$1000- I would get the TCL 65R617 instead of the LG to give more money to the audio budget.

$300 (incl. shipping)- Denon X1400H

$486 (incl. shipping)- 3x RBH R-515 LCR

$225 (incl. shipping)- 2x RBH R-5 for surrounds

$75 (incl. shipping)- Monoprice Caliber In-Ceiling Speakers, 8in Fiber 2-Way (pair) for atmos speakers

$607 (incl. shipping)- HSU VTF-2 MK5 Subwoofer

All of those will total up to $2693, leaving $307 for cables, surge protector/ battery back up, stands/ mounts. If you want to spend a tiny bit more, you can upgrade the LCR to the R-515E models for an extra $300.

This will give you a killer, 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10, 5.1.2 timbre-matched set up with an incredible subwoofer that you can get right now (RBH speakers are on sale currently.)

Are we at a point where we can actually see the difference on Home TVs? I plan on purchasing this tv soon (hoping price will drop around Thanksgiving) and I'm curious if I will actually see much difference between regular blu-ray.

**For those downvoting I'm asking a legitimate question.

u/theoriginalharbinger · 17 pointsr/SaltLakeCity

First, you'll want to try KSL - you're more likely to get a bite there than here.

Second, unless that's some kind high-end 4k TV with an extended warranty, you're at about double the price you'll actually get. A used PS4 goes for between $200 and $400. Splitting the difference, say you'll get $250. Your PS4 is likely out of warranty, so that knocks it back a bit as well.

Given the holiday season is approaching, a used 50" TV is simply not going to command much. A new 50-inch Samsung 4k LED goes for about $850 on Amazon - used, that's worth maybe $500-$600. Black Friday deals and Superbowl Sunday deals means that this is quite literally the worst time to be trying to sell a TV, as most big box stores will have steep discounts.

Overall, you should be pricing those two items, combined, at between $500 and $800. You're never going to get $1300 for them unless you're throwing in a lot of games with the PS4.

u/Ohsighrus · 16 pointsr/xboxone

The Xbox One subreddit isn't very helpful here due to the moderation team deleting these threads. You'll have more luck of at /r/4kTV/ since your thread is going to get deleted. With a 4K TV, you want low input lag which on 4K tvs is hard to find. The current champion was released on 5/1/2018 which is the TCL 6 Series 4K TV. It boasts 12-14ms input where other brands are in the high 40+ms range. The TCL 6 series TV is nearly impossible to get right now, so expect 2-4 weeks shipping. You can get the 65" for $999, the 55" is $650.

These TVs are a hit or miss brand. Some people run into issues with vertical lines or dead pixels on arrival. If you run into this, keep the TV and use it until they can get you a replacement then send the old one in the other box back OR pick yours up from Best Buy and return it to store there.

When I ordered mine, Best Buy delayed my shipping 3 times but gave me $100 gift card. On the 3rd delay I canceled my order and ordered from Amazon. I paid $30 for next day air but the package arrived 3 days late. Amazon rep was super unhelpful and gave me a ton of attitude. A manager got involved and gave me $200 off the TV and refunded my $30 shipping.

u/Heratiki · 14 pointsr/PS4

Your budget and requirements just won't ever match up for a "good" gaming TV. Lots of HDMI ports usually come on larger TVs and generally you'll be stuck with 3. TCL is about the only TV under $300 that has a 40" model that's even marginally worthwhile. VIZIO TV's don't look bad but have strange ways of dealing with refresh rates and scaling. I'd honestly just save up another $50 and get something you will really like that will last longer.

Maybe this Sony?
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KDL40W600B-40-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00HPMCO46

It's an older model but usually on sale because of its age. Also it has a 60hz Native refresh rate so goes really well with the PS4. Also works well with HDMI-CEC on the PS4 so you can use the remote of the TV for just about every feature of the PS4 outside of gaming.

Looks like this

u/lazcas · 4 pointsr/cybermonday

I looked at that one and compared with a 42 inch LG on amazon that's like 20$ more. Ultimately I'm leaning towards the LG for following reasons.

  1. LG has lower input lag (good for gaming)
  2. LG is direct lit LED vs Samsung being edge lit. This can be preference but I've read people favor direct lit LED. Form vs function. Edge lit can give you thinner bezels and profile while direct may provide more even lighting.
  3. LG is a 2014 model vs Samsung is 2012

Both have 4.5 reviews on amazon but for the extra few bucks I think I will ultimately end up with the LG if I see no good cyber Monday deals today.

