that come to mind where the adults wouldn't necessarily have an advantage over the kids. Also Fluxx and We Didn't Playtest This are both hilarious card games that would be perfect for kids in that age range, but I have a blast playing them with other adults on a regular basis too; Spaceteam looks like another good one but I haven't personally played it. If you're looking for more involved strategy games, Ticket to Ride and Carcassone would be fine for that age, just require more of a learning curve. Cranium and Quelf are silly games that involve a variety of tasks (drawing, acting, singing, trivia, etc) and although they're supposedly aimed at adults, kids love them too (just skip cards that are too hard; or you could also consider the kids' versions of both games, Cranium Cadoo and Quelf Jr.). Uno (or Crazy Eights with a regular deck of cards) is always a classic, and you can always play charades or the category game!

edited to add: not sure about a good choose your own adventure story, but Mad Libs are always fun!

u/wolfkin · 2 pointsr/boardgames

I'm not saying screaming is required.. you didn't hear that from me.. i'm just saying if no one is screaming you're playing wrong.

C'est vague, mais dans les jeux de deck-building y en a sans doute plusieurs qui colleraient. Les deux qui me viennent en tête sont Thunderstone et le Seigneur des Anneaux, et après une recherche rapide je tombe aussi sur Ascension.

Any rookie player wanting to play any caster should invest in the spell cards for that class. Having your spells in front of you makes a huge difference.

I suggest Gloom

> In the Gloom card game, you assume control of the fate of an eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes. The goal of the game is sad, but simple: you want your characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. Play horrible mishaps like Pursued by Poodles or Mocked by Midgets on your own characters, while trying to cheer your opponents' characters with marriages and other happy occasions. Printed on transparent plastic cards, Gloom features an innovative design by Keith Baker. Multiple modifier cards can be played on top of the same character card; since the cards are transparent, elements from previously played modifier cards either show through or are obscured by those played above them. You'll immediately and easily know the worth of every character, no matter how many modifiers they have. You've got to see (through) this game to believe it! The second edition includes sturdy new packaging, rules fixes, timing icons, reminder cards, and more; plus it's fully compatible with the first edition game and supplements. It's sure to delight even the most despondent Gloom fan!

u/Zizro · 2 pointsr/yugioh

You do have another option besides theme decks. Pokémon has released Battle Arena decks in the past that are sold as a set of two (there was Darkrai & Mewtwo, Rayquaza & Keldeo, and Black Kyurem & White Kyurem). The Kyurem one can be bought off Amazon for $22 as of this writing (which is slightly cheaper than 2 theme decks, which would run around $25). The other 2 seem to cost more since they’ve been discontinued for a few years, but if you look around, you might find a good deal for them. These decks are roughly equal in power, and many of the cards in them are pretty strong, unlike something like the trainer kit where the cards are incredibly weak and never going to get used once you start working on making better decks.

https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-POK17BAEXSPDK-Pokémon-Battle-Kyurem/dp/B06XKC6J29/ref=sr_1_2?crid=10LK74BHRQY92&keywords=pokemon+battle+arena+deck&qid=1554993772&s=gateway&sprefix=pokemon+battle+arena%2Caps%2C165&sr=8-2

If you’re planning on eventually playing competitively, you may want to first see what kinds of events are run in your area. The Battle Arena decks are a couple of years old, and while they’re completely legal in Expanded (Pokémon’s version of the Modern format in MTG), almost none of the cards are legal in Standard (which is almost identical to MTG’s Standard format. Any of the newer theme decks are completely Standard-legal, but they will require more work to get to tournament-level decks.

u/GreatGonzo · 2 pointsr/boardgames
u/Yohnski · 2 pointsr/magicTCG

Unfortunately those are two of the more expensive decks from the two sets, and would cost you around $65 for the both of them. Assuming that you have Amazon Prime (for the free shipping), these are the combinations I would recommend that are under $50, just based on giving him the most color variety.

Evasive Maneuvers and either Sworn To Darkness or Built From Scratch

Power Hungry and either Peer Through Time or Sworn To Darkness

Nature of the Beast and Peer Through Time

My personal choice of those would be Evasive Maneuvers and Sworn To Darkness, but if you include a gift receipt then he can always exchange them if he needs to.

