I did a k-suspension harness, hella h4 bulbs and rampage housings. love how much light they put out without looking obnoxiously bright like LED lights. At the very least you should do the harness. Makes a world of a difference.

u/Superunknown_7 · 11 pointsr/cars

Holy shit, guys. You just buried /u/sainisaab because you have no idea what the fuck you're all on about.

There are HIDs made specifically for reflector housings. They are designated with an "R" in the bulb number. "S" is for projectors. If you actually look at one, like this D2R, you'll see part of the bulb is masked off to reduce output. Here's a D2S (the projector bulb) to compare.

Some car makers include these bulbs stock, from the factory. They are not the blue ones you see retrofitted all the time.

So it is actually a 3 part ordeal.

The actual fog lights since my car didn't come with them, and the stalk. Then I did some c-shaped drl since I have leds in my high beams and the factory drl doesn't work with leds, but then the c-shaped drl didn't work for a little bit so I bought the drl turn signals, and then the previous c-shaped ones started working again. I will just post all of my mods below:

I had my rims done by a local company, they are the factory 16" painted gloss black. My mazda emblem is actually a long story, but essentially it is just scuffed up with sand paper ready to be painted but I liked the look and stuck it back on the way it is. I have also installed car play, and 3D printed a shift knob. The factory bose system was a little lacking and put a small under seat sub in to help fill the sound, but am still not happy with it, so that's a future project.

Some near future plans for the car include the aero kit, and I'll post the links to those here too:

Just put these in your stock headlights.

I just changed the bulbs to brighter ones. Upgrading the entire headlight assembly would be too expensive for me. These are what I got and they are better. Not perfect, but as much as you can expect from only doing bulbs, hope this link works: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00U1OL44G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_HxSJDb4W3QPNE

Did that as well, with an LED replacement.

Pretty easy to replace as well.
Leave the two torx screws under the light alone, but unscrew the 5 hex screws, then you can reach in, and pull the assembly out to replace the bulb.

I can’t help with headlights info, but I have a 2015 3 and did the LED Interior, reverse, license plate and parking lights upgrade. Really pretty easy and much better light all around. I used these and they all are still working great:

Deets:

  • Time to install: ~15 minutes
  • Parts: Philips 12834UNIX2 X-tremeVision LED Fog Lamp (Yes, you can find cheaper bulbs, but generics they are always hit or miss, and claims of 9 bajillion lumens are usually a joke. YMMV.)
  • Tools required: old shitty pocketknife, made in China, dull as fuck.
  • Nice to have: wheel ramps, chocks, coffee.
u/Tier_1_Masturbator · 4 pointsr/Trucks

I have these as my reverse lights, and holy fuck they are bright.

u/Agegamon · 3 pointsr/XVcrosstrek

I did low beams about 4 months ago. I purchased these. They're a direct swap out for the stock low beam. Ignore the bullshit about "200% brighter," they're about 10% brighter at most, but they don't have any fans which is a huge win.

I know the diode dynamics SL1 bulbs are good, too. I just didn't want to wait 4-6 weeks at the time as I'd just burned out a halogen and was pissed off.

THE MOST IMPORTANT thing I can tell you is: properly re-aim your headlights after the install, regardless of what you get. The ones I bought were really good about glare, and I didn't need to do much. (Sorry for being snarky if you already knew that!)

u/uniqueusername740 · 3 pointsr/mercedes_benz

No they are regular halogens with a permanent blue tint which filters out the yellow components of the light.

Turn signals (front and back): https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0774HQC8Q/
I was hesitant to spend $110 on bulbs, but these things are beasts! plus they have the resistors built into them, so no splicing wires or anything. Totally recommend them
The front bulbs were the easiest to replace, just pop the hood, locate the bulb, twist the housing out and pop the bulbs in. The ones in the back were a bit of a pain. Pop the hatch, and where the door is normally closed, to the inner side of the light houses there's a small plastic panel, that just pops off. Behind it is a set of #10 (I believe) bolts. Undo those. The housing assembly takes some loving to get out, but it just pulls straight back -- I broke a tab off trying to go side to side... It goes back in and latches fine, but, learn from me: it goes straight back... Even though it doesn't seem like it does. Then once it's out, replace the bulbs as usual, reverse the process to put it back in.

Backup Lamps: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01LX4FMD1/
The backup lamps are just covered by a plastic panel on the hatch door that pops out with a pocket knife or small flat head screwdriver, then the bulb twists out as usual.

Most of this was figured out first hand, or from the owner's manual.

