As a fellow owner of the Zelda 3DS XL, I highly recommend that you get the Hori TPU case and some screen protectors to go along with it.

No matter how careful you are, your 3DS is bound to take some degree of damage eventually. This case does an excellent job of protecting it from normal bumps and wear (it won't do much if you drop it, but that hopefully wouldn't happen) while still showing off the design. Screen protectors are just good to have.

An additional note: I also suggest getting some sort of cleaning cloth to put between the two screens when you close the system: the bezel on the touch screen will scratch up the top screen.

Micro USB has existed for a while:

http://www.amazon.com/GAMETECH-micro-B-Power-Adapter-Charger-Converter/dp/B00FYGAU4G

I'd worry something like that would put too much pressure on the charger port, though.

u/newbzoors · 16 pointsr/smashbros

This becomes Amazon's best selling product.

u/IBNobody · 16 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

The Butterfox Switch Carry-All is available from Amazon. It was $24.99.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06ZZWV6YX/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0

I was looking for something that was small enough to tote around my switch and extra accessories like the Joy-Con grip and my giant 26Ah battery.

I would give it 5 stars and would buy it again.

u/Guy_Buttersnaps · 14 pointsr/gamernews

Nyko makes pretty much the same thing and sells it for 80% less.

EDIT: Turns out you can buy them for even cheaper than that. Amazon has it for $13.25+shipping, and BestBuy has it for $14.99 with free shipping.

u/cr8ivecodesmith · 14 pointsr/3DS

I didn't know about the matching theme. I just bought it. Looks good, here.

The charm is actually a micro-usb adapter for the charging port. Got it from Amazon for $9. Link here.

Hey everyone!

Shameless plug time... Here's where you can get these ordered, if you're looking.

  • DK Display (yes, expandable!) - Amazon
  • Musical Master Sword Stylus and Display - Amazon
  • Spinning Fire Bar Display - Amazon

And with all of these displays, you'll be able to get tons of info from pdp.com, which will also have the displays on sale when they're ready.

Thanks for the positive feedback, you've made a happy team here. :)

    Thanks Again,
    Jake from PDP

Well I've got great news for you. If you are happy with a fatter console, you can get a larger battery for very cheap like this one for the 3Ds. This will give you well over 12 hours battery, from many reports.

I am sure there will be similar solutions for the Switch too.

Your apparent reason for not owning a 3ds is easily and cheaply solvable!

u/CoryBoehm · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think the Hori LAN Adapter is seriously underrated. Granted it shouldn't be needed if the Switch had decent WiFi but the number of those issues popping up and how easily the LAN Adapter solves them makes it an essential item.

The Butterfox Switch Carry-All also seems to be sliding a bit under the radar. It is great if you want something to pack more than just a Switch and a couple games into a carry case. I have my on ear headphones, spare chargers and even a battery grip in it. I can also fit in a Pro Controller if I wanted. I don't ever take the dock with me though.

u/Onodorable · 9 pointsr/pokemon

If it doesn't, Hori has a pretty awesome golden Pikachu case coming up that looks amazing on a black 3DS.

u/FoxxyRin · 8 pointsr/nintendo

I snagged the Ocarina of Time one myself, but Best Buy is SO slow about shipping. They told me it would arrive on release day (2nd), but that was a lie. It's still sitting as "label created" according to UPS. I'm super excited about it though. I've already got this nifty stand as an early Christmas gift just for this amiibo. I really want to get a triforce stand of some sort for my three SSB LoZ amiibo. Still not sure what I want to do with Wolf Link, though. (Zelda amiibo are the only ones I collect, lol, and I don't even collect all of them.)

They already bet you to it. Nintendo released the 3DS Circle Pad Pro.

u/Ness_Success · 6 pointsr/3DS

This happened to my ambassador program 3ds aswell. Here's what I did. I ordered these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00C1XYUSM?pc_redir=1409138447&robot_redir=1

And I put a piece of two way tape on the inside of it and stuck it in place of the analog. The tape is secure, it won't come off unless you want it to, and this way you can change the analog to any one you want. Here's some pics: http://imgur.com/a/V0Q7Z

The only problem is the analog is a tiny bit taller than the original, so there will be a very small gap when closing the 3ds. If this bothers you, the circle pad grip also comes with a keychain you can attach to the 3ds that holds 2 of the circle pad grips. So you can just place them on that and attach it when you play it. Hope this helps!

u/Crowalho · 6 pointsr/3dshacks
u/Japsy · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'd recommend the Butterfox case instead of the licensed one, since it's more versatile, aesthetically pleasing, cheaper and fits more stuff. (i.e. ac adapter). If you want this one than make sure it's the 9 cartridge one, since that's the newest version. Also a 128 SD card class 10 will most likely go on sale this coming black friday/cyber monday.

u/AvenueM · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think I've the one you're looking for: butterfox V3. I use this when I don't need to bring my dock. This butterfox case can fit 1 extra pair of joy-con and a AC adapter/or Powerbank

u/FlyDungas · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

also you've got this if you wanna upgrade without replacing the original: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZWV6YX/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_1_w

The only things that the IR port could be used for are built in to the body the New3DS(XL) systems.

The Circle Pad Pro for Regular Size 3DS and XL size 3DS are not required for the N3DS(XL) as not only are the new systems the wrong size, but the CPP's features are all built in standard equipment for the New2/3DS systems! That's the two extra shoulder buttons on the back (ZL, ZR) and the gray rubber C-stick nub above your ABXY buttons.

The Amiibo Reader (AKA: Nintendo NFC Reader/Writer) is also already built in as any Amiibo can be gently placed on your bottom touchscreen when prompted to activate or save your Amiibo figurines' progress.

