How to get it off the plastic wrap?

These things are useful and not unitaskers!

Get some beans, and you'll have better coffee than 95% of campus.

If you want to move to a Chemex instead of the aeropress, you totally could, but remembering dorm life, I'd absolutely pick an Aeropress.

Fuck. Family going nuts. Need to finish 2nd half. Here's a start:

Preamble
I've been working on trying to compartmentalize my homebrewing process so that I can do it in bits and pieces as time allows. I've been thinking about this for a while. Here is the completely stripped down process. Minimal investment, minimal time. All links are what I easily found. I have not spent time trying to find the "best deal." Some will complain some of this equipment isn't good/nice enough. It is. Shipping is not included in any of the pricing. YMMV.

Parameters
For this thought experiment, we will be making 100ml (10x 10ml vials) of Test E @ 250mg/ml, with 2% BA and 20% BB. This will require 25g of powder, 2ml of BA, 20ml of BB, and approximately 55ml of carrier oil.

Step one: Brew
Equipment:
Beaker Set $6.49 (Amazon)
Borosilicate Glass Stir Rod $1.75 (Amazon)
Small Scale $15.69 (Amazon)
Stove/Cooktop $0.00 (Kitchen)

Consumables:
10ml syringe $12.11 / 5 pack, also has syringe filters (Amazon)
2ml Benzyl Alcohol $4.21 for 50ml (MedlabSupply)
20ml Benzyl Benzoate $5.53 for 50ml (MedlabSupply)
~55ml Cottonseed oil $6.38 for 100ml (MedlabSupply)
3ml syringe you should already have on hand from pinning

Process:
Take your 250ml beaker, place it on the scale. Add 25g of powder. Use 3ml syringe to add 2ml of BA to beaker. Use 10ml syringe twice to add 20ml of BB to beaker. Pour CSO until it fills up to 100ml line.

Place beaker on stovetop, turn heat to low. Stir with glass rod. Keep stirring. Keep stirring. Keep doing this until your mix is completely clear (all powder dissolved in).

Not even all that novel. It's just this with a lid and without measuring gradations.

You can actually acquire measuring spoons in those sizes too.

I love my OXO. It has a nice wide plate that can accommodate all sorts of produce and unwieldy objects, and a pull-out display for those occasions when I'm scaling onto a wide bowl or half-sheet pan that would otherwise obscure the readout on a smaller scale. There's also a backlight you can click in when it gets dark in the kitchen. It switches between ounces and grams, no prob, and the latest version of this scale can do ounces-only, rather than splitting measurements into pounds and ounces.

For small measurements, anything under 4g, I recommend a jeweler's scale like this one. Measuring anything under 1/8th of an ounce is a real crapshoot on large format scales.

u/palladiana · 10 pointsr/1200isplenty

u/josborne31 · 9 pointsr/tumblr

You can even buy measuring spoons in that size.

u/Lankience · 9 pointsr/Cooking

my food scale is one of the smallest things in my kitchen honestly. It was $15 and basically enabled me to make my bread, coffee, and baking in general a hell of a lot more consistent. I have a tiny kitchen too (and a girlfriend who likes everything put away in our even smaller cabinets), so I know what it's like to have minimal space, but the scale is not gonna break the bank and won't take up a lot of space. Here's the one I bought, I'd highly recommend it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018LXSPEA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Just think about it, it's worth having!

Frankford Arsenal powder trickler. Compact, nice heavy base for stability, even flow. I also have an RCBS trickler and hate it. It's not as stable and the dispensing arm thingy is a weird two piece design that never seem to flow well for me.
GemPro 250 digital scale. Do not waste your money on cheaper options. I don't have experience with the chargemaster type of scale. I like to do things manually.
Redding Imperial Sizing Die Wax. Best stuff there is. Works amazingly well. I also keep a lanolin/alcohol spray lube around for doing large batch work, but Imperial Sizing Wax does a better job.
Hornady Bullet Comparator set. You don't mention what cartridges you're reloading. THIS KIT DOES NOT INCLUDE 6.5mm. There's a 14 insert kit that includes more, or you can buy just the few inserts you need.
Frankford Arsenal bullet puller. I buy what's cheap. These don't last forever. All the hammering eventually cracks the plastic. I've tried several brands and they all break eventually. I usually keep two on hand.

So that covers what you already know you need. Here are some more recommendations.

Hornady 9th Edition. I use this more than all my other manuals combined. I shoot a lot of Hornady bullets, though. If you already have a favorite bullet brand, you should buy that brand's manual.

Lyman Shooters Check Weights. I use these every single time I reload. I like knowing that my scale isn't lying to me. Digital scales can be finicky sometimes! These are worth every penny.

Hornady Headspace Comparator set. This is a lot like the bullet comparator set, except that it measure to the shoulder of the case instead of the ogive of the bullet. If you're planning on monitoring the amount you're bumping your shoulders during resizing, this is what you need.

Lyman Case Prep Multi-Tool. The chamfer tool that came with your kit will do the job, but this Lyman multi tool is my preferred method. It also comes with primer pocket scrapers that will be useful, and primer pocket reamers you should throw away and never use.

RCBS Uniflow Powder Baffle. This will help your uniflow powder measure throw more consistent charges.

RCBS Advanced Powder Measure Stand. If you're going to do a permanent installation of your powder measure on your bench, you will want this stand. Its price is absurd, but it's a great stand.

RCBS Universal case loading block. Your kit came with one, but you need at least one more.

What is your plan for cleaning brass? Wet tumbling with steel pins is the way to go. I have the Frankford Arsenal unit. It's huge and noisy. If I had it to do over I would purchase the dual drum tumbler from Harbor Freight and buy steel pins from Amazon.

Redding dies don't come with shellholders. Did you remember to get one?

What is your plan for case trimming? You don't mention what you're reloading. The cheapest option, which is actually my preferred method, is the Lee case length gauge and shellholders with their cutter and lock studs.

There are some additional case prep tools, but they would depend on what you're doing. If you are dealing with brass that has military crimps, you'll need tools to deal with that. There are primer pocket brushes, primer pocket uniformers, flash hole deburring tools, and a million other little things.

