lol, They are like $13 on Amazon. You don't have to kill gramps.

u/jamie79512 · 20 pointsr/whatisthisthing

If you're open to alternative hidden bars, I've always liked the globes. It's much cheaper.

And you can go even cheaper with the table top version.

u/vyme · 17 pointsr/fermentation

Vinegar + baking soda is definitely the most cost effective option, but if you've got an extra $8.50, this stuff is great, and a bit easier to use. It's just CO2/argon/nitrogen.

Nice thing is, it's a spray can with a straw (think wd40) so you can get right down to the water level to force the oxygen out. One can will probably last you years. We sold it at a wine shop I worked at, and it's a really solid product.

u/HermionesBook · 14 pointsr/greenday

I don’t drink but my boyfriend used something similar to these when we went to Warped tour and he’s planning on doing it again for the Aftershock festival. If you search “sunscreen alcohol flask” you’ll get a lot of results. It comes with a fake seal to put on it too.

The one he bought leaked but it seems like these ones are good. It’s kinda funny to see somebody drinking out of a sunscreen bottle too lol

You put bottles of alcoholic beverages upside down in it. Then you place a glass under the black plastic things and push upwards, dispensing yummy drinks. http://www.barproducts.com/media/catalog/product/cache/2/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/f/i/final-touch-6-bottle-dispensing-carousel-bpc-800.jpg

Most flasks are made the same, they are just re-badged chinese made. Stanley makes a pretty sweet one. I have a sterling silver one which was a great investment. They can be had for like $100 and can be sold for the same at any pawn shop in a pinch or traded for a tank of gas etc... Nalgene makes one also that has a shot glass and a cup built in...

There's no "bar" just beer kiosks around with like 2-3 draft beer choices.

You can't bring anything in, but that just means you need a flask and $2 for a coke and you're in mixed drink heaven. Security is lax, they'll check bags and that's it. They may have started waving a metal detecting wand, but I really don't think so.

Not suggesting you need these, but I've got them and I've brought them with me to all kinds of events and never even had security give them a first glance, much less a second.

u/malren · 7 pointsr/TalesFromYourServer

find a copy of The Bartender's Black Book. http://www.amazon.com/Epic-91-006-Bartenders-Black-Book/dp/0965774643 - study it like you were taking a test in high school! If you can master the basics you'll be better than half the bartenders working.

u/Zhonka · 6 pointsr/EDC

I've been using this and have had no issues with it. Would kinda like a bigger neck of the bottle for cleaning but it's nice in the pocket.

u/blowjazzle · 6 pointsr/whiskey

I love my Stanley flask, it's not concave which would make it more comfortable to carry in jeans and easy to conceal. But, it's got a wider mouth than others I've had which helps with pouring (and drinking!). Also Stanley thormoses are bad ass! IMHO.

u/PenPenGuin · 5 pointsr/DesignPorn

Riedel makes cleaning beads for use in cleaning many of their decanters. They're little stainless steel balls that you sloosh around the glass to clean. Riedel makes some incredibly thin, delicate, fragile-looking pieces of glass too - I can only assume they tested these beads to be (relatively) safe in their products.

u/_naimitsu_ · 5 pointsr/fountainpens

So this probably isn't going to be 100% helpful for you...

I usually vacuum seal a bottle of ink in a bag and flatten out the box (if possible) to put into my checked luggage.

If you don't have access to a vacuum sealer, then bring extra freezer gallon baggies to double-bag the bottles you're going to bring back with you and put them in checked luggage.

If you're afraid that the rough handling will damage the bottles, wrap the baggies in clothing, or get one of those inflatable wine bottle cushions like this one.

u/sigh2828 · 4 pointsr/festivals

These worked all weekend at Bonnaroo. No metal parts and their super easy to just tuck in your waist line.

u/Seattle_Horn · 4 pointsr/LonghornNation
u/Arvedude · 4 pointsr/cripplingalcoholism

Flasks are great, but your problem on a trip that won't include many social opportunities for drinking is volume. A flask will not get you through a three day weekend. Pack a handle or two in the suitcase, refill flask as necessary. Invest in some disposable ones so you can just chuck them discretely when you're finished with them. These are the ones I use:

I have found bottle cleaning beads do a great job getting the stuff you can't reach at the bottom of a bottle or decanter.