Since the 3DS is in its twilight life cycle (we're sadly in the last year closeout to obsolete status) to make way for the Nintendo Switch fully taking over, I highly doubt that a new accessory is going to be released for the Nintendo 3DS that will utilize the IR port. As long as everything else works okay on the system, I don't see a reason to send it in to Nintendo Repair.

As long as this means the little black oval window on the back of the system next to the charging port, that is the one that is not used.

However, like pawlik23 asked, if it's the little dot next to the inside camera on the top shell, that is an IR light emitter. That IR LED is used to shine IR light on your face in poor lighting conditions if you want to use 3D in low, no, or poor light conditions as cameras can see IR, but our eyes can't. That allows the Stable 3D to work in nearly all situations. If that is what is scratched, your Stable 3D may not work correctly when your face is dark or if a light source is behind your face, and that may be worth sending in to Nintendo.

u/sboles66 · 5 pointsr/smashbros

If you plan on getting a 3DS XL, I have to recommend this.
It makes your 3DSXL FEEL like a controller.
And if it's any kind of 3DS, reguklar, 2ds or Xl I reccomend this it makes it feel better, and it;s easier to do tilts.

u/LoLDrifter · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Yeah good find, I plan to wait till later. I just like when products have reviews on amazon.

I have been looking for a plastic case like this, but hoping for one that holds more games or is at least sold separately.
Like this 3ds cart case hopefully with a legit design on it, =)

I mean there's this. That should be a pretty good alternative.

u/Admiral_Butter_Crust · 4 pointsr/3DS

Unfortunately, no dock. The bigger battery means I can't use the OEM dock so I'd have to track down one of these or 3D print something. The battery can be charged regularly while installed in the console though so it's not all bad.

Actually, I have an idea now. I can likely design and print a dock that will accommodate the extra girth. I'll probably base my design off of the existing OEM dock to make it easier to build.

We'll see =)

edit: Alternatively, a N3DS style dock would be pretty damn easy to make, especially since it already exists and would need very little modification to work.

u/SuperBattleFranky37 · 4 pointsr/3DS

you could try these

u/Taedirk · 4 pointsr/3DS

MicroUSB to 3DS adapter - latch it onto the charm catch on the back of the 3ds and I no longer have to worry about a completely separate cable.

u/neoslith · 4 pointsr/3DS

I like this one more

I have a blue one and a Club Nintendo one.

u/bigylittle · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch
  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

Links for all the items I got for your reference:
    Screen Protector
    Memory Card
    Case
    Stand
    Battery Pack
    Pro Controller
    Nyko Dock

u/raylinth · 3 pointsr/3DS

Simple game carrying case and USB charger are pretty sweet.

u/Arthurbodhi · 3 pointsr/3DS

I prefer physical cartridges so I use one of this.

u/Kazimeras · 3 pointsr/3DS

If it's the battery that is bugging you the most, you may want to look into a Nyko Power Pak. It will add a bit of bulk to your 3DS but will greatly improve the batter life.

u/Warriorccc0 · 3 pointsr/3DS
  1. There are currently no Gameboy Advance games on the eshop, although they have given out Gameboy Advance games through the Ambassador Program, so they could potentially add some later on.

  2. If it gets stolen you might be able to, check this post, otherwise probably not due to games being tied to the hardware.

  3. The 3DS battery lasts about 3-5 hours, while the XL lasts about 3.5 to 6.5 hours. It is possible to buy a battery pack to expand it if you wish though (such as this or this for example).

u/WonkyOne · 3 pointsr/breakingmom

Consider something like this, that you can hang within your own reach. (NOT his reach, or it will be emptied in the first minute of the trip!)

http://www.amazon.ca/Over-Door-Clear-Organizer-Storage/dp/B000IXOH7G

Fill each pocket with a different activity/toys/snacks. Go to the dollar store and stock up on things like sticker books, crayons/pad of paper, mini cars, bouncy balls, anything that might keep his interest for awhile that doesn't require your supervision.

I recently did a 12 hour flight with my 2.5 year old (and 4 month old daughter). The very best thing I brought with me (other than the iPad) in terms of entertaining him was a ziplock bag full of miniature cars each individually wrapped in painters tape. Yes it was a bitch to clean up after (lots of little scraps of painters tape stuck to everything in arms reach) but every one of them brought happy "oooooh" "wow" "woah" comments, and bought about ~10 minutes of unwrapping time, plus at least 20 minutes of happily rolling them around on things. So yeah, painters tape!

Also, get external battery chargers for the tablet and the 3ds. (Like this one for example. Http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Power-Pak-3DS-Nintendo/dp/B004SJA7L6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361147770&sr=8-1&keywords=battery+pack+3ds

Good luck. It won't be easy but you can do it!

u/Nokel · 3 pointsr/3DS

Buy this. I use it on my O3DS and the battery life is really great.

u/BananaVoid · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

L targeting is all you really need in most situations and its faster than panning the camera to the monster anyways. The c stick can be used for more fine adjustments but I hardly use mine in most fights. However there is an option to buy a Circle pad pro extension that you can use to control the camera. I used one for MH3U before I got my new 3ds and it works great!

u/rainbowmushr00m · 3 pointsr/3DS

The Japanese one is almost always in stock. It's the one I have and it got to me within a few days after ordering. The only difference is that it says "3DS LL" instead of "3DS XL" on the front.

u/Votius · 3 pointsr/3DS

Hori TPU case for sure, they are great and wont scratch up the 3ds like other cases. This is the hori tpu case i have, the previously linked case is a harder tpu plastic.

skins you can get lots of places, depends on what you like. I have the zelda 3ds XL and it looks great through the clear hori tpu case, decals/ skins also come though great.

as for flash carts on the 3ds, read this thread from this subreddit

edit for cases

u/boobers3 · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

MHGen is the easier game, MH4U is the better game. That being said MHGen is still a really good game and fun. If MH4U were 8/10 MHG would be like 7/10.

