Found! Not Jameson though.

Glass bottle in the underwear, buy a large Pepsi as soon as I get in the gate and then head to the bathroom to mix it.
I also have these: GoPong Hidden Lotion Flask, Sneak Alcohol Anywhere, 3-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LK0OQFE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FX48yb8J1EYQP

Try running cheap vodka through a water filter (I've used something like this). For college students who can't tell the difference between grey goose and absolut, it would make the shitty stuff mixed with OJ taste like the expensive stuff mixed with OJ.

u/Megasteel32 · 34 pointsr/INEEEEDIT

Here is a generic one, not the Jameson brand like the one in the gif.

u/Razzafrachen · 30 pointsr/Scotch

Room temp is good for whiskey. Don't worry about special ice or water. Maybe also have a small bottle of water on hand in case she wants to add a splash.

If you're not sure if she likes ice or not then I'd go with Canadian Glencairn Glasses. They've got the tulip shape which helps enhance the nose but they're wide enough to accommodate ice unlike other tulip-shaped glasses.

u/katerosetyler · 23 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

I have one. Currently has peanut butter M&Ms in it. Amazon, Fred & Friends is the brand. I bought it 2.5 years ago and it's held up great. here is the link

I CAN BE SO USEFUL TODAY!!!

The Libre Tea Mug has the exact same design as the mug you describe, but has glass on the inside, and plastic on the outside. Here's a video. There's a 10 oz version and a 14 oz version, and a 9.5 oz handled version.

However, I bought one of these and decided it's not the best thing in the universe. There were plenty of good things about it, but it had some flaws:

  1. It won't keep drinks hot for very long, because plastic & glass apparently don't keep things as warm as stainless steel (not sure if this is totally accurate), but you also have to remove the lid every time you drink, and it's all the way open, as opposed to a sippy lid or other designs that have small holes or whatever, and lots of heat escapes. It also means that you get a face full of steam every time you try to drink.

  2. When brewing black tea, you stick the leaves in between the two top lids (see video) and brew upside down. However, when you turn it upside down, the surface tension of the water actually retains the ENTIRE volume of water that was in the lid. Seriously. I don't know what the deal is. This happens even with zero tea leaves. This means that when you remove the two lids to drink (you need to remove both lids simultaneously if it's black tea, since the leaves are between the two lids), there's still lots of boiling hot water in the lid, and if you tap it, or bump it, or angle it, all that water falls out. You really have to tap the lid to dump this excess water before you drink; if you don't, you run the risk of spilling lots of hot water all over yourself. Someday you'll forget, and probably burn yourself.

    Aesthetic problems:

  3. You can hear the plastic creaking against the glass, and it makes it seem cheap. Purely psychological, but it probably could be fixed.

  4. The larger size and the handled mug version have the company's website printed address on the side of the lid. Pretty ugly in my opinion.

  5. The lid has a picture, but it's a physical object (a tiny carving or something) and it actually moves. It's somehow not secured in place, and it moves off center and looks awkward and cheap. Plus, I can see a couple parts of it bent the wrong way.

I can't really recommend it, but if you've used the Activitea and found it usable, you might be happy with the Libre. The design looks pretty much the same from the photos, as far as I can tell. But I have continued searching for the perfect tea mug.

    Contenders thus far:

  6. JoeMoXL: Entirely stainless steel, with a removable infuser basket, a push-button seal, 360 degree drinking, sipping that doesn't require removing the entire lid and draining heat away, leak proof, etc etc. Good stuff.

  7. Timolino infuser mug: Theoretically similar to the JoeMoXL, but no push-button seal, and the infuser basket has some plastic. Oh well though. Adds a hidden compartment in the very top lid where you can store sugar. Smaller than most travel mugs (12 oz instead of the usual 16), so I think it's more practical to fill up, drink, then fill again and get a 2nd steeping out of the tea, as opposed to 16 oz over the course of the day and then getting home or whatever and not making use of the leaves until the next day maybe. There's also a carabiner version. Note that Timolino makes 2 tea mugs; this one, plus another that is ONLY good for green tea, with the leaves steeping inside the main chamber, with no removable infuser basket.

I've been shopping around for quite some time. These are the two winners as far as I am concerned, though they skip out on being see-through and hiding the tea in the lid, but I can't see any well-designed options out there with those traits (although this Thermos mug has the infuser in the lid, but I wasn't so excited about it), so I'm giving my seal of approval to these. There are other contenders I think, but these are equal or better compared to anything I can find. I might also just go with a Contigo and brew in a teapot and just deal with the fact that the mug has no internal tea infuser.

    OCD FTW!

It’s called Unzipped. You can try amazon (24.59USD, prime eligible) or Uncommon Goods (16.50USD, $4.95 economy shipping)

If you are outside the US... I am less helpful.

u/pipnwig · 19 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

It was originally made by Fred & Friends, though. If that type of quirky household item is appealing to you, they should be your go-to.

u/cyanpineapple · 12 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

I think you'll get a lot of waste from an eyedropper. When I made my lip tar lipsticks, I mixed lip tar and a tube of Burt's Bees in a microwavable pinch bowl (which I already had in my kitchen because they're so damn useful!), nuked it for a few seconds, mixed with a chopstick and then poured directly back into the Burt's Bees tube. The pinchiness of the bowl made pouring easy with almost no waste (I scraped up a little with the chopstick).

u/mafoo · 12 pointsr/OutOfTheLoop

I was shopping for coffee mugs on Amazon yesterday and came across a fuckload of "coffee humor": example. It really makes me angry for something, can't quite put my finger on it.

Similar to "coffee humor" is "wine humor", which is basically coffee humor but trashier: example.

u/SankThaTank · 10 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

I got one of those rice washing bowls from amazon a couple years ago and it really was a game changer for me. I just put the rice in and rinse it for 30 seconds or so, drain out the excess water and dump it in a rice cooker. So easy and the rice comes out amazing every time. I could never go back to instant rice at this point

I use these for sneaking booze all the time:
GoPong Hidden Lotion Flask, Sneak Alcohol Anywhere, 3-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LK0OQFE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_igIgyb2Q6CAA0

Feel free to judge, but some of us can't afford $12 drinks...or even $6 drinks. I always buy 1 to be fair, but after that, it's purse booze for the win.

u/trevman · 7 pointsr/Cooking

u/LittleRoundFox · 6 pointsr/tea

Definitely go loose leaf.

For the tea brewing
This teapot is nice. I also like this style of in-cup infuser - both give the tea a reasonable amount of room to expand.

