For anyone interested, I got it off Amazon where it's currently 24% off ($152.54 from $199.99). And here's a pretty good review of it I found online.

Also for those who might still think Mega Bloks sucks, they have come a long way and their quality has gotten a lot better and is now great. LEGO is still the gold standard especially with there being some cases where a Mega Bloks set might be missing a few pieces but Mega Bloks has improved a lot so it sucks that I don't really see any of their products in stores anymore.

FYI the Cyberman pre-order is on sale at Amazon.

WalMart has these for $30 on Black Friday. http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00BMKL5WY 1600 pieces.

In case it sells out or people don't have Prime or whatever, it's also available for the same price on Target.

This is what he asked me to buy his kid.

This is what my nephew opened on his birthday.

His argument was that the big one (which he specifically requested that I purchase) was meant for kids older than my nephew. Nevermind the $60 price difference.

To be fair, they did make two different sets

They forgot SWTOR. I was looking for my favorite fury class sith interceptor. It's even in lego form https://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Star-Wars-Fury-class-Interceptor/dp/B007Q0OV4I

You're gonna get this. Or, you should. Cause it's cool. And I guess that item looks mighty fine.

u/OmegaZero55 · 3 pointsr/legostarwars

Here's a link to it if you didn't find it yet. It looks like you have to be an Amazon Prime member to get it for that price, though.

u/HolyRamenEmperor · 2 pointsr/dataisbeautiful

Years ago when I was a kid my brother and I had a benchmark: we never bought a set above $0.10/pc unless it was really, really cool. Licensed stuff is usually at a worse price but that benchmark still holds today and makes the Force Awakens AT-ST Walker one of the best Star Wars sets out right now.

u/tarataqa · 2 pointsr/lepin

I'd say 99% of the sets have been a blast. After the Lepin raid, it's hard to say what sets will run out of stock and what sets will not be republished. (maybe they will all come back, i don't know) I say just grab the ones you like. Some like the ucs Imperial Star Destroyer take extra work to get right, but they all look great on display.

On a side note, if you like Star Trek, the Enterprise is nice too. Over 3000pcs for $100: https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Bloks-Enterprise-Collector-Construction/dp/B01ARGB91K

u/arche22 · 2 pointsr/Legomarket

This was the first to pop into my head.

u/mondomondoman · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Thanks for the contest. I just finished my first one earlier this week. It's great.

Heres the cheapest item on my list and the item I really want.

u/LoganNolag · 2 pointsr/lego

For $150 I would get one of the modular buildings. My favorite currently available one is the Grand Emporium (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Grand-Emporium-10211) but the Fire Brigade (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fire-Brigade-10197) is the oldest one so it might be a good idea to pick one up before it is discontinued.

If you're into Star Wars the Ultimate Collectors Series B-Wing is on sale right now for about $150 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Dailego-B-Wing-Fighter-10227/dp/B009OJGLR4/ref=sr_1_10?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1371520022&sr=1-10&keywords=lego)

Another one of my favorites is the Kingdoms Joust set (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kingdoms-Joust-10223). It goes really well with the Medieval Market Village which is unfortunately discontinued but you can still get it for about $150. (http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Castle-Medieval-Market-Village/dp/B001USHRCK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1371520318&sr=8-1&keywords=medieval+market+village) $150 is almost twice the original MSRP but it is still a good value as you get around 1600 pieces.

If you are into architecture you might want to consider one of the larger Architecture sets such as Imperial Hotel (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Imperial-Hotel-21017) or Fallingwater (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Fallingwater-21005). I don't have either one of these but I do have the Robie House (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Robie-House-21010) which was a thoroughly enjoyable build.

There are also some fun train sets for less than $150 like the Horizon Express (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Horizon-Express-10233) and the Passenger Train (http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Passenger-Train-7938). The Horizon Express is a very detailed model but it has no track or train motors. The Passenger Train is a much simpler build but it has track and a motor so it is more like a traditional model train set. Of course you can get a motor and track for the horizon express but you will have to buy those separately.