MH4U is by far more difficult than MHG tho, MH4U will kick you in the teeth and call you a little bitch when you get to end game Guild Quest level 140.

The ingame story isn't that important, your hunt and journey through progression at the story. If you get Monster Hunter on your 3ds XL make sure to buy a circle pad pro, they aren't that expensive but it's kind of important to have.

u/GameDevC · 3 pointsr/Games
u/david2278 · 3 pointsr/3DS

I'm assuming your 3dsxl is not a new 3ds xl. Try and find a circle pad pro XL (make sure it's an XL size and NOT the regular circle pad pro). If your hands are big you'll love this thing. It's great for monster hunter. Here's one on amazon. I didn't check for the lowest price I just found one as fast as I could so you could see it. http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Circle-Pad-Pro-Sonstiges/dp/B00B3TXJ14

Google "circle pad pro games" and you'll get more info on it.

u/Heikow · 3 pointsr/3DS
u/Nyaspurr · 3 pointsr/3DS

I don't believe there's a replacement part for that, but you could always buy a circle pad grip http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00C1XYUSM?pc_redir=1409138447&robot_redir=1

Or you can just gut out a broken unit or circle pad pro for the part.

u/Level44EnderShaman · 3 pointsr/3DS

There's a virtual ton of popular cheap USB-to-DSi/3DS cables you can buy off of Amazon from numerous sellers and manufacturers. They tend to be inexpensive, too.

Personally, I recommend the GAMETECH Micro-B to DSi/3DS adapter plug over such cables, myself. It's a small converter adapter you can buy that plugs into the male end of any Micro-B USB cable to convert it for use with the system. It hax a small loop on the end to thread a loop through to attach it to your keychains or whatever you might carry your USB powerbank or adapter with.

The average cost is $8 and some change on Amazon, and it works like a charm with every Micro-B USB cable I have in my house. Right now it's also got Prime shipping on it, and while it's ground shipping, it still gets to you within three days or so. I swear by this adapter.

u/HolidayBrick · 3 pointsr/3DS

I have a few different colors of these. They're good, but they are more expensive then they used to be.

u/Zaculus · 3 pointsr/3DS

I've been patiently waiting as well, but I came across this case. If the cases aren't added to CN by next month, I'm gonna purchase this. It ships from the UK and me being in the US, it is only $8.99 with no extra charges, just an FYI if you end up ordering

u/toodlebutts · 3 pointsr/3DS

The link provided there isn't a grip, it's a Circle Pad Pro for the original 3DS. You already have a C-Stick on the New 3DS, so it's pointless even if it did fit.

Either https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WU8EEAC/ (which I bought) or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OTEMTD4/ are considered the best ones. There are pros and cons to each.

The first one doesn't have a cartridge slot open to pull your carts in and out, meaning you have to take the grip off to change physical cartridge games. However, it's more comfortable to access the triggers than the second one.

The second one is generally the more popular one despite being more expensive. There's room to carry two extra games in the back stand, and isn't as hard to take off as the first grip. However, the positions of the "fake triggers" can be confusing and uncomfortable for when you do actually want to use the 3DS triggers.

u/Sages · 3 pointsr/pokemon

The 20% off newly released Games also works up to 2 weeks after the game's launch, you'll get the 20% discount whether you pre-order or buy within the first 14 days of it's release if you are an Amazon Prime member.

This promotion was added to compete with Best Buy Gamer's Club Unlocked which is the same exact discount (20%). If you can't afford or don't want Amazon Prime for a $99 a year, you can go to Best Buy. GCU is only $30 for two years.

Both BB and AZ also apply their discount to amiibo as well.

Also the comfort grip and the cyber grip are things I heard good things about. The last one might be Xl only btw...
Edit: Just found the hand grip as well, which seems to be a regular sized 3ds grip.
Edit 2: The Circle Pad Pro is the only thing I have expiernce with. It's great, but a little bulky. When you're lying in bed playing MH3U it'll get heavy eventually. But still, I'd recommend it.

u/Groadee · 2 pointsr/smashbros
u/Ziathon3 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Wow, you are totally right, I did not realize that. The only thing I could find was this but it is third party seller only. I looked on ebay too and didnt find much of anything either.

And I don't think the NEW 3DS XL grips will fit the old model as they are just different enough in exterior dimensions.

u/HighAsAKiteFlying · 2 pointsr/3DS

Ever thought about getting the Pull N Go Folio which holds 29 games? Or something like this which says it holds 22 for $4.

u/snorking · 2 pointsr/3DS

i have the standard 3DS, and yeah, ive never had any issues finding the sweet spot as far as the 3d slider goes. as long as im holding it properly, the 3d is pretty flawless with most games, so i rarely turn it off. there ARE some games though where it feels like they get too concerned with the 3D, and theres not really any rhyme or reason as to why one thing pops out so much farther than another. just so long as it looks sufficiently 3D, the devs seem happy. as for the bigger battery, i picked up this guy and its some of the best money ive ever spent. it makes the 3ds a little bit fatter, and a little bit heavier, but it actually makes it more comfortable to hold. it also feels a little bit rubbery so its easier to grip than the smooth plastic back the 3ds comes with. the only issue is it no longer fits into the circlepad pro, or the charging cradle, but its really easy to switch back to the old battery if i need to. if you've got a 3ds, pick up this battery. it pretty much completely changed my relationship with my 3ds. instead of constantly worrying about battery power, i hardly ever need to think about it beyond remembering to charge it every night. and i think they actually do make a charging cradle for the extended battery if you're feeling like Mr. Moneybags.

u/gauldrenth · 2 pointsr/3DS

Pretty much what I said above

  1. 3D off
  2. Brightness down(can be adjusted on the top left of home screen)
  3. Wi-Fi off. Your system is constantly checking for signals, updates, street passes, ect.
  4. Using headphones over built in speakers

If you follow that I imagine you could achieve the top rating of 8 hours. Other than that you can get a battery pack, but be aware that this voids your warranty and the one I listed has some negative reviews.
u/Admiral_obvious13 · 2 pointsr/3DS

Do you have the original 3DS? If so, don't spend $20.

