I have one of those. They used to sell them at record stores to hold CD's. Amazon has a similar one. I don't have a single CD but I still kept the plushie for the nostalgia.

u/dubrow_alert · 17 pointsr/Frugal

I recently threw out all of my DVD cases and put all of my DVDs into a a big CD binder similar to this and I haven't been missing the cases at all. If you don't mind parting with the cases, it's one way to free up a lot of space without having to build anything.

u/LKnodecaf · 14 pointsr/gamegrumps

Burgie is a CD case, you can make your own with [this case]
(https://www.amazon.com/Hamburger-Shape-Storage-Case-Bag-24-disc/dp/B0055X0W6Y) and googly eyes!

u/[deleted] · 12 pointsr/Ubuntu

You might want to consider just buying a few high volume CD/DVD binders. Maybe a couple of these. Even with the best software, DVDs rip/encode frame by frame. If each DVD is around 2 hours long, you're looking at 600 hours of ripping DVDs. If you spend all day, every day, just ripping DVD after DVD, it'll still take you almost two months. Of course you can walk away while a DVD is ripping, but DVD encoding will also most likely use well over 75% of your CPU cycles and in some cases, close to 100%. Which pretty much means you can't play video games, watch other movies, etc while they're ripping. Just doesn't seem worth it to me.

For reference, discarding took about 4.5 months in my 1400 sq foot home and two storage sheds. I have started working on deep cleaning, upgrading necessary yet ugly items, and storage/organizing. I expect this to take another two months. I am watching "Clean My Space" and "Home Organizing by Alejandra.tv" channels on YouTube now to help with the process.

I am trying to keep in mind getting products out of original packaging, if possible, to limit exposure to constant advertising in my home. I am choosing to spend quite a bit on higher quality products that I love and expect to last many years. Fortunately, I have a budget that allows for some luxuries.

Bedroom

I started with my closet and these great baskets from the container store http://www.containerstore.com/s/whitewash-rattan-bins/d?productId=10037633&q=Large%20Rattan%20Bin%20Whitewash. The closet has a built in shoe organizer and I used my label maker to indicate what style shoes go on which shelf – heels, sandals, sneakers, flats and boots. I also labeled the shelf for each basket. Clothes hangers are all white. They used to be all kinds of colors, and I realized that white is more calming. I am now using these for my socks and undies since konmari folding did not quite work for me on those items http://www.amazon.com/MIU-COLOR-Collapsible-Underwear-Organizer/dp/B009A3HTXY. The folding works great for most of my other clothes. I am still pondering how to organize the nightstand drawers.

Kitchen

I bought a couple of 10" bamboo lazy susans for keeping my oils and vinegars organized in my cabinets. I bought some refrigerator organization units from InterDesign and the Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce savers. I intend to get Oxo food storage containers for dry goods.
I upgraded to these measuring spoons http://www.amazon.com/Cuisipro-Stainless-Steel-Measuring-Spoon/dp/B00004SU1I and these measuring cups http://www.amazon.com/Sagler-Measuring-Piece-Heavy-duty-Stainless/dp/B00V5EFWTO.

When I was discarding in my kitchen I found I did not really love my dinnerware so I got this set http://www.amazon.com/Corelle-Coordinates-18-Piece-Dinnerware-Service/dp/B00R790CLY plus matching lunch sized plates. I love the simple clean lines and the durability of the product. I downsized from a 12 person setting to 6 and it is great.

Bath

Have not done much here yet. I don’t have much need for storage organization in the cabinets. Still considering what I want to do with the drawers. Right now the drawers are still organized with small cardboard boxes from Glossybox, a cut down cereal box, and an empty jigsaw puzzle box. I upgraded my plunger and brush to nice stainless steel containers, and got a toilet paper holder that matches them http://www.amazon.com/Home-Basics-Vented-Stainless-Toilet/dp/B00JB20IDW.

Laundry

I replaced my bulky plastic basket with this http://www.amazon.com/Bajer-Design-Marketing-5234-Basket/dp/B0010KZCFC. It now hangs on a Command Hook next to the washer.

Car

I have repacked the car kit and 72 hour emergency kits in these for my car and my son's car. ttp://www.amazon.com/TrunkCratePro-Best-Premium-Trunk-Organizer/dp/B01AHK0J9Y. We live in an area prone to natural disasters so I like to be prepared wherever we are. I bought a car trash container (http://www.amazon.com/Highland-1932600-Car-Trash-Keeper/dp/B0027QWNGO) and created a little kit in a ziplock bag in the glovebox with essentials. Also, found tissues in a round container that fits perfectly in the door cup holder. I also bought a set of matching reusable grocery bags (http://www.amazon.com/ReBagMe-Reusable-Grocery-Reinforced-Handles/dp/B00Y17OIR4) so I don’t have the mismatched set. Finally, I have these on order (http://www.amazon.com/Car-Hammer-Seatbelt-Emergency-Must-Have/dp/B00CB8WM2S). Not organization related, just something I have been thinking that I needed for safety.

