Nice score! They are crying out for some TLC though...

I'd suggest you give them a deep clean, replace the ear pads (€23 on Amazon) and just listen to some tunes (the Soundblaster Z should be more than sufficient to power them). If you don't like the sound, you could always sell them on. New they go for around €120 on Amazon and secondhand examples fetch around €50 (at least they do in the Netherlands).

Hi! You might want to check these out. I have these and have recommended to others in my family. They come with 4 pieces in one order (left and right ear x 2).

The best part of these ones, compared to other 3rd party ones, is these can fit your charging case with the lid fully closed. It may be a touch tight at beginning but really have been perfect. Either way, good luck.

Doctor checking in to caution you of the dangers of playing music too loudly on your ear buds. If you really enjoy listening to music (or not suffering from tinnitus later in life), you'll appreciate taking care of your hearing now.

Any good quality ear buds will give you a similar experience without having to "crank (the) volume the fuck up". You'll have better clarity at lower volumes and they'll 'feel' louder at lower volumes.

Let us know what type of music you listen to and we can give you a better idea of suggestions for ear buds that will give you what you're looking for without needing the excessively high volumes.

Once you purchase good ear buds, invest in these. They will greatly improve most ear buds isolation and further reduce the volume needed get the same experience from your music.

I own a pair of the black version of these. For the price they sound amazing, definitely competes with any sub $50 IEM's that I've tried. I would recommend purchasing some replacement tips (I've heard good things about these Comply eartips (finally got around to ordering some and they should be here soon). The ones included are pretty flimsy. If you do use the included ones, be aware that you get the best seal when they are not all the way in; the large ones for example seal best when they are partway into your ear canal (for me at least).

Also worth noting it is best to wear these over the ear like this (random google picture) to reduce cord vibration noise. The cord is pretty tangle prone, but you could always re-wire them. All in all I would 100% recommend picking a pair up if you have not already. No experiences with massdrop, but Monoprice's support is great and I can get cheap overnight shipping to AZ. Great value for under $10

Definitely get the velours for the DT770 (they come in both black and silver).

I own COPs and love them.

(yes, this is a copy/paste... because "get the velours" should be my flair.)

Now, I expect PriceZombie to come along; he usually does.

u/daddydicklooker · 11 pointsr/headphones

I have had my HE-400i for over a year with around 2000 listening hours and HE-400 with Focus pads for about 1.5 years with a couple hundred listening hours on them and have not seen this myself.

How do you store your headphones because this is strange.

These should be a comparable pad that should work and are well regarded as quite comfortable.

u/Weeberz · 11 pointsr/buildapcsales

I see you linked the sheepskin version, I personally use these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07238XHCX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

same texture as sennheiser velour pads for those familiar. I daily mine at work with sennheisers at home and theyre honestly about equally as comfy. Sennheisers fit me a bit better personally but for what I paid I wont complain

u/gaatu · 9 pointsr/airpods

I recommend these to everyone LOL! I love them because they provide a better, more comfortable seal imo, while being able to stay in the case.

u/[deleted] · 7 pointsr/headphones

> When you're sealed is it painful to walk or move your head at all like it is for me?

No. this should never be the case. something is wrong.

> Should they be pushed all the way in? Or should the seal just be with the walls of your ear canal and there should be a bit of space at the end?

That depends on the type of tip.

All foam tips + silicone tips in this style do not get inserted "all the way", doing so will definitely produce bad sound and probably be uncomfortable. These types of tips are meant to seal in/around the part of the ear just outside the external auditor canal. The red area is where the tip should be. no further. Getting a seal with this type of tip can be challenging, because most parts of the external ear vary a lot from person to person. This is why foam tips come with a ton of different sizes.

On the other hand, flanged silicone tips are meant to go "all the way in" to a degree. These types of tips should fill the area indicated here. This type of tip is offered in far fewer sizes because there is a lot more consistency in the size of peoples external auditory canal.

If you can't get a good seal with foam style tips, give the triple flanges a try. They will seal well, you just have to get used to the feeling. These triple flanges from Shure are great; they fit Shure, Westone, and some other IEMs.

u/funbob · 7 pointsr/oneplus

I have difficult ear canals too and I can guarantee you with the right tip, an IEM is going to stay in and sound much better than any earbud.

Get the Pistons, they're a good budget IEM, then get yourself a sampler pack of Comply earphone tips and find the size that fits.

If you're not opposed to a headphone and a separate mic, then I have some recommendations. There's also some info you should know about what makes headphones/headsets good for gaming, so strap in.

I strongly recommend Philips SHP9500, Superlux HD668B and Superlux HD681 EVO with an Antlion ModMic 4, a Massdrop Minimic or a V-MODA BoomPro mic in the $100 range. These are open-back headphones. For closed-back, I recommend AKG K52.

K52 has a big soundstage, good imaging, clarity, detail retrieval and tonality, and decent separation. It has a balanced/neutral sound signature, meaning it doesn't under- or over-emphasize the bass or treble. The bass can sound slightly distorted in explosions and other big and loud sounds. It's over-ear, very lightweight and has a durable construction and replaceable earpads.