I used the Power Pak, it had about twice the battery life and I got it for around $10 at a GameStop. Amazon has it listed for $14.99, but there is also this at $10 if you don't need the extra battery life or slight bulkiness of the Power Pak.

u/colecovizion · 2 pointsr/gamernews

That seems expensive compared to some other battery options out there. I just bought one made by Nyko on Amazon that claim 2x battery life. Because they were so cheap (~$13), I bought 2! Here is a link, they appear to be getting good reviews.

u/ohnoesmilk · 2 pointsr/gaming

http://www.amazon.com/Charge-Base-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B004SJFJUA

This double the battery life, or at least increases it a bit

u/LungALung · 2 pointsr/gaming

Have any of you had any experience with Nyko? Considering buying one of these to extend the 3DS battery life: http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-ChargeBase-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B004SJFJUA/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1301208096&sr=8-9

I remember it getting some love from a few websites claiming that it'll be double the battery life of the 3DS at the cost of increased bulk.

u/Whirlspell · 2 pointsr/3DS

I used the Nyko Charge Base when I had an original 3DS and I really liked it, especially with the charging dock. You can buy the battery by itself for half the price if you want.

This is what I use. If you would welcome some added weight and bulk to your normal 3DS, I'd go with this battery. I found the normal 3DS to be a bit small for my liking but the battery gave it the extra bulk needed for me to have a better grip. It also can last a solid week with a few hours of play each day without going into the red.

It seems to be on prime for $30 but there's someone selling it for $20.

u/Abezilla116 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Here ya go: http://www.amazon.com/5000mAh-Extended-Battery-Nintendo-CTR-001-MIN-CTR-001/dp/B005NJ2UEW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1341389309&sr=8-5&keywords=3Ds+battery

One of the reviews on there is mine. It actually puzzles me that more people aren't buying this awesome battery! I was also the first reviewer, I was looking at the "mugen power" battery for the 3Ds, which is pretty much a $50 version of this. I simply didn't have the money for one, so I found this on youtube. Nothing but people bad talking it and being overall pessimistic, so I found on on amazon after looking for a couple seconds and decided to take a gamble on it. Blew my mind. Generic or not, its good. I've had it for several months and at $20 there's not much of a downside. It doesn't come with a screw driver so you'll have to buy one, its a good investment though and they're pretty cheap too.

Edit: Holy shit, the Mugen power battery is actually about $100

u/Oobboua · 2 pointsr/3DS

I had a problem like this for my DS lite, and I had to get the battery replaced. Though, on the bright side, if you had to get your battery replaced, 3rd party sellers have already made batteries superior than the Nintendo ones.

u/Zaruz · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

While I'd love to have it on the Wii U instead, remember you can use a circle pad pro to give the 3DS dual analogs.

Main downside for me is that it's much harder to see what's happening on the smaller screen. Just got a Wii u a couple weeks ago, and I've improved so much just by having a bigger screen. Will end up with 4U regardless though

u/Sleeze1 · 2 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

It runs fine on the old 3ds. I have 300+ hours clocked on my old 3ds and have never had any issues really.

Sometimes the fps will drop when playing online, but its nothing too bad. The game is definately playable. One thing i would really suggest is picking up a Circle Pad Pro because the camera control can be a little bit sketchy without one.

It has a very useful lock-on feature that helps with camera control, but if you stick with the game and reach the endgame stuff, you're definately gonna want that extra control. It might also be worth DL'ing the demo from the nintendo shop if its still available. It showcases one of the easier hunts in the game, and a more difficult one.

If you do pick it up, come join us at /r/monsterhunter , everyone is super helpful to new players.

I bought the Skinomi Full Body Screen Protector for my 3DS. I read a lot of the reviews and heard mostly positive stuff. A very small number of people claimed that it could damage the 3DS, but from my experience, possible damage is not an issue. Although application was tedious because of a lack of a diagram, all of the panels applied evenly and without much issue. Now my entire 3DS is protected and has a nice light sheen to it.

If you just care about the screens, then there's also a Skinomi variant that just has the protectors for the screens. A lot of people like the HORI protectors too, although personally I can't say whether or not they are good. Hope this helps, and I hope you find what you are looking for.

u/branespload · 2 pointsr/3DS

After reading this sub, this seems to be the most recommended. I have a pair and once applied properly they're unnoticeable, but I recommend you look up youtube tutorials/read up before trying to apply them. It's a little trickier than advertised IMO.

http://www.amazon.com/HORI-Nintendo-3DS-Screen-Protective-Filter/dp/B008HPAXZ2/

u/Jespy · 2 pointsr/3DS

Hori Screen Protectors - easy to apply and gives you the assurance of not scratching your screen.

Better Stylus - the one that comes with the 3ds is fine but I find getting a better stylus works wonders when playing a stylus heavy games. Rocketfish sells stylus similar to the ones that came with the dsi xl in packs of 2 and I think can still be found at bestbuy.

Carrying case - if you like bringing your 3ds around for streetpass then putting it in a carrying case and tossing it into a bag will prevent wear and damaged to the system itself. I'm currently using a Hori carrying case and I find it pretty handy and it can hold 3 games.

Bigger SD card - if you plan on downloading from the e-shop then a nice 32gb sd card is great.

Assist grip - coolclown makes a nice assist grip that I find really comfortable if you plan on using your 3ds for long periods of time.

