12 for 56 bucks from Amazon. I wouldn't suggest purchasing them in large quantities alone if you're a white dude. Charlottesville forever ruined that for us

This is a pretty good deal if you want to just buy in bulk.

If the room feels cold, maybe some copper string lights from amazon (UK / US) would help, thats what I use to make my room look a bit cosier, as well as having a nice candle to light (I use fruity smelling big candles but you could just get some cheap tealights and a candle holder too). This especially helps because my room is completely white with grey carpet so I really needed something that made it feel less cold.

I have a couple of low maintenance plants on there just to make it seem a bit more homely and I have a blanket for if I'm working late or get cold.

Would you be able to put up a little corkboard to stick some pictures and a schedule etc on?

Do you have any pen pots or organisers on your desk? I think ASOS have some nice ones or you could go to a local stationary shop and check out what they have there

Most of it is just little personal touches to make me feel more comfortable there and make me actually want to sit down and study.

The most serious light of this sort that I've seen are the Pelican Remote Area Lights. These are waaaay out of your price range (starting at $600) but fun to look at.

More practical options:

  • LE 50W flood light: $40, 3750 lumens.
  • LE 100W flood light: $110, 10150 lumens.

And they keep going up. 150W for $190, 240W for $300. Personally I'd get a bunch of the 50W units for more versatility instead. I'm not sure why the 50W unit has such low efficiency since the bigger models appear to be multiple 50W lights stuck together. I suspect it might be more realistic than the other numbers.

  • Brookelinen for sheets

  • Down pillows from Target are ridiculously comfortable. Just make sure to get the firmness you like.

  • And since we are spending money here... read the reviews on the Hudson Bay blanket and then convince yourself not to buy it.

  • I think small LED string lights can look very nice if done correctly. I went to Michaels and bought two birch logs, stuck them in a vase, put a few rocks in the bottom and then tightly wound string lights one of the branches. I have it on a sunset/sunrise dimmer that automatically turns it on when the sun sets. I like the lighting it adds while also not becoming too feminine.
u/Xenu2112 · 5 pointsr/halloween

Sure! I have 5 of these type LED floods ranging from 10 to 30 watts.

u/Sometimes-Scott · 5 pointsr/homeassistant

I'm skeptical on how well z-wave will work for this. I'm afraid it wouldn't respond fast enough and you might get a lot of false positives outside. I have a z-wave motion sensor in my garage and sometimes it doesn't respond until I get out of my vehicle.

Here are some ideas:

  • Use presence detection. You could use Happy Bubbles. Your automation would be something like "If I've been away for 30 minutes and I return, turn on the light".
  • Use location location tracking with your phone.
  • Get a "dumb" motion security light. This is probably the easiest solution and maybe the best. It's relatively cheap and very dependable.
u/WindWalkerWhoosh · 5 pointsr/raspberry_pi

Yes, still 5V. You may not find one in a wall-wart form, they're quite commonly like this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D8FLWGE

And you need to use 14ga wire or thicker to run to the HAT (standard housing circuit wire will do). And if possible split the power and feed it to each board instead of daisy chaining it from board to board (otherwise you'll generate a lot more heat in the first boards).

u/Lefty_123 · 4 pointsr/ExposurePorn

Half of the color in the light is actually the color of the hula hoop. I used a battery powered white fairy light wrapped around a red and yellow hula hoop. I hit the trigger at the height of throw and cut it as soon as it hit the ground and the camera was at F2.8 with an ISO of 800 if i remember correctly.

u/Apotropaic_Sphinx · 4 pointsr/CherokeeXJ

I've been meaning to do this for years. I've always been frustrated by the lack of light around the cargo area, the tailgate seemed like the perfect place to install a work light.

A few days ago I found this light on Amazon. It was cheap and small enough to tear apart and mod into the tailgate. I installed a switch at the top of the window for easy access when open.

