I had some 18ga wire laying around. No soldering needed. Bought the clear box at the dollar store.

If you have one of these jugs, you're probably car camping. Just bring a lantern!

If you're backpacking, these are pretty silly to carry. Buy a luminaid or a luci. If you buy through their sites, you can even donate a lamp to folks in need.

I've been talking about getting one for 6 months now, so my girlfriend got this for my birthday. I live in South Florida, so my house is typically 76-78F in the summer. Wood humidors are beautiful and work well for holding humidity, but 76-78F is not exactly the ideal temp for long-term storage of cigars.

The little blue light inside is pitiful, so I added some 5050 LEDs. I also ordered a custom drawer set from wineadors.com to replace the wine racks. It has 4 drawers, 2 shelves, all with black limba fronts. For humidity, I'm using boveda packs as I can get them for wholesale price. The monitor on the wall shows temp/humidity both in my house and the humidor, along with recording min/max. I'll post links below for everything.

I have 100 feet of those LED string lights on copper wires plugged into an outlet and run along the upper moulding all around my living room and dining area.

Basically these but longer: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014QMDRUC/ref=mh_s9_acsd_top_bFhWP_c_x_2_w/151-4304843-6498724?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-5&pf_rd_r=YFN0P0560EM6K9R7S0A5&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_rd_p=0dec4a3d-8058-5d16-8720-b8a314088eb5&pf_rd_i=3742221

They provide a fair amount of nice indirect light.

First buy a ZVS induction heater board then get a 12v 5amp power supply you need one with the green and black plug to wire into the device. Then you will need a momentary switch rated to 5 amps so that you won’t need a mosfet trigger. I used the /u/beasthoss induction heater build guide as my starting point. One thing I noticed was the color coding of the wires on the switch harness are different from those in the beasthoss guide. Use the wiring diagram that comes with your switch and you should be good to go! Let me know if you have any more questions. Have to go back to work.

My home isn’t very humid, so my ivies tend not to put out roots at the nodes. I use these command strip clips for my pothos, and it looks really nice! You really can’t see the clips unless you’re looking super closely.

Thanks. :) THis is actually slightly outdated too, I've since added a bunch more LED lights, blacklights, a LED changing skull and a plasma ball among a lava lamp. Still working on getting it finished and a new, better video will be uploaded.

And to answer your question, I got the Star Projector from Amazon. I know there's different brands but this should be it: https://www.amazon.com/Parrot-Rotating-Twilight-Hollogram-Projector/dp/B01518B1NK/

for batteries you'll need 18650's - rechargeable. and a housing for it or a battery pack etc, you can got to batteries + and they can make it for you on the spot.

My IH is for car use only so I just used a lighter type cord., its already at 12v DC so i didn't need to convert it.

I bought this power supply (link below) to build another one for home use but haven't gotten to it yet so unsure of reliability.

multiple portable chargers for phone, face/personal wipes, headlight instead of flashlight (easier to manage for those late night porta potty runs), flip flops for shower, pool floats instead of folding chairs (pack light since its not carside camping), snacks that wont melt (watch which kind/cliff bars you get), zipties to attach led lights like these/tapestries, super glue (jic) and an emergency kit (or if your mom is a nurse, just make your own with alcohol swabs, neosporin, all types of bandids/gauze and pain/allergy meds. you have no idea how many people will thank you for being prepared).

protip 1 : freeze a gallon of water along with other water bottles for your cooler.
protip 2: you can make a canopy with a tarp and tent poles but if you're not comfortable with making one, buy a beach umbrella for sure

The picture for it is wrong. It’s the black one from the reviews.

Based on this post by /u/htmlcinco, I would estimate that the product you are looking for is this Laser Stars Twilight Projector, most recently seen for sale on Amazon for $105.99 with a Prime subscription.

Oh I love my fairy lights! They're really nice to have to spruce up the occasional still life photo and I usually keep some on hand for the detail shots when I shoot weddings or things around the house.

