I buy these little pods that turn into hand towels when wet. They're the best for the outdoors or anywhere where you need a towel to wipe your hands or clean something.

I also buy Sensodyne with novamin which you can only buy from Europe. Novamin isn't allowed in the US without paying for a $pecial procedure from your dentist so this is one of the best over-the-counter ways to treat/repair sensitive teeth.

u/wildtaco · 30 pointsr/AskMen

My wife bought me one of those flossers that gives you the nice grip and can change out the flossy bit after a dentist visit about a year ago. Started flossing more in the car on my way to work and keep a small bottle of mouthwash that I refill from the big bottle at home in the car for after to swish. My gums feel way better and I feel a bit better about myself as an adult. Little goes on a long way.

u/Halgy · 20 pointsr/AskMen

Protip: Floss in the shower (I use one of these). Flossing sucks, but standing under the hot water rocks. My dentist complements me on my teeth.

u/GingerSizeQueen · 13 pointsr/AskWomen

You can get one of these for pretty cheap. They're not going to last as long as one from a dental office, and won't fit quite as tight but it works the exact same way.

u/ediblesprysky · 11 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

My favorite international flight outfit is a loose tee-shirt dress (which I belt, but I take the belt off once I'm trying to get comfy), a long cardigan, leggings, and slip-on shoes. I'll keep some socks in my bag, along with my glasses so I can take out my contacts and really sleep. And these disposable toothbrushes are AWESOME for making you feel like a human again; you don't need water, and you don't even need to spit. These deodorant wipes are also amazing, almost as good as a shower. (You know. Relatively speaking.) Oh, and if you want to get really fancy, take a fresh pair of underwear that you can change into in the bathroom before customs. And dry shampoo! Aww yeah, brushed teeth, clean underarms, clean hair, and fresh underwear, you'll feel like a whole new person.

Edit: I spelled "underwear" wrong. You should totally trust me.

Usually the mouthwash biotine mouthwash will really help with tongue bite and recovery. It'll also help with the bad tastes.

You can find them online or at any health food store. E.g. Tom's of Maine, Doterra.

I think the thing with fluoridated toothpaste is just NOT to swallow it (as the poison control label on the box states).

I would say that's not the norm here. There are some people that will do this, but I'd consider it strange in the US to bring a toothbrush to work and brush your teeth there. I've known some that use these as an alternative.

Personally, I brush when I wake up, then at night before I go to bed. I may have a mint during the day to help convince myself my teeth aren't rotting.

Same issue here, so I use unflavored toothpaste.

My dentist said that any electric toothbrush is so much better than regular brushing that you don't need to spend any more than the minimum.

As long as it's got a basic timer to let you know when you're done and replaceable heads, you're gold.

This is what I've had for a few years now and I love it. You're teeth feel like you just left the dentist, and it telling me when I'm done stops me from being lazy about it.

Plus it's on sale right now.

Here ya go. I also like the toothpaste, I pair it with Sensodyne with Novamin from the UK.

u/e39 · 6 pointsr/Gameboy

For basic soldering, a $6 Walmart iron works just as well as a $25 one from Amazon. You'll only notice a difference when you start moving up drastically in budget. You'll get finer controls and a more sophisticated workstation.

Whichever iron you end up with, soldering accessories make your life so much easier.

u/bicycle_mice · 6 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I actually do use the Novamin formulation, I bought the UK toothpaste on Amazon and it wasn't too expensive with prime.

u/LateralThinkerer · 5 pointsr/Ultralight

It's the original "toothpaste" - you'd dip your toothbrush in water, then in the tin of powder to coat the bristles, then you're off. The tubes of prefab stuff came later.

Edit: There are a lot of brands still available - apparently there's a Colgate-branded version still made for the Indian market you can get here.

u/publicfrog · 5 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

My dentist told me to buy a mouthguard online because they're just as effective as custom made ones. There are two types I have experience with, the melty kind and the minimalist kind.

The melty kind you feel more but it's formed to your body so it's not that intrusive, the minimalist kind fits in your mouth better but doesn't conform and I find myself chewing on them more, also some of the reviews say that they woke up to almost swallowing them (I've never had this happen), so decide which one will be best for you. I prefer the minimal ones.