That's all that's coming to mind right now. I'm sure I missed some stuff.

For me, a kitchen scale has been the most useful when calorie-cutting, because it gave me a good idea of portion size. This is the one I use, and its just over $10 and is nifty because it weighs in grams and ounces (although I'm sure most do). If you check amazon, some of the highest rated scales are under $15.

I got an Eachine 250 racer about a month ago. It has been a lot of fun, but there are a lot of details. My next racer will probably be a smaller/lighter 180 frame.

For FPV goggles I have three ideas. One, is get the status quo Fatshark goggles at whatever level you can afford. Two, get the HeadPlay HD goggles I got. Three, get the Avegant Glyph, which has the really nice feature of letting you pop them up and down without a band. I do really like my HeadPlay HDs, but they are big and bulky. I haven't perfected how to adjust the straps to get them to stay on my head well.

Arms, managed to break one without breaking a prop.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B016Y5U1JO/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Capacitors, they pop off very easily. I lost a capacitor at the same time I broke an arm. Or a hot glue gun, I Highly recommend putting hot glue over the caps next to each arm to help avoid the loss in the first place. You want a low temperature hot glue gun to not melt any plastic or traces. I consider the capacitor issue a design defect, but you can work around it with hot glue. The original revision seems to have lacked the capacitors, from pictures I have seen online.

Get a Taranis X9D Plus. It is a great transmitter. Also get a X4R-SB receiver, and use SBUS. The D4R won't let you control the lights too, because it can't do PPM and PWM at the same time. You can control them with the X4R-SB, SBUS+PWM. SBUS has great latency, 5-10ms. I was recently talking to a sponsored racer who told me that PPM, which is supposed to be 27ms with the D4R, is really more like 100ms. It averages the four last frames together. This link includes a case and X8R, which I think will work as well as the X4R, but you should do the research. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B014IYSXL6/ref=mp_s_a_1_5

To do SBUS+PWM, requires a special bind procedure. You want channels 1-8 as SBUS, and 9+ as PWM. The most relevant part is "jump S1&S3: SBUS, 9, 10, 11 or jump S2&S3: SBUS, 9, 10, 11 (No telemetry)" Here is a link that talks about it.

Small tie wraps like the ones already on the arms to hold the ESCs. You break an arm, and you will need to replace the tie wrap.

Soldering iron, solder, etc, because you have to desolder the ESC from the motor to replace an arm, and then resolder it.

Qtips and rubbing alcohol for cleaning. Mix the alcohol 50/50 with water. The flying field was muddy after lots of rain.

Carrying case of some kind. You don't want it banged around in transport, and same with the transmitter. It is best to get the X9D with the case, because people price gouge on the case stand alone.

Batteries, you can burn through them very fast. But watch out for their height. I bought some of the new "Graphene" 4S batteries, and they are really too tall to fit. Some people remove the back LEDs to make battery installation easier.

Battery charging/carrying bags to help with uncontrolled fires started by batteries. I have two, one for charging, and one for carrying.

A battery charger if you want to use 4S batteries. The included charger is 2S/3S only. I have a Hi-tech X1 which will only charge one battery at a time. You can also get the X4 which will do four at once.

A voltage monitor so you know to land when your battery voltage is low. The video signal includes the battery voltage as part of the OSD, but I prefer LoS while learning to fly. It lets me keep an eye on where I am in relation to trees. On the other hand I have yet to find a good place to mount a voltage monitor. With the length of the balance cable on batteries you are likely going to need a balance cable extension for 3S and another for 4S.

Small x-acto knife to help remove the double sided tape.

Size 2.0 hex wrench for the frame screws. It will be needed to replace arms.

Scale that can measure grams. You want to knowing and control weight.

Sunglasses to avoid problems seeing on sunny days. Lets say you are flying LoS, and look into the direction of the sun. You can't see the quad well enough to control it, because of glare from the sun.

ESC flashing adapters to change/upgrade the firmware. I am not sure these are the right ones for the ESCs on the Eachine. I think they are, but I haven't tried it yet.

Be sure to set a fail-safe, which is very easy with the Taranis. I had a fly away with my first Eachine, because of a defective Spektrum DX6 and lack of fail-safe. After that I switched to the Taranis, which doesn't cost much more and has way more capacity.

actually it's a smidgen or dash measuring spoon for dosage and all plus if you have a nice metal one it's easy to scoop because it's thinner than plastic/a shell ;)

That being said, I give you props for creativity, it's a perfectly good solution.

Hi! It sounds like you have a clear plan for what you are looking to achieve :) also, it helps that you're in the right place!

To answer your first question, a food scale is the best purchase I have made so far this year. I'm probably on a far tighter calorie budget than you (being short and female), but I think it's a great habit to get into regardless of how tight the calorie budget is. I picked up this one and it's been running perfectly. I can promise you that it doesn't take long to weigh foods either.

As for setting a goal, I personally found it good to have a final goal and mini milestones based off of my final goal. I chose an initial final goal based off of bmi, and it might change depending on how happy I am closer to the goal. My mini milestones are based on random things - I want to "beat" an advert for a weight loss company at the minute, which sounds silly. Find things that motivate you :)

I would say good luck, but I don't believe you need luck!

u/OGIVE · 5 pointsr/reloading

Not a dumb question at all!

The scale I have comes with a booklet (And you can purchase an app for it as well) that has codes in it. Since I cook all my food and weigh out all the ingredients, the book has a code for everything.

For example, I can punch in the code for a green bell pepper and when I put the bell pepper on the scale it tells me how many calories are in it, how many carbs, how much sodium. It is AMAZING.

As for good workout clothing. I told myself when I hit 50 lbs lost I would go get measured for my accurate bra size. So I went to a specialty store and got a consultation. I always thought I was busty, had NO idea I was a DDD, not a DD like I always wore. It was very much worth it!

Start by reading the FAQ at /r/reloading. Make sure you have a look see at a reloading manual or two as well.