SHP9500 has a big soundstage, good imaging, separation and detail retrieval, and very good clarity and tonality. It has a balanced/neutral sound signature. It's over-ear, lightweight and has a durable construction and a detachable cable. The earpads are removable, but you have to mod them or buy 3D printed rings that the new earpads attach to. Modding is very easy and quick to do and doesn't require new/extra parts aside from the replacement earpads, but the stock pads will be destroyed. I've made a tutorial. 3D printed parts can be bought from Thingverse.com and ModHouseAudio.com. The clamping force is very light, so I don't recommend the headphone for children or if you frequently move your head down and don't have a big head. Replacing the earpads will make the clamping force tighter.

HD668B has a very big soundstage, very good imaging, separation and detail retrieval, good clarity and decent tonality. It has a bright sound signature, meaning the treble is emphasized, and a small boost in the bass. It's over-ear, very lightweight and has a sturdy construction and a detachable cable. I recommend replacing the earpads with velour earpads from HiFiMAN because they have much better quality and are a little deeper.

HD681 EVO has a very big soundstage, good detail retrieval, very good clarity and tonality, but has poor imaging and separation. It has a warm sound signature with a deep sub-bass.
It's over-ear, lightweight and has a durable build and a detachable cable. I recommend taking out the loose felt inside the cups and replacing the earpads because they are very shallow and the driver sticks out quite a bit. I recommend velour earpads from HiFiMAN and Cosmos. If you have big ears or want memory foam, very soft earpads or boosted bass, then I recommend round velour earpads from Brainwavz. The earpads can cost up to $25, but the sound quality is worth at least $100.

I also compare to AKG Q701, Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x, Beyerdynamic DT990 (600 ohms), HyperX Cloud, Philips Fidelio X2 and Sennheiser HD700. I got all of these headphones for gaming. I can't emphasize enough that perceived performance in headphones/headsets is relative.

People will probably recommend HyperX Cloud / Cloud II / CloudX, but I strongly advise against them because they have a very bad price-performance ratio compared to SHP9500, HD668B and HD681 EVO and a bad one compared to K52. The Clouds have a small soundstage, bad imaging, and they sound very muddy with grainy bass.

Alternative headphones:

  • Audio-Technica ATH-AD500x (open-back)
  • Status Audio OB-1 (open-back)
  • Status Audio CB-1 (closed-back)
  • Superlux HD681 (B, F) (semi-open-back)
  • Superlux HD669 (closed-back)
  • Superlux HD662 (B, F) (closed-back)
  • Superlux HD662 EVO (closed-back)

Closed-back headphones have cups with solid shells that largely isolate sound from passing in and out.

Open-back / semi-open-back headphones have cups with perforations/grills that allow outside sound to freely pass in and sound from the drivers to freely pass out. How loud you hear outside sound and how loud people around you hear the sound emanating from the headphones depend on your volume, of course. The sonic benefit to open-back is generally a big soundstage.

Soundstage is perceived space and environment of sound. It can be compared to virtual surround sound; both attempt to produce the same spacious, three-dimensional effect. VSS can sound more ambient and immersive, which depends on the processor (CMSS-3D, Dolby, SBX, etc.), but it degrades the sound quality and diminishes detailing due to compression from digital processing. You might also experience less accurate imaging and separation if the headphone already has good imaging and separation. Note that a deep soundstage is equally important as a wide soundstage.

Imaging determines how accurately sounds/objects are positioned across the soundstage. And I mean where they are positioned and not merely what direction they come from. This distinction is important because only being able to tell what direction objects come from is to me not good enough when playing against people or on high difficulties.
Imaging is inherent to the audio content, so if the game is recorded or mixed poorly, a headphone with good imaging won’t improve the positional audio, so don't judge the headphone before using it in several games you're very familiar with. I test mine mostly in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, a game that has great recording and mixing and that I've played for over six years.

Separation is separating individual sounds from a range of sounds. Good separation makes it easier to filter out or discern overlapping sounds from other sounds and track them.

Antlion ModMic 4 and Massdrop Minimic use a clasp system to attach to headphones and are easy to attach and remove. They are compatible with all headphones and have a mute switch.

The Minimic isn't available on Massdrop for the time being, but I mention it in case you want to save money and wait until it becomes available. I recommend requesting it on Massrop.com in the meanwhile.

V-MODA BoomPro connects to the headphone's jack, replacing the headphone cable. It's compatible with Philips SHP9500 and Status Audio CB-1 of my recommendations. It has a mute switch and a volume control.

To connect the headphone and mic to DS4, you need a TRRS / 4-pole Y-splitter. The BoomPro doesn't require a Y-splitter.

    Alternative, clip-on mics:

  • Neewer 3.5mm Clip on Mini Lapel Microphone
  • Sony ECMCS3
  • Zalman ZM-Mic1

You can also use a sound card, e.g. Astro MixAmp Pro TR, or a dedicated DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and a headphone amplifier, e.g. SMSL SD793-II, to connect to PS4 instead of DS4 and to improve the audio. Sound cards are mainly for offering virtual surround sound, equalization, game audio and chat audio balancing, and other features, so sound cards generally provide inferior audio quality to dedicated DACs and amps. The BoomPro works only with DS4 and sound cards. If you choose one of the other mics, then you're not limited to a sound card because the mic cable is separate from the headphone cable, so the headphone connects to the DAC or amp as usual and the mic connects to the DS4, through a TRRS Y-splitter. Using unlicensed USB sound cards and DACs will very likely result in reversed left and right channels, so use an optical connection or licensed products.