Take hot baths and lay flat, I usually cross my legs or rest my feet on the end of the tub so that my back is flat on the bottom, the heat will help hour muscles relax. I also have a jade facial roller or (slow but much cheaper
) which works especially well when it's been warmed up, I have better luck using that for my facial/jaw massages than just my hands.

u/TokyoEng · 5 pointsr/japanlife

I too suffer from canker sores and switching to SLS free toothpaste made a huge difference. You can get Sensodyne Pronamel, シュミテクト Proエナメル, in stores and it is SLS free. I personally use Sensodyne with Novamin. I've imported it via Amazon here, took about a month to arrive.

This is the whackiest idea but I swear to you it works. At least it works for me. I use the end of a vibrating toothbrush. I keep one of these in my swim bag for just this application.

I turn it one, press the end of it against the base of my ear and lean my head over. Ear unclogs in less than 10 seconds every single time.

This is the one I use. You may not like it, my boyfriend says it's disgusting. But here goes, lol.

Yep, I've used these my whole life. Until fairly recently, I didn't even know about the tiny disposable flossers. They're very easy to maneuver around, and I used them growing up as well. It's a bit more floss use because you need enough to wind around a little spool (just once), up one handle, across the gap, and down the other to go around the spool again to hold the floss taut, but they're a hard plastic. Everyone in my family has had one as long as I can remember, and in all of my memory I don't recall anyone having one break or having to replace it in 30 years so far. Frankly I'd be peeved if any of ours were ever to break!

I just rinse it before and after use and discard the used floss. Our dentists give them out for free in their little goody bag of brushes, toothpaste, and floss so anyone who is interested may want to ask their dentist's office if they have any before jumping to buy them.

u/Savassan · 3 pointsr/Dentistry

Yeah, i found it being sold online on amazon, so I can get like a 6pack of https://www.amazon.com/Sensodyne-repair-protect-novamin-pack/dp/B00RZ2OB5Q . My teeths enamel has been seriously damaged because i suffered from an eating disorder that caused me to vomit several times a week, so i was looking for anything that can help undo the damage that caused. Teeth are sensitive and enamel is very damaged.

This. I love this tool so much. It gets the new tightly fitting trays out quickly (which is a must on day 3 when your teeth hurt badly). It's also more elegant/sanitary than reaching in your mouth and getting saliva all over your hands. Sometimes the buttons make it difficult to get the trays off, so you could be digging for a while. There's a set of 2 for a discounted price. I bought that one to have one at home and one in the to-go kit.

Huh, maybe it was the brand? Mine was very thick and sturdy, and I followed the instructions quite closely. I don't think mine is sticky at all. They do feel weird in your mouth...but they all do. :P I used a smaller size (my package had four mouthguards in two sizes) and it fit best. Did take a couple hours to get used to it, so I put it in a while before bed to get used to it.

Mine was like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01JNH3XFO/ref=zg_bs_3764091_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=FKCPMR8VC8QYWFYF0QB3

Edit: also if you haven't been tested for it, ask about sleep apnea. Apparently 1 in 4 people with sleep apnea grind their teeth (I believe, maybe it's backwards and 1 in 4 people who grind their teeth have sleep apnea) so it's worth checking it out.

I don't have sleep apnea, I've been tested 3 times. I unfortunately just have health issues that cause the muscles all over my body to spasm all night. Sigh.

Is this the one you wanted to buy? http://www.amazon.com/Philips-HX5610-30-Rechargeable-Frustration/dp/B007ZN5ATQ

It's still showing available for me on USA Amazon.

The only differences seem to be the color.

Having used sonicare brushes for years, I would stay away from the models you are looking at because of the brush head design. Especially if multiple people may use it, and change brush heads, that model needs to be unscrewed and gets all gunked up with moisture.

Also, the replacement screw on heads seem to be more expensive on Amazon.

If you can swing it, look in to a model with the smaller, pull off type brush head.

