A basic gun safe like this is ~$50.

It won't stop a determined criminal and a reasonably creative teenager could probably get access to it's contents with a bit of time but they will stop any toddler from getting access.

Jesus Christ people it's not hard. I have one for my handgun and keep my long guns locked with bolt locks AND they're in a safe. If you have kids you cannot keep a gun just lying around for instant access. Hell even if you don't have kids I wouldn't suggest it.

u/instanteggrolls · 34 pointsr/CCW

Like you, I'm not going to break any lawful no-carry laws. I blow past "No guns allowed" signs all the time because in TX we are not obligated to abide those postings unless they fit the designated signage laws. But when it actually matters (like going into a school or post office), I want to lock it up in the car.

I use a small safe with a cable that is attached to anchor points under the driver seat of my vehicles. Yeah, it's not going to stop any would-be thieves with a set of bolt cutters. But it will keep your standard smash-n-grab type criminals from getting it. And at the end of the day, if my gun ever does get stolen, I at least want to be able to tell the police that my gun was securely locked in a safe and not just rattling around in my glove box.

Obviously you could go the more hardcore route and have a more expensive safe installed in your console or bolted securely somewhere else. But for my usage, that'd be overkill.

Edit: I think these are the ones I have.

Thats why its useful to lock your door from the inside. You can use addition locks like this or just a chair wedged under the handle.

www.amazon.com/Rishon-Enterprises-Addalock-1-Piece/dp/B00186URTY/

It takes about 30 seconds to pick the lock on even high end dead bolt locks. Consumer grade door security is garbage.

Here is someone using two bobby pins in less than a minute.

You can make bump keys, electric lock picks, manual picks, etc, etc. The locks on your door mean nothing to someone who understands how basic they are.

If you suspect someone is entering your house like this you can set traps to detect them. Place some small pieces of dust or "trash" like paper in windowsills where if someone came in and out they would disrupt it. Remember or write down the exact positions of these items. Similarly, when you leave your house reach inside the door and place a small piece of trash right behind the door so if its opened the trash will be blown or otherwise moved from the position you remember placing it in. Carefully open the door and check your trap when getting home. They might see the trap but it doesn't matter, they already triggered it and you will know no matter what that someone was there.

>I keep a metal baseball bat by my bed now and I will use it.

Make sure you know how to swing it well. If I saw someone with a bat it wouldn't really make me hesitate and in fact would just make me think they were focusing too much on the bat as a useful weapon when its really not, especially inside a house where you'll almost always not have room to generate power.

I would suggest a Ruger .380 LCP loaded with high quality ammo kept in a fingerprint locked safe. Total cost is under $500.

Make sure you bolt the safe down so your children don't get any ideas later on in life. Also, make sure you teach them gun safety before they're teenagers. The four rules. Treat all guns as if loaded. Never point a gun at something you wouldn't accept being destroyed. Know your target and what is beyond it. Finger off the trigger/out of the trigger gurd at all times until you want to shoot.

A firearm with a cable lock through it is not readily available.

Personally, I stage my AR empty chamber, bolt forward, safety on. One yank on the charging handle and I’m ready to rock. But then again, I have no children in the house and all who live here are trained in the use of the gun.

If you want to lock and have it readily available perhaps something like a ShotLock AR Vault is up your alley.

He doesn't need 3 loaded handguns for home defense.

Hornady makes a pretty good automagic safe which will pop open with an RFID card on his keychain, wallet, or on a bracelet. Or he can mash a couple fingers and it pops open.

Put it on the night stand with ONE loaded gun inside for when kids are over, put the other guns in a larger safe or somewhere inaccessible.

I have a 15 month old who likes getting into stuff, and that is how I keep him out of my carry guns.

My shotgun stays in a high place.

My other tens of thousands of dollars in guns stay in a real safe in the bottom of a lake.

Clackamas Country Sheriffs range has good training available.

