It took him a little bit to get used to it. We put it in him about 10 minutes each day, when we have time, and play with him with string & toys so that he realizes he can run around and still move even with his harness on. He also really loves outside and chasing leaves so I think that distracted him! Good luck!

> A service animal is not required to be vested

Not to mention that a service vest is something that costs all of $25 on Amazon and doesn't really mean much.

u/ridethepiggy · 16 pointsr/Spokane

I carry disposables in a little leash bag holder. Kinda like this one.

Be sure to have a bag ready so you can pick it up and throw it at the owner. Keep in mind, it's not the dog's fault!

My big rant about dog owners in Spokane is people walking their dogs off-leash, whether in a public park (not the dog park) or in the natural areas. That's extremely dangerous for you, your dog, another dog owner or another dog.

My dogs are both well-behaved when no one is around but you don't know how the interaction will go for your dog off-leash vs someone else's dog on-leash.

u/anyones_ghost27 · 15 pointsr/dogs

I wish my dog would do this, but I would also never ever trust him, as the walk to the dog park is 0.7 miles and through a busy urban area until we get inside the park, which is also very busy and full of people with their dogs. I'd probably have to get an Uber home and hope I could find one that's OK with dogs, and tip them a lot. I've thought about this more in the context of his leash buckle or collar breaking.

Leash pro tip: either buy one with a D ring near the handle (I like this one as it as a traffic handle which is key for my 85 lb guy), or slap a carabiner on the handle, then you can clip it to itself and make a loop to wear across your body, on one shoulder to the other hip. That's what I do and it's very handy for the dog park.

u/jenroberts · 9 pointsr/AmItheAsshole

You're NTA OP, but you should consider getting either vest or leash cover that says "do not pet" on it. Something like this-

Canine Friendly Bark Notes Patch for Collar or Leash https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JCKRX5S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1KxuDbCY1TD7F

u/g_borris · 8 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

You need this kind of harness. The leash attaches in the front of their chest and as soon as they pull they get turned around. My dog stopped pulling completely the first day. The only drawback is you have to watch the leash a bit more and keep them from stepping over it, but its well worth it.

u/Chempy · 7 pointsr/funny

You don't even need to do that now. Just go to Amazon and buy a harness that says "Support Dog"

Done.

u/SpoonThief · 6 pointsr/legaladvice

Just going to add a link to the ADA website's brief Service Animal overview and relevant section:

>Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls.

Literally anyone can go online and buy a vest that says service dog. The same goes for any online "registry" of service animals. They and the dumb cards they give out have no legal standing with the ADA.

u/alf3311 · 6 pointsr/dogs

You don't need any certification to be a service dog as long as the dog is trained for a specific task that is directly related to the person's disability. Just being well-behaved or an emotional support animal is not the same thing as a service dog.

If or when you feel that your dog meets that criteria, I would just buy a service dog vest and move on with your life.

Fun! I'll let you know some of my dog gear, but your preferences and dog will be different.

I usually bring three different leashes with me, depending a little on where I'm going. She can't really be off leash, so I take a 30 ft line to give her space to wander or splash in the river on a break. If the trail is too busy or the hike is a pretty short one, this often gets left behind or never used.

A basic 15 ft leash is perfect for hiking with her. It gives her a bit more space, but isn't long enough to cause much trouble getting wrapped around things, and I can easily pull her closer to me when I need. I tied a couple knots in it for easier grabbing and holding at different lengths. I can also use a locking carabiner (I always have a couple on hand) to attach the handle to my backpack for hands-free.

I also love my Tuff Mutt hands-free waist leash. It has two handles if I need to hold her closer, and I really like the bungee. The only downside is that it's a bit heavy for a leash, but I find it's worth the weight, and I'm almost always just doing day hikes so it's fine. I don't know really know how it compares to other hands-free leashes though since it's the only one I've used.

I recently got a Ruffwear Front Range harness for hikes. It is the only harness I've been able to put on her, so I really can't compare much. Seems to fit her comfortably and works well as a back-clip harness. I haven't been able to use it as a front-clip without it sliding around too much. But I don't really need the front-clip when hiking, so I'm pretty pleased with it overall. If my dog wasn't so finicky about harnesses, I'd be trying other options though. You might prefer one with a handle, I've heard good things about the Ruffwear Webmaster.