edit: looked at rift headphones, they seem to actually be using a nicer cushion that I haven't seen before, but these should still fit.

u/Fadedcamo · 5 pointsr/BuyItForLife

A. Run them for a few hours to warm the drivers up. They'll change over time at first.

B. Main issue you're probably having is an improper seal. If you don't have these literally in the perfect sealed place you're going to miss half the frequencies and feel no bass. I personally hate the foam eartips but they give a great seal if you wiggle them down and let them expand in your ear. I personally hate the feeling and theyre impossible to get in and out easily. Silicone is the alternative but The silicon ones that come with the unit aren't great, they never fit my ear with a good seal. I got [These](shure eatfl1-6 triple flange sleeves for se model earphones, kse1500, e3c, e4c, e5c, e500pth, i3c and i4c models https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00275F2GS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xAzxDbWX3DR39) as a replacement and they fit perfectly no discomfort once you snip the top smallest piece off because otherwise they are wayyy too deep in my ear. But yes every ear is different so try different tips and experiment with the foams first to see the best possible seal and how it'll sound like that.

KZ ZST

Best sound quality for the lowest price that I've experienced:

I wear my ZST with Comply tips for 6-8 hours a day. Zero complaints.

I have these. Bought them few weeks ago. I enjoy mine very much!

Only thing i didn't like is the foamy ear pads that came with it. my ears touched inside. So i bought these:

And I love them. look great and feel great and way better cushion.

also battery is hard to find...thru the desktop app. ehhh lame

battery last long tho!

Edit: also be sure to google sound correction for these headphones. Download a couple programs and adjust the EQ basically for them. Really opens them up and sounds fuller then stock.

Isolation (smaller) and Professional (bigger)

The stock blockey grey foam ones are much thicker, but I don't have them to compare directly because I tossed them, they fit terrible for me.

u/Infinidecimal · 3 pointsr/headphones

You can try swapping out the earpads for velour ones. They won't give as much isolation and you'll some bass if you do that probably. Something like [these] (http://www.amazon.com/Auray-Deluxe-Velour-Earpads-Pair/dp/B005GC7YJ2/ref=pd_sim_e_3) should fit.

Wait. actually, probably not. Those are for the v6, and yours look smaller. The idea still holds though, see if you can find alternative pads.

u/COCAINE___waffles · 3 pointsr/headphones

Here you go

The m50 pads are alot more plush than the stock monoprice pads. Softer and flatter while also being bigger so that they don't rest directly on your ears like stock but almost completely circumaural, the majority of your ear fits inside, way more comfortable

u/tibberzzzz · 3 pointsr/buildapc
u/Wulf6489 · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

That's about normal price for them.

They are great headphones and well worth $50, especially if you add a pair of hm5 pads.

One of two electrostatic setups:
____
(1) Reasonable electrostatic setup.

Stax SRS-3100: Includes an L300 and an SRM 252S. Can be found on eBay such as here or here. Price is ~$650 for the combo.

Aftermarket earpads: Amazon link $49.50

DAC: Schitt Bifrost $400.

Total Price: $1100. Use the extra money on something fun.

___
(2) Working man's electrostatic setup. After 5 minutes of searching I am unable to find the SRM-252S amp for sale on its own, and every other electrostatic energizer I'm aware of will put the setup way over budget.

Buy the same L300+SRM 252S combo from before. Can be found on eBay such as here or here. Price is ~$650 for the combo.

Sell the L300 on eBay or /r/AVexchange. A coursery search suggests that your unopened headphones could probably be listed for $350 for a reasonably quick sale, but price as you will.

After the sale, buy an L-300 Limited (identical to an L700) on eBay or wait for one to come up on /r/AVexchange. If there's no luck waiting for either of these, just buy a new L500.

Still need the aftermarket earpads: Amazon link $49.50

Buy whatever DAC fits into the remaining money. If the combo was bought for $650, the L300 was sold for $350, and the L300 Limiteds were bought for $849 per the eBay link, then that puts us $1200 in the hole. This leaves enough room for a $200 DAC, where I'd probably go with a Modi or search for something better in the used market for the same price.

This buy-and-sell setup is a bit convoluted and a lot of people will tell you that you're not doing the headphones "justice" by using a fairly basic energizer/dac setup, but I'd tell you that better headphones on a lesser setup generally sounds better than worse headphones on a better setup.

Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 Ohm

I had once wanted wireless headphones too.. but quickly realized how terrible they are in comparison to the opposite.. especially for something I love doing, for long hours, all the time.. gaming... I wore Sennheiser headphones with a long 10 ft cable for 7 years.. I got tired of it getting caught and tangled and whatever.. Bought and returned 6 or 7 different wireless headsets/phones. Settled on a coiled cable headphone. The Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro 250 Ohm. This is the only thing in your price range I would ever substitute for over my previous modded Sennheiser headphones. You will need an amp to drive these. If you have a headphone amp, these are great. Most modern motherboards are amped.

The reason I went with a coiled cable is because it doesn't tangle, it doesn't pull.. it just chills.. I ran an extension behind my desk and up the back side.. and the coil just lays on my desk top.. it's tense enough to not let it fall down my side, or off the desk.. but it doesn't tug at all.. I don't think I will ever buy anything else. If/when these die, I will buy another pair.