Bare minimum equipment you will need is:

Press

Dies for your caliber

Calipers

Scale

Lube

I started with a Lee Challenger kit which is $116 and has everything you will need, minus a set of calipers for about $25. I also got a digital scale and a tumbler. All in you will be about $200 or so to start pumping out rounds.

u/Arkolix · 5 pointsr/espresso

I got the Brewista Smart Scale II about a week ago and am loving it so far! It has 0.1g precision, is water resistant + has a removable silicone cover, a built-in timer, and a bunch of fancy auto-tare/time modes if that's your thing. I definitely wanted a built-in timer as using my phone stopwatch or whatever sounded like kind of a pain over a 5+ year period. Others might feel differently, and some choose not to time at all, but I'm a believer.

Like I said I'm only a week in so I can't really comment on longevity. However I am extremely happy with it and can't imagine I'll feel the need to upgrade to a Lunar anytime soon if ever.

u/justcs · 4 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I got these. They definitly are nice, but they're not as strong as say a fork; like you can actually bend them with considerable effort, but for the price they work.

TL:DR- Save money by fapping, looking at /r/DIY_eJuice for recipes, buying shit, playing chemist, and fapping some more while then vaping your creation. $66 for ~400ml, only to get cheaper overtime.

As a broke college student, I jumped in to save money. Skip using syringes to measure volume; just mix by weight. I use Ecigexpress for a good portion of my purchases. Prices will be based off of them.

  1. Fap. A lot. Or give handjobs if that's your thing. I promise this important. If you're lame awesome, you can also buy a shake weight.

  2. Look for recipes you like on the /r/DIY_Ejuice subreddit. You can either look at the top posts, or search for juices you like. There might be a clone, or a clone attempt.

  3. Buy your supplies. The startup can be a little expensive, but IMHO is worth it in the long run.

  • Flavorings- Start with the smaller 10ml sizes unless you know you'll use them a ton (menthol, koolada, sweetener, etc). Those might run you about.... $3-$5 depending. Say you start with ten flavors (you might not have to, but up to you), then you're at $30-$50 for flavoring.
  • VG/PG- Unless you want max VG, I'd recommend buying both separately. 250MLish of each each should be enough for you to decide if DiY is your calling. 250 ml of PG and 250ml of VG will run you $5.29 a piece, so round up and call it $11 for your PG/VG base.
  • Nicotine- Fuck whatever you've heard. Buy 36 mg/ml in a 50/50 PG/VG blend. Higher strength might lead to more flavor, but IMHO not worth the risk at all. Ive been using 36 mg/ml for seven months, and I have no complaints, and I haven't died if when I spill the nicotine. Win win. Also, you want 50/50 as a max thickness to avoid any "hotspots" (uneven strength of the nicotine) after shaking. There's a debate on where to buy your nic from, but for my uses ECX wins with price. Haven't had anything of super high quality, but I've had zero complaints with the four or five batches I've ordered from them. 30ml of 50/50 36 mg/ml strength nic will run $5.
  • Gram scale- for mixing by weight. Make sure it's accurate down to the 0.00 grams range. The other thing to look at is the max capacity. The smaller ones will have a lower capacity, thus gigantic batches won't be able to be made, but if you're going for 30-60ml, this has never been an issue for my 200g scale. Found it on Amazon for $14 Though I'd check /r/DIY_eJuice for their list of recommended scales should you be able to find a better one.
  • Bottles- You can reuse the ones you have currently after a good wash, or buy your own. I wouldn't recommend buying these 30ml cobalt dropper bottles due to the fact that they leak like a bitch, never really close securely, and the fact that they doubled in price since I bought them.If you need new bottles, I'm sure you could find a dozen or so bottles for $6ish or so. EDIT- Found these. 30ml glass bottles- $0.70/ each. 30ml standard plastic dripping bottle- $0.39/each.
** Glass Pros- Holds less flavor after a wash, also some say they don't leech the chemicals plastics to, and mess up your flavor. Cons- More expensive, marginally not as convenient as plastic bottles for dripping/refilling a tank. Plastic: Somewhat easier to seal, and cheaper than glass. Cons- Potential leeching of chemicals that may mess up your juice after extended storage. I've personally never experienced anything noticeable, but to each their own.
  • Total of $66+ (plus $25 for your very own Shakeweight) or so, but YMMV. For ~400 ml that you can fine tune to your liking. This cost will decrease if you continue, as you probably won't have to buy another scale or more bottles for a while unless you really want to.

  1. Mix! Here's my go to mixing calculator. Not as 'advanced' as some of the other ones, but fuck it. It's simple, but provides a great layout to grow into. Go make yourself an account while you're waiting for your ingredients, and play around with it a bit. Hell, here's a fan friend/roomate favorite of mine. If you like root beer, I guarantee you'll like this. Three ingredients, and super simple. You can edit to add your preferred nicotine strength and/or final PG/VG ratio. EDIT: Banana nut bread that's also a friend favorite. Even easier.

  • Mixing process- After finding a recipe you want to make, and getting your supplies in, shake the fuck out of all your ingredients, especially your nicotine. If the recipe isn't already on the calculator, put everything in yourself (flavor and percent), making sure to identify your nic strength, the PG/VG ratio of your nic, and the desired PG/VG ratio of your juice.
  • Put your bottle on your scale, zero it out.
  • Shake each flavor again. A lot. Put all that fapping to good use.
  • Add each flavor to the corresponding weight (in grams) according to the calculator. MAKE SURE TO SHAKE EACH FLAVOR BEFORE ADDING IT TO THE BOTTLE I start with the nic, then flavors, then VG/PG. I don't really thing there's a right way, but that's been my system.

    Close your bottle.

Shake the fuck out of it again. See how important masturbation is to training for this?

  • The mixing process really only takes 5-10 minutes, it's not that bad once you get it down. Promise.

  1. Vape/steep!- Whew! That was a bit of effort! But if you find this interesting for one reason another, I will confirm it can be VERY rewarding. If it sounds like too much work for little yield, then so be it. I'd still recommend giving it a shot.

  2. Enjoy! Feel free to message me or SEARCH /r/DIY_eJuice if you have any questions. Always would love to help someone else.