For just going out and shooting, North Fork Wolf Creek Road out past Timber on Hwy 26 is a good spot.

Getting a membership at Tri County is worth it if you actually shoot on a regular basis.

As far as storage, if it's just the one gun, There's an Amazon Basics safe that's surprisingly good and if you wait to catch it on sale you can get it for around $35

u/Ski_3143 · 8 pointsr/legaladvice

This is more gun owner advice than legal advice, but I would recommend switching to glaser safety slug ammo and a fingerprint safe like this one. http://www.amazon.com/BARSKA-Opening-Biometric-Fingerprint-Safe/dp/B004FO37AC

As for legal advice I think you're probably good since no one seems to have reported it.

Amazon and other websites show it is normally ~$80, seems to be identical to a lot of other "brands" that have a model with very similar hardware. Anyway, seems like a decent deal for a first quick-access gun safe.

Walmart apparently had the same deal, now out of stock.

Home Depot - $90

Wayfair - $84

Identical Model by "Goplus/Costway?" - $58

You can get a solid mechanical safe that can be bolted directly to the wall for about $120. There is more than enough room inside for any of the firearms being recommended here and it is a simple 4 button combination to open so it can be quickly accessed in an emergency while still being safe enough to prevent unwanted tampering.

u/fnh184 · 7 pointsr/EDC

Unless somebody has bolt cutters or a dremel they aren’t going to be able to get through the steel cable quickly. I take it out of my car when I’m at home. It’s on me unless I’m in a gun free zone. Pretty small window of opportunity to be stolen. If the car is stolen I’m SOL.

Something like this.

SnapSafe Treklite Lock Box - XL, Key Lock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XRD61CC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rn67BbAQ4D3E5

u/unexpectedraisins · 7 pointsr/CCW

I have this installed on the roof of my trunk for storing my CCW when I need to leave it in my car. It's actually bolted to the frame so I feel a lot safer about it than the lock boxes that just have a cable to wrap around the seat brackets.

The fact that it's in the trunk (and mostly out of sight even with the trunk open) is important: most smash-and-grab thieves don't even open the trunk, I can put it in valet mode and keep anybody I turn the car over to from even seeing that it's there, and it's a secondary locked container so it automatically complies with all but the most draconian storage/transport laws.

u/LockyBalboaPrime · 7 pointsr/CAguns

k, let me go though one by one.

>I have hollow points (Federal HST) filled up on both mags. (Is this a good idea, or does it eventually mess up the magazine springs?

Depends on who you ask. If you ask someone that understands basic metallurgy, no it doesn't mess them up. Puting springs in and out of stress are what wears them out - keeping them in a static state does not.

That said, environmental changes can induce/reduce stress and if they are already under stress it can over many years wear them out.

Bottom line, if you're in 90% of CA and you have basically two seasons - you can keep them loaded for a solid 20 years before needing to think twice about it.

>Should ammo be locked up as well? Currently have them stored loose in a small ammo can.

At their age, I would be more worried about the rounds being a choking hazard more than anything. As long as the rounds are in an ammo can that isn't something a small kid can open or they are in a closet they can get in, you're good. Once they are older it just depends on the kids and their level of dumbassness.

>biometric lock box

People try to pretend these are good but they just fecking arent. Batteries fail. Period. Don't depend on that crap.

This is hands down my recomidation

It won't keep someone dedicated out, the combination only has a little over 1,000 options so it isn't exactly super duper hard to brute force the code. But your kid would have to be motivated to do it.

You won't have to even think about that issue for another 12 or so years and until then, this is a top tier option for speed and reliability.

>If I need to get to my gun, I need to get the key first, which is attached to my car keys, open the box, insert a mag and chamber a round.

Personally, I store my HD gun "cruiser ready". Mag inserted, no round in the chamber. I don't ever want to fuck around with a mag in the middle of the night. Just grab, rack, go.