An added note.. if you end up researching these, and liking them, I changed my stock earpads out for these Brainwavz ear pads. They changed the sound profile a bit, added a bit more bass, and are more comfortable in my opinion.

u/facedodge · 3 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I've owned Tin T2s and Andromedas. I like a lot of the music you do it seems as well. My recommendation is the Blon BL-03 (39$) . It has great base and really good tonality. I enjoy it more than much higher priced IEMs. As far as noise-canceling and sports, I would recommend a good set of memory foam tips. I prefer Comply (20$ for set of 3), others like Dekoni.

There are a few brands that make exactly what you're describing, including Shure and Westone. A lot of times the in-ear piece they come with is rubber rather than foam, but you can buy foam replacements. Try searching "in-ear monitors." I find they work really well on planes, but I also use active noise cancellation like the Bose QC20.

I've been using these Shures for about 8 years now.

i use the 'triple flange' earbits though, i find they stay in my ears considerably better & block out wind/noise much more.

i usually run 5 miles a day during the summer & hit the treadmill/elliptical for at least an hour a day in the winter & sweat like an idiot.

u/aenima462 · 2 pointsr/audiophile

No experience with those. I buy the ones from Shure. From the picture, it looks like the tube part is too big for the nozzle. Better safe than sorry. I usually replace them every couple months when they start to stain. I also wash them every week or so with soap and water.

I tried the nonoise plugs and they were pretty shitty. I have Shure SE215 with Comply tips and they are awesome. The SE215s fit pretty flush with my ear so its easy to put the helmet on, and the Comply tips work great.

However, the comply tips work almost too well on the first few rides - I could barely hear anything at all. After a bit they are perfect, and last me around 4 months of daily heavy use.

(ignore the kids tag, i got them because they were the cheaper option) with these on and music playing at a reasonable level, the whole world just goes silent. it actually can be a bit worrisome because i just don't hear anything else at all, like a car coming or something trying to get my attention. they've also got a toned down and very clear bass which some people may not prefer but i'm fine with it.

my headphones are actually the HD 201 version of this, but this is the current version i guess: link

all other headphones give me clamping pain within minutes, but these i can have on for an hour or two before it gets bad. they've also got some alright noise isolation being over-ear headphones and the sound has very midrange levels. i don't remember well but i think it took me a few weeks before i really got used to how they feel on my head.

u/XediDC · 2 pointsr/flying

A few weeks ago I got a test pair of A20's for my wife to try, and I flew with them for one leg. They were nice. Quieter than many Halo's and the mic was easier to manage. I'd guess the Halo's are 60-80% of the reduction, as others have said.

But the Halo's are just so light and airy, it doesn't compare. I had no immediate desire to buy myself head clamps. (I also don't like the weird "compressing" or "being in a bubble" feeling I get from ANR. Although I get used to it after a few minutes.)

I also use Comply tips on mine, which I think work better (and are more comfy, at least): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VNB0UC/ (No guarantees on noise reduction safety though.)

My wife loved the A20's though, and said they were far better and less clampy than the DC ANR's she'd tried before. They are now on the Christmas list for her...

Try out both if you can.

Etymotic seems to be the most cited on motorcycle forums, but there are other options out there. I tend to prefer Shure and Westone.

This is just my personal experience, but I find that triple-flange silicone ear pieces (what comes on the Etymotics) don't do as good of a job at isolating road and wind noise as comply foam tips do. I'd recommend buying a multi-pack of tips to find what best fits your ear canal.- Comply Foam Tips

Also, regardless of what type tip you use, be sure to make sure they're properly seated in your ear canal by using this technique Pull on yo ear

The right setup can prevent hearing loss from road noise while enabling to play music at a reasonable level.

u/TridentWielder · 2 pointsr/audioengineering

Seconding the velour. They can get a bit warm, but it's never been a problem for me. I think they're more comfortable, and I like not having to worry about black flaking.

I got these.

u/cant_maintain · 2 pointsr/headphones

If you go with the MDR-V6, I recommend that you order these replacement auray deluxe velour earpads to go with them: http://amzn.com/B005GC7YJ2. They're a steal at $12.95, and they make a huge difference in comfort. I was able to wear them comfortably for much longer, and maybe it was a placebo effect, but I felt like there was less sound pressure, like it broke the seal and opened them up a bit. They're incredible headphones. I don't think it would be possible to find anything else that delivers that sound quality in that price range. I just switched from them to the AKG Q701 last week, but it was more for comfort than sound. I keep comparing them and still think the MDR-V6 sound great.

u/VlRU5 · 2 pointsr/headphones

These Are the offical replacements by Audio Technica, but you can find cheaper aftermarket pads that are similar to these (rather than velour pads) if you're tight on budget.

u/Jlwojcik · 2 pointsr/headphones

I have the 700mk2, but I have not listened to the m50s. While I can't compare the two, I can say that the mids and highs are great for the $175. When I first got them I was underwhelmed by the bass, mostly because the only other decent headphones I listened to at the time were beats. The bass doesn't overpower the music at all, but it definitely lets you know it's there.

I got these pads. They are much better than the stock pads. Iv'e also seen people use Beyerdynamic pads, but I have not tried it.

The only thing I dislike about the 700mk2 is that you can only use the stock cables due to the screw in feature. You can open them up and remove the piece of metal with the threads, but I believe it is possibly the ground. I don't recommend doing this at all because the last pair I had, I removed it then a few days later the left speaker blew out.