I feel you so much D: I’m on day 4 of my first trays and I can tell you how much I was crying and in pain when trying to take the trays out the first day. I researched and learned many methods. One is that there is a tool that helps you to remove the trays. Link: tool. The other that I’m currently using is the gloves to help me remove it. I also learned the hard way not to take off the tray in the front but to take it off on the back and inside of the trays with both hands if possible. Using the glove and taking it off from the back has helped me to take the trays off even though it is still painful for me. I hope you find your way to take off your trays!

Waterpiks are excellent for cleaning deeper pockets. However, I understand the frustration of the mess. What I found that works great is getting a travel size water pick like this one and using it in the shower instead of the sink, kinda like that new shower tool. Keeping a mirror hung or suctioned to the shower wall can help with controlling the tip to follow along the gum line. There are also floss holders like this that help with dexterity. Electric toothbrushes are a total game changer too. They really help take most of the work out of brushing and have been consistantly proven to be more effective than a manual toothbrush. Tongue scrapers are AMAZING. They reduce the number of bacteria for plaque formation, reduce mouth odors, and show improvements for dry mouth, coated tongue, fissured tongue, or patients who use tobacco. I have found with my own experience that this type works the best for my patients. But you can find what works best for you personally, there are many different types out there. Hopefully this helped!

I have been looking for a nice dental set for a while around here and can never find anything so I have this set on my add-on wishlist.

I've never been on a plane before but I hope on my very first flight that I don't overhear someone say "I don't know, fly casual."

Thanks for the contest :)

this waterpik water flosser would improve my life by making my teeth clean and healthy! also, I see you have waterpik heads on your wish list and I think if you don't already own a sonicate toothbrush you should get one because they are CRAZY AMAZING! yay clean teeth :)

u/juliekthx · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Invest in an good toothbrush. I was so lazy when it comes to brushing and even when I brushed/flossed faithfully it took too long and I didn't see much benefit.

After reading a recommendation by others on reddit, I spent $25 dollars on an electric OralB toothbrush and it has done wonders with my teeth. Please brush at LEAST twice a day.

Bad breath can be attributed to a number of things. Just maintain good overall dental hygiene and remember to brush your tongue every so often.

u/AndysDoughnuts · 2 pointsr/videos

That Sonicare uses e-series brush heads, which aren't as common anymore and are quite pricey, (anywhere from £8-£16 for a 2 pack of heads). I would advise going for the EasyClean, which is part of Philips newer range of brushes and uses a newer range of heads which are cheaper as they are more widely available (you can get a 12 pack of heads for £10.99). There are also four different types of brush heads you can get: ProResults, Sensitive, InterCare, DiamondClean.

u/Creath · 2 pointsr/CrazyIdeas

$150? A waterpik is like $40.

Edit: Turns out that was a pretty good guess

u/gallantlady · 2 pointsr/DentalHygiene

TOOTHBRUSH

This is the electric toothbrush I use and recommend: Sonicare Flex Care Plus. It is cheapest at Costco but comes in a pack of 2. It's important to replace the brush head every 3-4 months. Sonicare now has a subscription service to automatically send you a new brush head when it's time to replace, or you can buy the brush heads when you need them; they come out to approx $9 each on amazon but you can get 6 for $50 at Costco and they oftentimes have a $10 instant rebate. If you need to use a manual toothbrush, I recommend the Nimbus manual toothbrush. These Wisps are really handy when you can't brush after eating.

FLOSS

The floss I recommend is Dr. Tung's Smart Floss and you can use this  Floss Holder to make it easier to use. (Amazon only sells the floss in packs of 3 or 6 so if you want to purchase a single pack you can find it at Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, or Sprouts.) A Waterpik can also be a great tool, this one is a Handheld Waterpik and is more convenient to use. You can use it in the shower and it takes up less counter space.

TOOTHPASTE/MOUTHWASH

This Crest Gum and Sensitivity  paste is one of my favorites and I like Act Total Care mouthwash. When choosing a toothpaste or mouthwash, look for "sodium fluoride" as an active ingredient.  It's best to stay away from mouthwashes with alcohol in them and whitening/charcoal pastes because the abrasives in them can damage the teeth. If you use a whitening rinse with hydrogen peroxide, only use it 2-3 times per week to avoid making the gum tissue sensitive. Other than that, whatever you prefer is just fine.