I currently have an Outward Hound travel bowl for water, but I'm not a huge fan of it. My dog doesn't always drink all the water I pour, so then I've wasted water. And I either have to put a wet bowl back in my bag or clip to the outside and hear the annoying swish of it rubbing against the bag. It's not a big deal, and it works, but I'm eyeing one of these instead.

Happy hiking!

u/RedHeadedBug · 6 pointsr/TalesFromRetail

Nothing wrong with them other than the fact that 90 percent of the people who want them use them in dangerously wrong ways; having it far too low on the neck to be effective and having the chain facing the wrong way where it easily gets stuck and can injure the dog. They think it is just a cure all for pulling and that it is okay to just leave them on all the time and it isn't going to be dangerous. That's why I say only to ask about them if you know how to use them or have a trainer who is going to show you how. Pinch collars on the other hand. I hate them with a passion. I wish we didn't sell them at all. In the seven years I have worked pet retail I have worked with 15 different trainers and not one of them would ever recommend a pinch collar because of how dangerous they are to use if you don't know what you are doing.

Edit: this is a pinch collar if you havent seen one before.

After having had my seat stolen, I used a seat leash (something like this) to make sure it never happened again. When I put the saddlebag under the seat, I just ran the seat leash through the straps to secure it as well. Two birds, one stone, and all that.

u/trulyunruly · 4 pointsr/puppy101

Have you looked at the harnesses that attach at the front of the dog's chest? That way, when they start to pull, they are turned back towards you. She’s going to be a sad girl for a couple weeks, but she’ll bounce back just fine. Be very diligent with the medication, keep her cone on, and be sure to strictly adhere to the warm/cold compress cycle. It will greatly help reduce swelling and fluid build up. Make sure she has a comfy bed to lay on and maybe consider raising her food/water bowl so she wont have to struggle to bend down to it. Last and most important, do not hesitate to call your surgeon/vet clinic if you think something is wrong. Better safe than sorry. Good luck!

u/potatocharlie · 3 pointsr/dogs

I have this harness. You might want to wait for a sale though. I paid half that price when I bought it a little over a year ago.

It's well worth it. In the winter, we use it every single day. It lasts about two weeks on one charge when we use it every day from 1-3 hours each night. It's easy to recharge, durable, and water resistant (worn it in the pouring rain with no problems). Although it's more of a lightweight vest than a harness, and I don't typically use the clip. It fits pretty well on top of other harnesses.

Gotta see what the puppy likes. Mine, liked sitting in my lap and hanging out the window so... I got him a car seatbelt which clips into the frame and not the buckle that goes into the seatbelt end. So he can safely Hang out the window in the backseat without having to be in my lap or hold his leash. Also he's getting bigger so it was getting hard to drive with an Aussie on my lap. I have a waterproof seat cover and this beauty which has made my life so much better. Especially for wet dogs.

Benson is greying a bit so his coat is not near as dark, but he still disappears in the night. I started using these.

u/samcbar · 3 pointsr/Portland

First: Do Pack out your dogs shit. This bag holder is fantastic. It velcro's to the leash and doesn't flop around like the ones that clip on.

It depends on how busy it is for me personally. I prefer not to have my dog on a leash, but I always have it with me and recall him when others are near. I do not allow him to go out of site and he is trained to follow me.

I try my best to pick hike that are not popular, and I usually start hiking no later than 7 AM. I am almost always hiking 7+ miles as well. This combination of factors limits people on the trail. If it is too busy on a certain hike and I still want to hike it I will leash him.

I recommend for frequent hikers to get a 12' leash. The standard 6' leash is often a bit short for hiking in places with rock climbs or

It is 100% inexcusable to not have your dog leashed in the city and probably any hike within a 1 hour drive.

u/tessahhmacias · 3 pointsr/Dogtraining

If possible, the best possible solution is to just actually dog-proof your house, or at least an area you can section off. Otherwise, if you can afford one, I'd say get her a big outdoor kennel. If you're committed to her being tethered, at the very least get her a secure but comfortable harness, I use this one when I take my 70 lb husky out. Also get something with a locking mechanism (think like this) to use with any spring clips, because trust me, the dog can get it undone, mine has twice. I know how scary this is, I learned the hard way that my dog can also clear a 6' fence, I hope you figure something out!