    LG Electronics 42LB5600 42-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED TV https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KVLT0A4/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_n1dFub12QCCXZ
u/pjoshyb · 4 pointsr/hometheater

For that price range the TCL 6 Series cannot be beat and it’s a really good display with FALD. The vizio p series is also really good but at the top of that budget.

u/DrMisterMisty · 3 pointsr/hometheater

Panasonic ST50 or ST60. It's not a 'half-decent' tv, it's an excellent tv. It's plasma so refresh rate doesn't really apply. Best black levels and lack of motion blur you can find in your budget. Right now on Amazon you can get the ST60 60" for $1500 and the 50" for $1000.

u/r_a_g_s · 3 pointsr/hometheater

Your comment got me thinking. At Amazon, the 50" S60 is $679.99, while the 50" ST60 is $979.99. I really don't care about 3D -- saw Gravity in 3D in the theatre, and while it was well-done 3D (there's a lot of crappy 3D out there), I think I still would have enjoyed it more in 2D. So other than the 3D, one fewer HDMI input, and no SD input, is the ST60 really $300/44% better than the S60? (How much difference is there between the "12,288 steps" shades of gradation of the S60 and the "30,720 steps" of the ST60?)

We have no money now (hoping for a good bonus from work in March), but I'm tempted to sign up for their "Special Financing for 24 Months" deal, that appears to apply to either TV, and that also appears to say, in the fine print:

> 24-Month Financing Offer: No interest if paid in full within 24 months. Interest will be charged to your account from the purchase date if the promotional balance is not paid in full within 24 months. Minimum monthly payments required. Offer is subject to credit approval.

Hmmmm ... $679.99/24 = only $28.34/mo, and $979.99/24 = $40.84. Wonder if I can get my treasurer (i.e. my wife) on board with this.... Does anyone here have any experience, good or bad, with Amazon's store credit card? ETA: OR what are the odds of being able to get one of these at a lower price in the next couple of months, e.g. Black Friday or Christmas/New Year's?

u/xooxanthellae · 3 pointsr/wiiu

For the same price you can get a 32 inch in 1080p: http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-32LN5300-32-Inch-1080p/dp/B00BB0ZTM2/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Samsung is a fairly safe brand at the moment. I would have said Panasonic a few years ago but they are in transition at the moment.

Concerning the Samsungs, they group their TV's together in series. Aka, the 4000 series, the 5000 series. All the way up to the top of the line 8000 series.

The 6000 series is the highest grade without all the Smart features. Something like a 6030.

Their Plasmas are pretty good too (I have one). I think the 5000 series is the highest line without the smart TV stuff. Something like the 5300 is a pretty good TV. There are still a ton of nerds that prefer the dark blacks of Plasma over LED. And burn in isn't really an issue like it used to be.

But at the end of the day, if you find a good deal, you find a good deal. And it is getting harder and harder to find non-smart TV's. So if you see a Samsung 7000 or 8000 series onsale in the same price range as the 6000 series, then I would buy the top of the line stuff.

Just don't pay extra for any smart features. As you will likely not use them for more than a year.

u/tinu1212 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

Someone above postet this link, that's seems to be the right model.

u/s0briquet · 3 pointsr/BBQ

Alright...
Ol' Florida boy here, so I'm aware of the pain.

First, you need a good offset umbrella. Get the offset, so that the pole isn't in the middle of everything. Deck chairs are up to you. Everyone has their own comfort level for chairs.

I recommend a big ass fan that you can put far away, and that can move air across your whole area. If you're so inclined, a fan mist kit can help a lot too. This may or may not be convenient (or necessary) for you, depending on your setup.

I'm an outdoorsy kinda guy, and I'd rather hang out outside all day than sit inside. As such, I recommend Adidas Climacool Shirts. They make other styles than the golf/polo shirt type, but the fabric is amazing in the heat.

Keeping with the staying outdoors all day theme, I always recommend a good hat to keep you cool. Hats are, of course, a personal preference, but anything with a nice wide brim, and plenty of ventilation is great.

Now, a cooler isn't necessarily required, however, if you're the cooler type, then you can't go wrong with a stainless steel patio cooler. If that's a little outside your budget, maybe go for a plastic one. Those Marine Ultra ones can hold ice for days without a problem.

If you've got the cooler, but you're more of a mini keg kinda guy, you could get a jockey box kit to slap up in a cooler. If you had a decent sized cooler, then you could still keep some sodas or water in there.

Now, I don't know about you, but when I'm chillaxin' out by the bbq, I like to get down with some tunes. You can get some outdoor radio setups for pretty cheap. We always managed to hide speakers under the roof overhang, and this seems geared towards it right out of the box.

Now, I'm not much of a TV guy, but if you're hanging out with the friends and family, especially in the autumn, someone's gonna demand to watch the football game. I have a crappy little 32" TV that I like to pull out and connect to the stereo, so we can put the game(s) on. Get one you like. That was just the first one I found for under $200. The one I've got is an older model from Sharp, and has a matte finish on the screen, so the viewing angle is very wide, and it's pretty easy to see, so long as there's a little shade over it. Also, $200 isn't a critical loss of cash if it gets rained on. Though in the 5 or so years I've been pulling the TV, it has never gotten wet enough to be a problem. (It rains nearly every afternoon during the summer where I'm from in FL).