I had this really awesome boudoir client (who I met here on Reddit actually!) and she wanted some pictures in her t-rex onesie drinking whiskey. We decided to wrap her in fairy lights just 'cause, and I was totally hooked. After that I picked up a pair of these guys from Amazon. They're compact and battery operated.

u/Virgoddess · 3 pointsr/MakeupAddiction

Yes, go back to IKEA! Somewhere near the end, around the lamps and ceiling lights, I found these cheap cable snake sleeves:
https://m2.ikea.com/us/en/p/rabalder-cable-organizer-white-20281419/

I also use these for cables under the desk after separating out of the snake and organizing under the desk:

These too:
https://www.amazon.com/Command-Damage-Free-Small-without-Packaging/dp/B0751TRS6Y/

And these are great for individual cable control:
https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Waves-Elastic-Cable-10-pack/dp/B001PGXKCS/

I've added to and removed from my setup half a dozen times since I last organized my wires so they're a mess again, so be aware that it's a constant battle.

Edit: these look pretty good too, am going to get some myself if I don't make it to IKEA soon:

This one which is over $150, or this one.

u/coffeemaxed · 2 pointsr/HomeNetworking

Get some of these command strips and run the cable along the ceiling or baseboards. Might wanna grab a box of ethernet cable and some crimp connectors instead of pre-made cables so you can get the exact length you need. The command strips will come off easily when you're done with the place so you don't have to worry about paint damage.

Run some cables to each part of the house and put up some extra access points. Old wifi routers will work fine for this if you configure them in access point mode. You can run multiple APs on different channels for better coverage. If you set all the APs with the same SSID and password, your devices will hop between them depending on signal strength although your connection will momentarily drop as the device switches access points.

u/autumnwake · 2 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

So here's my advice for making a living space you need on a budget. First, starting early is great! it gives you time to collect things and not panic!

  • It's summer so that means garage/yard sale time! If you come across one, stop and take a look. You never know what you might find as far as furniture or decorations or anything else! If you're able to find something, it's sure to be cool and unique from a garage sale. This will be a hunt.
  • Check out thrift stores as frequently as you can and try different ones in different cities! Stuff comes and goes and different cities have different demographics donating to their facilities. Similar to garage sales, it'll be a little bit of a hunt and you'll have to be able to see the potential among a bunch of junk. You can always try to recruit friends or family to do the hunting for you and tell them to keep an eye out for certain things you want to make it easier.
  • Craigslist for sale or free categories can have cool things too!
  • If you don't like the idea of used things or having to put in a bunch of effort to find things and you have an IKEA and Target near by I'd look there for cheap, simple but still cute furniture. IKEA also has decently cheap art and picture frames.

Specific things to look for or try:

  • Try looking in old art or art history books for prints of famous pieces of work
  • Look for out of date or unused calendars for larger prints of various types
  • Etsy can be hit or miss on price and you'll have to keep in mind shipping costs but it can be a good place to get some really unique things. This is a really good deal I found. Got some really neat artwork that way and would recommend if you think that those prints look cool.
  • Postcards can be a good way to get some cheap pictures
  • Frame interesting fabric patterns/prints or stretch over canvas frame even
  • If you're not super artistic(like me) get one of those adult coloring books and color some pictures yourself!
  • Try fairy lights like these if you like the idea of christmas lights but want it to look more mature and polished.
  • If you want to skip frames, use some cute washi tape to tape up pictures and posters. It's just pretty colored/patterned tape. Just be careful since you'd be putting tape on the pictures themselves you won't be able to easily move them or reuse them without possibly damaging the edges if tape rips the paper or loses its stickiness.
  • There's a million different DIY art and decorations so explore and try different things out!

And last thing: you don't need to have every decoration when you first move into the apartment. It's better to take your time and slowly add things you love instead of filling the space with things that are 'ehh, it's fine for now.'

I got this set of motion sensor LED lights, and they're awesome.