We haven't gone on a really long walk with it yet, so I can't say for certain if it would irritate his skin after a while, but I have left it on him for a whole day and he didn't get a rash. So far I give it 5 stars.

u/Babyroxasman · 3 pointsr/OpenDogTraining

They should but since i'm not in Canada I can't say for sure. I own a prong from Petco and i've had it slip off multiple times before so I recommend not buying from Petco.

Here's a Herm Sprenger on Amazon Canada this is the type people recommend (with the little flat piece in the middle)

u/capncait · 3 pointsr/pitbulls

Keep on training, keep building his confidence! It's possible that he'll have some strange boundaries forever, but you can take precautions like getting him a vest that says DO NOT PET or a similar sign that attaches to the leash to prevent him from nipping anyone. I also like this bandana.

Congrats on how far you've come!

u/GrrrrrizzlyBear · 2 pointsr/dogs

Walking with the leash attached to the collar can be harmful. This is an interesting article with a lot of information that explains the potential issue that can arise from using a collar. A dog can receive neck injuries, ear and eye issues, hypothyroidism, malfunctioning in the forelimbs' nervous system, and behavioral problems. It concludes by urging dog owners to buy a harness.

Also note, many think that harnesses make dogs pull more, but this isn't true. The harnesses with an attachment point in the back are what do this because it gives the dog more leverage. If the only times your dog is pulling is when she panics, then using a back attachment point is viable, but you want sturdy harness with a grip then.

If you are interested in some alternatives (based on the information you've given), here are some I'd recommend:

Simple No-Pull Harness - I used one like this at one point. This one is really lightweight and non-obstructive. If you need a harness that doesn't restrict movement at all, this is the one. The attachment point in front is what makes it so the dog doesn't pull.

Gentle Leader - This isn't a harness, and it certainly isn't a muzzle, and it works well. I used to have a Boxer, and I used this for him. It stopped him from pulling, and if he did pull it just brought his attention back to me. Overall, it is useful and performs quite well.

RUFFWEAR Front Range - I use this one now and it is great. This one is fairly simple, it can get dirty if you go through a lot of water, mud, or the like, but mainly performs well. It has attachment points on the front and back, reflective trim, can be hand washed, and has a neat little pocket where you can attach ID tags. Plus it has a good amount of padding that makes it comfortable.

RUFFWEAR Web Master - This is one I have also used and it has done a lot for me, so I may be biased, but is a wonderful harness. I mainly use it for hiking only because there are too many noises in the neighborhood that could spook him (thats's where a front attachment comes in handy) My boy, Odin, doesn't pull much when we hike, so I can get away with the no front attachment point. It has three straps instead of just two, reflective trim, can be hand washed, and has a really sturdy handle, but it doesn't have the little ID pocket like the Front Range (not a big deal though). The handle is what is unique for this, you can use it to lift your dog (especially when hiking) or just hold them still. I also have a nervous dog, and sometimes if he gets spooked I will use this to hold on to him and calm him down.

Honestly, my favorite brand is RUFFWEAR because of their harnesses and all the other gear and toys they have, but Gentle Leaders and that Simple No-Pull are both good options instead of a collar.

u/Tycho_monolith0 · 2 pointsr/basset

I use this exact harness on Carly

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00URW5CTK/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1509640479&sr=8-6&keywords=dog+harness&dpPl=1&dpID=51DXOKMV6vL&ref=plSrch

Please be aware that she is able to slip out of it too. The key for me is to be aware of this tactic and eliminate it. Whenever she gets spooked and starts to reverse away from the leash to slip out I take the slack out of her leash, stand directly next to her forcing her to walk at my side keeping the leash taunt and directly over her shoulders. This does not hurt or choke her as the tension is placed at her chest. Once she has calmed and begins to obey I slack the leash and allow her to walk around and sniff as we go.