Crystal clear case - some people don't like the extra bulk but I like them for protecting the outside of the 3ds. If you purchased a limited edition 3ds then a hori tpu casing doesn't add too much bulk and protects your handheld.

u/stern9 · 2 pointsr/3DS

Try searching for a TPU case from Hori also maybe consider a pouch for extra protection

I got this TPU case from Hori, it's one of the best cases I've ever had for any device. It hardly adds any bulk to the device and is nearly crystal clear. It's softer than plastic so it won't scratch the 3DS' surface but it's also hard enough to provide decent protection. It's hands down this subreddit's favourite case.

u/DalvaMozzerX · 2 pointsr/3DS

i dont know how to make them less noticeable, but I do recommend getting a case of some sort. Since I have a limited edition 3DS XL i went and got this clear case and it is excellent.

u/ardulin · 2 pointsr/3DS

Thanks! It's this case from Amazon.

u/ohgodimsodumb · 2 pointsr/3DS

I bought one from amazon, and it was decent quality, but it came with a few minor dings which I suspect could turn into quite a few more over time.

I had simultaneously purchased a Hori cover from amazon, and it is head and shoulders above the no-name aluminium one. The Hori feels semi-rubbery, and hugs the system really well, but was also relatively easy to take off. The generic aluminium one from amazon made me concerned about potential scratches from the gaps between the system and the case and it didn't seem to grip my device really well, especially the cover for the top.

u/iniquities · 2 pointsr/3DS

Hori is a great brand honestly. It's cheap but the quality is... well what you'd expect as long as you put it in right. If you're like me and have troubles with removing air bubbles, you might have some problems but I don't think I've seen anybody complain about them yet.

I use their case too if you're ethinking about exterior protection too http://www.amazon.com/Clear-cover-Nintendo-official-licensed-products/dp/B008YAALT8

u/AdamskaPrice · 2 pointsr/3DS

This. Does not scratch the system and does not add much bulk.

u/xarigale · 2 pointsr/3DS

There is this soft plastic case I use for my Zelda 3DS XL. Link it is really nice, super high quality, and if you search the subreddit you may be able to find someone with pictures of one on their Pikachu XL. I seem to recall that being a major factor in me purchasing it. It's amazing and I have had no issues with it vs. peeling issues when using a cheap hard plastic case on a regular 3ds in the past.

Edit: It says hard cover but it's pretty flexible so I consider it 'soft' plastic.

The Club Nintendo cases suck everywhere. 30 dollars is too much, let alone 60. If you can get one with your coins (through Club Nintendo), great. If you can't, pass.

If you want something comparable to a normal game case in size, I've heard mixed things about the Assecure cases. They're probably comparable to the Hori cases in cost where you live. I know they are in America.

They hold as many games as the Club Nintendo cases, and come in a variety of colors - just search Amazon or eBay and there's quite a few.

Here is one on Amazon.

u/KinkyBurrito · 2 pointsr/3DS

I just got a 3DS not long ago and I've decided to go the physical route. People say they like to just be able to carry their 3DS with them and no physical games, but I have a 3DS hard case and I refuse to bring my 3DS anywhere without it protected by it and the case holds 6 games, but you could probably double up and go with 12. If that's not enough I also have a 18 game cartridge case that is almost exactly the size of a 3DS case, so it's not like I need to bring a whole lot even if I want to bring a 3DS with 30 games...and lets be real, if you need to bring more than 30 games, you're probably going to have a backpack or something to put it in anyway.

u/Sorcci · 2 pointsr/3DS

skin protector

I used skin protector to keep my 3ds in pristine condition. I bought my 3ds in 2015, and attached the skin protector since day 1 and the paint never flakes.

If transparent skin protector was too plain for you, you can choose many skin designs from decalgirl to keep the paint intact.

Alternatively, buy 3ds grip. Not only does it protect your 3ds like case does, but it also provides grip comfort for playing. I used dreamgear silicone grip for 3ds. It is bulky, but it protects your device well.

u/Sairyn_ · 2 pointsr/3DS

I picked up one of these at Sears on clearance for $5.97. I've seen them at Target, Walmart, and other stores for $15-17.

It has spots for a 3DS XL, 8 games, and two extra styluses (all held in by elastic bands). It also has a lanyard that can tuck inside and be held out of the way by another elastic band (I didn't even notice the lanyard until now since it was tucked away when I bought it). I'm sure that you could fit more games into it if you needed to, possibly in a case similar to this stored on top of the game flap.

I haven't used it yet, my 3DS XL is being delivered (got an Island Tour bundle for $130, don't care about the game, just wanted a solid colored system), but I tried an old DS and a few games in it, and it holds them securely.

The case calls itself a "hard shell". It's harder than fabric, but it definitely isn't crush proof. I just got it to keep my 3DS XL and games together when I travel, and it'll do the job nicely.

I used to horde them all, but I eventually got to the point where I just didn't have room to store them all. Nowadays, unless it's a game I've got an attachment to or it's a special edition, I store them in a bunch of these things.

u/HeyBoone · 1 pointr/3DS

I have this case for my DS

and I use this case for storing my carts. It is a bit of a pain to get the carts out due to the 'click' when you insert them but it's not terrible. I do not actually travel much with all these games I just prefer to have them like this rather than going through all the original boxes. That said I will not ever be getting rid of original game cases, I'm a bit of a collector that way.

I do have a bunch of digital releases as well due to e-shop sales and all that. I am a sucker for physical copies all being equal but if the price is right I do go digital. My argument is that if it is the same price I will gladly buy physical since in my mind there is inherent value in the manufacturer having to produce this rather than just provide it over a server. I simply do not understand when digital is the same price or sometimes amazingly MORE than the physical versions.

u/d4mation · 1 pointr/3DS

Unless you want to play GBA games, don't bother with a DS Lite. You will only regret it later and a 3DS or 2DS can be found fairly cheaply.

If you are concerned about battery life and maybe even accessories, the 3DS may be the best choice for you. The default battery life of the 3DS XL may be a little better, but you can buy 3rd party battery packs like the Nyko Power Pak+ that you will find many on this subreddit swear by and it is very cheap for the extra punch it gives. I wish one were available for my XL, but there are no better battery options (within a reasonable price range) for the XL.

