You should look into a Dawn Simulator. I bought this one a month ago and so far I have really liked it. If nothing else, I haven't over slept since I've had it.
Customers who liked that lamp also liked this lamp.
I’m currently working on my budget for my comeback. If anyone has a desktop Christmas Story Leg Lamp they want to offload for cheap.
I got this one a couple of years ago and still swear by it:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WVH873X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Lightweight, adjustable brightness, stows tightly against a wall when not in use. Reaches over the entire width of the card table I do puzzles on.
I know it a weird piece. But i feel like this would've went well with the leg lamo from a Christmas story if you sat it on top.

2 Ottlites and a Conair light up oval mirror.
(The two big windows on either side help too.)
I like the Ottlites because they're a good simulator of daylight, and fold up when you're not using them. And I like the oval mirror because it has x1 magnification on one side and x7 on the other, which was hard to find for a light up mirror.

They need to be relatively close to be effective as far as I've read but it's worth it. It doesn't have to be elaborate just a bulb like this (you want it to be 6500k) and a desk lamp or clamp light .
Amazon has a big Doctor Who Gift section. Here is one my favorites from it that would be suitable for room decoration.

Apparently a $49.99 packaging of it as well.
Not the same as OP's but this one has a dimmer function and isnt too expensive... I used it for a couple years and it worked very well till it died... obviously not an amazing build quality unfortunately but it beats spending $200. most of the reviews are positive too so maybe mine was defective.
Just bought one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I811PG6/ref=twister_B00R33IBYE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Keep with the mid century modern get a nice tall lamp 1 or 2 and side table on each side.
Two big prints on the back would add a lot of depth, don't go over board with colors. i really like the Japanese style 1 and 2 with the mid century.
It actually inspired me to buy another one of their products and I love it too, I have their LivingColors lamp and it's fantastic. It sits behind my main display (I have a pretty crazy setup since I work from home, one 30'' with a 21'' wide screen on either side, rotated to portrait) and it works basically like those flat panel TVs that have the colored back lights. I want to get more of them once I can figure out plausible justifications (i.e. something cool to do with them).
It’s this one. https://www.amazon.com/TaoTronics-TT-DL16-Brightness-Official-Licensing/dp/B01EJJDD10

I'm very happy with it. It's quite bright, and I like that you can change the color temp which is useful when painting.
As others have suggested, light is the primary way to wake them up, but I feel technique matters here. Our bodies are designed to wake up in response to light, we have special receptors in our eyes that are tuned to the blue light spectrum present in natural light. However, if you flash on the lights you are simply asking for them to flip over or cover their face, what you need is a sunrise simulator. This will gradually wake them up over the course of 30-90 minutes and will be much more successful. Here is one that I use that works with most lamps (you will need an incandescent bulb).
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AXL8Q02/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Along this same vein, if you want them to go to bed earlier, try turning down the lights the same time every night to promote sleepiness. Devices such as iPads, TV's, phone, etc emit blue light like it's their job. Make a rule like "no screens after diner".
For more tips, research sleep hygiene. Our internal body clock (the Circadian Rhythm) is controlled by many ques, primarily light, but also routines, exercise, food and disrupted by many of modern world norms. A sudden wake up is neither healthy nor successful for people that are not biologically early birds. Good luck!
...And the US link
I read some bad reviews on that though, yet I saw this through related items.... kinda interested now
It's a 27 watt CFL (120 watt equivalent) that I got on Amazon.
This is just winter seating. The windowsills get too cold even with newer windows. It's not a long term solution, but it keeps them happy enough for a few months.
I don't care what anyone says, lighting is important. It's second only to sound as the two biggest and easiest to fix flaws that damn near every streamer has issues with.
The good news is that you don't need to go overboard with professional lights. You can get the Neewer lighting kits for under $50 and, if you watch for sales, you can get it as cheap as $35. It comes with three lights and two umbrella diffusers meant for three point lighting set-ups.
But you don't even need to go that far really. If you're streaming from a couch, you'll do better with a kit. But if you're streaming from your desk, you can get away with using a couple of cheap desk lamps with CFL bulbs in them, one acting as a key and the other acting as a back. You can use the monitor light as your fill. You can probably find lamps like that cheaper from Walmart or the Dollar Store, honestly, but the link is more to give you an idea.
Whatever you do, do not just use your room's overhead light. It can create issues with backlighting and some really harsh shadows across your face. Also, make sure to put shades or curtains over all your windows in order to block out sunlight. The light through a window can change a lot in as little as an hour just as the sun moves, let along changing weather conditions. It can cause you headaches trying to light yourself if you've got that sort of inconsistent light screwing things up every time you set up.
Got two of these with a set of RGBW bulbs. Only about $50 total for the rig. Good luck!

I work as a full stack software engineer, and primarily work from home. I also greatly enjoy gaming, so this setup is built with that in mind as well. Due to some family circumstances, the room that I had set aside for my office ended up being taken, so I had to build my office into the corner of my living room. This setup has evolved a lot over time, but I feel like I finally have it to a point where I can share it.
Some quick notes:
This space has really become a place where I can easily zone and be creative without feeling uncomfortable or uninspired. I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed seeing the incredible workspaces shared previously here. Links to components of my setup follow!

Got mine on Amazon here. Pretty much exactly as advertised and not too expensive.
Third time mama, here:
I got a little desk lamp - $20 online. It HAS to be a touch lamp so it doesn't click, it's nice to have a dimmer , and mine even switches from warm to cool colors. It has a flexible neck so I can aim it at the wall, the diaper changing table, etc. Nothing fancy and it can be used forever - I avoid cutesy nursery stuff that will have to be swtiched out when kiddo gets older. Anything I can buy now that will go with them when they move out is a win, in my book. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XC5KNB6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also found online ($5 for 3) outlet covers that have little nightlights at the bottom of them, so they point at the floor, and they have light sensors in them so they turn off during the day. Those are nice for that walk through the house from your room to baby's room, and maybe one in baby's room, too. They aren't available on amazon anymore, but they were from AIDA and called the Outlet Wall Plate with LED Nightlights.
I use something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00UV41UR2?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
The important thing is a lamp with a daylight bulb, so you see accurate colors as you paint.
Not sure on adapters but...