D&D Basics (Getting started)

The Absolute Basics

First you will want to grab either the Basic rules (Free), the Starter Set (Cheap), or the Players handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, and Probably Monster Manual

Then you need to have at least a few items

  • Dice (Phone apps will work if absolutely necessary, or these)
  • Paper & Pencil (for notes)
  • Character Sheet (In the free PDF or an app)

The starter set is nice because it does a bunch of the work for you, it has an easy to follow adventure, pre-made characters, Dice, and rules for the DM and players. And at half the cost of just the players handbook AND including an adventure, it is an incredible value.

Once you finish that then looking at at least a players handbook for the extra races, classes, backgrounds, and other things is a good deal. That should let you run free adventures people have put online.

The DM's guide will let you get deeper into rules and the right way to call them, break them, and make them.

The monster manual can be a great tool to make better encounters.

If you want to run a commercial adventure after the one's included in the starter set, "Tales from the Yawning Portal" includes the Sunless Citidel, considered by many to be an excellent adventure for those new to the game and just recently brought up from 3.5e into 5e

    Common Tools of the Trade

As you start running more complex adventures you are going to want to have a few tools to keep things moving, either as a player or as a DM.

    As a Player

The bare essentials every players should have are listed above, but most players agree having a few extras can make the game run really quick.

    Spell Cards

These cards have all the spells available for specific classes or from specific books on really well organized cards that make it easy to set aside your prepared spells and quickly reference all the core details.

Cleric, Arcane, Ranger, Druid, Bard, Paladin, Martial Powers and Races, Xanathars Guide to Everything

    Binders & Sheet Protectors

Keeping everything neat and organized can be a huge time saver and make it much easier for you to find what you need. Binders can be a great way to keep your notes and other materials organized. In addition many sheet protectors easily erase dry erase markers making it easy to keep track of spells and other changes without ruining character sheets with constant erasing.

    As a DM

DMs have their work cut out for them. But a few simple tools can make the game run smooth and leave everyone having that much more fun.

    Index Cards

A set of index cards can go a long way to speeding up the game. Players can put details on spells or magic items on them. You can prepare loot for the game ahead of time and hand it out allowing players to look over the gear as the game continues. You can also use them to hide portions of a battle map or commerical map to give the effect of fog of war.

    Game Mats

A game mat let's you make single maps by drawing on them with dry erase or wet erase markers. Many are made of vinyl and can last a long time. Normally they will have either 1" squares or hex shapes.

    Minitures

These things can be expensive, but giving your game that 3D upgrade and helping players better manage space in a game can be well worth it. You can use actual miniatures (Like those from Reaper), Create custom ones on Hero's Forge, or even just buy some cheap stand in tokens from Game Mash.

If you just need a cheap way to keep track of positions army men, bottle caps, colored game pieces, and even legos can all play the role.

No matter what you use, you can pick up colored rubber bands to mark status conditions or other information.

    Where Can I Play?

You can find tons of places to play D&D.

  • Get together a gaming group.
  • Find a Guild or club in your area. Meetup.com,
  • Most hobby shops and especially comic book and gaming shops offer games, usually Adventure League. WotC offers a tool to find stores here.
  • /r/lfg can be a great way to find others to play online with.
  • Play by Mail sites like RPoL allow you to play by forum post.

    Also:

Critical Role - Voice actors playing DnD, Matt Mercer (The DM) is an amazing Dungeon Master and shows how the game should be played.

Matthew Colville - Amazing videos on being a DM, must watch material for every DM. Even when your opinions differ he gives good reasons and great advice.

    Compendiums

These let you ciew all the free open rules (SRD & Basic Rules) for D&D 5e at no cost.

Roll20 Compendium - Has all the open rules for the game, so a good source for monsters, items, spells, etc.

DnDBeyond - A more official source for the content, plus you can buy all the materials released by WotC to use, and has a great character builder.

    Adventures & Maps

DMsGuild - Tons of free and paid adventures and other materials. The quality can be varying, but many are free and that can be great.

/r/dndmaps/ - What more can they say, D&D Maps.

Mike Schley Makes many of the maps for the D&D Adventures.

What are the ages of family members who will be playing? It’s not a board game but I would suggest checking out [Gloom](Gloom (2nd Edition) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1589781449/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ztKpDb1VPZXE4) .Good balance of strategy and silliness.

A strategic board game that could be fun if they have enjoyed Dominion is [7 Wonders](7 Wonders https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043KJW5M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VvKpDb0SG0DQ8).