Those are just some ideas, and not a comprehensive list. I didn't mention anything about mosquito control, as I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to Texas as "swampy".

u/savage321 · 3 pointsr/blackfriday

Rtings.com is a good review site to compare specific models.
IMO, you should get a TCL Roku TV if you are on a budget. If good HDR is important to you get the P series. The P series offers one of the best smart tv interfaces out right now, 3 HDMI ports, deep black levels (not OLED good) but good for the price. If you just want a good 4k set, and don't care about high quality HDR, get the S series. They are both good values at amazon right now with out a black friday deal. I'm not sure but I doubt they will be discounted much more. OLED is top of the line in terms of picture quality. Currently OLED is only made by LG and Sony. I prefer the LG mainly for its smart tv interface but both are remarkable. Perfect black levels are among the many positive qualities of OLED. Both the 2017 OLEDs I mentioned support 4k Dolby Vision and HDR 10 (so does the TCL P series.) Just be aware of burn in with OLEDs. Might want to get a warranty for your expensive TV. Good luck!

u/ManletPrideParade · 3 pointsr/oneplus

Depends on your budget and how fancy you get. My entire setup was under $1300. I got the TCL 65r617 Roku TV for about $1000, the VIZIO SB3621n-F8M soundbar for $180, plus about $100 for a stand to mount it on. Granted it's not the fanciest TV and it's only a 2.1 system, but I find it to work wonderfully for my uses.

u/Onifate · 2 pointsr/xboxone

Sounds like it's about time for you to upgrade your TV.

You can get a 40"-42" 1080p HDMI TV for quite cheap nowadays.

If you have some money to spare a Panasonic Plasma 50" is considered one of the best gaming tvs on the market.

u/Ewocc · 2 pointsr/hometheater

I just bought this, ran it through D-nice slides/settings and am thrilled with the picture quality. I mounted it on this from monoprice and it really opens up my relatively small living room. Good luck!

P.S. Stock speakers suck on modern TVs, check out /r/zeos for some help in that department.

u/frankhadwildyears · 2 pointsr/PS4

Dude, absolutely upgrade from that 22". There are great deals on 32" televisions comparable to the price of a Vita. Since you are using a 22" currently, I'm guessing you are sitting fairly close to it. Upgrading will let you sit farther away and be more versatile. And if you prefer to keep sitting close, 1080p is cheap and it'll look crisper at close range over a 22". (at that size, however, if you're already sitting more than 5ft from the tv, you won't notice much change between the two)

These are just quick examples...

amazon

EDIT: So I tried to link a tv on best buy, but it isn't working. There are some sub $300 TVs with 1080p at 32". You can go cheaper at that size too with 720p. And man, you don't know how much wanted a bigger screen till you get one.

Of course, you can shop more in depth, but depending on your current tv you could end up with a higher refresh rate and response time and an overall higher quality picture. Cheaper sets often skip on speaker quality to keep price down, but you can get a soundbar that will greatly increase your audio experience on ebay for $30 or so easy. I just got 160w LG sound bar for $35 and an LG 300w with sub for $110 on ebay. Investing in better home theater gear will increase your gaming enjoyment and move/tv watching.

Given how you're buying a pricey and powerful piece of new hardware, I think the tv is highly justified, or else you're squandering some of the wow factor the PS4 is aiming to put on your screen.

The vita might have X number of games that pull your attention, but ask yourself how much time you'll be spending using it as opposed to the television. Not to mention that the tv is a one time cost whereas you have to keep buying vita games. Personally, I have a few emulators on my Galaxy S3 and that's my mobile gaming right there.

Thats my two cents, whatever you decide on, enjoy it!

u/darkone355 · 2 pointsr/redditcasual

I have the asus monitor u posted but without the speakers. Any monitor ive ever had with speakers the speakers sucked. The monitor is great tho, I use it all the time on my pc to play games on and Im sure it will be great for the xbox.

I say if your gonna buy a monitor, buy a monitor without speakers and use the extra money to either get a decent headset or speakers. But, in my opinion when your playing on consoles my preference is playing on a tv. I sometimes play 2player games and you cant really do that on a monitor. Plus sometimes you wanna kick back on a bed or sit a few feet away from the screen and a monitor doesnt really let you do that.

Not sure why someone downvoted me, here are some of the current top selling mid-range 50"-51 Plasmas on Amazon:

u/Colonelwheel · 2 pointsr/PS4

$500 43-inch plasma with 720p: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN43E450-43-Inch-600Hz-Plasma/dp/B0076LXHII/ref=sr_1_12?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1371419052&sr=1-12&keywords=hdtv

$600 51-inch plasma with 720p: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN51F4500-51-Inch-600Hz-Plasma/dp/B00BEAFLYK/ref=sr_1_10?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1371419125&sr=1-10&keywords=hdtv

$700 51-inch plasma with 1080p: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN51F5300-51-Inch-1080p-Plasma/dp/B00BCPGNF8/ref=sr_1_27?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1371418422&sr=1-27&keywords=hdtv

With the 43inch TV, you're very unlikely to notice a difference between 1080 and 720. However, the bigger ones will make it easier to tell. The further away your TV will be away from you, the closer that 720 looks like 1080. If you're gonna be 5-8 feet away, go the $700. anything past 10ish feet and 720p is perfectly fine. I'm about 12 feet away from mine, and my 720 50-inch is just beautiful.

u/svirbt · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Well the problem right now is that most tvs people will recommend are going to be hard to find because they have since mostly discontinued last model year and are trying to sell out of them before this model year comes out which is usually between March and June. So as far as getting a good deal, now is the time just ready yourself for potential disappointment if you cant find the one you are looking for.