I would recommend starting with samples - What-Cha do two sample sets - one for a range of blacks, greens and oolongs; and the other just for Taiwan oolongs. They are in the UK and ship quickly. Linky if you're interested

I would probably recommend starting with oolong - iirc roasted have a lower caffeine content, but you'd need to check. Based on what you've said I think there are quite a few oolongs you will enjoy.

Adagio do some flavoured teas which might be worth looking into, too.

My understanding re caffeine in tea is that per-cup it has less than coffee, and one of the other compounds in it (l-theanine?) makes it less buzzy. I've also read - but am not sure how true it is - that if you re-brew with the same leaves each subsequent brew has a bit less caffeine than the previous one.

Beyond that I can't comment on the caffeine content, as caffeine doesn't much affect me (something which I'm incredibly pleased about, as I do have periods of suffering from anxiety and tea helps calm me).

u/blinky98 · 6 pointsr/LifeProTips

This should be higher up. Jim's creations are excellent and the plastic squeeze bottle makes this LPT much more convenient. You can get three of them for $6.

u/zeevaa · 6 pointsr/funny

Like this? I've seen them in several stores now. Although I do live in the south so I shouldn't be surprised.

u/Day_Bow_Bow · 6 pointsr/shutupandtakemymoney

$6 for a novelty plastic cocktail cup? Fuck that.

I'd rather keep it classy.

u/TheOpus · 6 pointsr/secretsanta

Both of those statements amuse me! =)

Drunk me has done online shopping for people before. One of my friends randomly received The Shot Flask from me for no reason. Well, there was kind of a reason. I was gifted one for Secret Santa and was drinking out of it and thought it was the greatest thing ever and that everyone needed one!

u/4j0sh4 · 5 pointsr/tea

Just go out and buy a cheap kettle ($10 or so) and keep it in your room/kitchen. I used to fill mine up from the bathroom sink I had in my room. Makes tea at breakfast time, and makes the water for instant noodles at lunchtime. And then at dinnertime it makes the water for instant noodles again.

Ninja edit: This was with simple tea bags but you can get thermos cups with loose leaf mesh things that fit inside. You can take your thermos of tea to your 8am class that way (I've put mine on my bike and ridden 25 mins to uni and the tea was still hot)

For example: http://www.amazon.com/Thermos-12-Ounce-Stainless-Steel-Tumbler-Infuser/dp/B00004S1CV

u/Jowlsey · 5 pointsr/LifeProTips

You could filter the vodka several times to cut down on the 'bite' I've done this with some real cheap vodka, and after 7 or so passes through a filter, it's much better.

All you need is a Britta pitcher style water filter, a regular pitcher, and a funnel (optional).

  • Pour your rot-gut into the Britta water filter.
  • Go do something for a few minutes while it works its way though the filter.
  • Pour the filtered vodka into the regular picture, and then back into the Britta.
  • Repeat at least 5 times.
  • Once you're done filtering use the funnel to pour the now primo vodka back into the bottle.

You may want to set aside a little bit before starting to do a before and after comparison.
u/GraceGallis · 5 pointsr/boardgames

For Eldritch Horror, it's been a great pleasure to swap the sanity/stamina counters for red and blue d8s. It was also great to upgrade the d6s to 16mm dice - they roll better and feel heftier than the 12mms the game came with.

I also like these pinch bowls for miscellaneous components: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00080FPZM

Also: foam core inserts are great for making the experience better organized and help make the set up faster!

For the sweet tooth (like my dad, these are all things he likes):

  • A candy jar or bowl filled with her favorite candy.

  • An artisan ice cream scoop.

  • An ice cream maker. You could get an ice cream recipe book as well.

  • One of my dad's favorite gifts was a sugar dispenser... I think that shows his level of sugar commitment.

  • Some artisan marshmallows.

  • A milk frother that doubles as a hot chocolate maker.

For the executive (like my mom, these are all things she likes):

  • A high quality thermos for coffee on the way to work.

  • A smart home setup, maybe an echo and some smart outlets or the google home. Really good for turning lights on/off, asking for the weather and news, listening to music, etc.

  • A FitBit to help her keep healthy even working long hours.

  • A popcorn maker that allows you to make non-microwaved popcorn in the microwave.

  • A white noise machine. If she has any trouble sleeping this thing is AMAZING.

  • A Roku or Chromecast that makes it easier to watch Netflix on the TV.

  • Wine tasting or cooking class that you can do together. Really my mom loves doing stuff with her family.
u/hshawn419 · 5 pointsr/Cooking

Rinse the rice first, that will help with the brown. You can buy a strainer bowl that helps with this, I'll find a link.

Try using 2/3 rice to 1 water. (More water) that should help with coming out dry.

Best of luck.

My favourite western-style teapot is the Hario Maru. The Ikea Riklig mentioned earlier also looks nice. IMHO the most important thing about glass pots, if you go for one, is that they are easy to clean: No bamboo parts, and no curvy spouts.

u/Aidman923 · 3 pointsr/Soda

I have made a few sodas so far. Most commonly, (and my personal favorite,) I make a ginger beer. If you have a juicer, that's the way to go to make good home-crafted sodas. You can create all kinds of flavors with just the juice of fruits and vegetables, then sweeten with simple syrups, add water and carbonate. Keep in mind that using fresh juices puts a certain shelf life on your drinks. (Still working on how to preserve one's sodas for bottling, etc.)

I personally use a soda siphon for carbonation (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00007JXR7). This has its perks and downfalls. On the one hand, forced carbonation produces zero alcohol content (which is why I go with that,) and forgoes the possibility of accidentally blowing up your bottles of soda due to over-fermentation (I've actually seen this happen.)On the other hand, it fizzes out and goes flat faster and more easily than fermenting. This has been an issue when I've tried to make a bottle of carbonated ginger beer (or any other soda I've made) and then attempted to drink from the bottle. By the time you're doing so, there isn't much carbonation left.

My next venture is Sarsaparilla, or maybe an actual root beer. Either way, creating and perfecting your recipes is fun and delicious. I really enjoy it as a casual hobby. Good luck in your attempts!

u/saltyteabag · 3 pointsr/tea

Hario's pots are my favorite. This 700ml pot is great, and so is this 450ml version if you prefer. They have some even smaller pots as well.

u/MacGuyver247 · 3 pointsr/Cooking

This is not a recipe suggestion as much as a tip. Get squeezy bottles for:

  • Oil, peanut or some high temp oil
  • Broth
  • Soy sauce
  • Fish sauce [edit: just saw the seafood]
  • Sesame Oil
  • Sriracha

Also the little Soy Sauce Dishes for:

  • Ginger paste
  • Garlic
  • green onion tops
  • green onion bottoms
  • sugar
  • msg (or broth powder or ignore if you hate msg)
  • cornstarch
  • touchi
  • XO sauce [contains seafood]

Finally, do not buy the products I mentioned through the links I supplied. Go to your local chinatown. It will have all these products and cost less.