Ascension was originally a board game. It's been adapted to iOS, Android and the PC. The PC version seems referenced by your link. This is a whole new version designed and developed for VR. I haven't played Dragonfront, but my take is Ascension is more designed to be a boardgame in VR w/ all the player/player interaction, vs Dragonfront being VR game with boardgame like design - kinda two different interpretations.

Buying some cards as a gift for a new Pokemon player - but I know zilch about Pokemon. I figured a Trainer Kit like this or this would be a good start. But I also want to add some additional cards so they can build upon this foundation.

What Battle or Theme Decks or other card bundle would build upon either of those trainer kits?

Thx

  1. I would love to have this yoga mat! Not only am I trying to get the motivation to go back to the gym for regular exercise, but my physical therapist has recommended yoga as a way to help strengthen my core muscles which should help with the pain I've had since my car accident almost a year ago. I've tried one class already and used the gym mat, but having this pretty one would give me warm fuzzies and help motivate me to go to class!

  2. I'm sure you've already heard about/played Cards Against Humanity, but it is one of my favorite games, along with Killer Bunnies.

(For your reference: How The Game Works

The basic strategy of the game is to keep as many bunnies alive as possible while eliminating your opponents’ bunnies. Of course all the other players are trying to do the same thing, which can get dreadfully vengeful, horribly nasty, hilariously messy, and just plain fun! While folks are trying to eliminate each other’s bunnies, each player is also trying to collect as many Carrots as possible. At the end of the game, one of the Carrots is revealed to be the Magic (or winning) Carrot and each game, the Magic Carrot will be different. Logically, the more Carrots that a player collects, the better his chances will be of winning the game. Collecting as many Carrots as possible is another basic strategy of the game.)

  3. A WOMAN'S MY WEEK AT THE GYM

    Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my hubby (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 19 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My hubby seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY: Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess - a thinly built female, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Belinda gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring! Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!

TUESDAY: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda's rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying. My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the stair monster. Why the f would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other s too.

THURSDAY: Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late; it took me that long to tie my shoes. Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. She sent another skinny cow to find me. Then, as punishment, she put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.

FRIDAY: I hate that cow Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it. Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me those stupid barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

SATURDAY: Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY: I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my hubby (the f**ing ss) will choose a gift for me that is fun, like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

    Thank you for the contest!

If you're doing G/W tokens, I highly recommend Trostani over Tolsimir. Tolsimir is a built in anthem, but Trostani's populate on a stick is useful, and the life you'll be gaining is not negligible. You can even just throw in both so he can swap generals.

Another fun G/W deck is Karametra. Any creature is better when it comes with a free Rampant Growth, and the extra mana she brings allows you to curve a little higher so he can throw around all kinds of goofy things. Most landfall cards are cheap, and you can get away with making the deck be mostly creatures and run Primal Surge as a win condition. Cards like Lurking Predators and Abundance are ridiculous in this sort of deck. The only real issue is that Avenger of Zendikar is amazing in this, but a bit expensive. However, you can order [Nature of the Beast] (http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Commander-Nature-Beast/dp/B00FUSBCCC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397739211&sr=8-1&keywords=nature+of+the+beast) for 20$ off Amazon and that gets you stuff like Avenger, Rampaging Baloths, Wrath of God, Tempt with Discovery, and some other useful stuff. Just cut the red stuff and use the rest of your budget to fill out the deck.

Or since the precon is all the colors he likes, just add cards to it with the rest of your budget, but I'd still say cut it down to two colors since decent three-color manabases are $$.

Killer bunnies

This game is seriously fun, but pretty complicated. There's a youtube tutorial that I can't link to from work that really helped.

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but what are your thoughts on the gold plated pokemon cards . I have all of these from when I was little and am thinking about getting rid of them soon. As a collector, do you think this is an item a collector would want for themselves? or are they too gimmicky?

So, if your monitor is on it will make it hard to fall asleep.

But you can play One Deck Dungeon (a card game) with only one player. In fact this is a really fun way to play it. It will also help you calm down for bed.

Not sure how you feel about Amazon but I've seen Root there lately at a decent price and have gone back and forth on it (don't know if it's right for my group) https://www.amazon.com/Leder-Games-LED01000-Root/dp/B07F454YF3/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=root+game&qid=1550590294&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I got news for you bud.

u/Caaethil · 1 pointr/yugioh

All they need is a deck each. Getting the Legendary Hero Decks for one and Legendary Dragon Decks for the other is fine. They'll have 3 each then so it's over the top but it's all good if they want to play with different decks. If you just want to get one each for now you can buy Structure Decks, but make sure they're both recent otherwise one will be a lot better than the other most likely. There are Starter Decks too but I don't recommend those.