Hope this helps.

u/langer44 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

It's too quiet in here! under $10 you say...

u/Timzor · 2 pointsr/pics

That simply isnt true, there are heaps of sets of generic peices.

Heres one http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Bricks-10662-Creative-Bucket/dp/B00AWBLS80/ref=dp_ob_title_toy

And this one here http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Bricks-More-Brick-4626/dp/B005VPRDBS/ref=sr_1_638?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1416663306&sr=1-638

As well as a huge selection of pre designed sets made entirely of generic peices. Now granted the selection is not huge but people are happier buying the designed sets and mixing and matching those bricks, and besides, you can always just buy a few sets and throw away the boxes/instructions if you're that concerned about your childs lack of imagination.

u/amazonfba001 · 2 pointsr/Flipping

I think I will stick to the other stores that have deals that day. THe last time I went to walmart I saw 2 women fighting over a doll. I mean come on its a damn toy. This probably happens in other places but I just think Walmart is the most popular since it has locations everywhere. That also means it will have more traffic then say Kmart.

It should also be noted that neither product has the greatest sales rank on Amazon. they are in the 300000 range which isn't very good

http://www.amazon.com/Toys-limited-basic-Tower-japan/dp/B00BMKL5WY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416749621&sr=8-3&keywords=lego+creative+tower

u/strawberrynight · 2 pointsr/santashelpers

For your dad, these have been on sale at Costco (Mississauga, ON) for some time now. I was at Costco today and there were still a few left, so you could check your local Costco. It's also an alarm clock so there's a practical element to it. You could also go to the lego store at Southgate Centre and see what they have there.

fear cuts deeper than words

Edit #1 - Replaced #1 #2, #9, #13, #15, edited some text, added bonuses

Okay, so a lot of my items are similar, or are kind of "flexing" the rules, but I will leave official rulings up to you. Here goes!

  1. Something Grey - Strip of magnesium - This actually just got gifted to me. This coal trash can is silver, which is basically grey :D

2)Something reminiscent of rain - Zen Garden - Flexing the rules. It's only related because it's a garden. An umbrella!! I don't have one of these, and I have no idea why.

  2. Food related - Pineapple corer/slicer

  3. On wishlist not for me (this is for my fiancee) - Apple Cider k-cups

  4. A book you should read - Everyone should have the Joy of Cooking

    6)Item less than a dollar - MP3

  5. Something related to cats - This is related because of that scene in "Christmas Vacation" where the cat gets electrocuted

  6. [Beautiful but not useful - Lego adoption of Brandenburg Gate](
    http://www.amazon.com/LEGO%C2%AE-Architecture-Brandenburg-Gate-21011/dp/B0050R0V3O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=E9RD1GO4V1KF&coliid=I22USNN7FC4LVL)

  7. Movie everyone should see once - Not on wishlist - Harlan County, USA. This documentary is nearly perfect in every sense of the word. This movie is so powerful, and so real, it's just unbelievable. One of my favorites. I always suggest it when someone asks "what documentary should I see?"

  8. Something useful when Zombies attack - Kinect Your Shape Fitness Evolved - You need to be able to Outwit, Outrun, and Outlast.

  9. Profound impact on life - Guitar. I really want to learn how to play, and my dad was going to teach me, but he passed before he was able to. It would mean a lot to share that passion with him even though he's already moved on

  10. Add-On Item - Cat6 cable!!!

  11. Most expensive item -It's actually the guitar, so I went with the 2nd most expensive which is a Logitech G19 keyboard Nope. It's actually this amp.