Getting to my recommendation. With the windows there and if there are no windows behind you, go for a nice plasma and mount it on that wall with an articulating wall mount. Just be sure that the mounting pattern on the back of the tv is at most 400mm x 400mm.

u/DirtyNamesGetBlocked · 2 pointsr/PS4

I'd strongly suggest checking out http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KDL40W600B-40-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00HPMCO46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1413863887&sr=8-1&keywords=w600b instead of either of those TVs. LG LEDs in particular typically have awful black levels relative to similarly priced competing models, mainly due to their decision to use IPS panels on the majority of their sets. Also, that Samsung set is an OK tv, but it is nothing to write home about.

The Sony TV I've recommended is going to have better out of the box colour accuracy than the LG, as well as better black levels than the Samsung, which will help picture quality out quite a bit.

---

Here's some further Reading:

LG
http://www.rtings.com/reviews/tv/lcd-led/lg/lb5900
The 47" Size they reviewed here did in fact have an IPS panel, though its possible the 50" variant uses a VA panel instead which will have a a pretty stark difference in picture quality.

http://televisions.reviewed.com/content/lg-50lb5900-led-tv-review/the-science This review may offer some support to the notion that the 50" uses a different type panel, as the tested results are quite different from those found in the 47" review.

SONY
http://www.rtings.com/reviews/tv/lcd-led/sony/w600b

http://televisions.reviewed.com/content/sony-kdl-40w600b-led-tv-review-3/the-science

Both offer great reviews for this TV

Samsung
http://televisions.reviewed.com/content/samsung-un32h5203-led-tv-review/the-science They reviewed the 32" model here, so it may or may not accurately reflect the 40" size, but it should at least give you a general idea. Despite a bright peak white output, black levels are pretty poor. This would be much better suited to a brighter room environment and not a mid to darker environment.

You mean if you limit yourself to big known brand names? You can get a 40 inch for under $400 if you get a korean or other south asia panel and the quality in most cases is nearly as good as anything else due to it being the same core panels/glass that the big boys use, just less bells and whistles

Video of X900E’s off-axis performance, colors shift, reduced brightness, and blacks become grey.

I have a 58” plasma with seating at 8ft and 12ft. At 12ft, it’s by no means large, but still easily enjoyable and all text on-screen is easily readable (easy to tell if a screen is too small or not).

I would likely go with the OLED.

Hey all, got the one x and an looking to upgrade my TV as well. I've heard decent reviews for this one as a decent budget option.

Anyone have experience with it or other recommendations?

u/enuct · 2 pointsr/xboxone

High contrast ratio, High refresh rates. Most of the sets I saw were 60hz + 60 hz to mimic 120, HDR10. I'll link the one I got, you can compare it to the previous models.

First step, download the Roku App on your smart phone, then pair via Blutooth to the TV (easy to do). Then, go to "expert settings" on your phone (in the Roku App) and make sure Gamma is set to 2.2 (or if you're viewing in a bright room, change it to your preference).,

To calibrate the TV, start a show to watch, then press the "*" (Star) button on the Roku remote (to the TV). You can now change the settings.

I watch most shows on Brighter, Vivid now, but I do change it up from time to time since the TV and remote make it quick and easy.

My settings as I posted in a review on BestBuy:

My Calibration settings:

Gaming (make sure "game mode" is on):

Bright game like NHL 19: Bright, Vivid.

Dark area in Witcher 3 or Battlefield 1: Dark, HDR Bright

Bright area in Witcher 3: Bright, HDR Bright

Bright area in Battlefield 1: Normal, HDR Normal (changed to Bright, Vivid recently)

Netflix Shows:

Darker show like Lost in Space or Luke Cage: Dark, HDR Bright

Brighter show like Disenchantment or Castlevania (or other 4K cartoons): Brighter, Vivid

Stranger Things: Normal, Normal, or sometimes I do Dark, Normal.

Youtube:

Bright 4K video: Brighter, Vivid

Normal 4K: Bright, Normal

Dark video like Sea of Thieves 4K or under the ocean: Dark, Normal

Sports:

Bright, Normal (I have noticed the "Sports" picture mode doesn't look good)

If you are wanting to "set it and forget it", then just do Bright, Vivid and it works great in most modes.

Also, in Advance Picture Settings you can change the Micro Contrast. Change this setting to your liking.

Also, check reviews on Amazon or other sites to get other calibration settings. I use these because these are what I prefer and they look great.

Edit:

Here is an example of additional settings provided off an Amazon review:

"Normal can produce really flushed faces unless the color setting is turned down - but also produces the sharpest most accurate picture in my opinion. Note: I believe these setting are pretty much the default settings except I turned down the color a bit.

