I have a motion sensing light that illuminates the toilet bowl. It can do a full range of colors, but I have it be green so it doesn't completely blind me. Red is better for maintaining night vision, but a red toilet bowl is a little too spooky for me.

Edit: Here is a link to a light similar to what I have.

If you want a similar solution on the cheap, check out these automatic LED night lights. They are light-sensitive and turn off when there is light in the room.

They obviously take up an outlet space, but are very cheap at around $3 each. There are probably cheaper models out there.

u/LewisAnders · 10 pointsr/OpTicGaming

They’re called Nanoleaf I’m pretty sure.

pretty pricey though

On iOS, use Night Shift, fully red, combined with Reduce White Point. Make White Point your accessibility shortcut, meaning you click the home button 3 times and it turns on.

And also buy these:

I just ordered this similar one which I think looks a bit cooler!

Gosh it's just common courtesy to put a light in there

u/dailyblumpkins · 5 pointsr/LSD

I've downloaded Electric Sheep which is a pretty damn good visualizer, and I've got this sweet ass tapestry with this sweet ass light, and when you put the light on the auto cycle through all the colors, it plays with the colors on the tapestry and it fucking morphs and it's ridiculous. then as for tunes I'll throw on some Boards of Canada, Starfucker, Grateful Dead or lately if I'm really trying to get weird I'll throw on some Gnod or Mr. Elevator and the Brain Hotel or some really old Floyd.

I'll also watch one of a few movies, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and for some odd reason, my friends and I have had a trip tradition of watching ninja assassin because it's visually nuts and there's not too much to keep up with story wise. I also watched some it's always sunny, which was pretty much the funniest thing that has ever happened to me at the time. I only got through one episode (Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games) before I really felt the need to go for a walk.

I can't game very well, I tried playing halo 2 and all I did was walk around the first level and not shoot anyone. Geometry wars was pretty cool though.

But to be honest don't work on staying focused on anything, I just let the weird take me where it takes me

I have these USB lights, you can make a bright night-light with them. I also keep one with my USB battery bank so I have emergency light if needed.

u/sevanelevan · 5 pointsr/funny

This toilet light is the answer.

You can set it to red, which is less sleep disruptive. It automatically turns on and lights up the toilet if you enter the bathroom when it is dark. The batteries last forever. And it's under $10.

u/drewtangclan · 5 pointsr/Drugs

My little brother bought this multicolor light projector on amazon, and it's amazing

Also, not sure what your budget is, but the Philips Hue lighting system is pretty incredible: here's the official website, and here's an awesome demonstration video

u/KittenyStringTheory · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

The ones I got look kind of like this: https://www.amazon.com/Maxxima-MLN-10-Night-Light-Sensor/dp/B002SVANCY

But I just got them off a shelf at a shop in the mall. If you ask for night lights, there's often a rack of them there.

Just make sure they're bright enough, and not colored. My cat didn't like the blue light ones, they were no help. But a little yellow or white spot seems to do the trick.

u/Hollyingrd6 · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Ouch I hate when that happens, I find getting a night light really helps. Also if you're religious try praying about it, I know that helps me when I'm worried about things that go bump in the night.

My favorite piece of technology that I've bought was a simple light/motion sensor LED for the toilet. The illumibowl type light is fantastic. No need to add anything to my Smartthings set up and it just works.

Maybe let him pick out some new bedding and a cute stuffed animal to go with it? That might make him excited about his new room. Also, my mom recently bought this for my son: https://www.amazon.com/Lizber-Night-Projector-Degree-Rotation/dp/B01CFI082Y?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_1 I was worried it would keep him awake at night, but it has had the opposite effect. He used to come out of his room multiple times when it was bedtime, now he almost never does. Apparently it has some sort of calming effect? In any event, it also might help make the new room a bit more enticing.

Honestly, I've thought about the bed pop-tent (the 2nd option) before. It's actually bigger than the expensive version. I think the pricier version is mostly a rip-off, anyway. It's pretty small, would get old fast, doesn't allow for sitting up, and would take up a ton of space. A lot of the high-end features (mood lighting, soft cushions, soundscape) are super easy to simulate.

Here are some possible ways to simulate the same environment in a bed or closet. All of these options helped get me through a rough bout with post-partum depression:

  • I highly recommend mynoise.net for the world's most comforting and huge variety of white noise, nature sounds, tonal drones, and binaural sounds. Free! I use it so often that I ended up donating, which I never do.

  • Amazon has lots of cheap options for mood lights that project colors and ocean waves, with speaker hookups to play sounds through your laptop or phone. This one looks promising, but there are a lot of options.

  • A cool mist essential oil diffuser can add aromatherapy. I have something similar to this next to my bed.

  • Finally, you could invest in the comfiest possible bedding. A feather bolster, down comforter, excellent pillows, etc.

With the combination of the above, you could probably have a much nicer, more personalized "sanctuary" for much less than the pod costs. You could also think about hanging pretty bedcurtains, draping twinkle lights or silk flowers, or other touches that appeal to you. Also try /r/cozyplaces for some cool inspiration. Good luck!
u/KaNikki · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

  1. this bed just looks so damn comfortable. Like you could just fall into it.

  2. graham crackers and milk are so tasty and great for a midnight snack!

  3. these adorable sleeping cat pajamas even have matching slippers.

  4. I personally prefer the dark, but this looks like a beautiful night light to fall asleep to, especially for anyone who likes the ocean.

  5. if the baby shusher doesn't work, play the baby some 80's music

“She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread.”