    Edit: Words.

EDIT 2: Extra bottle info and another easy recipe from me.
u/squired · 4 pointsr/DIY_eJuice

I agree, I've never seen a decent package. Op, cancel if you can. Seriously, you don't need a "spoon spatula" or "Nicosorb Cartridge Filler", nor do you want their 30ml of 36mg Nic or 60ml PG/VG.

____

Here is an alternative setup to the one /u/IllustratedMann posted that mixes by weight (HUGE improvement over volume). His suggestion is great btw and very similar to what I started with. The following however is what I recently recommended to my brother.

  • 950ml VG - $13
  • 950ml PG - $13
  • 120ml 60mg Nic (PG) -$23
  • Scale - $15
  • 50x 10ml Bottles - $7
  • 12x 10ml Flavorings - $25
  • Latex Gloves - $2 (get from Walmart)
  • 3 Large Squeeze bottles - $2 (get from Walmart travel section or Hobby Store painting section)

Total: $100 (includes shipping | all are US, community-darling vendors)

That will get you a true hobby-level setup and enough nic to make ~600ml of 12mg juice with plenty of supplies to spare.

    ___

Also guys, the flavors you start with are less important than how you use them. There are several schools of thought, but I highly recommend ordering the flavorings for at least 2 highly rated user recipes that you find here (especially clone recipes), and play towards tweaking them to your preference. That way you start with amazing juice on day one, and your project juices are fun, not desperate.

The community is rapidly maturing and you no longer have to reinvent the wheel. You absolutely can, but get some ADV in the cupboard before you take that on. This comment talks a bit more about that.

Here is another hotbed of crowd-sourced info. Make an account and explore.

I use these. They fold up well, and when folded the buttons etc are covered so no risk of switching on in a bag. Only problem with them when out might be the lack of bowl/plate, but it's easy enough to use a side plate or the lid of your lunch box or whatever.

I have used that one for a year now and I love it over most of the other cheap ones because it has a bowl to weigh stuff that's easy to wash as opposed to a flat permanently attached platform.

Top pick: Brewista Smart Scale II

Budget pick: AWS SC-2KGA Digital

The Brewista includes quality of life features for coffee brewing including several auto modes (though I just use manual), a silicone drip mat, and an integrated count-up timer. It also has a faster responding load-sensor which means it will register and then update mass changes quicker on the display, making it less likely that you will overshoot your water mass targets when brewing pour-over. (You place your entire brew setup on the scale, and measure your water simultaneous with brewing.)

I have the first-gen scale which lacks the silicone drip mat and the rechargeable battery...and was also about $20 cheaper than the gen2 scale. Fortunately it has very long battery life and I can use rechargeable AAAs with it! I love the thing to death; definitely part of my essential coffee brewing kit along with my Kalita 155 pour-over, my Lido E-T manual burr grinder, and my gooseneck pouring kettle.

Jennings - $27 :: 4000g x 0.5g

Hario - $42 :: 2000g x 0.1g + timer

Brewista - $88 :: 2000g x 0.1 + timer

*I have the Hario and I like it. The time it takes to register weight is a little slow, but I don't care. Also I've spilt water on it (not more than 1/5 cup, and some ended up below it, near the battery) and I immediately clean/wipe and have had no water damage

You could get some cute kitchen gadgets like this pan, Nessie ladle, kitty measuring cups, Dinosaur pasta thingy. If your kitchen has a window some cute curtains might help? Or cute kitchen towels. A cute apron maybe? If you're wanting to revamp the kitchen, maybe paint the walls a new color? Or swap out the handles on the drawers and cabinets

u/gintonicisntwater · 3 pointsr/Drugs

I have the same scale and mine has been working fine for over a year now. From my observations I'd say it's exact to about 3mg.

It's unclear if this is really a knock off or just the same model sold under a different brand. That's pretty common for Chinese manufacturers.

The Gemini 20 costs around 23 $ as well. So no big difference there.

You can try buying a Dipse FB-20 or a G&G 20g scale for about the same amount. I've also had this G&G 50g/0,001g scale which sadly couldn't even stay calibrated within 5mg. I've recently looked at the JScale JSVG 20 for 139€ hoping to get better precision out of it. The GemPro 250 is also recommended in Psychonaut Wiki, but costs over 200€.

The truth is though, that these cheap scales just aren't very accurate. If you read the amazon reviews on any of these (US and Germany) you see that there are a significant amount people with broken or unreliable scales.

If you absolutely need better precision than 5mg, then you need to invest more than 1000$€ or rely on volumetric dosing. Also keep in mind, that the scales are more accurate in the middle of their range. So place 5g or 10g onto the scale when you weigh a substance.

Maybe you can return yours under warranty.

I know it does sound excessive to bring the scale with you but at one point when I was in college I felt the exact same way. I wish I would have had one to bring with me, or even measuring cups. My suggestion, besides learning to visualize how much is a cup/half cup etc, is to get a more discrete scale. Something like this. Then when your by yourself you can measure how much your school's plates and bowls weigh to be able to deduct that from the total in the future. I know it might not help if your trying to measure each ingredient on it's own and you've already made yourself a mixed plate, but say you get a bowl of broccoli or a plate full of chicken, it could be helpful.

u/youknowdamnright · 3 pointsr/Sourdough

if you are going by volume, i would do 2x the amount of flour (unpacked). that should be reasonably close. I would highly recommend a kitchen scale though. It's not a must, but it's cheap and really helps ensure consistent results while you are first learning to bake bread. There are so many variables that affect the outcome its nice to remove a major one.

yeah, thats way too much starter. you don't want the yeast competing for food so you want to keep the population size down. Just an estimate but, I typically have around 1cup of starter when it's first fed and stirred down. It expands to about 2 cups

What I personally recommend is buying CBD Isolate and making the juice yourself. That's what I am doing for my lower back and neck pain.

I bought the Isolate with GSC terpenes which gave it a nice earthy flavour, though I can't say if added anything for pain relieve.

If you want to know how to make it here goes...