- TV Brightness: Bright during mid day, darker at night (2 easy clicks to change) - or just keep it on Normal. * This TV is more than bright enough for bright daylight viewing. Saw some complaints that it's not very bright. It's more than plenty bright!
- Picture mode: Normal
- Audio effect: Theater (sound's not that bad - but by no means as good as a sound bar). I also have it toslink connected to an older 5.1 Denon receiver - sounds great).
- Backlight: 100
- Brightness: 50
- Contrast: 100
- Sharpness: 0
- Color: 42
- Tint: 0
- Temp: Normal
- Micro Contrast: Low
- All other setting turned to Off (noise reduction, etc.)

Love the picture coming over cable, antenna, and streaming. HDR on YouTube is stunning. I mostly use the TV to watch Cable TV. Don't have any streaming subscriptions. The picture is very clean, sharp, accurate color, deep blacks, etc. No complaints. Getting around Roku is a snap, and changing settings and all is very intuitive. So far so good, and it is the best TV I've owned. Price is great for what you get. "

you dont need an oled to see things fine.

You can get a last gen uhd or qled for under 1000 and still enjoy stuff up to 1440p or even 4k without it "ruining" your viewing like one of these https://www.amazon.com/TCL-65R617-65-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B079NJMFL8, just make sure your getting them in store with refunds available, when you go for lower end panels they have a higher likelihood of issues so doing it online could be more hassle than going back to the store

That TV is a TCL (Roku TV) 55-inch screen and I really love it. I use it a lot to play videogames (PS4 and Nintendo Switch now) and my PC games as well and it's amazing as well as the "smart" part of it.

I don't have cable TV so I just go by with Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc and works great for it. I had fancier TVs before (2 Samsung and one LG) but I am really happy with this one. Check it out other people's review at the Amazon link below

I bought the 50" variant of this one last week. I haven't hooked up my Switch to it yet, but I did watch GoT on it and I love it. Built in Roku, so it has that as its OS, but you can still hook up a Chromecast through the HDMI ports.

The 55" wouldn't fit in my TV area at my house, but maybe this would work for you.

Advice: get a soundbar or amplified speaker option. With a flat cabinet, the built-in speakers suck ass.

u/adremeaux · 1 pointr/technology

They were the best on the market at the time and they are still the best TV for their price today. At the $1000 price point, there is really not even any competition if you are going for the best image quality. (If you want the biggest TV for the money, look elsewhere.)

The heat isn't really an issue with the newer models. I had an older Panny plasma from 2006 that got quite hot and sucked a ton of juice from the wall. I bought a new model earlier this year that has an 8" larger screen inside of the same sized case, is 30% lighter, and uses 40% less energy, is 1080p instead of 720p and supports 3D. Oh, and the picture is borderline reference quality after calibration. It was the same price as the one I bought in 2006. God, I love technology.

For those that have been on the fence about getting a new TV, but are the kind of people that care greatly about image quality and high quality products... get one of these Panasonic plasmas before its too late. There will be no replacement for years to come. At the $1000 price point of a P50ST60, the closest competitor in the LCD/LED front runs around $1600, and the image quality still isn't as good. You aren't going to find similar levels of image quality until you hit $2000.

u/MyPackage · 1 pointr/technology
u/Rlight · 1 pointr/hometheater

Thank you so much! Very helpful. You confirmed many of my suspicions, that plasma is still a major force in the market and won't be outdated any time soon. The ST60 is definitely something I was looking at, since it seems to be the flagship of the panasonic plasma series. Since I'm not huge on 3d and the S60 is much cheaper, I think I'm going to go with that one. Now I'm just debating whether to wait until black friday.

I would avoid Insignia. They are Best Buy's own brand. Vizio can be hit or miss. Some of their models get good reviews, and others get terrible reviews.

A good option is this one: http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-32LN5300-32-Inch-1080p/dp/B00BB0ZTM2

I recently did a ton of research on tv's cause we plan to upgrade in the near future. At the moment, the most reliable brands are LG, Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony. Out of those, I found a few used tv's that match your requirements.

Samsung 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV $259 w/ free shipping

LG Electronics 32-Inch 1080p 60Hz LED $257.50 w/ free shipping

And if you can scrape together a little more money, you could consider this:
Samsung 32-Inch 1080p 60 Hz Smart LED HDTV $294 w/free shipping

I know those are all over $250, but they do have free shipping, and they are all very good tv's. Anyway, I hope you find something awesome! That makes me really want a good tv ;)

I'd love something nice for my son.

u/Arnoldslehrling · 1 pointr/PS4

Seeing as you're just about the straightest shooting TV expert I've ever come across, I must ask you one last question and take advantage of this opportunity (sorry). I understand that in a 32inch tv you will not see much difference between 720p and 1080p, however due to room constraints I will be sitting very close to my TV, so I do feel I may benefit from having 1080p with all games being native 1080p (don't quote me on that).