I like my XL personally, but it sounds like you don't really like it and that decision is definitely up to you. I found the regular 3DS was too small for me (I owned a near-launch console) and I didn't like the build quality of it. Specifically the Start, Select, and Home buttons.

I cannot speak for the 2DS, but I don't know if I would let the Mono speaker be a deal breaker for you. The speakers on the 3DS and 3DS XL are fairly terrible anyway. I've always thought the ones on my DS Lite have sounded better personally.

u/justhadtosaythis · 1 pointr/3DS

If you bought a normal 3DS I recommend buying the Nyko Power Pak +

It doubled my 3Ds's battery life and I think it makes the console easier to grip. Very cheap too.

I wanted to buy the Nyko Power Grip. But it wasn't available when I ordered :(

I can't comment on it but 3x the battery life seemed very cool. Especially when the power pak legit doubles the battery life...

Beware of the "higher capacity" listings

Many times you'll see a battery that offers twice the capacity of the original, but in reality, those tend to just be the same capacity, or less.

Rule of thumb: If it claims to be an extended battery, and it's not significantly (psychically) larger, The capacity is fake.

Sure, you could squeeze in a few extra mah's in, and keep it the same size so it will fit in your ds/dsi, But if it claims to be 30+% larger, you'd need to increase the size of the battery.

I can confirm that Nyko's products do give the 3DS battery quite the boost. I think mine went from about 6 hours on 3DS games (low brightness, no wifi, power saver mode) to about 11-13. And DS games go about 15-16 too. This one is a smaller model of the power grip, and actually made the console quite a bit more comfy for someone like me with big hands. Your choice!

The original is pretty much perfect for my hands. They’re just slightly bigger now. As for the XL, it’s just uncomfortable for me since it’s hard to hit the bumpers and it takes a little more work just to multitask (lowering my hand to get to the dpad, add more pressure to face buttons. I mean, I use my middle fingers just to use the bumpers sometimes!)

Besides that, I need a new battery anyway. What if I get one of the bulky ones so my hands won’t feel crammed together and making my hand position feel more natural? Maybe this one? It’s not too big

If you get Tri, be sure to have a wii pro controller. Otherwise you're stuck with awkward wiimote+nunchuk controls.

Also, keep in mind that Tri no longer has online functionality. The only multiplayer for it is the monster arena hunts which are designed to be more challenging than a normal hunt of the same monster. Unfortunately as well, half the game's content (High Rank) was entirely behind the multiplayer mode.

4 Ultimate has one of the better tutorials, plus you could do coop if you grabbed another copy+3ds. But the handheld versions can be awkward to use as well. Consider getting a circle pad pro if you don't have the terribly named "new" 3ds. Otherwise camera control is on the same thumb as character movement.

u/WhiteHarePellinore · 1 pointr/3DS

What brand did you buy?

idk, I felt the 3DS doesn't even require a screen protector been using mine for months no scratches at all, but thats just my opinion. Maybe you just got a bad batch of screen protectors or an awful brand.

This is what most people recommend and what i use to use.
Hori 3DS XL Pro It worked fine on my older stuff.

sorry if this response wasn't much help.

u/Bkxjku · 1 pointr/3DS

Aside from the screen protector they are all really optional

You can go with any screen protector, I got like the Hori ones

32GB SD card

r4ids.cn R4i Gold(the firmware may not be updated when shipped so you may need a pre v4.5 3DS or DS Lite to update it) and Micro SD to hold the DS roms/saves/r4 firmware. 8gb is plenty

For Cases

Full 3DS Case or This Travel Case

A circle pad pro XL if you buy a game that supports it is nice, other things like a 3DS usb charger cable + external battery pack if you need the juice for trips are handy.

But aside from the screen protector which I highly recommend the rest are optional.

Well, not right now. You probably drank that Starbucks iced coffee, and that would have been a waste of something tasty.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HPAXZ2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The only reason I didn't install a protector when I got my 3ds around 2 months ago is because I was worried it would decrease the screen sensivity, I just installed it and tried Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, and it worked perfectly P: too bad I wait so long I have a couple of small scratches on my system.

Also my reason to go with HORI is because they have a really nice applying process :) look for it on youtube it's super easy and it works great.

u/Pebcaks · 1 pointr/3DS

I hope I'm not too late but i was looking for the same screen protector three days ago when I got my new MM 3DS. Amazon was sold out just like you said but they still have this one in stock.

It's the Hori one for the old 3DS XL, however since the screen size are the same it fits like a glove. I hope this saves you the scavenging.

I bought this one as the US version is always out of stock, its exactly the same except it says LL instead of XL. Arrived in a few days.

  1. If you bought the 3DS at launch, it must've been because you really wanted to play those launch titles right?
  2. Look, you paid $80 for an extra six months of Steel Diver. If it wasn't worth it, that's kinda on you; it's not like there were any surprises in the launch title lineup.
  3. That was a little shitty of them, but it was more than a year after launch and the 3DS had resonated surprisingly well with an older demographic, who'd appreciate a larger screen and larger controls.
  4. If you ever believed that the 3D was essential, there's something wrong with you. There's maybe one game that actually used it well, and nobody can agree which game it was.
  5. It's been 4 years since the original. That's a pretty normal time for a new hardware cycle; the gap between the 360/PS3 and XBone/PS4 gave people inflated expectations. If you really care that much about the c-stick and ZL/ZR buttons, you can pick up a circle pad pro, and I'm not sure why you think the microSD slot is new because my 3DS XL definitely has one, as did my DSi.