I have one set up facing out from the door of the shed so it lights up when I approach it (also helpful for letting dogs out to scare away critters), and a second one above the door inside so when I walk in it lights the whole thing. I only need the one inside so I'm looking for somewhere to put the last one. I can't recommend them enough, they use 3 D batteries though so I'm not sure how much that bothers you.

I have only had them installed for 5 months, but the batteries hold up no problem. I'd also say the range is fantastic.

We did lanterns with twinkle lights stuffed in them and a bit of dried green moss in the bottom of the lantern. Our favors were succulents from an Etsy shop and we used them as our "flowers" to brighten up the table (I did have to wrap them in burlap which took a few hours with two of my bridesmaids). We also used a mix of pink, white, pink/white, ivory silk flower petals from [another Etsy shop] (https://www.etsy.com/shop/RosePetalsEverywhere?ref=l2-shopheader-name) to sprinkle on the table.

I have this same set in a 65 inch with a Medialight LED bias light kit and these strips are easily cut down . Would have to ask the manufacture of yours what the steps are for doing the same but it should be able to. I used 3M Command clear plastic Christmas hanging clips.

They go on firmly but have a quick release pull tab attached to the adhesive strip for quick removal and I placed them in between every 3rd LED or so. I haven't even used the manufactures included tape behind the LED's because I want to be able to remove and move it for any future TV I buy.

I put the taller left side panel(front of TV left) back on the rear of my TV as 3 of the 4 HDMI ports and a single 3.0 USB port were still available just to the right of it and would give you a better pathway around that side of the set if you intend to cover 3 of the 4 sides. Here's some pics of mine.

Not sure about the cameras but these lights are amazing. These are 140 lumen but seem much brighter. They also sell them in 300 lumen variety. I've been runniing then for 4 months and haven't had to replace the batteries once. My neighbor calls them the "UFO landing strip lights"

I am using FLS-PP with this strip - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HBMN4YO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01

I also have the new Philips Hue Strip.

Besides being cheaper when you have lengths of 5m or so, the FLS-PP with this light strip produces much better bright colors. It is hard to describe, but while Philips Hue strip produces nice deep dark colors, it's brighter colors look washed out compared to the custom setup.

There is another slight minus of Philips Hue Strip, it's power adapter is producing a slight noise. Something you will never notice in a living room, but might be annoying if you will place it in the bedroom.

I used TaoTronics LED String Lights 33 ft with 100 LEDs and 2 Pcs 3 x1.5V AA Battery Holder to make the lights. It takes 3 AA batteries and cost around $15 to make excluding shipping and batteries.

The lights them selves are waterproof and pretty durable. I primarily use the lights for cooking areas and around my tent.

Hi! So I picked up some copper string lights and need help sourcing a good method to hang them. They'll need to be attached to both a ceiling and a wall and I want the visual impact of the securing device to be minimal (why I'm not just using push pins or thumbtacks). Something like these command clips would be perfect if they didn't use 3M--that shit always wrecks my walls way worse than a tack or nail would.

So, either a thumbtack with a clear, flat head or something like the command clip that sticks into the wall sans 3M strip. Or any other creative alternative y'all wanna throw my way.

Thanks!

Not that I am aware of. A remote sensor is doable, if you are halfway handy. It is inserted inline on the black wire that runs to the recessed light, and the sensor can be mounted just about anywhere that the light it triggers will not be falling on it:

That's the one I got. Worth it. I don't remember my dose..hm..I'm small bodied and have a generally low tolerance for all drugs so typically I'd trip off of one bottle of the blue robitussin.

What do you want to accomplish? I love the little $20 LED rectangles for most purposes, but if you're looking to light up a tree or something they won't quite cut it. I'd get a pair of these, see what they can do, and choose to either get more of those or get some better lights as well. - https://www.amazon.com/Spotlight-Waterproof-Changing-Dimmable-Security/dp/B01DIO7HKK/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1542401643&sr=8-18&keywords=RGB+Led+flood+light

By the way, there are way less affordable listings for these than last time I checked. This trade war is so dumb.