Other accessories: a gas burner, you can get a portable one at 10$. A wok ladle. and a spider.

As for recipes... er... popcorn? ;)

Stir fries are great, but once you start making your own fried rice you'll look forward to converting ALL leftovers into carby goodness.

Enjoy and don't hesitate to ask us questions!

>What kind of cooking oil should I use? I'm leaning towards extra virgin olive oil.

EVOO has a lower "smoke point", making it bad for certain types of cooking/temp ranges. Basically, it depends on how you're using it. I have a squirt bottle of Olive Oil and one of EVOO, and I generally only use the EVOO in salads, and use the OO to do most of my cooking.

It’s not perfect, but this has been one of my favorite tumblers:

Thermos 12-Ounce Stainless-Steel Tea Tumbler with Infuser (Discontinued by Manufacturer) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004S1CV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_bE6uDbCD2RPSA

It keeps the water at scalding and has two inner lids to choose from. The strainer lid is for me too small to do a regular steep, so I will either pre-steep, pour in, and use the standard drink lid, or add the leaf directly to the tumbler and drink using the strainer lid.

u/chronax · 2 pointsr/tea

I use this one and like it a lot.

u/Oranges13 · 2 pointsr/Paleo

I was planning on getting one of these. For me its easier than being stuck with an entire bottle all at once, and its easy to spritz into fruit juice or something like that.

u/VAPING_ASSHOLE · 2 pointsr/videos

I recently cut back on my soda intake and got a Brita water pitcher after getting sick of hoisting big bricks of bottled water in to the house. Get one or some other filter if your tap water tastes like shit.. It helped me make the switch for sure.

u/mechanically · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

One of these,

Unless you've got a suite, unlikely for a freshman, you will not have a tap in your room. Stick it in your tiny fridge, and this will be the messiah for your parched mouth on many hungover mornings. Also save you from amassing huge quantities of empty bottles or cans.

Thermometer. The one I have is from a Culinary Arts class I took, but this looks to be the same. It's very useful, and to calibrate it, which you'll need to do every once in a while, fill a cup full of ice and then water and put the blue thing on so you can move it (I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm sure you'll get it), and make sure the dimple is in the water and move it to 32 degrees.

Edit: Also, the mug was from the reddit Secret Santa exchange! It's a really fantastic mug.

u/tr1ppn · 2 pointsr/Wishlist

I actually really need a Brita Filter. I know it's not a necessity as you suggested, so please glaze over it if someone needs food/pet stuff/hygiene products/etc. We need one because we go through a TON of bottled watter, and it drives me insane. I hate using all of that plastic when I could just filter it myself. I used to have one, but I didn't take care of it, and ended up having to throw it away.

If you feel so inclined, it is on my kitchen wishlist.

Thanks for the contest!

I'm on mobile so I can only copy/paste. The water quality in my rinky dink town is less than stellar so this would be nice. I used to just drink the filtered water from the fridge but now I don't have a fancy filtered dispencer on my fridge so the amount of water I drink has gone down. It's no longer my choicr beverage and my body hates that.

u/knoxawe · 2 pointsr/mildlyinteresting

You should try one of the many mug strainers. They sell them all over the place. You said you were in Canada so you could try DavidsTea, Teavana/Starbucks, or even Chapters has some. They allow for more room than a tea ball (which I also hate) but allow for less than a pot.

You could also try just getting a smaller pot. I use this teapot as one of my smaller ones. The Hario pots are pretty amazing plus it's nice to see your tea brew in the glass. Some people don't like glass teapots though.

u/getText · 2 pointsr/tea

Is something like [this Hario kyusu] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006HINDI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_AvJgVokcDe4Tk) what you're looking for? I recently bought one and absolutely love it. The infuser is removable so I just use it as a strainer to avoid that metallic taste. Works wonderfully and at $14 it's a steal.

u/simsoy · 2 pointsr/tea

I use electric and a traditional teapot or gaiwan. The only problem I can see you running into with the kettle being your teapot is that getting the leaves out might be hard (no basket filter) or that the left over flavoring might seep into the water for your next brew. Unless the kettle is dishwasher safe that might present an issue.

this teapot might be ideal for you. It's high quality, inexpensive and small. Good for reseeping tea.

u/Su_toL · 2 pointsr/tea

Not quite sure if this is what you meant, but I have this teapot (around the size you mentioned, 450ml is ~15.5oz) which has a removable mesh strainer and it's pretty sweet: https://www.amazon.com/Hario-Chacha-Kyusu-Maru-450ml/dp/B0006HINDI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1493529901&sr=8-2&keywords=kyusu+teapot

Pretty sure that pot has been recommended here before. Not sure as far as a plain old infuser, but anything you can get that gives more room for the tea leaves to expand would be best!

u/RebuildMode- · 2 pointsr/tea

Hario. I own this particular size (450 ml), and it's perfect for 1 big cup or 2 smaller cups. The glass will get hot where the tea contacts it, but the handle has never gotten hot on me. It pours really well and is easy to clean too -- always a plus at work.

u/tppytel · 2 pointsr/Cooking

Yeah, the process is fun. :) I have one of these teapots, which is the perfect size for 3-4 servings, along with some simple Japanese ceramic teacups. Nothing fancy (maybe $25 all told) but Asian green teas aren't meant to be drunk in huge American mugs. If you have a decent digital thermometer then that helps to dial in your temps/timings.

here's what i do... i find a dish that's low enough and wide enough for me to fill mostly with glitter w/o overflowing when i stick my finger in it. for reference, i usually use these little silicone mise en place dishes i got for christmas. :)

then i dip my basecoated fingernail in glitter and instantly brush off any that's on my skin back into the dish; after waiting a few minutes for the polish to set w/ the glitter, i brush the excess from the nail back into the dish, too. a few gentle pats with the flat of my brush nixes standing pieces and also helps settle the glitter firmly. after it's dried really well, i brush it again more vigorously -- i HATE when i get glitter in my topcoat lol -- to make sure every loose piece is off. then i put a thick layer of glitter food followed by a thick layer of topcoat.

u/Matronix · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

u/torankusu · 2 pointsr/Bento

For my first bento, I made a sandwich, haha. I also filled in the gaps with baby carrots, saltine crackers, and a little bit of cream cheese to eat with the crackers.