The moral of the story: don't buy consoles at launch unless you really, really want to play a launch title. It's not worth it. It's never worth it.
u/IcyWolfosKelsos · 1 pointr/3DS

Will run on both, but the only thing is you might need a Circle Pad Pro for the original 3ds/3ds xl (http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-Circle-Pad-Pro-Sonstiges/dp/B00B3TXJ14).

u/TwistedEvanescia · 1 pointr/FinalFantasyExplorers

It may not be a solution you like but you might look into a Circle Pad Pro. I have used one for over 400 hours of Monster Hunter and am very glad I have one for this game.

There is no known way to get them fixed without replacing the entire pad, but you can prevent further scratches by buying this: http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUSM.

I'm pretty certain the very grips you linked would also work for the Wii U.
I found these for the 3DS.

u/horrorslice · 1 pointr/3DS

Here is link for the Circle Pad Cover and the Controller Grip.

The circle pad cover elevates the stick more and has grips. Makes it easier to use. It's more plasticy than the soft touch of the original

The controller grip is a soft touch, satin finish and feels amazing. The triggers make it feel great compared to the original shoulder buttons. I was planning to post it when I got my Char X decal, but I decided to post it anyway.

I feel ya on that. I had a first generation GBA that I played all the time. My cousin was over, though, and he ended up tripping on the controller cords for my PS2, causing the console to fall onto my GBA and destroying the screen.

But I am also worried about the hinge on a 3DS breaking. Luckily my original DS's hinge still works, but I hear so many horror stories. So that fear won out over the fear of a broken screen and I just bought one of these for my 2DS. It's made of a nice hard plastic and I even bought a case to store my games that fits into the case as well. Really nifty. http://imgur.com/a/KI6Ys

u/trainercatlady · 1 pointr/3DS

You mentioned that the TNP case has a tendency to scratch the systems up, but I was considering picking up a Skinomi set for the Galaxy edition I have coming in next week. Do you think that, coupled with the TNP case would be a good fit? I've got the Hori Duraflex on my Pikachu 3DS XL and while I do love it, it has had a tendency to pick up dye from the carrying case it's in and has started to yellow around the edges, so I've been considering other options. And, as you've noted, the rubber does tend to absorb shock better, as well as resist scratching much better as well, but the fact that it doesn't fit snugly on the N3DSXL worries me. Am I being paranoid?

Super cheap, but hooooly crap it made all the difference. I couldn't play Mario Kart for more than 10 minutes before I bought that, and after I got it I beat the game in like 2 days.

u/DarkCybrid · 1 pointr/3DS

Here is the one I use. Works well, is comfortable, has a neat little stand that folds out the back. My only complaint is the bottom lip of it covers the game card slot so you have to take it off to change cards, although this isn't really an issue for me as most of my games are digital.

u/legoknight · 1 pointr/3DS

I was in a similar situation as you when I picked up one of Nintendo's refurbished N3DS systems last month. I was coming from a N3DS XL and had the Cyber Gadget grip for that; which I loved. Unfortunately, I found that tracking down non-XL N3DS accessories was not very easy. Additionally, I found that the Cyber Gadget version of the non-XL grip was outrageously expensive for what it was and couldn't be found anywhere from a non-3rd party seller. I checked just about everywhere from Amazon to eBay to PlayAsia, but no luck. I even tried Amazon Japan but no luck there either. I eventually just bit the bullet and decided to purchase one of the cheap ones on Amazon (this one). It isn't perfect, but for the price, I would buy it again and recommend it. It does its job of making the system easier to hold for longer play sessions which is exactly what I needed. Hope this helps!

u/Fruits_In_History · 1 pointr/3DS

I recently just got this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WU8EEAC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is just plastic, but is cheap and fits the regular New N3DS. Had decent reviews. I haven't use it really yet, but think it will work well

u/NicoC72 · 1 pointr/3DS

I prefer the standard New 3DS myself. The size is great, bigger than the OG 3DS and smaller than the XLs. I still bought a grip, mostly to flesh out the thickness, and now it's really comfortable! The faceplates are nice too, I sticker bombed a set. A point that people will argue is screen size, I think the New 3DS's is fine and the XL is too big for the resolution. Also, screw the gloss on the New XL, it's a terrible finish. The pattern looks nice, but I just can't stand the feel. Some of the faceplates for the New 3DS are glossy, but I think every New 3DS bundle (at least in the US) comes with at least one set of matte plates.

Is Gamestop offering perks for reserving Sun/Moon? <old-man voice> Boy, I haven't seen that kind of stuff in a while. Gamestop's website doesn't mention any extras.

The last time I got perks for reserving a game at Gamestop, was FireRed/LeafGreen. There was a little booklet you got with Charizard/Venusar on the cover, with a mini-map of the Kanto region.

At the very least, Amazon/Best Buy is offering 20% off the preorder (Amazon discount only applies to Prime Members): http://smile.amazon.com/Pokemon-Moon-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B01C93CWSI

So Sun and

u/jAquaD · 1 pointr/pokemon

Well, almost all Pokemon games have been on some kind of sale recently.

u/Akat0sh · 1 pointr/GiftofGames

Hi, thanks for doing the giveaway. This kind of generosity is much appreciated.

Anyway, I'd like to request a Physical version of Pokemon Moon. The reason why I need it physical is because my SD card doesn't have enough room for the digital version. (╥_╥)

Here is my SteamID. I'm just putting it here because you might want to see it or something, idk.

Here is my Miiverse/Nintendo ID.

Here is proof that I own a 3DS. I even drew Lampent, one of my favorite pokemon.

So, the reason why I want Pokemon Moon is because I'm a huge pokemon fan. No, not the ordinary Pokemon fan that just plays all the games. I'm one of those fans that plays hours and hours breeding, trading, battling Pokemon.

I have over 300 hours on Pokemon X alone. Yes, I have over 500 hours on Animal Crossing but that's not the point. (⋟﹏⋞)

Back when Pokemon X was popular, I would breed so many Pokemon and everyone wanted to trade with me. I'm serious, I even made a website of all the Pokemon I bred.