First, even though those are listed as waterproof, it is IP65 and it says not to soak/submerge in water. Not sure what your plans are there.

That aside, I think the general guidance is that these strips are limited to about 10-15m (2-3 strips) of length before the voltage drop is too much since the conductors in each strip is very tiny. If you are intending to run 30 m long, you may need to use separate 10m lengths with thicker conductor supplies running with the strip.

I recommend you ask the seller what the rating is for max number of strips that can be put into a single run. I would also ask what the wattage per 5m strip is for the RGBW. That will tell you if your power supply will have enough. I couldn't find it in the listing.

My bigger concern would be that a long parallel run at 50A might be a very hot cable and those strips may not be able to handle it (don't know the actual current draw because we don't know per strip max wattage). You might want to do a parallel/series arrangement to bump the voltage to 24V or 36V so you can cut the current by half or two thirds and use smaller conductors. There are similar power supplies in 24V/25A/600W and 36V/16A/600W configurations on amazon if you search.

For example, this similar strip of RGBW on amazon (not waterproof tho):

https://www.amazon.com/LEDENET-Bright-Flexible-Lights-Lighting/dp/B00HBMN4YO

Says per 5m roll: 5A draw, 12VDC, 60W per 5m

The question/answer section says no more than 2 strips in parallel long run.

If you were to take this example and just connect 6 strips, 30A total at 12VDC for a total of 360W. 30A seems like a lot of current. You would need 7 AWG cable to carry that which is 3.6mm thick (conductor without sheath). If you were making a tight array in a square light panel, you could get away with chassis current rating of 14 AWG but that is still pretty thick.

EDIT: If you already bought some of these strips and have them. You could use a bench power supply to find out exactly how much current each strip draws when 12VDC is supplied them.

And you'd recommend doing string lights along with the natural light? Or covering up the windows? Is there any kind of string light that would be better? I had my eye on these. Given the dimensions of the room (I don't know for sure, but somebody else estimated roughly 40' by 42'), I figured three of the 100' ones would cover it pretty well?

Something like this?

u/canada_rv · 1 pointr/vandwellers

Okay, I've got some numbers for you.

At 12.8V, here is the amperage:

approx 5 mA (= 0.064 Watts) - standby current, i.e. with LEDs off, this is what the unit uses to listen for the infrared remote control

approx 2.81A (=36 Watts) - full white brightness; all LEDs on

approx 1.40A (= 18 Watts) - full red only

approx. 1.35A (=17 Watts) - full blue only

approx. 1.30A (=16.6 Watts) - full green only

approx 0.04A (= 0.5 Watts) - red on lowest setting (at night, this is still bright enough to see your way around in the dark)

So if you have a standard 100 amp-hour deep cycle RV battery, you could run for 18 hours at full (very bright!) white to drain your battery to 50%. You almost certainly won't want it this bright, or you'll need sunglasses! 20 Watts might be a reasonable brightness setting.

Another option (that I've purchased) is a 10 Watt flood light:

https://www.amazon.com/GLW-Waterproof-Daylight-Spotlight-Equivalent/dp/B008XZAPV8/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1494371795&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=glow+12v+10w+flood+light

But it doesn't have configurable colour or brightness; it's either off or on. The LED rope lights are much more adjustable. I'm using two of the LED ropes (one along each long edge of the cabin), a 10W flood light at one end, a 20W flood light (no longer available??) at the other end, and another 10W flood light for an outside light.

right on right on.

In my experience those lighting things are kind of you get what you pay for ish, while LED's are a dime a dozen for sure.

this is the projector I have and it is very pixelated for your computer screen or movies but for milkdrop its perfect, it just has to be very dark.

But more like the other things your looking at I would suggest a UV LASER!! it instantly makes anything that glows in the dark, well glow or just your plain OG green laser if you can't be trusted with ultraviolet eye damaging power.

MOAR LASERS

I would suggest some glow in the dark pigment to mix with paint or glue for any and all places. Or you could paint a surface and draw on it with the UV laser.