WHITENING

For an inexpensive whitening treatment Crest White Strips are a good option.

u/Mellema · 2 pointsr/preppers

I like the Colgate Wisps.

u/littlepiskie · 2 pointsr/Invisalign

Much, much, better. I was getting a few sore spots the day after (where the attachments hit my cheeks, but maybe 3 days after, they started to disappear. And I'm not lisping anymore :D

I bought this one: https://smile.amazon.com/PULTOOL-Aligner-Removal-Invisible-Removable/dp/B07CYJ7DBM/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1543280722&sr=8-1&keywords=pultool
but I was reading that others use a crochet hook. :)

I also was doing my chewies for 5-10 minutes every time I put them on, it helped with the uncomfortableness. But I hate the chewies (I gag after a while), so I am trying these out: https://www.eocamerica.com/collections/munchies-1
I'll let you know how they go!

I just put in tray 2 this morning, and so far so good. It feels a little tight, but not uncomfortable! Good luck! I'm here for support if you need it!

I also have a mirena IUD and have CC's, but I can't remember if I had them before or not - but pimples/acne on the chin is almost always hormonal. I started to use a toothpaste that is flouride-free and sls-free bc toothpaste with those products have been linked to CCs and have noticed a slight difference. I find that clay masks like the Aztec Clay Mask help in reducing/removing the CCs and hot compresses help as well.

Strangely shaped Tongue Scraper?

u/LuckeeSeven · 2 pointsr/Dentistry

I'm going to piggyback on this comment, love Sonicare, but the Essence can get pretty gunked up in between the housing of the base and head the way it is designed. Replacement heads are more expensive than other models as well.

I would recommend the Easy Clean version which is slightly more for the initial investment, but replacement heads are more affordable and it stays much cleaner. You can also use the DiamondClean replacements on the Easy Clean as well, which are the heads that I prefer.

u/Tinyfishy · 2 pointsr/Dentistry

I am willing to bet that the slightly faster speed makes very little practical difference in the real world. Focus on good technique, frequency, and duration, angling the brush into the gumline. Getting a brush that guides you through a full two minutes of brushing may help with changing your habits, so a fancier model with a timer might be advisable. Here is a good choice, I think it is the same that I have, or have had. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002HWS9GG/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1418874814&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SY200_QL40&dpPl=1&dpID=51pLORQVN8L&ref=plSrch

If you can find an equivalent of this toothpaste then it is unflavoured. I'm not bothered by toothpaste or brushing (I ground my teeth as a kid so I have many dental problems now and a strict dental hygiene regime) but young people I worked with could tolerate this toothpaste when they couldn't others. Some also preferred using these toothbrushes because it would cut down on brushing time by simultaneously brushing all sides of the tooth. Obviously brushing for two minutes would still have had better results but this was a huge improvement for many of them as they found the process so difficult to tolerate.

CariFree CTx4 is the brand of toothpaste containing nano-hydroxyapatite that I use. NHA is arguably superior to NovaMin as used in European sensodyne, but I think there's enough research to show that both are superior to plain fluoride.

Carifree actually has a whole suite of products like mouthwash, xylitol gums, mouth-wetting sprays for dry-mouth, etc, that they've developed into an anti-cavity program that some dentists 'prescribe' their high-risk patients.

Here's some of the studies:

  • Enamel surface remineralization: Using synthetic nanohydroxyapatite

    >The use of biomimetic nanohydroxyapatite as a remineralizing agent holds promise as a new synthetic enamel biocompatible material to repair early carious lesions.

  • Nano-hydroxyapatite and its applications in preventive, restorative and regenerative dentistry: a review of literature

    >The nano-hydroxyapatite is a revolutionary material with a wide use in dentistry. With regard to restorative and preventive fields, nano-hydroxyapatite has remarkable remineralizing effects on initial lesions of enamel, certainly higher than traditional fluorides used until now for this purpose. Nano-hydroxyapatite is, in fact, a better source of free Ca, and this is a key element as regards the remineralization, the protection against caries and dental erosion.

  • Enamel surface remineralization: Using synthetic nanohydroxyapatite.