You won't be disappointed by either headphones, but the 700mk2 seems to fit your needs the best

Wow, thank you, like seriously. The keyboard is the k95 rgb and yeah i love the mouse as well. Its really awesome and honestly suprising that someone finds my setup cool. Thanks. And that's actually quite reassuring as well. I was worried that I might not like these long term at first, but now I'm realizing that that's unlikely. I purchased the brainwavz easily the best in my opinion.

edit: unless you really like felty velvet material then they have some like that. These ones just have a great warranty, build quality, and thickness that reduces discomfort. I can wear mine for well over 2 hours now without pain. I also recommend stretching out your headband.

Also, do you really need to upgrade? The Clouds are already decent audiophile headphones. They just rebranded the Takstar Pro 80 and slapped a mic on. I'm not sure a sidegrade to Superlux HD 681 would really improve things very much. And it really is a pain in the ass to get these pads on the 681. Apologies; I've updated the original comment to include the Thingiverse link (STL + SKP).

The pads I have right now are 100mm OD Brainwavz (55mm ID). They are just big enough to accommodate my ears comfortably; but I'd probably have gone larger in hindsight. The plates are designed for those, but easily amended for larger diameters.

I originally didn't want too much of an overhang; but looking at them fitted to the cups, they only overhang by about 4mm. They line up perfectly with the outer diameter of the cup brackets, so look completely 'stock' (and awesome on these beautiful headphones).

The cup angle cannot go beyond 90 degrees, so the pads are never knocked/levered off by their movement.

The point at which the brackets join the hinges is the only obstruction I can see that would prevent using larger pads. I reckon you could go to 110-115mm pads without interfering with that.

100mm Pads, 1

100mm Pads, 2

Without access to a 3D printer, you could probably make replacement plates with thin plywood, MDF, ABS sheet or even thick card stock. Layering up multiple thinner sheets would make it easier to do the magnet cut-outs. you could even sandwich/seal the magnets into the layers. The only problematic part would be the alignment pins.

I'm afraid I can't comment on audible differences as I've been spoiled by HD800S and the like and haven't used them for some time; but I don't recall there being a huge difference between stock and Brainwavz pads.

I’m going to start off by saying I don’t have AirPods. They’re ordered, but not here yet.
However, since you have no responses I wanted to at least add my two cents.
From what I’ve seen, there are a few designs that can help with the overall sound. Not really boosting the bass, but isolating the sound more if that makes sense.
For example, these would help: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071RT47Y8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.ukVCbB9J4XXM
So would these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019BU38N0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_YwkVCb7284P50

However they don’t fit in the case. So you have to take them off every time you put them back, and have some way to not lose the tips until you get the AirPods back out.

I’ve been looking at some that fit in the case and help stay in your ear better (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G26PY8N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WxkVCb6VQKN2C) but I don’t think they’ll help with sound that much.

Don’t forget you can probably mess with your EQ to help and you may get more from that than the accessories.

Now mind you these are not Active Sound Canceling earbuds. These are Passive Noise Reduction earbuds. Think: noise reduction ear plugs with earbud stalks through the middle. Mine are Shure SE115-K that I got 6 years ago for $70 from Amazon. Shure doesn't make it anymore. They replaced it with the Shure SE112-GR. Which doesn't appear to come with the Shure Foam Sleeves. And it's the foam sleeves that get you the most noise reduction. The Flex Ear Sleeves do feel better but don't reduce noise near as much as the Foam. For example, with Foam Sleeves inserted correctly. I only need to play my rain sound track at 25% volume to drown out the whole gym and annoying girl. And the rain sound track I have is one of those 'quiet' recordings where you have to really turn it up to hear it. Think "Classical Music" volume.

To insert the Foam one correctly you need to squish the foam down to a thin pencil like cylinder. Don't roll it into a cylinder. Squish it into one around the ear-bud-stalk. Then when inserting into the ear canal you need to pull your ear away from your head by gripping the ear just above the earlobe. Then gently, ease the smushed ear foam further into your ear canal. As the foam starts to expand the whole world will go whisper quiet. You'll be able to hear your own heart and breathing.

u/noiserr · 1 pointr/headphones

AKG K240s relatively cheap for the over the ear catagory. Great mid/highs which is awesome for voice to compensate for the weaker bass. Awesome for podcasting. The only thing about them is the pleather ear cups can get uncomfortable/hot after extended use so I suggest getting these velour pads and replacing the leather ones with them. It can be a little bit of a tight fit, but once they're on, use a hair drier on hot to shrink it securely around the lip.

I've heard those are uncomfortable though.

u/VPI_1991 · 1 pointr/needadvice

Just a heads up, my suggestion is going to be double the upper end of your budget. I'll give you my reasoning for it though, but TL;DR: I own them and love them.

These are made by Shure. I absolutely love them. I have had them for a few years now (3 going on 4). The sound quality is a huge step up from the earbuds that come with an iPod, and when paired with triple flange sleeves they block out an incredible amount of sound. They are also great for running and working out because they literally will not fall out of your ear.

