This is close.

I searched Amazon for "desktop keyboard stand."

There's several options there that might work for you.

Specs:

  • MacBook Pro 2017 15"
  • iPad Pro 2018 12.9"
  • Logitech MX Ergo trackball
  • Massdrop CTRL keyboard
  • Omoton Laptop stand
  • Duet Display software

I also have the Luna display adapter but I tend to use the software only solution more to keep one of USB-C ports open. Catalina users can use Sidecar but I'm not quite ready to make the switch until the OS is more stable.

I would do the following to be sure your laptop will last you several years:

  1. Download software to monitor the temp of you CPU and GPU, personally I use MSI Afterburner
  2. If your CPU temps are higher than 85C, consider undervolting using this guide
  3. If your laptop is hooked up to an external monitor, get a laptop stand like this to increase airflow
  4. Every 6 months or so, remove the bottom panel of the laptop, and use compressed air to clear out dust from the internal components

Aside from that, I would also recommend replacing your slow 1TB HDD with a 2.5" SSD. I own a Y740 myself, and I replaced the HDD with this following this guide

I'm slightly older if that really matters. Here's my advice.

One thing you can do right now without buying anything is to remove the stickers off of your laptop. Seriously, it makes a difference.

For all my recommendations I'm going to list price first as I imagine budget being a concern.

$5 - Do you only use the external drive when at your desk? If so, mounting it to the corner of the desk, the wall, (or if you ever pick up an external monitor, the back of that) might look cleaner.
I use this stuff to stick things - https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-051141397252-Extremely-Mounting-414P-ST/dp/B018GKCI82/ You can find it at stores like Target.

With all the cables coming out of your laptop, I think a USB hub would really help your setup as all of the cables would go directly into one place. If your laptop has a USB-C port and supports charging over it, you can get a USB-C hub so you can connect peripherals and charging over one cable.

$15 - If you don't have USB-C, something like this looks good - https://www.amazon.com/Anker-4-Port-Macbook-Surface-Notebook/dp/B00XMD7KPU/

It has four USB 3.0 ports and is very clean and small. However, the cable is a bit short.

Around $79 - If you do have USB-C, I have this hub and it's pretty good, however the cable is short and can feel a bit loose at times.

$25 - A basic colored mousepad might look cleaner if you want to go for that look. I have this mousepad and recommend it, but it's all personal preference.

$35 - I think you should pick up a headphone stand so the grease and oils don't get on your laptop screen, I recommend this one - https://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Aluminum-Headphone-Stand-Holder/dp/B019PI9QFC/

It gives you three extra USB 3.0 ports, a headphone jack and comes in four different colors, and has a solid aluminum build. If you don't need those extras, this stand is still aluminum and comes in at $12 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GZFX6ND/

Probably around $100-$150 - The biggest upgrade you can make here I think is an external monitor and keyboard. It would improve your setup's ergonomics significantly. This desk looks pretty small, so I would recommend something no bigger than 24 inches in screen size. The resolution of the screen and such would depend on what you want and your laptop's power. However, I highly recommend at least 1920x1080 resolution.

$25 - If you ever do decide to upgrade to an external monitor, you probably wouldn't be able to use two screens on your desk, and the closed laptop would take up way too much space. I would recommend this laptop stand - https://www.amazon.com/Vertical-Adjustable-OMOTON-Aluminum-Chromebook/dp/B0769G51R7/

I have it myself and it's very well built, adjustable, and makes things a lot cleaner if you use an external monitor. It has branding on one side but if you flip it you can just use the side with no branding so it looks super clean. You can make it very stable on the desk with some simple double-sided tape.

That's all I have for now. Enjoy your setup!

Not the OP, but I switched to a standing desk and noticed a difference in literally just a couple of days. Hips are still tight as hell, but my APT is less pronounced and my chronic lower back pain is definitely diminished. I have one of these, and when I need a break I just move it out of the way and kneel down behind my desk.

u/designerspit · 4 pointsr/macsetups

> replace that book with a (cheap) monitor bridge and put your MacBook under that bridge.

or alternatively, buy a $40 monitor arm, to open up the space on your desk, and a vertical laptop stand (Like this $16 one, although there are nicer ones)—and coincidentally that's what's on the screen in your YouTube video!

I also always recommend that same long mouse pad, but without a logo ($13).

For pencils and such, you can get a small organizer at Target, and just throw everything in there as a "catch all."

Otherwise, everything about this looks very personal and lived in which is nice to see how people work and stay productive.

I own or have owned all the ones I linked below. I don't use my laptop as a desktop so it's not connected to any of my monitors. The reason I bought the stands is to house the laptop when not in used or when I connect it to my TV.