As for my internal lights so far, I've only replaced the one above the back seats and the ones above the front seats. The back seat ones pop out with a knife super easily, whereas the front ones were more complicated. I took some pictures of that process and uploaded them here: https://imgur.com/a/YJItuhz -- Basically, the whole module (lights, buttons, sunglasses holder, etc) all comes out, then you replace the bulbs from the back side. The bulbs themselves I picked up from Canadian Tire, which was just a run of the mill off the shelf LED bulbs

Buy a pair of Hella 7" Headlamps (ECE), and this.

The lamp housings are european code (ECE or E-code). Technically not DOT legal in the US-- but is your inspection station going to inspect your headlamp housings?) These have a sharp cutoff so they won't blind other drivers. I've been running them for years and I love them. The pattern is far superior to DOT lamps-- it tends to really throw the light forward from the bulbs.

The wire loom from ARB is made of a much thicker gauge wire than the wires that are currently driving your headlights. The same bulbs will run brighter with this wire loom upgrade, but I found that if you add new housings (with nice clean clear glass and a good light projection pattern), and a pair of high-quality H4 bulbs, your headlights will work with the power of a thousand suns.

For bulbs, I'm currently running Sylvania SilverStars, but in the past I found out about IPF Fatboy II 80W/60W bulbs. The low-beam is actually higher than the high-beam wattage. Not sure why or how that makes sense, but these are a seriously great upgrade. Be warned, they run very hot and are susceptible to vibration damage (moreso than other standard 55w bulbs). Don't expect these bulbs to last more than a year or two. They're intense, though.

Hope that helps, because that's what I did to my Jeep. I also added a pair of Hella driving-pattern auxiliary lights on my stinger and a pair of 4" Delta fog lights on my front bumper.

u/smelllikespirit · 3 pointsr/mazda3

So installed my fog lights today. It was as easy as some youtube videos made it out to be and I'm quite happy with the complete look now. They do have a slight gap between the plastic trim and the housing but it doesn't bother me. I did make one stupid mistake that I cannot believe I did not notice until everything was installed. I did not get the fog light switch with the auto headlight option since I did not pay close attention to the ebay listing. False advertising by the seller's first image, but also my fault for not looking at it more closely. In case anyone was curious I figured out how to hook up the LED DRLs. Turns out that the red wire goes to + battery, black wire to - battery and tap the yellow wire into the ENG IGN fuse second to the top right corner. I upgraded my headlights to Auxbeam LEDs and they match the DRL quite better than the Kensun LEDs, which are now being used for the fog lights. The Kensun LEDs aren't as bright and shine a bit more upward from the edges compared to the Auxbeam.

u/Miguel30Locs · 2 pointsr/Lexus

If you're interested you could change out all the interior lighting to LED. The door courtesy lights. The window visor lights. Trunk light. Parking lights. License plate light. Switching to LEDs will modernize the car.

I used these LEDs

Out of the ten, one was flickering on me. But the others have been working properly. Makes my car look really nice.

The only thing I haven't changed out yet is the side mirror lights because I believe they're quite difficult to change.

For headlights:

  • Hella E-code housings
  • Sylvania Silverstar Ultras
  • Headlight harness

For LEDs, I don't recommend them yet for brake or running lights. JDM ASTAR make pretty good conversion bulbs, but they can still cause problems. It's a pretty expensive can of worms.

For everything else, let him decide. Maybe give him some gift certificates or something. He's going to be itching to spend that big wad of deployment cash anyway when he gets back.

Valid point. But it’s his car, I won’t tell him what to do with it. At least you can still see his damn brake-lights.

I ‘m really happy with the taillights :) They look great and they were super easy to install. It’s all plug and play since the resistors are already wired in. They’re sold by K2 Motor and they’re super affordable on eBay. Only gripe is that they didn’t come with LED reverse lights, you’re expected to transfer the incandescent bulbs from your old lights. Easy fix, I got these LEDs and they fit just fine (and they’re super bright!)

These are the HID bulbs I bought for my 2005 - your 2007 may need slightly different ones. If you don't want to do installation yourself, shop around for a place charging sensible prices. I used a place in San Francisco called Luscious Garage that does it for a fixed price.

u/Archerweiss · 1 pointr/hondafit

The LED bulb has a heatsink on the back, making the physical dimensions of the bulb too big for the Honda Fit's housing. You are correct in saying it's the same bulb because it is the H4 equivalent. Other cars use that same style bulb but have larger housings, making it a better match. The Honda Fit is just not one of those cars, unfortunately. I use these bulbs for my Fit

It's really hard to capture the glow pictures, but it's super easy to try for yourself, and the LEDs are not expensive.