    >Thirty sound human premolars were divided into nanohydroxyapatite group (n = 15) and the sodium fluoride group (n = 15)...The results showed that the nanohydroxyapatite group produced a surface morphology close to the biologic enamel, the increase in mineral content (Ca/P ratio) was more significant in the nanohydroxyapatite group (P < 0.05) and the SMH recovery was closer to the baseline level in the nanohydroxyapatite group (P < 0.05).

  • In vitro effects of nano-hydroxyapatite paste on initial enamel carious lesions.

    >Forty-eight human enamel blocks were assigned to four groups (N=12): (1) control (without agent); (2) fluoride varnish (Duraphat); (3) nano-HAP paste (Desensibilize Nano P); and (4) casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) paste (MI Paste Plus)...After the cariogenic challenge, the nano-HAP group showed significantly higher KHN and %SMHR values than varnish. The CPP-ACP group showed no increase in KHN. The nano-HAP group showed, via AFM, a protective layer formation with globular deposits on the surface....SMHR and AFM morphology revealed that nano-hydroxyapatite paste showed a protective effect against in vitro enamel caries development.

  • Remineralization of early caries by a nano-hydroxyapatite dentifrice.

    >nHAP dentifrice caused remineralization comparable to a fluoride dentifrice, and inhibited caries development, thus suggesting that an nHAP dentifrice can be an effective alternative to fluoride toothpaste.

  • An In-vitro Comparison of Nano Hydroxyapatite, Novamin and Proargin Desensitizing Toothpastes - A SEM Study.

    >It was concluded that all the three desensiting agents were effective in the dentine tubule occlusion. In addition efficacy of nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste was greater compared to the other desensiting agents.

Novamin seems somewhat similar, it's a "bioglass" that is supposed to fill gaps in enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity, though it may also promote remineralization. Like I said, it's in sensodyne (interesting, it is not in US sensodyne, only in other countries like Canada and the UK).

  • Dentinal tubules occluded by bioactive-glass containing toothpaste exhibit high resistance toward acidic soft drink challenge.

i'm starting keto back up again and ordered this because it allegedly helps with bad breath (non-keto related). last year a blunt friend told me my breath smelled like dookie and i refuse to have that happen again lmaoooo.

Anything is possible!

It's awesome that you continue to go with a broken knee. I drag myself in there complaining about being sore from an earlier workout.

My short term goal is to get used to drinking 64oz of water every single day. I can make myself workout and I can stick to a diet plan, but I seem to be incapable of making myself drink more than 3 cups of water a day.

I have a huge weight loss journey ahead of me, with over 100 pounds still to lose. I just got a fitbit to get a better idea of how much I'm actually moving, but I think I really have to get a handle on water intake and sleeping enough to start seeing a real difference on the scale.

Clean tongues are important too

Dunno how I never saw this - oral b. This is the one I have. It was less at Walmart, where I bought it. This is the one my fiance uses.

Yeah, they worked great for me. You just have to make sure you are consistant with them. Also, I wouldn't use more than a kit or two because they will end up removing the enamel from your teeth. As for electric toothbrushes, I got this one http://www.amazon.com/Oral-B-Professional-SmartSeries-Rechargeable-Toothbrush/dp/B002HWS9GG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1310176547&sr=8-5 when amazon had a rebate which gave you 50 percent off the toothbrush. I think it may still be running if you're interested.

screw all that manual labor. I bough this product (well my dentist gave me the Flosser itself, i just buy more disposable packs):

http://www.amazon.com/Reach-Access-Flosser-Bonus-Disposable/dp/B00C2H2VQA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1409674515&sr=8-2&keywords=reach+access+flosser

I run the floss under lukewarm water and typically use 1 piece of the floss 2 times (like morning / evening) or 2 mornings -- then move onto the next piece of floss ...

Think that this is a way better alternative to disposable flossers.

Oh that explains a lot, mint is in everything it seems! Glad to hear you found a toothpaste that works for you, maybe you can try out a neutral mouthwash aswell? https://www.amazon.com/CloSYS-Original-Unflavored-Mouthwash-Alcohol/dp/B000O3VRTQ/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1489896592&sr=8-4&keywords=Mouth%20rinse&tag=linus21-20
I just personally really like using a mouthwash sometimes because it feels extra clean :) And it can reach areas that the toothbrush doesn't reach.