After doing some research and sifting through that excellent display lag database, I have found the LG LN5300. It comes in a 32 inch, is 60hz and full hd 1080p and from what I can see does not have any Smart TV features. On Amazon I can pick it up for about $360 including shipping. The 42" version also has a 28ms input lag rating, which I'm assuming will not be different for the 32" version.

TL;DR: is the LG LN5300 32" 60hz 1080p with 28ms input lag a good ps4 TV? Link LG LN5300 Amazon

You'll struggle to get true 120hz, you need a 3d TV that will accept a standard 120hz input which is a bit of a crap shoot unless someone else has already tried it out, 60hz is the best you'll probably manage.

For gaming in that price range I'd suggest this:

I'm pretty sure the only way to do that is get a new TV. However, I'm not an expert on this. Honestly I'd recommend a monitor over another TV. To put it simply, monitors are more efficient, get better resolutions for less money, and it's honestly worth all of the money you'll save just getting a monitor.

But if you're in a position where you don't/can't get a monitor for your setup: Here's a 42 inch 1080p 60 Hz TV: http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-42LB5600-42-Inch-1080p/dp/B00KVLT0A4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416676048&sr=8-1&keywords=60+Hz+tv

u/dont_be_so_critical · 1 pointr/hometheater

Well, honestly, at this point I'd almost recommend waiting a couple of months. We'll see everyone releasing their new models, which means last years models will come down in price even more, or perhaps something that would be better all around would come out in that price range. Though I can't imagine someone besting the D series for pure gaming.

Vizio is the only company making TV's with sub-20ms input lag currently, and actually the D series is the very best performer that is currently being made by anyone at any price at 13.5ms. It also has low motion blur, which cements it's place further as the best pure gaming TV out (for games like FPS etc at least). The Vizio M and P aren't bad either at about 18ms, but they have some motion blur issues, which subtracts from its gaming performance.

The Samsung JS7000 is a pretty good game performer with 27ms lag and good motion, but it's an IPS panel, and has really bad contrast. The JU6400 is cheaper, and also a good gaming performer, but has the same issue with contrast due to being IPS (im talking less than 1000:1, while Vizio's are doing 4000:1). You'd also be playing the Samsung panel lottery, which as rtings found out means that you could end up with worse input lag depending on the panel.

If I personally, were going to buy a 55in TV right now for 1000 dollars, I'd get the Sony X810C. However, my preferences are slightly different from yours, so I dont know how much you value one thing over the other.

Here is the rtings review. They still have it as being a great gaming TV with 35ms input (which is still better than most), no blur, so good for sports, and excellent contrast at 5000:1. You're going to get better PQ than the Vizio, slightly better contrast, as well as judder free movie playback due to a 120hz panel. However, I do watch a lot of movies, so the lack of judder and improved PQ is a big thing for me.

So, it comes down to what you're after. If you have no plans to really watch movies with it, and want the best competitive gaming TV that also isnt bad at sports, the Vizio D is the one to get. It actually might be the best competitive gaming TV you can even buy currently at any price. 13ms of input lag with no/low motion blur is no joke. You'll have to make sure you have it on the right input, and all of the image processing turned off etc to get that performance (same with any TV though), but the TV is capable of it. The contrast isn't bad either, with 4300:1 static contrast even after you turn off the local dimming (everyone recommends just turning it off).

If you look at the input lag chart on rtings, you'll see several samsungs with decent input lag, but be aware that they all are either well out of your price range, or use IPS panels which gives them very bad contrast.

So there's my 2 cents. If you want the best TV for 1000 dollars, thats also pretty darn good at gaming, get the X810C. If you want the best gaming television, buy the D series.

u/Synacku · 1 pointr/hometheater

After racking my brain and google and amazon and rtings and reddit for the past few days, I finally made a decision and pulled the trigger.

I bought this in open box condition for $940 no tax free ship

The input lag isn't THE BEST but it's 34ms which is already better than what I have.

Realistically, even if you did find a TV that supported a legitimate 240Hz refresh rate, you would only be able to make full use of it at 1080p due to how difficult it would be to run. But as others have said, most TVs use a 120Hz refresh rate in addition to some kind of other hardware tweaks to make an artificial 240Hz that doesn't look very good.

Take a look at this chart found on their Amazon page. See how it says 120Hz CMI vs. 60Hz without CMI. That means it is not true 120Hz.

That TV is listed as 2k video resolution, making it sound like it doesn't support 4k input at all. It is pretty hard to tell from online. It will sometimes say on the port itself what it supports (mine labels what ones support 4k@30 and which are 4k@60). Also the color quality might affect what resolutions it can run. My TV won't run HDR at higher resolutions and can only use 4:2:0, which looks a bit different than HDR or 4:4:4 or RGB. HDR also has higher input lag.

TVs have high input lag. Personally I can't tell the difference without using a TV and monitor side by side (even then maybe not).

Not all TVs support input at their max resolution/refresh rate. Some TVs (and gpus) don't even support 4k@60 HDMI input, not to mention 4k@120/240. They will be able to display that on native apps, but not over HDMI (and TVs don't support display port, so no luck there).