I don't know if it's a concern to you, but rather than using disposable cupcake liners, you could go green (and save money) with silicone containers. :) I used these for my cream cheese and other little side dishes, but I also use silicone cupcake liners, which come in different shapes and colors (you could get the round ones, but there are ones of other shapes, like squares and hearts).

Your little fruit cup looks appetizing. :)

u/Exis007 · 2 pointsr/cookingforbeginners

Get a reliable pourer if you're spilling. Chances are your bottle sucks. For oil, you could use a squeeze bottle or an oil bottle to reduce spilling. If your container is unwieldy, you're more likely to spill.

u/RioTheDragonMan · 2 pointsr/FoodPorn

Some say that a squeezable plastic condiment bottle - as is commonly used for ketchup and mustard, and which is available for just a dollar or two in the grocery store - makes a viable and low-budet alternative to the rocket blower.

And it doesn't look like a bomb.

u/Lord_Assbeard · 2 pointsr/Vaping

Just a few tips I've found. Don't be afraid to experiment. Ive made some juice that sounded good in my head but was disgusting and I've made some that sounded bad on paper but was delicious.

Keep up with what you mix. I use a small notebook for this but the worst thing you can do is make an amazing mixed berry cheesecake with just the right amounts of yogurt to make it Tangy and you forget. Sounds a tad specific huh?

And if throat irritating is a problem I would suggest not adding pg outside of your flavors. Most of them are pg from my understanding. Just be careful with some tanks not wicking well with high vg blends.

Finally mix. Mix... MIX. You literally cannot shake it enough. It's important to get a good mixture going for it to steep properly.

Some tools I use that aren't usually advertised in kits and things of the like include

Empty commercial sauce bottle for your vg something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/OrangeTag-Squeeze-Bottles-pack-Clear/dp/B000QJBNII)

LOTS OF PAPER TOWELS

And labels. I use Avery 1"x3" ones. They are 250 for I think 8 bucks at my office store.

Squeeze bottles are my choice. My syrups are generally made 2:1 so it takes forever to use a regular bottle with a speed pourer, and squeeze bottles are great to cut the flow exactly when you want to.

Get some Wineskins. They're bubble-wrapped bottle-shaped bags that seal on the bottom. The seal would supposedly prevent leaks but I've never in all my travels (with a lot of bottles) lost a bottle in a Wineskin, though I'm sure it can happen... I have lost bottles wrapped in clothes since clothes shift and bottles smack against each other and break. At like $2 per Wineskin, it's well worth the money. I've had 4 or 5 bottles in a suitcase that way. At the very least, if you do decide to wrap them in clothes, I'd tape them in so they're not gonna slip out of the padding.

u/HotBehind · 2 pointsr/wine

I second this! I have used this product many times! I put the bottles in the skin and seal them up then wrap them in clothes for an extra layer of protection. I flew across the United States and Europe using them and haven't had a problem yet.

The trick to sticky rice, not sushi rice, is to wash it really well, until the water runs clear. I use a big bowl and a rice strainer since in my sink it's hard to tell when it's clear enough. Then let it soak in water for 30 minutes. After that dump the water and put it in a pot. Add about 1/2 inch more water than rice to the pot. Then turn the burner on high with a lid covering the pot. Cook on high for about 15-20 minutes. You will most likely burn it on the bottom the first few times but you'll get the hang of it and your stove/pots. Be sure to use a wooden/ soft plastic spoon to scoop the rice so it doesn't break.

Sushi rice is the same but with more steps/ingredients after the rice is done.

u/defdestroyer · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

As discussed in the manual for this rice cooker, you only need to wash unpolished white rice. This is because the dehusking process that removes the husk and the bran leaves behind some of both and washing removes these. Polished white rice is already washed for you, and brown, black or wild rice do not need it because their husk and bran have not been removed.

That said, I recommend this washing bowl.

I know it's kind of a specialized tool but they make strainers specifically for rice. They drain slow so you can see how clear the water is. The holes are small so no rice gets through. And it has a strainer/spout to pour off excess water.

You can use it as a normal colander too so it's not just sitting there for nothing.

I picked up one of these "Japanese Washing Bottom Drainers" rice strainers on the cheap and it is DEFINITELY worth the coin to strain rice and quinoa. It's not metal so you won't run the risk of chipping away at the hulls of the grain if you get playful with the washing.

Tough to say as there are so many little hacks. I like these three the most though:

  1. Probe thermometer with temperature alarm. I don't have to babysit my strike or sparge water, and I can set it at 205F with a cover on the kettle to speed up the initial wort boil without fear of boil-over.

  2. Power drill wisk makes aeration a snap. I run it 2 minutes immediately after chilling & transfer to primary, then 2 more minutes ~15-30 minutes later post cleanup and right before pitching.

  3. Nylon paint strainer bag for use as a hop/trub filter and as a racking filter. Post chilling, I transfer my wort into a sanitized bucket through a sanitized nylon paint strainer. It makes removing the hops a cinch without having to fiddle with a hop spider or hop bags. I also place a sanitized nylon paint strainer over my racking cane when I'm transferring to secondary and/or to my bottling bucket.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain. who doesn't like doggy rain jackets? :3

3.) Something food related that is unusual. BACON

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. this item is something i would like to give to my boyfriend as a gift. he finally got his dream car on the road and we both love Judas priest.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! this book is a classic. if you have seen the movie then the book is even better. along with my grandparents being back round actors in the original movie. look the book, love the movies.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! cause its "cheap stuff"

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! i would never get bored with this. or tiss on my wishlist :3

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. it's useless to me because i don't drink, but it's cool as fuck. (on wishlist, for my sister)

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? I loved this movie when i first watched it. it's interesting, keeps you watching and it doesnt start out boring like most "scary movies" do. it's a movie i would suggest to all. (on wishlist)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. it explains itself.. but you can hold a lot of stuff while out hunting zombies!

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. on my wishlist. " a golf ball weighs no more than 1.620 oz (45.93 grams), has a diameter not less than 1.680 in (42.67 mm)" my item is 1.25 in.

