OMG I've always said every character in The Walkding Dead is a moron!! Where are your spears!!?!?!?!? Those idiots are walking around with fucking hammers and pocket knives!! What kind of moron ever lets themselves get that close to a zombie?? I actually think if you had the time to work on something, you'd want sort of a half sword half spear so you could slash and poke like this thing:

http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q76/wastjer/spit-600.jpg

A Halberd would work too.

http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/images/Product/large/600640.png

There were used by Pikemen in medieval battles and were very effective against mounted opponents.

EDIT: Good news!! Amazon sells Halberds!!!! Now I can be prepared!

Part of a Halloween costume my wife custom made for me a few years ago. Parents were confused, kids thought it was the coolest costume ever. The swords were just crossed on the mantle until they disappeared and came back mounted to this...

I'd go for something like Cold Steel Training Swords. Not going to break on you anytime throughout the night and really blunt so you can hit your buddies with it. Downside is that up close it is obviously a training sword. Also, you'll have to make a scabbard or just make a loop to put it.
video showing the durability

That said, if you are going for looks maybe this or this or this would be a better choice. However, my experience with crap quality like this is it will break and it is marginally sharp so you could hurt someone or yourself if you unsheath it.

Cheers.

I bought a Cheap (£10) balisong trainer from amazon this one And after a few hours, the bite handle keeps going completely stiff, sometimes 5 minutes of wiggling it, it will go back to normal for a few minutes. I though this would last at least a few weeks without screwing up, not a few hours. Is there anything I could do? Maybe squirt some WD-40 in their? It has no screws though, so I doubt it could do any good. I don't wanna have to spend $100+ on something just so it lasts a long time, I've literally been flipping for a few hours max.

u/ibelieveinharley1 · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Kubotans and Maglites are good options too. Some countries don't allow firearms or knives, and mace/pepper spray aren't ideal in all weather conditions. (Source: a friend's mace blew up in her car in the middle of a hot summer day.)

For the $$$ (under $100) you cant find a better blade. The cost of a slab that size of heat treated 1075 High Carbon Steel alone is probably that much.

$8 for 3, I got about 30 for practicing(less trips to pick them up) they are good, sometimes the string comes loose but glue is an easy fix.

u/squareknot20 · 2 pointsr/throwing

Hmm... that looks like a smaller version of what I used to throw, and the 6.5" size will definitely make it a big tricky to learn. Bigger knives are much easier. You can find a set of "screaming eagles" pretty cheap if you find you enjoy knife throwing after you get frustrated.
I'm not gonna try to explain a technique that's much better explained from a real source, but one thing that definitely helped me when I started was doing short (6-10" flippy throws, instead of adding-force-but-not-trying-to-send-the-thing-spinning-like-a-bat-out-of-hell throws like you'll pick up pretty easily =p), 1/2 flip throws, nice and close just to begin to learn how to feel for the correct flip.

Also, do not be tempted to spin the bloody thing on your finger. I almost slit my wrist open with kunai.. good luck!

(also since you have kunai, have you ever read the history behind the design? )

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I choose this katana, so I could be the white Michonne and I'd want /u/NJBilbo with me because he's always got my back and /u/Miss-Omnibus because boobs.

That's why we're the best...boobs.

u/MoonSpider · 2 pointsr/SWORDS

Sure, but that's why I said "looks like."

It's an extremely narrow one-handed interpretation of what is in actuality a very large two-handed sword, with cast fittings. Leads me to suspect that a wall-hanger is more likely than a beater. EDIT Ah yes, a $27 decorative piece sold by BudK.

u/Cynical_Ostrich · 2 pointsr/socialism

Indeed, there are quite a few decent stainless steel display ones out there for like $50 bucks (that aren't useable) but at the same time you could also find some wicked budget swords for around that same price that may not look as good. If, however, you had the money and were looking into not only good looks but also good functionality, I would honestly have to recommend Albion swords. They're pricey as hell but literally some of the best you'll ever find. There are also some more less pricey yet still functional swords out there like ones made by Windlass or Hanwei. I would honestly reccomend just browsing Kult of Athena and making sure to select 'show battle ready only' and 'sort by lowest price'. Here's a couple more that are also pretty damn good that are more of choppers but are nevertheless good. My one recommendation if you're going to search for stuff is to look at reviews and to ALWAYS avoid Cold Steel.

I added this sword. For fun because I recently discovered all the cool armor and swords amazon has! I also have chainmail, a crusader helmet, shield, and other swords in my wishlist. this sword in particular because it's cheap lol

u/Decloo6 · 1 pointr/knives

Thanks a lot for the info, I did a bit of research and it still seems that gil hibben set would be the best for me. I'd prefer to keep the set under 50$, it doesnt have any guards on it or anything, and all the reviews are great. Is there anything wrong with it?