I spliced it all into the Pink (+) and Yellow (-) wires of the cargo light. This makes it so it will only work if a door is ajar or you manually turn on the dome light.

u/dansyr · 3 pointsr/orchids

I have a similar knock-off-market flood like that - this one on a 20 normal tank terrarium and it does a great job. Heat sink on the back get a little warm but not too bad and it's plenty of light. Too much actually for my Gastro. retrocallus to be directly under but a little off to the side is great. Assuming watts to PAR intensity scales somewhat linearly between ours (not a good assumption, but just stating it), I'm going to hazard a guess that this'll be fine for you.

u/Ascendor81 · 3 pointsr/nvidia

Now all you need is to line the inside of the case with this, and change it to red: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A5DDDE6/

u/OREGON_IS_LIFE_84 · 3 pointsr/overlanding

These are the ones that I use.

Tons of light and they don't hurt my eyes at night.

u/Scoregasm · 3 pointsr/Coachella

I use battery operated ones. They light up the inside of a canopy surprisingly well and have plenty of power with 6 AA batteries for each string. Two of these are enough to cover the inside of a 10x10 and they have a timer built in so they turn off and on automatically.

One other thing I thought of: You might want to deploy some motion activated lights in the less traveled areas outside of your home so that they get lit up when prowling around. Thatt's often enough to send them elsewhere.

The "Mr Beams" line of battery operated floodlights works pretty well and run on 4 D batteries. They stay on for a short period, and will reactivate if there is still motion sensed. No power connection needed. There is also a wireless version that talk to each other, so that when one light is triggered, all of them come on. (https://smile.amazon.com/Beams-MB393-300-Lumen-Weatherproof-Spotlight/dp/B00BCCNZ7K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1487012780&sr=8-3&keywords=mr+beams)

The only down side I've seen with these lights is that they can be a little slow to trigger, or sometimes don't trigger when the temps here are consistently over about 112 degrees. I think the heat overrides the thermal sensor that would normally pick up a body moving.

u/MISFITofMAGIC · 2 pointsr/HomeImprovement

I replaced 2 outdoor lights with this light it works and allows for a switch override by flipping the switch off then on again.

The $100 one is extremely bright, worth spending a bit more if you have a large area.

You can buy some of these LED flood lights from Amazon. The one I got is 20w, 6500K. I don't know the exact needs for a 30 gallon tank, but one was more than enough for my 10 gallon. They've got more powerful ones as well!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KFU8C7W/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Only down side is that it gets hot. Not enough to raise my water temp, but still noticeable. You could proabably DIY suspend these above the tank somehow.

I've installed one this way, on a light like this one. May not have been this exact one, but there are a ton that look almost identical, but the stock sensor on it was crap anyway, so putting the camera in place made them much more sensitive. The main point of me linking that here is not the light itself, but to see how the motion sensor attaches. It threads in, and the Spotlight Cam Mount can be threaded in place of the existing sensor and wired in its place. This is even an officially supported install method, included in the newest version of the manual for the Spotlight Cam Mount.

u/TropicalFishLover · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

Well to be to be honest if your willing to put the time in for looks and stuff you can make it look wonderful. I have seen some nice DYI CFL reflector set ups.

Now for the LED flood lights, here is one that I ordered and playing with, its 30W ones, and I just got it set up so I am not sure how over the top it is for intensity:

https://www.amazon.com/Leegoal-30W-white-Flood-Light/dp/B007HZEJG2?ie=UTF8&me=&ref_=olp_product_details

Now for the 20W one that I have are here:
https://www.amazon.com/White-Flood-Light-Spotlight-Outdoor/dp/B007HZB4MO/ref=sr_1_13?s=lamps-light&rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1465514979&sr=1-13&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011%2Cp_89%3AGLW

I mean you could really make it nice mounting it with like some pipe to hide the wires and hang it from the ceiling..... or better with the flood lights you can build an enclose for them also.

Ill get more detail later but this gives you an idea.

u/angard2012 · 1 pointr/PlantedTank

What about a bunch of these?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007HZEJG2?pc_redir=1411248110&robot_redir=1

Use some wooden frames to hang them on.

u/awfulposter · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

The lighta I have picked out (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00WVOV3W2/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A302JHK8ZA18R6) state they are dimmable. Now I'm just trying to find an outdoor option that plugs in. The outlet isn't in a super convenient spot ( under eave) so some type of remote function would be nice.

u/gorbashD · 1 pointr/Iwish

There are a bunch of styles out there, but these seem pretty solid for wall-mounting: http://www.amazon.com/Beams-MB393-300-Lumen-Weatherproof-Spotlight/dp/B00BCCNZ7K/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t
and then there are always the push-in solar pathway lights.

