Buy your relative a call blocker.

I use this one. I went from several telemarketing calls every day to receiving 1 in 3 years. All the box does it ask callers to press "1" if they are not a telemarketer. Strange, but it totally works.

This newer one makes adding numbers to your whitelist easier, but you really don't need a whitelist, except to add numbers for approved robocalls you are expecting. If you don't know the number, you can turn off the filter for a short time.

u/sacrilegist · 19 pointsr/hockey

Yep! Like this. but potentially uglier and more primitive looking, depending.

u/cyclefreaksix · 7 pointsr/Dashcam

Needs more duct tape!

But seriously, if I couldn't find a way to hide it under the pillar trim then I would use a couple of these:

3M CORDCLIPS 5 Black (Dark 3M VHB) Cord Clips to secure wires from your DASHCAM or other devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MT1W3IT/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ZLnVAbHYW13PQ

Sony again with their proprietary stuff.

The simplest solution would be to use the external battery holder, but i suppose that is lost to time.

The good news is, those gumsticks are available on Amazon or Ebay, but they are replacments not made by Sony. The bad news however, you'll need a charger. Are you from NA? If so, you might be interested in this one

u/Sigma1042 · 4 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

Yeah, more people alive actually remember when caller ID did cost extra and required buying (or renting) a special Caller ID Box for their landline

u/Wangfap · 4 pointsr/LifeProTips

Yeah I'm actually going to do this. I don't have eclipse glasses but I have one of these things and am just going to use this app in "no filter" mode on an old phone (Note 4).

u/nickichi84 · 3 pointsr/HomeNetworking

If you had a spare outlet next to the computer jack, you could use these too at either end. I plan using it to provide a desk phone for the wife in our computer area but i was the one installing cables so i made sure each desk had a full quad outlet installed for future uses.

im glad bluetooth mics arent an option. voice quality on ps3 was trash
I got a 2.5mm headset with an adapter. works great and is similar to xbox 360. voice chat sounds clear and mic is good and there is a mic volume switch on it as well so the sensitivity on these are low which is great. ive tried at least 10 headsets from the vita ear buds, the original psp headset and other brands such as logitech and I think this one works the best

there is also a mute switch and volume slider

here is the

That is just an in wall Leviton (or similar) home networking panel. Not necessarily for for security. It's mostly for central termination of CAT5 or RG6.
What your CAT5 is punched down into is a Leviton 110 block for phones. They are amazing for small offices and homes as far as wiring phones go. Generally the top is the phone line coming in and then it splits off into the other punch downs.
Also I would be careful about putting a switch or a modem in there because if the cover is put on the wall panel, things could get hot.

u/AutumnWindz · 2 pointsr/PS3

If you want cheaper options, you can get good, reliable stuff from Logitech that works on both PS3 and PC: Logitech H390 and Logitech 350

u/SendMeSteamKeys2 · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

Even though it is Uruguay the less than $10 thing just flabbergasts me. You are going to spend $1-3 on an adapter I would think.

How much is something like this set in Uruguray?

u/PerfectFaro · 2 pointsr/gaming

I have these. They aren't wireless, but the sound quality is amazing. They are USB, so I think they should work on the PS3 as well.

u/gastronought · 2 pointsr/HelpMeFind

This from 2006 describes the SIT (Special Information Tones) that used to tell a caller the line was disconnected. "Aha!" goes the dialing computer, and strikes that number from the list.

Telemarketers caught on, and the SIT doesn't work anymore.

Call blockers like the Sentry may help (and use several different methods of discouraging telemarketers), but no method is perfect. Some people really like NoMoRobo, but it doesn't work with all services.

u/rubyred138 · 2 pointsr/AndroidQuestions

I have these TaoTronics ones and they are awesome. Plus they are on sale for $16 right now (normally 26)

Sony MDRXB950AP and the Sennheiser HD 461i are what I am debating about. I said stay safe with Sony because I usually get them and have never had a pair I don't like.

u/Short_poster · 1 pointr/sex

The phones didn't have caller Id built in in the early 90's, but we had these little boxes.... http://www.amazon.com/GE-29016S-Caller-ID-Box/sim/B00005NGRQ/2. ...... So you never knew if they were watching.