Sony 48" with Wall Mount bundle

Just noticed the TV you linked was a 4k TV. With a TV 50" or smaller, I don't really see the purpose of 4k, so I'd go with a 1080P myself. But if you want a 4k TV under $500 thats as big as you can get, this 55" TCL Roku TV is your best option.

If you don't care about the Roku stuff, want to stick with a more known brand and don't mind dropping to a 50" screen, this Sharp 50" 4k TV is another option.

Its base input lag is pretty good (though worse than the Vizio for sure) and its a 60hz TV, not 120. It does have very good blur ratings though, which is generally the reason you would want 120hz.

120hz isnt a scam or anything, but it doesnt do as much as people think it does - including me. I went out of my way to buy a 120hz TV for my main TV because I was told it was better for gaming, but if you look through rtings.com there are plenty of 60hz TV that do just as well with blur as 120hz TVs. 120hz would be more important if you were using it as a PC monitor.

Personally, I am getting a new TV exclusively to play my PS4 Pro on (and watch football sometimes) so having decent HDR is important, but a 63ms input lag is really bad for games. I wouldnt get the Vizio if youre planning on playing a lot of HDR games on it. It also costs $350 more and it doesnt seem to have enough advantages to warrant the price.

If I were looking for a larger, more expensive TV this would be the one I would get over the Vizio - https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN49KS8000-49-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01D98AQ30

There really is no way to nail everything. Though, the Samsung UN49KS8000 does have good input lag, 4k and HDR at 49 inches under $1100. The input lag at 4k with HDR is 21.1 ms. The color gamut for Rec 2020 for this model is roughly average for high-end TV covering about 65% to 75% of the gamut.

If I were buying now, this would be the one I'd get. That said, my Sony Bravia from 2011 is still going strong and I probably won't buy until after I move in a few years.

Thank you very much. This is exactly what I was hoping to learn about.

My current Samsung has the Clear Motion option (or maybe it's Auto Motion Plus), but I always turn it off. It makes everything look like a soap opera. Besides that the TV has been great. I just want something a little bigger.

Picture quality is important, but I can live without 4k. We watch all our shows and I play my one game through Xbox. I will be investing into the new Scorpion in the future, which I believe will be 4k capable. Like I said, that's not a huge deal to me and if I can get a great deal on a 50-55" that does not support 4k, I'm okay with that. Smart TV also isn't a selling factor. It all depends on the price difference between the capability of 4k.

The guy who posted the Target ad shows this TV that will be on sale: https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN50KU6300-50-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01E69VEE6#productDetails . I searched for it on rting.com and the picture quality is rated as fair. It apparently suffers from constant judder. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 24/50/60p video, but I tried to find it on the TV that I posted and I can't seem to find it. I'm going to assume maybe you mean frames and that current model does not achieve 20/50/60p video without suffering from constant judder.

I'm going to go do some more research. I don't want to come off as someone asking you to do the research for me, but you seem to know what you're talking about and I have to ask if you were in my shoes - looking for a TV in the 50-55" sized range that produces great quality judder free, 4k not hugely important (depends on price difference), and without smart options, what would you recommend?

Yep! That's one of the three I'm looking at.
The other two I found are the Samsung KU6300
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E69VEE6
It has a phenomenal pricetag, and is a great all around contender with low latency and fantastic image qaulity, but it's color gamut is poor enough to make it questionable whether it really counts as an HDR tv. I've seen some rumors that a hotfix is coming that will fix the color gamut, but I think that's a load of crap.

and the Sony X800D
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FWIEO6A
Fantastic color gamut solid all around performance and a good but not great pricetag, BUT it only comes in 43 and 49 inch, and 49 is my minimum size.

It just feels weird to me to go out looking for a new TV and only find 3 real options with two of them coming from the same manufacturer.

u/fl3x0 · 1 pointr/4kTV

X800D - 49" - $750 @ Amazon - you have 30 days to return without penalty, so you can still pick up the X800E if this one doesn't work for you.

u/TheCheshireCody · 1 pointr/PS4Pro

Thanks for the suggestions. The TV, a Sony XBR49X800D, definitely supports HDR @ 4K. I can watch 4K with HDR on the TV's Netflix app, for instance.

I considered that the issue might be the receiver, so I did try connecting the PS4 directly to the TV but got the same results. The TV's firmware is updated, although I suppose I should check to see how (or if) the receiver's can be updated as well. The receiver, an Onkyo - I forget the model offhand - is supposed to support 4.4.4 passthrough, so also not likely to be an issue. Since bypassing the receiver still didn't produce 4K HDR through the PS4 Pro I don't think the receiver is contributing to the problem. I even dropped $12 on a pair of new HDMI cables just to be absolutely certain that I had all the right hardware. I've tweaked the settings according to a dozen different sites and videos, all with zero success. At this point, short of getting a professional installer to look at it, I'm stumped.

Amazon has the 49" for $648 ($150 off!!!), so at only $50 more than the 43", that'd be the one to get.