This depends primarily on how much you want to brew and what style (batch vs continuous). The easiest first step would be to go with a glass gallon jug. If you want to go a little bigger, get a 2 gallon with a non metal spigot (plastic and stainless steel are ok). Spigots make it way easier to pour for 2F. Not sure it’s worth it for a 1 gallon jug but for sure for 2+ G.

u/americanpatriot86 · 2 pointsr/Paleo

I just started making it myself. I got a SCOBY from Amazon and here's my general recipe:

  1. 1 Gallon brewed tea (black is the easiest/cheapest to use, but I've used Roobios too)
  2. 1 Cup sugar (I used refined white sugar - while technically not Paleo, it is the easiest for the SCOBY to digest)
  3. 1 SCOBY
  4. 1 Cup distilled white vinegar/previously brewed tea

Boil the water. Once the water is boiling, add in the sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the tea bags (I usually use 12 tea bags/Gallon) and brew to desired strength. I like mine strong, so I leave the tea bags in the pot until the tea is to room temperature. You can put it in the refrigerator if you want to cool it off quicker. This is very important since hot tea will kill your SCOBY.

Sterilize your brew container by swishing some vinegar around or running it through the dishwasher on the hot cycle. I bought one of these to use as my brew container since it makes bottling into these bad boys easier. This is also very important since you don't want any "bad" bacteria to get into your controlled fermentation environment. Pour the tea into your brew container, add the vinegar/starter liquid, and add the SCOBY. From this point on, do not let the kombucha touch anything metal or any non-sterilized equipment. Cover your brew vessel with a clean dish cloth/coffee filter/paper towels and let sit 7-10 days, depending on how vinegar-y you like it.

That's pretty much it. Just make sure everything is clean and sterile when handling the SCOBY and you will be fine. There are a bunch of recipes and how-to's out there as well, I've just summed them up in this post. Happy Brewing!

Water is free since it's included in my utilities, however, it tastes awful. I would love to be able to purify it up a bit with this pitcher. Rockstar!

u/xaffinityx · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I have a few things that I actually need, but I can't link anything right now(I'll come edit with links when I get to a computer).

Not for me, but my bird would appreciate a couple new perches. Getting his nails trimmed is expensive and it's uncomfortable for him. I'd like to make it easier for him to trim them on his own so he doesn't have to go through the stress and pain of the vet visit.

I could really use a water filter. I don't like the taste of tap water, and bottled water is too expensive. I could filter the tap and try to be a little healthier and drink it instead of sweet tea or soda.

What would make my life slightly better would be maybe a vacuum cleaner. My mom gave me her old one when she moved away, but it doesn't really work. I've tried everything I could do to fix it, but no go. Since we have a lot of animals, vacuuming is a weekly if not more often, chore. A working vacuum would be awesome!

On the more expensive side, a mattress would definitely improve my quality of life. I've never had a new one, they've all been hand me downs or bought used. The one I have now could have been super nice, but the previous owners left dents where they slept in it. So there really isn't any support for my body. Having fibromyalgia makes me have a hard time sleeping, so it would be nice to enjoy the sleep I do get. It also makes me overheat really easy, so I often wake up in the middle if the night burning up even when it's 68 degrees.

Sorry for the wall! I just wanted to put the things I actually needed and give a variety :)

This is an awesome contest and I hope everyone's lives get a little better if they need it! <3

u/TheCommieDuck · 1 pointr/tea

So I currently have 2 teapots; one is about 450ml and was a second-hand gift, but sadly it's too small to fit my infuser basket in. The other one is a fancier porcelain one, but the issue is that it's a litre. My infuser basket fits great, but unless I fill it rather full (900 or 1000ml of water), it doesn't work amazingly because it's one of those taller, thinner ones.

After browsing the sub I found http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hario-Stainless-Glass-Teapot-Infuser/dp/B0006HINDI/ (which is 450ml) and it seems to have a much bigger infuser basket than I currently have. I really want to try gongfu, too...blah, I'm going to end up with far too many teapots at this rate.

u/LilWhipperSnapper · 1 pointr/hiphopheads

It depends what you are interested in. Loose leaf is definitely the way to go, all you need is a teapot like this and something to heat the water in. For the teas themselves, r/tea has a list of vendors that covers many different areas. r/tea can be a great resource in general, there are tons of super knowledgeable people for each kind of tea and there are multiple people in the industry there. What-Cha is very well liked and has a variety of teas from all over, they are definitely a good place to order from for the first time. They have an intro to tea collection, though I feel that a white tea like this one should be included in it.

I love the silicone ones. I have a set: https://www.amazon.com/Norpro-Silicone-Mini-Pinch-Bowls/dp/B00080FPZM/ref=sr_1_8?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1549316963&sr=1-8&keywords=pinch+bowl

I also have a set of glass dishes like these: https://www.amazon.com/Maredash-Kitchen-Stackable-Dishware-Combination/dp/B07DVHDBMX/ref=sr_1_25?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1549316963&sr=1-25&keywords=pinch+bowl

And some crockery ones like these that are really nice and opaque (when that is important): https://www.amazon.com/Now-Designs-Terracotta-Pinch-Bowls/dp/B06XS1B6SS/ref=sr_1_5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1549316963&sr=1-5&keywords=pinch+bowl

You can also do those in plastic: https://www.amazon.com/Oggi-Melamine-6-Piece-Assorted-Colors/dp/B001U24ESQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1549316963&sr=1-7&keywords=pinch+bowl

I'd recommend the silicone ones, but only if you can get big enough ones. Otherwise it can get frustrating not having enough. I think for the bang for the buck, the glass ones above are the best balance of cost, size, ease of use (and non-game utility), cleanup (if needed), and stackability. :) If silicone were cheaper and larger, they'd be my fave.

Store-bought mayo is definitely unhealthy; companies like Hellman's use refined soybean oil, low quality eggs and everything is pasteurized. Make your own mayo with healthy, cold-pressed oils and fresh eggs, and don't be afraid of fat from good sources. Here's the mayo I always make:

  • Combine 2 raw egg yolks, 1 whole egg, 1 Tbsp mustard, 1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper.

  • Combine 1/2 cup olive oil and 1/2 cup coconut oil. If you have a bottle like this, use it. Anything that allows you to control the stream of the oil will do.

  • If you have a high speed blender, add everything but the oils to the carafe and blend on a moderate speed. Add a slow stream of oil to the blender, starting at a few drops and increasing the flow until the oil is completely combined. Be careful not to overheat it.

  • If you do not have a suitable blender, you're going to be whisking with one hand and pouring oil with the other. The process is the same, albeit slower.

Happy Birthday, mang!

I too bought the Sterile Siphon Starter racking cane & hood after reading u/brulosopher's write-up (Cheers, bro). It's much simpler than a clunky auto-siphon (which I've been using for almost 2 years now).

Because I don't have a utility sink, and our kitchen sink is small (and the stainless cane is quite tall) - to rinse and clean, I just use food service squeeze bottles like these and run hot water, and/or PBW/Oxy solution, and then with Star San. Not sure if this is of any value, but otherwise - Cheers!