  12. Bigger than a bread box - Mizuno backpack

  13. Smaller than a golf ball - Not sure if a k-cup would count, but I threw it in there. If it doesn't count, I will find something else It doesn't. Here's some ship and anchor cufflinks I really want for my wedding :)

  14. Something that smells wonderful - Kind of cheating, but a different k-cup. Donut shop coffee is the BEST. Changed to a different beverage. I have a horrible addiction to this stuff, and it smells wonderful (to me)

  15. SFW Toy - Legos are a toy!! :D

  16. Helpful going back to school - I listed the Zen Garden again because it's helpful to have something peaceful when going back to school

  17. Something related to your current obsession - I am OBSESSED with Lorde. I have stated this many times over the last week.

  18. Something amazing/awe inspiring - SERIOUSLY. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING CHAIR. THIS MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE? THIS SHIT FOLDS UP SO YOU CAN CARRY IT. NOT GOOD ENOUGH? SHIT, SON. THIS BITCH HAS TWO ARMRESTS FOR YOUR LAZY ASS. STILL BITCHING? GUESS WHAT DICKLIPS, THIS BITCH HAS TWO CAN HOLDERS AND A FUCKING COOLER. YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO GET YOUR BITCH ASS UP TO GET A DRINK, BAM, YOU ALREADY GOT ONE. IT EVEN HAS A POUCH TO HOLD YOUR OTHER SHIT, IF ALL OF THIS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS CHAIR.

BONUS #1 - I looked through your reddit history (not very hard, but I did look), and came up empty, so I'll just post something later that might fit.

BONUS #2 - These blankets are made in Oregon, and look SUPER cool. Not on my WL (I have more than enough blankets), but I really like them.

I may attempt the bonuses tomorrow, we will see. This is definitely a placeholder until rulings on some items are made. Fix'd :D

u/FFIXMaster · 1 pointr/Minecraft

I'm not quite old enough to have toys from the early '70s, but I do still have action figures from the late '80s and they've held up just fine; I think a lot of it has to do with how well they're taken care of; I mean when you get down to it they're just plastic and that shit lasts for eons.

And when you compare the cost of a bucket of assorted LEGO^® bricks ($49 for 704 pieces) to an equivalent Mega Bloks product ($34 for 750 pieces) you can pretty easily call them overpriced; in my experience there is no real difference between the two products except the brand stamp on the bricks and the figures, neither of which has an effect on the quality of the toy.

> basic affordable set with lots of pieces

Not with Lego, although you can find some good collections on ebay.

If I needed lots of pieces, I would get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ultimate-Building-Set-Pieces/dp/B000NO9GT4 or http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Bricks-More-Brick-4626/dp/B005VPRDBS/ (or anything from the "bricks & more" line http://creative.lego.com/en-us/products/10681.aspx )...

Although be sure to do the legwork, some of these go on sale for exorbitant prices. That first one shouldn't be $70 even in a million years.

If you are looking to get sets 'for adults', there is a great collection of them here: http://brickset.com/sets/list-9150 and that whole site has a lot more.

Personally, anything 'cuusoo' is going to be awesome. They are like the reddit of lego set creation: http://lego.cuusoo.com/

u/duckflesh · 1 pointr/DungeonsAndDragons

bricklink.com is good for individual parts, but somewhat hard to use. eBay is easier to use, but usually more expensive. Amazon is good for new-in-box stuff and sometimes for parts as well.

They don't make many sets that come with more than five or so miniatures, but there's always this:

u/RichardBruns · 1 pointr/lego

I have been using Lego in my D&D games for over a decade now. For the last two years, I have been running a weekly D&D game where the enemies and terrain are always Lego. Here are my tips:

The way to make it work is to treat your Lego creations like dungeon tiles, rather than trying to build a whole setting as a single Lego build. Make Lego walls and dungeon dressing. You can then rearrange them on the fly as needed. I have boxes and boxes of Lego terrain, enemies, and dungeon parts that can be easily pulled out and combined for whatever the adventure of the week is.

It helps to use a non-Lego grid in addition to the Lego creations. Lego work well with actual dungeon tiles or battlemats. I use a tablecloth that has a 1-inch grid, and lay out the Lego things on that tablecloth to form a map.