EDIT: I also found these, are they any good? 12 inches, no guards, theres a bit of grip but that can't make much of a difference.

u/ThatOneJeepGuy · 1 pointr/swordartonline

I found one here. The only thing is; it's carbon steel which doesn't reflect off light as nicely, and the sheath is wooden.

I have seen a complete set that was metal, but it is unable to buy right now.

I'm completely new to this, and I would love your opinions on what trainer I should start with. I'm looking at these three:

  1. Butterfly Knife Trainer Practice Comb No Offensive Blade Black,by Moon Boat

  2. Bear & Son Cutlery 114TR Vein Butterfly Trainer Knife, 5", Silver

  3. Icetek Sports 44477 Metal Practice Balisong Butterfly Knife Trainer, Blue

Or if you know of a better one to get, I'd love to hear it.

I got one of these for my son to wear on Halloween. It's short, does not have an edge (though the tip is very pointy) and we had it so he couldn't remove it from the scabbard. I would recommend it but as others have said: it should be handled with utmost care.

Seriously, this is exactly what you're looking for

ive been playing with throwing knives since i was a little kid. sometimes for laughs, my wife will toss things (old cd cases usually) in front of one of my targets and ill pin them to the targets. the kiddos always seem to get a kick out of it. i consider my knives toys. however if used correctly and with proper skill/training, they are very very deadly. personally, anything less than about 1ft for a throwing knife tells me that it doesnt have enough mass to carry the force im going to put into it. the smaller knives just plain dont penetrate enough. the ones i usually play with are fantastic. they easily go about 3 inches through a 2inch plywood sheet. i dont use traditional targets, i use asheet of plywood with an outline of a person with a map of the human circulatory system on it. something like this generally 1 puncture will not be enough to kill, but i suspect that somebody with a large knife sticking out of them, bleeding heavily will probably stop to reevaluate their priorities. 2 blades in any of thoes arteries at the same time, and a person starts leaking like a busted milk jug. when i practice with them, i generally keep 2 or 3 in my left hand that i can easily fan out for blocking and 1 in my right hand that i can strike with, putting 1 finger in the ring and holding it point down lets you use it traditional knife fighter style or swing it by the 1 finger with pretty surprising force. (about 2 inches deep into plywood) if you have a target at distance, you can easily tip the knife up and throw it, then grab another from your left hand to replace it. its alot faster and easier than you might think. the true flight knife that sonoflavey mentioned also looks decent, but ive practiced with screwdrivers before. pretty much anything with a little weight and a point works. in self defense terms, any heavyish aerodynamic piece of metal thrown hard enough is a fair deterrent and theyre just fun to play with. if you are going to play with them, why not play with them in a manner than makes them potentially useful? that said, since getting my concealed handguns licence, i much much prefer my .45, and the knives are pretty much just for fun.

Generally for knife throwing, bigger is better, the smaller ones tend bounce back randomly. With a larger, well-balanced knife you'll have a much easier time to consistently stick it. The no-spin technique is the easiest to learn quickly, just start close and work your way back. I personally use the Expendables Kunai Set, I kid you not. Not out of love for the movie, but because they're big well balanced blades.

u/OfArgyll · 1 pointr/swordartonline

Cool, I have the exact same Elucidator in my room right now as OP :) If anyone is wondering I ordered mine from here.

They are great quality, and look really good too. The unfortunate thing is that the steel isn't high enough quality to really be sharpened much. I took mine to a professional who was able to put a slight edge on it - it's not much sharper than a butterknife aside from the tip which is extremely sharp - but I still think it looks a lot better with the edge at least!

  1. A Joseph Gordon-Levitt poster. Because he makes me VERY hot sweaty and I would like to do things with him that would cause me to be sweaty.

  2. There is nothing better than a slip and slide to help cool down on those hot days!

  3. No picnic would be complete without a giant ant

  4. I would love to vacation in Ireland, and I would bring home the Blarney stone [Disclaimer: Real Blarey stone is too big to bring home.]

  5. A salamander! My sister and I used to go up into the woods and collect them and put them in little plastic containers and keep them as pets. I will sadly say that we were pretty cruel to the little guys...I cannot forgive myself.

  6. On the camping trip, I would bring along a didgeridoo so that we could make sweet, sweet music in the woods. Pair with a harmonic and maybe some stump drums. Camping trips are always better with music!

  7. This sweatshirt is magical. If you watch Workaholics, you will understand.

  8. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers is an essential song to get pumped for a road trip!

  9. I guess I shouldn't have brought my katana in my carry on! You need protection against those plane hijackers though.