I just made the jump to 4K with the LG OLED65C7P and I am incredibly impressed so far, it is just a fine piece of technology. I'd almost gaurantee a price drop within the next month or so, so I'd wait a little bit.

I'd also pick up a AV receiver with HDCP 2.2 support in order to eliminate the possibility of needing to upgrade any time in the next 5 years. The one I am getting is the Denon AVRS510BT

And Finally, unless you have any means of accessing 4K UHD Content via Netflix/UHD Blu Ray Player/ Game Console, There's really no reason to upgrade to 4K just yet.

Make a list of what you want, and cut it down to the necessities to start off.

It seems so hard to find a TV online with low input lag in the specifications in Singapore in 2019.

I'm trying to find a <20ms input lag, 4K, 43" TV if possible. Primarily will use as a computer monitor and switch dock display.

The best I've seen is only available in the US and I am contemplating using ezbuy to ship it over, meaning extra costs. It's the TCL 43S517 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07986PJ7M/)

Keep your eye out for the new 5 series as well. Just to make the choice even tougher. Sorry!

From TCL: "The great features added to our S405 on our new 5 Series include Support for Dolby Vision, Wide Color Gamut, as well as picture performance improvements such as our iPQ Engine and HDR Pro Gamma, all wrapped in a great new cosmetic design!" The 49" is on Amazon, the 55" should arrive shortly.

Personally I'd go 5 series or 6 series. 6 series might be $599 at Best Buy if we get lucky and have the option of a lesser remote = cheaper price again this year. And the 5 series will be about $499.

This one is a great option. A couple buddies have this model as well as myself and we love them. all are holding up well, plus the 49 inch is only $319 and its got proper HDR support. I believe it has bluetooth support for your headphones but if you didn't know ps4 and xbox both have this already built into the console if a tv model didn't have it, if that's what you are gonna use it for. Its a decent budget TV for gaming, but the HDR is very entry level. I would advice paying a little more and get a better TCL, or consider a Samsung TV. TCL and Samsung both have good input lag and often great contrast. I have heard Vizio is solid too, but apparently its input lag is not quite as low?

If 4K maters to you, budget LG isnt the best option, and they'll usually also have a low contrast ratio. Their OLEDs are great, but the cheaper models use WRGB pixel structure which have some problems displaying 4K picture accurately http://4k.com/news/lthree-of-lgs-4k-tvs-offer-pseudo-uhd-and-a-raw-deal-for-consumers-uh6400-uh6100-uf6800-16649/ This still applies to their newer budget models.

If TCL is something you want, this year's model will probably provide a good bit better HDR performance. There doesnt seem to be many reviews up yet, but the impressions I have read have mostly been pretty good.

Rtings just reviewed TCL's R617, so I guess S515 is going to be next.

I have a 34" 1440p 144hz Ultrawide, a 55" 4k TV, and a Rift S. I will only race on the Rift S. I try to race F1 like once a week (pretty much after the real races get me pumped) but get bored of 2D pretty quickly. Super annoying because that game would be a ton of fun in VR. Anyways, I really only use my TV for a couple of hours in the morning. I'll have CNBC on in the background while getting ready for work and getting some morning trading done. When I come home I pretty much go straight to the computer.

I'll put my rig right in front of my desk so I can see the monitor. Just so I can navigate iRacing and watch Youtube in between races. I wouldn't really buy a TV unless you really think you'll use it for other things or if you like 2D racing (which is tough after getting used to a decent VR setup). Also, if you do go for the TV make sure it has a high refresh rate. Preferably 120 but at least 60 some will use marketing lingo to say something like " 120 hz CMI" which means 60 hz but slightly better. If you're looking for a sweet budget gaming TV I have the TCL 55S425. It's a badass TV for the price - 55" , 4k, gaming mode, ~10m/s lag, 120 hz CMI for under $300!

Personly, I'd put the money towards a better wheelbase if you need it. Or save it for the next-gen of VR in a year or two. Because I can promise you when the next-gen VR headsets come out you're not going to care about any 2D monitors.

Thanks, will explore that!

Two quick follow-up questions.

  1. On Amazon, I see this 2019 TCL 55S425 listed on a significant sale for $300. The TV specs look very similar to me, but is there an advantage to that 2018 TCL 6 series?

  2. Second, I see these nice TVs advertise themselves as being capable of "4K Ultra HD". Is this capability only meaningful when I have specific video content that is able to produce that output (like some Blu-Rays, some movies with the highest tier Netflix subscription, etc, as I understand most video isn't of that quality). Or is the improvement in video quality going to be meaningful, even if I'm just streaming more typical movies.

I bought this Hisense TV in July 2016. In December 2016 it got a firmware update that enable HDR. Keep in mind this is the cheapest entry level TV with true HDR. It looks pretty good for entry level. Of course it won't compete with the higher end models due to the quality of the 4k screen but if you want to experience HDR for cheapest possible then get this.

Btw the true firmware verison should be V00.01.00a.G1027.

That has the HDR update. Anything less that G1027 does not support HDR over HDMI 2.0