Some more ideas:

During character creation, give the players access to a pile of Lego people, weapons, and accessories. Most players will love customizing a mini to match their character. They may even make a fun Lego person first, and then make their character to match. This is one of the best parts of using Legos in a D&D game.

Save the really nice-looking Lego weapons and accessories for use as treasure. Give them to enemies, and after the players fight the enemies, they can loot the flaming swords, golden armor, etc. from the fallen enemy minifigs and put them on their character minifigs.

Allow and encourage called shots on your Lego monsters. When they remove a limb, take it off the Lego model. Most players will love reducing horrible monsters to piles of disconnected Lego pieces.

Allow and encourage players to destroy, rearrange, or otherwise interact with the Lego terrain. My players have handled many combat encounters by clever use of Lego terrain, and it makes for great stories.

Set Recommendations:

The Fairytale and Historic Minifigures Set is a cheap way of stocking up on lots of Lego people suitable for a D&D game. You even get some dungeon dressing and terrain as a bonus.

Mixels are great for making all kinds of monsters. Lego also has a nice dragon for only $15.

The Treehouse and Mountain Hut are nice sets for making villages and outdoor terrain.

You can use Bionicle to cheaply and easily make good giants and colossal enemies.

My son is getting a big bucket of LEGOs for Christmas: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005VPRDBS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3A75OQHMPSD3E&coliid=I37OLSCHT22HUG or http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Ultimate-Building-Set-Pieces/dp/B000NO9GT4/ref=pd_sim_t_6

It's going to be a long lasting toy that helps him learn and be creative, and most importantly they aren't exhaustible like art supplies are.

As someone who grew up poor with two brothers, I can definitely say that Christmas can be done better and more cheaply with one great group gift, than with a bunch of smaller gifts for each child. Also, Goodwill tends to have $1 toys and presents right around the holidays. It's not new, but IMO parents do their children a disservice by teaching them to expect new things.

u/LewTurbo · 1 pointr/amiibo

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2012/12/27/lego-investors-profit/1732525/

Seems to be closer to a year or two on store shelves for each. Things over $100 seem to be a little more, maybe 2-3 years.

https://ideas.lego.com/guidelines

"Once announced, it normally takes about six months for us to design the final set and box, create building instructions, produce it in the factory, ship the sets to distribution centers around the world, and have them available on the shelves to buy, however we cannot guarantee product launch timeframes."

Yes many sets get multiple runs, mostly the bigger ones. You are 100% correct on Han and Obiwan's eyes for example. I was wrong about that.

But like I said, the small ones ($10-20) can really shoot up sometimes, and never seem to get multiple runs.

http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Wolverine-Chopper-Showdown-6866/dp/B007GE5X7S
These were everywhere for months.....and now......

My larger point remains, if Nintendo pushes forward with new amiibo lines, these current lines could be planned as a short term run, not something being constantly produced. Therefore, they could actually shoot up quite a bit when they are no longer available, even what we now consider commons.

But Supply and Demand are very hard things to predict, hence the situation we find ourselves in now with said amiibo.

Camel lists the lowest at $82 for Amazon. I think one of the WalMart sales may have broke into the $79 realm, but I'm not sure.

If someone is interested, I'd probably suggest you not wait for it to get cheaper.

That said, still a good price on anything of this size and piece count. I'm looking forward to the build, once I find a place for it :)

u/JDGumby · 0 pointsr/nerdcubed

> but as it stands, it's just too little for too much (money).

That describes the vast majority of sets, really. Especially if there are non-block equivalents out there that you make the mistake of comparing sets to (eg, you can get the standard Kenner-style Poe Damaron's X-Wing for probably 2/3rds the price of the LEGO version - and it'll look more movie-accurate, have more detail and be of a better build quality :).

edit: Yep. 2/3rds the price. CA$59.99 for the traditional style, CA$92.99 (though its MSRP's CA$100) for the LEGO version. :)

u/hacksoncode · 0 pointsr/rpg