My friend got this from his sister as a gift and left it at my house and, while kewl, I could buy much much much more mind blowing stuff for $100.

Here is the BOM:
Got these because they were black PCB, don't like the way it was waterproofed but actually worked pretty well probably more robust than the coated ones.

I also used some nice outdoor rated PSA foam tape to hold everything on along with a few black zip ties just in case. Wired everything and sealed with silicone. Make sure you don't serialize the strips they should be all connected in parallel so they chase in unison.
They are connected to my AUX power output using the standard automotive 12V plug. They come one when my bike does. Which is fine. If I want to turn them off you can do so from the app for the controller.

That's it. Now to start on the custom controller. Anyone connected to the CAN bus on this bike? That would be the easiest way to get speed.

Lol. I'm in this now. I am going to make a program that supports typical R / G / B / 12v 4 pin headers and the (DeepCool has it on their coolers, but its now pretty standard) 3 pin + power addressable RGB strips.

Like get a remind me for this. I am gonna make it happen.

Gonna use an Electron/NodeJS GUI for it and everything.

I'll begin with this project and go from there.

I will go as far as mapping each sound input and output device to any RGB strips connected to a PC.

Oh lord I'll even be using some of this code from the best rainmeter plugin there is.

Best part:

Things like these and thesewill be compatible.

If you're moving soon, I would recommend this. Battery powered, powerful, and hangs by 3 small screws, so it's easy to take with you.

u/tw0bears · 1 pointr/camping

I use one of these. It will last all night and then hang it outside for the day and bring it back in at night. I was surprised at how much light it put out.

u/Elphi- · 1 pointr/plants

You could look into getting a non-climbing vine like pothos and "train" it upwards by threading them through command hooks like these mounted on the walls outside, that way you can easily disassemble it if you need to. Here's a great instagram post with pics if you need help visualizing it.

u/Vlad_the_Homeowner · 1 pointr/homeowners

Probably not what you're looking for, but I can vouch for these. They're strong for a solar powered light, but not really suited for a path, more for lighting up trees or objects. I have them on top of my retaining wall shooting down, but I still had to make a holder for them that looked good. And you have to have a place to hide the solar panel that still gets sun. Again, not really for path but you talked about sprucing up the front yard, so if you want a good accent light, these work.

Hopefully someone has a rec. for a good path light, because there's a lot of lousy ones out there. Don't go too cheap, they're just dim and don't really do anything.

u/kilamumster · 1 pointr/landscaping

Not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, just a homeowner. But I'm guessing that if one has gone, the others will follow soon. How much lighting do you have? Have you considered replacing with solar? We've used stuff like this from Amazon and some larger-profile but similar lumens LED lights from Costco. I'd follow some of the reviewers' advice to use old garden hose to protect the thin wires from errant weedwhackers and such, but they've lasted in the mild PNW winters, and mostly give light until the wee hours of the morning, all night if the PV panel is in the brightest areas. One set has been out there for 2.5 years. Maintenance has been occasional clearing off leaves from the PV panel and repositioning lights when we moved some plantings.

u/wietoolow · 1 pointr/HomeImprovement

I have about 4 different locations with these LED strip lighting. I use Cat 6 cable to do the runs. For example many of my LED strips are RGBW so you need 5 wires to make them work. Well cat 6 or even 5 as you know has 8 wires nice solid core stuff that is easy to solder. I've even contemplated using a patch panel as a DC distribution point and using RJ connector but have not done that yet since I'm pretty much done adding LEDs. BTW old desktop power supplies make great 12 volt power sources. As a controllers I use this with my Veralite system.

I'd run some 12 volt tot he kitchen for sure for under cabinet lights. Stair ways are also a nice touch

u/fieryinferno · 1 pointr/wedding

Can you lay them on the ground at edge of the dance floor? Rather than use traditional string lights, try these on thin copper wire. They are very flexible and can bend in tight angles.