Purse

I reassessed what is in my purse. I used a couple small cosmetics bags that I had on hand and now have many things I wished I had at various times. Everything is neatly organized and I know exactly what is in there and why I have it. Everything from safety pins, to pen and notebook (http://www.amazon.com/Marble-Composition-Books-Notebooks-Green/dp/B00WRDIS9I), to a tiny flashlight, a granola bar in case I am out and hungry, a tide stain remover pen, a tiny Band-Aid package, tiny measuring tape (http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-33-115-10-Foot-4-Inch-PowerLock/dp/B00009OYGH), my phone, my wallet, and my keys are always on the little hook. Not exactly Konmari minimalism, but those are all things that I wished I had at various times and I am happy that I will not be caught without again. It is a medium size purse, packed just right, with stuff easily accessible.

Home office

I have not done much there yet, but this drawer organizer is working pretty well http://www.amazon.com/Rolodex-Regeneration-Deep-Drawer-Organizer-21864/dp/B002JG48R4.

Command center

I am currently working on a “Command Center” to keep clutter off the kitchen counter. I have not purchased anything for that yet. I am writing down ideas, measuring, and considering products. http://thehappyhousie.porch.com/20-fabulous-command-centers-to-get-your-life-completely-organized/

Other random stuff:

I moved my CDs into a holder http://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-DVDW-92-Capacity-Classic/dp/B00005ATMD and they now live on a Command Hook in my car. For movies I transferred them to these Sleeves http://www.amazon.com/Atlantic-74604729-Movie-Sleeves/dp/B002JR2V7C and they now live in a small drawer in my living room. I tossed the packaging because it was bulky and does not give me joy.

I am using these in my linen closet http://www.amazon.com/Honey-Can-Do-STO-02986-Nested-Woven-Esspresso. This box for my jewelry http://www.amazon.com/Black-Leather-Jewelry-Travel-Case/dp/B0006JCGUM.

Not related to organizing, but I am loving these brushes for getting tiny spaces clean. So much better than an old toothbrush. http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Clean-Brush/dp/B003M8GMS6

If you made it this far, congrats. Something that I have noticed is that I can now shop with confidence, I can easily toss or donate the old unloved items, and I am organized enough to return those few items that don’t work as well as I hoped. My home feels much more open and inviting. I know where everything is and my clear vision is starting to come to fruition.

u/DVDJunky · 7 pointsr/dvdcollection

Gentleman states the following about his collection:

>I have entered 5,040 discs so far (from silent movies to the present), I have not entered my TV box sets - just movies. My photo shows some of the canisters I store my discs in (I have 65 canisters with 80 discs in each one). The canisters take up about 1/4 of the space the DVD boxes used to take up. I finally have room to grow!

He goes on to say that he throws away covers. Keeps liner notes (stacked on various shelves). And keep track of where each disc is at in an Excel file.

He buys the canisters from amazon and they hold 80 discs per cannister.

Personally, I think displaying a bunch of game and movies cases looks really tacky...
I know some people like to show off their collections, but from a design perspective, it's just not attractive to look at.
I've got a huge game and blu-ray/DVD collection, and I keep them all in attractive storage cases like these: Option 1 or these: Option 2.
Then you can create really simple Google doc that is basically an inventory of your collection to show what sleeve number every disk is stored in. Access it through your phone or tablet, and you've got a constantly up-to-date list of your collection. Much more attractive and organized.

u/IAmThe90s · 4 pointsr/dvdcollection

Very pleased with these. Will be buying more when I run out of space on the current one I just bought.

u/Chris_skeleton · 4 pointsr/dvdcollection

These are what I use. Also available in different quantities.

If going new, Fluance RT82 $299 for the optical sensor speed controlled motor for lower wow and flutter and speed variation specs than the many other new turntables for under $500. It also has auto stop and an external belt drive. Skip the older RT81 that does not have the speed sensor.

A later optional upgrade is an acrylic platter for around $99 as seen on the out of stock $499 RT85 when Fluance gets it in stock and starts selling it on its own.

Use the phono input on your Sony receiver or for a phono preamp upgrade with the remaining budget, try the popular Schiit Mani $129 or a Hagerman Bugle3 $189 (both have adjustable gain settings) besides many other options. Or if you DIY, Muffsy DIY Phono Kits.