  1. iQunix Vertical Laptop Stand: This laptop stand works well. The rubber padding is pretty thick so I didn't worry too much about possibly scratching it, especially around the opening edges. Also, the design of this stand allows good airflow if you want to have the fan vent pointing down.
  2. Twelve South BookArc: This stand is probably one of the nicest stand I owned. It's everything above plus the leg slot that allows you to run your cable under if needed. If you're looking for a stand to display your laptop, I say this would be it. Also, because of the extra rubber padding around the opening of the stand, you can slide the laptop in with ease.
  3. Jarlink Vertical Stand: This here is a decent stand that I liked because it's pretty minimal. It's smaller than the other two and has a nice weight to it. It's also adjustable so it should work with most laptops. However, it's kind of a PIA to adjust the thing to the right fitting if you have OCD like me. Oh, there are no slots on the bottom so ventilation isn't great depending on how you use it.
  4. Seenda Vertical Stand: This is the stand that I use the most when I'm not using my desktop. It's adjustable to fit most laptop sizes and can be used as a height stand for a more comfortable typing position (I use the height stand a lot). It also has a 2nd slot where I place my iPad (this was a huge plus for me). There are no slots on the bottom so ventilation isn't great depending on how you use it. The biggest con to this stand is that there are no rubber padding around the top edges of the opening. So when you slide your laptop in, you want to be a little careful.

I have one like this: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Cycle-Laptop-RAD-Products/dp/B07BQZY9RL

(I think mine is the conquer fake). Mine seems sturdy and the platform at the top is plenty big, although the closed U end of the stand sticks further forward than I actually have room for.

I actually run zwift off my desk top and just run a long HDMI cable to the TV and put a little wireless keyboard on that stand.

Here's what I mean by projector stand, there are many varieties: https://www.amazon.com/Mount-Projector-Rolling-Adjustable-Presentation/dp/B06X9CBY6Y

u/[deleted] · 3 pointsr/Fitness

I think that's a cool design for a standing desk if you cut the price in half. For ~$75 I could get this for the monitor and this for the keyboard and mouse.

Dude, I hear you. I have no use for more than one set of keys and I already have a Sub 37. I have a glass L-shaped desk with the sub on one side, a monitor in the corner, a Push 2 on the other side, with a monitor on the riser above. No room for another synth.

I've been looking on Amazon for potential solutions. I might try using two of these as a ghetto riser to have it above my sub.

I got the same thing as OP: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078RD7R26

Word of advice, esp to OP, if it is the same dock as I have, aside for the photo, I wouldn’t keep the Apple logo faced up like it is, this stand blocks the rear vent enough that’s it’s not allowing the computer to properly cool. Unfortunately Apple logo has to be upside down.

Nice setup OP!

By the way, yes that link you shared was the right shelf. They’re attached to cheap monoprice speaker stands. I removed the telescoping bit and just use the base and main tube part of the stand. The threads don’t exactly match the Avantone threads in the bottom of the speaker but they do thread in far enough without stripping threads.

Honestly for the price you can't go wrong, but if you're looking for something long term and sturdy this isn't it. This is fine for bedroom DJing but I don't like having to go out with this one, it's really not the most stable thing out there.

u/TVBrainSurgeon · 2 pointsr/Battletops

You got a nice setup going on here, I like the consistency of the color theme. Idk what's beside your laptop and monitor, it looks like a pillow. Maybe get that out and move your laptop beside the monitor with a nice stand. You may not notice now, but the continued pressure over your laptop screen will damage it overtime. Also some red LEDs could give your setup a lot more life.

I used to have a cooling pad (Zalman NC-2000) - it worked well with many Windows notebooks, because they usually have a air intake at the bottom, because, most cooling pads "push" the air towards the notebook.

Doesn't help anything with a Macbook though. Macbooks take their air from all open ports (keyboard for example). The heat is let out through the aluminum body and the side fans of course.
So, "pushing" the air towards the notebook with cooling pads doesnt help. One could argue that cooling the body would help, but trust me, it doesnt.

When idle (with Chrome (4-5 Tabs), iTunes, Mail and Skype opened), the macbook had about 55°C.
With the cooling pad in idle mode, it had about 55°C as well.
When gaming, it was 90-100°C with both as well.

What help though, was a stand that raises the notebook.
These ones do help though:

Belkin Loft Stand
or this

TwelveSouth HiRise

because there will be much room UNDER the notebook for the air to ventilate.
I am now at 45°C idle / 80°C gaming.