I like codes/combinations and not keys/rfid/biometrics because I want it to work every time and I don't want there to be a key somewhere for someone to find. I have the Hornady Rapid Safe and I really like it:

https://www.amazon.com/Hornady-Security-Rapid-Safe-Black/dp/B00I8FQ43G/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1495725960&sr=8-4&keywords=hornady+safe+rapid+safe

There's another version that just has the spring-assisted lid and not the built-in "holster" if you would rather it not present the gun.

u/Jamdawg · 6 pointsr/CCW

In a quicksafe next to my bed. It cannot be opened without either a key, a combination, or from my RFID bracelet I wear. It allows me the ability to keep the gun safe from the kids in the house, but also a quick way to access the gun in case of trouble.

Amazon price tracker confirms your observation that they were $60, now half price, average price over the product's history is $46.

I think these types of safes are effective if they are also decently hidden, as they can be defeated often within seconds (as I just did mine recently when the battery died and I couldn't find the key and found a youtube video that showed how to open it almost instantly), but can keep honest people honest and grubby kids hands off them if found.

Great channel for seeing how to quickly defeat most amazon safes:

I understand the perspective. I also know that kids can get to places you think they can’t.

Maybe at 3 she can’t but eventually she will be able to ge there. Do not instill bad habits in yourself. Keep it locked up all the time. Practice getting into your vault.

Buy this

It has a simplex lock that is secure and can be opened by feel in the dark. You said it’s up high so this is the horizontal opening one. They also have a top opening one of you prefer. Heavy gauge metal and can be bolted down.

Please do not leave your fault unlocked with kids around. One day you will forget to lock it back up. One day your kid will be able to get to it. That will be before you think.

Personally, I think leaving it in a car is a terrible idea.

But if you're gonna do it anyways, a solid safe that is SECURELY bolted down is better than shoved in a glovebox.

Also, that's just The first well-reviewed one to come up after a quick and dirty search. Someone with more experience at this... Situation... Can possibly chime in with a better example.

u/Sand_Trout · 5 pointsr/Firearms

Handgun safes aren't that expensive.

They are definitely cheaper than a trip to the ER.

u/AllanonKvothe · 5 pointsr/CCW

This is what I use for my nightstand pistol Amazon - GunVault

Works great, can open it in the dark and no finicky fingerprint scanner (Though they have one with that option). Goes great in a drawer.

This would work good under the bed or on a closet shelf.

As far as what to use for a rifle... something like This under the bed or behind the headboard maybe?

u/KingOG · 5 pointsr/CCW

I use almost the exact same thing just made by Hornaday

Hornady Security TriPoint Lock Box, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GVFD4DI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LrM5ybH8K9N9K

Anything that small and inexpensive isn't going to be super secure but it'll save you from a quick smash and grab and I don't often need to leave mine locked in the car and if I do it's during the day and not for very long.

u/JLARCAS · 4 pointsr/CCW

I bought this a few weeks ago.

This is the 2-pack version which is pretty awesome since both boxes use the same key (you get 2 keys per box, 4 total).

The box is pretty damn solid and works perfectly for what I need it for (same as you.. to keep in the car).

u/s0nspark · 4 pointsr/Glocks

If you are going to leave a gun in your car, unattended, it should be locked in a gun safe, totally out of sight.

You can get a decent pistol safe that you can secure in the trunk or, perhaps, under a seat for $30-50.

The Hornady one is particularly solid.

u/kapkapkapkom · 4 pointsr/CCW

Fort Knox or the Vline Brute is what I use.

Another option would be a concealment shelf from TacticalWalls

u/ReadBeens · 3 pointsr/CCW

I know this is different, but the gun safe I want is this one. It uses RFID bracelet, and you simply press one button to open it. It solves the problem that everyone has saying they dont use a safe because it takes too long to open.

> So the problem continues.