Have you cut out all fluoride products? Your skin sounds a lot like mine. I have PD around the mouth too and getting rid of fluoride products was huge. A few weeks ago I used a travel toothpaste with fluoride in it and my face was itching like crazy.

Tom's of Maine makes a good fluoride-free toothpaste, which has the seal of approval of my dentist: https://www.amazon.com/Toms-Maine-Antiplaque-Fluoride-Free-Toothpaste/dp/B00JUJ1E0W

Try this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O3VRTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_2cJXBbCCCK2NR

It specifically kills the bacteria in your mouth that causes bad breath. I've been using it forever. I've heard some say it causes dry mouth but I've never had problems.

my nails are thin and split down the middle, can't have acrylic nails and can't remove the trays with my nails. Here is my lifesaver: https://www.amazon.com/PULTOOL-Aligner-Removal-Invisible-Removable/dp/B07CYJ7DBM/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=tray+remover+invisaling&qid=1559133944&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I seriously was panicky because I couldn't remove the trays with my nails. This tool is well worth the money. I found one for $7 and ordered two just to have a spare. Now getting the trays out is so much easier, still painful (i just finished week 1), but easier.

First off, I pretty much blanket recommend to every patient I see to get an electric toothbrush. There is such a huge difference in plq control that 95% of the population cannot deal with with a manual tb. Sonicare vs Oral B is a hoseout, I use Oral B because they gave me a free one sooner than Sonicare did.

For just basic brushing you don't need the top of the line model with 5 modes, travel case, lightsaber, etc, but also don't skimp out. Definitely get a rechargeable one as the battery operated ones suck, and get one with a 2 minute timer.

My top recommendation is Costco if you're a member. They sell high end models for equal or cheaper than the mid-tier ones, but they usually come in packs of two. Like here's one model, the flexcare, comes out to be just $65 if you can find a friend/family member to split the cost with.

If you don't have a costco membership, [this] or [this] are probably ones I'd look to get. Make sure you check out the price of the actual brush heads too because that's a life-long cost.

u/BreechLoad · 1 pointr/Frugal

I use these disposable Oral B Pulsar toothbrushes. No upfront cost and they last about 3-4 months each for me. I get good results with them.

u/gamgeestar · 1 pointr/Frugal

8 top, 4 bottom. used to have 4 more on the bottom that i got to get rid of with refinements. it only takes a few seconds - do you have an ortho key or anything to help?

u/nevarek · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

I use this.

My only complaint is that it needs a tighter grip on the floss.

I have to wrap a ton of it all over and lengthwise for it to not come loose. This would be solved by including a cut on the bottoms for floss to go into.

Another downside is finding a way to rotate floss without wasting a lot of it.

u/Windstorm2002 · 1 pointr/aspergers

[I found this :)](Oranurse 50ml Unflavoured Toothpaste https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0085AOSU0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_6UDwybNWES6N8) and [this](DenTrust 3-Sided Toothbrush :: Specialty Toothbrush for AUTISM & Special Needs :: Autistic ASD :: Made In USA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008C3UBD8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ZWDwybBQPKX40). If that's not what you are looking for there is a toothbrush they use at the dentist, I think oragel, and it's really soft. I personally like it and think it's a lot better than hard bristles.

u/JimmyLegs50 · 1 pointr/news

I meant that anything with Novamin is prescription-only. Sensodyne is over-the-counter in the US, but it doesn't have Novamin.

EDIT: Here is the real thing on Amazon.

u/Inktastic · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Two recommendations. One, buy a waterpik. They are amazing and I love mine. It shoots water between your teeth instead of using floss.

My cheaper suggestion is buy these things. They're like little pipe cleaners for your mouth.

My Mom has cancer and is currently undergoing chemo again to try and push it back (she has a brain tumour).

We’ve found that Sea-Bands have helped with the sickness. This could all be psychosomatic but she hasn’t felt sick when wearing them and her appetite (which went terrible) has returned as she feels able to eat.