I'm no dog trainer but it works for me. Hopefully someone with more experience might chime in. Good luck!

u/ladybessyboo · 2 pointsr/pitbulls

This one! The front clip style allows much greater control, which is a godsend for a super strong pitty prone to leash pulling.

u/Pocket_trick · 2 pointsr/reactivedogs

Thisis the one I have. The handles are slightly padded which made it less painful when he used to really pull when I first got him.

u/winning-colors · 2 pointsr/reactivedogs

I treat my dog whenever we encounter another dog, but we're at the beginning of our training (just rescued him in May; got behaviorist last month). We avoid other dogs too. He does have a [Ruff Wear No Pull Harness] (https://smile.amazon.com/RUFFFWEAR-No-Pull-Harness-Tillandsia-Purple/dp/B01MY7VUXU) which makes it a lot easier and I don't worry about choking him. He's also not a big dog (beagle-lab mix; about 30-35lbs depending on how many treats he's had!), but he is very food motivated. We work on sit & "look at me" when there are no dogs around (when walking off peak times) and I give him a training treat instead of a high value treat. I do second someone else's comment about muzzle training because it will give you peace of mind.

ETA: Apollo is adorable! He looks like a cuddly guy :)

So, you're looking for a collar that doesn't use a quick release buckle and a hands free type leash without the talan/lobster claw clasp?

How about a martingale collar. They can be somewhat difficult to get on and off and shouldn't be left on when the dog isn't supervised. Or a buckle collar. This might not be a good idea though if your dog doesn't like the collar to be messed around with since you would need to buckle it every time.

Is there a reason you dont like harnesses?

u/Brute238 · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

There are harnesses that have messages on them. I would assume one would prompt someone to ask permission.

Yes.

Although, if you take a look at the mechanism this type of collar employs, I wouldn't default to this type of collar for your pet at first. Exhaust other options first. These are usually used with big, burly, and hard to control dogs until they start to learn. Once they are trained, the collar is replaced with a regular one. It's a short-term piece of equipment intended on helping correct serious pulling and other "lunging" types of behaviors.

u/garuba2 · 2 pointsr/scuba

We use a 1/2" polypropylene rope to hang a dozen bottles at a time. I use this leash to hang my own tanks when not on the boat with the rope.

I like this because it has two loops and I don't use the clip at all. I feed the leash through one loop and hang it over the side then hang the bottles from the loop at the bottom.

u/buildingbridges · 2 pointsr/pitbulls

I volunteer at a shelter and we use the Freedom no pull harness for dogs still learning leash manners. I use one at home with my own dog too and love it.

u/panniculus · 2 pointsr/dogs

Martingale collars are generally regarded as one of the most secure-- They are recommended even for sighthounds that tend to have necks thicker than their heads. But they shouldn't be left on indoors because they're a greater strangulation hazard than normal collars.

They also make collars that are designed to just keep tags, that will break if too much pressure is applied. They're called tag collars or breakaway collars and can be left on a dog at all times. But they shouldn't be used to attach a leash.

u/rajrdajr · 2 pointsr/BAbike

Option 3, sans the back stop, sounds a lot like a bike seat leash. I've used one as a helmet lock on occasion by pushing the end loops through helmet vents and then putting the u-lock through the loops.

u/Kaylala_ · 2 pointsr/reactivedogs

It’s a metal collar with “spikes” on it that are rounded off so they won’t damage the skin and injure the dog. When you pop on the leash to correct a behaviour, it creates a more direct pressure than a flat collar would, making the dog less likely to keep pulling. Many people say it simulates the bite of a mother dog correcting behaviour.
I know “spikes” sounds scary, but it is actually far safer with a dog that pulls or is reactive because on a flat collar they will keep pulling and can cause serious damage to their trachea. The prong prevents this.

Lol yes, I have one of those Houdini Huskies! I recommend the ruffwear web master harness. We've been using it for almost two months now and my husky hasn't been able to slip out of it. It's a bit expensive but it's an investment I definitely don't regret. Now I feel 100% confident that my dog is safe and I can maintain control in situations where he gets too excited and would normally escape other harnesses we've tried.

https://www.amazon.com/RUFFWEAR-Master-Harness-Blue-Medium/dp/B01MY7UNFY

If your dog can also slip out of collars, then I recommend using a martingale (limited slip collar) when you're not using a harness.

u/Neener216 · 2 pointsr/dogs

Much depends on the size of your dog, so make sure whatever you get is appropriate if it's weight-rated. I like this one for my 60-lb. pup.