Just a few suggestions. 1 your tv needs to go up a bit. I like this stand. I hate the tiny feet. It’s easy to attach. Universal Swivel TV Stand/Base Table Top TV Stand 27 to 55 inch TVs 80 Degree Swivel, 4 Level Height Adjustable, Heavy Duty Tempered Glass Base, Holds up to 99lbs Screens, HT04B-001 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H9PLP48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_q-J2Db2JB3PCE For the bed. Bed skirts don’t tend to work out. Use a fitted sheet instead. It’ll give a better look at a cheap price. If you decide to get a bed frame you could put your tv on the dresser. A shelving unit might help. I use boxes with lids to keep things uncluttered. FURINNO Turn-N-Tube 5-Tier Multipurpose Shelf Display Rack, Single, Light Cherry/Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FK57S2P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_QcK2DbB9YZPJ8 If you want a entertainment stand this would be reasonable. Furinno No Tools Tube Entertainment Center, Light Cherry/Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0083IYNSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_8dK2DbQJ2ZV0S the Furrino is lightweight so I recommend furniture anti tip straps. While these are listed for dvds they are good for organizing. Snap-N-Store DVD Storage Box, 6" x 8.25" x 16.5", Holds up to 26 DVDs in Cases, Black (SNS01524) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EFJY3U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_ChK2DbYPZ7H31 There are also these. Zinus Dawn 14 Inch Easy To Assemble SmartBase Mattress Foundation / Platform Bed Frame / Box Spring Replacement, Full https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R6OXIFC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_LmK2DbP1RHTQR if you add a frame be sure to measure. They can get tall fast. Something like this is nice but make sure you don’t tend to hit toes on the posts. If so many buy black pipe insulation from a hardware store that looks like pool noodles. Just some organizing suggestions to get started.

u/calorieOrion · 3 pointsr/VinylMePlease

I'm using these. They even fit gatefolds/doubles, although some are a bit tight.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DKNNCTL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/jazz_music_stopps · 3 pointsr/gamecollecting

I use these now. They have a nice weight to them and are stable. Little more $$$ though.

You can (and should) also anchor them too the wall, if you haven't already. I have one set left similar to yours and I ended up needing to that to be able to sleep at night.

u/DiggingNoMore · 2 pointsr/dvdcollection

I have two of these. Each one can hold like 200 discs.

Every disc comes out of its case (which goes directly into the recycle bin), and the discs are placed in CD sleeves in one of these boxes. One box is for TV seasons; one box is for movies. Both are alphabetized. I have no doubles and never will. I buy movies without the cases when possible.

u/SweetZombieJebus · 2 pointsr/hiphopvinyl

Any recommendations? There are a ton and none that cheap, but I’m still in need of some. Just want something that’ll fit all. Thinking of these

u/AutomaticExamination · 2 pointsr/DataHoarder

usually if a disc is rotten, it's unreadable throughout

if you just worry about a scratch, bad spot, ... you could just store several copies of your file on it

rot (from air) usually goes from outside in, so it affects the end of the disc first, so storing "just" 50MB is fine

rot (from sunlight) is everywhere, nothing will help you

DVDs last very long (I have 10+ years old discs that still read fine) if stored properly (not exposed to light or air, not bent or tossed as that damages the outer seal)... basically as long as you put them in a closed cupboard/drawer you're more or less fine, these open-air cd cases on the other hand are shit (e.g. don't use this https://www.amazon.com/Stackable-Clear-Plastic-CD-Holder/dp/B0000E1VRT - at least not out in the open - may be fine for commercial CD collection but not burned discs)

If you rely on DVD as a backup, and that's fine (besides tapes, it's the only thing that survives when the PSU blows a fuse), even if just for the most important data - expect to re-new every few years anyhow

----

> I feel that surely almost every DVD will be able to have 2% of it's data readable in 200 years if kept under not terrible conditions, right?

I don't think so. Well, the M-Disc makes such promise (which I don't believe), but regular ... no way. 10 years okay, 100 years nope, 200 years you're dreaming

point is, 10 years is good enough already. just make more copies

If you want to keep all of them, you could also consider one of those CD/DVD/BD Book-Like Cases. You throw away all boxes and just put the disks in it. You would still have the same amount of stuff, but it would take much less space and make moving it around a lot easier.

u/codenamegamma · 2 pointsr/gaming

the difference is, is that those are copies. just burn another one off and no harm done. if they get killed in a fire, or someone uses them as frisbees or coasters it doesn't matter as you can pickup a 50 pack of CD-R's and burn more.

now when your paying almost $60 a disc in most cases and put them in a pile thats just gore. i can understand having a lot of discs and not wanting to dig though a shelf or dozens of stacks of games, but at least spend the $30 and get yourself a book or something to store them in. then at least they are stored properly and your not putting tons of scratches in them just stacked in a pile.