No, we make laws to fix the problem, rather than harass victims. Going after crime victims isn't fixing problems, but is instead making yourself feel better because you did something. Maybe we should do things to deal with the crime itself and not focus on the tool.

> Not sure if you’ve seen a gun safe, but those suckers aren’t easy to break in.

I've seen hundreds of gun safes. Many are cheap shit that are either easy to break into, or easy to simply steal and break in later. Do you think the poor are going to have the nice ones that "aren't easy to break in" or the shitty ones that are easy to get into. Here's one that Amazon is selling. I'd like you to note that even in the product images, it's just sitting on a cheap wooden shelf. Even if it's bolted onto that shelf, it's easily stolen. Then a criminal can take their time to open it at home.

Gun safes, absent large and expensive ones or ones very securely mounted (to concrete or thick metal), are mostly a safety device to keep kids out, not a significant theft prevention device. The criminal already overcame the lock on your door. The bolts into your wooden desk aren't going to be too much to overcome for them.

> with a statistic like 79% of guns used in crime being stolen or given to the perp, it seems like a starter.

Well, let's find a source. Here's a PBS article on this subject, and I'll quote from them:

> "Stolen guns account for only about 10% to 15% of guns used in crimes," Wachtel said.

The article keeps going to explain that the black market is where illegal guns come from, with the majority being sourced legally in the first place. (Edit: And another source on this: "Among prisoners serving time for a crime during which they possessed a gun, about half got their weapons either on the underground market (43 percent) or through theft (6 percent).")

I'll also note that you combined "stolen" and "given" as if we were talking about both of these, why is that?

> I’m far from anti-poor, but if you want a gun, that comes at a price.

Let me rephrase this to what it sounds like to me. "I'm far from anti-poor, but if you're one of the people that are most likely to need self-defense, I'm going to make it impossible for you!" That's how that reads. It sure seems like you supporting the poor with this kind of thing.

> A well-regulated militia of one requires training, which requires money.

One, everyone is part of the militia (this is the current law, though you can say that it's limited to those able-bodied from 17-45), and this doesn't require training. Two, training doesn't require a lot of money. Simply because you want to toss out buzzwords and define them as you wish doesn't change the law.

> To say that just anyone can have a gun without security or training seems against the second amendment.

Well, that's your opinion. It's never been interpreted that way by a court system, but it is still your opinion. Further, until this sentence, we weren't really talking about "without security" and we weren't talking about training. We were talking about safes and stolen guns. Why are you changing the subject?

> Let’s say there’s a government program that if you are part of militia it would put grants to help purchase training and security safes, would that be another step towards helping the poor defend their home but not add to the problem of their guns being used in crime?

If you want a program that lets anyone (because we shouldn't be discriminatory) get a grant for training (I personally think that this should be part of primary education in high school) and safes, then sure, let's do it.

But I'll note that you haven't fixed the problem of stolen guns at all, as gun safes are fairly small and easy to steal most of the time. Of course, as the article above says, this isn't the problem with guns. It's just an easy justification to invade gun rights.

u/trvekvltlaw · 3 pointsr/VanLife

FWIW, they do make small safes that can be attached by a steel cable to the frame of your vehicle. I wouldn't expect it to stop a prepared and determined thief, but it'll deter the overwhelming majority of smash and grabs. Not perfect but better than nothing for someone that really feels like they need a gun. They also make a shotgun version that locks just around the trigger/action of the shotgun.

u/dimview · 3 pointsr/guns

> I'd like to put it under the bed

V-line then, and replace tubular locks in the corners with Abloy.

u/blackofwhite · 3 pointsr/guns

Also, it has holes so you can secure it to a wall.

u/ScramblesTD · 3 pointsr/guns

If I'm reading it correctly, this one gives you the option of bypassing that electronic lock bullshit and just using a key.