Packs are fun, some will be better than other depending on which decks they want to upgrade with the cards. I can't help you there, someone else probably can.

Sleeves and mats are just for protection. The type of mat does kind of matter because the rules of the game have changed over time and sometimes it changes the layout of the board. This is the correct layout, get one which looks a bit like that (look out for the two extra square spaces in the middle, in between the main rows). You can also get the mats as two separate halves with different designs rather than as one huge one. Rubber mats are great, I think the gameboard is just like a solid plastic version.

I am wanting to start playing Magic, I have started to watch a few youtube videos, etc. to learn a bit before going to my first FNM.

I am curious though about getting my first deck. I have found this starter deck! on amazon and am curious if it is a good idea to start with something like this, or would I get destroyed/laughed off the table in my first games?

Any help, thoughts, suggestions, or opinions are appreciated!

We bought a game called Root a few weeks ago. It was originally a Kickstarter game but was game of the year last year. We are gonna finally break it out tonight!

If you can find it, the spellslinger set should be a good introductory product. The decks are meant as teaching/learning tools, so they are meant to be played exactly as the cards are ordered the first time you open them while playing along with the instructions: https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Spellslinger-Starter-Guides/dp/B07GZ1SDZW/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=magic+starter+set&qid=1550770267&s=gateway&sr=8-7

Hi, and welcome! For preconstructed deck there isnt much in terms of competativeness. I'll link an Amazon listing that is probably the closest you'll get. There isnt much for decks out right now, because rotation just happened, but this sylveon deck is pretty close to controll. Lastly I would each pick up one or two of the garchomp theme decks. You can mush them together and make something pretty decent for cheap. The garchomp deck wont be standard, but it's fairly powerful for friendly play. https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Battle-Arena-Kyurem-vs-Kyurem/dp/B06XKC6J29

They make trainer kits specifically for people to learn how to play. They come with a folded playmat and cardboard counters. The instructions even tell each player what to do, step by step. And the cards are numbered so you can put them in the correct order again after you play through once.

The kit only comes with 60 cards (30 for each player) but it’s a great way to learn the game. There are multiple versions of the trainer kits but here is one:

https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-TCG-Trainer-Sandslash-Ninetales/dp/B0797PZQDC/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=pokemon+trainer+kit&qid=1573476508&sprefix=pokemon+trainer&sr=8-3

If you know how to play and want to teach the kid how to play yourself without the trainer kit, then you can buy complete decks as well. Here is an example:

https://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Mewtwo-Pikachu-Evolutions-Decks/dp/B01M4JDD7T/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=pokemon+cards&qid=1573476640&sr=8-12

They sell these at all the grocery stores around my house (Kroger, Meijer, Walmart) as well as some drug stores (Walgreens).

And my daughter learned how to play when she was 7 years old and loves the game!

Edit: if you’re only going to buy regular packs to build decks then you’ll probably have to hunt down one of those energy card packs that just have a bunch of different energy cards (or maybe an Elite Trainer Box that comes with 8 packs as well as a bunch of energy cards and card sleeves). But you’ll find a lot more trainer cards in the themed decks. Those are hard to pull from regular packs.

Edit 2: also, DO NOT buy cards from a flea market. Most of the cards at the flea markets around here are counterfeit. They aren’t even copies of real cards sometimes. They just make their own cards that have generic holifoil designs and very overpowered moves. I’ve even seen cards with over 1000hp when the highest you can get is 250hp on a legit card.

u/waitreally · 1 pointr/boardgames

I can't agree enough about this. It's a very fun game to play, as as Brotodeau points out, it's a complicated as you make it. When we play it's a very intense game. But a lot of people just have fun with it. We don't see the point in having fun. We're out for blood. The starter kit is very simple to play, and it gets more complex (and fun) with each expansion.

u/TripleA_IT · 1 pointr/pokemon

Funny thing I found too: Amazon

u/JennyJoyO · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I love crochet!!!! I want Jessica to make me a hat!
You need to play Killer Bunnies!
It is super fun and there are tons of expansions that change the game as you go.
And I just made a Twinkie Chan scarf and it was so much fun.
You also need these so your poor little crocheting fingers don't get as sore.

u/MrBamHam · 1 pointr/pkmntcg

Yes, but they're extremely basic and made for a scripted game. This is the newest one: https://smile.amazon.com/Pokemon-TCG-Trainer-Sandslash-Ninetales/dp/B0797PZQDC

They're really bad though.