And I initially traded Pokemon in Reddit. It's really the only reason why I made a Reddit account in the first place. Look at the reviews I got!. This was my old reddit account. Trust me, I'm a good Pokemon trader. I would never trade Pokemon in the black market.

Errrmm, you heard nothing. Anyway, I eventually moved to Smogon which is basically an online competitive Pokemon community.

I used to be a competitive Pokemon trainer back when Pokemon Black/White came out, but I became a breeder when X/Y came out. I've written some articles back then for the Little Cup tier. (Basically we only use baby pokemon to fight. I know it's cruel.)

So, what I'm trying to say is that I would very much appreciate if I win Pokemon Moon. I'm not just one those people who play Pokemon and be done with it. I actually have a passion for this game. Pokemon is my childhood.

I know you clocked in hundreds of hours for Binding of Isaac. I can tell you also share a passion for a game. We both have a game that we very much enjoy. Something we can keep playing even if we have seen everything the game has to offer.

If you're going to pick a winner, at least pick someone that you know that will play the game even after they beat it, someone who would clock-in hundreds of hours, someone who would actually enjoy playing the game, someone who has a deep passion for the game. Not just someone who wants a game because they're curious.

That's pretty much all I have to say. I know the post was long, but I wanted to show you how much Pokemon means to me. It's not just a game to me, it's much more than that.

And yes, I fully understand that a shrimplet is just a small shrimp. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays.

Hello all,

I've been scouring the search feature and Google and I have a hard time picturing which case works for me exactly. I am looking for a case that can hold the future Nyko Portable Docking Kit, an extra set of JoyCons and their wrist straps + original wrist straps (The Docking Kit comes with an HDMI, power cable and the AC adapter). I realize that this might be a stretch given that the Docking Kit isn't out, but for those with amazing spatial abilities, that would be grand!

I'm really trying to avoid a backpack or huge compartments, a single-handed carrying case would be ideal.

These are the few that I've been eyeing but kind of torn with.

Butterfox

Hard EVA

Orzly

Surge

Thoughts anyone?

u/Garginator850 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I recommend a Butterfox case. It has plenty of storage for cartridges, extra joycons, straps and even an AC adapter.

This is the one I use. It holds the console, two extra Joy Con, the charger, and nine games all pretty easily. May not be big enough for all your stuff though.

u/taserface2 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I was hoping this would double up as a playstand with the optional ability to charge while playing. The plan was to get this case that fits the AC adapter and would also fit this DIY Dock .Would be able to carry the entire console + playstand in a small case (i travel lite so carrying the oem dock around isn't an option )

u/claypoolfan · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I have this case, it fits two extra joy con plus the ac adapter. Highly recommended.

u/Zayth · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Would this model work?
It says it can fit the adapter, but if not, I'd probably got for an 'Updated' or 'Large Model' one instead.

u/Bubo_scandiacus · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I own both of these and would recommend them:

  • PowerAdd 10,000 mAh - basic battery pack, two output levels
  • ToHLo 15,000 - larger, solar charging battery pack (solar charging is very slow though; 1 full day = ~ 1/3 charge)

Make sure you also buy a USB-A to USB-C cable too. I got a relatively small one so that I could fit it in the case.

The first one, the PowerAdd, I actually keep in the Switch case itself. I have the ButterFox case (version1, version2) so there's enough room for the Switch with JoyCon attached, the PowerAdd, a charging cable and two extra Joy Con.

    Also, for your reference:

The Switch's battery size is 4,000mAh. This means that a 10,000 mAh battery pack will refill it about 2 times (some power is lost in transmission, hence why I don't say 2.5 times or anything like that) and a 15,000 mAh pack should refill the Switch about 3 times over. When charging the Switch, make sure to use the higher output socket. On the PowerAdd this is denoted as 2 lightning bolts instead of 1 (2.4A instead of 1A) and on the ToHLo I believe output2 is the 2.4A socket. Any power bank will do, just ensure it has at least one 2.4A USB output.

Hey I am looking for a new travel bag for my switch and accessories. I currently have carry bag, and this body case. I like this setup as often when I am away from home, I play my switch handheld in the bed. Once I am done, I like putting back in the body case on the night stand or use the case for when I am just moving around a house/room. The carry bag worked cause it held the switch in the case, pro controller, power cord, and the joycons edges, all while being easy to carry or small enough to fit into a small duffel bag.

However, more and more of late I keep finding myself wishing that I brought the dock too and/or the joycon grip. There is no room in the carry bag and I don't like putting the dock in the duffel as I fear it getting crunched accidentally. Anybody recommend a bag that can hold the switch in the body case, while having room for the pro controller (and joycon grip if possible but not needed), dock, power adapter, and HDMI cable securely and safely for the devices without being the size of a messenger bag? If I need another case for the switch handheld itself, that's fine, I just prefer the harder shelled ones. Really if my current bag was just a couple inches thicker to hold the dock too it would be perfect, but it cannot.

Thank you!

Someone craftier than I should make a Switch carryall that looks like a fishing tacklebox and sell them on Etsy.

Edit: I just realized that you don't want to carry the dock around with you. My bad, but I'm leaving these up cuz they're still cool cases.

u/MutatedSpleen · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

There are some cases that will fit a dock, I have this one and I'm pretty satisfied with it. It fits the official dock, all the cords, and a bunch of controllers if you want. I actually keep my Switch itself in a separate case and put it in my backpack, but that's just my preference. You can put your Switch and the dock in this travel bag all together if you want.

The other option that seems fine is the Insignia-brand dock from Best Buy. There haven't been any reports of that dock frying your system when used properly (there was one of a guy who fried his system by using an Insignia dock with a Nintendo AC adapter, but using the Insignia dock with the Insignia adapter hasn't had any reported brickings). Definitely avoid the Nyko dock though.