Personally, I'd go with it based solely on that.

u/cbrooks97 · 2 pointsr/Firearms

If you're just worried about child-proofing, almost anything on Amazon will do. This is not electronic. I've got a similar one, and it works fine. But I've also got an electronic one (similar), and two years on the battery's going fine, and it's got a key backup.

u/TheBlindCat · 2 pointsr/guns

Foam cases breed rust and are less secure than a $100 Stack On cabinet. Another option is something like this if you're only going to buy one rifle (unlikely).

u/ryanmercer · 2 pointsr/latterdaysaints

> Link to your cheap option?

There's any number of manufactures that make ones like this https://www.amazon.com/SnapSafe-75211-Portable-Measures-Approved/dp/B00TSQP8ZE/

You're not forcing one open with just your hands, there's no way to grip it good to wrench it open.

  • First someone has to find it under your car seat

  • Then when they slide it out you don't have a ton of length on the cable, they might get the whole thing out from underneat the seat plus a few inches

  • They then need a pry bar or some other lever, or something to cut the cable with

All of this is going to take far longer than people spend on car smash and grabs, in broad daylight, in a church parking lot.

I keep one of these in my master bath to the plumbing and I've had one in my past 3 vehicles and have zero hesitation storing a weapon system in one when I have to go into somewhere where it is illegal to carry.

Yeah if someone has tools and is sufficiently motivated, they'll get into it just like with everything. In the typical 10-30 second smash and grab, no flippin' way.
u/scsibusfault · 2 pointsr/smallbusiness

> I suppose I should practice though

Yes, yes you should. It's good that they're in a safe since you've said you've got kids. You could perhaps look into one of the bedside safes that use biometrics for easier access, like a SpeedVault or a Hornady RapidSafe.

There's another one I can't find at the moment, but it mounts to any vertical surface, and pops the handgun up with the grip facing your hand, ready-to-grab.

u/JFred15 · 2 pointsr/CCW

I bought one of these, and it works quite well. Enough room for my gun (Glock 43) and a spare mag. It has removable layers of foam to increase the depth of the storage area so I am able to store the gun in the holster so I don’t ever expose my trigger, even when storing my gun. The plastic/rubber exterior is nice too because it is super strong, but non-slip and if it does hit something, won’t cause as much damage as a metal exterior. I ran the cable around the bars that hold my trunk on my car making it secure and easily accessible for storage/removal.

Edit: They sell different size ones to fit different storage needs. The XL is just what I have.

Everything after "https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077FJB2Y9" is unnecessary in an Amazon link. The junk at the end just tells Amazon who to pay for referring you to their site. PEW PEWWW

Under CA law:
If you leave your gun laying around and a child obtains your firearm and uses it, you will be convicted of a crime. This does not apply if your child breaks into your safe (seriously... here's a link http://law.justia.com/codes/california/2013/code-pen/part-6/title-4/division-4/chapter-2/section-25105).

I don't think CA has given us any requirements (i.e. thickness of metal, type of lock, etc.) to what 'locked container' means.

I would go with something that is fully enclosed, has a combo lock (so you don't have to find a key at 3AM), that your child can't realistically get into, and can be bolted to something.

Here are a few that I like.

Good question - I haven’t found a good solution yet. I was thinking something like this mounted in the trunk.
What are you trying to fit? My G43 just fits in the center console. Any of my full frame pistols have to go in a sleeve under a seat (for a short period of time only!) or in the trunk.
I built a custom amp rack under the parcel shelf and may mount of those safes to it if there’s space after my second amp is mounted.

One option: get this and this. Loop the cable around something solid (bed frame) and stick the case inside a bag that you lean against the anchor (bed frame). No one will see the cable or the box unless they move your bag aground. Won't stop a determined thief but they'll have to make a lot of noise and effort. Opening the box is fast if you know the code.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GFDSKY3/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

Here is his video, he rarely recommends a product (because most are shit) so if I were looking for one this would be the one I would buy.