I live in Southern California so it's definitely not as hot as AZ but I think it's doable. With no poo I think a lot of people don't really wash their hair that much (2 times a week maybe?) but for you that number just might be 3 or 4. For the hard water, what I do is boil the water, let it cool a bit, and then put the baking soda in. I have an old Thayer's witch hazel toner bottle that I pour the mixture in so I don't have to boil water ALL THE TIME and a full bottle of the mixture lasts me about a month.

EDIT: You could even try a squirt bottle like this: 12 oz squirt bottle I just checked and the Thayer's witch hazel bottles contain 12 oz! I just squirt the mixture at my roots.

As for one specific item... I have two candy dishes at work, one for normal candy and another for sugar-free candy (for the diet-conscious and diabetic). Everyone gives me compliments on the glass fishbowl, but no one seems to share the same affection for the (boring?) basket. I think this unique glass ziplock bag candy dish would catch more eyes and make the clear candies more attractive! These sugar-free Jolly Ranchers and Crystal Light candies are really yummy! Plus, it would go nicely with the other glass bowl.

Mischief Managed!

So I decided to order my school supplies from a "reputable" magical supply store. I can not believe what happened. So you order by answering riddles and I thought that would ensure that everyone's orders are correct, I guess not....

Riddle the First-Wine or Wine Goblet

Either way, I wonder if this is even considered to be appropriate [drink wear] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004HZR94O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=25MSIGOHKX8AU&coliid=I1GX53XQYP0JML&psc=1) in the Great Hall of the RAOA school of magic, merriment and Mischief.

Riddle the Second- Broom

I don't know what they were thinking, I asked for a Firebolt, I will never be able to fly with these. I thought maybe they were just tiny for shipping purposes, but I've tried to use Engorgio to make them bigger, but nothing happens.

Riddle the Third- Hat

I swear I ordered a standard witch's hat. I am not sure how they heard wicker hat.

Riddle the Fourth- Book

They told me that this is one of the most important books of knowledge of our times and I wouldn't be able to pass my muggle studies with out it

Riddle the Fifth- Trunk

I don't even know what to say about this. How am I suppose to get all my supplies/clothes to school in these? I mean sure if I was a guy I am sure they would be pretty comfortable. Note to self, next time use the word Luggage Trunk.

Bonus Riddle- Cape

And last but not least, I just wanted a simple black cape. It's black alright, but unless I am going to be giving haircuts in my common room, I have no idea what to do with this.

That is the last time I order anything from Mundungus Fletcher's Magic Emporium.

Inomata Japanese Rice Washing Bowl with Side and Bottom Drainers, Clear

u/JackaIope · 1 pointr/Cooking

I use the IP to make short-grain rice and I did it fine on the first try. Note that if you must eat very fresh tasting rice it still won't be good enough but if you can deal with Asian restaurant rice (the ones that are at last halfway genuine anyway) it should be comparable.

The problem is that i'm using specialized equipment so honestly I don't know how the results would be otherwise.

Scoop 2 cups of rice with the rice cup (if you don't know what this is use a teacup I guess...) and then place it in a bowl to wash it. Run water from the tap on your rice and mix it up with your hands for five to ten seconds, drain the water, then repeat this washing process three to five times.

If we were in my kitchen at this point we would move the rice to the additional stainless pot I linked above but if you don't have one either use any stainless steel bowl large enough to contain the rice or an oven-safe glass bowl. Place 2 cups of purified water specifically from the same cup you used to scoop the rice.

Then after covering that bowl with a lid safe for the IP or with aluminum foil, place the minimum amount of water inside the main pot, a trivet inside of the same pot (if using items not designed for the IP bring the trivet that came with the appliance) and then put the pot/bowl that contains the rice inside of the main stainless pot that comes with every Instant Pot.

This is the Pot-in-Pot method which I use for most situations I use the IP. Essentially because the water that is necessary for the pot to come to pressure is separate from the water used for the rice they will not interfere with each other, the rice won't absorb the water meant to be for keeping the pot under pressure nor will you have to add more water than necessary in order to retain enough of it to keep the IP functioning properly.

Close the IP and then use the rice setting for 12 minutes (assuming quantities are the same, I unfortunately don't know what to tell you for larger or smaller ones) and after it's done let it natural release for at least 10 minutes before releasing the rest of the pressure. This is important because if you do it too soon the rice won't have absorbed enough of the water. Once you take the bowl out it should be ready to serve and can be refrigerated and reheated without losing too much quality.

I think the IP has some kind of automatic sensor for how long it's supposed to cook your rice but honestly I have no clue as to when it wants to or doesn't nor do I know how it even guesses. I only know the necessary steps for making how much rice I personally eat in one day unfortunately as a result.

u/thixotrofic · 1 pointr/anime

Like, I would write one paragraph and then move to another paragraph without reading what I had already written. And I think I got distracted a few times too.

Anyways, lul, yes, you do need water. It really makes it foolproof though. You get a measuring cup, and then there is a ruler on the inside of the cooking container which shows exactly how much water you need to add for X cups of uncooked rice of various types. You are expected to wash the rice thoroughly too. I use this.

I haven't had mine for long, but I wouldn't be surprised given its relative simplicity and apparent high build quality for it to last a decade. I imagine this brand is as well-known as it is because it is extremely reliable.

I have a few dram glasses, glencairns, and Canadian whisky glasses (came with the Jack Single Barrel Christmas set last year) that I prefer. Feel sturdy enough to me. I also brought back a Yamazaki rocks glass and a tasting glass from the distillery. I have enough options at reasonable price points for nosing, cocktails, rocks, or neat that I don't feel the need to pay a bundle for these pretty glasses that might break if I look askance at them.

I've seen these Brumate BN8G Nos'R glasses a few times that are pretty (except that they're opaque) and nigh indestructible for $24.95 each on Amazon.

u/brbcoding · 1 pointr/bourbon

That's what I've been using lately and I love it (these ones).

And to the OP: I recently ordered a bourbon neat at a bar and it ended up being served chilled in a martini glass ಠ_ಠ. Whatever you do, do not do that.

u/Quorum_Sensing · 1 pointr/Scotch

I like the Canadian whiskey Glencairns too. I use them for bourbon mostly, but they are significantly more stable.

u/HollowWiener · 1 pointr/winnipegjets

Does he have nice whisky drinking glasses? A glencairn is a must for any whisky lover, and the canadian glencairn is a very comfortable glass to drink out of.