I'm pretty sure it's just a photo storage box as it's the right size for storing 4x6 prints.
Here's something similar from B&H Photo

So for outer sleeves I use the Sleeve City Ultimate Outer 5.0 on my best records and the thinner 2.5 on everything else. I like them because they are super protective but also absolutely clear and doesn't obscure artwork. For inner sleeves I use the MoFi Original Master Sleeves. Hmm...inspire me to travel more...
I travel a lot anyways, but if I had to say one thing, it'd be this, which would let me bring along a ton more DVDs than I can at the moment.

If I win, thanks!! If not, congrats to whoever does :)

u/sambqt · 1 pointr/technology

She could try one of these. And buy her a stack of these and maybe a bunch of these, too. Tell her they take up a lot less room than the tapes and she can still label the cases. Maybe you can eventually get her to just connect a hard drive to her dvr and tell her it's still essentially a like physical copy, just on a more compact unit. If not, hopefully she's still happy with the dvd recorder.

If you want to keep the discs, you should be able to find a CD case somewhere. They still make those.

u/mynameislincoln14 · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

It is a walk-in closet. My idea is something similar to this, but due to the volume of discs, I was looking for something more cost effective. I also don't care for the binders; I prefer to keep the discs in their original packaging. I will take some photos tonight and post them on here to give you a better idea of what I'm working with.

I’ve bought so many different brands but I recommend these

u/AnalogVault · 1 pointr/vinyl

Has anyone used the Mofi Outer Sleeves for their collection? How do they compare to the other outer sleeves on the market, and are they high enough quality to warrant a $34.99 price tag?

u/gibba97 · 1 pointr/JuiceWRLD

My bottom right corner is a bit worn and the last 9 a little smudged but besides that it’s good condition. Just plastic outer sleeves so that the sides and edges don’t get scratched when storing them. They’re like these. Link

u/storunner13 · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

I often prefer listening to an entire album. It brings me back to the days of CD players (before mix CDs were the rage). You'd hop in a friend's car and sift through the giant book of cds to pick an album.

Plus--it helps tame the desire to just skip a song, hoping for something better.

u/Aperture_Kubi · 1 pointr/manga

Those look nice for the price.

I've been using these, a bit more expensive though.

The paper cover on the case still looks like it's in relatively good condition. You could get a blank Blu-ray case and then put the paper cover in that and it would look just fine besides that little corner but at least the spine would look good on your shelf and the case wouldn't be all cracked up

I have both 2 discs per sleeve, and 4 discs per sleeve (double that if I use the backside). Brand name is Case Logic. I didn't think it was that expensive: About 10 cents per disc: http://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-KSW-320-Capacity-Prosleeves/dp/B00025HIO4/

Nice I will. Would these be good?

I'm guessing you're choosing to keep them naked because the ones you have or have tried are a bit cloudy and don't show off the spines. I'd recommend checking out these Ultimate Outer 5.0 sleeves sleeves from Sleeve City. I have them on every record I own. I used to use the cheap cloudy ones, but the difference here is immense.

So more like this? I have one of those for my DVDs and it works fine. I just tried putting a few Vita games on as well, since I wasn't sure if the backing bar would reach on a Vita case, but the bar is low enough that Vita games don't go under. I really prefer the shelves myself, but Atlantic has media storage options in just about every configuration you could imagine.

I use Malko protectors from Amazon. 10 for $12. Fully inclosed with tabs. Cases have protective peel plastic as well. If you don't like the tab, it can be snipped off and be used as a closed flip case.

Do you have dvds? If you really like them and just dont like the space they take up, ditch the cases and put them in a binder like this https://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-DVDW-92-Capacity-Classic/dp/B00005ATMD/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=dvd+binder&qid=1571417949&sprefix=dvd+binder&sr=8-5

They make ones that look like books too if you want something more asthetic.

There is nothing much to take a pic of. Think of a bottom bookshelf filled with these with a little label on them from my Dynmo label maker marking which collection is which:

320 disc capacity * 4 = 1,280 disc capacity. Still room to grow. Everything is cataloged in a Google Spreadsheet so I know where to find everything.

Thanks! I thought about the binder/wallets but thought it would be too annoying to turn through. Here is the link for the one I own in case you were curious. I keep a Google spreadsheet with all the discs and their numbers and then it has a lever that you can move to that exact number to pick out a disc.

Are you talking about something like:

Case Logic CDE-24 24 Capacity Heavy Duty CD Wallet (Black)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00011KM38/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_ZN-dvb1E9S6Q9

Eight bucks on Amazon, prime shipping.

Edit: maybe you're saying the disc in the disc drive and a case for the console. I got nothing.

Chuck the boxes and put them in a disc wallet.