So Amazon has senn 598 for $100 new, but you could even get some hd 429 for $60 on Amazon then add the modmic ($55). I included links below. That setup is more than $90 obviously, so if your want to go cheaper and you like sennheiser, you could gamble on this but the reviews are mixed and I have no clue if it's any good: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015X1CCKQ?ref=olp_product_details

doubt it. phones can plug into cat5 jacks. they're backwards compatible so to speak. you can't run internet on them, but you can run voice. it's rapidly becoming the standard to simply use cat5 jacks everywhere. can you unscrew one and take a picture? i would be willing to bet all of your wires are punched down to those 2splitters and bridged together. You could easily replace them with a couple of these and use some of these to connect to one of these and rewire the jacks in using RJ 45 T568-b standard or follow this video a quick toolkit will cost about 20-35 and since you've already got the wiring and parts should be pretty cheap. make sure that if you're no longer using the landline to pull the wire from the box to the Network interface for the phones. (unless it's DSL). may want to add a shelf underneath the media panel, although i've seen some creative people tuck a shitload of stuff into those media panels and it look quite nice. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions.

Edit: you can use one of these to quickly and easily trace out if all of those wires end in that cabinet or if some of them ARE going somewhere else. If they are I would check attic areas and other panels around the house. POSSIBLY they terminate outside, but doubt it since your Network interface box is in the basement.

u/HugeSaladFork · 1 pointr/cars

Laugh at me all you want but I use one of these. I keep up with all of my relatives on the hour drive. I have never had one of those small bluetooth headsets that was worth a shit. You get far too much ambient noise, particularly wind. What you need is a foam covered mic that sits right in front of your mouth.

u/Zerv · 1 pointr/minidisc

I'm assuming you mean the general gumsticks and not the LIP-4WM which you have to sell organs for to get. There is a thread on rebuilding those on the sony insider forums.

You can get a ultra cheap charger for about 6 bucks from amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XTDSF5V/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And some HRQP batteries for around 12 https://www.amazon.com/HQRP-Battery-1-528-231-11-WM-RX707-WM-FX675/dp/B01LNZMYN6/ref=pd_sbs_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01LNZMYN6&pd_rd_r=GD4G8W9BQ65HY804CNTF&pd_rd_w=Dcwkz&pd_rd_wg=OLt43&psc=1&refRID=GD4G8W9BQ65HY804CNTF&dpID=41ZHJJlSUzL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=detail

What I did is break apart the crappy charger (although it seems to work fine but I haven't timed how long it takes to charge) and get some wire tails/clips to connect it to a good charger (I have a very nice Powerex charger that does cycling/refershing and all the works).

I may be an idiot and totally over-complicating this, but I need help. I have a need to use a normal (think super-cheapo, $20 telemarketer headset) with a David Clark system. The particular unit we are plugging in to is the U3800 system, and I BELIEVE from my research the plugs that go in to it are 6.35mm (1/4)" PJ-055 style. See picture here.
In my line of work, people are constantly trashing these. The specific model I'm trying to find a substitute for are the 40410G-02.

We pay around $300 for these headsets and I KNOW there HAS to be a way that I can buy an adapter maybe like this and then a headset like this and stop buying so many $300 headsets!

Would the items I linked work? The picture of the plug I linked is actually from a headset that has a Push-To-Talk button on it, the model I'm looking to replace does not have a PTT button on the headset itself.

Please please help!

--edit-- I made a post for this, but I'm afraid it may be taken down, so cross-posting here. Thanks.

I use [Taotronics Bluetooth Neckband Buds](http://www.Bluetooth.com/ Headphones Neckband, TaoTronics Wireless Headset Magnetic Earphones In Ear Earbuds with Mic (Silicone Gel Surface, CVC 6.0 Noise Cancelling https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XXLWZPX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_kIYZHVtDAkjxw) with my Pixel and they are fantastic. Nice light weight great battery life and they work well with the Pixel. Low cost too.

Not sure what else you'd want.

u/Dontwannabeapirate · 1 pointr/xxfitness

I have these and like them a lot. Good music quality & they come with 3 sizes of rubber bits (no idea what to call these) so mine stay in my ears pretty reliably. The battery life is good, I charge them about once a week. Don’t know how true the waterproof claim is but I run in them & get pretty sweaty with no issues.