Why would I would suggest paying 100 dollars for these? They last. If they break, Shure is a great company with really great customer service. I've returned older models to them on a few occasions, and each time they have sent me brand new earphones, not refurbished, but brand new, in retail packaging earphones. If they are out of warranty and Shure won't replace them, the cable is detachable and can be swapped out for pretty cheap (20 dollars or so). So lets say you buy a new pair of earphones every six months, which isn't too unreasonable. That's 40 dollars a year- in two and a half, you're breaking even with a pair of Shures. Getting 2.5 years out of them isn't unreasonable either. Add in how much better the sound quality is and I really think it's a good deal. Like I've said, I've had mine for going on four now and haven't had any problems with them yet.

u/davomoto · 1 pointr/drums

I use the triple flanged ones. Like these: http://www.amazon.ca/EATFL1-6-Sleeves-earphones-SE102MPA-Versions/dp/B00275F2GS

EDIT: I find that they're good for isolation, and I don't need the volume turned way up. However, if you have a shallow ear canal, you may find them to be uncomfortable.

I actually have a pair of IEM, but don't wear/use it much because of cable noise when it rubs against my shirt and after some time, the buds would start slipping out of my ears. There are times when the wire gets in the way and the buds would get yanked out. I been told to get better ear tips but I have no idea what size I should get.

u/arielmanticore · 1 pointr/3DS

Audio-Technica make some badass headphones. I have the ATH-700s and they are incredible, they are a little above OPs budget but I would think that the build quality should still be good on their lower budget cans. If you are looking for iem I would recommend SoundMagic E30 with these tips. They are what I use while at work, the noise isolations is very good.

u/Archayor · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

Yep, same for me. My ear canals started burning from the original ones after like 10-15 minutes.

This is the specific set I bought, since I didn't know what size would fit me best: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B002P7DBCK/. For me the medium size works out perfectly. Good seal, good isolation, very positive result on the sound signature (More bass and softens the treble spike). And they're a lot more comfortable than the original tips too. u/bexamous · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

Err IEMs are the best for isolation, tips can make a huge difference though.

http://www.headphone.com/headphones/sennheiser-hd-280-pro.php
Isolation: -12dB ~ -15dB
http://www.headphone.com/headphones/shure-se215.php
Isolation: -15dB ~ 30dB

But then to do even better buy these tips, Comply P-Series foam tips:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VNB0UC/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Really those tips and any set of IEMs that they work on is about as much isolation an you can get. Maybe not as comfortable for some, but I'm kinda used to it... I can wear them for 8 hours when I gotta work around racks of servers.

Oh and one kinda nice thing about IEMs, you can still put other ear protection on, lol. Like I got some Beyerdynamics DT770 Pro closed headphones. If I'm going flying somewhere I usually take both them and my IEMs and just wear the DT770Pro over my IEMs, not plugged in or anything just there for isolation. Or at work we've got ear muffs things all over for some OSHA requirement and sometimes I put them on over my IEMs for the hell of it.

Like I use my phone to play music. When using IEMs I'll be listening to music and go to turn volume down adn then music is off, because I had been listening at volume set to 1/30 and turning it down goes to 0/30 and off and I'm like crap, why is there not a 0.5/30 setting. I mean usually like 3-5 is good listening volume, but for 8 hours straight at work its probably not good for ears, so I often have it at 1.

I have a pair of Beats Studios sitting right next to me, gathering dust for the past year. They have the worst price to performance I've ever seen, and they have shitty build quality. Not even remotely built to last compared to good headphones (note: good, not expensive. Different things). If I can recommend a good option, get these, and switch the earpads with these

u/3-day-respawn · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I have these, and also got these earpads for them. It's a very tight fit, but they've been on for more than a year now, and I have nothing but positive things to say about these two. The stock earpads are no where near as nice, and kind of rough/itchy, but these ones make it feel premium. I don't care much for the mic, it sounds muffled and a bit low, but I use a dedicated mic. Changing to another mic was night and day and would never go back. The range on the wireless is amazing.

u/shinjinian · 1 pointr/headphones

I couldn’t find any replacements either. Brainwavz fit though, I used these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OLKV5Q8/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks. So something like these will work?

u/JKPisMe · 1 pointr/Gaming_Headsets

Looks like these are ones that fit and I'm partial to the leather, I just like the texture. I do hear great things about the other textures though. Didn't really think about the sound difference though, hopefully it's not too notable.

Budget - $30-100

Source - iPod/Computer/iPhone

Will you be using these Headphones in Public? I'm using them to listen to music at work and during travel.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Not sure - I think I prefer over the ear. I just bought the Monoprice 8323 and am curious if it's worth another $25 for replacement ear pads, which I should buy, etc. I'm looking at the following:

https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Replacement-Memory-Foam-Earpads/dp/B00X5ISRGI/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1478088898&sr=8-3&keywords=brainwavz+earpads

OR if I should look at spending a bit more on the headphone itself (up to $100) and getting a nicer headphone like the M50x or the V-6. I'm willing to poke around eBay and see if I can get a deal.

Preferred tonal balance - I listen to Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, etc. Have no idea what headphone settings are best for that but would love to learn.

Preferred Music - Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, classical, rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWcyIpul8OE

What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Need new headphone pads! I would like to listen to the Monoprice 8323's for longer than 30 minutes without being in pain or hot. I have a small'ish head but big ears for a head my size.

u/stackofthumbs · 1 pointr/audioengineering

The only thing that bugs me about the M40x is that they're not the most comfortable. So I purchased THESE to add some extra comfort. But you loose bass with these replacement pads so I ended up going back to the original pads. Kind of makes me wish I bought the M50x's so the extra bass would balance out the loss of bass with those pads.

u/NapkinBox · 1 pointr/headphones

I got these which I believe are the most common ones. They're thick, plush, and make a whole world of difference. Just don't get the purple ones; for some reason, they're of lower quality and rip easily.

