In Vermont, sledding is serious business. If ever there were a place where the untapped potential of sledding as a sport could be unleashed, it would be here. And that’s why a group of friends in Vermont’s Mad River Valley – prime sledding territory – set out to create a sled that would offer what cheap toy store sleds and big, uncontrollable toboggans couldn’t. And so the Mad River Rocket was born.

Drawing inspiration from whitewater canoes and powder skis, the Mad River Rocket is far more controllable and maneuverable than your garden-variety toy store sled. You kneel on the sled and steer by leaning, using your hands for stabilization. The design of the sled’s hull makes it easy to execute sharp turns, which is essential for dodging trees on forested hillsides in Vermont and everywhere else.

The plush kneepads soften landings, and the knee strap ensures that you and your sled come back to earth together. Some well-practiced MRR riders have even developed quite a repertoire of aerial tricks on the sleds; it’s very impressive, but just like with skiing, try some small jumps first before you aim for the skies.

The model of Mad River Rocket pictured here, the Killer B, is the original model and the flagship of the MRR product line. We also offer a smaller kids’ version called the Stinger, which is sized for people under 100lbs. Choose from the drop down menu on which variation you would like and enjoy your new Mad River Rocket!