Those are a very good price, and they look pretty good...my only concern is that the base seems both a little lighter and a little narrower than the pricier Glencairns. But they have great reviews, so I'd probably go for it if I needed any!

I also like whisky tots (sometimes called whisky bowl glasses or Canadian whisky glasses), like these, but it's harder to find bargains on these (which is why I didn't even mention them at first): http://www.amazon.com/Glencairn-Crystal-Canadian-Whisky-Glass/dp/B005LSA4GQ

Yeah, those are great for tasting whisk(e)y - this style can also be good and is a bit bigger if one should ever like to make a cocktail or use ice: "Canadian Glencairn". http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005LSA4GQ?pc_redir=1414501324&robot_redir=1

Tasting - as in really thinking about the smells flavors writing down notes - ice will only dull your tongue and not help, and the regular Glencairns might be too small to fit ice cubes. If you ever like to make cocktails (more common with bourbon/rye than scotch for sure) like Manhattans, old Fashioneds, or just have some booze over a few ice cubes, the Canadian may be a bit better and they are still very nice for "tasting" neat. Just my 2 cents - I have both styles and even just bought a "NEAT" glass but haven't tried it yet. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IK4I9RE/ref=mlt_B005LSA4GQ_B00IK4I9RE

OK well I'll give you my recipe, here's what you'll need:

1 large stock pot 30-32 quarts is what you're shooting for. I got mine at Walmart for much less than this.

Yeast nutrient I prefer fermaid K but you can use Fermax, avoid DAP for a while it's kinda rough to dial in for a novice and can cause funky stuff to happen.

Campden Tablets

Wine Tannin

Some form of CO2, you can use Wine Preservation spray or if you paintball like me, fill your tanks up at the local place, and just use a regulator to dispense it.

WLP-099 for yeast. You can also use Wyeast 4347 if you want it to finish a bit sweeter.

You need a bathtub full of apples (not kidding) this is about ~100-150 pounds. I live in New England and buy cider apples for cheap money when they're in season from an orchard.

18-21 pounds of honey depending on which yeast you're using and if you want it to finish sweet or dry, I like to use orange blossom honey for this recipe, but anything light such as clover or some wildflower honeys will work. If you go with the Wyeast stuff stick with 18 pounds, if you're using the White Labs stuff and you still want some residual sweetness, go for 21 pounds.

A juicer to crush your apples. You could do this manually, but you will hate your life.

A Carboy stirrer or a Wine Whip You could use a super long stainless steel spoon, but in all honesty these do a much better job.

A big ass primary bucket this is what I use now, but if you've got a pair of 6.5 gallon buckets you're good too. I drilled a hole in the top for my "dry airlock" These open at 0.25 PSI, and they're both indestructible and cheap, plus you'll never have to worry about forgetting to fill your airlocks.

2 6.5 gallon glass carboys (these will be MUCH cheaper locally due to shipping costs)

1 All in One Wine Pump with a 10" house filter setup You can get the 1 and 5 micron filters cheaper on Amazon then the site they link there, and for the 0.5 micron finishing filter you get that HERE

Start with a bathtub full of apples with the stopper in, after the tub is full, fill around the apples with hot water. let that soak overnight to loosen up the dirt and hydrate the apples as well as you can. All hot water, no cold for this. Stir up the apples gently.
Wash the apples in bunches the next day, I have my kids help me with this, any ones with bad spots they put aside so I can either reject them outright or just cut the bad spots off. Cut the apples into quarters, only remove the stem and any leaves don't worry about the core or seeds or anything else. Any bad spots or worm eaten apples throw into the garbage.

Run all of the cleaned apples through a juicer. Put the pulp into your big primary bucket & put the juice into your big ass pot.

Heat the juice to 200 degrees, add 3 to 3.5 pounds of honey per gallon of juice (depends on what yeast you're using) and stir until well mixed (and still at 200 degrees.) This is to pasteurize the apple juice and kill any wild yeast or other microbes. Don't boil it, 200 degrees is fine. You should have about 7-7.5 gallons of juice from a full bathtub of apples plus a crapload of solids.

Add 1 teaspoon of Fermaid K nutrient, 1/2 teaspoon wine tannin, and 2 crushed campden tablets, stir that bitch up good.

Pour that on to the apple solids in each bucket. Mix it quickly, and make sure it's still at least 185 degrees F. This will pasteurize your apple solids. If it is under 185 degrees, then either pour in some boiling water and get it back to temperature OR siphon some juice out, reheat that stuff and pour it back. This is the ONLY time you can add ANY water, and if you're quick with the apple juice you won't need boiling water and it will turn out MUCH better.

Wait 24 hours.

Pitch your yeast. For this brew I make a big ass starter of the WLP-099 or the Wyeast 4347. With 3.5 pounds of honey per gallon plus the 100% apple juice liquids, I end up with around 35-37 Brix, giving me a high potential alcohol. The WLP-099 typically eats it nicely if step fed and aerated daily for the first week to give around 22-23% ABV while still finishing sweet with 3 pounds per gallon of honey and the Wyeast 4347 it will finish slightly sweet at around 20-21% ABV.

Let it sit on the apple mash for 30 days, for the first week use the Carboy stirrer to mix it up good, every 3 days add 1/3 teaspoon yeast nutrient for the first 9 days (so initial addition during creation of the must, and an additional 1/3 teaspoon on days 3, 6 and 9 so 2 teaspoons total fermaid K.)

Let the mash sit unmolested from day 12 to day 30.

Siphon that off into glass carboys for secondary.

For this step I normally pull the mead through a 5 micron and then a 1 micron filter (both in a single pass with my filtration setup) this doesn't remove the yeast, but it makes sure no apple particulate is transferred into your secondary. It will still be very cloudy though, to the point where it is opaque, that's fine.

Hit the carboys with some CO2, either from wine preservation spray or the paintball canister setup like I said.

This is where I add spices and any other flavor. I have made a number of differently spiced Cysers, but my typical secondary includes 1/16 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1/8 teaspoon cardamom, 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon of freshly ground cinnamon.
After 30 more days I rack it off that, passing it once again through the 5 and 1 micron filters.

Then I hit it with CO2 to prevent oxidation and bulk age it. It doesn't move for at least 6 months, 12 if I can leave the carboys full for that long. After 2-3 months aging you can swap to a solid bung as you don't need the airlock anymore.

The mead will clear during aging. When it's transparent, it is ready to bottle. I do one more pass from my carboy through a 0.5 micron filter into another carboy, then siphon into my bottling bucket. I don't like bottling with my vacuum pump I suck at it and just make a big ass mess.