This is a bit out of left field, but if you have a bluetooth transceiver with Aptx, check out the Air-Fi Matrix2. They're the best-sounding wireless headphone that I've heard. If you're worried about heat, you can get velour pads.

They're bulky but light.

u/Gamesrock22 · 1 pointr/headphones

You could try out the HM5 Angled pads, they worked wonders on my DT770 before I sold them. https://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Angled-Memory-Foam-Earpad/dp/B00ZGFVEUE

u/zerokul · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

I have a couple of similar, but similar design ones. Those pads are very inadequate and it will hurt your ears and will most likely cause excess sweat to build up. Do yourself a favor and replace these fake pleather ones with velour Brainwavs like these: https://www.amazon.ca/Brainwavz-Angled-Memory-Foam-Earpad/dp/B00ZGFVEUE

Just make sure to get the correct matching size ones.

I changed my SteelSeries Siberia pads with Brainwavs and I think as a result my FPS went up by 25% no jk.

Your ears will thank you ;)

I'm assuming you're talking about 8323, as I couldn't find anything for 8382.

In the past, Monoprice sold their own upgrade to the pads for $5-10 but I don't see it any more.

Any of the M50x pads work for 8323. Here is a velour one that's not bad, although now we're talking up to $35. You can get cheap potentially crappy ones on eBay for less, but I haven't tried any I could vouch for.

Brainwavz sells some pads, HM5 pads, that I think normally fucking wreck headphones (including the M50x) but actually sound pretty good on the 8323. Get the angled ones. Amazon has the pleather ones for $30 and the sheepskin ones in for $50 right now.

u/oppressivekitten · 1 pointr/headphones

Purchased the Sony WH-1000XM2 and now I'm looking for some bigger replacement earpads for using at home (the stock ones are basically semi-on-ear).
Does someone have experience with the Brainwavz sheepskin or other earpads in combination with Sony / other ANC headphones?
I am concerned about losses in sound quality / noise cancelling and that they won't fit in the case anymore.

Also, would you recommend the angled or even version? The angled ones seem to be geared towards sending the sound "directly" into the ears which sounds nice for music but questionable for everything else. The Sony stock earpads are pretty much even.

So funny enough, I was just about to post about the Brainwavz pads - Im looking at getting the angled pads for my HE-400S - I already have the Focus A pads from Hifiman, but the circular earholes are annoying the fuck outta me. I happened to come across these sheepskin pads - are these sonically the same as the HM5 angled pleather pad?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J53WTUQ?psc=1

u/covertash · 1 pointr/headphones

Sadly, the ones I liked above are the "pleather" material. I have a few of these myself. The sheepskin ones are even more expensive lol:

u/QuipA · 1 pointr/headphones

If you plan to upgrade the pads go for the ATH M40X and upgrade with pleather Brainwavz HM5 replacement pads.

If you want go full bourgeois: sheepskin

u/someonesaveus · 1 pointr/headphones

Those will likely be just fine - though the Velour will not seal like a faux leather or sheepskin would which will mean a lose in some isolation - but that's personal preference at the end of the day anyhow.

Note that I have had success as an American ordering with my US Amazon account through both the German and UK Amazon sites. You may see if that's an option for you - here's the link.

u/Kaldius · 1 pointr/headphones

I was considering the Brainwavz Sheepskin Angled Pads found here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01J53WTUQ
I chose them because people have confirmed they would fit my Denons for sure, they are oval shape. I believe the ZMF Eikon pads are round so they wouldnt be compatible with mine.

u/Fobjects · 1 pointr/headphones

afaik, only elear pads are strictly 'compatible'. Mine are held on by double-sided tape.

which I believe are these.

There are more colors on the Brainwavz website and they are also on sale. The velour angled hybrids look like they only come in black. I'm not sure I really like the angled versions yet.

which I think are these.

u/Sc0oBeR · 1 pointr/headphones

Brainwavz makes this round earpad that is velour.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07238XHCX?psc=1

I would suggest getting those to keep the sound stage similar to stock, yet add more comfort with a little thicker padding. I have the ad700x and plan to order a pair of the round ones tonight. It looks like they would fit pretty well.

u/LavaScribe · 1 pointr/buildapc

I wear glasses too. I use the Superlux hd668b headphones with replacement earpads. I don't remember what I got exactly, but something like this. I can wear these for multiple hours. The 668b are made of plastic and are fairly cheap quality but are really lightweight as a result. They get sweaty for me during long sessions in the summer, but are really comfortable otherwise. I bought my 668b and replacement pads on sale, so a bargain for me, maybe not so much at $67 usd. Decent/good sound quality, semi-open back is a plus as well.

I also use a pair of Sennheiser Urbanite XL for on-the-go but they're not quite as comfortable. But I like closed-back and a more V-shaped sound when I'm out and about.

u/Terelius · 1 pointr/headphones

How do I know if something that doesn't state models will fit? Will these fit for example? How do they look? They seem to be a bit larger in terms of depth thickness

Leather pads will also make it a more closed sound, defeating the point of these open headphones right? Just wondering

u/fritobugger · 1 pointr/HeadphoneAdvice

I don't know about the XL pads but these look like they would fit. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072PPPWBF/

They match the HE-500 pads that I used to replace the pads on my AKG.