If you possibly can, pair it with a crash-tested harness, like the Sleepypod Clickit - they're pricey, though. In any event, the seatbelt adapter should only be used with a harness, not a collar. I keep the harness attached to the adapter all the time, and just put my dog in it when we're driving.

I really don't know much about leashes, sorry! I've always used harnesses on them, specifically this harness https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0085XOHDU/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_xGp8tb0N948RG that comes with its own double-pronged leash. Before that, I just used cheap generic leashes because where we live, they are off leash 95% of the time when in public.

Edit: I linked the wrong thing, this one doesn't come with the leash. But yeah, the freedom No-Pull Harness is what we use and it has its own type of leash.

u/badlcuk · 2 pointsr/Dogtraining

I would say "My dog is controlled, yours is not. I am protecting your dog." and walk away, sheesh. While usually I recommend the yellow-ribbon you may want to make it more blatantly obvious with a Caution style label on your dog/dogs collar/leash/harness--I do hate to do that to the dog but apparently the people in your area area just awful.

My dogs can slip the Front Range type harness if they panic. Scares me silly although so far they just stand there waiting to get dressed again.

The stinker now wears the Ruffwear Web Master that has an extra strap behind the rib cage. The packs the company makes are based on this harness as well. I'm sure there are other harnesses with that third strap and probably ones with that handy chest ring as well.

Thankfully I havent had to deal with this as if anything we wish our dog would vocalize more. But they also make citronella anti-bark collars which releases a citronella spray which dogs typically do not enjoy the smell of if you dont want to go the static route

Start with a two week shut down. It's hard to tell anything until they've settled in.

She's food motivated and you can use that to help train her. In the mean time, no eating in front of her. Feed her separately from your other dog. Spread her food out on a cookie sheet or get a slow feeding bowl to slow her down. Break up her food into smaller portions and feed her throughout the day. Add low calorie, real food to her diet for bulk. I add almost all kitchen trimmings to my hungry boy's bowl. Broccoli stems are a favorite. Dogs not fed consistently can develop an obsession for getting food since they don't know when they'll get another meal. Being alone in the basement, maybe feed sporadically, probably bored and ignored is going to have leave their marks on her behavior. They can be overcome, but not in a week. By feeding her more often the hope is she starts to realize food is plentiful. I have two dogs with polydipsia, which is the water version of obsession over food. Small amounts all the time helped them.

She's a lab and you have a rabbit. Trouble brewing. I'd love a cat, but prey drive is a real thing and my dogs have it. I'm not sure it can be overcome. You should always keep them safely separated. You might want to look into x-pens to keep them both safe. Amongst my dog friends we call it living in a gated community. Baby gates and x-pens to keep animals separated. Not bad once you're used to it and figure out the system that works for you.

Barking is tough. We tried a citronella bark collar with moderate success. Once he learned that it only released the scent every couple of minutes he'd bark, wait till the collar went off and then bark for two minutes waiting for the next shot. Might be my fault since it worked great at first. Never really read how to use one properly. The sonic devices didn't work at all. If he barks he's put into a time out. If he's quiet when he'd normally bark he's given a treat and time outside. He's barking is greatly reduced, but it's part of who he is and I don't think will ever go away entirely.

Give her plenty of space when she eats. Don't feed her at the same time as your other dog. She should eat while alone. No bones or toys while people or your other dog is present. Set her up to succeed.

You might want to look for a behaviorist to help with the resource guarding.

Yep, I had to get a shock collar for mine because she would wake up the entire neighborhood. Mine was too strong though and she would jump when it shocked her and it broke my heart, so I got her a spray collar instead that just sprayed annoying citronella and made her stop.