Bluetooth Headphones Wireless Neckband, TaoTronics Wireless Headset Magnetic Earphones In Ear Earbuds with Mic (cVc 6.0 Noise Cancelling Microphone, IPX5 Waterproof, 10 Hours Playtime) (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XXLWZPX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_atJaBb4TKQTMC

u/Thunder-cleese · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

These work great. Bluetooth Earbuds, TaoTronics Sport Headphones with Adjustable Earhooks, Wireless Earphones for Workout (IPX6 SweatProof, aptX Lossless Sound, 8 Hours Playtime, cVc 6.0 Noise Cancelling Microphone) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074M9946X?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

They don’t fall off because you can bend the ear hooks. One of the wires made a little noise in the jacket where it attached to the earbud but was easily remedied by adding a drop of super glue.

The sound is great and so far have been sweat proof and I’ve worn them in the rain twice with no issues

u/NightNinjaRaG · 1 pointr/headphones

Are you using Cisco phones at work? I got one of these for my setup and it works great.

u/SomeBug · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

You sir are correct. TETRAX IS THE SHIT. They gave me free samples at CES a few years ago and I've used them ever since.

The only downside is having a rounded metal piece on the back of your device (which doesnt bother me)

Other than that, clip it right on the magnet and it holds like a champ!

You can use the same mount for all sorts of devices (gps, accessport for tuned cars, etc)

I use the airvent one though.

u/cocobandicoot · 1 pointr/PS4

You can use headphones plugged into the DS4, that's not a problem. Note, however, that the headset that comes with the PS4 is a single, mono earbud with mic — so if you want full stereo sound (audio in both ears), you'll need to use your own pair of headphones. In addition, if you want full stereo sound AND the ability to voice chat, rather than just using your own pair of headphones, you'll need your own full, stereo headset (something like this). (Earbuds with attached mics, such as those that come with many smartphones, should also work.)

So, if you want to use the DS4 as your audio source, that's fine. But make sure you have the right type of headset (stereo headphones with a mic), if you're wanting the full experience.

-----

I'm not sure what your setup is, so I'm not sure why you would need the cables and adapters you listed. Do you have speakers at home that you're wanting to use? If so, there's probably another way to hook them up. Give me more info about what you're wanting to accomplish.

EDIT: You could also do as /u/lacho7994 indicated, and get a splitter for the DS4's headphone jack and use a separate mic with a pair of headphones. (Like this, except you don't need to spend that much on a pair of headphones... unless you really want to.)

u/CoolWeasel · 1 pointr/audioengineering

Oh dear, I don't a have a great understanding of what you just mentioned but I'm sure I can look it up.

The mixer

The headphones with microphone.

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate the help.

u/-inneedofhelp · 1 pointr/Advice

First off, do you know if you live in a one party consent state? If so you don't need to tell the other person you're recording the conversation. I do not know how this works outside the United States.

Second, you'll need something like this to record the calls and then a voice recorder with the thing I linked for it to work.*

u/theangelcrusher · 1 pointr/tipofmytongue

Something like this plus this would probably work.

u/notjim · 1 pointr/purebattlefield

I don't know why people give this advice. I bought one of those Zalman things and it's annoying as fuck. The "clip" (more like a little c-shaped piece of plastic) is way way too loose to stay on your shirt or headphone cables. It's constantly moving around. The only way I can get it to work is to fold up my shirt and shove it in. And honestly, this fucking mic is the only reason I wear a shirt while gaming, 9 times out of 10.

Personally, what I'm doing is going back to what I did before: buying a cheap headset like this one and using my regular music headphones. I just put the headset around my neck, and adjust the mic so it's in the right spot. The headset usually breaks every year or two, but for $13, who cares, just buy a new one.

u/Markus_Antonius · 1 pointr/gamingpc

I've had the Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 for several years now. It's stereo, not surround but it sounds great and it's not very expensive. I'm going to replace it with a wireless though but that's just a luxury :-)

Are you for real right now? Has cellular so taken over for the younger generations that they don't know what a telephone (RJ11) cord is?