Ingredients:

  • Propylene glycol (e-liquid base)
  • Isolate (contains CBD)
  • Tap water (for heating)

    Equipment:

  • Dropper bottle of choice (storing liquid)
  • Sauce pan (holding water and bottle for dissolving isolate)
  • Scales (used for weighing PG and Isolate)
  • Pipette (getting the PG into the bottle)

(Links are just there to show what I used)

NOTES: The isolate is not water soluble so using VG isn't recommended as the dissolved isolate can crystallise in the liquid due to the water content in the VG; PG doesn't have this issue. PG however, is know to give a throat hit, but from my usage I haven't found this to be an issue.

To work out the the amount of PG and CBD first deiced how much CBD per ml you would like. I wanted around 15mg per ml which I would say is good for me. The recommended strength seems to be around 13.5 – 20mg/mL. Then you just multiple the CBD/ml by the amount of liquid you want to make. So for 15mg/ml @ 30ml you would do 15×30 to get 450mg of isolate.

DON'T use an amber bottle if possible - it's a pain to see the isolate when water is on the bottle as it goes very dark.

    Instructions:

  1. Prepare the solution
    1. Weigh out PG (1.04g = 1g) using pipette straight into the bottle.
    2. Weigh out the Isolate and put into the PG.

I did this on some foil that was folded into a cross so I could poor the isolate directly into the bottle. You could also use I funnel, but i only had large ones to hand that wouldn't fit the neck of the bottle.
  2. Get some water in the pan and bring it to a simmer but not to hot (just enough so you can just hold your finger in the water). Ideally it should cover the level of liquid in the bottle, but not submerge the whole bottle.
  3. When the water is simmering turn the heat of and place the bottle in the water. I left it for 10 minutes and then shook the bottle to help break the big bits down (not as necessary for isolate without turpentines.
  4. After 10 minutes, the water had cooled slightly, so I put the hit back on until it was back to a simmer. I then left it for another 10 minutes. This process should be repeated until all the Isolate has visible dissolved. I think it took me 3 or 4 for it to fully dissolve.

    Vaping

I would recommend a RTA or RDTA since the liquid can gunk up the coils at a reasonable rate, so making you own is ideal to get around this. I am vaping on the following coils:

  • 24AWG Kanthal A1, 11 wraps, 3.0mm (ID) Single coil @ 1.00-ohm 35W.

I vape this 2-3 times a day depending on the pain, and it works a treat.

Brewista is also a solid choice https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3U7RKH/

u/MikeTheBlueCow · 3 pointsr/Coffee

What's your budget? That's going to make a difference in what gets recommended. If you can only spend $100 vs $500 there are going to be some compromises that you'll have to make, especially when it comes to the grinder.

Scale:

  • This basic scale does not include a timer, but you could just use your phone or something https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004C3CAB8

  • This scale comes with a timer and some advanced features https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3U7RKH

  • The Acaia scales are the top-notch pro-level deal which don't really add much compared to the Brewista scale, but people like them. https://www.amazon.com/s/ie=UTF8&search-alias=aps&field-keywords=Acaia

    Burr Grinder:

  • Most basic hand grinder that will give you the least amount of problems for the price: https://www.amazon.com/Hario-Skerton-Coffee-Grinder-Black/dp/B01MXJI90S

  • Jump on up to the AerGrind, Feld2, Lido, Helor 101, Kinu M47, Commandante... these hand grinders are top-notch and a great value, giving the best quality grind until you hit the $500-600 price.

  • If you want to go electric, don't get anything less than the Encore which you can get refurb for $100. It won't be as good of a grind as the better hand grinders, but it's a great grinder for the price.

    Pour over cone:

  • I really can't recommend anything other than the V60. I don't see an advantage to the Wave or Chemex. They all make the same quality level of coffee, but the Wave filters can be annoying, the Chemex filters are extra thick and you may not care for it, and both Wave and Chemex are more expensive. Get the $5 plastic V60-02 and some white filters for $10 and you're set. Or you can get a fancier glass or metal one if you want. Get a server/carafe if you plan on making that much coffee but it can just sit on a mug. If you want to try the Chemex filters, they fit in the V60-02 or V60-03. If you want to try cloth or metal filters, there are options that fit in the V60's.

    Gooseneck Kettle

  • Bonavita Variable Temp is perfectly fine but not amazing quality; mine has lasted a couple years just fine but I can't use my well water in it because it rusts it due to high sodium levels... also it tends to heat the water too much if I don't have at least a pint in it (I often don't). It's not too annoying though, just be aware it's not perfect but is good for the price https://www.amazon.com/Bonavita-BV382510V-Variable-Temperature-Gooseneck/dp/B005YR0F40

  • The Oxo kettle would be the competitor at that price, which I haven't used but it's worth looking at reviews for it https://www.amazon.com/OXO-Adjustable-Temperature-Electric-Pour-Over/dp/B074KHPS7F/

  • For a cheaper kettle option you'd have to go stovetop. Hario Buono is a good one for that.

  • A desirable kettle if you can afford it is the Fellow Stagg EKG.

Prioritize the grinder and make that the most expensive part of your setup. You can easily deal with a $10 scale, $5 pour over cone, $35 kettle, but a grinder that is $25 vs $50 vs $150 will make a huge difference in not just the taste quality of your coffee but the more expensive grinders will also reduce your frustration level by giving you less fines and more even grinds so it will be easier to hit the brew times, taste notes, and reduce the bitterness.

So the Emsa Perfect Beaker doesn't count? Because I love mine.

The [Oxo angled measuing cups] (http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Grips-3-Piece-Angled-Measuring/dp/B0000CCY1Y/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1404230464&sr=1-3&keywords=measuring+cup) aren't bad either, but I'm much on the side of the beaker.

For other things, especially really viscous stuff like peanut butter or honey though, you can't beat the [adjustable measuring cups] (http://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Cup-Two-Adjustable-Measuring/dp/B000I21N7O/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1404230554&sr=1-3&keywords=measuring+cup+plunger). Except for the fact that none of them seem to have a good solution for not having the measurements wipe off other than be really freaking careful what you use it with.

For any UK guys I bought this scale for £11 at the start of the new year. Its good quality and looks pretty slick as well.