Both definitely made her learn pretty fast, and even just holding the collar up like I was going to put it on her would immediately make her stop barking. Only issues with the spray collar, was when she was barking at other dogs, she would spray them in the face too haha

We have had it about a year and it's great! Use it every day. Just make sure you measure closely for proper sizing and fit

I would highly suggest adding a seatbelt climb to any dog harness for ride safety.

No offense but maybe user error? In the video I linked, the dog had a harness like that on and it did nothing to control his behavior. Then the trainer put on the pinch collar and gave corrections, the dog immediately started walking with him correctly. Perhaps you installed the prong collar incorrectly or did not correct with it in the right way. A lot about dog training is about correcting owner behavior too lol

Here are some reviews on one of the most popular pinch collars out there. The very first review talks about using it to train a 90lb pitbull and a 120lb sheepdog:

This is the collar I got for Hunter when he was 4 months old. I think in the 8 months since, he's only had the shock (static pulse) three times ever. I haven't even had to charge the collar for the last 6 months or so. If I ever see him gear up to bark, I hold up the collar and he pretty much submits right away.

This collar is very good.

It's from Icefang he's wearing a small. It's been pretty great only gripe is it's kinda heavy. We get cold winters here in NY so it works. I will attach the amazon link below. I will say though my friend has one from https://kiloninerpets.com/ which is a bit lighter and more breathable but also more than twice the price.

For neighborhood walks I use pockets or sometimes my little cross-body purse for my cell phone and keys, and treats. Her poop bags are on the leash, I used to have this bag holder which is great because I could also have a handful of treats shoved in there without them falling out (the fabric fold vs metal eyelet keeps them in), but I made an oopsie and left it on the leash which I tossed in the back seat of the car with her and she chewed it open to get the treats. I want to order another though because it was super nice to know I'd always have treats with me just in case.

For hiking or longer training walks, or class I have this fanny pack which I LOVE because it has so many compartments. I can put poop bags, two or three different types of treats, my cell phone, keys, money/cards, water, snacks for me, and a collapsible water bowl, along with our favorite training toy which is a ball tug. It also has a look to attach the leash to so I can be hands free. I highly recommend it, even if you look like a big dork wearing it.

Noxgear Lighthound LED vest for nighttime walkies. Available in small, medium, and XL. Go figure large is sold out (that's the size I need).

u/chi_lawyer · 1 pointr/AmItheAsshole

Presumably they can read, though. Maybe something like this as a compromise? https://www.amazon.com/Canine-Friendly-Notes-Patch-Collar/dp/B01JCKRX5S/

Lead length is something I wouldn't expect a non-owner to pick up on.

You should consider a muzzle for areas in which children are present and you may be distracted (which it sounds like happened here, given the lead length).

I recently bought this harness and have used it quite a bit since ICEFANG Small Dog Molle Harness,K9 Working Dog Tactical Vest,No Pulling Front Clip,Metal Buckle,Hook and Loop Panel, Easy Put On Off (S (22"-27" Girth), CB-Metal Buckle) ... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078N3HXTL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DeKsDbWJAZ589
It’s pretty awesome as it has the metal buckles up front and it hugs his chest rather than his neck, so no choking and more leverage. It seems to be pretty strong as well and has a nice sturdy feel to it when he does tug every once in a while. Overall i highly recommend it!

I have this harness from Noxgear for my dog and it's amazing! Waterproof and the charge lasts about 12 hours. One of my favorite dog products. It's a little pricy but imo worth it. On my dog its lightweight, but idk for a little dog. The battery pack isn't heavy but I don't know if it's sized down for the smalls.

I was going to suggest the Illumiseen collar/leash but see you tried it. Shame it was too heavy!

Is this the same harness? Did you get a medium size for your whippet? What is better about the three strap one? sorry for the questions! Thank you.

Something like this: Anti-Bark Spray Collar

The collar sprays a strong citrus smell towards their snout which they will find slightly unpleasant. This causes them to make the correlation that if they bark, the room will smell bad. They recommend putting the collar on the dog for 24-48 hours beforehand to get them familiar with it (so they don't associate the smell with the collar). It was extremely effective and I haven't had to use it ever since the first week I used it.

u/Dragojustine · 1 pointr/Dogtraining

These are beautiful! Love the colors. Considered blue?