I replaced the puddle lights under the mirrors, in all four doors, and the reverse indicator lights. They are all brighter than stock and the same white color temperature as the overhead console lights.

u/MrSlaughter1775 · 1 pointr/Pontiac

Haha, yeah I didn't take that photo. My Bonnie has fabric seats. I believe it is the SE, but I'd honestly have to consult my owner's manual to verify that information. Regarding the lights, I bought these turn signals (only fit in the front, according to Amazon), these for the rear turn signals, and these to help with nighttime visibility (and they are AMAZING!). Everything was very plug and play, and it made me realize that working on my baby may not necessarily be as complicated as I once thought. The only issue I had with the installation of those parts is the hyper flashing of my turn signals, but that seems easy to correct and I've already ordered the resistors recommended by Amazon.

Edit: I'll probably end up ordering more for my brights and tail lights once I get some more money to play around with. I've spent too much on those listed above, a seat cover set, floor mats, a headlight restoration kit, and an impact drill. My wife is about ready to kill me! :P

Ford led bar upgrade and puddle lights under mirrors (http://www.daytimebrightlites.com/Daytime_BrightLites_Running.php) I didn't do turn signals since I didn't want to mess with the stock wiring of the car.

Unfortunately I don't have before and after pics.

I had LEDs in the halogen housings and the distance was better than the Anzos. But there is more width with the Anzos. I plan to get different, better, LEDs to see if I can get more distance.

HID still perform better than LED in projectors, but in my opinion LEDs are easier to install. As seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUxfA7RnK-0

I did not get the switchback set, but I did upgrade all bulbs to LEDs.

3rd Brake, Cargo, and License Plate

Lastly I use Forscan to address hyper flashing and enable "Bambi Mode" (fogs stay on with high beams). I did not have to splice any wires.

That's really awesome that you say that I bought h4 stuff on Amazon and I'm gearing up to install.

Anyone have any experience? Is this a good setup? Tough to install?

That are supposed to drag on the rotors? And okay...well would something like this be okay? Until I get the money for HID or LED headlights?

No the brightest are Philips X-treme Vision.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1OLK86

But personally I prefer the Philips VisionPlus as they are half the cost. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U1OLDRE

u/born_again_atheist · 1 pointr/chevycolorado

I bought a pair of these and these for both low and high beams and have not had one issue with my backup camera.

u/ATRAZiiNE · 1 pointr/mazda6

Usually for fog lights you need to have it wired but Mazda has it pre wired. I installed fog lights as well as have everything LED put in. In terms of the actualy LED bulbs all you need to do it plug them in.

here are the ones I bought.

What do you think between these three options:

LASFIT

Aukee

Hikari

u/kidwuf · 1 pointr/MINI

Try replacing the stock halogens with one of the Philips Vision series bulbs. The guys on NAM love them and say they really do put out way more light without the added heat issues of some brands.

Philips VisionPlus
Philips XtremeVision

The hard part is finding ones that are short enough to fit under the lense.
I found these:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DRBKCZC/

I can not attest as to their quality or longevity as I just got them, but they fit!

u/kingsqueak · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Try one of these bulbs. Aside from that, a pair of driving lights would be the next cheapest option, LED would be the ideal.

The ones you posted are more affordable, I chose these because the material seemed more durable and they were. These were a little more pricier.

Using reddit mobile so forgive me. I have a different pair of headlights on my RAV4 which use H11 instead of 9005 but this the [LED kit I used](SEALIGHT 9005/HB3 High Beam H11/H9 Low Beam LED Headlight Bulbs Combo Package CSP Chips 6000K https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07K438ZQD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_eiZ2DbRYYT5RC)

I assume you are talking about the low beams. If the housing are stock you need two D2R HID bulbs. Always replace left/right bulbs at the same time.

High beams are 9005.

I bought some auxbeam LED's off amazon, they are super bright, and not overpriced like cyclops. LED light also has a weird way of catching anything reflective, so you can see street signs etc forever ahead of you.

I have this particular model: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G16BRJY/ref=twister_B01G8DI306?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

u/ChickensAndBeesOhMy · 1 pointr/FJCruiser

For backup lights, I switched to these which were much brighter.

For dome lights, I switched to these, which were also much brighter (and whiter) than stock.  Power consumption is dramatically less than factory incandescents 0.7W vs. 6.7W so you don't need to worry about battery drain.