Hey /u/LockPickingLawyer,

Thanks for making all these cool videos. I just wanted to share my appreciation for your work and your professionalism.

It's always enjoyable to watch you put your impressive lock picking skill to work.

I was wondering if you were planning on trying to defeat Gun Boxes/Safes. You have a series about gun locks but I haven't seen you tackle gun safes.

I recently bought the V-Line Brute and it seems very solid. I would be very curious to see you (or bosnianbill) try to defeat this gun safe, even with destructive tools.

The only flaw that I can currently see is the Simplex Lock with the low number of possible combinations. It is very solidly made. Once bolted down, I think power tools would be needed to defeat it.

Anyways, keep up the good work and thanks a lot for your contributions. And as always, have a nice day!

Get one of these.

empty mag, put it in the box separately. Also, just get the ammo box that it came with (Cardboard is perfectly OK). You also need to be able to lock the case. I recommend getting a box that can you can attach a steel cable and loop it to(something like this) either the structure of the suit case.

u/alaskaj1 · 1 pointr/CCW

I have a 10 month old and have similar worries.

I got a sentry safe pistol box for my bedside storage just to keep it away the little one. It is a quick access combo lock and has a key backup in case the battery dies or you forget the combo.

If I had the cash I would probably go with fort knox box for the pistol though, they seem to be highly recommended.

As for the rifle I have seen one or two like this that are quick access, wall mounted options.

u/ucemike · 1 pointr/guns

I've been looking at these. They have a key mode and a fingerprint mode.

Mostly because of kids and I want to have quick access to a loaded weapon incase of intrusions.

u/drebinf · 1 pointr/guns

Stackon PS-1520 or 520. I have a couple of them. Not for quick access because I trust electronic locks about as far as I can throw an M1 Abrams.

These are basic security containers, not real safes, but the steel is thicker than some of the light duty stackon long gun safes.

Those are shown as unavailable right now but I expect they'll become available soon. I paid about $115.

One thing that is worth considering for your husband is to carry a firearm while in the house. A comfortable OWB holster and a good belt places the loaded firearm in his direct control at all times. The other guns can then go into the safe.

If he's not inclined to do that for comfort reasons or just not wanting to carry in the house, there are numerous "quick access" vaults that can keep curious hands away without necessarily adding too much time for accessing the weapon. I would go for a mechanically actuated vault vs those electronic ones with buttons or fingerprint scanners. You don't want to be fumbling with electronics and sweaty fingers when time is of the essence.

Depending on the level of "readiness" that your husband wants to achieve, storing the firearms with loaded magazines but closed bolts/slides on empty chambers can add another layer of security/complexity towards discharging the firearms. Some may view it as a hindrance or something to forget in times of stress or injury, but it's worth considering all the options.

It's worth discussing with your husband the level of readiness he desires along with the element of risk that you both are willing to accept. Currently, it's pretty much grab-and-go from the closet. Does he move a gun closer to the bed when sleeping? If someone's trying to break in when everyone's around, is it a "honey go grab the gun" sort of situation? You already mentioned having to lock the bedroom door when family/friends are around. How does he feel about security when no one is home? While you live in a low crime neighborhood, most crimes happen during the day when most people are away. Also consider investing in upgraded/reinforced door frames, deadbolts, sliding doors, and windows. Those are elements that can buy you precious time in the hypothetical home intrusion to access the guns however they are stored.

Most importantly, make sure that you and your husband have a plan for such incidents. Make sure you know how to communicate with each other and have a plan for who goes where, does what, calls 911, etc. Might be worth stocking some basic first aid such as tourniquets and gauze as well.