Drop the beads in the bottle, add some soap and water, then swirl it around for a few minutes. Dump everything into a strainer to catch the beads, and then just rinse out the bottle.

u/Lardarius · 3 pointsr/rum

Exactly! To be fair duty free stuff doesn't count against your bag allowance (since you buy it after security). Also I recommend Wine Wings for anyone who likes to travel and wants to bring home bottles in their checked bags.

u/Juno_Malone · 3 pointsr/Homebrewing

I'll be brewing a NEIPA in a few weeks, and I play on experimenting with this stuff to purge the headspace of each bottle prior to capping. I've used it for some vegetable ferments before with positive results, so I'm excited to see how well it works for a style so prone to oxidation. I plan on leaving a couple bottles "unpurged" as a control, to see if there's a noticeable difference.

u/Jlbrack84 · 3 pointsr/Scotch

First, Bravo because that's a good way to honor your Fathers Memory.
Secondly, if it were me I would decant it into something classy like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Bormioli-Rocco-Selecta-4-Ounce-Decanter/dp/B002IT6X4I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457524738&sr=8-1&keywords=whisky+bottle

However, if keeping it in the bottle is really important then I would: 1. Strain it into a temporary container.
2. I would get a thin long piece of metal and stab the remaining cork until it broke up.
3. I would rinse the bottle with a little purified water and use a funnel to put the water back in.
Hope this helps

u/EugenioFV · 3 pointsr/woodworking

u/mentel42 · 2 pointsr/bourbon

check amazon, here's the first hit when I searched for decanter. Just try & get one with a tight fitting stopper. Or you can possibly macguyver something to get a tight seal & prevent air exposure. But for mixers, you really need something fancy & decorative? Guess I understand the impulse to class up the joint

Another good idea, buy a bottle of Bulleit, then when you're done drinking it remove the label & use it to hold other whiskey, bottle is great

u/p8ntslinger · 2 pointsr/AskMen

What is your price range? I think 5 Yeti coolers would be badass (here). But if that is too expensive, get them some decent knives, like this. Much less expensive, extremely useful, lasts forever. I have my grandfather's that he bought in the 50s. Still fantastic.

Flasks are really good, actually. Get a Stanley flask for everybody (here).

You could also do flashlights, but not everybody would be into that like I would be. Here is my recommendation anyway (here).

u/TechnicallyMagic · 2 pointsr/trees

Just some quick comment research and it seems the Kassel 13 model is bad quality.

Wine based with a best by date. Though it is a wonderful liqueur that can be used in place of vermouth in a variety of cocktails.

If you want to store it and other vermouth, you could pick up some of this gas or a similar product to prolong its shelf life.

No worries, I don't use a Crystal Decanter. When I first started looking for a decanter, I discovered all of the lead concerns. Thankfully I found a lead-free, non crystal, glass decanter. It looks great, and it was really cheap. I can vouch for its quality, and thankfully it has gotten even cheaper in the last few years (was $40 when i bought it)

I guess it depends on your budget, needs, and wants,if you're looking for an end all flask I highly recommend this [titanium flask] (http://www.amazon.com/Vargo-T-447-Titanium-Funnel-Flask/dp/B00NUR3ZE8) it has a funnel attached so it is easy to fill, and it low drama but still nice enough you won't really tire of it, then you have two Stanley flasks [this metal one] (http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Adventure-Stainless-Steel-Flask/dp/B00VRES8NO) and a [plastic one] (http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Adventure-7oz-eCycle-Flask/dp/B00EPW5AMC) both of which you can find at Walmart. Out of the two I would recommend the plastic one due to its cost, the fact you can open the whole thing, and it's just no drama but I love my titanium flask.

Funny and so incredibly useful, I can't recommend this book enough

u/rupestrisdulot · 2 pointsr/wine

I have one of these, think we got it as a wedding present. I like it because we tend to drink wines with 5-10 years of bottle age (unlike most people under 35, I actually age my wine) and I don't want them to get as much air. We have a couple others that are more funky shaped, but that's the one I use the most.