Combining that with MyFitnessPal was serious surprising as it showed just how badly I was off in terms of eyeballing healthy portion sizes.

For example I would eyeball about 200-300g of chips in a 'normal' portion size which is about 600-900 calories! I now weigh 100g of chips which is still 300 calories but it looks less than a handful. The amount of chips look so small that my housemates laugh at my portion sizes :( but I know I am hitting my daily carlories so its all good!

Don't know the size of your studio, but IKEA sells several nice islands to fit many budgets and space constraints. A good quality kitchen doesn't really need that much - I like the nesting bowl/measuring cup, but if you don't like plastic, I bought [these] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000VLCEW/ref=pd_aw_sims_6?pi=SL500_SS115) and love them. Regarding your wall mount situation, usually that's about tenants damaging the walls. If you know what you're doing and can patch a hole well (also, how often does your landlord swing by), you could be fit from a knife rack and/or [utensil rack] (http://m.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/art/50072645/). Might be worthwhile to talk to your landlord and suggest splitting some of that cost if you agree to do the labour and keep the improvements in the apartment. That's what we did and they were fine.

I'm in a similar boat as you with the full control of my food.

I plan and weigh almost everything (I'm far too lazy to weigh my oats, so I just use a measuring scoop and go "Eh, that's about 2 servings"). I use the weights on containers to determine serving sizes (IE: A tub of Fage 0% greek yogurt SAYS it has 2 servings, but it really has closer to 2.25-2.5. So when I put it in I put in 2.5). I tend to plan a week's meals and I get creative as I go on. The first 2 weeks back, I had balsamic chicken every night but friday. Today I'm going shopping and picking up some lean beef and turkey and making meatballs, just to spice things up. My breakfast and lunch are always the same(greek yogurt, oatmeal, protein shake), but I like these things so until I get sick of them, I'm sticking to it for simplicity.

I tend to wake up in the morning, and put in my planned meals for the day and see where that will get me calorically and macronutrient-wise. Usually this puts me at around 1700 calories. I'm cutting, so I tend to stick to 2k-2.2k cal a day, so this gives me 3-500 calories of "wiggle room" to eat other things when I want. Usually a wholesome snack, or an extra bowl of oatmeal.

To track, I use loseit because that's what I used when I was losing weight and it's intuitive for me. I do not ever input my exercise, I only input food. I have it track my macros and the percentages and I figure out how I need to adjust it (I'm a very numbers oriented guy). I measure using http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CM6TVI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00. I originally had an Oxo scale, but gave that to my family as my brothers LOVE weighing their food. I like this one more because the Oxo scale had a 5 pound limit. This lets me put things like bowls or a shaker bottle on it filled with liquid and not worry about going over.

Very cool, man! thanks for doing this! (and mods, I can do one of these too. Just let me know.)

Questions:

  • How do you like that pH meter? I know /u/sufferingcubsfan just got the Omega pH-7011, and I was considering that, too. I was afraid the one you have doesn't have the accuracy. What are your thoughts on it?

  • Have you ever used an immersion chiller? Or went straight into counterflow? Just curious how much better that works, etc. I've been using immersion my whole brewing career, and honestly haven't even looked into plate/CFC much. Usually I just get the hose hooked up, run it into my sump pump drain, and let it run for like 20 minutes while I clean up/sanitize my fermenter etc.

  • What are all the kegs for in the pics? Do you use them as keggles or anything? Or is it just a table?

  • Have you thought about springing for BeerSmith? It has a nice calendar feature that I use to schedule and keep track of brews, and it helps me document my recipes, etc.

  • You still don't have a scale for grains? They're super cheap.. I'm sure your GF would let you invest in that yet this year :)

  • How the f** do you get brew day done so damn fast!? Maybe I'm just not as focused, but even with 60min mash and 60min boil, I don't think I've ever* broken like 5 or 6 hours... I do piddlefart around a lot, but still... My process is very similar.

  • I was thinking of doing starters with the wort and pitching the next day. I do like that idea. Let it sit in the fermenter and settle down to temp... I assume you oxygenate the next day, too? Just before you pitch? Or do you oxygenate right away after brewing?

    And some general comments:

  • First of all, I'm from WI, so I definitely hear you with New Glarus! Their fruit sours are fantastic, but everything they brew is spot on. Spotted Cow is WI's most popular craft for a reason.

  • I also like Hopalicious, but my fav IPA is still Lupulin Maximus from O'Sos. Fantastic, and you can probably get that nearby there!

I'd recommend buying a scale for sure. I got a $15 one off Amazon (I think this one) that isn't really a big kitchen scale, just a cheap scale that goes to .1 grams and it has worked fine for years if you just wipe it down and take care of it.

Just a note, you can also use the folding method if you wanted to and not do any kneading since it can be tough to get the kneading level correct. I tried to basically get a process that took a bit of time overall, but wasn't very involved (aka I'm around the house, but don't want to spend an hour straight making bread). You do need a few hours for folding (you can YouTube this, it's basically just folding the dough on top of itself a few times), but you're basically just folding it a few times every 30-45 minutes, so it's not like you are engaged with it for the whole time. I'm not gonna bother to include my recipe because it's usually for a really big loaf and it's pretty generic, but maybe this process will interest you since it's pretty straightforward:

Dissolve starter in warm water, add flour and mix. Autolyse 30 min. After 30 minutes, add salt, pinch and fold to incorporate. Stretch and fold every 30-45 min for 3-4 hours. Flour a surface and put the dough on it, pre-shape and bench rest for 10-30 minutes (or whatever, sometimes I don't even rest it and it still works). Put it in a banneton or a bowl and put the whole thing in the fridge for 18-24 hours (you can do 48 or probably 72 if you wanted; as you approach 72 it starts to lose air and kind of collapses).