Yea it's a lot of work, but it's some of the best Cyser you'll ever have, and it's got one helluva kick so take care when you drink it.

I use this thing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007RT8U1S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Transfer wort to fermenter stick this thing in attached to a drill and let it rip.

u/EngineeredMadness · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

Edit: Just realized NZ. Have you checked AliExpress, you might be able to get something drop shipped reasonably? Other options are to use a pond pump and infusion stone, or to get an oxygen welding tank. Whirlpooling really doesn't need to be done with a drill FWIW. It's more about getting all the break/trub in one spot so you don't clog pumps. Hop utilization will be just find in a hop stand with some gentle stirring.

Finally, the counterpoint to oxygenation is hitting with a well sized starter. Even if you don't have a stir plate, if you can source a 1G / 4L jug, you can do the "shaken not stirred" starter method, which will minimize the need for additional oxygen prior to yeast pitch.

Still wouldn't recommend a paint mixer. These can be made with not-acid-safe metals and coatings, and who knows what kind of crap may leach out of the plastics and adhesives that hold them together. Sure you can get away with it and it won't kill you immediately, but given the risk, and the fact that it will be used every brew, I'd be a little more selective about my equipment.

There's actually a bunch of these available as "Wine Whip" or "Wine Degasser" on amazon, such as this. NorCal Brewing makes a really nice stainless one that isn't too expensive.

u/Mundokiir · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

Having made mead before, the only reason to stir/agitate is to remove carbon dioxide, or "degas" as it's called.

Are you doing staggered nutrient additions? If yes, then I advise stirring for 5 minutes or so with a degasser like this one which is what I used for my first few batches with great success, but any type of degassing wand from your LHBS will work for this purpose.

If not, I do not recommend daily stirring at all until primary fermentation is completed. Doing so does add risk of contamination and oxidation without any real benefit. The reason you'd want to do it when adding nutrients is because doing so without degassing will cause a huge foam-over. Ask me how I know.

In either case, I do not suggest shaking, or you're going to have a huge mess on your hands. Go to your local supplier and spend the $10-$15 for the proper tool.

I now use a vacuum pump to degas my wine/mead which is more expensive but easier, faster, and less risk of contamination.

Seriously though if you shake an active fermentation it's going to explode on you.

u/rxvirus · 1 pointr/mead

I use one of these in buckets and a 1 gallon test jug. Seems to work pretty well.
Clean Bottle Express Wine/Beer DeGasser https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007RT8U1S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_mpp8ybF1RJC5Z

There are a bunch of different styles of degassers that would probably all work.

u/TiempoDelGato · 1 pointr/mead

I've had pretty good results with this one. It's basically just weed trimmer cord on the end of a plastic dowel rod, but it gets the job done.

u/SpicyThunder335 · 1 pointr/mead

Two options: wine whip (you can use other things on hand with the same effect like some stiff wire that's been sanitized) and Fermcap-S.

Not really sure how effective Fermcap is when degassing (never tried it) - it's mainly just to prevent excessive foam during fermentation, not while actively mixing it up. Very, very careful use of a wine whip is probably your best bet. However, it's really not the end of the world if you don't degas at all.

u/MyOtherBrotherDarryl · 1 pointr/mead

I'm using this beer/wine degasser with a drill to mix/stir/degas in a carboy. Search for "wine whip" or "wine degasser" to see similar tools.

u/port_plz · 1 pointr/mead

I use my wine whip to mix must, aerate and of course degas. One of the best tools you can get.

With these products, you will be good to go and your volume is 2 gallons, so by the time your upgrading after your first batch. For me a 1 gallon container never cut it. With the capper you don’t have to worry about giving your friends a bottle of your Kombucha and never seeing your $4 swing cap bottle again. Just save old beer bottles or ask your friends for them.

To answer your question, the temps you listed are to low. For all brewing temperatures are very important. You want to keep your fermentation in the 70s. Here’s how you fix the problem without keeping your home heater on 24/7.

Regarding the tea, maybe get big beverage containers like this (http://www.amazon.com/Anchor-Hocking-Beverage-Dispenser-Heritage/dp/B00BWC0E42/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420985567&sr=8-2&keywords=glass+beverage+dispenser) and brew a whole bunch at once? You can probably just stick it in your fridge so it doesn't go bad and only have to brew it once every few days.

u/slobbie · 1 pointr/Kombucha

Get two of [these(https://www.amazon.com/Anchor-Hocking-Heritage-Beverage-Dispenser/dp/B00BWC0E42/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505181882&sr=8-3&keywords=2+gallon+glass+jar+with+spigot)] jars.

Get two gallon stock pot to brew your tea with sugar. Fill a jar with the sweet tea almost full leaving room for the gallon you are adding.
Wait about 7-10 days and then brew another two gallons of sweet tea. Pour half of the first ferment jar into the second empty glass jar and then split the two gallons of sweet tea between the two glass jars..
The first jar is your continuous brew jar. The second jar you may sweeten with whatever juices. I been doing Honeydew Jalapeño with great results. Bottle the second jar for a few days. I use growlers and honey jars and recycled beer bottles with a bottle capper.
In another 7-10 days you can repeat the process.

Hot topic. They have a lot of doctor who based things.

Edit: For example my S/O just got me this for christmas. They have a few different ones as well. They also have Doctor Who Themed Jenga, a card game that comes in a lunch box and a few other things as well like posters. This is what she got me last year if they are a coffee drinker. I also have a really big wall mural/poster thing that is this picture, but I would have to ask my parents where they got it. Thats pretty much all I have. Happy hunting!

So there's sort of two lines of thought when it comes to the juice losing nutrients right as you juice. That being one of them.

The other is that oxidation is what destroys the enzymes and nutrients that you want from the juice. So if you store it in an airtight container you don't have to worry about it as much. I have a masticating juicer (omega) and from what I hear and have read, the juice is good for up to 3 days! The ONLY juice I've heard that you should probably drink fairly rapidly after making it is carrot juice.

Also, if she's just starting out, here's some decent to go containers

I picked up some 18oz/532mL glass bottles today. They're very similar to the Epica bottles /u/muxon uses.

Some thoughts so far:

  • The screw-on caps seem to work well.
  • The glass isn't perfect, but they feel solid.
  • The bottles are each the perfect size for a 500cal serving of Soylent 1.5.
  • /u/thapol has a good tip for an effective bottle brush.

    Here's a bottle I filled for tomorrow.

I used a blender to prep 72oz/2.1L then split into 4 bottles. This works fairly well, but it's easy to lose a little even when using a funnel. Ten cuidado.