Hope this helps :)

u/WhippersnapperUT99 · 2 pointsr/projectors

I picked up a generic Chinese CL760 (720p native) projector for $90 or $95 shipped on Amazon when they had either a price mistake or an unusually low price (it had to have been $90 because I think Chase Freedom cards were doing 5% cash back on Amazon at the time). I just project onto a large wall in my living room using this stand.

I'd say my total cost so far for the projector, stand, longer power cord, 20' HDMI cable, and a strap was about $175. For that price I've been pretty happy, though I can see some of its shortcomings. I might upgrade to a name brand 1080p deal at some point if I can find a white hot deal (Black Friday, SlickDeals.net special, etc.), but for getting started and testing whether I'd like having a projector, it's been great.

u/MisterQuiggles · 2 pointsr/thinkpad

I have the Mantiz Venus eGPU setup with my 980ti in my X1C6 and it's OK, definitely buggy and problematic at points (like using third party cables, driver updates, USB ports don't work well) but it's way better than the Lenovo Graphics Dock I was using earlier.

As for accessories, I bought this stand which I like a lot. There's so many types, so if you need one, there's plenty to choose from. I also bought a USB-C to 4 port USB-A hub from Aukey that fixes the USB problem on the eGPU.

One minor note, if you use a kensington lock, make sure you know it works with the unit first, one of my cables works and one doesn't. It had to do with the length of the kensington connector, for models where something sticks out permanently they don't seem to work (more portable ones) versus ones that are more permanent seem to work fine. I can elaborate on this if need be.

I think the HDR panels are in high demand, but I highly recommend it. It's a beautiful screen on my unit, and the brightness is great.

Monitor Stand and Keyboard Stand

Btw the keyboard stand was made for laptops but works really well with my midi keyboard. I took off the wood block because it didn't really help and it looked ugly to me.

u/ShakaKT · 2 pointsr/Alienware

There are none that are proper for that laptop, you'll either cover up vents or won't be able to plug in cables to the back. Here is what I'm using with my 15r3 and a LG 27mb85r QHD monitor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K7NDBZQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can get just the laptop stand, or a combo that can also mount a vesa compatible monitor. Be aware though in the picture they actually have the laptop tray mounted upside down, the bottom lip that keeps the laptop from sliding is obscured because of the improper assembly. They are great for decreasing footprint of your computer setup.

u/jay_jay_man · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I've been working at home for the past 8 years. I'm in a similar situation as you where I end up spending 10 to 14 hours in front of a computer per day. I was having lower back pain as well. What relieved the issue was switching to a standing desk. I've been using it entirely for the past 11 months (got it setup in January). It's made a world of difference. It took about 2 months to get use to but after that there's no looking back. At first you'll get some foot fatigue from standing so many hours. Get a comfortable running shoe with tons of foot support or/and a standing mat. I got a cheap standing desk setup from amazon for about $30 and the mat for the same price. No need to spend hundreds of dollars setting up one.

For exercise, I'd focus on ones that strengthen the lower back. Your lower back is weak from all that sitting and it's this weakness that's making it feel tight and unconfortable. Throw some supermans into your routine. They gently work the lower back.

Also, I find regular theraputic massages helped a lot. If you can afford one, I recommend heading to a good one that'll take care of your upper body. They provided with lots of relief.

This is the laptop stand.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000KHPJIQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like it. I like that the bottom can have clamps to clamp to the desk, or regular legs.

I've seen lots of places say that the m-audio speakers die about a year later. Hoping that's not the case with me. Did you leave your powered on all the time, or did you shut them off when not in use?

I shut them off unless I need speakers, and I'm hoping that the ones that die are left on all the time, but I kind of doubt that.

Thanks!

You could probably DIY something on the cheap with a trip to Home Depot. A single laptop stand isn’t a great idea IMO. Maybe 2 tho...? Side to side movement would be fine, I’d just be worried about pressure on the back when hitting those top buttons and the controller would hang over . Above is all the basic stuff you need for this hobby, I might of missed something, but don't think so.

Get the models and paints from https://www.darksphere.co.uk/pgc.php?c=1106 as it could literally mean for example, in my case, I can buy 3 manticores(the thing with a load of rockets) for the price of 2 manticores from the offical site or shop of gamesworkshop.

Everything is about 30% cheaper than offical places but literally the same stuff.

Also, look on ebay daily as they have some great deals sometimes, also would really pay to get some cheap shitty model and practice on it, rather than getting some nice and new model and using it as practice.

Hope this helps:)

Can anyone recommend a stand for using a graphics tablet at an angle? I've got an Intuos Pro Medium. Currently I'm using one I made myself with old binders taped together and a nonslip kitchen liner. I've been looking at laptop stands (like this one) but am concerned that the protruding catches at the bottom will get in the way since they're meant for thicker devices.