But no matter what decanter you get, these cleaning devices are super clutch. Little water, a drop or two of soap and the decanter is clean as a whistle, and you don't have to worry about jamming a dish brush or some other odd object to get the scuzz out.

Also, re: lead - don't worry about it. The amount of time the liquid would have to sit in the decanter to actually get a measurable amount of lead is far longer than it will take you to consume the wine.

u/cryospam · 1 pointr/mead

Headspace doesn't matter if you use CO2 to blanket it.

You can get it pretty cheaply on Amazon. Buying a case of One Shots is MUCH cheaper than buying wine preserver. One can of wine preserver contains about 8.2 grams of CO2 for like 9 dollars...the one shots are 8 grams of CO2 and are 40 cents each if you buy 100 of them. 2 of the one shots (or cans of wine preserver) will fill a carboy. To dispense them, get a Whipped Cream dispenser.

u/AyekerambA · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

I burn through three with a 5 gallon keg, but that's after my learning curve.

Thankfully, they're cheap: http://www.amazon.com/100-Leland-Soda-Chargers-Seltzer/dp/B00304SLAO/ref=pd_sim_k_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=0DNJD38JD58GANSWQWQB

And if this is intended for party purposes, keep people the fuck away from the co2 injector. Folks like to get trigger happy. Personally, I just pop it off and keep it in my back pocket. Mind you, that's the whole apparatus. If you take off JUST the injector and leave the gas connector there, you'll offgas the keg.

u/dudecephus · 1 pointr/DIY

For the small space you're working with, this is a pretty great renovation. If this were my bar, though, I'd take the doors off to make it look less cramped.

Also, pro-tip: For the cheaper liquors that you probably drink more often (if you're anything like me), get a few glass decanters. Pour the cheaper stuff like the Evan Williams in there and get rid of the bottle. The bar will look much classier if you keep the more expensive liquors on display in their respective bottles, but for the cheaper stuff, you can make it look fancy in glass decanters.

Chances are, when your guests ask for whiskey and you pour it from a nice decanter, they won't know it's Evan Williams and they'll assume you gave them some fancy stuff.

Look into a few like this. It's only $12, and you'll save that money back when guests reach for the decanter instead of getting grabby with your good shit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IT6X4I/ref=abs_brd_tag_dp?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I use cruise booze smugglers for oil and alcohol in the backcountry. Held up fine for several week long trips and didn't leak at all. Definitely my preferred method after having both spill out of other containers or get leaky around the opening.

Nice! I decided to hold off on the cheers program because it would've been another $1,100+ for my fiancee and I but I did the math and we can still each drink about $50 a day on the boat and still save money VS the cheers program. I've prebatched CR#2 before with no noticeable negative effects. I make them in these and keep them in the fridge until I need them:

http://www.amazon.com/Bormioli-Rocco-17-Pocket-Flask/dp/B003R0GU0E

I have no idea how you would batch a Moscow Mule, or anything with a carbonated ingredient, other than batching the non-carbonated stuff and bringing cold bottles of the fizzy stuff.

Anything that's all alcohol will do well prebatched, and anything with citrus is fine as long as you limit the exposure to air (hence the bottle in my case).

I've also had success with the Blood and Sand and the Maple Leaf.

I have this Stanley flask in black.

I've heard people say that the Stanley products made today are pretty inferior to the older stuff. While some of that may be true, this flask has suited my needs very well. No problems at all.

The thing I love the most about it is it's shape. It's a bit taller and the body is tapered in on the one side, making it slightly triangular. It's the perfect fit for the inside pocket of a jacket or blazer.

u/Lucius_Grammer · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

ok so I can't speak to it's BIFL-nes but my SO just got me this Stanley flask (like the thermos) I've only had it since Xmas but it seems very solid. Just my two cents.

Edit: I did some research on this flask (it was a gift) and it doesnt' sound too good. The walls are kinda thin and could be dented. I guess the rubber gasket(?) can get gummed up if you put anykind of schnapps in there, which could be bad because I put fireball in mine.