Preheat dutch oven to 500F (this normally takes longer than the standard oven pre-heat cylce; I let it warm in there at least 30 mins), take dough directly from fridge, slowly turn onto parchment paper (don't plop it down, I push the parchment against the banneton and kind of just turn it upside down slowly) score dough place in covered dutch oven. Turn heat down to 455F, bake covered for 30 minutes then take the lid off and bake another 10-20 minutes depending on how dark you want it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness/search?q=flair%3Arecipe&sort=new&restrict_sr=on Recipe thread monthly. They tend to be a good place to look for food related ideas.

For advice: r/loseit is an excellent resource.

For raw data, SailRabbit: BMR, TDEE and BMI Calculator is a helpful estimator. There is also a spreadsheet that you can use that will help you make better adaptations to your caloric goals. We all generally recommend MyFitnessPal or any other similar caloric tracker and a food scale (Amazon, $15).

I'd shoot for between 2000-2100 calories/day. From there you might also enjoy r/1500isplenty. For macros, I would generally say to lean more towards proteins so you can preserve those god-level calves you've been growing. Maybe a 30p/30f/40c split? Play with it and see what works best for you.

For a hobbyist making sufficiently large batches, any scale accurate to within 1g and with enough maximum capacity for what you are doing will suffice. I use https://www.amazon.com/1byone-Digital-Kitchen-Precise-Multifunction/dp/B018LXSPEA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506035361&sr=8-1&keywords=kitchen+scale+1byone

You would probably want a better scale than that for business use.

u/deeeeeexm · 2 pointsr/kratom

I was debating between two scales, this and this but figured the latter had better reviews. I did see that thread, and it did help reinforce my decision. Plus, I can probably use it to meal prep in the future since I can weigh up to 500g vs 100g.

Nice! I debated on buying the bigger sample pack, but figured the small one was safer in case I didn't actually like kratom. It's too bad that you have to pay for shipping, but I got my package very quickly, so I can't complain.

Really solid product. It's scary accurate to the point where my dose weight will fluctuate seemingly by random until I realized it was my breathing that was making the weight fluctuate.

Only downside is that the plastic case it comes with doesn't even fit. I broke it accidentally just trying to remove it. Doesn't matter though, it's pretty durable and I'm very satisfied with it.

I use Vapable, they were recommended by a guy I work with.

I use e-liquid-recipes.com for recipes, because you have people rating them you have a very low risk you'll end up with a bad recipe.

I definitely recommend measuring by weight, not volume - it's more accurate if you have good scales. You can buy really good super-accurate scales for under a tenner - here's an example. Just be prepared for your Amazon recommendations to be full of little plastic bags and herb grinders for a while.

u/Dr_Dagger · 2 pointsr/tea

Hey there!

Excited is good! For most of those teas, especially the Taiwanese oolongs I'd personally suggest gongfu style, though with the sample packs you should have enough tea that you could try it both western with your current teapot and gongfu. Regardless of which you are using, I'd definitely recommend getting a small set of scales if you don't have some already since it's easier than using teaspoon measurements. Crimson Lotus did a gaiwan video that explains the basics. You can also drink directly from a gaiwan like in this video, though that doesn't work for all teas. Gaiwans are pretty easy to come by on amazon/tea sites, I'd stick with <100 ml for a first one, unless you plan to share tea with others.

"Season to taste" is often hard at the beginning while you're learning but honestly - it's always hard for some people. You might be like most people who learn by trial and error or you might be like my best friend who just has a very limited sense of taste. (I'm not exaggerating. He can describe a sauce as "red" but can't tell if it's tomato-based.) If, after trying for a while, you find you're one of those few who continue to struggle, then look for "staple" dishes you enjoy eating and take specific notes about the seasoning levels everyone likes so you can just replicate the measurements down the road.

With things like salt and pepper, remember that you can always add more later so you don't have to figure out the perfect amount while cooking the larger portion; folks can just season their own servings if needed.

These are kind of cute and give informal measurements of "A dash = 1/8 tsp, a pinch= 1/16 tsp and a smidgen = 1/32 tsp." Maybe you use measurements like this as a "cheat sheet" until you figure out what tastes good to you.

u/tourmaline82 · 1 pointr/Cooking

I'm not going to say the obvious like knives, basic cookware and large kitchen appliances. If you're in this subreddit, chances are you already have those. Instead I will tell you about my not so obvious but much beloved kitchen gadgets.

A set of nesting tempered glass bowls. Mix ingredients in the big or medium ones, mise en place with the little ones, serve things like tossed salad or mashed potatoes also in the big ones. If you need a bowl, chances are one of these will be the right size, and because they're glass they don't hold on to odors or stains like plastic does.

The Wonder Cup! If your recipe doesn't have weight measurements and you're measuring something like molasses or peanut butter that would be a pain in the ass to get out of a normal measuring cup, Wonder Cup will be your salvation. I would not want to make peanut butter cookies or BBQ sauce (I like molasses in mine) without my Wonder Cup.

Following the same theme, my Mini Measure, aka that measuring shot glass thing. Measures in mL, fluid oz, teaspoons and tablespoons. Sure, you can use a measuring spoon, but I'm kind of clumsy and tend to spill those. Lot less spillage with my little shot glass.

Silpats. I bake a lot of cookies. Grease flat out doesn't work as well and I have almost lost several sheets of raw cookies due to parchment paper slipping and sliding around. Silpats stay where I fucking put them.

Wire baking racks, I prefer the kind that have a grid of wires as opposed to wires only going one way. Thin cookies have a tendency to slide through the latter.

A KitchenAid stand mixer, I could not make meringue or lebkuchen (German spice cookies, the dough is really stiff) without it.

Probe thermometer, I have a Lavatools one and it works quite well. Is the lamb done? I dunno, poke it and find out!

Digital kitchen scale that easily switches to different units. I freaking love European recipes, weighing my ingredients is so much faster and easier than messing with five different measuring tools.

You can cut butter into flour with knives or a fork, but it's easier with a pastry cutter. Several of my go-to baking recipes require cutting butter into flour, if you don't bake much you probably won't use it as much. Also excellent for making egg salad.

Garlic press! Given half a chance I would put garlic in every savory dish I make. I adore garlic.

If you're worried about weight, I would highly recommend buying a food scale! Not for veggies, but for your guinea. One like this with a little dish that fits on top, so your little one can sit more comfortably.