My I suggest this? 12 South makes some really cool stuff, but outrageously expensive.

I have my laptop connected to a metal 'dock' that keeps it in the vertical position and the fans are completely unobstructed. I have it connected to a external display and a keyboard and mouse

The dock I have:

It's super heavy and has a superior build quality for the price. I definitely recommend

3000 is not necessary then? What about 120 grit? I have found a decent deal for a 240-2000 grit pack. Is that good? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009QZEQKK/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_apa_s3dGzbBBJ71NV

These stands are really cool for midi controllers, drum machines, your laptop, etc. I have a few of them laying around and your gear looks a lot cooler and is easier to use with a slight angle https://www.amazon.com/Halter-Ventilated-Adjustable-Laptop-Stand/dp/B01N0KDPRB/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1506352605&sr=8-23&keywords=laptop+stand

I feel like my sandpaper was too coarse for the kit so I used it sparingly, there's a set of sandpaper with various high grit kit on amazon for about £5 = $8

The stand is nice. I'm considering upgrading to this one though.

I used to use the mic for podcasting, now I use it for meetings and the occasional voiceover.

I like it a lot. wish I was adjustable. It puts the laptop at a perfect viewing angle.

Maybe get a laptop stand or something to put the mixer (or something else) on? I have the same mixer as you (ZMX862) but a really really cramped desk so I have it (and my Circuit) on two of this laptop stand.

I used my wallet too on my 13 r3 until I got a foldable stand from Amazon.

and yeah if they decide they dont love programming, it's still a great stand!

Not a straight tablet stand, however this stand works very well with my SB2 while open, it's cheap, solid and the finish is similar to the SB. I have also spun the screen and stand 180 to get a face level tablet mode.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CD8LGJ7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title

Yeah they look pretty identical to the ones I have, they are very good. I put 25x lens in they come with 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x loupe lenses. With all the lenses you will find that they are close focus so you will be almost (and most likely) touching the nib to the loupe as it has to be that close to be in focus but once in focus they are really good.

Yeah I think Montblanc kinda have this attitude based on the brand awareness, take it or leave it. I've heard this a lot from people, that's one reason why I've never really explored Montblanc that and the amount of bad service requests you hear on here about Montblanc puts me off a lot. My last two Visconti's I bought I was given two sets of finial initials and they put them on my pen along with a free Visconti bookmark and a leather two pen pouch. Visconti do seem to look after customers a bit better, although I think it's only a suggestion as not all Visconti retailers do the same thing but many do.

Something else you might want to get is this. It's really good for helping to smooth out nibs or round them off. Basically ink up your pen and take the lower size (coarser) and do figure of 8's to smooth a nib out, do a couple and then move to the next higher grit size. Most people will go all the way up to 28000 grit but I found just starting and ending on 2000 grit helped really smooth out a badly scratchy Monteverde nib I had. The tines were aligned properly just bad tipping on the tines or where the tines were cut into two.

Hey,...I feel really bad...I completely forgot to take the picture by the time I had my set up complete! Forgive me!! Hopefully my description will make up for it.

My projector is attached to a projector stand. I bought this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06X9CBY6Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got that one because it had the greatest degree of forward tilt (30 degrees) that I could find.

I place my projector on top of my kitchen counter then tilt my projector as forward as it can go to get the greatest down angle I can do. I extend my projector stand to as high as I can also. So you can visualize my projector is about 8 feet up pointing down towards my table.

I still couldn't get the exact angle I wanted, so I had to do two more things. I used a dremel tool to cut into the angle limiter so that I could increase the angle beyond 30 degrees. Then, I used wood shaped like a door stop to slide between my projector and projector stand to have an even greater forward tilt. This makes it look like it is about to fall of the projector stand (which it most definitely would) so I bought some harnesses and I tied down my projector to my projector stand.

Lastly, my table is a white board. On the white board I used black 1cm width tape and measured out a 1"x1" grid on the entire thing. You can see a picture of my table from one of my earlier posts: https://www.reddit.com/r/FlowScape/comments/ao6wfc/dd_with_flowscape_how_i_was_able_to_dm_last_night/

In this picture, you can also see that we use little minis for our characters...and my player's excess supplies of dice...Also, the projector is standing about 4 feet behind the guy with the HP laptop. Hope that helps. I will try** to grab a picture soon! Sorry for forgetting!!

I have a 3M LX550. Using it with a ThinkPad. External monitor sits beside it, setup as a two-monitor system. Use a USB mouse and keyboard - so I'm really just using the laptop's display and not the keys, as depicted in some of the product photos. The escalated height of the laptop's display puts it at about eye-level.