Here are some mechanically actuated safes that seem to be relatively well-received:

Pistol shot-lock

AR-15 shot-lock

Here's an RFID vault

RFID Pistol

EDIT:
Here's some more mechanical vaults

ooo those might be the ticket. The Truck Vault ones are a little pricey but the Troy ones look pretty good. I was initially looking at this but none of the reviews are from people who have put it in a vehicle.

u/Seandavid010 · 1 pointr/guns

Yep. I've got the smaller version of this one (It opens from the front rather than the top) and it's outstanding. I cannot recommend it enough. $199 shipped from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Fort-Knox-FTK-PN-Personal-Handgun/dp/B0075QMCNK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1406919339&sr=8-2&keywords=Fort+Knox+pistol+safe

Hornady's Rapid Safe pops opens by waving a bracelet embedded with an RFID over a sensor. Note: I do not own this safe, so I can't vouch for it.

PROS: it takes less fine motor skills to wave a bracelet over a sensor than it does to punch a keypad.

CONS: it's expensive and still requires battery power, although it has back up methods of entry.

A simple Amazon Basics pistol box will run you about $60. Its what I use. I like it.

My nightstand box is a Vaultek. The Vaultek is better buts its also about $150 or maybe 115 for a refurb.

the vaultek

Bottom line: The vaultek is better but the Amazon is adequate.

Vaultek Pros:

Nicer fit and finish.

Better feeling buttons.

Slightly sturdier feel.

Buttons light up when you run your hand over them so its easy to see in the dark.

The corner hinge has a pass through hole to support a thick anchor cable.

Interior light.

Amazon Pros:

Half the price.

Basically, I chose the vaultek for the nightstand as something that looks good enough to actually have out on the nightstand where I have to see it daily (actually bolted in place). Also something I can depend on quickly, quietly rolling over and opening in the middle of the night.

The Amazon however, is just going to live in the trunk of my car, and its rare that I’d need to get into it that quickly. (Like you, I just need a safe legal way to store my ccw when my job or location requires me to de-gun).

Bottom line, in the trunk of the car, the amazons boxier look and slightly cheaper mushier feeling buttons don’t bother me for a truck safe.

Both good options, no reason to pay double for the nicer box if you never have to see it.

Assuming you plan to bolt it in, both boxes come with mounting holes.

Both will be adequate size. The vaultek (snugly) has room for my HK VP with WML and 3 spare mags.

The Amazon is even roomier a bit I THINK. It fits my ccw in the holster, spare mag in a carrier, and there’s plenty of room to spare.

I use this for a bedside safe. Quick & reliable, but a teenager could get in with enough time. Fort Knox Box.

u/pewpewadvice · 1 pointr/guns

Have kids, basically a state of California requirement, would secure to floor. Was looking at this safe or something like it. At 46lbs I don't think it's going to be moving from my closet, especially not if I secure it to the floor.

Granted, a tall cabinet isn't that much different, just the ones that don't weigh hundreds of pounds seem more filmsy than secure.

Update : got this. V-Line Quick Access Keyless Long Gun Safe (Black, 42-Inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000T2A6BW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wO.wxbTQ4WVB7

Tavor barely fits with optic on. But it won't fit if you have a light or something on the side rail. Too wide. Will post pics if there is interest

This isn't the exact one, but similar:

The one I saw was much less bulky...

Just google "AR15 Wall Safe" & you should find one to your liking.

These are pricey but excellent: https://www.amazon.com/ShotLock-Handgun-200M-Solo-Vault-Mechanical/dp/B00844HGVU

The cool thing is that this is 100% mechanical, so won't fail in a power outage or due to dead batteries! Or if there's an EMP.... one of the top reasons to own a gun.

I use this- very affordable and fits both wife and my pistols, together.

It's this safe. I can easily cut it open with a grinder, but I'd rather keep it working.

Rifle is my preferred tool. Pistol is for there’s someone already inside, rifle is for them beating on the door. I can use my pistol to fight to my rifle in a safe that uses a key. They also make quick access long gun safes. You can open this in 2 seconds or less: https://www.amazon.com/V-Line-31242-SA-Access-Keyless-42-Inch/dp/B000T2A6BW