I try to weigh my boys once a week (like after cage cleaning time so it's become part of the routine) so I can monitor their health. Weight is one of the main indicators of guinea pig health that you can reliably measure without a vet. Also it was really fun charting out how much they grew over time when I first got them! After a few times weighing your guinea, you'll have an idea of what a healthy weight should be, regardless of hair length.

Edit: I forgot to mention that a scale is an especially helpful tool if you think you'll be moving a few times in the next few years. I move my guys maybe 4 times a year because I go to college an hour away from my parents' house, and at first it was stressful for those little potatoes. They lost weight for the first few days each move, but slowly regained it once they settled in (they're pros at moving house now though). I'm not sure how long it's been since you moved to your parents' house but it may have contributed to her weight loss.

I really like these. The magnet's nice for keeping them together in the drawer, but the real appeal is the two ends in different shapes. So if I'm baking and need a tablespoon of vanilla and a tablespoon of cinnamon, I can fit the skinny end into the cinnamon jar and have the fat end for vanilla. Wet and dry without having to wash in between. And Amazon says I ordered them five years ago, so good longevity with heavy use.

Good advice. I have the AWS 100 and a buddy has the 200 model. I think the 200 is a little easier to work with due to it allowing a bit more weight before it can't handle it. We use it for hops measurement too....not that you have to be too precise with that.

u/timelessdrifter · 1 pointr/kratom

I bought dumb... I needed a millegram scale that would measure down to the thousandth of a mg for meds, so the first one I got was the AWS gemini-20 and that's been the scale I use 99.9% of the time. Problem is, it only has a 20g capacity, so trades/donations were ridiculously complicated. However, it's an extremely accurate scale, comes with calibration weights and the case has a magnetic flap and protects the scale very well. It's a complete system.

Then, I got the AWS ACP-200 and that better for trades and donations, and I thought it would adequate. But no... Most of what I buy is 250g minimum (I told you I bought stupid). This one, however, requires that you buy a separate calibration weight. And they're not cheap.

Which brings me to the AWS-600-BLK with a capacity of 600g. Of course, I also buy kilos, but I haven't addressed that one yet :-) This one requires a calibration weight also, which really offsets the relatively inexpensive buy-in for the scale.

If I was smart, I would have purchased the 20g and a 1000g version and been done with it. One suggestion I would make is to NOT buy the calibration weights that they list as accessories for the scales and go with this guy instead. It's a 1000g calibration weight set that will give you just about any weight imaginable for only $18.

This might sound weird, but if you eat out a lot and want to keep an accurate log of your intake, having meals at fast food places might work for you. They tend to have comprehensive nutritional information either right on the menu (which is required by law at least in the US and Canada) or you can look it up on their web site. You might not be able to weigh the food yourself, but you can at least trust that the big chains have done their due diligence to comply with the law.

Nope, but you can use it to see how many calories are in each ingredient in a meal you make is/how much you are consuming. (I weigh my avocados out to get a rough idea, as well as note the type so I can find accurate results on MyFittnesspal). You will need to do some math after, but it works well for me. Also, protein shakes will be required to reach that goal, so I suggest investing in a type of shake that you think tastes good and doesn't make you fart yourself to death.
EDIT: Here is a good, cheap scale that I use

u/DisastrousExplorer · 1 pointr/AppalachianTrail

I would weigh everything as most of the time manufacturer listed weights are inaccurate or misleading.

A simple digital scale like this works just fine.

If you weren’t already planning on it, use www.lighterpack.com to categorize and list your gear. Then you can post it to r/ultralight for a shakedown.

Update (fixed false-positive bug):

I believe you searched ON amazon before posting your link, so you posted a full on a link like this?

>https://www.amazon.com/WAOAW-Digital-Stainless-Jewelry-Resolution/dp/B01B4KX6JQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&sr=1-1&keywords=WAOAW+500g%2F0.01g+Digital+Pocket+Stainless+Jewelry+%26+Kitchen+food+Scale%2C+Lab+Weight%2C+0.001oz+Resolution

I think, due to the "/ref" part of the link, /u/AutoModerator decided that it was a referral link, which it obviously isnt...I've believe I've adjusted /u/AutoModerator to properly, recognize the links; since I posted this (I'm hoping) it doesn't tag it as a referral link again.

Just so you know, in the future you only need to post the following for an amazon link. The rest is for amazons search/suggestion information in url/referer form - so it can recommend you future products based on your session and such.

As you can see, that link loads the same page....but I've fixed it anyway, so it's somewhat irrelevant. But it does make for a shorter link :P

It's this one.

Edited for neatness.

This, far more accurate and easier than using a syringe.

I brew extremely gently. At the extreme end I will put 15g to 200ml but normally sit in the 7-12g range. So imagining a coffee syrup like yours both disgusts and intrigues me.

Definitely going to experiment with it tomorrow!

I also have a low range, sensitive, cheep scale (link below, I highly recommend it if you are interested) so weighing right on the scale without fear is tempting as all hell.

I’m close to ordering a Prismo

I have one of these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Scales/Ascher-Portable-Digital-Back-lit-Weighing/B01FQHE25U - 200g, 0.01g precision, can be calibrated (but doesn't come with calibration weights) and has served me well so far

This one is perfectly small enough (I have it), just wait for it to be on sale so you can nab it aorund 70 :) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brewista-BSSRB2-Smart-Scale-II/dp/B01N3U7RKH

I have this one that I've been using for a few years. I had one from Walmart before that I hated because in order to switch between measurements (oz -g-ml) you had to pick the dang unit up and press a bottom on the bottom! So stupid and frustrating. Therefore, if anything make sure whatever choice you make has the switch and tare buttons easy on top like the one I linked.

Sam gave a great review on July 1st, 2019:

>I like to grab weeds from my lawn and weight it... It makes me feel good..

(review on the Amazon page here)

I have both of those linked below, no problems with either of them. The LB-501 gets used the most and I know a lot of people on this sub use it as well. I could see a triple beam with a 0.01g resolution being a little more work and taking longer. Not to mention more expensive.