Looking for advice on ear pads for my new DT770 Pro 32 ohm. The 32 ohm models come with some uncomfortable pads so I purchased the Beyer gray velour pads separately. Unfortunately, they still don't feel as good as the stock memory foam pads on my 2 year old HyperX Cloud gaming headset.

The Brainwavz on Amazon don't seem to fit the DT770 too well.
The Dekonis seem to have a quality issue on the inside rim.
Massdrop has a deal right now but I can't really tell if they would have the same issues as the set listed on Amazon.

I plan to be wearing these for long periods at work (we're moving to a new office and those of us who had offices will now be in cubes...ugh) so they need to be comfortable. Suggestions?

These Earbuds with These Foam Covers are amazing. Great sound quality and the foam covers are superb at noise cancelling so you can shut the world out.

u/azrealloki · 1 pointr/headphones

I had a similar experience with my AD900X's until I swapped the stock pad for Brainwavz XL velours (here). Well worth the $27 since they fixed all my comfort issues, and I can wear them for hours now while gaming without any pain or fatigue. Plus, the pads don't negatively impact the sound signature.

u/DontTakeMyNoise · 1 pointr/buildapc

If I were you, I might do it a little differently.

Steelseries makes good keyboards and they're very customizable. r/mechanicalkeyboards might throw a hissy fit at me for saying that, but they're good all around boards. Every key can be customized with macros and stuff if he so chooses, right in the Steelseries software. No need to mess around with AHK.

Mice are a very personal thing. Does he know you're getting him PC peripherals for Christmas? If so, knowing the size of his hand, and if possible, how he grips a mouse would be super helpful. I spend a shameful amount of time on r/mousereview and would love to help you out! The Xtrfy M4 is very popular at the moment if he has medium or small hands. Right here you can see how to measure hand size properly.

If you can't get a precise measurement or grip style that's fine - could you maybe compare his hand to yours (a simple "Hey, which one of us has bigger hands?" should do), measure yours, and estimate roughly how different they are.

If he's got the space for a setup, he'd be much better off with a dedicated set of headphones and a dedicated microphone than with a headset, and it'd be cheaper too! I personally recommend the Superlux 668B headphones with a set of replacement earpads (these ones are amazing, but these ones are still very good while being much cheaper). Then grab yourself a Fifine microphone and something cheap to hold it and you've saved yourself a lot of money while getting him a much better product!

Oh, those headphones will let in a fair amount of background noise, and they'll leak a bit of the sound playing through them. If your house/apartment is often loud or you share a space and don't want to hear his games, these Takstars are shockingly good for the price. If you wanna save a few bucks and not go for a separate microphone, this CM headset is based off them but has an attached mic!

Good luck and I hope he enjoys his gift! Feel free to ask any questions you've got, PM if you want :)

u/centauri_ · 1 pointr/headphones

My a900x pads were doing the same exact thing and I swapped them out with some brainwavs velour pads as well. Have had them on for a year now and have had no problems with them at all, sound is still great! Btw I would recommend these over the ones you posted: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HDVCN2/ as they offer a better fit.

Clamp (Free)

I have the DT 990s, (DT series headphones all use the same earpads). I assume the clamp of the DT 770s is pretty strong, b/c they're closed backs. Mine were really uncomfortable until I "stretched" them out a little. Basically what you do is you find something(s) that matches the size of your head + a little extra wiggle room to help increase the default "clamping distance" (term I just made up).

You can be really clinical about this, and measure your head with measuring tape, find the diameter, and use something like textbooks stacked vertically to gradually increase the size. (start out with a few and incrementally move up, trying them on in between stretches to see when the clamp is loosened enough) I'm not sure if you can over stretch them; I just picked an arbitrary large object, and rested my headphones on them for I think about ~2 nights, wearing them during the day in between stretches. The clamping pressure felt a lot better after the first night, but it wasn't perfect until after the 2nd night.

Since you love the isolation, I'd be careful in case there is such a thing as over stretching. Once again I'm not sure. This is just some random pseudo-science I'm coming up with on the spot. See what works for your head size, my ears kinda stick straight out of my head so what works for me might not work completely for you.

Earpads ($25-$35)

My earpads felt a little shallow for my ears, (I have the black ones) apparently the silver OEM earpads have a different feel (more soft and comfortable). I took it with a grain of salt since I just heard it on another thread, and never got to try it myself. (About $34 on amazon)

Personally what I used were the Brainwavz XL velour pads (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078HDVCN2/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). They are much deeper, and thus didn't hurt my ears as much. (though at this point I had already done the aforementioned stretching) Getting these earpads was just kind of icing on the cake. The leather material that's used to wrap around the headphones is much more than you need. I'd fold it over itself; I personally tried to cut some of it off, and there are certain parts of the material that don't hold as securely anymore. I'd advise just folding it over itself, shouldn't be a problem. Now I feel no pressure or aching pain on my ears after long sessions.

Once again, just my experience. Different things work for different people, and this is what worked for me. Best of luck finding what works.

Try getting those silicone covers. If you get the ones without the ear hooks, then it won’t affect opening and closing the case and they actually really help with the fit. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G26PY8N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JiqlDbMZ5PGDW