My Mom’s also found she’s developed a problem with mint when brushing her teeth so I brought her some unflavoured toothpaste from Amazon and she’s been fine with that. She says it’s a little powdery but bearable.

Grease can also be an issue, like the smell of grease in the house can make you heave if you’re already feeling ill. So just be wary if you’re a big fried chip fan.

However, no two people are the same and hopefully you’ll sail through your chemo. Just remember to eat what you want, when you want it. You don’t have to eat big meals if you don’t want them. Take everyday as it comes and remember to smile even when feeling down.

You’ll be amazed at what smiling to yourself in the mirror can do for your mood.

Good luck honey x

u/de-milo · 1 pointr/TMJ

you should be able to get custom fit for one by your dentist, but honestly i bought a $15 set on amazon that you boil and fit to your teeth yourself and i love it. i also have a bad gag reflex but this guard doesn’t bother me.

u/Tabtykins · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

Water picks are good but only if you really cant floss. Think about the difference between hosting something down or actually wiping it with a sponge.

Flossing with braces can be a pain but maybe something like these gum picks or [Wisdom clean between brushes] (http://www.amazon.com/Wisdom-Clean-Between-Interdental-Brushes/dp/B001RYOPQ8/ref=sr_1_sc_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1375050257&sr=1-2-spell&keywords=wizdom+clean+between) will get in the tricky areas to use alongside your water pick.

u/Dizzy_Slip · 1 pointr/Dentistry

You can get Novamin toothpaste in bundles of 6 small tubes for about $30. That's $5 for a small tube. But if you use it sparingly-- small dabs on the toothbrush-- it can last. I think it's a reasonable price, even if it's high compared to "regular" toothpastes.

Looks pretty cheap. Do you know if there are any videos online or proper methods of using it described somewhere?

I checked out the airflosser but I think I will hold out on it for a little while.

couple more questions if you don't mind:

are you a dentist / dental student or are just speaking from general life experience and any idea about these things? ("soft picks")

Thanks! I definitely wasn't doing 2 seconds each side, so that will help immensely.

Just a follow up with regards to brushes, which do you recommend? Looking at Amazon, Oral B has 7 brushes. I use the Precision Clean, but Dual Clean looks interesting as well as the Pro White. Even the Floss Action looks interesting. Is there a brush you recommend for daily use? Do you recommend multiple, say for example Precision daily and Pro White one day a week.

Hey man, just to follow up on this. I wound up making a mouth guard for night wear and it has helped a LOT. Almost zero jaw pain, no clicking/etc now. It took about two weeks of wear to get to this point.

In my case, my dentist found that my bite caused my jaw to pull a mm or two out of alignment when I clenched my teeth. If I did it a lot at night, I would invariable wake up with a sore, strained jaw. The trick for fixing that was to create a mouth guard with a smooth top so that my upper and lower teeth could not lock into place.

To do this, I ordered this mouth guard:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JNH3XFO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

When I was molding it, I used a plastic credit card to put on top of it as I bit down so that biting down wouldn't put a tooth impression on the top of it. This helped create a smooth top to the lower guard while it was fitted to my mouth.

$16 and it works perfectly vs. $800 that my dentist wanted to make me one.

u/Britton120 · 1 pointr/keto

International toothpastes have been proven to have actual real, far greater cavity and enamel protection.

u/appalachiana · 0 pointsr/Dentistry

I have been there. Since it's been 2.5 weeks, I'd say you're clear for any socket issues. I actually went out to Walmart and bought a DenTek tooth scraping kit... it was $5-7 at the time but it had some plastic scraping tools and gum stimulators inside. The rubber/plastic tips are spiky and perfect for gently poking things out of the holes. Then, flush. Also, a wash bottle is great, too but be careful with how much pressure you can stand. They just flush away :D

Here's some links to what these products look like. Should be able to find similar in a local big box retailer. Also, be very careful if you get the Dentek Kit. Home cleaning is great, but scraping can be damaging to your enamel & gums if you aren't sure what you're doing or how often to do it.

I've used both Crest and Toms in the past. From what I've gathered from doing it a few times is that Crest is more effective (possibly due to the fluoride?) so I would go with that. For the toothbrush I imagine the softer the bristles the better as long as it still scrubs well.