16-Color Motion Activated Toilet Night Light, LED Toilet Seat Nightlight, Motion Sensor Toilet Bowl Light, 5 Stage Dimmer, Splash Proof - By Witshine https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073TBP1D5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_YC1Z6kwfpBk2n

Unless it's incandescent, lights use so little power it's not worth spending even $10 on power savings.

That said, I have some LED nightlights that I use to provide "navigation lights." They don't put off enough light to do much more than see if there's a wall in the way or I'm going to step on a cat, but that's enough to walk around. They're something like 0.5 watts. That comes to 4.3 kilowatt-hours over the course of a year -- which for me is less than $0.50. And these models don't have a built in dusk-to-dawn light sensor that turns them off. They just run 24/7.

I've got 5 of them in my house (which pretty much covers the whole thing), so that's a whopping $2.50/yr.

Virtually everything you try will cost you more than the power you'll save. Here's a 4-pack of 0.3 watt nightlights with light sensors for $8. https://www.amazon.com/Maxxima-MLN-16-Night-Sensor-Lumens/dp/B00IXWYR42/ Assuming they don't burn out (and my LED nightlights have lasted almost a decade now with no signs of change), your total cost of ownership for the pack until the kid graduates high school will be under $20 (assuming they run an average of 12 hours a day).

Here's one on Amazon.

My wife got me these for Christmas as a joke!

These things are great! It's a small unit that fits over the bowl, and shines a bright LED into the bowl. It's motion-activated, so all you do is walk in the bathroom, and the bowl and the room light up. And it changes colors!

I'm giving them to everyone next Christmas!

Does Grad school count? I'll be starting Grad School next semester. Hello, debt.

Here's a cheap one ($2.00, you could gift twice!) for those of us who can't have or are too irresponsible to have candles in our rooms! Cute little LED light up flowers!

Edit: I'm also gonna play with fire here and suggest these.

u/FoxGetThisGuyOffMe · 2 pointsr/hookah

I also usually smoke at home. I recently dropped 350 USD on the SBCarbine which is cool and looks like a storm trooper rifle. I also use this time to either play video games or turn on my ocean light and just listen to music and relax. If you have a room where you can just turn off all the lights and chill, I recommend getting https://www.amazon.com/Projector-Ohuhu-Changing-Undersea-Decoration/dp/B0716T17BV/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538290224&sr=8-1&keywords=ocean+light. It definitely makes for a nice relaxing atmosphere. Honestly, it's probably the best $20 I've ever spent lol.

Whoops, posted the reply in the wrong spot(sorry, I'm a newbie). Here it is again-

LED is useful because it provides enough light to see what I am doing but not enough to see details on my skin. Not sure exactly what I have but here are some similar ones on amazon-

Maybe it's just because I am a mom, but my go-to recommendations are always the things you reach for at 3am and then kick yourself for not having had the foresight to own.

  • An absolute must is a pack of 9 volt batteries. It seems like no matter how frequently you check or swap the batteries in your fire alarms they will sing the song of their people in the middle of the night annually.

  • Basic First Aid Kit, and a well stocked medicine cabinet. You can buy a kit like the one I linked, but I prefer to just pick out each item individually. Think of the things you frequently pulled out of the medicine cabinet when you were still living with your parents and start there.

  • A fire extenguisher is a good thing to have. While you are at it, get one for your car as well.

  • Night Lights so you don't stub your toe in the middle of the night.

I don't want to type a novel here, so I will stop. Just think of the things you reached for without thinking while growing up. Start with the things you will use most often and those that are needed for real emergencies and go from there. Hope this helps and congratulations!

Thanks everyone, I think i'm going to get one.

I have several hue colour bulbs and an iris (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Colours-Changing-Integrated-Control/dp/B008B4DC7K/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1481810200&sr=8-2&keywords=hue+iris&linkCode=ll1&tag=best-reviewer-21&linkId=4972b94f97e0fd6e2080c672767bd568) . I have been a bit annoyed with myself about the iris as I didn't realise it would only work with the stand alone remote and couldn't communicate with the bridge etc...

The table lamp looks perfect though.

Thanks all.

u/studdmufin · 1 pointr/OLED

I don't have a pic of my setup but it looks similar to this. I like it when watching SDR content, but when I'm watching HDR I'll unplug the light strip. It helps illuminate the room when we are hanging out, but doesn't produce any strong points of glare because the light is behind the TV

I'm using a usb LED light strip I got on amazon. I don't remember the specific one I have, but something like this would do. If you don't want the light splashing around the screen and just want an indicator light you could get something like this that has a tiny amount of LEDs on it and get a USB extension cable and route it to wherever you would like just as a simple indicator light.

Hello everyone. I made a negative which allows you to produce pieces that fit perfectly onto a cheap night light you can find on Amazon.

I posted this in 3D printing, but figured that you guys may actually get more use out of it in here.

There is a full video tutorial along with the file on Thingiverse.

Enjoy :)

I don't think so

I have:

  • 4 hue lamps
  • 2 livingcolor lamps (gen2 and gen3)
  • 1 livingwhite bulb (think hue lux, but non-led)
  • 2 livingwhite dimmers

it's only the livingwhite dimmers that don't appear, all the others show up in the alexa app.

If I query the bridge myself, getting a list of devices, the dimmers appear very slightly different to the white main lamp, so I guess perhaps they're just too different for the echo to work with. Shame really, its probably a trivial bug fix

It's not a range issue, they always work with the hue app (and other apps, for that matter)

My mate said he couldn't get his echo to see his 2nd gen bridge and lamps at all, so I guess I can't complain too much. If I can spot the problem with some packet sniffing, I'll see if I can form a decent bug report and send it on.