Here’s the link to lights

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077TV48MM/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wiped the area with rubbing alcohol before installing. Make sure to order Velcro strips. Also use a screw to hold the battery cover in place so it doesn’t fall from Vibration. I’d say it’s been on for 4 months. I don’t ride in rain or wet conditions.

u/IcyKettle · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

FWIW, we have two sets of these on the fence around our backyard: https://www.amazon.com/Brightech-Ambience-Pro-Waterproof-Commercial/dp/B00WVOV3W2/ref=sr_1_4

I don't know how often I'd have to replace the incandescent bulbs, but I didn't want to find out. Definitely pricier, but cheaper than when I bought them.

We love them. The only downside is because they're LED, finding an outdoor rated dimmer wasn't easy. And at full brightness, they're too bright.

Finally, this showed up on Amazon and I grabbed it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GGQ12CW/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works great. I also connected them my Insteon system and they turn on and off at set times, or via my phone.

u/sailingtoweather · 1 pointr/overlanding

Ive got 2 sets of these, warm white and red, that I have glued around the top of the canopy. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J444DMY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works well for soft lighting in the truck. If I was to redo the lighting i would use these instead, and power them with USB power packs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWMIT4P/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The photo itself is 2 seperate photos blended together, one exposed for the lighting outside the truck, and one inside the truck.

u/tommycarpenter · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I recently bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ETUHXR4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is very bright, LED, easy to install. The motion sensing range isn't huge, maybe 20 feet, so depends on how big of an area you're trying to cover.

i just followed the examples in the adafruit neopixel library for the python side. The PHP is pretty self explanatory if you piddle around with PHP any.

i used these LEDs https://www.amazon.com/ALITOVE-Addressable-Digital-Diffused-Waterproof/dp/B06XD72LYM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1509935755&sr=8-3&keywords=ws2812b+led+string

A Raspberry Pi

this power supply to power the Pi and the LEDs https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0KLECZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Heres the code https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LkXqiQbU6o7YZ9F1NESZTwvruubY4cTp

its just some PHP to scrape the metar and convert to flight condition and then some python to talk to the LEDs.

Schematics is plug the green wire from the LEDs to GPIO pin 18 on the R Pi.

I used a diode between power and the LED power as well. Cant remember why but I saw it one of the docs.

I run a cron every 15 minutes on the pi to run the PHP script and update the colors.

gotcha, i've used these 12mm modules before to make a 1920 LED matrix with a single teensy:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD72LYM/ref=s9_acsd_hps_bw_c_x_2_w

but it sounds like you're committed to the LEDs you have. I guess I'm just confused as to why you wouldn't daisychain all 4 TLC5940s to save pins and just treat each aurora separately in code

u/Ishidan01 · 1 pointr/flashlight

I think the TN4A will do you fine. It's just that I already own some D-cell powered motion detector lights, those would let me use Eneloops in them instead of D-cells.

Although to be fair the factory D-cells it came with are doing just fine.

Those look kind of handy actually. Have you noticed any flicker to them?

u/readytodo · 1 pointr/flashlight

Right the throw and diffusion are going to be opposing variables, just looking to minimize the throw loss as much as possible.

I found some pictures of that DC fix in action. http://budgetlightforum.com/node/28462#comment-535215
However it is hard to tell if it is right up on the light source, and its not a particularly strong light source. Do you know how it will do with a stronger light source (and multiple light sources) such as this one https://www.amazon.com/Equivalent-Waterproof-Daylight-Security-Floodlight/dp/B00JB12LGU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496281447&sr=8-1&keywords=led+flood+lighting ?
What will happen if it is touching the light source? Many of these diffusers seem to become transparent if they are right up on the light source, not sure if this one is like that because so far I haven't found the actual materials.
I guess I could try stacking them but according to the forum each one is like 3-5% loss in lumens so it would probably only be helpful if the stacks could be less than 3.

I am bringing an Aurora Borealis projector. Runs off usb. Gonna lay down in a vag bag and use it under the ez up or before bed in the tent.

Got this as well. Gives a nice warm light, its super long too. And you can mount the whole thing on a flag and use the remote to control it. I do think the multi colors would look cooler, but the warm white is more useful as a light.