I've just received one of these lamps and as soon as it was setup ordered 2 more and 2 more hue bulbs!
Is a screw in e27 fitting, there's customer pic on amazon using hue Colour bulb, diffuses the colours very nicely and only £10, can get from IKEA directly for £6 but they wanted £20 delivery to my address.
This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00APAQT4Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
but I can't find the white version of it, so the white color might be out of stock.
Like this one! I got mine at Big Lots for really reasonable priced, here's a picture of how mine are set up.

I appreciate it!
Here is the lamp
In case the link dies you can also google 'BYB E476 lamp' to find it elsewhere
I'm currently using this lamp. It's decent but you can't put it on a timer because it requires a touch to turn it on. So I'll probably make my own mini LED strip and put an Arduino ramp up/ramp down timer on it.
It’s on Amazon here , but it’s less than half the price if you can find it in an IKEA store. Then I just threw a Philips Hue bulb in each one.
US version - of the 4 "similar" products listed, all are under $50. And all 70 reviews appear to be couponers. Not to say it isn't nice, but at $250 no one has purchased and then reviewed it.
But you can call it all sour grapes - I think I applied for it on Tomoson when posted for the US months ago, and wasn't approved. So I want to believe that the $50 versions I did get are just as good.
Glad to hear it is nice.
As soon as I read "burlesque," this popped to mind: https://smile.amazon.com/Christmas-Story-inch-Replica-NECA/dp/B0000C6ECF A huge classic, lol. Not quite fantasy-ish, so I'll do some diggin'!
just quickly searched the model you mentioned so I'm not sure but it seems like it's just a dimmable lamp with some 'eye care',whatever that's supposed to mean - most likely just white light.
since it's unavailable I couldn't find a price so this might be out of budget but I can really recommend
https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Reading-LED-Desk-Lamp/dp/B0178HLTXO
it's basically white light but you can change the tone, doesn't have any flickering at all. it's the closest to natural light I've experienced, especially because it just doesn't seem like the light comes from a lamp/lightbulb because of the shape
Probably not. I think this means you're still tired--also what lumen output or wattage is the light that hurts your eye?
If I wake up earlier than I want to, I find the dimmer outdoor natural light much more pleasing than bright incandescent light.
So if you're using even a 60 watt bulb then it just may be that it's not a natural amount of light at that time.
I recommend $10 Lutron lamp dimmer that plugs unto the wall or a $40 300 watt capable device that brightens your lamp lights in the morning instead of instant brightness.
https://www.amazon.com/Lighten-39-95-Uses-Your-Lamp/dp/B00AXL8Q02#productDescription_secondary_view_div_1487867999063
I use this lamp: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EJJDD10/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EorMBbYR764DQ - the variable color temp and brightness are on point!
Chairs are super tricky, I would recommend trying them out before buying. The next chair I get will probably be an ergohuman style chair. ( Something with an aggressive lumbar and a headrest which is lacking in most chairs )
Any normal looking chair with robust padding is probably a 'safe' choice though. Just stay away from barely padded fake leather chairs. Padding is really the most important factor if you're going in blind.
I have a cheap swing-arm lamp - $20 - with a - $4 - clamp-on mechanism for my desk. That and a bright white, high lumen bulb will work very well for $30~. A friend has a more robust version, which is basically a giant hinged arm with built-in, color-changing LED bulbs. That's much more impressive but is > $100.

This lamp is ugly as all get out (it reminds me of a dental light) but my dad bought one for my mom to read with... I've stolen it to do makeup with, it's crazy bright, easily adjustable and it's white light instead of that typical yellow glow which can throw off your makeup.

Not joking. Start very simple and learn as you go. Single point direct lighting (no diffusing through a softbox or umbrella) will teach you a lot about intensity, shadows, glare, etc.
Then maybe move up to a pair of softboxes with single bulbs. After that you could get into gels or reflectors to add colour or change the colour temperature of the light.
TaoTronics TT-DL16 Stylish Metal... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EJJDD10?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Best decision I have ever made and can’t believe how I could paint without it. It has 5 color temperatures to choose from and let’s you adjust brightness.
I'm in a similar boat. Serious winter SAD and I live in Chicago so there's no getting around the weather here. These are some things that might help that aren't lightboxes:

I don't know if you're a reader, but I tend to load up on lighthearted, warm area centric novels so that I can at least imagine being in a bright, sunny place. It helps a lot.
This is the one I have
You should get him something to show your appreciation. Because you know he's going to send you one.
It does man. Reference no lighting , Reference lighting . It looks crisp af in 1080 too. This is my lighting setup two cheap desk lamps covered in baking paper.
Edit: Watched your latest vid. I noticed you do alot of full face-cam cuts like you said. Additional lighting will bring up the quality of the camera, but with deep zooms you will still get a somewhat pixelated picture, but not as bad as you have now. If you want crisp zoom ins, you'd be looking at a dedicated DSLR camera, possibly through a capture card if you want syncs to be easy, with additional lighting (additional lighting is a must), Regardless, i'd just get some cheapo lamps see if it brings up the quality if not start looking at dedicated cameras.
Two of these behind the monitor would be the way to go with if your strapped for space, just remember to put in high luminosity bulbs, l.e.d's get pretty high in luminosity and don't push out too much heat.
Ottlite makes really nice bright lamps.