Game 1:

Midtown Madness 2 - PC:
Best game ever to roam around San Francisco. It might not be as unknown as I think it is, but no one I know has heard of it. It is one of the best car games out there, I played it every day religiously for around 5 years. It holds a special place in my heart. [LINK]

Game 2:

space.deadbeef - iOS:
surprisingly amazing bullet-hell shooter where you fly around in a spaceship, with missiles. For iOS only, no android. I think it's free. One of the best iOS games. [LINK]

Game 3:

Pit - Real Life:
Hah! I win most creative because this is a BOARD GAME! (muahahhaha). Anyway, it's a great card/board game where you collect crops in your hand and earn points. One of the loudest games I've ever played. Comes with a fun bell to ring. Based on the stock exchange. [LINK]

Game 4:

Save the Date - PC:
Hilarious dating simulator. Breaks the fourth wall very often. Most of you will not enjoy the way that you have to beat the game. [Link]

Game 5:

Zoombinis Logical Journey: I love this game. As a child, this was all you could play at school, alongside with Bugdom. It was great because it was learning, but also you were traversing through a giant world full of mystery. Great game, that taught you problem solving. [LINK]

If I win, I would really like to try Far Cry 3.

Thanks for this!

People can't name anything in high pressure situations even without a game show. This game anomia is based on that principle. You spend so much time worrying about when you'll match up with someone that when you read their category, something simple like 'Author', you can't think of anything.

u/UDie2day · 0 pointsr/pokemon

Yeah the price of $6.19 is pretty expensive.

u/ZoraSage · 0 pointsr/polyamory

It really depends on group dynamics and individual preferences.

I like games that make me think on my feet. Table top and video game RPGs, Mario Kart, Egyptian War, Magic the Gathering. These all require fast (mental or physical) reflexes and clever tactics. I like playing basketball for similar reasons as well.

My dad used to hate games, but I actually got him to play (and enjoy!) Gloom, Civ 5, and Zelda BotW, and now he likes games. It turns out he likes logic/math-based strategy, slow thinking, peaceful exploration, and independence or small groups.

Three of my favorite games to bring to parties where I don't know people are Saboteur, Code Names (I have the NSFW "after dark" version), and Spyfall. I like these games because they're relatively quick to learn (explain the rules in like five minutes and even if you don't understand newbies tend to catch on after a round or two, even if drunk), quick to set up (again, about five minutes), and have a nice balance of co-op play and competitive elements. Some people don't like the competition of games and like collaborating. Some people like lying and being the secret bad guy or taunting the other team. These games allow those kinds of people to shine.

I have a stack of other games that I'd bring for different occasions/people as well. Scrabble for methodical-thinking word nerds. Hanakimoji for an intimate (and kinda sexy/competitive, you're trying to win the favor of geishas and steal them from each other) two-player game. Betrayal at Baldur's Gate, Coup, and Bang! The Dice Game for a more complex, focused group of people who still want co-op/competitive play for a larger group as above, but maybe are more into games and rules and tolerate setup time.

Hi!! So I preordered the starter decks from ToyWiz! But the galactic box I got for a really good price here:

http://www.potomacdist.com/dragon-ball-super-tcg-booster-boxes/

It's a lot less then other places. And if you want the starter deck now amazon has them here:

Dragon Ball Z The Awakening Super TCG Starter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWQJ23L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0QFJzb2ZBB7A7

Also check local comic book shops! I went to mine and they had some starter decks as well! Good luck!

Here's a step by step how to get started.

  1. Have parents that have already been developing games for 8 years.

  2. Go work for them.

    source

Archive in case he deletes that post

Not quite the "i just took the biggest risk of my life" post you thought it would be, yeah?

EDIT Wow. OP really owned me with that great explanation. Got me downvoted into oblivion. +30 to -52. But as Doc Brown would say "There's only one problem future boy....if your game just came out in August, then how are half the reviews for the game dated from July?"

Downvote me all you want reddit, but when I get even a slight whiff of BS or attempted manipulation, I will call it out. I don't care how many fake internet points I lose, because that's just how I roll.

But in all seriousness, I do wish you well in your game. I know how hard it is to create something and sell it on amazon.