It looks like the small collars have a ring opposite the buckle to clip a leash but the bigger ones don't- any reason? I love the back of the neck d ring.

Considered trying a double handle leash? I don't know the real word for it, but where there's a six foot leash and another little handle right by the dogs collar. Like this : https://www.amazon.com/Max-Neo-Double-Traffic-Reflective/dp/B019YPYG4W#immersive-view_1567638926543

You've got great photography on the site, very nice looking.

Lol, I tried that with my sneaky kitty. She did the classic side flop and refused to move. I sat next to her or moved her to the part of the yard that she always slinks towards. I gave up and didn't have the patience to continue. I bought a cheap harness and leash. My cat learned to twist out of hers eventually. I recommend a comfortable, sturdy harness.

Hug-a-Dog are awesome, and hugely popular:
https://www.dachshunddelights.com/Hug-A-Dog-Harness_c_60.html

For hiking & daily use, we prefer a loose-fitting Martingale collar like this one.

u/what_a_cat_astrophe · 1 pointr/nonononoyes

It might just be hard to get the leash unhooked from the collar when the elevator is pulling it against gravity so hard. Throwing your weight on it is gonna help the initial tugh on your pooch but at some point you'd have to stop the thing.

I guess ideally you'd have some sort of collar you could just yank right over their head like one of these bad boys, but I'm sure not every dog's head is small enough to slide out without unclipping theirs :/

u/Mythezza · 1 pointr/puppy101
  1. Erase the retractable leash. Get a six-foot nylon leash. (You can get a 15 or 30-ft one later when you start working on long-leash training.) Make sure you remove the retractable leash. Retractable leashes aren't leashes. They're terrible accidents waiting to happen.

  2. Nature's Miracle Laundry Boost! I love all their products, but you will at some point have to wash rags and bedding. I have also started putting some in with gym clothes, grungy cleaning clothes, my barn coat, smelly bath towels, etc. It's an AMAZING PRODUCT. It got stains out of my barn coat I thought were permanent.

  3. At least one treat ball (we currently have three in rotation). Duncan gets all his meals in them these days.

  4. Kongs! Kongs are great, we have like FOUR of them in rotation, at least 2 with a little filling in the freezer at all times, especially as he goes into a teething phase.

  5. A martingale-style collar, like this one https://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-Martingale-Collar-Medium-Red/dp/B000JD1PUW These are ideal because the pup cannot back out of it if he spooks. (I've also found that you can find really NICE, unique handmade ones. I got one for my girl dog last year at our local specialty store, purple (boyfriend's favorite color) with snowflakes (we love winter), gorgeous construction and quality. And the proceeds supported a local rescue.)

I wouldn't spend too much money on toys yet. You will want to see what his habits are before you really indulge. (E.g. we found out on day 1 that Duncan is a rope shredder when he went after our older dog's rope tug. He can't have rope toys, and I'm glad we didn't buy any new ones.)

    Good luck!

We got a buddy for our dog, now they are the best of friends and much happier. But...THE BARKING. We finally caved in and tried [this] (http://www.amazon.com/SportDOG-Rechargeable-NoBark-Control-Collar/dp/B00173CWDW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1419175679&sr=8-2&keywords=no+bark+collar). Works like a charm. They are as happy and playful as ever, but quieter.

Get a cable long enough to run under the seat too or get a little seat cable to attach to your u lock. Those work great for locking the helmet there too.

u/FlameOnTheBeat · 1 pointr/forwardsfromgrandma

It's on Amazon so it doesn't need to be a SWAT dog.

u/The_Cruzanator · 1 pointr/UCDavis

Everything the rest said PLUS if you have a nice bike/bike seat get a thin cable lock to run down to the rest of your lock setup, to make it harder than a few turns of a screw to take your seatpost. Thin cable found here (because I ain't good at that whole hyperlinking words thing): https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Bicycle-Security-24-Inches/dp/B000RY61F2/ref=pd_sim_468_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=S97ZZX7WM6MHZFNP2VQ0

I understanding have a preferred harness

Try a leash wrap that can also go over the clip on some harnesses, or around the dog’s collar.

Here’s one option , and another.
